The Decline of YouTube

Welcome to another episode on What the FK is up with YouTube these days. I have been on YouTube, well, I have had an account with YouTube since 2006. I used the platform before right after beta testing, but I did not have an official channel till 2006. I have watched YouTube grow so fast in the early years that I didn’t even realize what was happening. Sure, I posted, but I didn’t use for it for monetary gain. I am a film graduate, so I used the platform to upload my video projects so that I had a space to where I could link people to them in the case they wanted to possibly hire me to do their small scale video production work. Now anyone with an iPhone and access to AI tools is a “video production specialist.” However, I wouldn’t ask them technical questions on video production aspects. Lighting, what Dutch angles are, etc… It is likely they will not know what the hell you are even talking about. What I am going to cover here is a few of the more popular topics people tend to complain about with the philosophy and the functionality of how YouTube works currently in 2023. Much of this is going to be logical opinion driven. I will try to pull facts where I can, but more or less, this blog just serves as another cliff note on YouTube and some of the issues I have run into over the years to where I did blogs about them so that if I had to go back and do something YouTube related and ran into another problem I could refer to those blogs to help me figure out the issue. Also, I thought it was a good idea to blog these out for other people who may also run into the same unique issues I have over the years…

YouTube’s Fair Use Policy:

“Fair use is a legal doctrine that says use of copyright-protected material under certain circumstances is allowed without permission from the copyright holder.” ~ChatGPT’s summary.

Fair Use, while clearly defined in the writing of YouTube’s Terms of Service “TOS”, still has that subjective nature to it and it is clear that nature now is being abused. I get that “some” people will attempt to upload full movies on the YouTube platform. There are whole channels dedicated to uploading full length movies. However, many of these channels upload either very old, out of circulation films or films that do not follow the strict copyright laws like some of those really old drive-in style flicks from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. YouTube only cares when copyright claims are filed. If a person, or company doesn’t do that then there isn’t an issue. YouTube is basically saying if you try to pirate newer popular titles we will strike and/or block the account outright. While, I feel, it should be alright for rare, out of circulation, independent, perhaps, banned, or clearly B and C quality movie territory, just so an audience can find them and enjoy them. Popular movies should not be allowed. I mean, I feel like the spirit of the algorithm that supports this is where the problem is.

I do not know how it works specifically. This is all speculation and creative thinking on my side of this. I am not going to pretend I am a coder and I know how this stuff works. I do not have that knowledge. However, if it were me, I would have it looking for big uploads. I mean if we are strictly talking movies here and not music or music video, just movies, these would be massive uploads. Even if compressed, these files would be fairly large. I would have the algorithm look at all large uploads to check for copyright. That would narrow down a lot of the “auto-block” issues that many channels have to deal with that use anything that could be a copyright strike against them. This seems to be a major issue among channels that do reviews or critical breakdown videos. If the algorithm is looking for copyrighted materials, in general, no wonder so many videos are being auto-blocked. They are treating all uploads, all of the time, as possible copyright infringements. While there should be separate layers to it. There should be levels to what is what, how it is labeled in the system, and how it is being used. They use this “algorithm” to do what, exactly? Ok… Fine… Program it a little smarter then. I will role play as the algorithm:

1) There is an upload.

2) Scan file for length

3) Scan file’s video/audio source and content.

4) If length is under (insert generic length of average movie here) ignore as full movie copyright.

5) If file containing possible copyrighted materials, apply rules for use (whatever those rules are).

Again… I do not know how it all works and whatever. This is a sarcastic example. I am simply saying; if we are now using AI for so much. We cannot train it to scan all videos coming in using rules of logic to figure out if said uploads violate the rules of the platform’s Terms of Service (TOS) regarding “Fair Use?” To me this should be broken down into a more binary form for the software to handle anyway.

When I was in computer school, years ago, I learned what an ACL is and how to program one. ACL stands for “Access Control List.” ACLs are a security list that manages permissions, ensuring only authorized users can access resources like files, networks, or systems. It works like a binary switch. If the switch is on to block specific traffic from (insert IP Address here). It will block that traffic and users from the IP or IP ranges from access to that data, which could be a site or platform or specific portions of that platform or website. So to me, this is why I feel like the algorithm’s logic is programed, well, to not accept the rules as they are in the TOS. Either the engineers did not physically do the work to program the specifics or they were told not to. It’s either on purpose or an oversight. It takes a very special mind to sort out and write ACLs. Its pain staking and one can mess up fairly easily. I, personally, was not good at this. I understood, conceptually, how to interpret the data. However, writing the instructions? Not so good…

As Far As Copyright Companies Go…

Yeah, they clearly do not understand the “fair use” laws as they are written. It is a fight that could cost you money or the potential to make money and for what? They have the power and the money to squash your argument. This is why if AI were doing it and the rules followed the physical rules and logic of those rules and their intentions, it would be cut n’ dry. From that, it would be based on a 0 or a 1, conceptually. It either broke a policy or it did not. If it were that simple, most, if not all, of this would be adverted. AI/software is going to behave how we program it to behave. If the TOS says a thing and it is programmed that way in the algorithm it will follow the rule. Take that logic and apply it to what the algorithm actually does and see if it actually matches what the TOS says.

There is also this arrogant attitude from companies about what advanced technology can do to an inflated sense of self-belief in its actual ability to work. This attitude that their program, their policy, their protocol, and their company could, ever be, WRONG… This is a huge problem. Not just in technology, but also in bigger tech and biggest tech, insanely, obnoxiously humongous tech. “Ludicrous Speed! GO!” It terrifies me with its relationships with religion, politics, reality, existential existence itself. We have rules to govern how we do things and the very things that require the rules to operate correctly do not follow the rules and we are told to just ignore them. Is it really a surprise the world is in the turmoil it is in, even at this smallish scale of a video hosting platform for independent creators? That is what YouTube was when it started. For people who couldn’t get their voice out there and now Big Tech and Mass Media have literally stole it with their promises of ad revenue.

YouTube’s Corporate Culture:

Over the time where Google purchased YouTube and what YouTube currently focuses on with issues related to corporate advertising and the platform's shift towards a more corporate and advertising-focused direction. There is an extensive use of advertisements by large corporations on the platform. You all know these by the ads that often annoy, interrupt and disrupt the viewing experience per video. Another significant concern is the abundance of mainstream corporate news content now dominating YouTube. This presence of mainstream news content can overshadow and reduce the visibility of alternative opinions and independent creators. Currently, YouTube is a result of the platform's monetization strategy. YouTube allows content creators to earn revenue through ads displayed on their videos. While this has enabled many creators to earn a living from their content, it has also led to an influx of corporate advertisements, sometimes making the viewing experience less enjoyable for users and less is understating it.

YouTube has drifted away from its original appeal as the be-all-end-all platform for independent creators. It should be noted that Twitch and Rumble are now catching up. They are never gonna be YouTube, but they can take YouTube’s spot for small-time independent creators to go and get a better experience. Perhaps even a better monetization process. The platform initially gained popularity for allowing individuals to upload and share their content, fostering a sense of creativity, entertainment, education and community. YouTube's increasing corporate focus, which is evident in the platform's prioritization of corporate advertising and mainstream news content. This shift has led to a growing perception that YouTube is prioritizing corporate interests over those of independent content creators. These concerns and critiques are rooted in the evolving nature of YouTube as a digital platform.

YouTube has increasingly become a platform for news dissemination. Many mainstream news organizations have established their presence on the platform, uploading news segments and reports. While this provides users with access to a wide range of news content, it can also make it challenging for alternative or independent news sources to gain visibility. There is also pressure from the legacy mass media that what they report is FACT and if other, smaller, independent channels post a video as a news worthy story and it contradicts the reporting from the mainstream media that the uploader’s video is now in question of being labeled as misinformation. This is also a potential problem that is understated most of the time. Mainly due to many of the uploads being opinion-based anyway. Where actual, small time, independent news channels might have a problem there. That part is hard to say, as I do not follow any on the platform. YouTube's shift towards a more corporate and advertising-focused direction is partly a response to the need for profitability. To sustain the platform, YouTube has pursued partnerships with advertisers and legacy media organizations, which has led to the proliferation of corporate content. However, this shift has raised concerns about the platform's commitment to supporting and promoting independent creators. These concerns reflect broader discussions about the role and direction of digital platforms in the modern media landscape, where balancing corporate interests with the needs of the user and independent content creators remains a complex challenge.

What X (formally known as Twitter) is trying to do is be the YouTube of old with promoting everyday X users to report news where they are in the event “something news worthy is happening live” on the platform. While a good thought, I do not think it will succeed. What is more likely to happen is X (formally known as Twitter) will eventually get itself shut down and something new will spark from it. That new “thing” will be what X (formally known as Twitter) is trying to do, mixed in with what YouTube used to be in the early days, before YouTuber, Influencer and Content Creator were even phrases. Most of my thoughts here stems from X (formally known as Twitter) going all weird with pushing news stories that some are legit and others are just nonsense, all while displayed as legit news stories. I had to mute around 100 accounts before I started noticing less and less of that. Granted I may miss a real story that is actually a big story, but I look at things a lot deeper than the Flat Earther, conspiracy pirates that look at Twitter/X as NEWS that requires no validity; and/or look at CNN/FOX/NBC/NewsMax’s YouTube channels as the only places to get news.

YouTube’s Thumbs Up/Down Rating System:

Due to the corporate influencing on YouTube; videos were getting rated worse and worse. This is and was due to us, the viewer, that hates corporate ANYTHING and EVERYTHING… We left cable due to that gross, icky, dirty corporate feeling. These videos were getting lowered and not viewed as much. These companies were paying top dollar for these ads and they are now either not being seen at all or voted as low quality videos. I doubt companies want their ad on videos considered trash. So YouTube changed their rating system to a thumbs-up, thumbs-down where at first we could all see both votes. Flash-forward some years later and they switch the thumbs-down to be hidden at all times. One now can never see the amount of thumbs-down votes a video could have. At this point, it is not possible, before you click on a video to know whether or not the rating system is being honest with itself.

Rather than this idiotic thumbs-up, thumbs-down system, which is currently defunct thanks to YouTube blocking our ability to see any and all thumbs-down, so the system itself is pointless. YouTube now uses this for analytics and the almighty algorithm that basically dictates whether a video is good enough to label as “monetize this video.” I have heard so many horror stories that if the video doesn’t get liked it messes with the amount of monetization the video can get. The more thumbs up, the more money that creator will get for their efforts. This is not what the intention was for the thumbs up and thumbs down or maybe it was, in its current form. I can't help but think of the early days of YouTube when we had the star rating system. It was a system that offered so much more variety. If I found a video to be decent but not stellar or even terrible, I could give it a one, two, three, four, or five-star rating. Now, if a video truly stood out, I'd gladly grant it a five-star rating. This allowed for an averaged assessment of content quality that was our voice on what is good/bad.

Back then, this system served as a natural filter for weeding out subpar quality content. When I searched for a specific topic, all kinds of different videos would come up, and I could quickly gauge their worth to what it is I am interested in at that time. Even before clicking, I could see the star ratings. For instance, if a video boasted 250,000 views and a five-star rating, I knew it was likely to be what I am looking for or, at the very least, be up to the standard described in the title and thumbnail, which now feels all click-baity. Click-Bait came a little later. This is not a very good quality excuse for YouTube to blame Click-Bait for why the rating system was changed. It was changed so they can control how something appears on their website under the impression it is based on our votes. This isn’t much different than me hacking into your computer while you are on your bank website and I change the displayed HTML text in the background of your web browser; displaying whatever text I wanted it to. I could make it literally say anything. Oh, the implications… How is this any different from YouTube? They are literally controlling, telling us, what is good and we should watch this. If I am a million dollar company and I want to advertise on YouTube. Depending on how much money I want to spend I could have my ads on all the popular videos on YouTube, but from YouTube’s algorithm’s point of view.

The star rating system; videos with misleading titles, thumbnails, or poor-quality content would face the consequences of low ratings, because us, the viewers, were thumbs downing these videos. Their videos would display a dismal one-star rating, serving as a clear signal to other viewers that the content was trash. Granted that does not mean the video won’t be enjoyed by others, but it’s extremely implied, and it should be that way. This system was great the way it was. It sifted through the junk, simplified content search-ability, and allowed me to tailor my YouTube experience to my preferences. It's a shame we lost this feature.

YouTube’s Search Engine:

YouTube’s current search engine, how it currently operates, is extremely limited at trying to find something specific. With the evolution of chatbot language modals like ChatGPT. I’d love to see YouTube adapt a language modal AI, like this, to replace YouTube’s search engine or at least as an ad-on. You could have a short conversation with YouTubeSearch, let’s call her ‘Syrche,’ with what specifically you want to see in your search results or what you do not want to see.

An example prompt could be: “Syrche… Please display YouTube’s 15 most watched videos on Starcluster formations. Please display these 15 videos from channels that have between 100,000 and 200,000 subscription followers. Other video search criteria: only show results for Videos that are under 11 minutes and have no mid-video sponsored ads.” Should be noted that ads are to be expected, but what I am specifically asking in my search results are videos that have no “mid-video” ads. This means no breaks during the video. The search results could show me videos with an ad at the beginning of the video, which is to be expected, and ads that might be at the end of the video. There also could be ads in the creation of the video content itself that are not added by YouTube. They would be part of the video uploaded from the uploader. That is the beauty of using a language modal AI for this. It understands the context of your query in conversational form. The thing about AI language prompts is being extremely specific but doing it in the simplest way possible to your own abilities. If I want a more mainstream results driven approach in my search results I would just use the search like normal. If you want something extremely specific include an advanced search engine that is really a prompt answer language AI. I mean, why not? Everyone is using this now.

I guess the Future YouTube or FutureTube would be like YouTube but completely AI dependent. That would be interesting to see. Just imagine a thing like YouTube where you talk to an AI about what you want to watch or even Tell AI what to create for your channel. Maybe even before the end of the decade? Be interesting… Ciao…

whatever that i typed in my last letter, i sincerely meant every word of it. when i said i don’t think i want you back in my life, i meant it. i didn’t mean that i no longer want our friendship, but rather, it’s fine even if we’re no longer active participants of the other person’s life. because i strongly believe that i’m happy w my status quo and i believe you are too. i thought we can still be friends far apart, and rekindle the friendship when the opportunity allows. because you’re someone i would want to keep in my life forever

what’s not okay is me being this dysfunctional, hanging on to feelings from the past. hanging on to someone who does not reciprocate my feelings, and possibly hurting my partner who actually loves me. i’ve decided, it’s time i give you up for good. i tweeted this back in 2018: “i wanted the best for you. you deserve the world, something i will die to give but sadly i ain’t capable enough to get it for you” and i still meant every word of that. but what’s sad about my love towards you is that i love you so much that i would never allow myself to have you, despite how much i want you. because i will ALWAYS, always feel like i’m not good enough. that you deserve someone better. someone like her. the irony, the contradiction. here i am hurting over the fact that you’re w her, but another part of me knows this is what i’ve always wanted. at least you found someone you love that loves you back as well, you’re no longer lonely anymore right? you’re living blissful and happy days w her now right?

Were you ever abandoned in a public place as a child? Where? Abandoned is a pretty harsh word lol. My parents did like playing pranks on me and hide whenever I’d get distracted at the grocery or department store. They’d let me get nervous or even tear up for a bit until showing up again.

What accent do you have? I guess just your standard Filipino English accent that’s common among people who were able to take up English studies. I don’t really know how to describe it.

Is there someone in your family addicted to something? What is it? I don’t think so.

Have you ever been under general anaesthetic? What were you having done? I think so? When I had a tooth extraction done on me two years ago I was told I was going to be injected with anaesthesia, but I didn’t feel as if anything changed throughout the procedure. Either my dentist told me fake news lol or he’s just really good at his job for me to not notice anything.

How do you show the ones you love affection? It depends on the person. Around my friends, I know I’ve had taken a liking to them once I start getting especially talkative with them. For people I have even deeper relationships with, I like...buying them gifts, I guess. Getting them things that remind me of them. I would also bend over backwards to do nice deeds for them, like driving them to their destination even if I find it far.

Are you more passive or aggressive? I tend to be very passive aggressive in the way I deal with things.

Ah, Raring Wemps! So I am finally sitting down to reply to this lovely master post after the longest wait in history! (I do feel better knowing you’ve been diving into the ocean and living in #smultronsnåret, can’t get better than that, can it?). Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable because this will be quite the long read (förlåt).

It was a long time ago since I was in London. 2012 to be precise. It’s high up on my list of places to get back to (for living) once I get better and start getting all this illness stuff under control (DoucheDoc™ laughed when he asked me what my goal was and I bluntly said ‘To get good enough to get the fuck out of here and go back to exploring the world’. Admitting he couldn’t help me with that right now, he did say he appreciated the answer). However, my invitation for fresh sea delicacies if you’d ever come a little south of that N60° border is still open. 

Sadly the doc >> FK mess is getting even deeper. The “doctor” FK turns to for consultation when the medical issues exceed the normal levels they are used to seem to have absolutely no idea what ME/CFS is and is suggesting I am ill because I am inactive (while my specialist doctor think I am already almost doing too much for my condition before we have managed to find that fine line where it goes from being ok to too much), and need exercise therapy - something my specialist clinic doesn’t even offer because it has a higher rate of making people sicker than better. So things are gonna go further, we’re getting ready to make an appeal on their ruling, and I am just completely drained already. So things have not been looking great in this department - but I’ve managed to take some time off to be by the salty sea and watching horror movies until the morning light is coming up again with dear FreshNoob friends so even though one side of my life seem to be crashing and burning, it’s not all dark and dreadful! 

Creative things do have a MAJOR positive effect on both mood and in a sense my spoons as well (or rather, it is spoons well spent, if you catch my drift?). I am working on identifying what kind of things drain me of spoons and what could possibly give me some spoons or which - at the very least - give me a very positive emotional payoff doing. I am looking for ways to get my hands on an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil (my god why are they so expensive? :sweat: ), because that way I can bring my creative stuff with me everywhere and even do it on bed on the days when I am feeling too rough to do much. It could also serve as a smaller side income, selling prints and such, eventually ... so this is really an option I am looking into! 

Also, I absolutely LOVED your tarot suggestions, tack så hemskt mycket raring! And I did both laugh and get a little frustrated because the top deck you suggested (Jolandas) ... I already own. I just can’t find it. It’s a funny story, I went into her little shop in Gamla stan as a wee little 14-15ish year old Fresh Noob (so REALLY fresh) looking to dive into this mysterious world, and I got it and she signed the book for me (Krax pax!). I’ve been looking for this deck for months now, but I can’t find it. I’m scared one of my mum’s ex’s got it with him taking his stuff from the basement (a moment of silence, please ...). 

I’ve also already been throwing some serious eyes on The Wild Unknown deck, I love the colour bursts in it and the overall simple design is really appealing. I have had some mixed feelings wondering if perhaps it’s a little too simplistic and will be hard for someone new like me - but then, maybe I have enough creativity in my head to fill out the picture myself. A huge plus is that it’s fairly inexpensive to get as well (we really stan that at the moment with thet FK struggle!).

Scouting the vast interwebs trying to find a tarot deck for my dear Bästis after she expressed interest in getting one herself after seeing my deck on the table, I did stumble upon a real masterpiece though. I mean, it was love at first sight, I am obsessed. I check back at it like at least once a day and I am just like, ugh ... look at this thing! It’s the gilded Marigold Tarot deck. Quite a dark theme, but oh my, it’s absolutely gorgeous! I can’t get it out of my head! The $60-80 price tag is quite a hefty one though, at least for the time being. I can’t really justify spending that money on a tarot deck with the struggle currently going on with FK ... 

The deck I have right now is the Gateway to the Divine Tarot. It’s a really nice deck, very detailed and everything. But I just don’t vibe with it ... 😥😥😥 I pull cards, I look at them, and then I just sort of feel this ‘ugh’ feeling inside and shove them away. Because even though the imagery is really nice and eye-catching it doesn’t hold my attention and I just, ... I don’t like it? Does it make sense? Am I being a spoiled and difficult Fresh Noob here? lol

Also, a small story (because why not make this HUGE post even longer, right??) - I have a really special connection to the Sun card. Not particularly the meaning of it, but the name and the imagery. Darling Fresh Noob Granny passed away when I was a mere wee little girl of the small age of six. Way way too soon. We had quite a special bond, everyone always kept commenting on it, and she always called me her sun (and she was my moon). So whenever the sun card comes up (no matter what the position), Fresh Noob do get a little sappy and take it as a small nod from Granny.

I, who have never attempted it, was holding back my fear of trying something new lol. Alhamdulillah, i can somehow do it (even though one tampon fell, tiffany paboooo). The ppds kindly explained stuff to me and i feel like i shamelessly ask nowadays. Like it would be a waste not to ask something. Next was CBD @ Ara’s, we ate Ayam Bakar Mas Walid. Liqo with kak Kartika.

So I gotta’ start with the one that gave me the message in the first place, Aster. I have a lot of fun RPing with them. I’ll be honest, I was raising my eye at first when I first followed them since Alien OC blogs were real big at the time, but I’m impressed by not only how faithful they’ve stayed with their world and characters, but make them so enjoyable to both write with and read. I’m honestly surprised by the amount of thought Aster puts into developing Syn’s world, background, powers, and character development. I have no idea how they do it. I’m attempting to do world-building stuff in two stories I’m writing and it’s a pain for me to think up certain things. Aster has a talent for that sort of thing that I don’t possess. 

And Syn’s a fun character to both interact with and read. We decided to make them rivals as a pre-established relationship thing and I’m so glad we did. It’s not everyday your greatest rival/crush is an alien from a far off galaxy. And they play a decent Reimu too. While I personally doubt I’ll go back to the Touhou RPC for personal reasons, I wouldn’t mind being Sanae back just to interact with Aster’s Reimu.

Oh, but fair warning before following Aster, they like spinach as a pizza topping. Yes, that is disgusting, but if you can get over their OBVIOUSLY INCORRECT preference of pizza toppings, then give this guy a follow.

If you were to ask me which my favorite character relationship between all the people Claudia has interacted with was, I’d say Rei’s Nero without a second thought. I love the fact that Claudia actually has a mortal enemy she hates and I’m so thankful to Rei for giving me the dynamic of demon knight and holy woman I’ve wanted. Real talk, I love writing conflict and dramatic encounters, and Nero guarantees that. Claudia might hate Nero with a blinding passion, but I love it when these two cross each other. It really let’s me play up the demon part of Claudia’s moniker. Nero’s probably the only person Claudia will cuss out without a second thought and I can’t get enough of it. Maybe Allen’s a masochist or something?

Also, out of curiosity, I did try my hand at Corruption of Champions a few months back to see what it was about and get an idea of the world Nero came from, and... Lord...

One of these days I’m gonna’ have to really pick their brain about a few things in terms of RPing and writing just to see how our thoughts align and differ. 

And Hanako, man. Vick put in research I wish I put into my Japanese-esque characters back when I was RPing them. Seriously, this guy makes me wish I kept Amber as Kohaku and just bucked up and did my research on Japanese stuff. Honestly makes me want to redo my old Rambling on ethnicity. Admittedly, I know Vick more from my interactions with my delinquent character than Clauds here, but I recommend them all the same.

You’d think given my hate-boner for OP characters and general bitching about power levels I’d hate writing with a character that was essential a universe-destroying witch. Well... I don’t blame you all for thinking such, but Jeanne is probably the one exception I’ll make, and maybe the only one too. I can’t really explain it myself, I just like how entertaining she is as a character. The charisma, the arrogance, it’s all good stuff to me. Taking an ‘all powerful airhead’ approach to an intimidating character isn’t knew, but it really works for Jeanne. 

Admittedly, I haven’t RPed enough with Jeanne-mun for any real plot or conflict to happen, but I’m looking forward to plotting something. Maybe bringing back Titty War for real this time? Who knows, only time will tell.

YOOOOSHIIIIIII!!!!

Man, Chaser, it was a blast from the goddamn past seeing you on my dash again. When Aster gave that promo and I saw you’re blog I HAD to see how things were going. Haven’t seen you since I left the Falcon Knights blog. 

Ah, but old partners aside, Chaser is probably one of the few people to actually intimidate me as a writer. Okay, intimidate isn’t the right word. Chaser makes me... question how I portray my characters, as since how seriously I take them. I make it no secret that I don’t tend to take my own (RP) characters too seriously. This is usually because I save the seriousness for when I do actual story-writing, and to keep myself from getting obsessively attach to my characters. 

And... well, Allen is a shounen-obsessed action whore, so... y’know.

But anyway, with Chaser and reading some of their stuff for Yoshi, I... feel like I disrespecting their approach with my own. The thought put into Yoshi and all Chaser’s characters is something I can really feel the heart in, as dark as some of those developments get sometimes. Back when I was still active on the Falcon Knight blog I felt so bad for how serious Yoshi took her relationship with FK while the two members she was closest to didn’t act the same way. It was in character, but it honestly torn me up on the inside a little.

My misgivings aside, Chaser’s a great RPer and recommend all you guys follow them.

I... honestly have nothing in depth to say about Imu-mun. While I’m personally not familiar with Legend of Mana, seeing Imu’s character makes me wanna’ try the game out somehow. 

I think Imu and Claudia have a good dynamic, both warriors of high skill, both favoring a spear, both lesbians. I think Imu’s more abrasive and blunt nature would balance out Claudia’s friendly and polite nature... when she’s not in Demon Knight Mode anyway. And... y’know, another lesbian spear warrior is always welcomed. Allen’s also a yuri fanboy trash after all.

And last, but definitely not least, Glyph. Like with Chaser, I feel a bit intimidated by Glyph the same way I do with Chaser... well there’s a bit of a difference. While the heart behind Chaser’s writing intimidates me, the power behind Glyph way of writing Anima honestly makes me hesitate to plot with, despite having a whole AU based around their relationship of knight and empress...

Jokes aside though, I specifically mean Anima’s position of power compared to Claudia’s intimidates me. Glyph’s writing aside, my intimidation here is for more mechanical reasons that just Allen being a shy guy. I researched a good deal about knights a few years ago, but I didn’t get much information on their direct interaction with royalty like Anima, so keeping Clauds in character around her is a bit of a challenge. Now I can obviously just do the research now, but... well, work’s been sucking my life away at the moment and poking as Aster, Rei, and Imu-mun with Claudia’s big spear is a bit easier than poking Glyph. 

Anyway, I enjoy reading a lot of what Anima does, and seeing someone competently write someone of power always interests and impresses me. Go give this one a follow!

I know I’m technically missing one more person, but again, I’m picky with who I interact with, so... I’m a little high and dry in that regard. And... I have to admit, calling you all by your mun names feels really weird. Like, now I know why we use to call people [Muse]-mun a few years back. This feels like I’m being way too casually, and I’m the guy that’s purposely using Allen as an alias.

Blue Exorcist Theory #1

This in an old theory of mine from before chapter 90 came out. I posted it on The Blue Knight forum months ago but since the site is currently “down” I thought about posting it here. WARNINGS: I’m a talkative freak and my English is... *cough*

Dear crescenti-C, here it is! :)

As for chapter 89's last pages, we're left with Yukio confronting Rin, the first visibly pissed at the latter's lack of curiosity toward their origins. Ok, I'll take it from here.

I highly doubt that Yukio is gonna gain something out of this confrontation. Unable to get a real explanation out of his bro as to why he doesn't care that much about discovering the truth behind their birth, Yukio (in a fit of anger) will get out of bed and make his way off the room. Rin could try to stop him (as he's standing near the door) and will at least ask him where is he going, but will get no real answer. Seeing how much Yukio is irritated, he'll decide to let him be.

After Suguro and co. fly to Kyoto, Yukio may try to meet Lightning in private in order to get from him some info about what happened at the monastery (using his smart talking style and so on) and taking advantage of the fact that Suguro (and Shima=the Illuminati pressure) are away. Yukio starts off declaring that he suspects that Lightning is investigating something related to his and Rin's past, that's why he went to the monastery. I do believe that Yukio is smart enough to have guessed that the priest (Misumi) died coz of the Morinas contract's demon who killed him and not for natural causes as officially stated (we're never shown Yukio approaching Misumi's coffin neither before or after overhearing that Lightning was at the monastery the morning the guy died, but it's not hard for me to imagine, after hearing that, that Yukio may have gone back to where Misumi's coffin is placed to take a look at his neck and find out the symbol of the contract). Anyway, If that's the case, that would mean that the guy was keeping some secret and was forced to reveal it, thus breaking the contract and having the demon take his life (Yukio himself has a Morinas contract on him, so he knows how it works). And the one who forced him to break that contract was... Lightning. Lightning may be impressed by the way Yukio puts together all the pieces. He could laugh at his face and compliment him. At this point, Yukio asks Lightning if what he's truly investigating is the Blue Night incident.

At this point I do think that Lightning may be "tempted" to talk to Yukio about what he learned so far about Asylum and Section 13, he could even be somewhat "amazed" by Yukio's talent and could like the idea to have him join the investigation in a active way. But, I don't think he will accept to let Yukio actually join (the Okumura bros are part of the equation too, afterall). At this point, Lightning will decline Yukio's offer to help him investigate the Blue Night and will take his leave from him. We will be shown an amused Mephisto watching the whole scene from a distance. Yukio, at this point, may receive a call and be reminded that the exorcists exams' day is about to approach and he has to reunite with the other teachers in order to organize matters. This will keep Yukio's mind busy for a lil while.

There's a time skip and we finally get to the day of the infamous exorcist exam. Like, now this could be a perfect chance to fk everything up :D What I pictured in my head is that in this day, the exwires and all of the teachers reunite in a place to run a "final test" (*insert any kind of test you'd expect to see for a exorcist exam*). The Kyoto trio is back, and Shiemi may show up just to support her friends in the day they may officially become exorcists. Things between Rin and Yukio are still awkward. Shura notices something. Lightning is there too (btw, is he still one of the cram school's teachers? We're not shown him teaching lessons for a while now, so I'm not sure). Mephisto obviously is there too. And he obviously has a plan.

Mephisto knows that Yukio has shared a conversation with Lightning (he obviously knows that it was about the Blue Night). At this point, with the official excuse of "restraining Yukio before he gets to discover -too much- on his own" Mephisto sets in motion his plan. Toward the end of the exam, some True Cross "agents" (*insert a role here*) show up announcing they've been sent by the Grigori with the order to put Okumura Yukio under arrest. GENERAL SHOCK. Without adding any detail, the "agents" proceeds to take Yukio into custody. Rin watches the scene in total awe, as everyone else. Yukio is left speechless but looks like he's about to burst. As the agents approaches him, Shura loses it and asks em what is Yukio exactly accused of. They finally declare that Okumura Yukio is put under arrest for having been found "unclear" during some of his latest "daily tests". Being the son of Satan's brother but having only recently developed a change in his "genes", the Grigori wish to keep him in isolation as a potential threat, also to better analyze the situation. At this, everyone is even more shocked.

Yukio knows for sure that what the agents are stating is not true, but he's mixed with having doubts (since his genes may have finally started to "mutate" due to his demonic powers) or... that being all Mephisto's doing! He stares at Mephisto from a distance with a blank expression and find his confirmation in Mephisto's amused grin. In that moment, Yukio recalls Lucifer's words (about him lacking protection and risking to be held captive in case the secret of his eyes was found out... or worse, even executed) and starts to inwardly panick. Rin finally snaps and tries to stop the agent who's bringing Yukio away. He screams out that it's impossible that Yukio possesses any demonic power and that there's no reason to take him away like that. He tries his best to defend Yukio. At this, Yukio recalls that same old memory of his big bro protecting him when they were kids. At this, anger builds up and as Rin is still interceding for him, Yukio screams: "Stay out of it! THIS IS MY PROBLEM!" Rin is taken aback. After a moment he asks Yukio if it's ok for him if they arrest him with that accuse. Rin: "I mean, it's not true that you possess Satan's power. They're lying ..." Yukio: "... and what if they're not?" *insert Yukio's evil glare* *Rin instantly paralyzes*

In the general silence, the agents keeps to bring Yukio away. But... Lightning makes his move and helps him... evade! Yukio is not willing to accept Lightning's help at first, but the guy jumps close to him, enough to whisper him that he got a plan. Yukio, confused and slightly scared for his fate, decides to trust him and runs away while Lightning keeps the agents busy.

Mephisto is ok with this, though. With no place for him anymore into the True Cross Order (being now a fugitive and all), prolly this situation will finally force Yukio to knock at the Illuminati's door, as he secretely desires.

The agents start chasing Yukio. The situation eventually sets down. The first to show some kind of reaction is Shura which walks towards Mephisto and grabs him by his neck. She asks him if this is all his doing. Mephisto, to calm her, confess (even if it's not true) that he organized that plan in order to protect Yukio from the Illuminati which have been secretely trying to recruit him. Suguro glares at Shima, who simply flashes him his trademark smile. Rin is in total shock. A few hrs drop by and the exwires are back in the cram school and are still trying to process the situation. Shiemi tries to confort Rin, alongside the others. In  that moment, one of the teachers enters the room to announce the results of the exams. Everyone is promoted to Exorcist rank in their respective Meisters. But no one feels like celebrating at all.

Mephisto makes his appearance and congratulates the students. He announces that he got his first mission for em as official exorcists... the mission carries a direct order from the Grigori emselves...

And... The Yukio Rescue Arc officially begins!

Mephisto is accompanied by Lightning, who was previously summoned by the Grigori for an explanation as to why he "helped" Yukio run away. Lightning tells the exwires, pardon, now EXORCISTS that the reason he "approached" Yukio was to mark him with a "sylph bell" (the same thing he used on Shima to keep track of his movements). -- Lightning managed to convince the Grigori he wasn't purposely helping Yukio make his run. Btw, after succeding in becoming a exorcist, Rin finally fulfilled the main condition that the Grigori put on him, so he's now officially "recognized" as a weapon of the Order and thus 100% an ally of it.. -- Since this will be the first official mission for the exorcists, Lightning (also cause he's the one in control of the sylph, thus he's the only one who can track its location) is assigned to the group as a "special guest support and supervisor". The role of leader is assigned to Miwa (for the strategic capabilities he showed during the exam, making him the "captain" of the group in place of Yukio). Mephisto declares that he had to work hard in order to persuade the Grigori into not being too harsh toward Yukio for his demeanor. After a long debate, the Grigori eventually accepted to show some "clemency", but on one condition. The Grigori specifically request for Rin, as Yukio's brother, to convince him to surrender to the "capture order" on his own will (the Grigori want to test Rin's loyalty to the Order).

If Yukio will cooperate, the Grigori will not "punish" him for his escape and simply take him into custody as initially planned. Also, being the leader of the mission, Miwa will be held responsible in case of any eventual suspect activity (the Grigori trust that the group will not take wild initiatives knowing that this will result in a punishment for their own friend). That being said, the mission begins. Shiemi wishes good luck to the team before they set for their journey. Tracking down the sylph, Lightning guides the group till they reach the middle of some giant forest infested of demons. (take into consideration that a few hrs went by) At some point, Lightning states that he's having some trouble tracking the "signal" of his sylph. So the group pauses for a while. During this time, they have some talk. Suguro watches Rin and can't help but notice how he's been awfully quiet and collected since Yukio's escape. Suguro remembers when Rin tried to "cheer him up" back when they discovered Shima was a spy. So he walks toward Rin and tries to comfort him (also to repay him for his help). At first, Rin doesn't open up but at some point , he snaps and screams out what it's really troubling him.

Of all things, he feels like he just hasn't done enough. He knew that Yukio was hiding something, but he never did enough to prove him that he could be considered someone to count on. When Yukio screamed to him to stay out of the way (back when the agents were arresting him) and seconds later "confirmed" that the Grigori's accuse was right, Rin, for the first time, felt like he couldn't recognize his own brother. Rin blames himself that things turned that way. He was so shocked he could do nothing but watch his brother been taken away. Meanwhile, Lightning heard it all from where he's standing. He's stricken by Rin's words and his genuine show of humanity (something which Lightning loves). Rin is so in the mood to share his feelings that he ends up mentioning that lil "argument" over the truth behind his and Yukio's birth that the bros had days before. At this point, Rin mentions that, even if he feels sorry for Yukio... he has a reason for not wanting to touch that matter. Lightning can't help but walk toward him and pry: "What do you mean...?"

Flashback time: back when he was a kid, after Yukio enquired for yet another time his and his brother's birth circumstances, Rin accidentally heard Shiro talk over the phone to someone. Shiro says something like "I want you to get rid of any information about it. Don't keep it hidden, simply destroy it. Yeah... He keeps asking about it. And we can't risk that one day HE finds out the truth. Yukio MUST NOT ever know!"

Rin didn't know what Shiro was really talking about, but the serious look over his face made him believe it was something quite terrible. So, through not feeding Yukio's curiosity, he was somehow trying to protect Yukio, in his own way. Lightning's eyes literally widen. Eventually, the sylph starts giving off his signal again. But at some point, the signal stops moving. The group reaches the area but... only the sylph is found there. Everyone assumes that Yukio got rid of it and run away. With no clues as to which way he may have run to, the group has no choice but to make its way back to the Academy.

Meanwhile, Shura, who was left in the Academy, paid a visit to the medical equipe which was running the daily tests on Yukio... She asks one of the doctors to do her a lil favor... and to keep it a secret.

Miwa and Lightning go to report to the Grigori. After they're done, Lightning departs from Miwa and uses a key to access a special room... and... Yukio's there! --- The special room is located in a place that Mephisto's power should not be able to reach (or possesses a special aura that keeps it from being "sensed" by him *insert what you prefer* I imagine something like a room the Vatican HQ used in a very far past, before Mephisto joined the Order. They used to use it in order to discuss special matters w/out the risk of being "heard" or "seen" by the Ba'al. Ok... *insert what you prefer*). As Lightning walks toward Yukio, we discover that Lightning "slipped" a copy of that key into one of Yukio's pockets back when he helped him run away from the agents. With something like a flashback, we're shown the moment Lightning told Yukio he got a plan to help him escape. He summoned the sylph and simply whispered Yukio to let it guide him. The sylph showed Yukio the way to a safe place with an abandoned building, he then used the key to enter that room. The sylph separated from him and hid itself in the forest, where Rin and co. found it.

Lightning and Yukio share a long talk. Lightning asks Yukio if it's true that he's developing some demonic power, as the Grigori states. Yukio answers that he's not sure. Lightning notices a weird look on Yukio's face. He then asks Yukio why he wants to investigate the Blue Night. Yukio is taken aback but this question. Lightning then asks if what Yukio is really interested in is uncovering the truth behind his and his brother birth. At first, Yukio doesn't say anything. Then, he states that he thinks it's only natural wanting to know something like that. Especially in his and Rin's case. At this point, Lightning looks into Yukio's eyes and asks him if he craves power. Yukio is in shock. Lightning keeps up his inquiry and asks him if he's actually envious of his brother (and HIS power). Still more shock for Yukio. He finally asks him: "Why are you so shocked? Maybe I asked the wrong question... Let me try again... Is it actually his DEMONIC side what you're envious of or... maybe it's his HUMAN side?". *dun dun dun* I expect Lightning to laugh loud and hard after this, just to break the tension of the moment. He finally tells Yukio that, unfortunetely, he can't allow Yukio to help him out with the Blue Night investigation. Yukio is like: "WHAT??" (obviously, Lightning wants to keep Yukio away from the truth because of what Rin said during their previous mission. All he knows, is that Shiro wanted Yukio to absolutely stay away of it. Lightning doesn't know why, but wants to find out on his own) For the time being, Lightning tells Yukio to stay hidden in the special room. Yukio tries to argue, but Lightning approaches the door and makes his leave. --- A couple days pass by, and Rin and friends got to take care of some minor tasks, like dispatch some low level demons. They're sometimes dispatched to check on the barriers. No big missions at all. One day Rin stops by the supply's shop for an order he's been sent to pick up and has a chat with Shiemi. There're no news about Yukio, but even if the rescue mission was a total failure, Mephisto somehow managed to get the Grigori to leave it on stand by. Lately the barriers had been quite unstable, so all the exorcists were requested to not leave the Academy and to be prepared to take care of any slip off. Shiemi believes that Yukio is allright and tries to confort Rin. After a while, Shiemi accompanies Rin to the exit of the shop. Amaimon is watching the scene from a distance. Lightning is wondering around the cram school corridors with a bag when he's approached by Suguro. The guy has no doubts that his "master" is keeping Yukio hidden somewhere and says it aloud. Lightning smiles and asks him to not make such accusations so lighly in the middle of the place where they were standing. Suguro peeks over his own shoulder to verify if anyone is watching em. Lightning asks him to relax and simply states that everything's under control. He adds that even their investigation about the Blue Night may be approaching his final stage very soon. He then resumes walking. Suguro asks him where is he going and Lightning answers that he got an appointment with a certain someone. As Lightning is walking past Suguro, he peeks at the bag for a sec and notices something (in particular, that there're 2 hamburgers, but we're not shown this). Lightning gave Suguro a hint on purpose.

Flashback right after Lightning has made his report to the Grigori with Miwa and before he goes to see Yukio in the room where he's keeping him hidden: while he's walking out of HQ, Lightning  takes his leave from Miwa and is approached by Shura who tells him he got something to talk to him about. They walk into a special room, which Shura opens with one of her keys. She then throws a few papers over a table placed in front of her. The papers are copies of Yukio's tests proving that nothing's wrong with the results and he's 100% still human. Shura throws over the same table a copy of the test proving that Yukio got something off in the map of his genes (the copy which the Grigori agents were talking about when they accused him).

To be sure, after Yukio ran away when the agents tried to arrest him, Shura walked back to the dorms in search of some samples she could use in order to run a new test. She handed the samples to a couple medical equipe doctors of her trust (from two different branches than the Japan's) and got from both of em the same results. Yukio got nothing demonic in his body. But... as Lightning is watching the papers... something on the copy testifying that Yukio got some demonic genes catches his attention. Right beneath Yukio's generalities is written: 005. *dun dun dun* Lightning checks the same data on all the other copies provided from Shura. But... that single data is not present in neither of em. Those particular numbers remind him of something... and a flashback plays in his mind. While Shura is still talking, she catches a glimpse of the mutated expression over Lightning's face. Before she can ask him something, Lightning asks her if she can do him a favor. Flashback's over. Lightning reaches a door and opens it. Yukio is sitting on the floor, bracing his own legs, apparentely sleeping. Lightning walks toward him and puts the bag right beside him, picking something up from it. The sound of the plastic bag awakens Yukio. Lightning flashes him a smile and sits right in front of him, across of him. Yukio says nothing. Lightning unfolds the hamburger he retrieved from the bag and starts eating it. The room is hot (it's a special room w/out any windows or air vent valves). Yukio stares at the bag and notices that there's an other hamburger in it, which Lightning brought for him, alongside some change of clothes (which he states had Suguro wash, so they were clean). Lightning asks Yukio if he got a chance during the last days to cool off his mind (then he laughs at his own words. Afterall, that room was WAY too hot to help cool anything). Yukio says nothing. After a while, he starts talking.

Yukio recalls the time when Rin acknowledged himself as the son of Satan (after the fight with the Impure King). That was the moment a painful realization played in his mind: no matter all he ever accomplished throughout his life, in the end Yukio didn't know who he was. No matter what, he was still unable to define his own identity. Lightning listens to his words, and after a while states that, for starters, that's one thing he can say he is for sure: a human. Yukio's expression slightly changes. Lightning adds that the answer to what he was looking for is right beneath his eyes, he just can't see it.

Lightning tells Yukio that he's lived his whole life trapped in the middle of his human and "demonic" side. So he thinks that Yukio can take his next advice for good. Finding one's own identity is about looking at something from more than a single point of view. And if one is unable to do it on its own, then it takes someone who helps you enlarge your vision. Lightning is sure that even Rin was helped by someone to reach his realization (in fact, thinking about Shiemi and the others helped him). Lightning says that even him was helped to pick which side to fight for from someone. His grandfather. At this point, Lightning starts asking Yukio about Shiro and if he trusted him. In the end, Lightning asks Yukio if he would be willing to give up finding out about his past in order to find out who he really is. --- An other day at the cram school. Rin is walking along a corridor when he's approached by Lightning. Lightning tells him that he was just looking for him. The Grigori assigned Lightning the task to fill a record about Yukio so Lightning thought that Rin, being his brother, could help him gather some data. Rin freezes in place. Lightning tries to break his tension stating that he just needs to ask him some minor questions. They reach a cafeteria. Rin asks how the investigation is going (Lightning has been assigned exclusively to the case after the rescue mission) but Lightning keeps it vague. Rin is visibly worried. Lightning starts asking him about the data he needed in order to fill the last of the record.

The questions range from Yukio's shoe size, his diopters, his favorite color, his favorite manga genre, his fav pastimes, his type of girl... (Rin can't help but wonder how these infos can help with the investigation at all)... and in the end... his favorite food. At this, Rin answers that Yukio's fav food is sashimi. Lightning's lil grin turns into a big smile and he states that he'd like to have some of that. He adds that he heard from Suguro that Rin is a good cook, so he'd like Rin to personally cook him some sashimi. And since he's feeling particularly hungry, he'd like to have TWO rations of it. At this, Rin takes a better look at Lightning's expression and doesn't fail to notice the lil grin the man flashes him. Rin instantily realizes what Lightning is indirectly trying to tell him... Finally feeling reassured after having been worried about Yukio's whereabouts for the last days, Rin smiles himself and offers Lightning to cook him some sashimi back in the dorms.

That same evening, Lightning reaches the secret room where Yukio is hiding. As he enters it, he states that he got somthing delicious for him to eat. Yukio is looking a whole lot better now, also wearing the change of clothes that Lightning brought him. Before handing him the bag he's carrying, Lightning asks him if he's still sure about the plan they're putting up. Yukio straight answers that he's ready to set it into motion, his eyes full of confidence. At this, Lightning puts the bag next to Yukio. He states that he thought Yukio might have grown tired of those hamburgers, so he got him something more of his taste. Yukio opens the bag to catch the sight of a familiar bento box...

So, it has come to this now. I have to actually write about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) or 1984 Not 2020...

After weeks of panic and the mass media shoving this whole thing down our throat I went and did a little research of my own.

Now ALL my data comes from the official CDC website and NBCnews.com. I did not go looking for counteracting data or visit any other websites for data.

I mean, we are all supposed to trust the .gov or .org websites for the most part, right? I am being sarcastic here, but yes, we should look at this as fact unless someone/somewhere comes with better data.

This data is based on estimates. I did not do any other fumbling of numbers. I took the data directly from the website(s).

It should be noted that there were no stats available for symptomatic for age ranges or any other variables.

Like, if they were children, elderly or all people prone to infection, easily. Yeah, none of that.

ALL THE STATS here are Worldwide, all are considered estimates.

It's not like how it looks on Snapchats, or maybe I just went to a dead party but I don't think that was the case. I went early which I realized was a mistake. Nothing really started till 10:45. Fastforward sitting in the corner while girls in shorts and tanks huddle in cliques waiting for someone to approach them. I did my introductions, none of them invited me into their huddled circles. Fastforward more sitting, more talking to people around me--names I don't forget, but I guess I'm a name that people forget. I’ve never had alcohol before. My heart is beating beating beating beating ! ! ! I look it up on WebMD and WebMD says I’m okay and you already know WebMD doesn’t lie. Shit is sizzling down my throat and slushing its way into an empty stomach. I down 8 shots for some reason, actually there is a reason. He’s an easy guy to talk to. Cue a future accidental date with him. Apparently you're not supposed to mix lights and darks, which no one really told me, 'cept the guy who offered me a chaser-- the star of the show: mango juice (which I proceeded to vomit in various places, the restroom inside the apartment, the restroom near the swimming pool, the trashcan bag outside of my dorm e.t.c.). I guess 8 shots is a lot. I didn't eat that day b/c I was studying for the upcoming mid-term and surprisingly I didn't get as f*cked up as people like to portray, or maybe I'm not as lightweight as I thought I'd be. Or Maybe I got it from my dad. Still could think straight, remember people's names as they slip into unconsciousness blubbering about power rangers or something. No drunk texts going out, no one to text anyway about this.  There's nothing good to share, except a terrible experience, as this girl (one of the people hosting the party)--______,standard Korean beauty.., red-faced and less-shy than her sober self rubs your elbow and asks if you're okay, if you liked the party, if it was fun. Yes, no, and no. She's too close to say no so I nod and give a reassuring smile. The party's too early to be over but it is. People ask if I have a ride, I say I do and that's that. People clear out, others stay and chat.. but I'm just drunk walking down a dark street waiting for the lyft. Holding a red cup of water, my trusty bag, and my head.

I lyft home lugging a large garbage bag I asked the partyhosters if I could borrow (thought i'd cherish it as a keepsake...hah). Get to outside my dorm and sit on a bench and pathetically vomit shit into the bag. I don't quite make it to actually opening the bag so it almost serves as a tissue as the vomit just smears across my face. Mmm mango delight. I guess the pros of not eating and drinking is that nothing that entirely yucky comes up. An RA comes a long, sits down with me for a hot second, just to see if I'm okay. I'm okay. Physically not, mentally tired and ready to go to bed.

Get into my dorm walk around a little bit before I actually key into my room. Later walk down the same hallway and see marks trekked on the carpet and I think which fucking frat boy vomited these stains and my half-fazed brain realizes it was my dumb ass bag I've been lugging around like a 3 year old toddler on my back. The vomit must have either leaked through or had always been at the bottom. Yikes. Fastforward to now (10:30 am) still feel like shit, but in a different sense, not the fk my life fk this party that was so fking terrible sort of impending vomiting sense but the empty stomach soul-searching terrible sort of sense. My roommate doesn't care. I wish she did. I listened to her issues and now she wants to transfer rooms. It's fine. I'll just lament by myself then. Go to more parties as a lone stranger. Leave as a lone stranger.

Despite my Freshman/Senior English teacher (a stick-thin Asian woman with impeccable skin who pretty much deep-fried anxiety into me, I’m not even kidding :( ) deducting a point on my essays for each comma used wrong, I still don’t know how these hooked things work and at at this point I’m too scared to ask. I’m not saying I wasn’t a fool as a Freshman (as all Freshman are, invariably) but Freshman year I had cried in the corner in her class, sniffles and everything, while the rest of the class worked on their tests(let’s call it a combination of bad luck with Shakespeare and my test getting crumpled by her...), been handed a referral, that stupid ass pink slip, gotten rekt in a mock-interview exercise (b/c apparently a hat twisted back over my head and a beige frock isn’t a convincing outfit for Elizabeth Bennet... but like.. I didn’t think there were standards to begin with), and interrogated in annotation audits for Crime and Punishment and Hamlet despite students furiously scribbling on post-its behind her. All flashbulb memories. And what do you know. She’s a cat lady with a cat instagram. (It does feel kind of nice that I sort of got her approval in the end though..:>) It only took a few instances of public berating to get it and a half-baked understanding of commas.
