Looking at recent Cookie Run news, specifically the recent teaser trailer for Golden Cheese finally becoming playable, brings that one joke from Hetalia to mind.
Just, instead of England wondering about his religion, it's Golden Cheese going:
'Am I Egyptian..? Or Meso-American..? FUCK! I don't know...'

Monte Melqonyan/Մոնթե Մելքոնյան (1957-1993)
Honestly, I don't even know where to begin. He's one of those extraordinary individuals about whom countless books could be written and numerous movies could be made, yet still, so much would remain untold. You might wonder, "He's a National Armenian Hero—cool, but why should I know about him?" My answer is simple: if the world had more people like him, especially in today's times, it would be a much better place. He fought for justice, embodied culture and education, and radiated a deep love for his people and humanity as a whole. I believe everyone should aspire to have a little bit of Monte's spirit within them, regardless of their nationality.
Now, it's important to note that some things written about him in the Western press can be questionable and inaccurate. So, I would advise taking most of the information from those sources with a grain of salt.
Tumblr media
Monte was born on November 25, 1957, into an Armenian family in Visalia, California, that had survived the Armenian Genocide. From 1969 to 1970, his family traveled through Western Armenia, the birthplace of his ancestors. During this journey, Monte, at the age of twelve, began to realize his Armenian identity. While taking Spanish language courses in Spain, his teacher had posed him the question of where he was from. Dissatisfied with Melkonian's answer of "California", the teacher rephrased the question by asking "where did your ancestors come from?" His brother Markar Melqonyan remarked that "her image of us was not at all like our image of ourselves. She did not view us as the Americans we had always assumed we were." From this moment on, for days and months to come, Markar continues, "Monte pondered [their teacher Señorita] Blanca's question Where are you from?"
In high school, he excelled academically and struggled to find new challenges. Instead of graduating early, as suggested by his principal, Monte found an alternative - a study abroad program in East Asia. The decision to go to Japan was not random. He had been attending karate clubs and was the champion of the under-14 category in California. He also studied Japanese culture, including taking Japanese language courses. After completing his studies at a school in Osaka, Japan, he went to South Korea, where he studied under a Buddhist monk. He later traveled to Vietnam, witnessing the war and taking numerous photographs of the conflict. Upon returning to America, he had become proficient in Japanese and karate.
Tumblr media
Having graduated from high school, Monte entered the University of California, Berkeley, with a Regents Scholarship, majoring in ancient Asian history and archaeology. In 1978, he helped organize an exhibition of Armenian cultural artifacts at one of the university's libraries. A section of the exhibit dealing with the Armenian Genocide was removed by university authorities at the request of the Turkish consul general in San Francisco, but it was eventually reinstalled following a campus protest movement. Monte completed his undergraduate work in under three years. During his time at the university, he founded the "Armenian Students' Union" and organized an exhibition dedicated to the Armenian Genocide in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey.
Upon graduating, he was accepted into the archaeology graduate program at the University of Oxford. However, Monte chose to forgo this opportunity and instead began his lifelong struggle for the Armenian Cause.
Tumblr media
In the fall of 1978, Monte went to Iran and participated in demonstrations against the Shah. Later that year, he traveled to Lebanon, where the civil war was at its peak. In Beirut, he participated in the defense of the Armenian community. Here, he learned Arabic and, by the age of 22, was fluent in Armenian, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Persian, Japanese, and Kurdish.
From 1980, Monte joined the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA – I promise to tell you more about them later) and quickly became one of its leaders. In 1981, he participated in the planning of the famous Van operation. In 1981, he was arrested at Orly Airport in France for carrying a false passport and a pistol. During his trial, Monte declared, "All Armenians carry false passports—French, American—they will remain false as long as they are not Armenian." Over the following years, he perfected his military skills at an ASALA training camp, eventually becoming one of the group's principal instructors.
Tumblr media
Monte with his wife Seda
After being released from a French prison (once again) in 1989, Monte arrived in Armenia in 1991, where armed clashes between Armenians and azerbaijanis had already begun. He founded the "Patriots" unit and spent seven months in Yerevan working at the Academy of Sciences, writing and publishing the book "Armenia and its Neighbors." In September of the same year, he went to the Republic of Artsakh to fight for his fatherland and its people. Due to his military expertise, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Martuni defense district in 1992. His sincerity and purity quickly won the love and respect of the local population and the Armenian community as a whole.
Throughout his conscious life, Monte fought for the rights of Armenians, recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and the reclamation of Armenian homeland.
There are various versions of Monte Melqonyan's death circulating in both Armenian and azerbaijani media. According to official Armenian information, Monte was killed on June 12, 1993, by fire from an azerbaijani armored vehicle.
Monte remains a lasting testament to the incredible potential unleashed when the Armenian patriotic heart unites with sharp intellect.

In case you'd like to put a voice to the face and hear about the Artsakh struggle directly from Monte, here he is speaking about it in English.

Propaganda under the cut!
Kenjaku:
Submission 1: Kenjaku. Absolutely. Experienced the miracle of childbirth to have a son (for purely the purposes of being a vessel ) they did not bother to get to know- going quite a bit past being a deadbeat mother, what with murdering his father and leaving him to grow up raised completely by his grandfather. Actually, forget being a deadbeat mother to one son, try all nine of his siblings as well, all ditched immediately after birth! But they’re not really done after leaving the scene, and have lovingly taken the time to bodysnatch the ex of their son’s teacher, happily ruin their son’s life by making his head a roommate for an ancient sorcerer that gets him on society’s death row, barely bat an eye at the deaths of nearly all their sons, try to kill one of their sons, set up circumstances that nearly get their other son killed, and run into one of their son’s friends only to cheerful tell her they’re grateful she got along with their son. And then died housing their ex’s fetus in their man-made womb. Wonderful.
Submission 2:
Kenjaku is a genderless brain thing that took over the main character's (Itadori) mom and got laid by the main Itadori's dad in order ot enact her evil plan for the future. Truest deadbeat mom in the world she leaves soon after giving birth and Itadori doesn't know who his mom is. But wow she's kind of hot I can't lie. She's got game, she's hot and she's ambitious with her goals in life? Queen of my heart.
Extra notes: Wins both hottest deadbeat milf and dilf award in my heart
Lee Sookyung:
Submission 1:
Without spoiling too much, she kinda sorta maybe went to jail for murdering her abusive husband, and then maybe sorta kinda wrote a bestselling book about it thereby ruining her son's life by forever associating him with a murderer and then kinda maybe sorta doesn't ever address what happened and instead continues to pull the "mother knows best card" even though she hasn't spoken to him in like 20 years. SPOILER WARNING: For that reason she also is sorta maybe kinda the reason the apocalypse happens but we're not playing the blame game here she just sucks
Extra notes: I am legally required to tell you to read ORV
Submission 2:
murdered her abusive husband <3 then she wrote a book about it <3 accidentally ruined her sons life because of her refusal to speak to him/convey solidarity about the book and press attention with him + taught him that the only and best way to communicate your love for your child is to leave. when it was prophesied that he was going to be killed by the person he loved most she kidnapped and trapped him in a recreation of their childhood house and killed him. it didnt even fulfill the prophecy. shes so cool and leads an entire gang of female prisoners in the apocalypse and her sponsor/god is also a mom (and a bear. and the mother of the founder of korea). she hates her sons favorite character so bad for raising him where she didnt. you could make an argument that she gets into yuri with her sons friends if you want.

Kim Rok Soo!Cale – aka. Poster Child of Trauma
Let's list down all the traumatic experiences of our MC, shall we? :)
Body stolen by the White Star's reincarnation
Being affected by the Curse of the God of Death ("All those you cherish shall die") before being born
Rebirth in Korea, shortly followed by the death of his parents
Taken in by his abusive uncle, Kim Seung Jong, who falls into alcoholism and gambling
Either the uncle dies due to his addictions or it gets so bad Kim Rok Soo runs away – that part was a bit unclear
Gets into the orphanage, where all friends or caretakers he comes to care about leave him, one way or another
Choi Jung Gun shows up when Kim Rok Soo is about to get murdered by the Hunters Park So Jin & Jung Yi-Rang, posing as his counselor & classmate
CJG or the Hunters wipe his memory of the event, which one did it is slightly unclear
Just as KRS's life gets stable enough that he gets a job while studying at a university, the Monster Apocalypse strikes and he loses everything all over again
KRS starves under the wreck of a building for a week before getting rescued by Lee Soo Hyuk
LSH takes him to a shelter where Park Jin Tae is in charge, just for him to turn into an abusive leader who bosses KRS around and beats him up
Then the monster wave shows up, killing everyone KRS got to know and care about at the shelter. Hello, Survivor's Guilt!
Somehow, he survives the rest of the monster wave, but that surely wasn't a pleasant experience, considering all shelters lost power for 24 hours and KRS probably experiences the minor ones failing in-person (who knows just how many different shelters he tried to run off to??)
After a time skip KRS gets into the company and we assume life is pretty good for a while for him, under LSH's guidance and the friendship with Choi Jung Soo, as well as their other Team members... except then the Unranked Monster shows up and wipes KRS's entire Team in one go, leaving him the last and only man standing. Hello, Survivor's Guilt Part Two!
KRS attends the funeral of LSJ & CJS, only to be talked about behind his back how he's not even mourning them correctly because he's not crying (those bastards-!)
He takes upon himself to avenge LSH and the rest of the Team, because they were supposed to have back-up from a Guild which all ran away and left them to die. I suppose KRS going after them went down similarly to how he later toppled Arm and the Mogoru Empire, so let's call it his "practice run on Dismantling Corrupt Organisations"
He takes over as the Team Leader as well, overworking himself to the extreme (not even taking a single day off in the first year) to have a 0% casualty rate
He distances himself from the team in order not to suffer another heartbreak if something happens to them (also, my theory is that KRS subconsciously recognized the pattern of his Curse and made himself believe that he's a bad, selfish person who doesn't care about others... just so the Curse don't kill off his Team members this time)
Once again, he gets his body stolen without his permission – and sure, that turned out well in the end, but still: not just once, but TWICE! NOT cool, God of Death!!
He's dumped with the knowledge and responsibility of the conflicts to come in this new world, which was supposed to be originally CJS's job to fix. Come on, it's not KRS's fault he lived instead!! Not he's gotta clean up THIS mess...
Once again, Cale overworks himself white trying to achieve World Peace, because HOW is he supposed to rest if the world comes to an end around him – AGAIN!?
Cale's body wastes away from continuously sacrificing himself (while claiming that he isn't sacrificing himself) and keeps falling into a coma from Ancient Powers overuse
He breaks his plate in the battle at the Gorge of Death and suffers terribly to get it fixed
He gets a premonition that he's probably going to die around November 8th – THANKS A LOT, GOD OF DEATH!!
He also goes through a traumatic test of seeing his worst fear at the Wind Island
He attracts the attention of several nasty characters: like Adin, the White Star, or the Sealed God... which is definitely NOT a good thing
The Sealed God casually tosses him into an alternate universe to relive his greatest trauma
Cale, once again, has to solve problems in another world because he literally cannot do anything else
Also the White Star is trying to murder him in the meantime, so he suffers great physical AND mental pain at the same time - hurray!
Oh and let's not forget, now he gotta defeat the Final Boss by stabbing himself. It won't hurt, the World Tree says...? WHY DON'T I BELIEVE YOU (Also the Sealed God made sure everyone saw everything, nice going there you son of a-!)
And just when the whole thing with the White Star and the Sealed God gets resolved, the HUNTERS SHOW UP, BECAUSE WHY THE HELL NOT
And now Cale gotta go around MORE UNIVERSES to solve ALL OF THEIR PROBLEMS. ..... H o w n i c e
To shortly sum all of Cale's traumatic experiences:
Bodysnatched: x2
Cursed with loneliness and misfortune
Orphaned
Abused
Lived in poverty
Target of attempted assassination (also used as bait for assassins)
Had his head tampered with
Lived through an apocalypse
Trapped under a building (hello potential claustrophobia!)
Starved
Chased down by monsters
Bullied
Survivor's guilt: x2
Betrayed by allies
Forced into leadership
*Body dysphoria due to scars (forgot to mention that earlier)
Impostor syndrome: x2 (for both becoming the Team Leader and becoming Cale Henituse)
Judged for coping mechanisms
Regularly gets hurt and falls into coma
Near death experiences: x[INFINITE]
Forced to experience his worst nightmare
Forced into self-harm
Forced to save the world: x? (at least 3 times and the counter is still rising!?)
Basically, this man's life maybe have gotten better in the past 2 years... but his life is still hell 😅
(I blame you, God of Death – WHY would you consider reincarnation a good punishment?? And a CONTAGIOUS CURSE which affects the victims of your target!? This is all your fault.
...But mostly the Hunters' fault, obviously.)

the ending was amazing. did not see it coming at all. i can see this go two ways, one vastly preferable. maybe theyre gonna throw the gender card in now. and even if they dont, the situation is so twisted and fucked already, i mean, the king is waiting for an opportunity to find proof of high treason. and now he has both of his most favourite (deragatory) officials entrapped in a very conspicious situationship that screams evidence of high treason. even if they dont throw the gender card in yet (or ever!) theyre kinda fucked. personally i hope theyre gonna use this chance to explore homosexuality at the royal palace in ancient korea. without making it easy for themselves and throwing the gender card in as a last-minute #nohomo. it could go either way really. there is no narrative reason to throw the gender card in yet, it would be a heteronormative stunt that ive seen crossdressing stories pull a hundred thousand times before. it would be weak, poor writing. but so far, this show has proven that it is not interested in making it easier for anyone. everytime there was a chance to make things easier, they instead went for a direction that made everything worse (appreciative). so even if they throw the gender card in yet, its gonna be a hell of a ride

Hello there, so this isn't my usual "what do I think of the latest chapter I read" update but acctualy an update on the "Who tf is Jason ???" Theories I'm having.
Now I'll be real , irl friends told me I should post this on here this when I talked to them about it. It's pretty small compared to my usual theories.
So, I'm sure everyone remembers that weird SPQR shirt and tattoo he has which I couldn't figure out ? Well I know that know.
My friends and I went to an museum about the roman empire, and apperantly SPQR is a roman emblem or motto of sorts that they had back in the day.
So, my proposal ? Jason's a normal human but like, a Rome Fanboy. I don't ses any reason for a shapeshifter to have a roman motto on his shirt and as a tattoo on his arm.
I do however have met enough rome fanboys to say that yeah, that's a possibility. I mean having a demigod arrive at camp halfblood that didn't get the memo that this is greek themed and not roman would be sort of funny.
That tattoo still is a weird thing to do though so... eh, weird fanboy behaviour maybe ? I have seen enough rome fanboys online and in my history classes to say that yeah, some of them would probably get a rome tattoo if they could. Or alternativley Jason found comfort in roman culture perhabs ? If we go back to my very first theory maybe he was abel to pass as human and did relatively late at camp Halfblood.
He could have found himself drawn to ancient history, but instead of going greek he went roman since the Roman Empire is more popular than Ancient Greece with boys (atleast going by the fanboys/history nerds I know) He, in that case, probably made is SPQR shirt himself then.
ALTERNATIVLEY, (and this is gonna sound REALLY weird, just hear me out plz)
maybe he's just from some wacky offbrand Camp Halfblood that's Rome themed. Like, Camp SPQR maybe ? It does seem a bit like a sort of camp shirt to me.....
Then again there's even less proof of a whole second camp than there was on my other theories. Really just that his shirt has the vibe of a Camp Halfblood shirt but roman. And apropros roman, what reason would there be for a roman demigod camp if all the demigods come from GREEK gods ! What reason would the camps have to not be in contact with eachother ? Wouldn't it be more logical to establish a good network and relationships among each other in case something happens with one ? Jason would have to be from the Roman North Korea of the demigod world. How would that come into the stories ? Wouldn't they have to be some sort of antagonists then ? (Not opening that can of worms today) Writting this all out on a second thought, this theory seems even more outlandish than before. Then again, I pulled a Long Lost Twin Brother and Shapeshifter theory so eh. So yeah, that's where I am on the Jason topic right now. Either he's some weird rome fanboy, or from Roman North Korea 👍 (Please mark any spoilers in your replies/reblogs, I'm currently on chapter 6 of Sea of Monsters)

Worldbuilding: Conquering the Map
Okay, someone needs to do a Grand Epic Fantasy where the Evil Overlord... has some trouble conquering exactly where he intends to, because he doesn’t have a good enough map.
No, really. This has happened. Probably multiple times through history. “Ramses invading Syria, that was an accident,” isn’t just a bit of dialogue from The Mummy.
If you read ancient history, there were claims of him “accidentally” invading that bit of territory. Right, right, and he accidentally had scouts sent ahead to bury water supplies in the desert so his guys could force-march through, could’ve happened to anybody....
But let’s take an example closer to modern time, with a bit more of an accessible historical record. Say, the Imjin War. AKA Toyotomi Hideyoshi deciding to give all of Korea six long years of Very Bad Days. Salt in the wound, there, was that he mostly wanted Korea as a stepping stone to invading and conquering all of Asia, and Europe on top of that. Well, that and seizing their ginseng and falcons. No, really, he had teams of samurai out capturing goshawks and other birds of prey everywhere the Japanese forces went. Takagari (hunting with hawks, or as we call it falconry) being important for samurai showing off to other samurai. And especially important given Hideyoshi had started out as a common soldier. You can guess that even after he became shogun, the other samurai never let him forget he wasn’t noble blood....
Back to the maps. And confusion thereof. Apparently Hideyoshi had been planning the invasion for well over a decade, but he had Problems. At least one of them being that he originally intended to invade Korea and China by way of Ezo (modern name, Hokkaido). Under the impression there was a land bridge that way leading to Sakhalin Island and Manchuria.
Reality? Noooot so much.
What’s kind of amusing is that he seems to have gotten this idea from a European map of the area. Instead of, you know, asking the sailors.
(OTOH he may have been studying his history, and the Ainu did invade the Yuan Empire in the 1300s. Thing was, they were living on the coast of Manchuria at the time!)
In the 1590s, though, Hideyoshi did visit Ezo, and spoke to the domain lords... who apparently very carefully set him straight on where the island did not lead to. The elder lord, Kakizaki Suehiro (they only took the family name Matsumae later, when they switched allegiance to Tokugawa Ieyasu) even sent sea otter furs from the Ainu to help keep invading soldiers warm.
Who knows? That made have made significant difference to which soldiers lived and died. Korea is a cold place to invade.
....It’s still not land-linked to Japan, though.
Come on, someone take this and run with it. “I shall invade the Kingdom of the Moon, wipe out their royalty, imprison their Chosen One, and Rule the World!”
“...Now, which pass did we need to take again?”
Enter the one that leads to a cranky dragon’s lair....

My first Samsung non-genuine item (w/ my Paper Dolls) [Nov 30th, 2023]
DeviantART Version → [CLICK ME!].
Hello. It is time to share my first experience encountering fake memory storage, particularly "Samsung". I've already tackled a "non-genuine Samsung 870 EVO Solid State Drive", from October 2023. ☝️😮 Now, let's tackle the micro-size memory format of the "non-genuine Samsung EVO Plus SDXC TF Card", and find out what are the details between their "Genuine" and "Fake" Samsung Micro SD Cards, like the SSD before. 🙂
BTW: If you haven't seen my aforementioned "fake Samsung SSD", then please click here. ↓ • My FAKE Samsung 870 EVO Solid State Drive Review [feat. my Paper Dolls] (Recorded: Oct 13th 2013)
So, without further ado, let's get started:
1st Image: ↑
• Alright so, on your left was my genuine Samsung EVO 64GB Micro SD card 👈, which is still functional after 8 years inactive. And this is actually my expandable storage for my old Samsung Galaxy S4 phone [GT-I9505] 📱, which went blacked out the touch screen, in August of 2020. Man, I missed that phone, so much. Then again, my phone was already ancient, as all smartphone brands of this 2020-ish have improved their specs, memory, features, and more than before. And on your right was my first non-genuine Samsung brand of Micro SD Card; the 👉 EVO Plus 128GB, old version. This thing was ordered on Jun 27th, 2020 (from Lazada PH 🇵🇭🛒🌐) for ₱ 378.50 [CLICK ME!], and you can see why there are some red flags on this old EVO PLUS wannabe. 🟥 Also, as of 2023, it was already out of stock, permanently when the new looked Samsung flash memory cards was out on store shelves, both physical and digital. Not to mentioned, new security features was added to prevent counterfeit ones. So, let's bring down the details between these two Micro SD Cards, shall we?
• First: the letters. They're both identical to "Samsung" brand 🔠, but don't mind their colors and their quantity of memory sizes, as well as others. Since I don't have the original 128 GB of an old EVO Plus, I'm settle in with my owned 64 GB EVO. 🟩👍 The new EVO Plus, BTW, and other Micro SD cards have already improved their appearance, since 2021. However, that's where their identical end because on the fonts of "128 EVO" we're bold over the genuine counterpart's thin fonts. 🟥👎 Also, the "Samsung" brand on the fake one was slightly different from the genuine one. 🟥👎
Tumblr media
2nd Image: ↑
• Second: the materials. Genuine Samsung micro SD cards had a distinct while line, both old and new appearances. Making it their signature unique look 🟩👍 compared to the rest of the memory brands and counterfeit ones on the same format size. And speaking of, this counterfeit Samsung Micro SD card didn't have that unique appearance, as you could see a solid black line was spot on right through our eyes. 🟥👎 As for their materials, they're both identical albeit the fake one was used as a cheap generic one 🟥👎 instead of Samsung's genuine material circuitry process.
Tumblr media
3rd Image: ↑
• Third: the numbers/codes. Another Genuine Samsung micro SD card was the numbers codes facing different approaches (rotating upward) compared to the counterfeit ones. 🟩👍 And for the latter was using generic number codes, that already existed by numerous copycat micro SD card clones. Or something... 🟥👎 I mean, c'mon. Take a look at your right side. We've already seen it, many times, if you're a memory SD card enthusiast (of course). Unlike the Samsung memory brands they create and generate different unique number codes per memory card, and even serial numbers to prevent fake versions of their memory brands. And uhh... Did I mention, that Samsung's flash memory cards are "Made in Philippines"? 🇵🇭🟩👍 Heck yeah! #PusoPinoy, baby! 😁❤️💙💛 If you see that via the microscopic device, you know that your purchased Samsung EVO micro SD cards are 100% Genuine! Though, sometimes they're "Made in Korea" 🇰🇷 (more specifically "South Korea"), so that counts, too. 🙂🟩👍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1st & 2nd Screenshots: ↑
• And Finally: Transfer read/write speed test & Experience used. A genuine flash memory card brand from the likes of Samsung, Sandisk, Lexar, and many more can deliver a fairly high speed/write rate. From a standard 100 MB/s to a massive 200 MB/s, the latter was for 1TB (to sometimes 2/4TB) SDXC cards (which are very expensive price tags). No matter what you choose, that depends on your budget. But at least, the quality of the flash memory brand could satisfy your experience, and their lifetime could last long. But, what about the fake ones? Could they have the same quality treatment? Well, as you can see, using the trusty "Crystal Disk Mark" software and my trusty UGREEN USB Card Reader plugging through the USB 3.0 port 🪟 🖥️, the counterfeit Samsung EVO Plus (128GB) didn't pass the potential transfer speed. 🟥👎 Only a "Genuine" EVO Plus of Micro SD cards should deliver "Up to 100MB/s Read and 60MB/s Write speed with Class 10 and U3 compatibility". And speaking of, my Genuine EVO 64GB passed the quality speed test, and according to their official website, it delivers "Up to 100MB/s Transfer speed with Class 10 and U1 compatibility". Sure, it may not deliver the 100 MB/s given that my old EVO marks 8 years of functionality, but it's good enough for me to transfer my precious files onto my EVO SDXC card without a single corrupt file (as of 2023). 🟩👍 On the other hand, the fake one had already suffered corrupted files in any format, since October of 2023. 🟥👎 My mom was using it, and she was devastated by lost snapshots. So, she decided to buy a different brand with an equal standard quality as my old Samsung EVO.
Tumblr media
4th Image: ↑
• So, you two. Did you see who is the legit Samsung memory card brand? And their saying "Yes, it is the orange card one!" Indeed it is. 😁
Overall:
• After we've seen some differences and a short speed test, it concludes, that this Samsung 128 GB EVO Plus Micro SD Card was a wannabe memory card brand, or as I said a "non-genuine" one. So, the question was, did I refund my E-Cash after showing off some red flags on that fake Micro SD Card? 🤔 Well, yes! It was a success 🙂, and I decided to buy a different decent brand called "Strontium". As of today, I'm still using the 256 GB on my Honor 8C phone [CLICK ME!], and my 64 GB now acting as a thumb drive with my trusty card reader! (UGREEN) Without hiccups or a single malfunction on these two, whatsoever. 😊 So, as I said before and I could say it for counterfeit items, "Never judge an item by its seller". ☝️😯
Well, that's the end of my topic. The last topic will be something to save. Coming this December of 2023. 😊

Oh my goddd thank you so so much :DD I don't celebrate the new lunar year but I truly appreciate this ask, it made me laugh how the person looked so serious while throwing the wrapped money. This single-handedly made me want to research the history of red envelopes and guess what?? It’s a tradition to give your friends and family bright red envelopes filled with money. But it’s not about the money — it’s all about the envelopes. They symbolize good wishes and luck for the year ahead. With today’s technology, many people have exchanged digital red envelopes instead of traditional paper ones.
The tradition comes from an old story about a demon, Sui, who would terrorize children on New Year’s Eve. Parents would try to keep their children awake by giving them eight coins to play with. Inevitably, many of the children would fall asleep, and the coins (eight immortals in disguise) would light up and drive the demon away. The envelope is now symbolic of the coins.
The amount of money never includes the number 4 because the Chinese pronunciation of “four” sounds like the word for death.
It’s the biggest holiday in Asian culture
The Lunar New Year is the oldest and most important holiday in China — and it’s also celebrated in countries like Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam. Over 2 billion people celebrate the holiday around the world.
It’s also called the Spring Festival
Even though winter weather is still around, the Lunar New Year is also called the Spring Festival. The holiday welcomes the beginning of spring. The traditional Chinese Lunar Calendar originated about 4,000 years ago and was created to divide the year into seasons for agriculture. Because the new year falls around the time the sun is entering a position to start a gradual warming, many farmers will start planting crops – signifying the beginning of spring, which is one of the ways the holiday was also dubbed the Spring Festival.
Many traditions – like wearing the color red – started from an ancient legend about a monster
According to Chinese legends, a beast named Nian would devour villagers on New Year’s Eve. Many traditions are linked to the “Guo Nian,” which means surviving Nian’s attack. For example, legend has it that many people tried to ward off Nian with food, but wearing red is what ultimately drove the monster away. It’s also why fireworks are a big part of traditions – the sound is said to scare off evil spirits.
The dates change every year
Many Chinese rulers debated the start of the festival, and for years, the dates went back and forth. It finally was decided that it should follow the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. This marked the beginning of the festival as the first new moon of the year and ends will the full moon, which is 15 days (about 2 weeks). This means it can fall anywhere between Jan. 21 and Feb. 21. And this year it seemed to be the tenth. Lastly, did you know that the fireworks aren’t just to make the sky sparkly??
The story of Nian isn’t just about wearing red to scare the monster away. Traditional Chinese culture also used fireworks to frighten the evil spirits. In China, fireworks will go off at different times depending on the region, but the most common times include when the reunion dinner is ready, at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day, again in the morning of the new year and the last day of celebration.

books I've read in 2023 so far, as of July
Den lodande människan - Patrik Svensson: loved it, could not have started my year with a better book. 5/5
Sveket - Birgitta Trotzig: became severely depressed during the three days I read this in (had to read fast for school), seriously affected my wellbeing and mental health and the way I viewed the world. when it ended it felt like waking up from a nightmare, the relief of realizing there is beauty in the world because there was none in this book. ???/5
Watership Down - Richard Adams: read swedish translation. love, just love. I found the Efrafa arc weird and misplaced in this book about rabbits though, very strange. 4/5
Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad: read this after I watched Apocalypse Now because I loved the film, and I think the film made me like the book more. also the first classic I read in a while and I think thats part of why I liked the writing so much. extremely racist even though its supposed to be like, anti colonial commentary? but I suppose it was in its time. 4/5
Annihilation - Jeff Vandermeer: swedish translation. I watched the movie a few years ago and ive been wanting to read this since. and im glad I did because I did like it but idk im sensing a theme here like maybe I shouldn't have read swedish translation instead of original language in some cases. cause I liked this but maybe I wouldve liked it more in english? idk.. like 3.5-4/5 though
Circe - Madeline Miller: I really liked this one. reading this in front of the fireplace, immersing myself in another world. I loved living in the Ancient Greece and greek myths for some time, I really felt I was there. I don’t know how Miller did it but she really conveyed the feeling of immortality, I really felt I was living through centuries alongside Circe and the feelings that come with that. thats why the ending was so perfect. Odysseus was the best part tho. 4.5/5
The River Between - Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o: read up on the topic of FGM in Africa on the side as I was reading this. a very interesting and also gruesome, eye opening experience. what stays with me is the total darkness of the nights, really pierced through my soul. 4/5
Dear Edward - Ann Napolitano: swedish translation. my grandma gave this to me and told me to read it because she read it and wanted to hear what I thought, I never would have read it otherwise. it wasnt really my thing but I do like airplanes and airplane crashes as a plot, so that was the stuff I took away from the story, the rest kind of just went through me. but im kind of happy I read this book just for that reason because that part really affected me. also the conclusion was more touching than the rest of the book, which felt kinda detached. 2.5/5 for the book, 4.5/5 for airplane stuff (my post i make the rules)
1Q84 - Haruki Murakami: swedish translation (ive read all my Murakami books in swedish, since the original language isnt english and also because i like it). some parts I really really loved and were some of my fav elements of any murakami book. but this was not my favorite. overall I liked it, though. actually loved the experience of reading this because i always love reading murakami due to the meditative descriptions of daily chores combined with surrealism, and this one was extra long and repetitive so i loved that. also was interesting cause I looked up the cult events its inspired by so that was interesting too. this one had a bit more surreal/fantasy elements than his other stuff ive read I think? which was nice also. 4/5
If I had your face - Frances Cha: im glad I read it. a good insight into the reality of women in South Korea. not perfect but i feel this book succeeded in what it aimed to be. 3/5
Eileen - Ottessa Moshfegh: swedish translation. i dont really know how to feel about it, really. honestly, I dont even know what to say. this left my head kind of empty, which... may not be a good thing.. could be a poor translation, if i read another of her books ill read in english. 2.5/5
The Song of Achilles - Madeline Miller: read this hoping to get more Odysseus but there wasnt a lot. Honestly not a huge fan of this book, Circe was so much better. what rlly irked me was Miller sugarcoating some aspects of these war criminals, more specifically the rapes/sex slaves — yet keeps some things in as if they were essential. More specifically, Patroclus sleeping with that girl i cant remember the name of, for god knows what reason, it was such an unpleasant read and she had to write this so much more explicitly and drawn out than any sex scene between Patroclus and Achilles? That pissed me off and genuinely I felt it was so ugly of Patroclus because that was cheating. If it was meant to be read as asssault thats worse because that woman is literally a rape victim (of Achilles) in the canon. Very distasteful to turn a rape victim into a rapist for fanfiction fantasy. Circe was Miller’s apology to women for writing this book. 3/5
Klara and the Sun - Kazuo Ishiguro: swedish translation. My first Ishiguro. I found the conversations between characters unnatural and unempathetic, the latter especially when aimed at Klara. It is established that Klara has feelings to some degrees and yet is treated as someone who does not, and yet they characters are not supposed to be viewed as unlikeable? This threw me off and also put me off the whole book. But I really liked the character and perspective of Klara, she was my favorite part of this book. I thought it was kind of brilliant to be in Klara’s brain, but felt sorry for her due to her treatment. It frustrated me how much love and care she had for Josie and the others for almost no reason since they were never very kind or caring in turn to her or likable on their own. Her loyalty was almost pitiful, like that of an abused pet or child. The whole replacing Josie thing is so un-human I can’t even fathom these characters aren’t supposed to be viewed as something else than dystopically post-human! (Are they meant to be viewed as that? Unclear) Who could ever replace their child with a robot, an inherently selfish act, they can not possibly believe they would somehow be reviving Josie for anyone else’s sake than their own? Josie would not live on, she would still be dead. So it would be for themselves to play pretend, and it’s completely bizarre. I can’t believe this wasn’t even the moral dilemma. The whole ”something essential that can’t be replaced” is one discussion and it was handled quite weakly, but obviously even if Klara learns all there is about Josie, and is able to ”become” her, the same Josie will not have been born again to experience it. She would be a clone who ACTS like Josie, at most. She would have ”learnt all the rooms of her heart” but she wouldn’t be her, she would only copy. But no one cares about that, only whether Klara can become her clone or not. Including the father who is more critical about it seems to think it would be fine to clone his daughter and act like she is the same one, if it ever would work. could be the translator who sucks? Debating if i should read any more Ishiguro. 2/5
Lucy - Jamaica Kincaid: this is my second Kincaid, I love her writing. love it, gorgeous. she is straight forward, conveys so strongly, vividly. 4.5/5
The colorless Tsukuru Tazaki - Haruki Murakami: swedish translation. you know what, I think anyone complaining about this book should take an extra look at the cover. you’re reading murakami, this is what you get. that said, I do think this is one of his weaker attempts of his tried standard formula, ive seen him do better. I do feel like the prose was a little new, experimental maybe? Which was interesting. also not enough homoerotica. 3/5

Top 5 TV series!
I forgot I put that 'top five' thing into my queue and wasn't sure what prompted this message until I scrolled back through my blog.
Thanks for the ask, anon! I hope you're ready for some unpopular (and very dated) picks.*
5. Art Attack
Tumblr media
Look, I was a lonely kid. For much of my childhood it was just me and my brother... and this very keen British man who taught me how to turn scrap paper, paint, and foil into my own spaceship cockpit. Ideas from this show allowed me to decorate my room as a kid, got me through high school art class, and saved my arse several times when I was a kindergarten teacher in South Korea.
One of the best informational programmes ever made. They should bring it back.
4. Air Crash Investigation
Tumblr media
I'm sorry. I know it's cheap. I know it's tacky. I know all that. But I love this show. I love learning about and solving mysteries that aren't murders (sorry Sherlock), and the terrible acting makes it so much better. I can't watch this show with people, because I always try to guess the cause of the crash before the end of the episode and yell it out... and I don't know anything about planes to I'm usually very wrong.
Example:
Me: "It's the bulkhead! Check the bulkhead, you fools!"
Voice over: "The investigators check the bulkhead, but find nothing."
Me: "Yes! Because it's clearly the wings, like I've been saying all along."
3. Justice League Animated Series
Tumblr media
I got into this series really late. I'd just moved out of home for the first time to go to film school and was having a hard time making friends. I don't know how it happened, but I somehow ended up watching the entirety of the DC Animated Universe during that time, which is impressive, because internet was expensive and terrible where I was living, so I had to go to the library, download episodes, and walk the 45 minutes home carrying my massive old laptop. It was a feat, but it was worth it. This show did what the Avengers couldn't, made me love superheroes.
2. Yu-Gi-Oh!
Tumblr media
When I was 12 I was the best Yugioh player in my school. Sure, it wasn't a big school, and not everyone was into the game, but it was still a big deal for me, especially as I was also the only girl who played. The game has since evolved way beyond my skill level, but at the time, I was a god among mortals. 12 year old mortals, but still. I got up early every morning to see the latest episode, and then I went to school ready to d-d-d-d-duel.
Xena: Warrior Princess
Tumblr media
I'm sorry. This show is just so nostalgic for me. For a while, I grew up on a farm with no actual TV signal, but we did have old VHS recordings of Xena and I watched it religiously. Lucy Lawless is amazing and this show is forever the best thing to come out of the 90s (and I say that while also, myself, being a product of the 90s). It has:
Monsters
Magic
Mayhem
Queer Love (not explicitly stated, but this wasn't queerbaiting, this was censorship, they were a couple by the mid point of the series, they just couldn't say it, so instead they made a lot of unsubtle sex jokes and came up with obscure reasons why they always had to kiss to save the world).
Aotearoa (New Zealand is the most beautiful place on the planet, I'm sorry if you disagree, you are wrong).
Tonal whiplash (not just between episodes, but sometimes in the same episode, and it was wild)
One very horny vampire episode
Xena can sometimes fly without any explanation
They met an early reincarnation of Jesus and he was a conman living in India?
You know that scene where Character A gets hurt and Character B goes absolutely feral? This.
Leather bikinis and ninja kicks except it's ancient Greece, maybe
The musical episode was the best episode
They fight on ladders a lot and I just think that's neat
*Disclaimer: I am into more modern and normal things but I'm in a nostalgic mood, so these are the things you get to hear about today.

"At what point in history do you think we decided to shift from skirts to pants? Like, I know we went from being dicks out to the whole skirt deal or something .. like that .. but like, who said 'hey, someone zip that shit up' and decided we had to start wearing pants instead?"
✨ @sooperdark a lesson you did not ask for.
Tumblr media
❝Pants have been around since, like, ancient China. And, overall, I'm pretty sure pants date back to the Paleolithic times, but don't quote me on that. It's been years since I've taken a History of Dress and Fashion course. They were the norm for some societies, some didn't gel with that shit. Like, ancient Greeks kind of sneered at trousers being worn by Persians and Middle Easterners, finding them ridiculous. And, if you go back to Medieval Korea, skirts were worn underneath them. Some cultures let everyone wear pants, while some did not. So, the answer to your question is: it just depends on cultural reference.❞
In the hazy dimness of the kitchen, the glow of a half-done sunset streaming through the windows, Virote held a lighter to the tip of the joint pressed between his teeth, the ember quickly catching hold of it. ❝I just bought a cute skirt from Diesel, so I'm enjoying myself. Anyway, did that answer your question?❞ Well. Did it?

Though still only in her 40s, Germany Kent is an award-winning journalist, activist, beauty queen, producer, business leader, philanthropist, and author of the best-selling series of “Hope Handbooks.” She’s been around enough to have learned some of life’s great truths and is frequently quoted, this being among her wisest advice: “It is more important to go slow and gain the lessons you need along the journey than to rush the process and arrive at your destination empty.”
The great playwright and poet Molière famously pointed out the negative of the same theme: “Unreasonable haste is the direct road to error.” Or as DaVinci put it, “Learn diligence before speedy execution.” Oh, how we wish politicians had that same ancient wisdom. Instead, they commonly rush headlong into requiring things that don’t work, mandating technology that is yet untested, and pushing policies whose long-term consequences are unknown.
At least three times in the last decade, EPA has attempted to force compliance with an emission standard for which there is no known technology. But the best example imaginable is the worldwide rush, by governments on every continent, to force the manufacture and purchase of electric vehicles. Before there is a market for such vehicles, before the public is ready, before the technology is fully developed, before there is any supporting infrastructure.
Governments have pursued the electric car dream with various combinations of tax incentives, disincentives, grants, loans, and even directly banning internal combustion engines by specified dates. Dozens of countries have enacted such strategies, including the U.S., Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, India, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Australia, and the entire European Union.
Auto makers around the globe responded predictably – in that highly competitive industry they all want the subsidies. So, they ramped up electric vehicle production, made grand promises to go all or mostly electric. Several even invested in charging stations the way Ford invested in roads in the 1920s. But something went wrong. Several years into their committed timelines, they discovered that the public is not playing. At least not to the extent hoped.
Rather, electric vehicle sales are growing far slower than planned, and manufacturers are reaching the conclusion that most buyers just don’t want these cars. It isn’t because people hate the idea of electric cars – it’s that the technology and infrastructure are just not there yet. And whatever politicians want, people are not about to give up their cars, which for most people represent not only transportation, but the freedom to come and go as they please.
How have auto companies reacted to this dearth of public interest? They have begun to scale back production, in some cases dramatically. Mercedes-Benz had pledged to become fully electric by 2030, calling its highly publicized strategy “the economics of desire.” But in May Mercedes cited a sales slump in rolling back that promise, now saying it will make gas-powered cars “well into the 2030s.” The company CEO said simply that, “the transformation might take longer than expected.” In France, Renault announced it was postponing the highly touted launch of its electric car business, Ampere. In Britain, Astin Martin has scaled back its electric vehicle production. In Germany, the government had pressured Porsche to build more electric cars, and the company had promised to be 80 percent electric by 2030. But by the first half of this year, sales had fallen 51 percent, and the company backed away, now saying future production will depend on consumer demand and technology improvements. Notably, Volkswagen announced a year ago it would invest $193 billion in electric production, battery factories, and even building charging stations across Europe. Within two months, it “introduced measures to temporarily scale back production of electric models” and laid off 300 workers. By the end of 2023, production was scaled back at its two main German plants and the government cancelled electric car subsidies.
American car companies are seeing the same problems and responding the same way. General Motors has cut electric vehicle production targets, and Tesla stock has fallen because of declining sales. Ford is reportedly “retrenching,” cutting $12 billion in spending on electrics, delaying the introduction of new models, and shrinking its investment in battery plants.
If the technologies were dependable and the markets solid, taxpayers would not have to subsidize electric cars. Certainly not in such a rush. The British statesman and renowned 18th century wit, Lord Chesterfield, wrote, “Whoever is in a hurry shows that the thing he is about is too big for him.”
