Unless public defenders work differently in Fantasy High, Sklonda is not a public defender. She’s a defense attorney. Unless the implication is the guy accused of embezzlement has no money. Yes, I know you can’t knowingly accept ill-gotten gains as payment, but you’re telling me this man has no untainted assets?

That’s what public defenders are for. No money = public defender. The whole “if you can not afford an attorney one will be provided for you”. But the festival hasn’t even happened yet. Unless this is a previous festival he embezzled from, but why would he be able set up another one? If he has no money.

Also how did she go from studying law to being a lawyer in a year? Are there just less laws in Elmvile?

The idea that as a public defender Sklonda would only have one case is hilarious. Public defenders famously have way more. In fact they have 3x the amount of cases than they should be handling. Source.

But the reason I bring this up. For one thing, I’m pedantic as all hell. But I really hate the image defense attorneys have gotten in modern culture. Which is not D20 fault and I doubt they know they are playing into it. Defense attorneys are good, actually. You need defense attorneys. Are there shitty defense attorneys? Sure, but there are also shitty teachers, nurses, and doctors. Most defense attorneys are fine people. Like the people defending your rights in criminal trials in front of the Supreme Court are usually defense attorneys. It’s not longer a public defender. It’s usually a defense attorney who specializes in SCOTUS cases. Go read about John Paul Frank who defended Miranda in Miranda v. Arizona and won you those Miranda Rights.

thinking about it tho… yakumo would actually be devastated if rin pulled the same shit he did on edmond and dante with him. all his insecurities, the reasons he feels he isn’t deserving of love, casually and carelessly laid out by the person he loves more than anything in the world. it would leave him absolutely heartbroken.

eiden always told him that he loves yakumo no matter what. that he loves him with his flaws, not in spite of them. and eiden’s opinion means more to him than anyone else’s in the whole world. he was the first person who, with no obligation to treat yakumo kindly and look out for him, did so anyways. he loves eiden with all his heart.

but then for ‘eiden’ to turn around and sudden call attention to all of his shortcomings in a negative way?? his jealousy, his crybaby tendencies, the power he was born with that he can’t control, his serpentine features, how anxious he is, how emotionally driven he is… it would just re-enforce yakumo’s belief that eiden was lying to him the whole time out of pity, to make him feel better.

because ‘eiden’ is right. all of those nagging fears he’s carried since childhood that were relentlessly drilled into him through violence were right. how could someone possibly love him the way he is?? and how could he be so foolish to actually believe that??

i feel like, similar to blade, he wouldn’t be able to notice that the ‘eiden’ in front of him isn’t actually the real eiden. all he would be able to focus on is the fact that the person he loves more than anything is hurting him, and he has no idea why. it would definitely take another clan member, or even better eiden himself, to make him realize that the real eiden would never say such hurtful things to yakumo, because he loves yakumo. just as much as he loves eiden.
