Ooooh throwing my hat in the ring for Old Norse clothing as inspiration!! I associate gambesons most with goth or even visigoth culture but I think thicker clothing due to colder climate would be more fun to play with. Plus if I remember right goths split from old German and settled in Sweden too so there's your Nordic ties (: I just think the aesthetic of historically-accurate viking attire is Neat.
