Robert Floyd was a private person, everyone who meets him can attest to it. But, the one thing he could never keep quiet about, was his wife. The very same wife who the Dagger Squad had never met and had never seen a photo of.

"Are we even sure baby on board even has a wife?" Jake, stupidly, asked. The others ignored him, Bob wasn't one to lie and they've all seen the ring and heard the one sided phone calls.

It was Natasha that met you first, you were in the same store as her and she had spotted your glasses from farther away.

"Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I love your glasses," Natasha said as she walked up, you smiled over at her.

"Oh, thank you! My husband got them for me because my mom's maiden name is Hearts," you told her. You noticed her uniform before speaking next, "Are you Navy?"

"I am," she told you, then recited her callsign. You smiled at her, told her that was a cooler call sign, and then you two said your goodbyes before leaving. As you walked away, you realized that had to be the Phoenix your husband was back seating for.

You met Bradley next, your dad was also an enjoyer of Hawaiian shirts and his birthday was coming up. You saw a man walking around the same store you were in holding the perfect one for your father.

"Hi, I'm sorry to bother you, but where did you find that shirt?" You questioned the taller stranger.

"Oh, back there," Bradley pointed behind him snd your eyes caught sight of the shirt.

"Thank you!" You told him, racing off with a muted goodbye.

Bradley and Natasha figured out their stranger interactions had been the same person at the Hard Deck a few days later.

"I ran into the woman who asked where I found this shirt at the mall the other day," Bradley told the group. "She had these heart glasses and it was like her whole face lit up when I told her," Bradley said, he was lamenting the fact that he never asked if she was single.

"Wait," Natasha cut in. "Did she have a black purse with a butterfly attachment and y/h/c hair?" Natasha questioned. y/h/c = your hair color

"Yeah, how did you know?" Bradley questioned, his face scrunched in confusion.

"That's the woman I complimented on her glasses! She's married, her husband got her glasses for her," Natasha told Bradley, her face twisting into disgust at his earlier words of wanting to take her out.

"Damn, that's one lucky man then," Bradley mused, everyone missing the small grin growing on Bob's face. He had figured you were the one they were talking about.

Mickey was the next to meet you, he had recognized your description from the others and wanted to double check you were you. You were just walking to your car from work.

"Hi, this may sound weird but did you ask a taller man with a mustache about a Hawaiian shirt and get complimented on your glasses by a woman whose call sign is Phoenix?" Mickey rushed out before you could run away from the odd question.

"Oh, yeah, why?" You had subtly taken a step back from him.

"I'm in their squadron! They will never believe that I met you," Mickey pumped his fist in the air and you relaxed.

"Oh, well, hello," you laughed gently, your smile easy. "What do they call you?"

"Fanboy, but my name's Mickey, ma'am," he offered his hand and you shook it.

"Nice to meet you Mickey," you offered your name before walking away, you got in the car and let yourself laugh even harder. These were definitely the people from your husband's squadron.

Jake was next, he hit on you before you even looked at him.

"What's a darling lady like you doing alone?" Jake slid into your space, you were grocery shopping for breakfast while Bob slept in a bit.

"Mu husband's asleep," you told him, turning to face him.

"Wait, no way, you're the infamous y/n?" He perked up and you realized what was happening.

"Are you another from the group of people from the same squadron that I keep running into?" You questioned, a humorous smile growing on your face.

"I am, the name's Hangman," he offered his hand and you shook it.

"Well, I have no idea how many more of you there are," you lied. "But tell the others I'm excited to run into them as well," you bit him farewell while leaving, missing Jake pulling his phone out to text the Dagger Squad group.

Bagman: You'll never guess who I ran into Phoenix: Heart glasses y/n? Bagman: At the grocery store Rooster: You hit on her, didn't you? Fanboy: He most definitely did Phoenix: Did she bring up her husband? Bagman: She did Payback: I was supposed to meet her next! Coyote: I call next time

You met Ruben next, much to Javy's dismay. You were at the gym and Ruben couldn't find his earbud case.

"Hi, sorry," Ruben automatically apologized when you slightly jumped. "I didn't mean to scare you, it's just that I was using this machine earlier and I can't find my earbud case. Have you seen one around here by chance?"

"Oh, is it blue?" You questioned, your glasses slowly falling down your face. It brought them to Ruben's attention and you saw him get excited.

"Yeah, it is, you wouldn't happen to be y/n, would you?"

"I am, are you apart of that Navy squadron?" You grabbed the blue earbud case you had seen under the machine earlier and handed it to him.

"That I am," he affirmed and you gave him a small smile. "Thanks for this," he lifted the case up just enough for you to see it.

"You're welcome,' you paused, waiting for his name.

"Payback or Ruben, ma'am," he told you and you nodded once. You two went your separate ways and as you left for the locker room, you texted your husband.

The last to meet you was Javy, he saw you as you walked into the hangar. You were there to pick up Bob since you had to borrow his truck while your car was in the shop, and Javy recognized your description right away.

"Holy shit, you're y/n! I'm Coyote or Javy!" He practically shouted, causing many to look over at you. You were suddenly surrounded by the entire squadron, questions flying at you faster than you could process.

Your savior came in the form of your husband, as always. His hand wrapped around your wrist and gently pulled you to him, his hand slipping right to it's home on your waist. "Are you ok?" Bob lowly asked in your ear, you nodded with a bright smile on your face.

"Wait," Jake called out but his shock made him pause. "Your husband's baby on board?"

"Yeah, my husband's Bob," you told him, your eyes sharpening at the name Jake called him.

"How long have you known who we were?" Natasha asked.

"Since you, well, I didn't know who Bradley was until Bobby came home and told me. I'm sorry for never asking your name to properly thank you," you apologized to the man but he waved you off.

"I think that's ok, I did accidentally tell your husband how I was upset at myself for never asking you out," Bradley told you and you laughed at the feeling of Bob tightening his hold on you.

"He told me about that, while I appreciate two of you thinking I'm attractive, I am very happy in my marriage," you told them, it was enough to snap Jake out of his shock.

"How the hell did Bob bag you?" Jake exclaimed and you looked over at him again.

"He's got a huge," Bob cut you off with a tug away from the others.

"Ok, that's enough," your husband told you with ear tipped ears. You gave him a sweet smile as you heard the laughter from his squad. Bob led you away from them and out of the building and to the car. "You're going to pay for that," Bob told you as he started his truck, his hand landing on your thigh.

"I can't wait," you told him, your smile widening just a little bit more.

joshua hong as your teenage love that didn't work out, but who you never forgot

the moment joshua stepped inside the party, every eye was on him.

back in the day, he wasn't really the most popular person ever. he had his moments, his dear friends, but popular? someone every single person wanted to impress? nah.

but it's different now, isn't it? he's joshua hong now, a well known celebrity. his eyes are still the same, but his hair is now slicked back, there's a cross tattoed on his arm - a symbol of the faith he has never been ashamed about -, and his clothes look really, really expensive. he owns everyone in the room now-

so why is his eyes still on you?

you're talking to the same three people you used to hang out with during high school. usually you wouldn't attend a gathering like this, because truth be told you don't actually care how your school friends are doing now; but something made you do it. something inside your gut told you to just go and see what could potentially happen.

well, you're now laughing at a lame joke about a bad teacher you had almost 12 years ago, while you feel joshua's eyes burning on your shoulders.

"excuse me", you hear him say, you could recognize that voice anywhere, even with so many others talking over each other.

you try not to sweat when one of your friends gasp, looking at something - someone - behind you. there's not much you can do when your friend says-

"joshua hong!", he opens his arms, walking a bit past you to hug joshua. "it's been so long, my friend!"

"hey", joshua laughs. "i can't believe it took us this long to reunite."

joshua is pulled into your group, precisely beside you. everyone greets him, but he looks down at you as your friends tell him that 'of course, you're a superstar now' or 'you're always on the other side of the world, dude!'.

"hi, y/n."

it feels weird, but also so, so relaxing to hear your name rolling out of his tongue. you look up, eyes meeting his and suddenly your heart is warm.

you still remember, how quiet and cute he was, sometimes playing the guitar during lunch break, other times playing cards with his friends; during his last year though, his every free moment was spent with you.

joshua was, as most of his fans must daydream about, a teenage dream you wished you'd never have to woke up from. his love back in the day was gentle, reassuring, warm, and you're sure he must not have changed a bit.

"hey, josh", you whisper. your body move on it's own and, with a swift motion, you're hugging him. it doesn't surprise you when he hugs you back. "how have you been doing?"

"fine, thank you", he looks back at you, detaching his body from yours but softly holding your arm. "your hair is a bit shorter than i remember."

you chuckle. "yeah, i got a haircut last week."

"pretty as always."

your friends try so hard to catch joshua's attention, to get him talking about his career, how life has been ever since he left los angeles, to hear gossip from people they don't know, but joshua only has eyes and ears for you. he listens as you tell him what you've been up to, and how your sister just got married, and how your career has been going just fine thank you very much, and how you visited the country you always wanted to.

"i hope it was everything you ever wished it was", he smiles at you.

"it was."

and joshua is happy, truly. he can see in your eyes that life has been treating you just like you deserve it, and for some reason he's at ease with that; he feels like his mission is accomplished. afterall, the only reason why joshua agreed to go to that gathering, was you.

and it's nice, to see you after so long. to know that what you two had was really special, but that it ended for a reason - growth. you two needed to grow, separately, to achieve your dreams and live the life you always wanted to. sometimes it saddens joshua that the universe played him a trick and gave him his ideal type at such a young age, when you two didn't know any better; but also, it makes him smile when he remembers that you two had the maturity to do what you had to.

because now, when you tell him and your friends about your new boyfriend, who you're so in love with, joshua can sincerely smile and hope that the guy treats you well. he can sincerely feel his heart growing with happiness when you say the dude might pop the question sometime soon.

it doesn't feel weird, it feels nice. it feels like closure - just like it should be.

Meet Astra!

Gotta admit, I forgot I wanted to do a wiki-esque page for my deity oc and figured I might as well do it now as a late thank you for the 50+ followers. Part of me wanted to wait until the 100 followers but since I hadn't done anything special for 50, it was only fair I do that now.

So... Meet Astra!

Gotta admit, I took inspiration from @brain4stew's Galaxy Guardian design which I highly suggest checking out too because it's really cool and I want more people to see it too （＾ω＾）

She loved to watch people make memories and grant innocent little wishes, only to be surprised when she suddenly saw a new realm entirely and got thrown into it quicker than she would've liked. Thanks to the gear she managed to materialize using the void-like substance from her body, she can work as both a healer and a sentinel." - Astra's Description

Astra is a support & sentinel survivor. Available for 500$. They used to be a star deity but now she has to learn to be mortal whilst attempting to keep everyone's spirits up.

They still attempt to identify as a deity, not wanting to disappoint her new friends or downplay who she used to be. They just can't believe she was overpowered by an entity they didn't even know of.

Abilities;

Starry-Eyed

(Passive Abilitiy)

"Yeah, these eyes aren't great but that's why I got my hat!" - Astra

Astra is able to use the stars as a secondary set of eyes. Every 30 seconds, she will be able to briefly identify where the killer is on the map. But if another survivor is below 25% health, she will identify them instead.

However, they are forced to halt anything they're doing and freeze up entirely for 5 seconds during this.

Upon entering LMS, this ability gets disabled and instead provides a 30% speed and attack boost. If Astra happens to be below 25% health during this, she gets fully healed at the cost of her stamina.

Galaxy Potion

Cooldown: 30s

Keybind: Q

"Maybe a little boost will do~" - Astra

Astra either drinks or throws the bottle strapped to her for another survivor to drink. This fully heals whoever drinks it and provides a temporary speed boost but if a killer were to drink it, they would get stunned for 2s.

Chained Fate

Cooldown: 1m

Keybind: E

"Still chaining yourself to meaningless matters..." - ██████

Using the chains on her arms, Astra can stun the killer by tying them up. Normally, this would only last 5s but can be extended if another supporter is nearby. Every supporter within immediate range adds another 2s to the stun.

Quick Sweep

Cooldown: 10 - 15s (depends on if she teleported alone or not)

Keybind: R

If Astra is below 50% health, she can choose to teleport to a random location on the map outside of the killers vision. She may choose to take another survivor with her but that will add 5s to the ability cooldown. Either way, it comes at the cost of her stamina draining completely.

Lore

Astra was a deity of stars, watching Robloxians from all kinds of origins as the stars were basically her eyes. As long as she could remember, she enjoyed watching mortals and fulfilling wishes for the better. Wether that was a little kid wanting to get a pet or a parent concerned for their child.

She did whatever she could to make others happy and had her own little cult that was devoted to spreading her word through charity and good will. As such, she gained more of a permissive view on Robloxians as she wanted to believe in the best in them. Especially after she saw 007n7 abandon his ways to care for a child.

Astra genuinely believes anyone can change but still recognizes when someone is dangerous and will act accordingly. She isn't oblivious or careless in any way but she does try to stay optimistic and cheer up those around her whenever possible.

Astra uses She/They/It pronouns but usually doesn't care what she's referred to as. She considers herself genderfluid.

Astra struggled to take things seriously outside of rounds unless she can recognize someone being in a bad mood.

Astra's cult are like her own children. She likes to pretend they are at least. She wouldn't ever want to go through the same pain that some mothers go through for 9 months though...

She has almost an instinctive need to protect those around her.

Astra likes to believe she is still a deity despite her current form but struggles to convince herself at times, leading to her sometimes muttering incomprehensible words to herself.

Astra never had any needs to tend to so she had to be taught by the other survivors how living actually works.

Astra believes in giving everyone(who doesn't get hostile within the first five seconds of meeting) a chance but that doesn't mean trusting just anyone.

Astra did have parents but completely forgot their existence after a century of watching Robloxians.

She uses the stars attached to her hat to see properly. Her regular eyes can only see in blurs and outlines but the stars provide full clarity to her vision. Taking the hat off just causes her to go back to her blurry vision but she takes comfort in that at times.

Astra loves music but she's a bit shy about dancing because she never learned how to.

Sometimes she finds herself worrying about her cult.

Astra absolutely cannot stand loud noises. They overwhelm her quickly and she'll try to find a quiet place to allow her mind to stabilize.

She actually favours Noob, Elliot and 007n7 out of all the survivors but she's ashamed of admitting it. She has no reason to, she just does.

honestly, on a conscious level, no i don't think he does. buck feels everything with his entire being, but he's never been great at naming the things that matter most—especially when they threaten to upend the shape of his life. he just kind of moves through the world with an unflinching loyalty he doesn't interrogate too closely. his bond with eddie is so foundational, so ever-present, that i don't think he's ever seen it as something to question. it's not a feeling he arrived at—it's a place he's lived in.

to buck, everything that defines his relationship with eddie��being partners, trusting each other without hesitation, stepping into christopher’s life like it was always meant to be—is just natural. it’s never felt like a choice, so he doesn’t think of it as remarkable. and that’s part of why he doesn’t recognize it for what it is. the love is there—deep and steady and sure—but it’s so tightly woven into his day-to-day that it doesn’t strike him as something to name. it’s not a revelation he’s had; it’s a truth he and eddie have been living nearly since day 1.

i don’t think it really becomes something he thinks about until the morning after with tommy this season. this is the first time anyone in his orbit has made a passing comment about him and eddie’s relationship that doesn’t sound like a joke. and it lands—not because he agrees, but because, for the first time, he has to ask himself what it is everyone else seems to be seeing. that what he’s always known as natural, instinctive, constant… might look different from the outside. might look like something more. it knocks the wind out of him a little. like a door’s opened, and he’s not sure what’s waiting on the other side.

it's one thing to feel something and not name it, not look at it too closely. it's another thing to have someone else recognize it first—to hear it reflected back to you like it's obvious. and that’s where buck starts to spiral—because if that’s how it looks to tommy, who else might be seeing it too?

so he goes to maddie. and when she gently suggests it wouldn’t be so crazy—being in love with eddie—he shuts it down. hard. says it would be. says it’s not like that. says everyone seems to want me to be hopelessly pining for my straight best friend—which, let’s be honest, is a much more specific kind of panic than anyone had actually accused him of…

and we also have to remember who we're talking about... buck sure i’ll check out a hot guy's ass but that’s normal buckley... buck i’m an ally buckley....

and! for him, eddie isn't just his best friend—he's eddie!!!! his most special and favorite guy who can do no wrong! the most gorgeous, most impressive, most infuriatingly good person buck knows. of course eddie is breathtaking. of course he's everything! that's just a fact of the universe—as undeniable as gravity or sunrise. and buck assumes everyone else must see that too, because how could they not?

it's not something he confronts on his own, because it doesn't occur to him to. eddie is woven into his days, his choices, into every version of the future he pictures; he just hasn't fully let himself look close enough to realize what that means. until (gag i know) tommy brings it up.

so, no, i dont think he knows, not fully at least. but the love is there, though—in the rhythm of their lives, the spaces between what's said, in the future he hasn't quite dared to name. BUT big questions have been asked now, and i don't think he's going to be able to un-hear them.

it's waiting for him to catch up. and when he does, it won't feel like something new. it's going to feel like something that's been true for a long, long time.

i have so many thoughts you have no idea !! im going to have to limit myself or else this will be a giant jason post haha

so these are just my thoughts on how jason’s written and stuff like that, a few headcanons thrown in there (if you want headcanons pls pls pls request them i would love to do some !!)

he is literally my favorite character that rick riordan has made haha

like i read the first few pages of the lost hero and i went “yup this one, this one is my favorite, i choose you”

i’d like to think that at one point jason had an annabeth equivalent at camp jupiter but she died on a quest or something so she wasn’t there when he came back to camp jupiter

like percy had that whole like YES ANNABETH MY WIFE I KNOW WHO I AM NOW moment, like she was his tether to his memories

but jason just had reyna when he came back, and we don’t even know what the extent of their relationship was, like they were praetors together and she seemed very upset when he didn’t recognize her so it’s safe to assume that they were close but how close rick tell us how close they were !!!!

since jason doesn’t get a lot of his memories back and he’s so emotionally distant from them, it makes me think that to him, reyna really was just a close friend

so yeah i think there was someone really important in jason’s life who died and if they didn’t, and jason saw them when he got back to camp jupiter he would have had like an “aha!” moment and connected himself to his past memories like percy did

The boys are being chased by drone machines (android guardians) and there are lots of recurring motifs that I've come to recognize, such as the hourglass in the constellations of light, blue butterflies, and thunder/lightning. Of course the most important part is when the members encounter Halateez in glass coffins, locked in stasis yet aware of their presence.

The coda of the mv features Yeosang with the cromer, which is smashed! Per the advice of my lore tutor, I am saving the diaries for after I've watched the relevant content for Fever 3 so I expect to gain more context later.

The Deja Vu performance for MNET contains some more clues, such as the repeated use and allusion to "blue light" and blue in general being a dominant color-way of this cb.

@loving-that-officey-feel: I think the fact that Deja Vu is so clearly referencing The Matrix, and famous scene in the matrix is "This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."

It's clear Deja Vu is setting up a lot of story that we won't get to for a while yet.

You would think that Eternal Sunshine would be a relatively straightforward watch in comparison to Deja Vu, but I have been affected by my lore tutor's intriguing theories that something is not right about Eternal Sunshine. I'm inclined to agree: they're in this urban landscape full of color but devoid of life. There's a train going to nowhere. It's actually a very alienating set piece, despite the upbeat energy of the song.

I'm strangely reminded of Turbulence: another mv marked by its empty cityscape. They are tonally different, but with striking similarities, including that Wooyoung starts flying on both.

ok, this is what I will say about Eternal Sunshine... question 1) why does everyone have all these really put together, clean, fresh summery bright colour outfits.... while San has a ripped grey sweater ensemble that looks a lot like his clothes in Answer.... when San is the one who pulls Wooyoung out of the world/dream(?) at the end... San... who is in the garden prison in Wonderland..

At the end of Eternal Sunshine it starts "snowing" or at least something is falling down around them, which also reminds me of Answer.

I'm urged to listen to the lyrics of Eternal Sunshine: "If you could only keep one memory / which one would you choose?"

Now for the diaries! We have some background for World Z and I'm really not digging the idea of an industrial revolution that expands our lifespan for 200 years. More labor for capital!

But then follow that question with: 'how old does that make Halateez?'

We return to the cliffhanger that ended Fever 2: the boys are consumed by the hallucinations conjured by the gas and Yunho is able to talk Left Eye out of his grief-spiral (clearly drawing on his own barely-processed grief over the death of his older brother).

The people of World Z witness these actions and claim: "Those boys will be able to save the Black Pirate." INTERESTING! These World Z people know more than they are saying!

The members take the ship to infiltrate the android guardian's bunker where they encounter Men in Black Fedora (Halateez) in their glass prison, directly referencing the Deja Vu music video.

Despite them being separated by glass, Halateez are able to communicate with our boys. More than that, Halateez are able to transfer their energies/powers to the boys: "Soon after, we were wearing their black suits without even noticing." HOW??!!

We learn that the leaders of World Z are able to control the population by extracting their cherished memories and burning them for fuel (Eternal Sunshine lyrics!) and the smoke created from the burning is like an opiate subduing the masses.

Yeosang is captured and the Guardians threaten to kill him if Hongjoong and the members don't give up the Cromer. Yeosang would rather die than give up the Cromer (😭) and utters the most heartbreaking sentence:

"My friends would not have all been scattered if I had not met them at first"

noooo!!!! I hate/love that Yeosang is the one captured, given he is ostensibly the reason they found a home in the first place AND the reason it got taken away.

Yeosang smashes the Cromer, sending the boys back to World A without him. Yeosang is captured to be held prisoner and tortured by the robots in the glass case (of emotion) we find him in Say My Name!

We end Fever 3 with Ateez back in their world. They need to a) get back to World Z somehow with no Cromer and b) save Yeosang AND Halateez!

Now I see why the Snow White imagery for GH3 is so intriguing, given that Yeoang is essentially entombed in a glass coffin at the end of Fever 3.

@loving-that-officey-feel left me with some interesting observations:

now that you've read this diary in particular... think about the fact that Halateez: have magic powers, a magic ship, and had the Cromer. They are the biggest threat to Z. But they have been captured. The Android Guardians could easily yank thier memories (and later when you see Z's government publicly hanging and shooting people in the streets... just straight up kill them).

Halateez are the current biggest threat. Why are they alive in the glass cases with thier memories in tact when it would be much better for Z if they were not?

Why are the android guardians/Z keeping Halateez alive but imprisoned?

Do we know the source of Halateez's power? Are they not from World Z or World A but from somewhere else? Are we in a time loop? These may be questions no one has answers for yet, but I am curious to see what theories I'll develop as I wade deeper into the waters of the lore.

just had a random thought: what if Annabeth realized something was wrong with Minerva in Mark of Athena (in regards to the fact that Minerva is a manifestation of the suffering and deterioration of Athena’s body and mind due to the power Zeus stole that has been killing her in your AUs).

People like to say Athena disowned her daughter as Minerva, but when reading the book I’ve always gotten the sense that Minerva, between the stress of the Greek-Roman schism, the theft of her statue and the clear confusion that she would have to be displaying to stare at a map and not know how to navigate…is not in her right mind, and further, that her words should not be taken as something Athena would do or say and Annabeth should not have taken them to heart.

(As an aside, I dislike the way Athena is treated in the books and the tv show—she was not the villain in Medusa’s story originally—that was an invention of Ovid, and I don’t believe she would let a monster into her temple to punish children for something they did days ago. She’s wiser than that.

And in the Arachne myth, Athena did try to stop Arachne from giving into her own hubris before they ended up doing the weaving contest, from what I remember. She is wiser and more compassionate than some people think.)

I totally agree with you on Athena's treatment in PJO! She's really treated as a villain a lot of the time with the Medusa thing, which is the Roman version of the myth as far as I can find? I know Medusa was born a gorgon in the original.

And especially in the books and show! She's seen as distant and cold because of her domain as the goddess of wisdom, staying hands off and treating everyone like chess pieces. Even her own children, which I both love and dislike her having if I'm being honest.

And it just doesn't make any sense to me, because she helps a lot of heroes in the myths! She was Odysseus's patron of course, but she also helped Heracles, Jason, Diomedes, the original Perseus, and a lot of others!

And as far as Minerva disowning Annabeth goes, at least in my fics? One thing I'm not certain has gotten across very well, especially since it hasn't come up in the actual fic yet, is that Athena and Minerva are basically different people because of how they're split.

Minerva is, like you said, the pain and suffering and deterioration caused by the damage to Athena's soul. She was formed from the tragedy and trauma of what the Romans did to Athena and the last of Odysseus and Penelope's descendants combining with the soul damage and Athena's own rage and helplessness. She's essentially the opposite of Athena as we know her, constantly loud and angry and grieving. She's absolutely not in her right mind*, you're totally right!

*Particularly in my version of the events of Mark of Athena**

**My version has Minerva much angrier, lashing out to hide how much pain she's in and how confused and foggy she feels. She hasn't been out since the last war between the Greeks and the Romans, she has no idea how the modern world functions. She's also actively trying to push Annabeth away so she doesn't get hurt again. She considers everyone around her a threat, but she's too weak to do anything but lash out verbally.***

***Something else I don't think I've mentioned is that Athena and Minerva are so separate from each other that Minerva doesn't see Athena's children as her own. The other gods all recognize their children as theirs, no matter what form they're in. Minerva doesn't. To her, Annabeth is only another threat.

But Athena's love for her children is so strong that even when Minerva is in control, it stops Minerva from lashing out at them physically. Any Roman gods or demi-gods would have been attacked outright, and any Greek ones would have had to step very carefully to avoid the same fate. Even Apollo has gotten attacked by her a few times.

I'm also SO sorry this has taken me so long to answer. I swear I didn't forget about it, it's just been sitting in my drafts half finished because I couldn't figure out how to describe the relationship between Athena and Minerva. It's very complicated both internally and technically, and I still don't think I explained it all that well.

It's more like Minerva is the fragment of Athena's soul that Zeus broke off instead of just an alternate personality. She's the part that all of Athena's grief and anger and emotion gets shunted to when she goes numb. She's overwhelmed by painful emotions at all times and that's without the physical pain on top of it.

So yeah, sorry this took forever and a day. Thank you for it though, seriously!!! It really helped me figure out how I want to put Athena and Minerva's relationship into words!!

If your two year old is anxious about when dad is going to get home from work, teach him to recognize what patterns indicate that dad is coming home soon! After lunch we will do an activity and then clean and THEN dad will get home. Listen when the calendar day starts with an S dad does not have to go to work!!

and if something goes wrong and today does NOT go according to the plan your little guy expects, tell him!! Hey, dad has to go to work after all today, but he will be home after lunch! Today dad has to get groceries after work, so he’ll be home later than normal. But he will return with more bananas! Focus on the positives too, give them things they can understand. Don’t just say “not today,” they understand the concept of grocery stores and unexpected trips. Just tell them the problem. You’d hate being in the dark about everything that happens to you also. Let them control their situation, even if it’s just their own emotions and expectations.

or even! Teach them to read an analogue clock! Let me tell you, church nursery in the 1.5-3.5 age group got so much less stressful and anxious for EVERYONE when I taught my kids how to read the clock. They don’t have to ask me anymore how much time is left and fish for answers I can’t give them. They know that their guardians will come for them when the long stripe on the clock touches the 2, and that if they aren’t there then then they’re LATE and they get to hold this over their parents head. Because they know their parents can be late. And they LOVE knowing when this has occurred. There is so much less anxiety.

Okay but the weirdest thing about the whole "Brotherhood is better you should skip 03" discourse that's become commonplace now, it sort of forgets the world Brotherhood came out in and why you should watch the original Fullmetal Alchemist. When Brotherhood came out, the original Fullmetal Alchemist was one of the most beloved and most watched animes of all time. Brotherhood assumes you the audience have already seen it because of course you have, everyone has seen it, so it skips important information and speeds the story up because it doesn't want to bore you with things you already know. Have you ever wondered "hey why does the first episode of Brotherhood kind of suck, and why am I being introduced to like 50 new characters, and why are they acting like I know what the hell an alchemist is?" It's because Brotherhood thinks you've seen 03.

The first 7 or so episodes of Brotherhood constitute dozens of chapters in the manga, and the first 25 or so episodes of the original Fullmetal Alchemist. The Nina Tucker episode in Brotherhood, in FMA 03 takes up nearly three episodes. Yoki gets a backstory in 03 and it's genuinely one of the best episodes and taken directly from the manga and Brotherhood glosses over it because: duh, you've already seen it. And so if you skip the original you miss out on dozens of really great character building episodes like Ed and Al meeting Hughes for the first time and getting to spend a whole episode helping him free a train from terrorists, or Ed and Roy having a duel that expands on the relationship they have, or episodes where the brothers just help out random people in towns before the major story gets going.

The original also paces itself quite a bit better than Brotherhood and is more in line with the mangas storytelling. In the manga we don't find out about The Gate until nearly two dozen chapters in, and the same goes for the original anime. Like, that's a twist reveal in those stories, and it's weird that the most watched series is the one where they tell you all about The Gate in the first two episodes because they assume you've already seen the original show.

What's more, people don't know that Hiromu Arakawa helped write for the anime while she was still in the middle of writing the manga, and as a result was inspired to write scenes in Brotherhood that the anime did first. That scene of Edward getting impaled by a falling beam? Directly inspired by a similar scene in the original anime. There's a lot of little instances of that and they're great when you can recognize parallels and things in Brotherhood that are direct references to the original anime, but people don't notice any of that anymore. Because the original anime is just an automatic skip these days, and it's a bummer because people don't realize what a giant it was back before Brotherhood was released. They treat it as *bad,* not realizing it was one of the most beloved anime of its time and the problems people take issue with have a lot more to do with personal taste than any kind of actual flaw in the writing. Brotherhood was never meant to dethrone it, and the original anime was always supposed to be part of the viewing experience which is why those first few episodes of Brotherhood are so fast paced. So like, please stop telling people Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 is a skip, or it's bad, or you don't need it because Brotherhood is better. Regardless if you think Brotherhood is better or not, the original wrote Brotherhood's check. It was huge, it was beloved, and Brotherhood is *banking* on the knowledge you've seen all of it and loved it. And trust me when I say there is so much to love about the original series. It's still my favorite branch of the FMA franchise, and it's worth your time, I promise you.
