#but I do have quite a few things for my (un)lucky boy au I just need to get the ideas out there
Note
Hola Ailo!!!! The recap that you did ask for is here(a little bit late sorry but still counts), Louis show at the Victorious Festival:
Festival poster.
As you saw but still will link some pics because he look gorgeous, Louis wore full black with a cap 🫠 and the barricade photo I show you that deserves to be link again haha.
🚨Highlight of the recap shirtless Steve is back!!! Thank you Steve 🚨 (no idea if that is a highlight for you but it wouldn't be a recap of me without that important info).
His family was there, here is a cute video of Lottie, other with Olive and other with Lucky.
Seems like the weather was cold, because Mr. Weather Man comment about it and also was doing some arms and hands gestures a few times to said that he was cold, poor Louis, but hey we thank him for showing a tank top.
He said this sweet quote and mention that it was his first festival in the UK.
Here he was interacting with a fan but I wonder what the sign said.
Louis instagram story.
Some observations about the live:-Hands up and down during kill my mind instead of kmm lights (like this other time that they did it in other festival), seems like is a tradition now and I love it.
-You can see his family on the side of the stage moving to the rhythm.
-Fans were yelling I love you Louis and he was smiling.
-He was interacting with a lot of fans, was very smiley and so confident. It was lovely seeing him like this.
He also sign a doncaster bear of a fan I guess maybe after the show I don't know.
For your Nouis' heart, Louis give a like to a video of Niall and Ed Sheeran singing Little Things (here is the full video) on today's show of Niall, they also sing Lego House (there was no live 😑, we just have to listen after it was sad but still beautiful).
Louis took a shot backstage with Phoebe and Daisy.
I already share it but still, the short setlist 11 songs rip 7 😭.
The crowd look huge, I'm so proud of him.
Here is the live in case you want to watch it.
And that is it for the baby recap. I'm probably missing some things but is what I could do, I was very busy with Niall's updates so I didn't pay much attention to everything that was shared yet.
Let me know what you think, I love reading reactions of the recaps :)
I hope you have a lovely day. Here is a spanish phrase for you: Te mando un abrazo.
Oh wow CC 🤩🤩🤩 this is amazing!! Thank you so much!! 😘 Even though I did request it (as I’m in the alps, no wifi, and quite some fandom fomo), the feeling of getting a recap is… so unexpectedly heartwarming! 🥰 It made me sing We Made It “sayin’ goodbye, wavin’ to the hard times” to the mountains this morning, as you really make me feel so included!!
I love the outfit as a whole: it works!! I’m glad you sent a photo of the cap, I would’ve missed the “mauled by a dragon” aspect of it otherwise. 🤪
Weatherman Louis 🥶 lives in an entirely different climate than Steve 🥵! And the shivering pic… is gonna be a favourite of mine!! It’s convincing me that it must’ve been freezing 😎
Aww… the mini Tomlinsons!! 🥹 They do bring a cuteness factor that we don’t often see. And I can’t believe how big Olive is! Can that really be?!?🤔🤔
I love that the kmm hands are back: you know the Louies are in the crowd when…!!
I’m guessing the sign was one of those “please write me a tattoo” or something requests… and Louis didn’t wanna explain that he’s working, day job etc again… so he just says “how?” in THAT voice… wow! 🫠 Good of you to include that!! 🤭
Mini but fun setlist! Face the Music surviving every cut is a surprise to me, but hey… not my day job 🫢
And thanks for the bigger picture: Niall singing Little Things with Ed! Yeah! And Louis liking it!! Now c’mon boys…!! Just a little click, babe!
So much more to say but the kids & mountains are calling. Schöne Grüße aus den Bergen!
Und herzlichen Dank für die tolle Zusammenfassung!! 🫶🫶🫶

PART 2
MASTERLIST
FRANKIE MASTERLIST
»»————- ♡ ————-««
“Francisco?” your voice was low and gentle as you stepped into kitchens and scanned the room for any sign of life. A frown crossed your features when you thought he might not be here at all, but he quickly popped up from behind the counters with a smile gracing his features and a dusting of flour on his nose.
“Hello there,” he beamed as you bounced over to him, quickly reaching up and wiping the flour away before kissing his nose.
“Hello there,” you repeated, quickly looking around to make sure no one else was there before pulling him in for a quick kiss, “I’ve missed you.”
"Feeling cheeky today, Princess?" Frankie's hands found your face as he pulled you closer to him and stole a handful of kisses. You were left breathless and yearning for more as eagerly grinned at him. He stopped for a moment and studied you gently playing with a lock of your hair, in awe of your beauty as always, "you are so beautiful, my love."
"And just who is feeling cheeky now, sweet Francisco?" you teased, running a hand through his dark curls as his hands found purchase on your waist. You giggled as he picked you up and set you down on the kitchen counter. He grinned as he pressed his forehead against yours.
"I think its you, Princess. Coming in here and openly kissing the kitchen boy?" he asked before kissing along your jaw and down your neck, causing you to bite back a moan, "so brazen. Where anyone could see us...my oh my."
"Shut up," you pulled him back to your lips, "its because I happen to be in love with you, you absolute fool!"
“Are you?” he must have been feeling extra cheeky because he slowly started to lift your skirts and trailed a hand along your calf, a juxtaposition of calloused hands and delicate skin as he kissed you till you were breathless, “I happen to be in love with you too, Princess.”
“Call me by my name,” you whispered in his ear, knowing there was nothing better than hearing it slip from his tongue. There was no need for formalities when it was just the two of you, there was no barrier, no difference, just two people in love, “please.”
And then it came forth, delicate and gentle as he trailed his lips along your neck, stopping just before the shell of your ear. He nipped lightly at the soft skin, making sure to leave no marks; if any were seen you’d both be dead. One day, you’d always promised, one day he could mark you as he pleased for the world to see, to let everyone know you were his. But he was no fool - he knew one day would never come, despite your honeyed words and saccharine promises. He was a servant, no more, no less, and you were a princess, everything he was not.
But he did love you, truly, deeply, and completely, and you loved him. That was no lie - but you could never be together. It was just...the way the world worked. People like Francisco Morales didn’t get the opportunity to be with royalty. People like yourself were not allowed the liberty of love and choosing your own happiness and destiny.
“Francisco,” it was a heady whisper as you started to tug at his shirt, slowly un-tucking it from the waistband of his trousers. His hands were roaming your frame as you closed your eyes and lost yourself in him.
Before it could get any further, you heard your name shouted from afar. Both of you froze immediately, a sense of terror bubbling up inside as Frankie pulled back and you hopped off the counter and straightened your skirts while he tucked his shirt back in. Deft hands help to smooth your hair back into place as you both took a few steps apart to appear as if you had been engaging in polite conversation, rather than about to have one another on the kitchen counter.
“Princess!” you rolled your eyes dramatically at Frankie before he shot you a quick wink as your father’s guard stormed into the kitchen.
“Calm down,” you huffed with a sigh that you didn’t even bother to cover up as you waved him off, “no need to alert the cavalry, I’m right here.”
“What are you doing in the kitchens?”
“I fancied a snack,” you lied, reaching for an apple in the bowl that was thankfully right in front of you, “and I came into the kitchen to look for something, as one normally does when it has been some time since they’ve eaten.”
He scowled, somewhere between annoyance and not quite believing you. You swallowed nervously, praying there was nothing to prove what the two of you had actually been doing. There was no evidence that anything happened, so he couldn’t do anything, “your father and mother request your presence in his study. Immediately.”
“Immediately?” you scoffed, “I’ve got plans for my afternoon - anything important can surely be handled by my sister, no? She’s to be the Queen after all, not me. I’m nothing to them, except another burden. Surely they meant Helena and not me.”
“They asked for you specifically, Princess,” he was quick to grow weary of your attitude. Normally you were polite, and mostly kept to yourself, but this particular guard was nothing but pain. Everything with him had to be by the book and he refused any levity, “you’re to come with me.”
“Fine,” you agreed, you took a loud, crunching bite of your apple as you walked over to him. Waving a hand at him, you ushered him along, “let’s go then, and get this over with. I have a multitude of things I’d rather be doing.”
He was silent as he led the way, allowing you to steal one last look at Frankie, who was almost red-faced as he tried not to laugh. You blew him a kiss followed by a wave as you put on your most neutral and disinterested face. You’d come back and find him later to finish what you started; if nothing else, you at least would get to spend time with him. There was nothing better than that.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
“Ahhh, there she is,” your father stood up as soon as you walked into the room. Confusion marred your features as you look behind you to see who he was talking about. He walked over to you and put his hand on your shoulders and studied you, “I’m talking about you, of course. My youngest, my sweetest-”
“I’m not your youngest, father,” you reminded him, “I have two brothers, or have you forgotten about them? I’d also wager that-”
“Must you always talk back?” your mother’s face was set in a stern expression as she was perched on the edge of your father’s desk, “it’s unbecoming of a young lady. Husbands do not want a wife that’s always so haughty.”
“Bold of you to assume I want a husband,” you insisted as you crossed your arms over your chest, causing your father to sigh, “and if a husband does not want to listen to me talk or engage in conversation, then he is not a husband I want.”
“You don’t get a choice in that.”
“I refuse to marry a man I do not love.”
“You are not in a position to argue,” your father held up his hands, silencing the two of you, ever the neutral ruler. Rolling your eyes you waited for him to go on, “it is your duty, by birth, to marry a man of our choosing. You’re a Princess, you do not marry for love. You marry for relations, to produce heirs, for your people.”
“I am a second born,” you huffed, trying to understand what he was saying, “and a daughter at that. What does it matter? I’m not going to Queen, I’m just...me.”
“It does not matter,” your mother insisted, “you are a part of this family and you will do as we say. Your marriage is just as important as those of your sister and your younger brothers.”
“Fine,” there was no point in trying to argue, “should I ever find a man that I love that meets your standards, I’ll let you know. May I be excused now? I have other things I’d like to attend to -”
“That’s why you’re here,” your brow furrowed in confusion, but suddenly you felt like there was a lump in your throat, “you will get married and you will have a husband of our choosing. It just so happens that we’ve chosen one for you already.”
“What? No, no, no, no,” you eyes widened in shock as panic set deep in your bones, “you can’t just do that. W-with no warning-”
“We can and we have,” she raised an eyebrow, “you’re already older than you should be. Luckily, we’ve found a wonderful husband for you, the Lord of Easterly.”
“Easterly?” you repeated as you felt the life leave your heart, “he’s so much older, and he’s terrible! Everyone loathes him, surely you can’t be...you can’t be serious.”
“He’s a good match,” your mother insisted firmly, “and frankly are better than you could have hoped for. You should be thanking your lucky stars your father is king and could even arrange such a match at your age. You’re not getting any younger and you should have been married years ago.”
“Please,” your mind was already racing with hundred million thoughts, but they all went back to Frankie. You couldn’t get married, not to this man - a man you’d barely met and certainly didn’t love. No, no, no, this was all wrong. Suddenly your attitude went away and you were ready to beg and grovel, “please don’t do this. Please, you can’t force me to marry him...I beg of you. I will do anything, just don’t make me marry him. Please.”
“It also already done and settled,” her voice was cold and ice and if you didn’t know any better, you’d swear there was a pleased little smirk tugging on the corners of her mouth, “you’ll be married by the end of next month and then you will go to live with your new husband. You may be unhappy, but this is your duty. This has always been your duty.”
“No,” your lip trembled with effort as you tried not to cry, “I won’t do it.”
“There is no won’t, you will do this,” she crossed her arms over her chest and your father remained silent. You looked between the two of them, hoping, wishing, praying, that one of them would say something else. One of them had to be on your side, right?
“And if I refuse?”
“You will not,” her glare was cold as ice as she stared you down. You swallowed thickly but willed down all the ugly, vile things you wanted to say. You’d already angered them, and you needn’t poke the bear further...you didn’t want to know what else they could be capable of, “now go. An official announcement will be made at the end of the week and then we will plan your wedding.”
“I hope you know that I hate this,” it was the only thing that came to mind, “I will never forgive you for this.”
“We have nothing to be sorry for,” your father finally chimed in as he looked down at you, “you have always known that this was your duty, and now its your turn to fulfill that duty. Now run along and learn some manners and respect.”
You offered them a mock bow before storming out of the door, without waiting for it to be opened. Tears of anger and frustration rolled down your cheeks as you tried to still your racing mind. A month, you had a month. A month to figure out how to get out of this situation once and for all.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
You watched as rain poured outside your window, tapping on it gently as you cried and cried. At some point, you weren’t sure if it was the raindrops obscuring your vision or your own tears making it cloudy. As soon as you’d stepped foot back outside that afternoon the skies had opened and rain had poured down, covering the earth as if it was weeping with you. You’d been so caught up in your sorrow, you’d forgotten about anything else - including meeting Frankie at your secret spot in the gardens.
You clutched the small stuffed bunny in your arms as you cried and hiccuped, wishing that this would all go away. You’d had the little stuffed animal for some time, a secret little present from Frankie because he knew how much you loved the small creatures. No matter how long you’d had it, it still managed to smell of him - a sweet, saccharine smell.
A soft knock came from the windows, startling you as you wiped away your tears and started at the large window. You weren’t sure if it had been your imagination or if you’d actually heard something, but as soon as you’d seen the shadow moving about, you were sure it was someone.
Slipping out from the soft blankets, you padded over and slowly opened the window. You immediately spied Frankie as he finally looked relieved to finally see you.
“Princess,” he whispered as he reached out and gently touched your face, grounding him in the fact that you were okay. But his heart wrenched when he realized that your face was wet, but not from the rain, “you’re crying - what’s wrong? Y-you didn’t come to our spot.”
“I-I-I’m sorry,” you sniffled as you took his hand in yours and pulled him inside the warmth of your rooms. It was silent while you made quick of pulling off his jacket and laying it on the back of your chair. Pulling him gently, you took him towards the warm, crackling fire, flopping down on the floor next to it, “I forgot, Frankie. I…”
And then it was silent for some time. Frankie sat next to you, silent as he warmed up and wanted for you to carry on with what you had to say. After some time, he pulled you in his lap as he studied your face. He brought a hand up, slowly, delicately as he traced over your features before pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead.
“What’s happened, my sunshine?” he whispered as you wrapped your arms around him and buried your face into his shoulder. Before you could get out any proper words, you ended up crying again, tears quickly soaking through his tunic as you cried. He held you gently, rocking back and forth as he tried to get you to quiet down so you could speak to him, “shhh, my sweet love. It’s okay, it’s all okay...I’ve got you.”
"Frankie," you finally managed to pull yourself together enough to spot the tears from spilling, "I received horrible news today...the worst thing that could possibly happen occurred today…"
"Whatever could it be?" he reached up and gently wiped away your tears from your cheeks and pushed a lock of hair behind your ear.
"I am to be married," you finally said the words out loud for the first time, shocking you both are vile they sounded, "by the end of next month. To Lord Easterly of all people."
"Oh."
“This is the worst thing to happen,” you whispered softly, “I-I don’t know what to do. Francisco, I love you - you’re the one I want to m-”
“You must marry him,” he stated; there was no emotion, no hesitation or anything. His voice was neutral - calculated to show no trace of emotion, “if your parents arranged your marriage to him, then you must marry him.”
“Frankie,” you pulled back, your face colored in hurt and shock, “I-I don’t love him, I don’t want to marry him. I love you…”
“It doesn’t matter,” he insisted, “it is your duty to marry him.”
Inside, his own heart was breaking into a million tiny pieces, mere fragments of a whole. He wanted to cry - to scream and argue and hurt everyone that had brought this upon you. But instead he just...shut down. In some ways, he’d spent the last few years preparing for this moment, knowing that eventually it would be inevitable. He was a stupid, foolish man to fall in love with you in the first place. He had no right, no reason to - he was of one world and you were of another. You could never be together. Never. And even though he’d always known that, locked away in the back of his mind, this didn’t make the crushing blow any easier. He was so in love with you, it was hard to believe that his love could ever die; sometimes it left him breathless just to think about how much he was enamored by you.
But you could never be his.
“Francisco,” you shook your head as you grabbed his face and turned his chocolate eyes towards you, “what on earth are you saying? I thought you...I thought you loved me? I can’t marry him, I will never be happy again if I do. It’s supposed to be you, my love. No one else.”
“Don’t be foolish,” his voice cracked as he took your hands and pulled them away, “we can never be together, we both know that. It was only a matter of time...we’ve always known it would come to this. You must do as they say.”
“I-I-I don’t understand,” you shook your head, blinking back tears as you pulled away from Frankie. He stared at the fireplace as he refused to make eye contact with you, “you want me to marry him?”
“I don’t,” he admitted quietly, “gods, of course I don’t. But there is no choice, no other way. We both know that. If I could, I would marry you right now, and take you away from this forever. But I can’t do that...we would never work. I know it’s not what you want to hear, and we’ve both been blissfully ignorant of that fact, but it was always bound to come to an end. That will never change how much I love you.”
“You want me to marry a man I do not love because I’m being told to,” you were crying now, fully bawling at blatant denial of...you, "you want me to subject myself to a life of unhappiness? You can't...you won't be able to go with me."
"You know your duty-"
"That is such shit!" you shouted at him, "you love me, right? We'll run away together - we can get married and live happily far away from here."
"And what? You'll just be found and brought back and I'll be jailed if not hanged," he threw his hands up in frustration, "or worse yet, we'll both be hanged. I can't...I can't give the life you deserve."
"We'll go far away," it was a meek protest as you contemplated dropping to your knees to beg him to stay and fight for you, "no one will know who we are. I swear it - please, Frankie. I don't want anything else but you. That's all I want - you. Just you. Please."
"I'm sorry," he stood up and crossed his arms over his chest as he deflected from the situation, "I can't do that. You have to do what you're told to do."
"So you don't love me...has this all been a lie then?"
"I do love you."
"It doesn't feel like it. Stay with me then!"
"I can't do that. You know that - we don't have a choice."
"Everything is a choice!" you shouted angrily, "everything!"
"Do you have any clue how hard this is for me too?!" you'd never heard him raise his voice this loudly before and took you aback for a moment as you pouted at him, "to see the woman I love every single day but not to be able to be with her? Having to see her in secret? I want to show the world I love you, I want everyone to know! But I can't - for your safety and mine. It pains me every day not to be able to love you as I want!"
"Then go with me," you reached for his hand but he quickly pulled out of your grasp, "we can run away together. Please don't leave me. Please."
"You know it has to be this way," his voice shook as a tear rolled down his cheek, "you know how it has to be. I will always love you. You have my heart, always and forever."
"Don't go," he started walking back to the window, refusing to look back over at you. You chased after him but he turned away, "please, Francisco. I'm begging you, I will do anything to get you to stay."
"Please don't…"
"W-we still have time," you were grasping at straws, but it was all you could think of doing, "we'll figure something out. What if I tell my parents we plan to marry? Or that I am with child?"
"They'll have me hanged before you could finish telling them and they'd force you to marry to cover up your pregnancy," you knew he was right.
"We can...we can make the most out of our time together," he turned to face you, and you met those eyes you'd fallen in love with one last time, "there is time...we can…"
"I don't think that's a good idea," he whispered softly, "we shouldn't make it harder than it already is. We can just end it now…"
"Please," you tried to grab his hand as he sidled along the ledge. Your soul felt like its light had been extinguished as he shook his head, recoiling from your touch as though it was laced with venom, "Francisco. I love you more than anything. You are my heart, my home-"
"Don't do this," his words cut like a knife at your throat as you realized he was serious. He wasn't coming back, "this ends tonight. If we keep going its only going to hurt worse. We'll cut our losses now. I love you, Princess, so damn much it takes my breath away. But this is the way."
"I love you," it was a strangled cry as you watched him go, "I will never love another. Only you."

And still, they’re happy as can be in that place they have together. Almost hate seeing one without the other, y’know, it’s like seeing just one testi- oh, right, I’m not supposed to talk like that. Anyhoo, I only say that because I saw Taehyung at a jewelry store the other day while I was buying my sweet Jiminie his presents. It was June of 1984 when you and your close friends returned to your jobs at the local drive-in theatre the last Summer before you started college.
It was your second year working here, and you were sad that it would be the last. It was an easy job. You'd work nights only five days a week. It was nice being able to make your own money and have fun with your friends while doing it.
You were working the concession stand tonight with Xavier Plympton. You had been friends with him the longest out of the bunch. He was one of the best co-workers you could ever ask for. Despite his constant complaining about dealing with customers, he was always armed with perfect comebacks when you were stuck dealing with a Karen. Plus, he did work hard, which was a relief. Some of the other teenagers you worked with were only there for the paycheck, clearly.
You were particularly excited because you were able to see the screen playing Gremlins and Ghostbusters. You rarely got to enjoy the movies. You were either working the ticket booth or continuously walking around, making sure nobody tried to sneak under the rotting wooden gates surrounding the lot.
It was just after 9:30 when Gremlins started, and you and Xavier had just finished up the line.
"Let's hope the crowd stays away so we can clean up." he sighed, stretching his arms above his head. The ugly yellow shirts you had to wear rode up a little, and you caught yourself staring before a pair of hands covered your eyes.
"Gah!" you said, and you heard the loud laugh of Montana Duke behind you.
"Sheesh, you're such a scaredy-cat!"
"I was distracted!" you said, your cheeks burning as you started to wipe down the counter, which was covered in popcorn kernels. "Shouldn't you be with Brooke right now?"
Montana slid over the countertops, going to the pop machine where she started filling up two cups. "We're parched, it's just now starting to cool down a bit. Larry is making us patrol for the next forty-five minutes before the others take over."
You nodded, scrubbing a particularly stubborn spot of butter that was probably from the night before.
Xavier had laughed at what Montana said, and you immediately knew why. They had been caught in quite the compromising position the first night the theatre was opened this season. You were surprised they hadn't been fired, and Brooke had given two shifts away after the fact to avoid being questioned about it.
"He's a fucking pervert anyway," Montana said, putting lids on both cups. "I gotta go. Be good!" she called sweetly before she bounced out of the rickety building.
"I wish these fucking fans would work!" Xavier grumbled, fumbling with the switch of the nearest overhead fan. It made a creaking noise, the metal blades moving an inch before it stopped.
"They're ancient," you laughed, finally getting the spot cleaned. "Candace told me they've been here since this place opened."
"These are like forty years old then, how fucking convenient," he grumbled, before giving up. "You'd think they could afford to replace them."
"Watch your language," you scolded. "We don't need another complaint."
Xavier smirked at you, starting to restock the popcorn buckets. "y/n, you should really stop being so uptight, babe." he teased you.
"I am not uptight!" you gasped, your mouth falling open as you dropped the rag into the sanitizer bucket.
"Exactly what someone uptight would say!" he retorted, laughing at you, his hands methodically stacking the buckets handful by handful.
"You won't think it's amusing when you're fired, you ass!" you said, causing Xavier to throw his head back and laugh rambunctiously.
"That's the least of my worries, babe," he grinned at you, and you felt your heart swell. "What would you do without me?" he said.
"I'd probably actually get some work done..." you mumbled, starting to refill the popcorn machine with fresh kernels. "But I'd have to deal with the bitchy Karens all on my own."
"Watch your language!" Xavier mocked you, balling up the plastic and tossing it in the nearest trash-can. "Hey y/n- oh, someone is coming."
You told Xavier you would take care of the customer as he started restocking the cups, watching as you showed the young boy all of the ice creams you had. He was cute, probably no older than eleven with thick-framed glasses and a toothy smile.
"Thank you, Miss," he said, before hurrying out.
"I think he liked you," Xavier said as you closed the register. "That's cute."
You rolled your eyes, seeing Larry sitting in the projection room, already asleep. "Shut up, he's young."
The next half-an-hour you only helped two other customers. Many people came to use the bathrooms, but other than that, you were alone with Xavier. You had cleaned up everything there was to clean, and you decided to dig out the book you brought to pass the time.
Xavier watched the screen through the large window next to the entrance, the portable stereo tuned into the theatre's station. He was very amused by Gizmo, even gushing at the little creature.
"That's cute," you mumbled to yourself, chewing on your lip to keep from giggling.
"I heard that," he said crossly, his eyes on you now.
"I didn't say anything," you shrugged, bookmarking your page. "I'm hungry, I want a pretzel."
"Lucky for you, I popped one in for you," Xavier said, gesturing towards the pretzel heater right next to him. "It should be done now."
"Thank you, Xavier!" you said happily, coming over and taking it out. Xavier watched you, and he reached next to him for a bucket of popcorn he had gotten for himself. He put a handful in his mouth as you started pouring nacho cheese into a plastic container.
"Hey, y/n?" he asked again, looking at you.
"Yes?" you asked, watching the hot cheese, feeling your stomach growl with hunger.
"Do you remember my friend Chet? He graduated last year?"
You nodded, moving to sit next to him on the counter. "The cute dark-haired kid who is really athletic?"
"That's him," Xavier said, stuffing more popcorn into his mouth. "I ran into him the other day, and I told him I was working here again. He said he worked here for a season before we met."
You encouraged him to keep going, wondering where this was going. You knew Chet Clancy, mainly because he was a popular jock who dated multiple girls throughout the years. You have only spoken a few words with him in your entire life, but he was sweet enough.
"Uhm..." he said, looking a little nervous now. You thought it was odd, he rarely became this way around you. "He asked about you."
You perked up, tearing your pretzel in half as you watched him see if he were joking. He wasn't, looking you dead in the eyes, and you could see he was honest.
"He asked about me?" you asked, shocked.
"Yeah, he kind of... Hinted, that he was interested in you."
You found yourself smiling. "Really? I never really talked to him..."
Xavier nodded, "I know. I was a little shocked myself."
You ate some of your food, now thinking about dating Chet Clancy. You never would have imagined it, and not even because you rarely knew him. He just seemed so out of reach. You weren't the "normal" crowd he hung out with.
"Wow... That's insane," you said simply.
"Yeah... But I kind of choked up and said we were dating."
You spit out your tiny bite of food, covering your mouth as Xavier looked at you with wide eyes. "WE'RE NOT DATING!"
"Shh!" Xavier said, almost dropping his popcorn in an attempt to cover your mouth. "I know, y/n, I don't even know what happened," he growled, tossing the bucket aside. "I panicked."
"Why would you panic?" you asked, wrinkling your nose as you picked up your un-chewed food with a napkin and tossed it in the bin. "We're friends."
"I got... Jealous," he replied lamely.
You glanced up at him, and he was looking at his lap, his face wrinkled in embarrassment. You were thrown for a loop. As long as you had known each other, not once did there seem to be any romantic inclination. Of course, you've crushed on him a bit, I mean, who wouldn't? He was funny, charismatic, gorgeous, and saw something in you that he wanted to be your friend.
"Why?" was all you managed, your voice hushed and confused.
"It made me realize that I like you. And we're not little kids anymore. If I didn't tell you how I felt, then I might lose the opportunity to tell you." he said, before laughing dryly, "I guess it took another guy being interested in you for me to wise up and stop being an idiot."
You started to grin at him, and Xavier looked relieved. "Does this mean you're not mad?"
"I'm not mad," you assured him, putting your food to the side. "I'm just surprised. I never would have thought..."
"Babe, I'm clearly head over heels for you, I tease you relentlessly because I like to make you laugh. And I like when you get snappy with me." he grinned at you, his eyes sparkling as you heard a group of teenagers pile into the bathroom, giggling.
You scooted closer to Xavier, and you could smell his body wash. "I just thought it meant you liked to pick on me."
He threw his arm over your shoulder, pulling you into his side. "I do, with love."
After that, you had spent the rest of Gremlins talking, sitting close to each other, and giggling madly. You had to go back to work once intermission started, and you felt your heart-beating wildly every time you heard Xavier's voice. You listened as girls giggled and whispered about him, cashing them out with a broad smile. At one point, you heard him go, "Sorry, ladies, I'm taken."
When the last movie started, you turned off all the machines, cleaning everything down quickly. The one thing you liked about this theatre is that intermission was the final call. You'd have time to clean up and be on your way home before the second movie was even half-way through.
You had set aside some food for the others while you finished up. Brooke Thompson and Montana came in, taking some leftovers and asking if you wanted to watch Ghostbusters.
"We'll be out in a bit," Xavier said, gesturing to the broom he was holding. "Whoever worked in here last time did a shit job."
"Cool, we'll be in my car!" Montana said, before scurrying out with Brooke, their arms full of popcorn, soda, and nachos.
"I'm so ready to skip this joint!" Xavier said after he finished swimming, and you switched off the first set of lights.
"Me too. Are there any nachos left?" you asked, locking up the safe.
"Just enough for the both of us," he replied. You stood up, walking over to him, and you ended up tripping over your shoes, colliding with his chest.
"Oh shit, you alright?" he asked, grabbing you tightly.
"I'm fine!" you laughed, looking up at his figure towering over you. "I think I tripped over the crack in the floor..."
Xavier stared down at you, and you felt his hand come up and brush against your cheek. You felt your skin tingle underneath his touch. "We're gonna get caught."
"I don't care," Xavier whispered before he leaned down and pressed his lips to yours.
You held your breath as you melted into his touch. You've been in a few relationships before in your time, but nothing ever compared to what you were currently feeling. Xavier held your head in his hands, your kiss becoming more heated until you felt him pulling you towards the back, where the storage was kept.
"We're gonna get-."
Xavier cupped a hand over your mouth, pulling you into the closet before shutting the door. There was a single light hanging above you that he flicked on, and you could barely see the movie screen from the rectangular window sitting high above your heads.
"Trust me, Babe. If you're quiet, we'll be fine."
You nodded, holding onto him as Xavier pushed an empty box onto the floor, lifting you up and setting you on top of a sturdy table. There wasn't a whole lot of room. He reached over to lock the door.
"What are you doing?" You asked, kicking off your shoes. You were wearing denim shorts, and the air around you was much colder than you expected. You got goosebumps as Xavier played with the button of your shorts.
"Could I take these off?" He asked.
You nodded shyly, biting your lip as he slowly unbuttoned them, the only sound being your shared breathing and the zipper being lowered down.
"Have you done this before, y/n?" He asked, his hands gripping the waistband of your shorts.
"I've done a few things..." you said, your cheeks becoming hot.
"I'll be gentle, I promise." He said, before starting to tug your undergarments off. You lifted your hips, and he quickly let them drop to the floor. Outside you could hear the audience collectively laughing at something.
Xavier shed out of his shirt, throwing it on the nearest shelf. He wasn't overly muscular but was nicely toned. You've seen him shirtless many times over the years, but this time was different. He was beautiful.
"Are you enjoying the view?" He asked arrogantly, flashing you a smile as you instinctively crossed your legs. "Ah, spread them for me, babe." He kindly scolded.
"Of course, I am!" You respond, "You're hot, and you know it, babe."
"Cute," he winked at you, before looping his arms underneath your legs. Your breath caught in your throat as he pulled you closer, spreading your legs out for him. You could feel how wet you were against the crisp air, and you wanted to die from embarrassment at how easily you became aroused.
"Remember to stay quiet." He said, grinning at you mischievously. "You don't want to get caught."
You squeezed your eyes shut at his arrogance. "Fuck you."
The words had barely left your mouth when you felt his tongue lick a quick swipe along your thigh. You shuddered at the feeling; your stomach trembling as Xavier purposely teased you. You weren't lying when you said you have a little experience. But, you never received oral before. You gave it once, and that was it.
You let out a quiet gasp as he finally licked along your folds, your hands itching to grab onto his hair already. You refrained, lifting them above your head to keep from messing anything up.
Xavier was skilled as he ran his tongue gingerly along your folds, before pushing his tongue inside. The feeling caused hundreds of butterflies to fly over your stomach. Your thighs clenched as he adjusted his hold on you, kneeling down to push his head deeper between your legs.
"Oh, fuck!" You said a little too loudly before you felt his hand covering your mouth. You mewled and sighed against him as Xavier slowly ate you out. You always heard from Montana that it was one of the best feelings in the world, but you never imagined it being quite like this.
Nor did you ever expect to be here with Xavier, but life was crazy.
You grabbed onto Xavier's arm as he started sucking on your clit. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head when he teased your entrance with a single finger, barely testing the waters.
You were lost in the feeling when suddenly the door handle rattled. You jumped out of your skin, nearly trapping Xavier between your thighs when you heard the security guards' high-pitched voice. "Fuck! Larry must have locked it before he left."
Xavier freed himself, prepared to cover you with his body when the voice of Mason, a co-worker say, "It's fine, we'll just have to look in there tomorrow. I can't find the key anywhere."
You heard their footsteps fade away, and you and Xavier both glanced at each other, before giggling madly.
"I'm sorry, y/n," he whispered in your ear.
"It's not your fault?" You said, running your hand along his face now.
"I'm gonna go back down here now," he said, kissing your hand before slinking down your body again. You let him go, now covering your own mouth as he grabbed your legs, his mouth instantly closing over your clit.
"That's it, baby," he encouraged, his fingers once again teasing your entrance. "I'm gonna make you cum in my mouth."
Xavier continued until you were shaking so severely that he had to hold you down by the hips, almost forcing you to keep your legs open. Xavier pumped a finger inside of you, his thumb meeting your clit while his tongue teased it simultaneously.
You came in minutes, sighing loudly against your hand as Xavier cleaned you up, before placing kisses along your thighs. You breathed heavily as you sat up, quickly taking off your shirt, revealing your bra.
"Fuck, y/n," he said, allowing you to unbutton his pants, your hands fumbling to get them off as soon as possible. "You're hot."
"And horny, so please take off your pants." You begged, reaching behind you to unclasp your bra. When you were completely naked, you stared at Xavier's dick, wondering how in the hell it was supposed to fit.
"Don't look so scared, babe," Xavier said, cupping your cheeks in his hands. "Have you?..."
You shook your head, "I never got this far."
Xavier nuzzled your neck, and you wrapped your legs around him as he kissed along your skin, trailing along your collarbone before placing kisses on your jawline.
"Do you have a condom?" You asked, suddenly having an epiphany on the importance of safe sex.
"There's a box behind the pack of lightbulbs," he said, and you pulled back to look at him. "Chet told me about them, I swear."
Xavier wasted no time grabbing a condom from said hiding place, and you watched as he slid it on with ease. You wrapped a leg around his hips again, and he hugged you while he pressed kisses to your face.
"Let me know if I'm hurting you, baby girl," he whispered, and you nodded, holding him tightly.
You focused on the sound of more laughter from the audience, keeping your breathing under control as Xavier slowly pushed inside of you. He felt you tense up, holding you tightly and not moving until you encouraged him to do so.
After a few moments, you told him to move, figuring it would worsen before it got better. Xavier nodded, still holding you tight as he rocked his hips into yours, both of you panting as you grew more comfortable having his dick inside of you.
When you felt a lot better, you laid flat against the table, keeping a leg wrapped around him while he increased his pace. Xavier's face was screwed up as the pleasure coursed throughout your body. His large hand reached forward, grabbing at your breasts while you attempted to keep your moans at bay.
"Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck," you said, trying to keep your leg from slipping off his hip.
"You're so fucking hot, babe," he said, leaning over you until you were almost nose to nose. "I want you to come for me, y/n,"
You shook your head, not wanting this to stop.
Xavier hid his laugh, increasing his face slightly. "You're going to fucking come for me, y/n."
"Make. Me." You said through clenched teeth.
Xavier laughed now, adjusting your free leg enough to easily slip his hand over your clit. He rubbed you out with his thumb, focusing on you, wanting you to come before he did.
"That's it," Xavier cooed as you finally clinched around him, crying out behind your hand as he slowed down, watching as you coated his length. "Fuck..."
You dug your heel into his skin as Xavier came, his hips stilling as he kneeled over you, kissing you deeply. You were breathless as he kissed you fiercely, hardly allowing you a break until he climbed off you.
You sat up, feeling light. "That was amazing."
Xavier grinned at you, pulling on his boxers after taking off the condom. "It's all you babe, not me."

Gravity Falls/LIS2 AU
The last place Sean wants to spend his Summer is in a weird town in the middle of no where, Oregon, reconnecting with a Mother who hadn’t wanted to see them in years in her weird tourist trap. But Daniel is determined to go and his Dad gives Sean little choice but to babysit him.
But soon it becomes clear there is more to Beaver Creek than meets the eye and the strangeness of the town soon unlocks some family secrets and strange abilities. Maybe their Summer won’t be so boring after all.
AO3
“Lyla, I will die of boredom.”
“It can’t be that bad,” she replied, her voice a little tinny still. The bad reception was just one of many reasons that Sean was having an awful time. (In the week and a half since they had arrived, he’d already made a list.)
“Nope, it is exactly as bad as I’m saying.”
“I mean, come on, you’re Mom’s there. What’s that like that?”
Sean scowled. “Number one on reasons this place sucks. All she talks to us about is all this weird mystic stuff she likes. Her store is so weird, it’s all crystals and bad poetry.”
Lyla snorted. “Really?”
“Yep. Not to mention this is the whitest town ever.” He glanced out the window, where Karen was smoking, notebook in hand and ducked his head before she could spot him. “There are no cool people.”
“Come on, you have Danny.”
“I get enough babysitting at home thanks.” He glanced outside again, wondering exactly how long he could bitch on the phone for and call it a break. “Anyway, this place is just making Daniel weirder. He’s convinced this place is magic or something.”
“That’s sweet. Hey, we used to play witches when we were kids, remember?”
“Hey, you were the witch, I was a manly wizard.”
That time Lyla actually laughed. “Sure dude. I’ll believe it when I see it.”
“Anyway, we were into the Harry Potter books, you know before terf-face ruined them. Daniel is into the ancient runes and fake spell cards Mo- Karen sells.”
“That’s adorable.”
“Ugh, only you could find him adorable. That’s only because Daniel doesn’t kick you in your sleep-”
“Did Lyla call me adorable?”
Sean sighed as Daniel barged in. Not much had changed since home tehre at least, apart from the fact they now shared Karen’s attic room. (Bunk beds, making the being kicked in the shin at night thing even more annoying.)
“Hey, I’m kinda on the-”
Daniel yanked the phone and rolled on the bed. “Hiiiiii Lyla. Do you miss us?”
“Give me that back.”
He wiggled out of his grap. “Did you know Sean talks in his sleep, it’s so weird-”
“You would know about weird,” he grumbled, snatching his phone back, only to find the shitty signal had finally cut out on Lyla. “Dude.”
“Sorry.” Daniel grinned at him. “Hey, I’m helping Mom restock, can you help me reach the top shelves?”
He checked the time on his phone. He had almost managed a whole brother-free hour.
“Guess I should I get back to work.”
“Cool.” Daniel followed him downstairs, bouncing with energy. “Hey, Sean what does terf-face mean?”
  Sean was stuck behind the register, although the store was still empty. He wasn’t sure why Karen insisted on such early opening hours when no one else showed up.
He rubbed his eyes, the early start not helped by the fact Daniel had been reading with a torch all night. He had picked up a weird book from the store or something. Of course he would pick up a late night reading habit once they were sharing a room.
“I brought you guys some toast.” Karen balanced the plate on the top of some unsold art books. (Her organization was as great as her parenting.)
“Thanks Mom!”
Sean poked at a black spot under a thick layer of peanut butter. “Yeah, thanks.”
“I gotta do some inventory but I’ll be back up for lunch.”
“Can we go to the cool diner? Chris says the milkshakes are great.”
Karen smiled. “Yeah. Does that sound good Sean?”
He grunted in response and her grin flickered.
“Right, work. You boys got this.”
“We’re not your boys,” Sean muttered, although she didn’t hear.
“Why are you so mean to Mom?” Daniel asked, his mouth full of toast. “She’s always nice.”
“Right, she’s been real nice the first nine years of your life.”
Daniel looked up at him with big eyes. “Sean…”
“Fine, I’ll try. Put those eyes away Bambi.”
He smiled. “So, I was thinking the strawberry milkshakes are Chris’ favourite but I like chocolate more so you could get one and we could share?”
“Huh, yeah, sure.” Sean had only been half listening, distracted by the newest customer. Waking up early suddenly had its appeal. The girl had matted purple hair, an arm full of tattoos and a guitar strapped to her back. She caught him looking and winked.
“Are you okay Sean? You just went really red and-”
“What? No. Shut up.” Sean moved into a more casual position, his eyes still fixed on the pretty girl. His elbow knocked the tip jar and it fell off the edge. “Shit-”
“Here.” Daniel put it back. “Woah…”
“Good catch Enano.”
“Yeah. Catch! I totally caught it.” Daniel smiled a little suspiciously. “Hey, you said a swear, you owe me a dollar.”
“A dollar? It’s only a quarter at home.”
“Now we’re away from Dad, you’re supposed to be a good influence.”
“You get a quarter.” Sean dropped the coin in his hand. “Be cool.”
“What?”
“Hey boys.” The purple-haired girl leaned against the other end of the counter, an easy smile on her face. Her voice had a faint Southern tang. “So, I come to this town every Summer and I don’t recognise either of you cuties.”
“I- we- um-”
His brother beat him to it. “I’m Daniel.”
Cursing his stammering, he finally managed to introduce himself. “I’m Sean.”
“Why hello. I’m Cassidy.”
“Hi. Um, cool guitar. You play?” (Internally, Sean cringed: You play? Why else would she have a guitar?)
“Yeah, funnily enough. I’m actually here to hand out flyers for my band’s show. Could you hang it up?”
“Yeah.” Sean took the flyer. “Your show is this Friday?”
“And every other Friday. You wanna come?”
“I’m invited?”
Cassidy laughed. “Yeah sure. It is a concert. You’re lucky you’re cute, City Boy.”
“City boy?”
“It’s on your sweatshirt idiot,” Daniel whispered. Seattle Track Meet, 2015. He was frowning in the general direction of Cassidy. “We’re busy Friday so-”
“No. Nope, I’m not busy. Ignore him.” Sean flattened his hair. “I’ll be there Friday.”
“I’ll look out for you City Boy. Nice to meet you.”
Sean waited until Cassidy had left before pumping his fist. “Yes! She called me cute Dan!”
“You’re the worst.”
“What?”
Daniel pouted. “You promised you’d take me camping in the woods Friday. I already brought us marshmallows and walkie-talkies.”
“Hey, there is plenty of time to camp in those freaky woods. But I only have one chance with a girl like Cassidy.”
“Wrong, you have zero chances with any girl.” Daniel stomped off to the corner of the store. “You’re the worst.”
“Dan- come on.” His brother went back to ignoring him. Sean crossed his arms. “Fine. Be like that!”
There was the only sound of a raspberry in response.
  “Nope, I’m totally with Danny. That was a jerk move.”
“What? Lyla, you’re supposed to be my hype man- er woman. You’re always trying to set me up on dates.”
“Dude, three weeks ago you were so into Jenn.”
He sighed. “And Jenn was into Derek Anderson. We had ice cream and everything.”
“Dude, don’t fuck up your relationship with Danny over a dumb Summer romance.”
Sean buried his head in his pillow. “You sound like my Dad.”
“Go to this hippy girl’s show next time. You Danny will do the face.”
“The Bambi face?” Sean groaned. “I have been facing the Bambi face all week.”
Lyla scoffed. “Is there anything else to add?”
“Fine. I’ll go camping. But only for the s’mores.”
“Okay, brother of the year.”
“Thanks jerk.”
Lyla blew him an exaggerated kiss. “Aw, love you too.”
Sean grabbed his backpack, moving to shove in his hoodie and torch. Daniel had already shoved one of the walkie-talkies inside.
“Calling little wolf, we are back on for camping.”
There was nothing but static on the other end. Sean pocketed the walkie-talkie and headed downstairs, calling his brother’s name. There was no one in the kitchen and only Karen sitting in the living room, chewing on the edge of a pen.
“Hey, have you seen Daniel?”
Karen looked up. “Oh, I thought you already left? Daniel passed by twenty minutes ago with the sleeping bags.”
“That little-” Sean wasn’t panicking, but he was maybe sweating a little more than he had been before. “Um, right. I just forget a…” he scanned the room and grabbed Daniel’s weird book, “scary story. Classic camping right?”
“Oh. Have a nice time then.” Karen hesitated. “I know you’re not thrilled to be here. But I hope by the end of the Summer we can understand each other better.
“Me too.” Sean tried to look as un-guilty as possible. “See you tomorrow Karen.”
  “Daniel!” He yelled, running head first into the spooky mass of woodlands beyond their store. “Dan, I’m sorry okay. Quit hiding!”
No answer. Sean went digging for the walkie-talkie, now glowing an eerie blue.
“Dan?”
The walkie-talkie crackled again- “Sean?”
“Dan.” He let out a shaky breath. “Hey, I’m sorry I ditched you-”
“Sean, help!”
He was clutching the walkie-talkie so hard his knuckles went white. “What’s wrong? I’m coming okay. What’s happening?”
“Creature- help- monster- ahh!”
Sean scanned the trees around him, suddenly aware he was lost too. Daniel had been the one eager to explore the woods but he had said it was too creepy and now it seemed he was being proven right.
“Sean- book- monster-”
He dug around to find the weird book Daniel had been carrying around all week. He had assumed it was from one of Karen’s displays but now he was looking at it, the journal seemed too real to go with the modern witchcraft bullshit she was trying to sell. The cover was dark blue and the pages thick with drawings and polaroids.
“Dan, I have the book, what do I need to look for? What is this thing?”
“Page- tree- monster-” Daniel was breathing heavily. “Hear?”
“I can hear you,” he said comfortingly, “I’m coming.”
He held the torch in his teeth, flicking through pages until he came across a few marked with Daniel’s doodles and writing. He seemed to be studying telekinetic powers, complete with a superhero sketch: SUPER /DUDE DAN/ WOLF? ask Sean for name ideas
He finally came across the page that looked like a bush drawn with yellow eyes.
Dangerous

Hard to photograph shush ma-

Under the original writing Daniel had added his own note: babies in woods.
“Hey,” Sean held up the walkie-talkie, “is it these moss creatures? What well?”
“Sean!” This time Daniel’s voice was clearer, his voice steadier.
“Dan. What happened? Please tell me you had a good reason to go into the woods alone without telling me or Karen.”
“Come on, that’s it? Can you yell at me when I’m not being chased?”
“Okay. I’m coming, where are you?”
“Where are you?”
“By some trees. There’s a sign for a lake?”
“Go to the lake, I’ll meet you there.” Daniel was cut off by some more static. “Hey, stop chewing that Mushroom!”
Sean followed the signs, hoping Daniel at least would know a way out. How did he know the woods so well already? Was Sean that much of a shitty brother he hadn’t noticed him running off into these haunted-ass woods?
The lake slowly came into the view but it was empty.
“Daniel? Dan?”
The lake was weirdly normal, just muddy water and a few droopy looking frogs. Still, Sean was still on edge, swinging the heavy torch from hand to hand. The faster they got home, the better.
His relative peace was interrupted by the rustling of tree branches and heavy footsteps. Daniel came barging through the trees, a small bundle of something wrapped in his checked shirt. Something was chasing him and fast- Sean barely had time to move out the way as Daniel crashed into him. Something big and fast ran past.
“Sean!” Daniel threw himself into his arms. “I’m sorry, don’t yell at me.”
“I’m not mad. But you did scare the shit out of me.”
“Sean-”
“Fine, you get a dollar, let’s just go-”
“No, look.”
Sean turned slowly, met with amber eyes and a large face of bark and weeds. The creature sniffed at him curiously.
“Um-”
Daniel hid behind him. “Any ideas?”
“You have the stupid haunted book!” The creature snorted, blowing hot air in his face. “Wait, the book said-” Sean slowly moved for his pocket, finding Dad’s lighter.
“Dan, on three, we run.”
“One-” he reached for a branch, “two-” he flicked the lighter on, “three!” Sean held the flaming branch up the creature’s face, dragging Daniel out the way as it squirmed. “What, the light should have scared it off.”
“Remember when you said you weren’t going to get mad?”
Sean turned to him, as Daniel revealed the squirming mass of moss in his arms.
“You stole it’s kid?”
“I always wanted a puppy! She’s called Mushroom-”
Seeing it’s child, the larger creature started inching slowly towards Daniel.
“Put it down! We can’t keep this weird monster-baby!”
“We bonded!” The larger creature nudged its nose towards the smaller one, poking his chest with a spikey horn. “Okay, I’ll give her back.”
Daniel held out his arms, placing the small creature on the floor. It wiggled a loose vine that could almost be a tail and followed its parents into the woods.
Sean punched him in the arm. “That’s for trying to adopt an actual monster.”
Daniel rubbed his arm. “Ouch.”
Sean pulled him into a hug. “And that’s for scaring the shit out of me. I’m glad you’re okay though.”
“Me too.” Daniel smiled. “Hey, now you owe me two dollars!”
  After all the excitement, the brothers’ settled on camping in Karen’s yard.
“So, you found that spooky book in a tree and didn’t think to tell me?”
“You were being the worst!”
Sean laughed. “Okay, I deserve that. But, next time you find a weird monster thing, tell me. We’re in this together.”
“Okay promise.” Daniel threw another marshmallow at him. “Sorry I made you miss your concert. I guess Cassidy wasn’t that bad.”
“Hey, I saved your butt, that’s more important.” Sean took a bite out a s’more. “Hey, there isn’t anything else you’re not telling me right?”
“Actually,” Daniel held out his hand, a marshmallow hoovering a few inches above his palm. “Surprise?”
(A boring Summer suddenly looked so much more appealing.)

Enter freely and of your own will [GNR, Sluff AU]
I know, I know, I've written vampire AUs before… Several times.  But I had to write something about what a nerd Slash is for vampire fiction!  Mostly inspired by interviews Slash gave after gnr covered Sympathy For The Devil for Interview With A Vampire (so any digs at the movie adaptation are based on Slash’s opinion, not mine – I’ve never seen it!).  Occasional mentions of blood and stuff, but not particularly graphic.  This fic is expanding on an AU I originally drew here.
~~~~
In my mind, it all played out like the plot of a paranormal romance novel.  I’ve gotten familiar with those lately, thanks to the collection hidden in the bottom shelves of Slash’s library, buried below the gothic horror classics, the crime thrillers, and about a mountain of nonfiction.  Hell, I could probably write my own!  “Tall blonde unexpectedly falls for rock and roll bad boy with a dark secret,” yeah, the readers would eat that up.  Of course, our love story didn’t really start when the unsuspecting protagonist moved to a new city, or when the leather-clad love interest showed off his supernatural shredding skills.  No, I’d say it started a couple years later, when I found out Slash’s other deep, dark, embarrassing secret.
It wasn’t a dark and stormy night… but it was a movie night at my place, a tradition for Slash and I.  Whenever we needed a break from the so-called rockstar lifestyle, we’d get together for a night in, smoke some pot and put on a movie. Slash laid back on my couch while I dug through a cabinet packed with VHS tapes and listed off a few options:
“Let’s see, we have Jurassic Park, Alien, Interview With a Vampire – Uh, sorry, I guess that would be weird huh?”  Slash made a sour face.
“Ugh.  I hate that movie, it’s such a bad adaptation. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, seriously?”
“Wait,” I dropped The Empire Strikes Back and Blazing Saddles onto the growing heap of tapes and sat back on my heels to look at Slash in surprise. "You’ve seen it before?”
“Uh…” Vampires may not be able to blush but I'd known Slash long enough to tell when he’s flustered.
“And you’ve read the book?”
“… Yes?”  I laughed, Slash ducked and hid his face, obviously feeling self-conscious, but I didn’t mean to laugh at him.  It was just…
I’d assumed that a real-life vampire would roll their eyes at the cliche, over-romanticized movie interpretations of their kind.  Instead, I learned of Slash’s (nearly) indiscriminate love for all things vampire, anything from Carmilla to Buffy The Vampire Slayer.  He was a sucker (hah, get it?) for dripping fangs, swishing capes, even those crazy accents, ever since he was a kid.  And I can’t lie, it was pretty endearing.  I wasn’t in love with him yet, but the more he told me about his obsession, the more warm and tingly I felt, charmed by how genuine he was – Hell, I barely even teased him about it!  Somehow, that conversation felt even more personal than finding out he was a damn vampire.  I was really touched that he felt comfortable sharing his interests with me, that he trusted me with his softer, nerdier, more romantic side.
I resisted the temptation to press for more details that night, but a month or so later, I caught him in the act!  I remember waking up in the afternoon after crashing at his place so late it was early the night before.  I wandered around his big, spooky house until I found Slash curled up in one of his fancy antique armchairs, his legs dangling over the armrest and a paperback book cradled in his lap.  I couldn’t make out the curlicued script on the cover, but from the captivated look on his face it was a favorite – his eyes were bright as they darted across the page, and his lips curled into a warm, gentle smile.
I couldn’t stand to disturb him, so I snuck off before he noticed me in the doorway, and headed down the hall to the room he’d transformed into a tiny library – The man had a library in his house; between that and the subtly gothic decor it was hard to believe I never noticed that Slash was playing up the vampire aesthetic, consciously or not!  Anyway, I poked around until I found where he hid his collection of vampire lit, and snatched a few that were, shall we say, not quite as acclaimed as Dracula or even The Vampire Chronicles.  I don’t remember the titles, but there were a couple paperback romances and a horror novel with a badass-looking dude on the cover.
I had to see what all the fuss was about, you know?  Yeah, this kind of thing wasn’t exactly up my alley, but Slash usually had good taste, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to check it out.  Plus, if it was important to Slash, I wanted to know about it!  And not just the well-known classics either; I wanted the guilty pleasures, I wanted to see what it was that could make Slash smile like that when no one was watching.
I’ll be honest, it wasn’t bad.  I wasn’t a big reader at the time, but I raced through the horror novel in just two days, and trust me, I barely slept the night in between!  The trashy romance was more enjoyable than I would ever admit; even with all the cliches and melodrama there was something compelling about unraveling the tangled web of forbidden love in a world full of the supernatural.
At this point, I was very cautiously beginning to entertain the idea that I might see Slash as more than just a buddy and a bandmate.  As friends, were were closer than ever, hardly spent a day apart, and I was beginning to notice things that I hadn’t noticed before.  Things like the way he always smiled at my lame jokes, the way he leaned on my shoulder when he was pretending to be drunk, the way he tossed his hair on stage… And I couldn’t help wondering whether Slash identified more with the heroine or the love interest.  Did he want to be the cool, mysterious vampire lover, or the unsuspecting protagonist who gets drawn into an alluring new world?
I got my answer a couple months later, in town again after a leg on the road. It was a steaming hot summer day back in L.A., and Slash was dozing on his couch. This wasn’t unusual in and of itself, Slash’s sleep schedule had been fucked for as long as I'd known him. No, what made this instance significant was that I was also on the couch, reclined with my feet over the armrest and Slash draped across my chest. Tales From The Crypt played at a murmur on a brand-new TV set, but I wasn’t paying any attention.
See, at this point I’d recently learned that, when Slash focused hard enough, he could hear a living person’s blood pulsing in their veins and detect changes in body temperature.  And that had me wondering: Could he tell that my heart beat faster when he leaned against me on stage?  Could he tell that my ears got warm every time he turned a smile my way?
Could he tell how much I was affected by his weight on top of me?
He was like a huge cat in my lap, relaxed from head to toe.  If you paid attention, you could tell that he was breathing more slowly that an ordinary human should be and his bare skin was slightly cool.  Other than that he looked completely normal… Except for his teeth.  His mouth was slightly open, allowing his pointed, knife-sharp teeth to scrape against his lower lip.
To Slash’s chagrin, they weren't gleaming white, perfectly straight fangs; instead they more closely resembled a shark’s jaw, crowded with small flesh-tearing blades.  It was rare to see them exposed, Slash was careful to limit himself to tight-lipped smiles and mumbled dialogue whenever his secret was at risk. Even in private he was self-conscious about it, and I considered myself lucky when he grinned openly in my presence.
“Hey, Slash?”
“…Hmm?” Languidly, he shifted until he was looking up at me.  Midafternoon sun leaked through the blinds brightly enough for me to make out a hint of red in his eyes, the other (un)dead giveaway that was usually obscured by his sedately lidded gaze.
"You know how you said the other day that you have really strong senses? Well... I was wondering what other, uh, non-human traits you have. How true are the myths about vampires, really?”
“Well… Hm.  My eyes are pretty sensitive to daylight.  And technically I’m nocturnal.  But I don’t have fangs, I don’t really look like a vampire and I don’t have superpowers.” I swear to god, he pouted a little.  "All things considered I didn’t really get any of the cool stuff."
“No super-strength?  Or mind reading? Can you shapeshift into a bat?”
“Don’t you think I’d tell you if I could turn into a bat?  At least I don’t have any of those stupid weaknesses, I can be in the sun and eat garlic and whatever.” He paused ponderously. “…You know, I might be immortal, I was around a long time before Tony and Ola took me in.  Guess I’ll find out in a few decades.”
“That would be pretty cool.”
“Yeah, maybe."
“So... do you enthrall your victims?” I prodded, in a spooky, menacing voice belied by my goofy grin.
Slash snorted a laugh and shook his head at my antics. “No, I can’t do that either.  Well, I don’t know, do you feel enthralled?”
I laughed awkwardly and counted my blessings when Slash didn't notice that my unspoken answer was an empathetic Yes.
Slash chuckled with me, then sighed.  “Fuck, I wish vampires like that were real, though…” he confessed softly.
“Like what?”
“You know, badass, seductive, awesome powers…” He waved a hand toward a pinup poster on the wall with a corset and fangs, then let his head fall back to my chest.  He mumbled into my shirt, “Is it really so much to ask for a sexy vampire to come and sweep me off my feet?”
“Slash, I hate to tell you this, but…” I couldn’t make it through the sentence with a straight face.
He swatted my bicep – pretty hard too, was he sure he didn’t have super-strength? “Fuck you, Duff, you know what I mean."
And, yeah, dreaming of being wooed by a beautiful, badass, intelligent and darkly mysterious vampire?  Who appeared in my life and changed it forever, who blew me away with his capability and his passion?  Who could captivate me with just a look?
Yeah. Believe me, I could relate.
Error 404: “Little” Brother Not Found
SUMMARY: Liam Jones loves his little brother, he truly does. And if that love takes the form of good natured teasing, well, what’s the harm in that? Sure it annoys Killian but that’s kind of the point, and anyway Killian’s still just a lad. Liam’s sure he only just started shaving last year at the earliest. So when he stumbles on Killian mid-dalliance with a certain blonde princess, Liam is forced to reassess a lot of things about his “little” brother, many of which do. not. compute.
a/n: ahahahahaha yeah. So this sprang, as so many mad things do, from a discord discussion about how Liam might react to the discovery that his little brother, the awkward, blushing, nerdy Lieutenant Jones, is in actual fact not so awkward anymore and involved with Princess Emma. Involved, in multiple senses of the word.
I have never been a huge fan of Liam, full disclosure, and I particularly dislike it when their interactions infantilise Killian and take away from his own qualities and accomplishments. So while Liam in this fic does not die or get hurt in any physical way, he does have a few fairly painful revelations. And of course the full DOES NOT COMPUTE meltdown. NOT SORRY.
This is modern Lieutenant Duckling. Imagine Misthaven as a 21st century minor European kingdom.
Liam Jones likes to think of himself as a reasonable man. He’s an honest man, and an honourable one. Those two attributes have never been in question. He’s frequently an impatient man, and sometimes a judgemental one, as his little brother Killian tells him frequently. Killian also calls him a stubborn arse, and Liam has to admit that this might also be valid, but when Killian accuses him of being unreasonable, well, that’s where he draws the line.
He’s perfectly reasonable. Perfectly. What’s unreasonable are Killian’s objections to a) being called ‘little brother’—he is little, after all, by comparison to Liam’s greater height and broader shoulders—and b) his refusal to allow his older and wiser and bigger brother to help him find a girl.
“I do not require your input on that subject, thank you very much,” Killian snarls. “Kindly back the fuck off.”
“But Tink is really nice,” wheedles Liam, as they walk from where his ship is moored in the harbour and into the town to have some lunch. Killian no longer serves on the same ship, having accepted a secondment about a year ago to work on a highly specialised project for the Royal Council. But whenever Liam is in port they make a point of spending as much time as they can together.
“I’m sure she is,” Killian sighs. “Not interested.”
“She’s pretty, too.”
“I don’t doubt it. Still not interested.”
“Look, Killian, I’m only trying to help—”
“No, you’re trying to control me as you always do. I’m twenty-four years old, Liam! I’m an officer in the Royal Navy, same as you, and trust me when I tell you I am more than capable of finding my own women!”
Liam scoffs at this. Killian only just started shaving, he’s sure of it, and the last time he witnessed his little brother trying to interact with a female Killian stumbled over his own feet and spilled his drink down the front of her dress.
He still brings that one up.
-
The next day he goes to visit Killian at the project’s headquarters in the palace library. On his way there he runs into Princess Emma—almost literally, as she’s not paying any attention to where she’s going, strolling along with a sort of dazed, dreamy look in her eyes, and he does his best to catch her as respectfully as possible by the elbow before she slams into him.
“Begging your pardon, Your Highness,” he says, with a small bow.
“Oh! Captain Jones!” Emma blinks in surprise. “Er—I apologise, my mind was wandering.”
Liam bows again. “No trouble at all, Princess.”
He stands aside so she can pass and watches her go with a smile on his face, wondering if he should tease Killian about it now or wait until later. Liam flatters himself he has a good relationship with Princess Emma; he served as a member of her personal guard for a short time and they have always got on well. Killian on the other hand, always flushes bright pink whenever her name is mentioned and makes stuttering excuses for why he has a pressing need to be anywhere that she is not.
It’s adorable, Liam thinks. Killian has a little crush.
He finds his brother in the palace library, leaning against a bookshelf like he needs it to hold him up. His colour is high and his hair is sticking up at the back.
“Lieutenant Jones!” Liam barks. “You are out of uniform!”
“I—what?” Killian scowls. “What are you on about, Liam, there’s nothing wrong with my uniform.”
Wordlessly, and with crisp, precise movements, Liam withdraws a comb from his uniform coat and hands it to his brother. Killian’s scowl deepens but he takes it and carefully tidies his hair before handing it back.
“What have you been doing in here that got your hair all mussed up?” Liam teases. “Research got you excited?”
“Something like that,” Killian mutters. “I—must’ve tugged on it when I was thinking.”
“Mmmm,” says Liam, and decides the best time to torture little brothers is always. “I ran into the princess on my way here,” he says casually, biting back a grin when Killian’s ears go pink.
“Did you?” He’s clearly trying hard to be casual but his voice comes out as more of a croak.
“Yep. It makes sense, I suppose. Her private apartments aren’t too far from here.”
Killian clears his throat. “I wouldn’t know anything about that.”
“Do you ever see her? Or do you hide in the bushes when she goes by?”
“Liam—” Killian growls warningly.
“I’m surprised you accepted this posting, actually, seeing as it means you’re working so close to where she lives. What are you going to do if she stops by to check on your progress? Stammer like a schoolboy in front of the rest of the project team? Run away?”
Killian’s eyes flash. “I expect I’d manage,” he snarls. “As I keep telling you I’m an adult—”
“—an adult, yes—”
“—and I do actually know how to speak to women!”
Liam smirks. “Somehow I don’t think Ariel would agree.”
“That was eight years ago, Liam! I was sixteen! And you know Ariel and I are friends now. You are literally the only person who ever talks about that anymore.”
“Well—”
“Do you know what your problem is?” Killian interrupts.
“I only have one?”
“The biggest of your many, many bloody irritating problems is that you refuse to see me as anything but a child. Not that you can’t you just won’t.” He sighs and runs a hand over his face. “I wish I knew how to make you.”
Liam feels a pang of guilt. He does rag on Killian quite a lot, it’s true, but it comes from a place of love. He’d been solely responsible for raising his brother from a time when he was barely more than a boy himself, and he loves Killian fiercely. He just doesn’t quite know how to express it.
“Hey,” he says, hooking his arm around Killian’s neck and ruffling his hair again. “Don’t be like that, little brother. I’m sorry.”
Killian pulls out of Liam’s grip and makes an ostentatious show of smoothing down his hair. “Sure,” he says.
Liam feels bad, and he doesn’t like it. “So, um, why don’t you show me what you’ve been working on?” he says, hoping this will distract Killian from the previous teasing.
It does. Killian brightens instantly. “Really?” he says. “You actually want to see it?”
“Of course I do.”
Liam doesn’t quite understand Killian’s project; it involves lots of complex equations and research into things that he never had the chance to study, but he’s immensely proud of his brother for being chosen to work on it. Killian is the youngest member of the team by a good ten years and his selection was a tremendous honour. Liam nearly burst with pride when he heard of it.
Not that he would ever tell Killian that.
Killian’s face is eager as he shows Liam the research he’s been doing and the presentation he’s preparing for the King and the Royal Council. Liam smiles and nods and lets him talk, his mind wandering.
-
Two days later Liam is back at the palace on business and he decides to see if Killian is free for dinner. He knocks on the door of the quarters his brother shares with the other members of the research team, who inform him that Killian isn’t there.
“He’s not around here much,” one of them says, with a knowing smirk. “I mean, I wouldn’t be either, in his shoes. Lucky git.”
“Can’t remember the last time he actually slept here,” adds another. “He ‘works late’ a lot.” The man makes quotation marks in the air with his fingers. “I’m guessing right now he’s busy ‘working’ real hard, you know?”
Liam does not, in fact, know. He has no idea what they could be talking about but it’s clear they think he does and so he plays along.
“Right. Well, er, better luck next time, I guess.”
He walks back to his ship, wondering what on earth Killian could be doing with his evenings if he’s not spending them in his quarters. Surely he’s not actually still at the library?
That lad needs to get himself a girl, Liam thinks. If only he would agree to a date with Tink.
The following Thursday is the day of Killian’s big presentation to the Royal Council. Liam arrives a few minutes early, thinking he might have to help calm his brother’s nerves. He takes a seat in the council chambers and looks around for Killian but he is nowhere to be seen.
Then the door opens and Killian arrives, quite at his ease as he greets the council members and bows to the king. Liam frowns. He expected his brother to be cripplingly nervous, flushing and stammering through his presentation, but the reality could hardly be more different. Killian stands confidently at the lectern, looking older than his years—when did his facial hair get so thick, Liam wonders—and when he begins to speak his voice is deep and calm, with a note of authority Liam has never heard in it before.
The crowd is riveted, hanging on his every word. The other members of the project team, the Royal Council, none can take their eyes off him. The king is actually taking notes, nodding to himself as Killian speaks.
Liam catches a glimpse of Princess Emma sitting near the back of the chamber. She’s not officially on the Council though of course she is heir to the throne and so he’s not surprised by her presence at an important event. He is a little bit thrown by the look on her face, though. It’s soft and a bit awed, with shining eyes and flushed cheeks and a sweet smile on her lips. He’s never seen her look like that before.
Killian concludes his presentation and opens the floor to questions from the audience. There are many, more than Liam anticipated, but Killian handles them all with aplomb, giving knowledgeable, definitive answers and not flinching even when the king himself challenges some of his conclusions. Killian stands straight with his shoulders square as they debate, and Liam gets the strangest feeling that both he and the king are enjoying themselves.
Liam is proud. He’s always been proud of his little brother, of course he has. Of course he knows that Killian is smart and tough and hard-working, but this—this is a new kind of proud. Like he’s seeing his brother as a peer, for the first time.
When the presentation is officially over Killian mingles a bit in the crowd and Liam debates going to speak with him. He wants to tell his brother about this new pride he’s feeling, but he’s not sure if he can find the words or if this is really the time or place. But then he sees Killian heading off through one of the council chamber’s side exits and thinks he might take the opportunity to catch Killian and have a few words in private, and so he goes to follow his brother out the door.
So does Princess Emma. Liam bites his lip to stop his smile when he sees her heading for the same exit through which Killian just disappeared. Because yes, he did just realise that he might need to start treating Killian as more of an equal but that doesn’t change the fact that he’ll always be a big brother and he can’t help wanting to witness Killian stammer and blush when he runs into the princess.
He slips through the door and follows Emma until she turns a corner, then hurries his pace a bit so as not to lose her.
“Well,” he hears her say as he approaches the corner. “Fancy meeting you here, Lieutenant.”
Liam halts just before the turn, waiting for Killian’s stammering reply. Instead he hears something that has his jaw dropping in astonishment. Killian’s voice, pitched lower than usual and with a flirtatious note in it that Liam has never, not even in his wildest dreams, imagined he might hear from his own little brother.
“What a remarkable coincidence,” Killian replies.
“Isn’t it just.”
“Whatever shall I do with you, princess, now I’ve discovered you here in this very dark corridor?” Killian growls.
“I’m sure you’ve got a few ideas.” Emma’s voice is breathless. “Brilliant man like you.”
“Oh I do love, I absolutely do. Though I confess they all require you to be wearing rather fewer clothes.”
“Those are my favourite ones,” Emma gasps, then Liam hears the unmistakable sound of kissing.
They’re kissing. His brother and the princess. They’re just around the damned corner bloody well making out and flirting and talking about sex.
Sex.
His brother.
And the princess.
The princess.
The king’s daughter.
Is talking about sex.
With his brother.
What
What
Whaaatttt
Liam’s jaw lolls and his throat works, his Adam’s apple bobbing furiously, but no sound comes out. He doesn’t know what noise he’d even make if he could, he certainly isn’t capable of forming any words. He sidles up to the edge of the wall and pokes his head around the corner, just far enough to get visual confirmation of what he still can’t believe he heard. And there it is. There they are, wrapped up in each other with her back pressed against the wall and their mouths fused together.
Liam was almost hoping that it had all been some insane mistake, that maybe there was another lieutenant waiting in the corridor for the princess and speaking with his brother’s voice. But no. That’s Killian, unmistakably him. It looks like him and sounds like him, everything is him except that this man—yes, man—is kissing and flirting and making some pretty damned blatant allusions to sex. With the princess. Sex that he—that they—ack
Argh
Ermmmbbgggggghhhhhh
Liam’s brain makes a noise like an old dial-up modem as he watches Killian’s mouth leave Emma’s to trail sucking kisses down the neck she arches back for him, watches as his brother’s hand slides up the bloody royal thigh and under the hem of her dress and between—no. No, he can’t. He can’t see that. He can’t think it. He. Just. Can’t.
“Fuck.” Emma gasps, rolling her hips against Killian’s hand. “Fuck, Killian.”
“That is definitely the aim here, love.”
“Oh, God,” Emma moans. “We can’t do this here.”
“Can’t we?”
“No, we can’t.”
No you bloody well can’t, Liam’s brain screams. Please, please, please stop doing this here!
Emma pushes Killian away and he takes a step back, giving her a smirk that is positively lewd as he slowly licks his fingers. She smirks back, completely unfazed, and saunters towards him with a swing in her hips, hooking her own fingers under the waistband of Killian’s uniform trousers. Trousers that Liam absolutely, positively refuses to notice are tented. Impressively tented. Like perhaps Killian is right to object to being called little brother.
WHYYYYYYYYY wails his brain.
“Why don’t you come back to my place, sailor, and ravish me properly,” she purrs, and Killian puts his hand on her arse—her arse—his brother’s hand is on the princess of their bloody realm’s arse—(it was someplace far worse a minute ago, but his brain shrivels a bit and warning klaxons begin to shrill in his head before he can think too much about that)—and Killian’s fingers are tracing the curve of the arse in question and curling around the princess’s hip as they head off towards her apartments, bodies moving together in the kind of perfect harmony that suggests that when they fuck it’s hawt.
Nonononononononononononononooooooooooooooo Liam’s brain is in full meltdown mode now, alarms shrilling and screens flashing error messages and he just. Cannot. Compute.
He was prepared, almost very nearly prepared, to acknowledge that Killian is a grown man now, one well on his way to an impressive career and who has earned the respect of his colleagues and his king. But this—when—how did his shy and nerdy little brother become smooth enough with women to pull a bloody princess?
Where is the blushing? The stammering? The tripping over his own feet?
Where???
-
The next day Liam visits Killian in the library again, finding him sitting quietly at a desk with his brow furrowed as he reads from a large, leather-bound book. His uniform is pristine and his hair tidy, and his reading glasses are slipping down his nose. Liam clears his throat and Killian looks up, his face creasing with a grin.
“Liam! I was hoping you’d drop by. I didn’t get a chance to talk to you after the presentation yesterday.”
“No. I, er. Um. I’m sorry.”
“It’s all right.” Killian waves his apology away. “I left a bit earlier than I was anticipating, actually. Something came up.”
Liam looks at him carefully to see if this is meant to be a joke, bitterly recalling how twenty-four hours ago it would have never even occurred to him to wonder whether Killian might be making a crude innuendo about his penis. Such a thing would have been as inconceivable as the idea of his brother even carrying on a conversation with Princess Emma, much less—
Killian’s smile begins to fade and Liam pulls himself together, claps his brother on the shoulder. “You did well yesterday,” he said. “I was proud of you.”
Killian flushes with pleasure. “Thank you, brother,” he says. “It means a lot to hear that from you.”
That blush is what does it. It’s so familiar, too familiar, and with everything Liam now knows about Killian he simply cannot reconcile these two versions of him, his easy-blushing brother and Princess Emma’s lover and—
“You’re sleeping with her.”
“I—what?”
“The princess. You. I saw—and her. Kissing, and—and—how long has this been bloody going on?”
“Ah.” Killian removes his glasses, folds them up, and places them in their case. He sets the case on the desk and stands, giving Liam a cool look that the elder Jones absolutely cannot meet. “I think perhaps we’d best discuss this someplace more private,” he says.
He does not blush.
Killian leads Liam out of the library and across the small, grassy quad that separates it from the royal living quarters. He nods to the guard at the entrance as they go inside and strides confidently through the maze of corridors to a door which he opens with a key that he selects from his own keychain.
“Emma’s visiting hospitals today,” he says. “She won’t be back until late. We can talk here.”
“This is—” Liam gulps. “This is the princess’s private apartments.”
“Yes.”
“To which you have a key.”
“I live here. Not officially, of course, for the sake of the optics, but for all intents and purposes they are my apartments too.”
“So then it’s not—not just—”
“Not just sex?” Killian smirks. “No. We’ve been together about three years and it’s serious. I plan to marry her.”
“But—you can’t marry a princess! You’re a—”
“A lowly lieutenant in her father’s navy? Aye. And I certainly couldn’t marry her in that capacity. But as a valued and trusted adviser on the Royal Council? That would be rather a different story.”
Liam feels comprehension begin to dawn. “That’s why you wanted to work on this project,” he says.
“That’s why I wanted to work on this project,” Killian confirms. “And of course, it gives us a chance to live together normally, without attracting attention. Just to be absolutely certain this is what we want.”
Liam collapses onto a sofa, utterly gobsmacked. “Why didn’t you ever tell me?” he whispers.
“Would you have listened?” Killian sits down next to him. “Would you have believed it? All you ever do is tease me and treat me like I’m still sixteen. How would you have reacted to the news that I was dating Emma if you hadn’t seen us together with your own eyes?”
Liam is silent. He’s ashamed of himself and for once he allows himself to fully feel that shame. Killian is right. He has treated his brother as a child, even though he clearly isn’t one anymore. Not just because of his relationship with the princess but because of his accomplishments in his career and the impressive future he has ahead of him, as a Royal Councillor and someday the Prince Consort.
Liam could not be prouder.
“You’re right,” he says after a long silence. “I wouldn’t have listened, and I wouldn’t have believed it. But I will now, both those things. Will you tell me the story? How you met Emma and how you fell in love? And—when you have time I’d love to see more about your project.” He clears his throat. “Actually see it, I mean, and do my best to understand.”
Killian smiles, wide and delighted. It’s the smile of the boy Liam solemnly promised to take care of all those years ago, and it’s the smile of the man that boy has become.
“I’d love to, brother,” he says.
thief/assassin au pt 4
ft. (the mention of) handcuffs and a river. also liel’s flip-floppy emotions. mildly suggestive.
(part 1, part 2, part 3, part 3.5)
Sirens drifted through the air, faint from distance. There were at least five blocks between them and Liel but she walked faster nonetheless, gait casual as she strolled down the chill city streets.
A cold wind skittered after her, slicing through her thin shirt; she’d been counting on a getaway car to provide warmth, so she was clad only in a pair of leggings and a top made for attraction and not practicality, her toes frozen inside the thin leather of her boots. Another gust of wind and she curved her shoulders inwards, tightening her grip around the hot chocolate cup in her hands. Warmth bled through the cheap cardboard and into her fingers, a mild protection against the temperature. It was the only thing keeping her going.
Well. That, and the promise of getting revenge on Johann’s worthless hide ten times over. Liel was thinking a lifetime subscription to some truly awful porn mailing lists, maybe a stint in a minimum security prison depending on how long it took for her to get back to her hotel. Half a million in diamonds, ripe for the taking, and she’d had to abandon them all. Idiot kid. She didn’t know what street corner Emory had picked him off of, but he could damn well put him back.
She stepped off the street and onto a bridge, blending with the horde of pedestrians making their way across. And there, propped up against the railing, her long black coat whipping in the wind, stood Celine.
Despite the cold and the bustle of people flowing past her she looked unbothered, eyes on the river’s banks, just one of the many citizens taking a break from her everyday life to admire the view.
The sight of her sent a confusing tangle of emotions rushing through Liel: fear, always and ever-present, because she hadn’t survived ten odd years as a criminal without a healthy dose of being able to recognize a predator when she saw one, and wanting, too, sharp and immediate as a knife to the gut. More than both of those though was the annoyance, a matchstick flare that promised to ignite.
Liel should walk away. She should go back to her hotel, drink a staggering amount of wine, and sink into the suite’s luxurious tub until the water washed away all the frustrations and disappointments of the afternoon. She should. But Liel had just had two weeks of planning go up in smoke thanks to a jumpy kid and an early guard patrol, and all that irritation was just begging for an outlet. Celine would do nicely.
She tossed her cup into a nearby trash can and wandered over, propping herself up on the railing, so close her arm brushed Celine’s sleeve. The river below was a chaotic swirl of dark water, shiny bits of aluminum and old coffee cups caught tumbling in its hold. On its banks the sidewalks teemed with life, awash with shoppers catching up on last minute holiday gifts.
“I was going to complain about the cold, but I find I’m plenty warm just by being around you.”
Celine didn’t so much as glance at her, her eyes fixed on one of the cafes lining the waterway. Liel squinted, trying to make out what she was looking at, but saw nothing besides some red striped umbrellas and a few customers enjoying a meal in the freezing cold. Masochists.
“Because you’re from hell,” Liel elaborated. “Like a demon. Hellfire. It’s very amusing.”
A faint smirk touched Celine’s lips, but that was the extent of her reaction. No teasing, no clever remarks. Not even an acknowledgement that the last time they’d seen each other Celine had had her hands around Liel’s neck, before they’d shifted to other, less mentionable places.
The annoyance flared brighter the longer she ignored her. Liel wanted to draw a reaction, to claw some control from her perfect grip. Crack it, like she had the night of the party, Celine’s mouth on hers, gasping and half-breathless, teeth and tongue and sweet words that had spilled like a river from her lips.
Liel smiled up at her, batting her eyelashes in the way that normally made people fall all over themselves to give her what she wanted.
“What’s a girl have to do to get some attention around here?”
“Try coming back when I’m not working.”
Okay, see, that was just rude. Liel had been working every time they’d crossed paths, but that hadn’t stopped Celine from fucking her over or just fucking her, period. It was called a double standard, and Liel had no intention of letting it get in her way.
“Ooh, are you on a job?” She slid closer, pressing their sides flush together, and made a production of following Celine’s gaze back to the cafe. It didn’t take long for her to hone in on the trio sitting off to one side, their clothes worth far more than the cafe’s old facade warranted. The woman on the left was definitely packing a gun.
“A hundred dollars says it’s the one in pink.” A shot in the dark, but it landed, Celine’s expression going even more carefully still. Liel pressed the advantage. “I could make some phone calls. I’m sure the police would be very interested in knowing someone hired an assassin to go after Miss Dior and Co. over there.”
“And I could snap your neck right now and throw your body over the edge.” Celine’s voice was as cool and dangerous as ice. “But you wouldn’t make me do that, would you pet?”
The fear came back with a vengeance, her annoyance snuffed out beneath the douse of ice water sliding down her spine. It might have been a mistake antagonizing the girl who killed people for a living. A small, small mistake.
“That does sound unpleasant,” Liel said as lightly as she could manage. “My neck is much prettier when it’s in one piece. Tell you what, I’ll just come back when you’re not working.”
Celine’s hand lashed out, gloved fingers wrapping around Liel’s wrist as she moved to step away.
“Oh no,” she said softly. “You said you wanted attention.”
She was watching Liel now, cafe abandoned for more interesting prey. Her eyes slid over Liel’s body, noting the lack of a coat, the goosebumps littering the bare skin of her arms. Despite the chill Liel felt herself heat up, all too aware that the last time Celine had seen her it had been without a stitch of clothing. From the smug slant of her mouth she remembered it, too.
“Poor thing. You’re shivering.” She tugged Liel in front of her, her head against her shoulder. Celine was unfairly warm despite the weather, warmth bleeding from her in far more pleasant ways than the hot chocolate had managed. Damage control, Liel reassured herself as she snuggled closer, allowing herself to melt into the heat. She had to protect her pretty neck, after all.
“And here I thought we were getting along so much better,” Celine murmured. Her breath ghosted against Liel’s ear, lips brushing skin with every word. “Threats don’t suit you.”
“Everything suits me,” Liel informed the sky because, honestly, she didn’t have much more to lose. It stared back, a pale, dispassionate gray that put her in mind of a blade. “Also, I’m angry at you.”
“Well, we can’t have that, can we?” Celine’s voice echoed in her ear as she wrapped an arm around Liel’s middle, drawing her ever closer. “Why so upset, sweetling? I thought our evening together went very well.”
“You tied me to a bed.” Liel’s legs struggled to hold up beneath the assault of Celine’s pet names, the scent of her rose perfume curling around her, light as a kiss.
“I did,” Celine agreed. “But I seem to recall that you begged me to do it. Quite prettily, too.”
Liel flushed all the way down, cheeks burning red. Memories stirred, flickers of Celine’s mouth on her neck, between her legs, biting at the skin of her thighs. She’d worn the bruises she left for a week, and the memory of them a hell of a lot longer.
“You didn’t untie me,” she said, fighting to keep her voice steady. One of the hotel staff had found her and boy had that been a particularly humiliating conversation to have. She’d been lucky the maid had proven sympathetic to her tale of a prank gone wrong. Luckier still that Celine hadn’t been cruel enough to call the police.
She could sense Celine’s smirk where it rested against the side of her head. “Consider it your punishment.”
“For what?”
“You stole a drive from me when we first met.”
“That was three months ago!”
A few heads turned in their direction at Liel’s cry, glancing away when they saw the two of them entwined. Liel made an effort to squirm out of Celine’s grip, swearing at the lack of give. Pettiness was her deal. It looked way cuter on her.
With an exasperated noise Celine crowded her forward against the rail, bending Liel over until Celine’s chin rested on the top of her head, her body pinned between metal and flesh with no easy method of escape.
“Stay still,” Celine chided. Her grip tightened until Liel subsided, slumping back against her. “That job cost me a lot of money, to say nothing of what it did to my reputation. You’re lucky all I did was tie you up.”
And threaten to kill her, and actually try to kill her. The list went on.
 “Can’t imagine how great your reputation is going to be if you get yourself caught throwing me off a bridge,” Liel muttered.
“Believe me, there are far more interesting things I would rather to do to you.”
That sounded promising. Interesting typically required alive, which was a step up from a watery grave. Liel wriggled even further back, pressing herself into Celine until any distance between them was eaten up.
“Elaborate on that?” she asked, sweet as she could manage.
Across the river Celine’s target stood. Her pink dress, terribly impractical for the weather, swirled around her legs as the wind blew again, a bright streak against the dull pavement. At the motion Celine straightened, stepping away from Liel as quickly as she’d grabbed her.
The frigid rush of air that crept into the space she left set Liel trembling all over again, colder now that she’d found protection and lost it.
“Business calls,” Celine said, composed once more. God Liel hated her. “You have my room key?”
And her bracelet, and half her credit cards. Liel hadn’t taken her gun, though, so honestly she should be heralded as a paragon of self-restraint. She didn’t bring that point up though.
“I’m still cold.” Scared and pissed off, too, but she doubted she would care about that.
Celine’s mouth twisted in amused exasperation, and then she stripped out of her coat, wrapping the garment around Liel’s shoulders like a shawl. The fabric was warm, the scent of her perfume clinging to the silky lining.
“Be a good girl and wait for me in my room.” She leaned forward, pressing a kiss to Liel’s cheek. Her lipstick left behind a mark. “I’ll bring my handcuffs.”
“What if I say no?”
Celine paused in the middle of turning away, an eyebrow raising in mock surprise. “I thought you wanted me to elaborate. Although if you prefer the river, I will have to ask for my key back.”
When Liel made no move to hand it over she smiled, teeth gleaming sharp in the sunlight. “It’s the Royal Suite. Don’t bother with clothes.”
Part: 1 I 2 I 3 I 4 I 5 I 6 I 7 I 8 I 9 I 10 I 11 I 12 I 13  I 14 I 15 I 16 I Final
**
Junmyeon’s solution was almost too good to be true. Granted, you didn’t know exactly how well it would work. This entire trip could be pointless, but at least you would get to see them. When Junmyeon had told you about his idea, you’d burst into sobs. Never had it occurred to you that you might be able to hug your family again.
You were nearing tears again the closer the vehicle got to the old apartment building you used to call home.
The idea was for you to talk to Taegun and Hyunmin personally and let them know that Junmyeon’s men were there to protect them. The prejudices they held against him would be hard to fight through, but you believed you could do it, especially when they saw that you were okay with their own eyes.
For the first time, you saw Junmyeon get behind the wheel. He thought it best if it was just the two of you who went, although he would stay behind in the car to give you some privacy with your family. He stopped the car in front of the building, pulling into a street parking spot.
“I’ll be down here,” he sighed as he turned to look at you. “Do you have your cell phone just in case?”
You nodded. “Yeah. I’ll try not to be too long.”
“Take your time.”
With one last smile, you pushed open the door and went inside, taking the elevator to that familiar floor. After knocking on the apartment door - being keyless since you hadn’t been able to take them with you when you left - you waited, trying to remain calm and stoic. The door squeaked open, only letting a few centimeters be exposed.
“Who is it?”
You swallowed back tears. “It’s me, Mom. It’s (y/n).”
The door swung open the rest of the way and Hyunmin threw her arms around you and pulled you back into the apartment.
“(y/n)!”
Another pair of arms joined the reunion. Taegun sobbed in your ear, his hand gripping your shirt with such force you thought he might rip the fabric. Hyunmin pulled away just a bit and took your face in her hands.
“What are you doing here?”
You leaned into her touch, smiling at her. “Junmyeon brought me so I could make sure you were okay.”
Taegun scoffed at the mention of your fiancé and stomped over to the kitchen table, scraping the chair against the tile and sitting down.
Following quietly, you sat adjacent from him, grabbing his hand in yours. “Papa, it wasn’t Junmyeon who did this.” That just made him laugh humorlessly. Hyunmin sat on your other side, wrapping her fingers around your forearm. “I know he didn’t. His men that have been following you have been trying to protect you. Both of you. It was Junko’s men who found you and attacked you.”
Hyunmin gasped and Taegun stiffened as soon as you said Junko’s name.
You sighed. “You know who that is, don’t you?”
Taegun nodded. “His father and yours were close. He was also your father’s biggest client. Junko was the one you were originally promised to.”
“So I’ve been told,” you said bitterly. “I’ve met him. And he threatened to harm you if I didn’t break it off with Junmyeon and go to him. I told him no. With the… contract I can’t just break it off like a normal engagement. I have to keep that obligation.” You shifted uncomfortably in your seat, avoiding their eyes for the moment. “Even so, I don’t mind where I’m at and I woulnd’t want to go to Junko anyway.”
Turning to Hyunmin, you met her gaze. She looked at you with studying eyes, trying to read something in your face.
“You have to let Junmyeon protect you,” you urged, getting back on track. “He promised me he would make sure this didn’t happen again and I trust him. I know you think it would be better for them to just stay away, but who knows how many times others have come after you just to be scared off by Junmyeon’s men?”
Five times, actually. According to the reports he let you read last night, anyway.
“How has he been treating you?” Hyunmin asked hesitantly.
“With nothing but respect,” you answered truthfully. “We’ve butted heads a few times, but things have gotten better. I don’t mind being there, actually.” You bit your tongue before you could admit that you liked being there, given the circumstances. While you missed your family every day, considering what could have been your future, you counted yourself lucky. Very lucky, indeed. “He’s promised to take me traveling like I’ve always wanted to do. I like talking to him, when he’s around.”
“You seem–” Hyunmin bit her bottom lip, furrowing her eyebrows. “You seem happy.”
You cleared your throat and scratched the back of your head nervously. “Well, I mean, I’m not unhappy there. I’ve kind of made friends with the guys that take turns watching over me.”
“They are not your friends!” Taegun snapped, pounding his fist against the table, causing the trinkets in the center to rattle. “They are killers and criminals. Do not let them fool you into thinking they are normal people. They may be there to protect you from Junko, but you should never let your guard down!”
“You don’t even know them!” you yelled back, jumping to your feet in the process. “I know what they do! I know what they are, but they are still people! They’re not animals that just snarl and bite anything that looks in their direction! They laugh, they make stupid jokes, and they watch out for each other. Sometimes they seem more like a family than I’ve ever had.”
Taegun’s eyes widened and Hyunmin went still.
You, too, were horrified at what you had just said. You’d never once complained about your circumstances. You loved your adoptive family. But your siblings were never around anymore nor did they care too much to spend time with you as you all had gotten older. Hyunmin kept you close, but Taegun - well after you’d hit puberty, he stopped taking you out for treats and spending time with you one-on-one. The last time you went out on a family vacation with everyone together, you’d barely entered high school.
“I’m sorry,” you sighed. The hurt in their eyes made you want to cover up you slip. “I don’t know where that came from. I know you’ve only ever tried your best to make me feel like one of your own. I didn’t mean that.”
“We know, sweetheart,” Hyunmin hummed. “You were just upset. But, (y/n), I can’t help but notice….” She gently pulled your chin to have you looking at her. “Honey, there’s something in your eyes I’ve never seen before. Are you – well, are you in love him?”
You jerked back. “What? No! I still barely know him.”
“Yes, but you’ve always been one to have your head in the clouds. You never gave any boys at school the time of day because they were too ordinary, too simple for you.”
“I didn’t talk to any of them because they were too busy chasing after girls like Minah,” you corrected her. “They never wanted me.” Only in movies did the girls like you get any sort of attention from boys.
“You forget that I would get together with several other mothers,” Hyunmin patted your head. Perhaps it was because she was you mother, but you didn’t quite like it when she did that, making you feel like a child again. Not like when Junmyeon did it. “A few of the boys had a small crush on you, but you never looked up from your books.”
“I’ve had boyfriends before, Mom,” you argued. Why was this even a conversation you were having right now? “And none of them were members of an organized crime ring, if I recall.”
“But just now... it just seems, you are protective of him.”
“That’s just because he’s been nice to me even though he could just ignore me or lock me in my room,” you insisted.
You’d tried so hard not to go down that road. Allowed yourself to be a little attracted? Sure. Did you flirt with him? Well, you weren’t exactly good at batting you eyelashes, but you would do things to make him smile because watching him light up as the corners of his eyes crinkled gave you a small bit of warmth inside.
But in love with Junmyeon? Not possible. Hyunmin was right, your head usually wasn’t firmly planted on the ground, but you weren’t completely unrealistic. You refused to be the one to fold first. You would not fall in love with Junmyeon. Because, no matter how many flattering words or sultry eyes he threw your way, you knew, deep down, he would never actually fall in love with you. He was too hardened by the years of being in this business. Besides, you weren’t that special to make him turn one-eighty like that.
“Junmyeon and I get along because you two signed a contract for me to marry him so he can have access to the files when the time comes. We came to the conclusion that getting along and not fighting each other is the best way to get through this. It’ll make life easier in the long run. That is it. End of story.” Maybe if you said it out loud enough times, it would actually be true. On your part, at least.
Hyunmin’s face gave off the impression that she didn’t believe you, but Taegun seemed satisfied.
“Good,” Taegun grunted. “You deserved better. Perhaps, in a few years, he’ll let you go and you can marry someone much more suited for you.”
“Yeah, maybe,” I shrugged. “We could always hope.”
**
Junmyeon turned off the volume, unable to keep listening.
Kyungsoo had inserted a bug into your phone along with the GPS tracker. It was all for your safety, but Junmyeon couldn’t resist turning on the Bluetooth and listening in on what you were telling your adoptive parents. You seemed to be able to convince them that he really was trying to protect them, but they still hated him.
Things like this didn’t bother Junmyeon in the past. He didn’t care if insignificant people – or even those higher up than him – liked him or not. However, hearing the venom in Taegun’s voice stung a bit. But that was nothing compared to listening to you insist that you felt nothing for him.
He thought the two of you were making progress. You hugged him when he did things for you - like the phone and freedom to leave the apartment - and gave him smiles willingly now. You didn’t fight to the point of sore throats with acidic words tossed carelessly around. But while peace had come around the penthouse, you still didn’t feel strongly towards him. You simply wanted to “get along” in order to make cohabitation more bearable.
Junmyeon banged a fist against the steering wheel, your words agreeing with Taegun that you could leave him in the future and be with someone else once Junmyeon got what he wanted – what he’d originally went into this agreement for – haunted him.
None of this was ever about money. The original plan – before he found out about you – was to just give that damn CEO a warning and then give him some time to come up with a different way to pay off the debt. Junmyeon didn’t care; there were others who owed him more. But then Jung mentioned that he knew where the Closer’s daughter was. That caught his attention. It was the leg up Junmyeon needed on Junko. Everyone in the underworld had lost track of you years ago, thinking you were still in the States. With a little research from Baekhyun, they had you.
But Junmyeon’s expectation was of a spoiled, bratty girl who only cared about the materialistic joys in life. Going from one corporate lawyer to another as a father that just seemed the natural way your personality would go. Then he started following you from work and other places you visited, trying to figure out how to get to you and to the files before they came to the marriage agreement in the negotiations.
Little did you know that originally footnote that was Taegun’s stipulation.
Junmyeon simply wanted to keep you in his penthouse until your birthday to make sure you didn’t disappear again. After that, he would take you to New York once the sealed will revealed the name of the bank, have you retrieve the files, and then let you go your own way. But Taegun knew that was putting a target on your back, a side effect that Junmyeon didn’t really care about. It didn’t affect him and it was obvious that he wasn’t giving an afterthought to your wellbeing. So, Taegun had insisted in giving you the best protection possible. Junmyeon was resistant at first, trying any other method to come to an agreement, but Taegun held his ground. And now here he was, acting like his arm had been twisted into the final contract. His wife didn’t even know the truth. Just so he could remain the good guy in this situation.
Leaning forward, Junmyeon ran his hands through his hair, letting out a long breath as he tried to control his temper.
Would he ever let you go?
Yes.
Once he knew you were safe, he’d let you leave. Once he’d dismantled Junko’s empire and destroyed that family’s power, you’d be safe. It just might kill him, but if you wished to go, he’d put you on the plane himself.
A knock on the passenger window brought him back to the present, making his hand for the gun in the middle console. It was just you, waiting patiently outside for him to unlock the car. Relieved, he let go of the gun, thankful that he never actually pulled it out, and unlocked the door for you.
“Are you okay?” you asked as soon as you sat down. A harsh line formed just above your nose, conveying your concern.
He gave you a small smile, fascinated how easily you could read him and how you were always quick to try and comfort him if something was wrong. Could he really believe what you had said upstairs?
“Perfectly fine,” he lied. The frown on your mouth said you didn’t completely believe him, but you didn’t push.
“Okay.” You put on your seatbelt without further inquiry.
Junmyeon almost laughed, remembering you yelling at him to do the same before coming here.
“They’re going to cooperate now,” you told him, “just so you know. They understand that you’re trying to protect them and that Junko is the one threatening them. They also agreed to call me if they think anything suspicious is going on.”
Starting the car, Junmyeon pulled out into the street. “Good. Did you talk about anything else?”
For a moment you didn’t answer. You licked your lips and sucked them in. Then you shrugged. “We just caught up. Taegun found a better job, pays more and the CEO supposedly isn’t a giant jerk. I let them know that I wasn’t being held in a dark dungeon and that I was being well taken care of. They, um….” you swallowed.
Were you about to tell him about the conversation? Would you really bring that up?
“They’re still concerned, but they’re just being parents. I promised to keep them updated. They do want to have dinner for my birthday. Before we, you know, go.”
Junmyeon said nothing, simply nodding to the arrangement.
Of course he had no problem going to dinner, although Chanyeol would be a nightmare getting the security taken care of for it. You looked at him out of the corner of your eye, almost expecting something. When you didn’t get any reply, you sighed and stared out the window, watching the people and the street lights go by.
Feeling a bit brave and with his hand itching to touch you again, Junmyeon reached out with his right hand and grasped your left one that was resting on your leg. You jumped at the sudden contact but didn’t pull away, letting him continue to hold on.
Why he was doing this, he wasn’t sure. Was it to prove something to himself? To you?
As far as he knew, you didn’t have feelings for him. So, then, why weren’t you pulling away?
His thumb rubbed your knuckles absentmindedly and, he was sure, if anyone were able to look in on them through the tinted, bulletproof glass, they would seem like any other couple just out and about on an ordinary Saturday. But they never would be. No matter how much Junmyeon wanted it.
**
Neither of you spoke as Junmyeon drove home. You were thankful for the silence so you could think, but with Junmyeon’s hand in yours, having his skin on yours, giving off its warmth and comfort, hardly any thoughts were connecting.
Hyunmin’s comment plagued your mind. You fiercely denied it, but the repudiation came too easily, like a shield. Your heart was pumping at a hundred miles an hour almost bringing a pain to your chest.
Focusing on breathing, you leaned your head against the cold glass of the window, frustrated as your breath fogged up the glass. This was your body’s reaction to a simple handhold. The pounding in your ears increased as different images danced across your closed eyelids.
They were scenarios that you’d read over and over again, but never had experienced. Now, you let your imagination take over, heat rising to your face as you wondered about life with Junmyeon.
You’re standing in the kitchen, getting dinner put together, a smile creeping up on your face as you hear the door open. A pair of arms snake around your waist while another pair of lips caress your neck, whispering hello just for you to hear. You ask him how his day was and he just shrugs. You eat dinner together, laughing and smiling. He says something that makes you blush. Once the dishes are clean, he leads you back to your shared bedroom and shows you how much he cares. Afterwards you just lie there, like that first night, your head resting on his chest until you both drifted off to sleep.
Junmyeon slammed on the breaks, pulling you out of the fantasy. The seat belt tightened on que, digging into your neck as it kept you from flying forward. The car in front of you had stopped suddenly, although there was no one else present on the street. Your hand was suddenly empty as Junmyeon threw the car in reverse and turned around, sending smoke in the air as the tires squealed against the asphalt. The driver of the vehicle stepped out and simply stared after you. He was unmoving as you watched him in the passenger’s side mirror. Two other vehicles appeared out the sides streets and stopped by the first car, but nothing else.
“Who was that?” you gasped as you turned around to try and get a better look at the man or the cars.
“Sit down!” Junmyeon growled, pushing down on your shoulder with force.
You did as you were told, shocked. It’d been a while since he’d snapped at you like that. You were practically cowering in your seat, clutching the belt in your fists as you stared out the window.
Junmyeon let out a hefty sigh. “I’m sorry.”
You just nodded, not looking back at him.
No one spoke again as he pulled into the garage and parked the obnoxious sports car at the end of his long line of vehicles. You followed him closely into the penthouse and then just stood on the outset of the entrance to the living room. Chen jumped up when he saw you enter, taking in your posture, arms around yourself to make yourself as small as possible.
“What happened?” he asked, looking between you and Junmyeon.
“Someone tried to pull a snatch and grab,” Junmyeon huffed. Chanyeol walked in from the kitchen holding a glass of water with Kyungsoo behind him. “D.O., I need you to access the black box in the Lexus and see if you can read the plate number on the car. Or better yet, identify the man who got out. I’d bet everything that it was one of Junko’s men.”
Kyungsoo nodded and left the penthouse. Chen walked up to you and looped an arm around your back, ushering you towards the kitchen.
“Chen,” Junmyeon hissed, his voice giving off some kind of warning.
The usual peppy informant threw a nasty look in his leader’s direction. Junmyeon’s face was a mixture of shock and irritation. Chen didn’t care though as he guided you out the tension filled room. He sat you down at the island and poured way too much red wine into a glass meant for something non-alcoholic.
“Drink up,” he ordered. “It’ll help.”
Frowning, you took several sips, cringing at the sour, dry taste. “You know, alcohol doesn’t fix everything.”
Chen smirked. “Yeah, yeah. I know you’re a regular saint, but indulge me.”
You rolled your eyes, continuing to slowly down the wine, not wanting to get tipsy on top of your already shaky state.
Chanyeol crept into the kitchen, barely sticking his head in. “Um, Jo- Chen. Junmyeon wants to see you in his office.”
Shaking his head, Chen sighed. “Fine. Call Yixing and tell him to get here fast and make sure that (y/n)’s okay.”
Chanyeol nodded, his red hair flopping against the movement. Then you were left alone.
**
Junmyeon was eerily calm as he stood in his office, his hands behind his back. The lights were dimmed and no other sound echoed off the walls except for Jongdae’s footsteps as he got closer. The knock signaled his arrival and Junmyeon called out for him to enter.
“You wanted to see me.” It came out straight, none of his usual sarcasm or charm present.
Leaning against his desk, Junmyeon crossed his arms. “You know the rules, Jongdae.”
“Yeah, I do,” he scoffed. The vanguard was never one to sugarcoat things or hide his actual feelings, so this attitude was expected. “But I chose to ignore them because you were too busy spouting out orders to notice that your fiancé was shivering worse than a Chihuahua behind you.”
Junmyeon rolled his eyes. “Nothing actually happened. I got us out of there before any real danger occurred.”
Jongdae’s hands were in shaking fists, his jaw set. “To you! To you, nothing happened. But (y/n) didn’t grow up in this! I thought after spending time with her, you’d grown to be more sympathetic to her. In fact, I thought that you actually–”
“No!” Junmyeon snapped. He didn’t want it said out loud. After the indirect rejection he just endured, he didn’t want it acknowledged that he’d let himself go down that road. Even holding your hand in the car had been a mistake, he just wanted to see if it had any effect on you. Apparently, it hadn’t.
And now they tried to go after you directly this time. They saw the two of you together. Junmyeon had created the weakness that he’d sworn he would never have. He couldn’t let this go any further. He needed to stay the disconnected mafia leader that he was.
“Do not mistake anything that I am doing,” he growled. “Everything I do is to get us closer to our end goal, to get us out on top. That is it.”
Jongdae’ face said that he didn’t believe a word of it, but then again, that was his job. “Then why be so upset that I simply helped her? Huh? Why care if she seemed so happy dancing with Yixing? Or that Kyungsoo makes her meals? Or that Jongin lets her sleep on his lap on the couch? Kind of pointless, don’t you think?”
The images of each scenario he just described burned in Junmyeon’s mind, fueling his anger. It took all the discipline he had not to grab the closest object off his desk and throw it across the room. That would be giving in, admitting that it was true.
“I have my reasons,” he growled. “One of them being that I don’t need rumors going around about my men getting too close to my fiancé. How do you think that would look to the other leaders?”
Shaking his head, Jongdae said in a low voice, “You’re despicable. I mean, none of us are saints. We injure, we steal, we blackmail, but ultimately, it’s all with people who chose this life. But you’re just toying with her, using her like a pawn just to get to Junko. She was so close to being free and you caged her up.”
“I didn’t want to marry her in the first place. It was Taegun who made the condition.”
Jongdae’s eyes widened in surprise at the new development. Junmyeon hadn’t told anyone but Minseok, who was there during the signing as a witness, about how exactly the negotiations went down.
“You really think I wanted this?” he threw at Jongdae. “Settling down was never in the plan. I never wanted a chink in my armor. That’s all a wife is: a weakness that others can exploit. Negotiations not going well? Threaten the wife. Want a new piece of territory without having to fight for it? Kidnap the wife and hold her hostage. Affections like that just make you vulnerable. That’s why I never brought back the same girl twice. Show an attachment and your enemies will exploit it with all they’ve got. (Y/n) is a means to an end. If that means I have to be nice to get those files, then I’ll play nice. That is it.”
Jongdae nodded. There was still a defiance in his eyes, but the fight was gone. “Was there anything else you needed?”
“No,” Junmyeon replied, satisfied. “You’re dismissed.”
With slumped shoulders, Jongdae shuffled over to the door and opened it, but froze when the hallway was revealed.
It was you standing there, leaning with your back against the wall, your arms folded in front of you. A tear was leaving a watery trail down your cheek as you stared down at the floor. It didn’t take a genius to conclude that you’d heard everything.
Chanyeol came running down the hall, huffing. Afraid of being reprimanded, he grabbed your upper arm and gently tugged you away, apologizing profusely for not keeping you away. You didn’t fight against Chanyeol’s grip, simply meeting Junmyeon’s eye before walking away.
(Un)Broken - part 1
Author’s note: Hey guys! I’m finally back with the next story in my college AU. I recommend at least reading one of its predecessors, Dazed, before this story. Otherwise you might be confused.
Fandom: Absolutely not a Surprise! It’s Sanders Sides!
Warnings (for this part): doctor visit, talk of injuries (including a head injury and broken arm), medication mention, headaches
Word count: 1254
...
March, 2018
“So, Logan, how have your headaches been?”
Logan glanced around the room, with its pale gray walls and aquatic animal themed art. He was sitting on the examination table across from the doctor, tapping his fingers against his leg. He hated medical appointments, but they had been necessarily frequent as of late. It had only been a few weeks since a regrettable and unfortunately infamous incident in which he took a fall down one of the staircases at his college campus. He had come away from it with a concussion, a broken arm, and several bruised ribs.
“About the same,” he admitted after a moment.
“Do you have one now?”
“I do.”
“How would you rate it on a scale from one to ten, one being hardly any pain, and ten being the worst pain imaginable?”
Logan considered. “…Three,” he said. “Four, perhaps.”
The doctor frowned. “Only a four? You’re wearing a baseball cap indoors.”
“My headaches are accompanied by light sensitivity, as you know. This helps to avoid that.”
The doctor glanced up at the lights, which had already been dimmed. Logan set his jaw, disliking the way the doctor had chosen to convey his point.
“I rated the pain at a four because that is what I consider it. You stated that a ten is “the worst pain imaginable”. That is quite a lot of pain. My headache is far from that.”
The doctor nodded, typing something in the computer. “Is the medication I prescribed helping?”
“It’s hard to say just yet, but I believe so.”
He nodded again, typing something else. “Would you like to increase the dose? We can add another ten milligrams if you’d like.”
“I would rather not. I don’t want to become dependent.”
“I respect that.” He turned to face Logan fully, clasping his hands together. He regarded his patient seriously. ‘Although, Mr. Foley, I have to ask—have you considered that these migraines may not be temporary?”
Logan frowned. He had; of course, he had. How could the thought have not occurred to him? He simply had not wanted to consider it as a serious possibility. That denial—he supposed there was no other word for it but denial—seemed to be being put to an end.
“Is there nothing else you can do for me?” he finally asked, his voice slow and careful.
“Head injuries are tricky. There’s a limit to what we can do. It might have helped, had you sought medical attention sooner, but… we can’t change that now.”
Logan gritted his teeth, looking away.
“I’m not trying to criticize. I don’t see the point, especially when it is about something we cannot change.”
Whether criticism was worthwhile here or not, the physician was correct. The delay in Logan’s treatment had greatly affected his recovery, and it was all his own fault. He never should have refused to see a doctor, and he shouldn’t have lied to his friends about hitting his head in the first place. He knew that he had only made things worse for himself, and that he had terrified his friends in the process. Logan could argue that he hadn’t been himself at the time, that he hadn’t been thinking clearly, and while that had probably contributed to his poor decision-making at the time, the inflexible stubbornness of his actions had been all Logan.
“What we can control is how you deal with these headaches.”
“Hm.”
“Should your migraines prove to be a chronic condition, we can work together to figure out a balance of lifestyle changes and medication that works for you to properly manage them. Things like a consistent, healthy sleep schedule, taking frequent breaks from difficult task, and other methods of avoiding triggers and minimizing the duration of your headaches may really help you.”
Logan sighed, looking down at his hands where they sat in his lap. One was partially hidden by the bulky blue cast encasing his right forearm. The watch he usually wore on that wrist was now on his left.
“Would it be acceptable to put this discussion off until our next appointment?” he asked even though he knew that there was still plenty of time left in the appointment slot. “I would prefer to wait and see if there is any more improvement by then.”
The doctor regarded him for a moment before nodding. “In that case, let’s move on. What about your ribs? Are they still giving you trouble?”
“No, they seem much improved. The bruises faded approximately a week ago, and while I do still notice some tenderness, it is only when I have inadvertently bumped or applied pressure to them.”
“So, they are healing well?” the doctor clarified.
“Yes.”
“Excellent. As for your arm, I still believe that we should wait another week to remove the cast. At that point you will receive a removable splint.” He glanced at the clock above Logan’s head. “We can talk more about that when the time comes.”
“Is that all, then?”
“If you have nothing else to discuss.”
Logan affirmed that he had nothing else to say, gathered his phone, water bottle, and jacket, and left the office.
As he drove home, Logan couldn’t help but think about what the doctor had said. He really didn’t like to think about the fact that while his arm and ribs would heal, he might never be rid of these headaches.
To think that a split-second—a broken backpack clasp, a hurried step, a bit of rainwater on a staircase—could cause such a permanent change in his life… it was awful. The thought that he might have what amounted to permanent brain damage, as someone who valued his mind above all else, was rather terrifying.
What if I’m never as smart as I was? he couldn’t help but think. Would I even know?
Logan squeezed the steering wheel tightly with his left hand and kept driving, determined to shift his focus to the task at hand. It wouldn’t do to drive distracted. He couldn’t afford to be in a traffic accident, could he? Not on top of everything else.
Logan huffed bitterly.
He supposed he should count himself lucky. His head injury really hadn’t been that bad, not compared to what it could have been. His fractured arm would be out of a cast very soon, and his ribs had been only bruised. He should be grateful that he hadn’t been hurt worse, and that his friends had cared enough to try to force him to the hospital, although it hadn’t been until that forgotten night in the park that they had succeeded.
Logan pulled into a space in front of his apartment building and turned off the engine. He sat there for a moment in silence before adjusting his sunglasses and opening the door. He walked quickly inside, wanting to be in the bright sunlight as briefly as possible.
He shut himself in the apartment and put away his school materials. His appointment had been scheduled close to when his classes had ended that day, so he hadn’t gotten the chance to come home beforehand. Now, he took off his shoes and hat and lay down on the couch, covering his eyes with his arm. He and his friends were meeting that evening, as they often did, but Logan had time for a nap first. It might help to assuage his headache pain, he reasoned. That way he at least had a chance at enjoying himself that afternoon. Time would tell.
On the Verge of a Heartbreak - Chapter 32
So, this is the final chapter of the main story. I may come back and write a couple short things, and I do have an epilogue already planned, but this is the end for our boys. I really do wanna thank anyone who’s been interested in this fic at any point, it’s been something I’ve wanted to write for so long and I’m so freaking happy that other people were as invested as I was <3
AU: Human, School Pairing: Moxiety Words: 1670 Warnings: Nothing I can think of. Please let me know if there is anything <3
Summary: Patton packs up his things and moves out with Virgil’s family.
Virgil leant against the doorframe as he watched Patton pack the last of his things into the last of the boxes that had been laying all around the room. It was strange to be here again, and he didn’t exactly feel safe, but he couldn’t let Patton come here alone.
From the moment they’d woken up, both of the boys had been ushered across the road by Virgil’s parents. They stood in silence and listened as the adults of both families talked and argued at the front door. Liliana was vehemently standing by her decision to allow Patton to come along with them, while his mother was trying to find a way to keep her son nearby. It was obvious from the start that she had no true arguments that held up well and she eventually folded.
The Mortensons had then carried extra boxes up into his bedroom and left the two alone to pack up Patton’s belongings. They were given a few hours, so Patton could take his time with packing. They’d also been given that time in case they needed to suddenly get out of the house because of any foul behaviour.
Thankfully, the whole time they’d been in his room, Patton’s brother remained in his own bedroom, utterly silent. It was completely void of sound, no semblance of life inside the room, but they knew he was in there. It made Virgil relax the tiniest amount, but he was still on guard in case Roman decided to show his face.
The emo moved out of the way as his boyfriend silently grabbed the last box and slowly made his way out and down the stairs. Virgil decided to stay up in the room, as he heard Patton’s parents talking to him. He stepped inside the empty bedroom and really had a good look around.
Virgil had only been in here once and yet it still felt so strange.
The baby blue walls were blank, excluding the painted extra circles of darker blue. It was entirely un-Patton-like. Virgil was able to visualise all the drawings and posters and photos that had almost entirely engulfed the walls the last time he was here, as well as from that morning. Now the only things hiding the painted walls were the pieces of empty, blank furniture.
Virgil ran his hand down the doors of Patton’s wardrobe. The stickers he’d placed there still remained, the last sign that this was a room that belonged to the happy-go-lucky child. Virgil traced each one he could reach. He wondered when these had been put on the light wood, how long they’d stayed, if they’d ever been replaced, if any of these were put on by someone other than Patton. At one point, his feet began to slowly drift across the floor, trailing him across the room at a snail’s pace. This allowed for his feet to tangle slightly and his hand to instinctively grab onto the handle of the wardrobe door, causing it to swing open.
The plain white back stared Virgil in the face, with the daylight streaming in through the window shining off the empty metal bar at the top. He’d never seen inside the piece of furniture, but the emo could easily imagine all of Patton’s colourful clothes hanging up inside, creating a rainbow of bright and pastel colours. He could see his boyfriend standing where he was as he attempted to pick out his outfit for the day.
A squeaky yawn caught Virgil’s attention and he turned to the now-stripped bed. A gentle smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he watched the small dog stretch and curl back up, ready to nap once more. Virgil took a seat at the edge of the bare mattress and carefully petted the small animal. He knew Reilly was extremely important to Patton, even though he’d only met the tiny dog a few times when Patton had brought him outside. Virgil had listened to Patton whenever he’d rattle off all the great things about the dog; how soft he was, how friendly, how loving. The emo was really only able to see a couple of those things as the small dog seemed to think negatively of him, but he believed Patton, for the most part. Reilly was even one of the ways Patton’s parents attempted to keep him around, arguing that because Reilly was seen as “Patton’s Dog”, it wouldn’t be right to leave him alone. Virgil’s dad had quickly responded by casually saying they’d take the dog as well if he was so important to Patton. Virgil was only absently stroking the dog as he got lost in his thoughts, which meant he wasn’t ready for Reilly’s sharp yap that told him to stop petting.
The emo stood and backed away from the dog, “Okay, I’m stopping.” He quietly assured the dog, who only curled up again and began to nap once more. Virgil dragged his feet across the carpet, heading to stand in front of the window. He looked out towards his own house, or rather his old house. He ran his hand over the empty windowsill, mentally pointing out where each and every random decoration was last time he looked. It was going to be so strange, moving to a brand-new place, not seeing his usual view out the window anymore, not writing on his window to talk to his boyfriend and instead being able to just talk to him pretty much whenever he wanted.
Just as he was thinking about going to check on Patton, as Virgil realised he’d been gone for quite a while now, the soft voice called from out in the hallway, “Hey Virge? Is Reilly still in here?”
Virgil turned around just in time to see Patton coming around the doorframe and entering the room. He watched as the boy made his way across the floor and sat himself down on the mattress, sitting close to his dog. There was something that just looked so sad about the whole picture. Virgil moved to sit on the opposite side, wrapping an arm around his boyfriend, “It’s okay.” He whispered, rocking Patton softly in order to try and comfort him better.
“But why do I feel so sad?” Patton asked into the empty room to no one in particular, “I should be happy. I’m getting to live with you and I’m getting away from here.” He didn’t go into specifics, as he knew Roman was probably trying to listen in. “I should feel so happy, and I am excited… but I’m also just so sad…”
Virgil squeezed Patton for a brief moment, “It’s okay to feel sad, Pat. You’re leaving all you’ve ever known and your family, it makes sense. It won’t be easy, but you’ll get through it, we’ll get through it and be stronger because of it.”
Patton snuggled closer to Virgil, “I suppose…”
The young couple stayed in their embrace for a little while, neither really having the drive to get up and head downstairs. It was only once they heard Jason calling up to them that they finally moved. Patton bundled Reilly into his arms and led the way down the stairs. Virgil shut the bedroom door behind him and gave one last look towards Roman’s before following.
As soon as they touched the ground floor, Patton’s mother wrapped him in a tight hug. She said her goodbyes through her tears, while his father merely stood behind and waited for his turn to speak. Virgil slid past and went to stand outside with his own parents, so he could give the Ashworths their time alone.
“Where’s Patton?” His dad asked once he saw Virgil exiting the house alone.
“Just saying goodbye to his parents, I think…” The young man looked behind him in order to emphasise his point.
“Ah, right. Well, you two are still okay to be travelling in the car with Logan, right?”
Virgil had almost forgotten that his parents were going to have to take the moving van that was full of all their belongings, while he and Patton were having to go along with Logan in the family’s car. Virgil shrugged and shoved his hands into his pockets, “I guess. I don’t really care.”
Jason ruffled his son’s hair, causing the emo to flail a little in an attempt to get him to stop. There was a soft laugh from behind them as Patton was walking towards them, a slightly happier expression on his face.
“Everything is loaded into the van. Are we ready to go?” Logan called from the back of the van.
Everyone agreed, and they piled into their respective vehicles. Patton and Virgil sat in the back seats together, preferring to keep each other company like that, while Reilly sat on Patton’s lap. The Ashworths came to stand outside their home, watching and waiting to wave goodbye to their son and the other family. Roman still refused to show his face, however.
Patton watched, his heart aching as the car started and began to roll down the street. He waved to his parents until they were completely out of sight. He knew this was all for the best, his life would be better now he could be away from Roman and his influence and all of that, but that didn’t make it any less scary. His free hand was shaking slightly, the other was occupied in steadying the tiny dog in his lap.
All of a sudden, Virgil’s hand was slipping beneath Patton’s, their fingers interlocking loosely. The young man smiled and turned to his emo boyfriend, watching as he pretended to ignore Patton’s gaze and stare out the window at the moving scenery. Everything was going to get better, they would prove to Roman that it wasn’t a mistake, that both of them were going to make each other the happiest people in the world. With that comforting thought, Patton was finally able to relax a little more and enjoy the car ride.
Robert Week 2018 Day 3 (6th September) - Free Day
'person a accidentally falls into a pond/stream trying to reach something and person b is the bystander who bursts out laughing’ au
...
Robert is having a bad day. Scratch that, he’s having a fucking awful day. Trying to negotiate a divorce with your bitch ex-wife takes its toll on the body, Robert thinks, and on the mind too. He can’t believe he’d never noticed just how exhausting she was.
He loosens his tie as he storms away from the meeting room they’d been trying to negotiate in. It’d been her who’d stormed out, not wanting to give Robert what he deemed to be his fair share of their finances.
Sometimes he wishes he’d never married her in the first place.
It had seemed like such a good idea at the time. As do all of your plans, Robert thinks and chuckles quietly despite himself. She was rich, attractive, charming, just like him. She could give him everything he’d ever wanted in life.
Or so he thought.
Robert had never considered himself someone who’d been bothered about love, not really. He’d been in love, maybe, when he was young. All it did was cause him more pain. No. What he’d really wanted was power, money, influence. He’d wanted to be somebody, have people fear and respect him in equal measure.
Or so he’d thought.
Even the faceless nobodies he’d found, men and women alike, to warm his bed when he was away from Chrissie, they were never enough. They didn’t fill the gaping hole in his heart, he could feel it ever-growing, splitting him like a chasm with never-ending darkness inside, dragging him deeper into himself and into despair.
He hadn’t had to finish it, in the end. Robert had been getting riskier and riskier with his rendezvous’, desperately trying to feel something, anything, for anyone, his wife or otherwise.
No one had succeeded.
Chrissie had caught him with another woman in their bed. She’d screamed their house down, thrown expensive pillows and trampled on expensive flowers. Robert had nodded along with her and looked sad in the appropriate places, but ultimately all he’d felt was an overwhelming sense of relief.
He’d cried to himself in the bathroom floor of a Travelodge he’d had to book that night, thinking of all he’d lost. Then he’d laughed, because he was fucking free.
Finally.
He could try to find something that actually made his life worth living.
Robert had had to come to terms with a lot in the next few months. In between divorce lawyers, moving the half of his stuff that hadn’t been destroyed by Chrissie into a new flat, and trying to work out what it was he actually wanted, he felt lighter. More optimistic, suddenly. He was going to get what was his from her and then start over in his life, because that’s what he deserved.
Robert doesn’t realise, but whilst his mind has been wandering, his feet have dragged him to a park not that far away from his flat.
He decides to walk through, hoping the short detour will calm his nerves and shake the feeling of Chrissie following him at every turn.
Robert can’t believe the turn his life has taken, how he’s gotten here. He shakes his head gently, pulling out his phone with the intention of checking his twitter feed to take his mind off things when it happens.
Everything flashes by so quickly. He’d been walking next to a stream-turned-river running through the park, and yes, he admits that it does have barriers, but then he’s tripping on a rock and his phone is flying out of his hand, over the barrier. He leans over to catch it, overestimating his balance and topples head first into the river.
Luckily, it’s not that deep, and there’s not too many people around considering it’s 2PM on a weekday. Most people are at work, and the rest are at school, so there’s barely anyone to embarrass himself in front of.
Except one man.
Who is roaring laughing, standing on a bridge where he’d been leaning, watching Robert fall into the water after his phone like something out of a film.
“Glad someone finds this funny,” Robert shouts as he picks up his trashed mobile, sodden and useless. He shoves it into his similarly wet pocket and trudges toward the barrier, cursing to himself because this bloke is quite fit, and he’s just made an absolute twat of himself.
He climbs over, shaking himself like a wet dog and wishing he could just drown in the river rather than face the embarrassment of this situation.
“Should’a seen your face mate,” the man chuckles as he comes to stand beside him, still laughing and a bright smile on his face. “Brilliant.”
“Ha ha,” Robert replies sarcastically, rolling his eyes, “You should be lucky it’s not you who’s going to have to pay for a new phone!”
“Worth it though,” the brunette man has just the right amount of scruff framing his face, un-gelled hair looking soft and eyes shining, inviting, open. “Gave me a right laugh, so thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” Robert bites back, “I’ll be going now, if you don’t mind.”
Feeling thoroughly humiliated, he begins to walk away when he feels a firm hand gripping his arm. He’s spun round, the strength of the man showing as Robert now faces him. Robert’s not ashamed to say he’s half hard.
“Wait a second,” the man says, “You think I’d just laugh at ya and not help ya out?”
“…Yes?” Robert hesitates, not quite understanding what this man is saying. “You don’t know me.”
“True,” he shrugs, and Robert’s weirdly attracted to his disinterest, “But you’re quite fit, so I suppose I can try to.”
Robert laughs then, really laughs, his first proper one in ages. The stranger is smiling back too, hands in his pockets, looking bashful now.
“Are you usually this forward…?” Robert asks, the silent plea for a name hanging in the air.
“Aaron,” Aaron supplies, “And no, not really.”
He doesn’t elaborate, and it gets under Robert’s skin. He feels like this could be the start of something. “So does that make me special?”
“Wouldn’t go that far,” Aaron smirks, “Don’t be getting any ideas. I’m just a kind stranger wantin’ to help ya out.”
“Mmm, sure,” Robert grins and it’s like an inside joke already. Even though he’s sopping wet, no phone, life in tatters, he feels happy. Standing here with Aaron, who laughed at him for falling into a river, it feels right. “No ulterior motives then?”
“Me? Nah,” Aaron shrugs, “I’m an angel, me. Never got into trouble in my life.”
“Careful,” Robert says, “Might put me off. Quite like a bad boy myself.”
“Oh yeah?” Aaron replies, a challenge in his eyes, “I’ll see what I can do.”
Sugar Daddy Hanzo part 9
Hey guys, I’m sick as well as moving to a new town, so please forgive how short this chapter is. Just 2,500ish words. Hopefully, I can get the packing done soon and maybe get out another chapter this weekend. Take care, everyone!
BTW, this whole business world AU is based on my bud @watch-your-grammer‘s post here. She’s glorious and so is her work.
The rest of the story: pt one, pt two, pt three, pt four, pt five, pt six, pt seven, part eight
You rubbed your eyes as best you could without ruining your makeup and sighed. It felt as if you hadn’t had a good night’s rest in ages, not since the first time you and Hanzo had broken it off. Now, two months since Genji’s house party, you were still feeling crumpled and confused. Yes, the initial pain had subsided quite a bit, but your desire to be with him again was still raging like an inferno. As was your resentment at how terribly you missed Hanzo.
“Distractions,” you whispered to yourself as you slipped on your shoes, “I just need to be focused on something else. I’ll be fine. He’s just a boy, I’ll get over it.”
Which was worse, trying to force yourself to hate a man, or clinging on to every memory you had together like a desperate fanatic?
“Christ,” you hissed, “I’m starting to sound like Lori.”
As soon as you had tossed on your coat, your phone began to sing, and you smiled. “Hey Lucio,” you chuckled as you answered, “did you change my ringtone when I wasn’t looking?”
“Of course I did,” he laughed, “no college of mine is going to have a generic ringtone! Besides, ain’t you supposed to be repping me? Makes sense that you have one of my hits bumping out your cell every time I call!”
“Good point,” you nodded, checking your hair in the mirror one last time. “You here?”
“Yeah, I’m downstairs. You ready?”
“Be there in a sec,” you said, more cheerily than you had sounded in weeks. When your favorite client had surprised you at work the other day, things had instantly felt one hundred-times better. Lucio was always lively, excited, and willing to do just about anything to help someone have a good time. Which was where you came in. When he went a little over the top or stepped on a few toes with his . . . aggressive approach to philanthropy, you came in to smooth things over and convince media outlets to avoid heated words without knowing the facts.
“Lookin’ swanky, girl,” Lucio said as he waved you into his bright yellow sports car. “Those the frog earrings I sent you?!”
“Well of course,” you giggled, “they’re my favorite, and like you said, I’m here repping you.”
“Nice,” he said giving you a loud high five, “and might I say, you’re rocking that bright green dress.”
You flushed, “It’s not too much, is it?”
“No way! Just look at me,” he snorted, lowering his gold-rimmed sunglasses and gesturing to the shimmering golden equipment strapped to his legs. Even though he wasn’t the DJ at tonight’s event, the man wouldn’t be caught dead unprepared if the opportunity to ‘up the tempo’ arose.
“I suppose it’s not every day I get to go to a disco, so I may as well bring out the glittery go-go boots while I can,” you grinned.
“Now that’s what I like to hear,” Lucio cheered, pulling away from the curb like a wild man and cranking the radio, “Woo, let’s get this party started!”
As the two of you drove, Lucio chattered away almost nonstop, only interrupting his stories about his tour to bop along to the radio. He would automatically harmonize with any vocals, and his perfect tone gave you shivers.
“Is something up,” he eventually asked as he pulled up to the line for the valet parking, “you’re not usually this quiet.”
“Oh, I’m fine,” you lied, eyeing the big Overwatch logo on the massive limo in front of you.
“Hey,” Lucio said, turning down the music, “come on, talk to me. That’s why you’re my favorite person to work with – you’re honest with me, no matter if I do great or if I really screw something up.”
You looked over to him and sighed. Lucio wasn’t just a client, he was a friend, too. The two of you had fumbled through the beginning of your careers together and backed each other up when things went haywire. He had helped you build an amazing resume, and you had helped him become a household name.
“It’s just,” you began awkwardly, “I kinda had a bad break up a while ago, and I’m really hoping he won’t be here tonight.”
“Oof,” he grunted with a grimace, “that’s the worst. You were right when you told me not to date that pop star, ended in a world of hurt and I have to see her everywhere! This guy, would he be here on the famous people end, or on the sponsoring end?”
“Sponsoring, I guess,” you said waving your hand at the Overwatch circle in frustration.
“You were dating someone with Overwatch,” Lucio asked somewhat incredulously. You nodded. “Well, at least you know how to pick ‘em. Was he a bigwig? Most of the time only bigwigs come to these things. And old friends,” he added, elbowing you gently.
“He’s a bigwig,” you groaned, watching as Gabe, Lena, and Mei all shuffled out of the back seat. Maybe you would get lucky and avoid having to share a room with Hanzo tonight, but that seemed way too fucking unlikely.
“See him,” Lucio asked, leaning around to try to get a better look.
“No, but his brother’s here,” you said softly as Genji waved to the cameras flashing at him.
Lucio leaned over the steering wheel and gave you a sad look. “This is really bothering you, isn’t it?”
“It was a big, stupid, ugly mess,” you huffed. “I just want to get over it and move on.”
“Well that can be arranged,” he beamed, “all you gotta do is promise me you’re going to have some fun tonight, no matter if this jerk is in here or not.”
“How you do you know he’s a jerk,” you asked, slumping onto the armrest doubtfully. How could you enjoy yourself if you were going to be assaulted with Hanzo’s handsome face all night?
“The guy’s got to be a jerk, he let you go,” Lucio said with a wink, “and besides, even if he’s not a jerk we can pretend his is for the new couple of hours and rub our good time in his face. Because that’s what friends do – help their pals get dramatic revenge at fancy parties.”
You couldn’t help but smile at Lucio’s devious and cute smirk, “Alright, I’ll do my best to have a great time, no matter what.” Besides, it looked like Hanzo wasn’t going to show anyway.
“Hell yeah! First round’s on me,” he said sitting up in his seat and accidentally bumping the horn. The chorus from his current number one hit blared out and made the Overwatch crew jump. Lucio quickly rolled down his window and hung out the window. “Sorry ‘bout that!”
As soon as the paparazzi saw him, the crowd went wild with cheers and photographs and calls for his attention, which Lucio soaked up graciously. He waved and blew a few kisses before shouting, “Hey, how about these Overwatch folks though, am I right? Gotta love a group of people who’re trying to make the world safer.” With this, he plopped back in the driver’s seat and grinned at you. “Whoops.”
“Very good of you to put the attention back on Overwatch,” you laughed, “being humble is always a good look.”
“Just being honest, I really do have a lot of respect for those guys,” he said. “I suppose it would be rude of me to ask you to introduce me to some of them considering the circumstances, right?”
“Um, rain check,” you asked bashfully.
“Next time,” Lucio agreed.
After a moment or two, it was Lucio’s and your turn to walk up the party, only there was much more shrieking and, ‘we love you’ shouts than Overwatch had received. So many fans fawning over your friend, all you could do was shake your head. However, when he looped his arm in yours to lead you to the door, you went bright red, and the crowd gasped.
“Uh, Lucio,” you said tentatively.
“Let them jump to conclusions,” he scoffed, “it makes for good news, and if your ex comes around I want him to know that he’s going to have to deal with me if he wants to bug you.”
A snort burst from you as you looked at Lucio’s incredibly un-scary ‘tough-guy’ face. “He’s going to be petrified,” you laughed.
“Hey,” he said, feigning being hurt, “are you saying I’m not formidable? ‘Cause you know I am.”
“You’re the best, Lucio, that’s what you are,” you snickered as you pulled him to the door.
The lobby was decked out in neon lights and fluorescent colors, making you blink involuntarily. “Damn,” you gaped, looking at the tie-dye carpet that led to the massive glass elevator, “they really went all out.”
Suddenly Lucio gasped and gripped your arm and shook you. “Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! It’s D. Va!”
“The pilot and gamer girl? Wonder what she is – Holy shit! She brought her mech?! That’s – ” you reeled.
“That’s the coolest fucking thing ever,” Lucio squealed like an excited little kid. “You think she’d let me say hi? Or is that weird and needy? Or too super fan-y?”
“Didn’t she tweet out a few months ago that she was super bummed she wouldn’t be able to see your show in Seoul and – ”
“And gave that ticket to one of her fans! That’s right! She’s badass and a good person,” Lucio said with a wide smile.
“Not to mention a fan of yours,” you said. “Go see her! I’m sure she’d love to hang out with a fellow ‘badass and good person’ like yourself.”
Before you knew what was happening Lucio had swept you up in a massive hug. “Thanks, girl! You cool on your own for a few?”
“I’ll be fine,” you said shoving him away playfully, “now go, goofball.”
He scuttled off and disappeared into the growing hub of party-goers waiting for the elevator. You headed to the catering table nearby to wait, absently looking at the twelve disco balls twirling above you.
“Pretty, isn’t it,” snapped a familiar voice from behind you. You frowned and twisted around.
“Lori? What the – what are you doing here,” you asked worriedly. Since the whole incident with Hanzo, you hadn’t seen much of her, especially after she got fired for pitching fits at work all the time and trying to sabotage your work. Judging by her enraged scowl, she hadn’t gotten over it.
“Watching the mother-fucking finger food,” she snarled, gesturing to her little apron.
“Oh,” you said, taking a step back, “I, um – ”
“You ruined my life,” she seethed, grabbing your arm and pulling you toward her.
“Lorelai,” you sighed, “I’m sorry about the way things went down, I really am, but come on, can’t we just put it behind us?”
“What,” she said with an unsettling laugh, “you want to be friends again? No way in hell.”
“That’s not what I want,” you frowned, “but I don’t think charging me at a party is necessary either. That, and you weren’t exactly ‘friend of the year’ anyway.”
“You stole my boyfriend! You’re the shitty friend,” she barked, dragging you toward a corner. The music was so loud her outburst hadn’t turned any heads, but the sudden confrontation had a few people looking on curiously. Lori had always been very good at causing a scene.
“Look,” you sighed, “will it make you feel better if I tell you we’re no longer together?”
“What,” she asked, her voice no longer filled with malice.
“Yeah, I broke it off,” you shrugged, “had to.”
Lori’s head dipped back as she laughed mockingly. “Bullshit! He probably dumped you, saw what a damned mistake he made with your ugly ass.”
“Believe what you want,” you said trying to yank your arm away from hers, “but it’s over, for he and I, for you and I, now leave me alone.”
“No,” she growled, shoving you toward the wall and reaching for her apron’s pocket, “we’re not done yet, you homewrecker.”
“Woah now,” a very tall woman said as she approached the two of you, “is it not a little early in the party for fights to be starting up? I have not even had a drink yet.”
The stranger tried to put a hand on Lori’s shoulder, but your former friend was quicker, pulling out a small handgun and pointing it at you. Before anyone had time to say anything, Lori fired a shot at you.
You watched in horror as the big woman snatched Lori’s wrist and twisted it behind her before pinning her to the ground. The woman was a beast, holding tiny Lori with one hand and shoving the gun in her waistband with the other as if it were nothing before looking up to you. “Are you al– pizda rulyu.”
Everything felt tight and wrong as you tried to take a breath. But nothing happened, at least not as it was supposed to. Everything hurt as you looked down and saw the blood pouring from your chest. But it couldn’t be yours, could it? Everything swayed to the side as you touched your breast and the blinding pain hit you. But the choking feeling in your throat was somehow even more oppressive.
Somewhere you could see flurries of movement and frenzied noises, but your mind couldn’t process anything but your inability to take a proper breath. You were so scared. And confused. What had happened? What was happening? What was going to happen to you? Were you – were you dying? You looked up at the faces trying to help you, but they only frightened you more.
None of them were familiar.
Where was Lucio?
Where was Mags? And the rest of the girls?
Where was your mom? Your dad?
Where was your grandmother? Your grandfather?
Where was Hanzo?
You wanted Hanzo.
You didn’t want to die without him.
Instead of words, you hacked out blood as you tried to ask for him, which made you panic triple, but your body wasn’t your own right now. It flopped about and trembled and leaked and sputtered without your control. Everything was so blurry and painful. You grabbed out for someone – anyone who could help you find someone you loved, but no one understood. They laid you down and tried to stop the bleeding and said things you were sure were kind, but nothing helped.
Everything hurt, and you wanted Hanzo.
That’s all you wanted.
To tell him he was an asshole for ever ruining what you had together.
To tell him he was the best sex you’d ever had.
To tell him he was a persnickety dick.
To tell him he was the most important person in your life.
To tell him he was an uptight grouch who was about to turn everyone away.
To tell him he was an incredible man for trying so hard to better himself.
To tell him he was a pain in the ass.
To tell him he was the only man you’d ever loved.
But you wouldn’t get the chance.
He wasn’t here.
And you couldn’t force yourself to stay awake any longer.
Trapezoid
Rating: General / no warnings Characters: Miyuki Kazuya/Sawamura Eijun, Haruichi Kominato, Kuramochi Youichi, Furuya Satoru
Summary: Ever wonder how our favorite baseball boys would do in the world of hockey (and just how much the flirting would stay the same?)
For @highnooning and I hope you enjoy this little AU slice resulting from watching too much playoff hockey with a lot of baseball in between ;)
—————————-
Another day bringing yet another practice session at the local ice rink after school. The Seidou Challengers had lost a heartbreaker at the end of last season to the Inashiro Kings, and it had hit the newest forward on the team hard. Suffering a terrible defeat after being removed from the game due to a possible concussion only had lasting repercussions.
It took many months of rehabilitation before Eijun was able to skate back into the ice with confidence, before he was able to fully use his speed once again to breakaway through the opposing zone without fear of being hit straight back towards the ice.
He owed quite a lot of his improvement to their graduated goaltender Chris. Someone that everyone respected and had provided the perfect tips to overcome his fears of the ice one baby step at a time…
“Oy, knucklehead! The puck is behind you – behind!”
And then, there was their current all-star goaltender – Miyuki Kazuya.
All practice long he had been yelling at him, grinning behind that stupid excuse for a practice mask that was (almost) as ridiculously adorned as the one he used during real games. <I>Seriously just who would put a brightly coloured raccoon on their game mask anyway?</I>
Eijun was tempted to turn around and just fire the puck back at his own team’s annoying goaltender himself, reigning in his frustration at the last second to instead push his skate blade firmly into the ice for a turn – and proceeding to fall flat on his face instead.
“Eijun-kun! Are you alright?” Haruichi asked nervously, his skates sending a shower of ice flakes over Eijun’s face as he came to a quick stop beside him.
“No, my pride is bruised… and it’s all that damn tanuki’s fault!” Eijun all but screamed glaring at said goaltender over his shoulder.
Said goaltender who calmly already had the puck securely clasped in his glove, displaying it proudly to one forward growing ever more agitated by the second.
“I told you it was behind you, not that I couldn’t get to it or already didn’t have it,” he continued to grin.
“Tanuki-bastard,” Eijun couldn’t help fuming, couldn’t help skating away to the opposite side of the rink to prod Furuya into changing sides of the ice with him. Not that he wanted to… in the slightest… but there was just something about that goaltender that pushed all of Eijun’s buttons the wrong way.
“What? Giving up already- but I thought you loved my style of defence?” Miyuki preened from the other side of the ice.
“Just ignore him Eijun-kun,” Haruichi smirked. Swiping a puck from the middle of the ice as he quickly pushed backwards towards the goal.
If there was one thing Eijun knew, it was never to go up against Haruichi in a one-on-one battle with his current intimidating expression on the ice. If there was one thing Eijun knew not to do, it was pick a fight with their leading scoring defence man on the team.
Eijun couldn’t see the expression pass over Miyuki’s face as Haruichi blocked his view. All he could hear was the sudden halt to a peel of Miyuki’s laughter as his friend’s form skated closer to the net. While small in stature the menace that could radiate off his team’s key defenceman could stop a player in their tracks (or a goalie in his pads it seemed). There was no other sound but of a stick hitting in the ice in a smooth arc, the puck driving from Haruichi’s stick as it soared solidly over Miyuki’s shoulder straight into the back of the net – as close to the goaltender’s helmet as he could get without actually hitting him.
A hyena-like laughter took over from the other side of the ice, Miyuki glaring over at the team’s other key defenceman from the goaltender’s position currently sprawled out just in front of his net.
“Serves you right Miyuki for picking on one of the sophomores, even if it is my room mate,” Kuramochi replied skating from his own corner of the ice. Not hesitating to cross the center line and put Eijun into a headlock in the process.
He tried to struggle out of Kuramochi’s grip only to be hauled the length of the ice – right back to his prior position in front of Miyuki’s crease.
“Say you’re sorry Miyuki,” Kuramochi only squeezed harder, Eijun’s face turning a shocking shade of red before the pressure eased slightly around his neck.
“Sorry Miyuki,” the goalie teased, gaze full of mirth but unable to look away from the still puffing Eijun trapped in front of him.
“Now shitty captain, play nice and tell your forward sorry the <I>proper</I> way. If not… you might just find something unpleasant in your gear bag later.”
“Kuramochi, threats with printouts of your face will scar me for life-“
“You shit head!” Kuramochi replied instantly, loosening his arm around Eijun’s neck fully to only swing it in Miyuki’s direction instead.
With one swift, flexible bend Eijun knew immediately why he was so screwed being on the same team as the overly annoying goaltender. Knew just how much those limbs could twist from countless hours spent watching Miyuki perform his warmup stretches and splits before games and practices, and just how much it annoyed him the weights he could lift with those tree trunk legs at the same damn time.
Eijun was so distracted he missed Miyuki briefly lose his balance, avoiding another grab from Kuramochi (and the slight push the defenceman gave Miyuki in Eijun’s direction), never catching the briefest look of panic crossing the goaltender’s face before he was slipping forwards and straight into Eijun’s frozen form.
He was lucky not to hit his head on the ice, Eijun somehow managing to twist at the last possible moment before an arm gripped firmly around his side. He didn’t feel the sharp crack of pain he was expecting on the side of his face, opening his tightly closed eyes to see one concerned looking goaltender leaning over him with reddened cheeks.
It took an extra moment to feel the cushioning leather at his neck of a well-conditioned glove. For Eijun’s eyes to drift to the blocker arm braced solidly against the ice right beside his head before they slowly drifted upwards – Miyuki’s expression laced with panic from his position on the ice.
“Do you hurt anywhere?” Miyuki asked.
Eijun however was still transfixed by the intensity of the goaltender’s gaze and the way Miyuki’s glove seemed to be caressing the back of his head in reassurance.
“Come on Sawamura, please answer me. I can’t be held responsible for taking out our swiftest forward and winner of the most face offs on the team before the game even starts tonight… <I>or the one who will someday be the team’s scoring champion.”</I> The last few words caught in a whisper as Miyuki leaned in to gage Eijun’s reaction before his muscles finally started to move on their own again.
“Of course I’m fine you damn tanuki! I thought you were more balanced than that though from all of your ‘elite’ training and stretching.”
Miyuki taking Eijun’s response as proof enough he was truly alright before pushing himself off from the ice, pulling Eijun’s somewhat reluctant body for the ride with those damn strong arms that moved quicker than he could even react.
“Oh I am, but just can’t help it when another force changes my center of balance,” Miyuki turned his head to glare briefly at Kuramochi before releasing Eijun from his grip.
“Not my fault you’re useless unless you’re standing in front of your own damn net,” the defenceman sniped back, sending one last light punch to Miyuki’s side before skating by. “You’re seriously alright Sawamura?” Concern filling his team mate’s features as he briefly stopped at Eijun’s side.
“I’m sure. I’ll be alright for the game and win <I>all</I> the face offs for you!”
“You better you rowdy brat!” As Kuramochi leaned in and Eijun tried to lean back out of his way before his head was gripped again tightly, a whisper just loud enough for him to hear echoed in his ear, “but remember Sawamura that you miss one hundred percent of the shots you <I>don’t</I> take.”
Eijun frozen again in shock watching Kuramochi skate back to Haruichi without another glance back in his direction. Turning to just catch Miyuki’s expression at Kuramochi’s back before the goaltender reverted to his normal self once again. A smug wink sent his direction before Miyuki was once again gliding back to the safety of his own net.
Kuramochi’s words etched into his thoughts as the glares Miyuki had sent somehow finally made sense. Wondering just how you could approach one of the most un-approachable players on the team in seriousness for the feelings blooming tight from within his chest.
How to reply appropriately to the feeling he felt on the ice from Miyuki leaning above him- if he should just give in and close the distance to finally kiss him.
“Hey scoring champion, you going to join us anytime today?” Kuramochi inquired.
Eijun only ignoring him for a brief second before skating to his team mates at center ice. Promising once he reached his goal and the team were finally victorious as league champions for the season to let the ridiculous(ly handsome) goaltender know just exactly how he truly felt.
