For anyone reading this I’m about to just explain the entire plot of every episode 💪

Okay so I’m on episode six of season one (there’s three seasons) I think I’m just gonna kinda sum it up by episode

So Will Graham teaches forensics at a college, but he also works with Jack Crawford, an fbi agent who does a lot of csi work. Will is known for his skills in being able to put himself in the killers shoes to figure out their methods and motives. He basically closes his eyes, imagines himself as the killer, and explains it all out to Jack. He’s also high key undiagnosed autistic (the mentioned it in the show, too), they also call in a psychiatrist and doctor, Hannibal Lecter.

So there’s this case of girls going missing, they’re all the same demographic and they all look really similar. They’re being impaled on stag antlers, and the guy is removing organs (and eating them) and Will comes to look around. They find out who the guy is, and go to his house. But before they leave to go there, hannibal calls the man and warns him about the fact they’re coming. When they get there, he’s killed his wife and is about to kill his daughter, Abigail Hobbs (around 18 yrs old I think) He slashed part of her neck before Will shot him (10ish times actually) and then will and hannibal take care of Abigail and get her to safety. Turns out, the guy was a hunter and claimed he needed to honor every part of the deer he caught. Pelts, knives from the bones, all that and the meat. He killed the girls because they all looked like Abigail and they all want to one of the colleges she applied to (he really didn’t want her to leave)

As for the cannibalism part, that was him ‘honoring’ every part of them

And now idk if this part happened in episode 1 or 2, but there’s a copycat killer, who struck after garret jacob Hobbs (1st killer) died. He displayed the girl on a stags antlers in the middle of a field, but he wasn’t really honoring her like garret thought he was. It was more disrespectful (I might be wrong on the details on this bc of the next part)

So it cuts to Will, teaching one of his classes (2nd ep) where he’s talking about the copycat killer. He’s mentioning how the killer wanted the fbi to know it was a one time thing, and a sort of symbol. And it pans over the Jack, Hannibal, and another fbi member, Beverly, watching his lecture. And then hannibal starts smiling and it’s revealed (I think! Im a little hazy on the details) that hannibal was the copycat killer. He was all smiley bc Will was catching on to the details and the messages he was trying to send.

Hi, so I saw an amv about Chase and at one point they briefly show the moment where he’s being “tortured” by having water drip on his head and his abs painted mustard yellow. I presume that the water dripping is a reference to Chinese water torture but I’m absolutely confused about what the stomach painting could mean. Thoughts? I like your blog ☺️

Ah, yes. TAT arc. Oh boy, there are many things to unpack in the ‘heylins’ prison cell’ scene. Let's dwell into this.

It is evident that Wuya, Bean and Chase are put in chains or other types of constraint. They used to be powerful beings, so no wonder tat!jack took into consideration the possibility that they might at least try to escape at some point. However, Chase seems to be trapped in a machine which stranded him completely.

Hannibal is put in the cage, while Wuya is hanged by the handcuffs on the wall. Yes, they indeed are in a bad situation, but Chase is the only one being actively tortured.

You are right, Chase is the victim of the Chinese Water Torture. But there is more! Bloodstains on the floor? His limbs being stretched??? (simply torture rack -modern version but this one is only my assumption) Ouch, everything about this image is worrisome. And look at his hair! Undoubtedly, it is shorter. Jack frickin Spicer has cut mighty Chase Young’s hair. And as we know, in China cutting hair is regarded as a punishment or humiliation.

What is more, I think, getting rid of his armor was a way to make Chase uncomfortable. Who knows? Maybe it is a personal vendetta for that one time a tiger interrupted boy’s bath session and dragged almost-naked Jack in front of Chase and (ghost!)Wuya (dangerous minds ep)?

And finally, the last element of the elaborate humiliating puzzle set up by the new Prince of Darkness Jack Spicer – the brush that helps spread a yellowish liquid on Chase’s torso.

My first guess – that’s Lao Mang Long Soup. Jack holds a grudge towards his ex-partners in crime so big, he wouldn’t care to visit them tbh. Jackbots handle feeding the prisoners, although the immortality soup is a separate case.

I reconsidered the following thing: is drinking the soup the only way for the body to take advantage of its miraculous effects? Can it be absorbed through the skin? What if Jack found out the answer to the latter question? And that answer is: yes, it can be absorbed through the skin but it would take a veeery long time for it to enter the digestive (and then the circulatory) system. As a consequence, the bearer of the soup curse would be weakened due to drinking less than it is needed but they would NOT die because the body receives small doses of Lao Mang Long.

Therefore, Chase has his stomach painted only to keep him alive for a while, that is, until The Prince of Darkness gets bored. But it is unlikely to happen mostly because the Heylins are like trophies to Jack.

So, this was my take on that mustard yellow substance. It could make sense because the show didn’t give us any specifics on how Lao Mang Long works except for the following factors: changes you into a monster, increases strength and thinking immortality deal.

However, I refuted this little theory of mine when I read the Tumblr post about the TAT timeline. Someone suggested that in the USA yellow stands for cowardice and in such a way Jack keeps reminding Chase that he is a coward. (in such moments I really want to know what the hell happened in those 80 something years bc WOW JACK that is a pretty thought-through scheme right there). Additionally, as I recall, the soup was more greenish rather than yellow, so it can’t be Lao Mang Long (unless Jack added a yellow pigment or sth)

Coming back to the symbolism of the yellow color, in the western culture the phrase “yellow-bellied”—a term for those who are cowardly—may have originated from chickens (“Don’t be a chicken”) and the rich yellow of their egg yolk, as this site reports. And well, it makes sense because it is so Jack to do the chicken dance to make his enemies angry.

On the other hand, some may argue that XS show has many references taken from the Chinese culture, that is why the Chinese meaning of the color yellow should be taken into consideration.

In China Yellow is a royal color. It symbolizes imperiality, the power of the throne, and prosperity. As a result, yellow is associated with Emperor or Buddhism (temples having yellow elements, etc)

What if Chase is an Emperor of the Heylin side? He used to be the big bad and even Jack’s evil hero. Maybe Jack by that belly painting meant something like:

‘Hey, you were on the top, now I am! You should’ve taken me as an apprentice but NO! You were always looking down on me and look where it got you! Your empire is mine. But, y’know that little part of me still respects you, so here, have some yellow paint! Oh, and sorry about the hair I was angry at you xoxo'

So, in short, Jack honored Chase’s past accomplishments as the former Heylin King but implemented it as a kind of torture as well. Because, I guess, due to its repetitive nature (this brush goes on and on without stopping) I bet it has similar effects as the water torture.

Still, how I see it, the ambiguity about the meaning of the color yellow is something Jack would love. As we know, the boy genius pays attention to details. For me, Jack at this point of his life as an old man considers Chase as both hero and a coward, so he simply mixed the meanings of Chinese and western culture to show how smart he is.

Mind you, that the other Heylins are being mocked by Jack too. Hannibal Roy Bean has been renamed the Musical Fruit and Wuya wears an outfit of one of Jack’s cheerleaderbot. I wonder if it’s because she made fun of those girl-robots or the fact Wuya kept cheering and motivating Jack to hunt more and more wus for her, treating him like trash afterward. Oh, and Jack has cut her hair, too. ;u;

All things considered, the appearance of the Heylins is the proof that Jack punished them in the most sadistic way possible and Chase got an extra set of humiliating tortures because Jack’s resentment towards the warlord was so big, the genius had to design something „special” to show who is in charge now. And he wanted it to be personal.

Final Thoughts: This was an all about Freddie Lounds episode and I can’t say I’m mad about it. Her interest in Will is to the roof, we know she’s a sneaky smart liar who will do anything for the story, and considering how the rest of the series goes having a man killed in front of her doesn’t seem to phase her in the long run. Will was very handsome in this episode as was Jack and I wish I knew the timeline of all this because it’s two episodes but clearly more time has passed for the characters than just like two or three days. I think. I’m ready for the next disaster!!

I don’t remember if it was you, or another Hannibal blog, but I think you answered an ask about Jack and how some of the hatred for him in the Hannibal community is actually racist based. I’m rewatching the series with what you said in mind and I feel like Jack Crawford is a completely different character. The fandom is fast to say that Jack doesn’t care about Will’s mental health but he genuinely does (based off the first two episodes) despite some flaws on how he handles the situation!

I did talk about it some!! I’m not really the Ideal Person to talk about race issues bc I am white; it’s definitely more important to uplift voices of color on these issues whenever possible than to listen to what I have to say. However I don’t think it’s totally inappropriate for me to talk about my own perception of Jack as a character so I will do that, and I will encourage other white people to be critical of their own thinking with regard to him as people who have lived all our lives in a racist society

When I first watched the show, I didn’t like Jack. I thought he was shitty to Will and infantilized him a lot (that scene with Will’s glasses right at the beginning makes me cringe to this day), and I didn’t really care to look at him beyond that. But after spending some time in reflection about him, actually making myself look at him and think about his character, I think he’s really interesting, and really very good

He’s a complex character and he makes a lot of choices that we know to be wrong, but he cares so much about Will!!!! He cares about Will’s mental health a lot—that’s why he sends Will to Hannibal in the first place! The only reason he keeps pushing Will is because he doesn’t have an accurate perception of how poorly Will is doing, and towards the end of season one when he starts to see that Will is really losing it, he comes to him with concerns about whether Will should stop! When Will checks himself out of the hospital without having been diagnosed, Jack tells him to check himself back in!!

And in season two, as soon as Jack has any reason to believe Will is not the killer, he’s doing everything he can to care for and support Will!!! It’s not like Jack held a gun to Will’s head and said “honeytrap Hannibal”—that was entirely Will’s plan, and Will wanted to do it so he could get his revenge. Jack was just supporting him in that, because he had—and continuously, throughout the series, has—a great deal of faith in Will

He goes to Italy explicitly for Will’s sake, because even after Will has defected he still has that unshakable faith that Will is fundamentally a good man. He believes he put Will in a position to get this fucked up over Hannibal and he wants to do what he can to fix that, to save Will from that, and he firmly believes it can be done, despite Will’s repeated insistence that it can’t

It is shitty that he pulls Will back in in the Red Dragon arc, but from his perspective he had no choice. He’d let Will be gone for three years, had let countless people die over those years that in his mind Will could have saved, but this case was too brutal and terrible to allow to go on unchecked in that way and he knew he had to do everything he could to stop it, including things that he found personally upsetting to have to do. I firmly believe he felt awful about bringing Will back into this mess and I firmly believe he feels awful about what ended up happening with that for the rest of his life

And I can form that belief based both on his consistent insistence of care for Will and on the character of the man he is established to be through his relationships with the other characters in the show. This is a man of great moral conscience (unlike literally everyone else in the show??), who loves deeply and cares deeply about people he feels responsible for, but who will always put the greater good above his personal feelings and beliefs. He’s flawed and overly idealistic and sometimes makes very bad choices, but he is a good man in a way absolutely no other character on the show is

He’s a fascinating character and I love him and I wish more people took the time to do so instead of being blinded by Will’s discomfort with him and their own prejudices

Favourite episode and why: maybe this makes me mainstream but definitely mizumono.... i just think it does such a good job at building tension and then never really having that tension resolved since we dont know at the end of season 2 who survived and who didnt. it has some of the best dialogue and acting in the series too in my opinion

Least favourite episode and why: ummm i think the angel maker episode. not because its bad but just because it kind of drags a little in the middle of the first season and feels like other than wills and jacks fight at the end of the episode, it really has no bearing on the larger plot as a whole. also it still confuses me how the angel maker flayed off his own back and hung himself from a barn

Okay where to fuckin begin man... This novel was a fucking Shit Show, my dudes. It was like baby’s first fanfiction. 

Let’s just jump in, shall we? 

So by now, having read both Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs, I know Harris injects of lot of sexual shit into his novels, fine whatever, but the amount of pedophilia is insane. Like, Red Dragon with the grandmother threatening to cut his dick off by holding it in between scissors????? And then we have Mason Verger, worst human on the planet. Like jfc I’ll go into him specifically more later but just. Men. Why does it always have to be sexual. 

Like that time Clarice wasn’t wearing a bra and she wanted to prove to Paul Krendler she wasn’t wearing a wire so she flashed him her tits?? Unnecessary, Harris. Bullshit on all counts. 

Next, poor Ardelia Mapp. So he clearly wrote out her accent in Silence, which frankly reads racist since to me it seemed like he did it every time a character of color was met but he didn’t for Clarice’s Southern accent except for this book when she was talking to Ardelia. Now, that’d be a cool way to show how close they are, sure, but it just... She didn’t show up enough to warrant that reaction from me, plus all the other casually racist shit he throws in. 

Ardelia’s literally there as the wise Black best friend to help Clarice along. She doesn’t feel like her own character, she’s only there in conjunction with her, or doing something for her. She was the fucking valedictorian for Christ fucking sake, she also works at the Bureau but if her department was mentioned it was only once in passing. She was not a full character which fucking blows because she could’ve been so cool. 

And real quick before I forget, I hate how she’s treated in the end. I do like she gets a reference and that brainwashed Clarice sent her an emerald ring and a note saying she was okay, but Ardelia was abandoned by her best friend (that she had lived with) with not even a phone call and they will never see each other again and I think Ardelia knows it. It sucks and I’m heartbroken for this woman. 

I’m gonna touch a little bit on the racism too. Now I’m white and not the most qualified to talk about this shit, but I do wanna mention it because it makes me mad. There’s just so many unnecessary slurs, any POC is more of a background helper character to Clarice than anything or a foil. 

For example, Evelda Drumgo. She starts us off. Badass Black woman who runs a drug cartel. She chooses to shoot at Clarice and risk her baby’s life, and we have Clarice wash the baby off and save his life. Then Evelda’s mother is written as irrational when she slaps Clarice for visiting the baby in the hospital; I get Clarice’s impulse, but that woman just lost her daughter because Clarice killed her. I would’ve slapped Clarice too, even if it was a totally justifiable shot. 

The baby himself is used as a foil throughout other parts, most notably to me when Clarice goes to visit Mason the first time. There are two Black boys from a foster home playing in a room with a camera so Mason can watch them, and it shakes Clarice up a lil bit because of the baby, but it says she’s getting more used to it.

Now this is half and half well written and shoddy to me. It’d be a cool moment, if the whole incident wasn’t nearly completely forgotten for the rest of the book shortly afterword. It could show growth, if Clarice had any growth to show. 

And then the Romani people who are literally just used and thrown away. Sickening. Also very broadly used the stereotypes we hear which Sucks; the three we meet in any sort of depth are pickpockets, one was already in jail and Pazzi used his leverage as a police officer to get her to do what he wanted and threatened to have her baby taken away from her permanently, like it was just bad. And then the man got killed. Pazzi let him bleed out. Asshole. 

The slurs. I could take out all of them and pretty much have the same damn thing. Like I get showing negative aspects of characters and just because a character’s racist doesn’t mean the author is, but with the characters already being as shitty as they are, fully didn’t need it to make them worse. Entirely unnecessary. Racism or the character being racist has no impact on the plot is the major thing, I think. And you can replace that with anything along those lines, like sexist, homophobic, transphobic. It didn’t impact the plot, they can still be shitty, you just don’t need to use them. 

This also goes in reference to Margot being a lesbian. And the transphobia holy shit, it was disgusting. Harris had Clarice think something so cruel and unnecessary it’s like my guy why was that even remotely something we needed to hear. We didn’t. I wanted to stop reading because that’s not my Clarice, first and foremost, and second, this is supposed to be the character we LIKE. And now I don’t like ANYBODY in this damn book. 

And he treats Margot like shit too, and Barney. 

Their friendship was beautiful and great and finally for once something nice was happening in Margot’s life and I was happy reading it, and then FOR SOME REASON Margot goes to shower in the same room as Barney after a workout, which makes no sense, and then Barney tries to force a kiss on her (and he was hard, Harris made that very clear) and she had been sexually assaulted by Mason her brother and ruin the whole damn thing and none of it would have changed any other piece of the novel if you removed it!!!!!!!!! Entirely unnecessary!!!!!! And Barney had the gall to say well I couldn’t help myself like none of that was realistic in the slightest, she never would have went in the same room to shower with him. 

Something you need to do is basically get some suspension of disbelief from your reader and maintain and stretch that as you go, right? Well mine was gone at that moment.

Also side note Margot is basically just there to show how shitty Mason is for the umpteenth time. Her whole thing is lesbian sexual assault victim.

Also heavily implied she was a lesbian because of the sexual assault. And we rarely see Judy, her girlfriend, so. Bad. Bad all around. 

Circling back around to Clarice and how disappointing she is in the books as compared to the movies. Well, Clarice is also a poorly written character. She’s 1000x better in the movie. Hell, she’s even better in this book than she was in Silence, but that’s not fucking hard. 

Pretty much all the characters are so flat they don’t even classify as two dimensional. 

Like sure, maybe we wanna say Clarice didn’t really solve much in the first book and was just handed everything because she was a trainee and that’s what Hannibal wanted. 

Like if you remember the John Mulaney sketch of Delta Airlines where he’s just going “Okay!” and running to the next place he’s told, that’s Clarice. 

Okay so why does she get goaded into all this shit now? She should know better. She should know how to handle herself better. Like she messes up basic fucking shit like clearing a room before untying Hannibal, which was stupid, she seems oblivious to some of the politics at work even though she’s been in the FBI for like 7 years now, she would at least have more fucking contacts than Brigham who died in the beginning and Jack Crawford who died at the end by rolling over in his bed to his dead wife’s side and Ardelia who would be near the same level as Clarice I guess but I still don’t know her damn department???? Like you fucking network. 

Plus after her final fall from grace with the FBI, we meet or are told of random side characters that go no where and do nothing just to say “hey look at my special little girl, everyone likes her and looks up to her!!” Why? Because she caught Buffalo Bill 7 years ago and then never got a promotion or even worked with the BAU? Again, it does not make sense. People may pity her? But a random girl in the lab wouldn’t be fangirling. Starling herself said her career had gone nowhere because of the politics and not sleeping with Paul. You need to show me why she’s likable in her actions not others words. 

We spend more time away from her than with her anyways but Jesus. 

AND HER IN THE ENDING. She was fucking BRAINWASHED????? Bull FUCKING SHIT. He completely ruined anything he even remotely might’ve had in this cluster fuck of a novel. 

Case in point, difference from the movie, Hannibal spends weeks (possibly? it’s left purposefully vague and I’m guessing that’s because Harris didn’t know the ins and outs and wanted his novel done) meticulously brainwashing Clarice, he had stolen her father’s bones and she’s so far gone at that point she doesn’t care, and the whole scene where Paul is getting his brain eaten? Yeah, she happily indulges and when he insults her, she asks Hannibal for more. Fuck you, Thomas Harris. 

And Hannibal’s a Gary Stu, fucking fight me. 

In the movie he either is or he’s tap dancing on that line, don’t get me wrong, but in the novels it’s insufferable because it doesn’t seem earned. The pigs didn’t attack him because they didn’t smell fear on him. No. He’s easily able to drug and brainwash Clarice and take her as his lover. No. Go away. He’s so smart and one step ahead and can manipulate anyone and everyone into doing what he wants and blah blah blah shut up! A character being perfect isn’t interesting even if he’s evil!! We all know he’s never truly in danger because of how Harris writes him and that’s boring!! 

And I personally have a pet peeve where the villain is described as a monster or unstoppable. That’s boring and I no longer care about your story. I know 9 times out of 10 your main character is going to find a bullshit way around the impossible and kill it. Or it’s just like a default personality and nothing else is added to it. And that’s Hannibal. 

I’m on Hannibal Rising now and, spoiler alert, he’s very bland as a character. (Also Harris switched some details in the novel which kinda annoys me like get your own canon right my man but whatever.) The plot itself is pretty fun? I guess? Like there’s action and stuff and I’m enjoying that. But it’s the same set up where Harris’s Gary Stu always wins, like he was 13 in the book when he killed the butcher. Let. Your. Characters. Lose. 

Also even more racist shit but what did I expect really. 

Anyways, I have no idea who I’m supposed to root for in the novel because all the characters are just kinda shitty. It really just boils down to Harris not showing any redeeming qualities or actions from any of his characters. I liked Margot for a while out of spite but she never really went anywhere and the way she killed Mason (btw she sodomized him with a cattle prod to get his semen bc side plot and then stuffed his Moray eel down his throat and somehow I still don’t think that’s the worst part of the novel) just. No thanks really. 

All the random little side plots were also pretty not great. How many time does Harris have to say Pazzi of the Pazzis? Like I fucking get what you’re going for, even if I hadn’t watched the movie I’d be like, “Oh this dude’s gonna get hung outta that window, dope,” the literal first time. Stop treating your readers like idiots. 

And then Margot’s side plot was that the will their father left said she needed a biological heir to inherit because he was pissed she’s gay and we needed the homophobia I guess, so Mason got everything, and she was helping him with the Hannibal shit because he’s pretty incapacitated duh, and in return he would give her his jizz so Judy could be artificially inseminated and they could have a child and get some of her inheritance. I don’t care. It was all very gross, and Mason kept saying shit like suck me off you’ve done it before, I won’t be able to feel it anyway, maybe Judy’ll suck me off you think she’d like that. It’s all gross. 

And I guess this is a good a time as any to finally start on Mason. So a great rule of writing to make everything work better and give your story more depth is to give everyone both positive and negative traits right, even and especially the bad guys? Like, rules can always be broken if you’re a good enough writer, but I believe I have established that Harris isn’t quite there yet, to put it nicer than I have. 

Mason is one bad trait after another. It’s like when Harris was bored of constantly writing about plain ole pedophilia, he threw a dart at a board of horrible things and landed on topics such as: pedophilia but make it incest, extreme sadism, sadism but against children now, and good old fashioned racism! Fucking Cordell was supposed to collect the children’s tears after Mason would make them cry and put them in martinis for him. Realism went out the goddamn door real fast with this novel y’all. Like a fucking Scooby Doo villain over here. 

And he loves talking about being a sadistic pedophile, he will literally not shut up about it to Clarice when she first gets there telling her about his trip to Africa and this portable guillotine he has and just. I get it was probably like trying to make her uncomfortable on purpose because he’s a Freak, but it went way too far if only because it was annoying, not even uncomfortable for me as a reader. I was bored real quick. Get to the shit I actually wanna know. 

And it sucks because of the weird, over-the-top way of how he died, I got zero satisfaction from his death. I couldn’t even be like, “Well at least Margot got her revenge,” because that’s not how she originally wanted to kill him!!! She wanted someone else to extract his semen for the insemination but couldn’t find anybody to do it for her, and then Hannibal, whilst tied up, said use a cattle prod and you won’t have to touch him and when you kill him you can blame it on me, and I’m pretty sure even if she hit his prostate right every time and he COULD cum from that alone in addition to how his body is Fucked Up now, it would’ve been a lengthy, gross, and re-traumatizing experience for her because all she wanted to do was avoid seeing and touching her brother’s private parts again, which I think is a totally fair and rational desire. 

So I have to live with the fact that she was desperate enough to not lose the house and business because of her homophobic father to go through her childhood trauma again. There’s no place in this book that has a somewhat positive conclusion. 

Even the very last bit where Barney has a girlfriend and a ton of cash from Margot, all he wants to do is see every Vermeer in the world right? Well, because Hannibal and Clarice are in Buenos Aires where one of them is on display, Barney gets spooked and has him and his girlfriend leave before he can see it and it ends that bit with he never got to see it ever so he didn’t even complete his dream!!! 

Also for good measure, Harris throws in that Hannibal and Clarice enjoy having sex regularly. For no reason. Just letting us know. 

I know this seemed like just a bitch fest, because it was, but I kinda sorta enjoyed it? It kept my attention at the very least. It’s really disappointing because like I said, I love the movies, all of them, and have since I was little. To see the original not stand up to that image in my mind is a little heartbreaking. Especially Clarice. She was a strong female role model to me, but turns out she’s... just kinda there. And her ending is that of her no longer being herself and getting that agency taken away from her. 

There is a reference to her waking up from a sleep, if she is asleep (that’s kind of how he worded it), that kinda let us draw our conclusions on whether she was just brainwashed into being good for him or if she was willingly going along with this and was in love with him I guess and it felt like a slap in the face. She turned from a hardworking, modest country girl working her way up to the FBI into a female Hannibal. Which on the surface sounds kinda cool because we love luxe serial killers, but that’s not what she wanted or who she was set up to be. And to insinuate that she would even remotely consider choosing that path for herself is at its best an insult to her and at its worst a complete erasure of her background, what little character Harris did set up. It also completely erases my own connections to her, as a girl from a small town myself who has bigger dreams than this and also... a good, strong set of morals. He just tossed that out the window. 

Obviously if you’re on this blog, you like slasher x reader shit, and this is a novel with a slasher x a person, right? So why am I so mad about it? Because the whole point of this blog and reader insert fanfiction in general is that you are taken as you are and loved wholly as yourself and that you are worthy of that love (in a fictional setting, not really loving people who are like this, which I think we understand but I want to clarify). She was not taken as she was. He is not in love with her, she is not in love with him. She was transformed into what he wanted out of her. He couldn’t get her to be Mischa, his first plan, so he made her like himself. And the fact that he was so easily able to do it makes me upset, and even more so is that it’s not written like it’s weird or wrong. It’s written like they’re in love and this is a good thing. 

He may have been going for the classic “everyone is capable of doing bad things” stuff we see a lot, but we got that from Margot already. And Barney, for stealing Lecter’s stuff and selling it. And Paul, and the entire FBI for turning on Clarice, and the kidnappers, and Pazzi, and random shitty side characters. And none of it was particularly well written or made some sort of strong statement. It just was. And that’s not a good enough basis for a novel.

Aldrich; A name meaning ‘a wise and aged ruler.’ With such a name, his family expects and predicts great things of their boy. He will one day be powerful, so very strong.

Carrow; “Carrow” in Norfolk, or “Carraw” in Northumberland. The first is assumed to have its name derived from the Old English word “carr”, meaning “rock”, and a word of Celtic origin; “hoh”, meaning “spur of a hill”.

REASON FOR CHOSEN CHARACTER

I’ve played Amycus for, about a year’s worth, on and off, and I enjoy him because he’s his own person but also has the ‘dynamic’ of having a twin, and living/making decisions not only for himself but sometimes for the both of them, or having them being treated as ‘the same’ by others, because they are twins. Like, it’s interesting to have a character so closely linked to Amycus. And I love exploring his family dynamic bc he’s one of the characters that doesnt really have a ‘set’ past in canon, so there’s so many different ways he could end up because of what his life was like as he grew up.

Amycus could say his childhood had been. Interesting. Born the male of a pair of twins, he was favored, and it wasn’t hidden. He was given the love and attention his sister was denied, and the words that best described his as a toddler were ‘spoiled brat’. He grew up learning he could have whatever he wanted, and that ‘no’ didn’t really mean ‘no’, not to someone with power and money like him. Though his parents weren’t entirely interested in raising children. They wanted an heir to the family and had no time or patience to deal with a growing child, let alone two. A lot of Amycus’ childhood was spent playing his sister and hiding from his tutors and nannies.

Amycus was very young when he realized what the world was like. His father had never been a pleasant person, and the nights he would drink were the nights the whole family suffered by his hands. He and his sister learned the world was ‘dog eat dog’, and many dog eaters looked like humans. They learned to be vicious and bare their teeth at others. As they got older, they learned it wasn’t enough to look scary; you had to be scary. They must pit themselves against the world or die trying. Fear of his father and reality of the world drove Amycus to learn to defend himself, in anyway he should need to. Amycus learned to defend himself, he needed to be the monster he was afraid of, and very readily embraced it.

Amycus learned to be vicious, as did his sister, but didn’t learn to hide it behind polite smiles and good manners as she did. The words that best described him as a young teen were ‘cruel monster’. Amycus was mean, he was a sadistic monster that choked kids until their eyes pleaded with him for their lives, whose pranks turned from mean letters to disemboweled pets as Christmas presents. The voices that coo words to him in his head remind him what a monster he is. Sometimes, the voices are quiet, and Amycus is never sure whether he’s glad for the silence, or is afraid of it.

Amycus has dragged himself down into a rotten little hole now, which he knows will one day make his grave. His time in school in Slytherin house led to him to making friends with other ‘bad’ children, and is where he found his interest in the Dark Arts. Now working with the Death Eaters, Amycus has found a place where he feels more accepted, though he still garners dirty looks with his bloodied hands and maddened grins.

Amycus will sleep with whomever says yes. He’s not picky by any means whatsoever. Sex is sex, after all. A means to an end. If he had the information, he’d probably identify something closer to agender, but as that’s all very abstract and not widely shared information at this time, he’s simply content with being called a male.

-Amycus is surprisingly good at memorizing spells, and knows quite a few charms and curses, more than the average students learned at Hogwarts. He’s had a few private tutors at the behest of his father, and read quite a few books on magic in his spare time. He’s very good at martial magics, and can sustain a Fiendfyre for quite a long time without losing it’s control. -Amycus is photosensitive, and often gets migraines from being in the light for too long. Thus, he prefers being a night owl, or at least avoiding being outside, especially if it’s a sunny or bright day. He likes keeping his room and as much of the house dark as he can, which makes the place look pretty gloomy. -Due to very little social interaction beyond his sister as a child, Amycus has a hard time understanding sarcasm, and often take’s other’s opinions in a very ‘black and white’ way. He thinks people either like him, or hate him, and there’s no in between. Also, people are either angry with him, or enjoy him; he has a hard time knowing if he’s upset people, and struggles to read into tone of voice and other social cues. -Amycus is rather paranoid about noise, and enjoys the quiet. He very often moves around to avoid noise, and is easily set off into distress or anger over loud noises. He’s most afraid of the sound of footsteps, as it reminds him of the sound of his parent’s coming down the halls of their home as a child. -It’s more likely than not Amycus lies somewhere on the Autism Spectrum, but his parents only considered him a fussy child. Even he doesn’t think he’s autistic, mainly because mental illness is stigmatized and not talked about, especially among wizarding communities. -Amycus has schizoaffective disorder, and cycles between intense depressions and manias. He suffers from auditory hallucinations that started to develop during his time in school, and soon after he started having visual hallucinations, though those are much more uncommon to him. -Amycus is a very physical person and enjoys being able to touch objects or other people, but understands personal boundaries. He won’t continually touch those who’ve expressed discomfort about it. When idle, he often likes having something to hold on hold onto, or to be held himself. He wears heavy jackets often, even in the heat, because the weight of it on his shoulders is comforting. -Amycus usually has his wand up one of his sleeves strapped his his forearms; mainly to his right as he’s a left handed person. He also often carries a switchblade on him. Amycus often wanders off into the Muggle parts of town, and fighting with a knife leaves less clues to point back to him than using magic against them. Though due to his temper, he’s been known to try and stab anyone who upsets him, even other wizards.

“Very, puzzle like decisions. Where people want to trick you with their words. Saying one thing, meaning something that’s not what they said. People make things so much more complicated than they should be, almost all the time. Bullshit.”

“That I’m the worse twin. Just look at Alecto. I’m even, better looking. There literally can’t be any way that I’m worse. I’m very obviously the better twin. Who would even think twice about it? Huh? Even Alecto knows, I’m the better one. Though she won’t admit it. Which makes her worse. She’s too up her own ass to see it, really. ”

WRITING SAMPLE

—Amycus hissed and withdrew his hands from the piano when it shocked him, looking over his shoulder at his father. “Start over.” Darius replied, leaving Amycus to quietly turn back to the piano and begin the piece again. The boy got tripped up at the same spot, and was shocked once more by the piano. He bit his tongue to keep from whimpering, and without being told started from the beginning. The third time he was able to play it, but only a few bars past made another mistake. He yelped when the shock hit him, and this time he turned to look at Darius. “Father.” The man stopped his pacing to stare at his son, and Amycus did his best not to let his voice falter, “Please, I-It’s very hard to continue learning the piece if I have to start again at every mistake. I w-won’t get good at the end if I only play the beginning, sir.”

“If you paid more attention to what you were doing, perhaps you wouldn’t have to begin again so many times.” Darius quipped back, leaving Amycus deflated. He bit his tongue again and gripped the piano bench tightly. After a few moments he turned back to the piano to continue playing. The nine year old could only endure the harsh treatment for so much longer, and after about another half hour Amycus stood abruptly after being shocked, the piano bench scraping across the ground. He stood with his hand balled into little fists, tears in his eyes and just beginning to tremble. “Sit down.” Darius warned with a hiss.

“No!” Amycus snapped back, glaring at his father with teary eyes, “I don’t wanna play anymore!” The boy began storming away to the door, and just before he reached for the handle he was thrown to the ground harshly, landing on his side. “I said sit down.” Darius had his wand raised and slowly moved to stand over his son. Amycus was crying by now, getting back to his feet slowly.

He stood there and hung his head, and just as his father began to speak again, Amycus shoved him as hard as he could and bolted out the door. Darius stumbled back a bit and almost fell in surprise, then snarled and yanked the door all the way open to storm into the hall. “Amycus!” He screamed at his son, who was just barely scrambling down the stairs out of sight. Amycus made it to the front hall, fumbling with the locks on the door. When he opened the door he only got one foot outside before he ran headfirst into his father who had Apparated in front of him.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Darius hissed. Amycus sobbed, crying out when he was dragged back to his feet by his arm, feebly attempting to pull himself from his father’s grip as he was dragged across the marble floor in the front hall. His feet scrambled for purchase as he tried to stop his father from dragging him, screaming and tossing himself around like a trapped animal. Amycus was close to hyperventilating now, body shaking with fear as he desperately tried to escape his father. His head turned at the creaking of a door and he saw her there; Alecto stood in the door way, expressionless and staring. Blank empty eyes looked into his own as he began pleading for Alecto to help him, but his pitiful cries seem to fall on deaf ears as the girl didn’t so much as blink as her brother was dragged through the basement’s door.

Amycus knew what an Unforgivable curse was before any of his friends.

—Amycus stormed past his mother as he walked through the front door of the Carrow Manor, dropping his suitcases with a harsh clatter and climbing the stairs two at a time, quickly making his way to his room. He slammed the door behind himself and moved to stand in the middle of the room. He shook with anger, his nails biting into his palm as he made white-knuckled fists. It’s not fair. Why couldn’t he stay? All of his friends got to stay at school over break, but he had to go home. Amycus stormed to his dresser and swept his arm across the top, knocking everything to the ground and letting anything glass shatter. It’s not fucking fair! Why the hell should he be home? He fucking hated it here, and both his parents knew it. The boy strode to his desk and threw the chair aside, throwing the journals and books to the ground and chucking the inkpot at a wall. Ever since he began attending Hogwarts, Amycus had loathed returning home for winter vacation, and especially for summer vacation. He never wanted to be home anymore. He never wanted to be around his father.  

“You’re upsetting your mother, if you insist on throwing a fucking tantrum like a child, I’ll-” Darius yelled as he swung the door open, and a picture frame very narrowly avoided his head and shattered against the wall behind him. “Fuck you!” Amycus screamed, grabbing a book from the shelves next to his desk to throw at his father as well. “You fucking wanted me home! I’m here! What the fuck did you expect, father?” the boy’s tone was mocking, and he shrieked with pain when hit with a Cruciatus Curse. The fourteen year old crumpled to the ground writhing in agony as white hot pain shot through him.

“Don’t you dare speak to me like that you ungrateful mongrel!” Darius snarled at his son. Amycus could only scream, the pain terribly overwhelming. The Cruciatus Curse was more powerful the more hatred the user felt. The pain made him want to black out. The teen laid on the floor struggling to breathe when the curse was lifted, making no move to get up when his door was slammed close. Amycus laid on the floor for another hour, his body aching too much to move.

One night soon after, Amycus waited until late to leave his room, to make his way down to the kitchen. He grabbed the biggest knife he could find and took the back door into the yard, walking across the wet lawn in the moonlight. He grimaced at the sting of the cold, only wearing his pajamas and socks in the freezing weather. It took most of his strength to push open the door to the stables, and it took no time to walk over to the stall. Amycus stared at the horse, looking at the medals that decorated the wall behind it. Father’s prized racing horse. The stall door was easy to open.

Amycus said nothing as his father walked into the dining hall, staring the man down as his father stopped dead in the doorway. He watched the color drain from the man’s face as he looked at the crudely butchered horse that was strewn across the entirety of the long table. He sat back in his father’s chair, giving his father a cold and hateful stare. “Merry Christmas, father.”

Amycus always got the best gifts at Christmas time.

The fairytale episode with a confusing title, Secondo being the THIRD episode of the season. The episode is also one of the most visual ones in the whole series, BUT there was still a lot of interesting stuff to find!

This was cut from the very beginning of the episode. Hannibal seems happy, is it because he “ran into Will Graham”?

After this Bedelia asks “was it nice to see him?”.

This scene went a bit differently, since Will just walks past the grave, and of course “beloved” was written in lithuanian. (The flowers are called Bird of Paradise in case anyone wants to know).

Sometimes I’m not sure how intentional these things are, since you can only see them in the script, but...it sure makes an interesting read.

Gross. but anyways, i moved onto supernatural, doctor who, and sherlock (rip) and was there for a Good Long While, but i matured out of it honestly and moved onto game of thrones, where i stayed until louis tomlinson and harry styles walked into my life and everything i touched turned into one direction.

What tv shows or movies did you watch as a child that were fundamental to how you grew up? i think desperate housewives was the first show i ever binge watched??? so that led to like??? my entire fascination with TV, and it also led me to queer as folk which was basically the biggest help i could have ever had in figuring out that i was a Big Gay Baby. but also buffy was soooo influential because it was not only a fun genre piece that gave me my fantasy/sci-fi fix, it was also just like?? these bad ass women doing bad ass things. and also it was the first of many Gay Taras that would come to television :’)

What’s one thing you collect(ed): the brand of tea my mom drinks always used to come with these little ceramic figurines and i thought they were so fucking cute, and i have them all lined up on my chest of drawers back home in massachusetts??? they’re so silly, like they change depending on the month you bought the tea during so some of them are pumpkins for october or little cupids for february or snowmen for january. they’re so goddamn adorable.

bruh ‘i don't have the right parts for your proclivities, margot.’ contextually proves will graham is meant to be an unknown and purposeful character. 

he barely knows this woman but he knows things so intimate about her. who is he, sherlock holmes?

he is fully aware that margot is a lesbian and is fully aware of her agenda. he, moreover, is willing to become a part of that agenda. he has his own plans, too. he is not an easily manipulated character, and at most times, he is letting you think you are manipulating him because it drives advantages forward for him (as well). he was willing to help margot and she was willing to use him, and he was willing to be used, thus she is also helping him.

i’d say the only person who has truly manipulated him was hannibal, in season one. jack threatens him and will makes his own choice to continue because he wants to save people. otherwise, he’s literally not having shit from anybody. like he said, he knows all the tricks. and clearly, drugging your patients and using theraputic and invasive techniques on them without their permission wasn’t in the handbook. 

he is just as intelligent as hannibal and much more so in the area of emotional intelligence. and i’d say that makes him far more well-rounded and well-versed with the world in this sense. 

though he just seems to be the character every one takes advantage of, treats like a child, talks behind his back, thinks is weak and in need of guidance and support, he is hyper-aware of this fact. terribly so. i wanna talk about how that one statement sheds light on just how much he knows, about everything that is going on, and how much he anticipates will happen. 

will's incredible ability to assume totally the position of another renders him highly susceptible to manipulation, yes.

because he says 'okay, i see the world through your eyes, and if we are theoretically assuming that your perception is now mine, then i am more bound to agree with you'. while he will not personally adopt these beliefs in reality, he hypothetically does. he can accept they are just as valid and as much a part of reality, because there is no real “good” and “evil” force in the world that dictates this, especially coming from a man who has rejected these more crutch-beliefs rooted in god and deliverance etc

think of it as method acting, he becomes the other person for a required amount of time, distinguishing himself from himself as them. but it is easy to get lost in that. think how easy it can be for you to get lost in idealizing or demonizing yourself.

meaning he is more likely to go along with their ideology - a manipulation into codependency and the subsequent folie à deux. these opinions soak into his brain, touching every part, and to combat new information, the uncertainty and possibility that his own were no excelled enough, did not serve him enough, he begins to reason with them, and can stand looking at them from a distance while agreeing with them,  not necessarily liking them and holding them as what he believes is "personally good" but finding they have use and validity. 

however, this also means his is excellent at manipulating you right back, and who's to say letting you manipulate him, was not part of him manipulating you? he uses people to his advantage because his intentions are consistently for the greater good. 

sure he has some intentions of chasing hannibal to find that feeling of being alive and challenged and interested. this guy has wants that differ from yours? call the fucking police! he’s still doing his damn job, and pretty freaking well. 

he has pulled some of the biggest mosey-arounds that contend equally with hannibal's and relies on his unstable and sensitive image, wanting people to think they have an upper hand because it renders them lazy or unconcerned with what he is really planning. 

   * and tbh the fact that he has consistently been able to fuck hannibal over from season to and worm his way inside hannibal so irreparably, has literally lulled him into a false sense of security over and over again and still have him feel so deeply about him?  i think it shows will is probably the most intelligent person in the room when he starts playing dirty, like hannibal did in season one. but will didn’t have the help of drugs or mental instability to use against hannibal * 

people prey on other’s weaknesses, both for “god” and for “bad”. you may notice an insecurity in a friend and consistently pressure it with positivity to help build their confidence without making it clear what you’re doing so they believe it comes from themself. there is always two sides to one coin. and the point is, you do not see what will’s side is, you can only assume, and this is where it gets dangerous. this is why people are so uncertain and uncomfortable around him. you either have to take it as “this is simply who he is and he does not always intend to be ‘___’ or ‘___’ or you can straight up hate him for not being agreeable or sharing you opinions etc that’s fine.

he will go along with things both because he has succumbed to trust and understanding on purpose and therefore, throughout that period will believe it genuinely, almost like autopilot (because he is forever protecting his own mind and shielding it from the haunt of reality, and lbr by now he’s pretty sure he knows he doesn’t know that he actually knows who he is, so reaffirms that he does indeed, know himself, bc fuck being a person is hard and pleasing everyone is harder so? fuck it why should he?) and thus this can lead into building trust, companionship, understanding etc which will allow him a multitude of possibilities: information? friendship? distraction? a double cross? 

he creates practical versions of himself in the eyes of others but it goes far beyond that, he becomes these under-the-skin suits as opposed to hannibal who wears them over his skin. will has his own moral compass, he cares about people, he believes the end justifies the means if the means are the right thing to him, as anyone else would, he follows his own path because this is the only path for him. this is how he was born, he thinks differently and he makes the best of it, and mostly for the sake of others. because before all this crap? he was just some quiet teacher with a bunch of dogs who liked to fish and drink on the weekends.

people despise him for making complete use of his intelligence and do not know his reasons, that is what makes him a deep misunderstanding. that playing within the realms of reality by using your imagination seems an “unfair” or “spiteful” tactic...he’s literally doing his own thing, concerning himself with his own thing and he is more often than not threatened into reacting with brutal mind-games, though it doesn’t excuse some of the things he’s has done, it shows that just because you perceive a situation to be one way, doesn’t mean these were the intentions of the instigator and simply because your ethics differ, there will never be any final statement of what is “right” and what is “wrong” when it comes to saving lives.

Black Sails:

I cry when she breathes she’s so perfect

a character I didn’t used to like but now do: Charles Vane. This show is really good at humanizing characters. I still have a lot of problems with Vane but I like where he was going in the end and I appreciate that he martyred himself. Also Teach for similar reasons, and also because his interactions with Jack did a good job of humanizing him I think. Plus his execution? Best martyrdom ever

a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened: I don’t think that it shouldn’t ahve happened because it was integral to their storylines and their characters, but Eleanor/Charles Vane. I didn’t like them but just because they weren’t right for each other at all. But their relationship did largely influence how they interacted with the storyline and each other and stuff so it was important.

my favourite storyline/moment: When James or Max or Anne walk on screen? Iconic. But no I liked when James was slipping after Miranda and did all the shit like blowing up the town. It was just very exciting and I was really attached to Miranda so I was backing him completely. But I also really just like s2 in general.

I’m sad James and John are splitting apart I guess but I completely understand why it has to happen and I know Thomas is at the end so it’s okay

what does Will mean by the ripper being "one of those pitiful things"? all I can really assume it means is he thinks the ripper is weak and stronger than anticipated... but that's all I can really gleam from it? I'm not really sure what else he was trying to say?

The full quote for my reader’s reference as well as my own is “I see him as one of those pitiful things sometimes born in hospitals. They feed it, keep it warm, but they don't put it on the machines. They let it die. But he doesn't die. He looks normal, and nobody can tell what he is.”

It is, to be fair, a very weird fucking thing to say. People talk about Will and Hannibal talking nonsense to each other a lot and they do but Will and Jack are sure doin it in this scene

Anyway to explain the story: the nurses took one look at that baby and said “yep that one’s Rotten” and they didn’t actively try to kill him but they also didn’t make any real effort to encourage him to thrive, bc it was clear to them even then that there was something Wrong with the baby

The implication of it is like, the baby is born visibly fucked up somehow and the nurses assume he’s cursed? Like think phantom of the opera if you know that story? Maybe in this case he’s just born sickly and extra shriveled looking, but the implication is that he appeared to be some sort of abomination as an infant in some sort of way, to such an extent that people are v put off by him and aren’t as invested in his survival as they would be with a normal baby. I mean maybe not physical so much as extra bad vibes but yk??

And then Will goes on to say “but he doesn’t die. He looks normal, and nobody can tell what he is.” Indicating that whatever deformity baby Ripper had, he grew up and grew out of, such that when people meet him now they don’t have that same visceral rejection that the nurses had when he was a baby in the hospital

The whole story is of course allegorical bc Will hates clarity of speech: he’s not saying that he’s actually deduced that the Ripper was a sickly infant. He’s trying to say he sees the Ripper as someone who has always been a monster, and that it was probably a lot more obvious when he was a kid than it is now. The Ripper was never innocent, not even as an infant, but he’s learned to hide that now that he can

He’s trying to tell Jack that he doesn’t see the Ripper as redeemable in any way. That he doesn’t relate to him or even see him as fully human

Which is a load of hot garbage bc Will sees the inherent humanity in every one of the killer’s he’s profiled, and I think almost especially so with the Ripper, even before he found out it was Hannibal. He just doesn’t want to tell that to Jack bc he knows this is more how Jack feels about him

Feel free to ignore this if you don’t share the same opinions or don’t wanna start this discussion but this has been on my mind a lot lately – i would die for hannigram but i really hate the way fandom treats jack, esp compared to Hannibal. Ppl write him as being horrendous in fics bc of “what he did to will” while in the show he actually gave will an out, will just didn’t take it bc he wanted to keep saving lives, even if it cost him his own. He had actual agency in the situation, (1)

while he wasn’t even *aware* of the shit Hannibal was putting him through. Jack was desperate, his wife was dying, he was a pushy boss and he wasn’t aware of how badly will was affected bc *will didn’t tell him*. He put *himself* at risk of getting worse (i love will but he was *losing time* and yet didn’t tell anyone besides Hannibal? That’s… irresponsible to say the least i’d be afraid to go out of my house lmao). But he got his revenge on Hannibal and they’re soulmates so he’s fine (2)

while jack deserves to die in fics i guess?? It’s the same with Beverly. Ive seen multiple times people call her a bitch for how she treated will while he was in prison and it’s like… she’d seen definitive proof that her friend and colleague had eaten someone. Would you not be suspicious/confused/guarded in this situation? She got herself killed for him and that’s still not enough for some people. (3)

Idk man, i come from fandoms with a lot of racist attitudes among the fans, for a while the Hannibal one seemed different but it seems everywhere people just refuse to treat characters of colour with the same respect they do white ones. It’s not everyone of course but it’s still noticeable and no one seems to care. (4/4) (sorry for the rant, again, feel free to ignore)

Man I mean I admit that I myself am not a big fan of Jack Crawford but you’re absolutely right that this is a huge problem in the fandom

I’m hesitant to say it’s all rooted in racism (especially with regard to Jack) bc the show definitely paints Jack as a far less sympathetic character than it does Hannibal. But certainly a lot of it is reinforced by the racist attitudes to which we’ve all been exposed

Jack isn’t a terrible person, and he’s certainly not half as terrible a person as Hannibal is; maybe he’s not a Great Guy and certainly he doesn’t show as much care and consideration for Will as I would like him to, but as you say there was an awful lot that Jack didn’t know about how Will was doing and it’s difficult to demand someone accommodate a person for things that person is intentionally concealing.

Also, not being a great boss and arguably manipulating someone into helping you save lives is an inherently lesser evil than any of the things Hannibal has done

It is however a more mundane evil, and I think that’s why a lot of people latch onto it; it’s really hard to care about Hannibal’s brand of evil in a personal way, bc it’s a type of evil that very few of us have experienced. He’s awful in a way our everyday monsters are not. Jack, on the other hand, is the kind of shitty boss I think a lot of us have had and hated, which means we react in a more instinctive way to his kind of awfulness

The Beverly stuff though... that I really can’t explain away. She was as good a friend to Will as anyone could possibly have expected her to be. Of course she was wary of him when she found out about all the evidence that he’d killed people: there was a TON of evidence, and she even references that when talking about it. It was too much evidence, too subtly planted, for her to think “he probably didn’t do this”

And she knew he’d been acting off, and it was discovered at the same time as his arrest that he had a brain disease—even if she believed that Will (who she really hadn’t known that long or had much chance to get close to!!) wouldn’t normally do something like this, there was reason to believe he’d been out of his mind in a way that might make him act out of character, and, again, tons of evidence that he was the killer

Beverly is a scientist, of course she’s going to listen to provable facts over her feelings in a situation like that one

And she did end up believing Will!! When he pressed her to go back and look into other things, she gave him that benefit of the doubt and did so fairly and found that he was right!!! What more do people want from her, honestly. She literally died for him
