More realistic Yellowjackets hcs
•Van is squeamish af. She nearly threw up when just talking about Allie's leg in the pilot, and she almost throws up everytime you finally get to pick a movie and you go for a horror thing.
• Shauna would be one of those girls that could never pick what to eat. She would drag you to hell and back before she'd finally just go with one of the same three restaurants she always chooses. Even though she always picks the same she still wants you to suggest every place in town before she reaches a conclusion.
• Nat and Van overshare with each other. If you're with either one of them you will get smug looks from the other.
• Nat and Van also share their porn stash. Van has the decency to hide it but Nat just leaves her magazines on her night stand. You only ever knew she shared them with Van because you saw one of their trades. Nat tucked a folded up mag into the back of her pants. Van hid hers in the bottom of her schoolbag. You cringed so hard when you realised that's what they were doing. Nat stole them during a house party and Van let curiosity get the better of her and long story short they'd been trading them all year until you found out and used the rolled up magazine to beat Natalie over the head with.
• Van absolutely tries to build a house out of breadsticks every time you take her out to a restaurant for dinner.
• She tries to make an igloo out of waffles.
• You're on the team, on Away games and you share a room with Nat. She climbs on the bed and rocks it back and forth making it squeak and makes moaning sounds when you're on the phone with your mom. If Van is there she will join in but she will be blushing the whole time.
• Trying to get closer to Taissa involves being forced to take part in her morning constitutionals. Only her morning constitutionals involve 45 minute morning runs. And her legs are so long you are constantly trailing behind, and with her, everything is a competition so she straight up leaves you in the dust. You've gotten lost in her neighbourhood multiple times when she's left you behind to run ahead.
• Jackie's inviting you to weeknight dinners with her parents and expecting you to sit idly by while they passive aggressively destroy your confidence. She gives you yours back though after dinner when she lets you top her on her frilly bedsheets.
• Jackie makes you leave her house after dinner, get in your car, drive to the house next door, out of sight, then sneak back and climb up to her window to hit it.
• Sitting in a pew in the back of Laura Lee's church, your hand resting on the stretch of wood between you. You scratch your chin and return it absentmindedly only to find her hand is also resting between you...her pinkie is close enough to touch. You breathe heavily as you ghost your finger against it only for her to react by parting her fingers. Not a lot, but just enough to interlink your pinkies. Your heart is thumping so loud you swear the whole congregation is aware of it. You stare forward, your eyes glazed over as the priest chants Κύριε Ελέησον.
• After church one day, you hang back with Laura Lee as your parents all mingle with other members of the church. The two of you climb to the second floor, way in the back, and lie down on one of the pews, head to head. You look up at her, and she looks up at you and smiles. It's the same pious smile she always gives you but this time you swear her gaze fixes on your lips a moment.
Her parents call her over to go home and she sits up abruptly and waves at you as she bounces nervously away.
• Akilah spends most of her free time with family. Her older sister and her husband both work, so she and her mom get saddled with babysitting her nephew a lot. She sits around the house watching tv and doing homework with a baby on her lap most days. She's supposed to put him down but he's sooooo cute she just can't bring herself to.
When he's a little older, you two sneak him his first bit of chocolate. Well, less sneak, more he reaches over and shoves your entire ice cream down his throat at six months. He doesn't get to the cone before Akilah pulls him away but half your scoop is gone with him. Akilah apologises profusely but you just laugh. She offers to buy you another ice cream and you suggest a rain check. Your first date is an ice cream date when she's no longer grounded for letting him have ice cream at six months. He was fine though.
• Mari doesn't have nieces or nephews yet but she has so many cousins and they all get together and play soccer at family get-togethers. She is not the only one in that family who's on a soccer team but she's the only one who's going to nationals so the competition is stiff with all her cousins competing against her to prove they're all just as good. You may not be the best but she starts dragging you to all of these get togethers so the two of you can ratio her entire family together.
She normally wears jumpers and ties her hair up and stuff but her family notices that she dresses in way more form-fitting clothes and lets her hair down when you start coming to these things and ALL make fun of her for it. I'm talking little baby cousins who look up at her and make kissy faces behind your back and you feel a breeze when you turn your head, and hear the thud of a couch cushion hitting a seven year old at full force.
Oh no, her cousin spilled some juice on you now. Guess she has to bring you to her room, alone, and give you something to change into. You hear another Thwack behind your back as she ushers you down this hallway to the back.
A few cousins grin at you both through the window so she rushes to shut the blinds... She's red as fuck at this point. You're in her room and it's the designated coat room so she pushes a big pile of coats off to the side so you can sit down. She rummages through her closet and finds something that's lowkey a little revealing but she realises her whole family will see you in this so she reaches for a turtleneck instead. It's way too hot though so she just grabs a yellowjackets tee and hands you that and pretends to look around her own room while you change.
• She sniffs it when she gets it back.
• Melissa wears her hat backwards so she can be more easily identifiable as a skater. She's the only girl skater in the school but she doesn't get that much shit for it because she's also a jock on the soccer team that's going to nationals.
• She absolutely tries to rizz you up while skating around you.
• She absolutely loses her focus and eats shit while trying to hit on you.
• You give her your number out of pity.
• She writes your number down on her arm and then uses that part of her arm to wipe the sweat off her brow.
• You realise she's not playing dumb for the bit but you give her a shot anyway. You spend a disproportionate amount of time applying bandages on her and talking her off dumb stunts.
• Had there been any flat surfaces in the wilderness she could have used to skate on, she would have been the first to die.
• Gen...fuck it I don't know shit about Gen. Maybe she's a ninja. Yeah.
• latchkey kid with one of those dogs that's small enough to fit in a bag. It's fluffy and smol. She brings it on dates and feeds it breadsticks when her date isn't looking.
• Gen likes to dress that dog up in funky little outfits. Sometimes she matches it. Has a box full of pictures of her dressing her dog up.
• Misty can and will drag you into the equipment room for some alone time at school.
• Still plays doctor. Doesn't realise that the objective is not to heal the patient but to get close to the patient and feel them up. On the upside she has a full nurse costume. Not a sexy nurse costume, an accurate replica of a nurse costume. So accurate she's banned from wearing it at the local free clinic. Because 12 year old Misty tried to wear it to the clinic the way kids wear princess costumes to Disneyland.
• Van and Natalie subscribe to the sniff test. These jeans Nat's wearing were at the bottom of her used clothes pile but it doesn't matter because they passed the sniff test. Can Van pull off wearing that hoodie for a third day in a row? Yes, because it passed the sniff test. Sniff test.
• Van and Nat have burping contests outside Denny's at 3 am.
• Misty goes to sleep at 8pm every night. Even Laura Lee thinks that's way too early and she has a strict self-imposed bedtime at 10:30.
• Jackie's skincare routine takes the better part of the night.
• Shauna makes you sleep on the floor because she kicks in her sleep and it's her bed so...
• Lottie can come up with an excuse for shit at the drop of a hat. Usually it's excuses for why you shouldn't leave her house and why you should stay over. Lately she's been using excuses to get away from you though and it's worrying you. Nevermind she just wanted space to throw you a surprise party. Wholesome ass.

fics and posts of note!
if yellowjackets enthusiast is my second job (it is) then, within that, fic writing is my day job and tumblr rambling is my moonlighting, so here's easy access to my fics and to my more involved posts!
current status: okay SO i absolutely feel the need to try and finish abmb before s3 airs. so i am going to try and whip out the last (3? 4?) chapters of that before updating my other WIPs. that said i never actually know what i'm going to do until it's happening so who knows! i'm just glad my six month abmb hiatus has officially been ended with that last update <3 and my personal life has chilled some, so i am writing again <3 —9/21
likely order of updates: abmb, fences, resurrection —9/21
works in progress
x always be my baby (~350k)
All the living yellowjackets are forced together when someone decides to unearth their past. Tensions rise, past relationships are revealed, and new ones are forged in a reunion that no one asked for (except maybe Misty).
explicit / post-s1 canon-divergence / primarily adult timeline
x fences need mending (~38k)
Every decision that Jackie and Shauna had ever made—together and separately, in anger and in love, for themselves and for each other—had led them to this exact moment, a dreary October morning in the intensive care unit of NewYork-Presbyterian.
explicit / no crash au / dual timeline
x we practice resurrection every night (~22k)
A series of moments based pre, during, and post 1996 canon, centered around Jackie and Shauna, accounting for the huge, rippling impact of one small change: the Holmdel bust goes differently. Shauna ends up walking home with Jackie instead of Jeff.
explicit / jackie lives au / slice of life
complete (multichap)
x she shines me up like gold (~12k)
Jackie convinces Shauna to wear something a little different than her usual to Van and Taissa's Halloween party.
explicit / no crash au / mid-twenties
x you're just a bee charmer (~53k)
When Jeff dumps Jackie right before winter break, Shauna decides she's willing to do pretty much anything to keep them broken up. Jackie just wants to feel wanted, so what harm can a few messages from a new account really do?
explicit / no crash au / shifted ten years (they graduate in 06, rather than 96)
x just unzip me (~32k)
Shauna is the maid of honor in the Taylor-Sadecki wedding, but on the big day both the bride and the groom have a confession to make.
explicit / no crash au / set in 2004-2006
series
x prolong the night
explicit / jackie lives au / especially twisted
x (pt 1) no one knows what dawn will come (~12k)
Shauna helps warm Jackie up and, months later, Jackie helps Shauna survive labor.
x (pt 2): drunk from so many roses, redder than wine (~8k)
Jackie can't leave Shauna alone when the butchering duties get darker. Everyone has their role, and hers is just how she likes it—inextricably tied to Shauna.
oneshots
x honey come over, the party's gone slower (~4k)
Nat’s dead, but that doesn’t mean it’s all over. She laid Jackie to her final rest, and now Jackie’s the one to welcome her to this strange new home.
teen / post s2 finale / nat pov
x trying to keep you alive (~5k)
A night of Shauna feeling especially self-destructive (cruising for women, talking to Jackie's ghost, and burning bridges with the only two people in her corner).
explicit / canon-compliant / post return / ghost!jackie or hallucination!jackie depending on how you read it
x no take backs (~3k)
Laura Lee is a few steps ahead of Jackie in this whole navigating being a ghost thing, and Shauna is falling apart quicker than Jackie can pick up the pieces.
mature / canon-compliant / set during 2x01 / ghost!jackie pov
posts of note
x jackie taylor is a lesbian frame by frame pt. 1
x jackie taylor is a lesbian frame by frame pt. 2

New Chapter: A Lazarus Drug
Link: Chapter 4
Previous: Chapter 3
First: Chapter 1 (AO3)
A/N: Content warnings in this chapter for a depiction of claustrophobia/near-suffocation, ritualistic self-harm (canon-typical stuff), depiction of hallucinations, and being mean to Natalie :(
Preview: It was just her luck to not hear anything when she was missing Laura Lee so viscerally. And when thoughts of Natalie only made her tense with worry. She couldn’t help but yearn for some of the morbid comfort of a ghost’s familiar voice. Maybe even find out what she had been trying to get Lottie to hear.
Perhaps it was something to help her keep Jackie’s attention off of her and Natalie both.
Lottie slowly set down the blanket she was working on. Her mind had started to wander completely elsewhere, retracing the moments where she had heard things that may or may not have been there. There were times when the sounds felt more visceral, more guaranteed to be heard. Like the broken tree stump at Doomcoming, where something had told her that they wouldn’t be hungry much longer.
When it came to Laura Lee, Lottie would hear her voice when she was here at the cabin, most often in close proximity to Jackie. But there had been that day in the woods when Laura Lee followed her, when Lottie’s body had unconsciously taken her towards the clearing for the hunter’s plane. The last place she’d seen her friend in person.
If Lottie went back there, would the ghost follow her again?
She didn’t know how she would be able to know for sure, aside from trying it out herself.
So, that’s what she would do.
Thankfully, everyone was too busy with chores (or whatever Taissa and Van were going back and forth on) to notice Lottie squirreling herself away in the pantry, wrapping herself in an extra jacket atop the faux-fur one she was already wearing and insulating her clothes with scarves, the way she had seen Natalie and Travis do with magazine pages every morning for the past few months. Hopefully, it would have the same effect.
Once she was finished bracing herself for the cold (as best she could), she had still gone unnoticed by the rest of her teammates. There was a clear path to the door, and if all went well, she would go unnoticed as she crossed it as well.
However, there was one thing that gave her pause. On the tray table left in one corner of the kitchen, there sat the cutting board and hunting knife that Shauna used to serve their bear portions every night.
She didn’t know why, but she was flooded with a sudden feeling of, I should take it with me. Be it for protection or…for something else, she wasn’t sure yet.
Either way, she took the knife with her, slotting it behind the belt tie of her jacket. She reasoned that Shauna wouldn’t need it until later in the evening anyway.
Indeed, she was able to slip past the front door of the cabin with very little fanfare. Jackie was still outside, pacing the length of the porch and muttering to herself in frustrated French, “Le voleur est là. Elle nous le cache! Elle le cache!”
Lottie wasn’t even going to attempt to translate that. Instead, she continued on her way, holding her breath a little as she crossed through Jackie’s path.
Her undead teammate continued her pacing as if Lottie wasn’t even there.
The young prophet made a beeline for the trees, her steps surprisingly light for the snow she had to wade through. Her whole body felt lighter than usual, elevated by sheer relief to get away so easily. To not have anyone begging her for emotional guidance, or have Jackie staring intensely at her, felt like the first real breath she had taken in literal months.
Her relief was promptly tempered by the freezing air all around her. It nipped at her face, turning her skin numb. Her body became uncomfortably tense against it, like she’d never left the anxious atmosphere of the cabin. She didn’t know how Travis and Natalie could trek through these conditions all day every day.
The tension only grew worse as she found the same path her unconscious body had taken her down the day of her panic attack. Just like then, it led her to a tree with the Wilderness’s symbol etched into the trunk, right at Lottie’s eye-level.
She tried to ignore the inexplicable urge she had to press her hand against it. To test if she would feel protected or…whatever by its presence.
She didn’t think she was ready to test whether or not it actually did anything. If the precautions she had been taking with it thus far were for naught, after all.
Too cold to fidget with her fingers like she normally would, Lottie started chewing on her tongue from anxiety as she continued on.
The clearing wasn’t far from there. A knot had formed in her stomach when she saw the tree with the symbol on it, and it only grew tighter and tighter as the spot where the bush plane had once been came into view. By the time she officially reached it, that taut ball of pain seemed to have replaced her stomach in its entirety.
She came to a stop right at the center of the clearing. She tried not to think of it when it was clear of snow, covered instead in flourishing greenery. She tried not to imagine herself the last time she was here, with her teammates and Travis all gathered around her in a state of tentative hope, whereas she felt nothing but pure dread for something she couldn’t pinpoint. She tried not to think of the path they had cleared from here to the lake, wherein they had all chased after the decrepit Cessna as it took flight.
She tried not to think of the smell of smoke. The ball of fire over that spot on the lake.
Exhaling shakily, Lottie dropped down to kneel at the heart of the clearing. She kept her ears peeled for anything. She even looked around, though she knew it was foolish to think she would actually see the person she came out here for. The ghost who had been calling for her, begging over and over and over again to listen to her.
“OK,” Lottie said to the open air in invitation. “I’m listening.”

What are your favorite characters and dynamics of Yellowjackets?
Ooh that is tough because I love ALL the dynamics & characters! It genuinely is so difficult for me to pick a favorite because there's not a character or dynamic that I'm bored with.
I love Misty & her fucked up obsessive desire to be someone's favorite person even if it means poisoning them or hiding bodies for them - no matter what it means! I love Misty & Natalie as adults & their weird codependent friendship & the way Misty is a borderline sociopath but she cried when she thought Natalie abandoned her <3
I love Natalie & her deep, loyal love for Travis. I love the way she is so broken & she doesn't see any hope of ever being whole again & she almost embraces that darkness. And I'm SO SO SO excited for her dynamic with adult Lottie. She drank Lottie's blood but she also grew frustrated with her. Lottie kidnapped her & chained her to a bed to protect her from herself <3
I love Shauna & Jackie!!! This one I've talked about a lot, others have talked about it a lot. What is there to say? Jackie is a ghost. She's haunting the narrative. She's dead from the beginning. There is no story where she doesn't die. Shauna is consumed by Jackie in the real world. She's overshadowed by her popular & beautiful best friend. then in the wilderness things are different. She loves Jackie so much that she contributes to killing her & it drives her mad & she'll see Jackie's ghost for the rest of her life!!! She'll live Jackie's life & fuck Jackie's man & live in her grief!
I love Taissa & Van & their romance in the face of horror. I love that Van insists on staying with Taissa even though Taissa might be dangerous - she's eating dirt, she's trying to eat Van in her sleep, she's insane but Van isn't afraid. She doesn't banish Tai like Simone does. She doesn't flinch. She writes 'I love you' in blood. Tai killed a wolf for her & that's romance!
I love Taissa & Shauna!! Taissa helped Shauna attempt a freaking abortion in the forest! They hold each other & live in their pain together as they both pretend to be normal for the world!!!
Lottie & Laura Lee...Ohhhh it's the two girls who have spiritual beliefs & connections at the start of this. It's the girl who connects with the occult & the girl who wants to believe in god meeting in the middle.
I just love the entire show. I can't explain every dynamic & character I love or we'd be here all day & I can't pick a fave <3
thanks for asking me about Yellowjackets!!!

OH I LOVE RANKING THINGS THANK YOU...
ACTUALLY I TAKE IT BACK THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE
okay. i will attempt the impossible. but i Will be very biased and this is mostly about which episodes have my fav scenes ghsjdfhghfg from best to least favorite episode. let's go!! (spoilers: this is fucking long and i did both seasons!!!)
episode 1: pilot. because ??? it's literally perfect?? what do you want me to say. flawlessly introducing all the girls' pre-crash personalities. the shaunajackie homoerotic tension. "you are beautiful in the eyes of our lord". natalie wearing purple. pit girl!!!! she's been iconic since day 1!!!!
episode 10: Sic Transit Gloria Mundi. what can i say. i like beginnings and ends. i like high school reunions. i like death scenes that will haunt me forever and ever. and i still think that "who the fuck is lottie matthews?!" is one of the best lines ever
episode 5: blood hive. listen... nothing gets to me like a possession. to this day that's still one of my favorite scenes of the whole show
episode 9: doomcoming. absolutely iconic. pure chaos. also just the name doomcoming? instantly made history. "there's no bookclub?!?!?" also the aftermath of laura lee's death! how cute they all were getting ready together! jackie and misty. shaunajackie arriving together. lottie wearing laura lee's dress :) (smiling through the pain). TAIVAN!!

episode 6: saints. HOMOEROTIC BAPTISM!!!! but also shaunatai!!!! miss sophie nelisse really has been acting her heart out since day one huh
episode 7: no compass. i really thought van was so dead here 😭 but that was insane. and i liked to see the adults still chasing ppl <3
episode 3: the dollhouse. LAKE SCENE!!!!!!!!!!! and the beginning of lottie's beef with the cabin <3
episode 8: flight of the bumblebee. this episode ruined my life <3
episode 4: bear down. i mean, one episode had to be last even if love them all!!!! i do!!!!! and as much as the competition was fun to watch, i think they should've killed travis the second that he pointed that gun at nat <3
and you know what???? i want to share my ranking of season 2 too 😭 gshjdfhgjfhg so
episode 1: Friends, Romans, Countrymen. lend me your ears!!!!! another perfect episode!!! i'm still getting chills every time i listen to seventeen and cornflake girl (which is several times every day). i think nothing compares to the feeling of watching shauna eat jackie's ear. also the day i fell in love with simone kessell as lottie matthews. i literally haven't been the same since then. also the teen lottie yell!!!!
episode 4: old wounds. listen.... i don't know what they put in this episode (laura lee's ghost and lottienat bath scene and adult van) but it literally changed me as a person
episode 2: Edible Complex. ella purnell acting as ghost jackie is seriously one of the best things i've ever seen. and the jackie feast!!!!! history was made!!!!!!!
episode 8: it chooses. when i tell you that i've never, never been so stressed as i was from the moment that they start drawing cards to the moment the credits started rolling in.... i'm so serious okay? worst night of my life. i wish i could live it again (bonus points for lottie losing it at her friends confessing their many crimes)
episode 7: burial. therapy time!!! bruce the goat!!!! 🥰 nothing compares to the feeling of seeing the adults just happily hanging out (plus florence and the machine songs!). and then shaunalottie sex scene shauna beating lottie up while the adults dance around a bonfire??? 1000% rewired my brain. i collapse on the ground every time i listen to lighting crashes (again. several times every day)
episode 6: qui. i fully support sophie nelisse emmy campaign <3 unnecessarily cruel <3 they fuckimg ate that baby <3 jackie's voice <3 high school reunion!! <3 that last scene will fucking haunt me forever and ever amen
episode 10: storytelling. this episode ruined my life <3 i will defend it forever though!!!!! i swear i will!!!! i'm yellowjackets episode 2.10 number one defender!!!!! the natalie coronation scene is my favorite thing in the world. and i loved to watch the cabin burn, idk if i was the only one but i did NOT expect it!!! can't wait to see them huddling for warmth on a pile like puppies on season 3
episode 3: digestif. baby shower 🥰!!!! and i'm a simple lesbian, i just want melanie lynskey to point me with a gun
episode 5: two truths and a lie. teen nat comforted by adult lottie like adult nat will be comforted by teen lottie in a few episodes will haunt be forever. but, "i'm so sorry bestie", literally no one wanted to see that much of randy walsh

Ep 5: The Power of Belief
So this episode centered around belief, and what it means to truly believe something, which is something we’ve certainly come into contact with in the show, but this time it was a major component.
From the beginning, where they hear something in the attic and everyone has their reaction to it: Lottie is a true believer, just as much as Laura Lee (Who I’ll get to later) though in another direction. For her, it has to be something supernatural and no amount of logic is going to convince her otherwise. To Taissa, it’s all bullshit, and a ghost could walk right up to her and she would have some other explanation. But note that both Tai and Laura Lee, believer and disbeliever, do not partake in the game of it. Belief is not a game, not a joke.
And it’s Jackie, Jackie who has failed the girls in so many ways, who asks them to open the door to this question, and then walk through. She cannot possibly realize what she’s doing, she literally says this is just a game, but even if what happens is not factual, it is true and it is real, and the ways in which it is real and true are different for every single person in the room. What happened there, can only be answered by each individual.
I love that we the audience are asked to experience things in a very similar way as the girls. When Lottie is possessed (or, ‘possessed’) we’re told she takes French. Her being able to speak French is not out of the question here. But, we’re then immediately told she sucks at it. Is that true? Or is that just Jackie not having paid enough attention to understand that Lottie is certainly good enough to construct, “He wants more blood?” Something I, a person who speaks very very bad French, understood no problem. The idea that French would even be spoken is a construction, Shauna calling him JAcques, and if they’re in the Canadian Rockies they are likely in Alberta, where French is present but not super common, honestly. Some random woodland Albertan does not speak fluent French. (Source: I dated a girl in Alberta)
We, the audience, are given two equal scenarios here. It could be that she was possessed. It could be that it’s entirely in her head, and there is no ghost. The one I have a lot of trouble swallowing would be that Lottie is very intentionally pretending here. Lottie being a true believer makes her reliable in this even if she is out of her gourd. She is not a liar. If there is no spirit, then it’s something Lottie is doing unintentionally. I would die by that belief.
Laura Lee, also true believer, from the very beginning says this is not something she wants to mess with, that she knowsthis is real, and she knows it’s dangerous, and she believes. Similar to Lottie, but where Lottie wants to believe and confront, Laura Lee wants to believe and avoid. Let’s just think about how brave Laura Lee--not unbelieving tough girl Taissa who must believe a little more than she thinks-- fully believing in the devil and demons and possession, must be to not only go upstairs and try to rid Lottie of her possession, but to get so close as to hit her with a bible, because she also believes that is the devil is real so must be God, and I am his agent? I am not Christian at all, but I find that very compelling.
But anyway, so we are being asked about OUR belief too. The ‘will they or won’t they’ about the supernatural element of this show is INTENTIONAL, and I find that very interesting as someone who wants the show to be supernatural in nature. I respect it. I didn’t realize the wavering was part of the point, because ultimately so much of it is going to come down to “what do you believe?” Will lack of beklief protect you? The show takes pains to say it didn’t protect Travis.
And that sets the stage to ask about right and wrong, about good and evil, about truth and a lie. What do you believe? ‘What happened?’ is given up as a simple question the girls simply enever wanted to answer, but I think it is, in some ways, not decided even between them. What do they believe? What do we?

a few yellowjackets relationships i feel are underrated
shauna and javi. i wish we got more of that before things went to shit :(
adult timeline misty and tai. like... guys. adult! misty knows what she’s about (at least pre season 2 finale). she’s brutal and efficient and cheerful about it. and tai is also brutal and trying to remain cheerful about it, both consciously and unconsciously. misty is actually the one of the group who had her shit together best despite it looking like it was tai. and that is something i would LOVE more of :)
sammy and simone and existing within the narrative! i miss them :(
teen van and travis. like i’m sorry, you expect me NOT to be obsessed with the idea of a weird friendship between the team lesbian and the very awkward straight guy who both make awful jokes and also at different points were drinking ALL the cult flavoraid? not a chance
i really hope we get to see teen! shauna being very visibly jealous and bitchy to nat about being the antler queen and nat bringing out some of her Worst Fights With Jackie energy :3
coach ben and javi! i know it’s not super plausible because of how ben spent a lot of season 1 bedridden from Misty Poisoning Him All the Time, but i want to see ben trying hard for this awkward little guy whose older brother is trying his best but really is not in a state to help much.
teen shauna and travis because, like, i’m sorry. the bond of Taking the First Bite Out of Your Loved One runs strong
adult misty and jeff. jeff’s like “i don’t think shauna even likes me that much” and misty’s like “lol yeah. no one ever liked me much, but they NEEDED me. that’s what you’re going for, jeffy boy”

First of all, I don’t understand the big hate towards Jackie. Sucking at a survival scenario isn’t exactly the worst thing ever. So what if she’s insecure or a bit of an asshole? Who isn’t?
Anyway, there’s indeed a big possibility for them to eat Jackie. The opportunity literally presented itself because she’s frozen. Let’s see if Jackie ends up being cooked. That’s going to be a double whammy for Shauna considering she’s the butcher. Indirectly causing the death of her bff and then eating her? No wonder Shauna is so fucked. Well, considering everyone who survived resorted to hunting their own friends and eat them, eating an already dead Jackie will be considered the least problematic thing they did.
I think the creators of this show is purposely giving a slow burn on cannibalism though. But considering Jackie and Laura Lee are dead, the descent to savagery would be very much soon. Both of them were necessary to be killed off because both of them represent something that hinders them on the darker path. Jackie represents the society where they came from. Laura Lee represents goodness and light. Without them, it’s an easier path for savagery. Laura Lee, especially, kept Lottie in check and sane for the most part. Without her, Lottie lost her light per se so it was easier to embrace the darkness which she did.
I’m also curious who pit girl will turn out to be. Always thought it’s Lottie because of the built and hair but since she’s alive, it’s either her but she survived and they barbecued someone else or it’s completely someone else. Dunno. I considered the possibility that Lottie is already dead and the cult was revived by an avid follower of hers like Van but then I saw a post somewhere that the showrunners are casting an adult Lottie. If that’s true, it rules out the dead Lottie theory.
The supernatural aspect of the show is ambiguous so if Laura Lee shows up again, it can be considered that she’s not an actual ghost but more of being Lottie’s personal ghost/hallucination. The same way Jackie is to Shauna. After all, each of them have their own mental health issues. All of them have trauma. And even before the crash, Lottie was schizophrenic, Misty was sociopathic, Van had a drunk mother and Natalie had an abusive father who accidentally killed himself in front of her.
However, the supernatural will always be a possibility considering the hunter and Laura Lee showed up to Jackie when she died. Maybe their souls were trapped in the wilderness because of whatever strong negative entity lives there?
What’s fascinating about this show is that, the characters obviously have their own mental health issues so the supernatural could just be a manifestation of that. Or maybe it’s both?
As for Shauna’s baby, I don’t really think they ate that baby. As creepy and morbid as it sounds, there’s not much meat on a baby. Maybe it’s a stillborn? Or maybe the baby was used for some kind of ritual where they killed it? Or maybe that baby survived and Lottie raised it in her own culty ways? It would be fun if that baby grew up and then tries to assassinate Shauna.
I do think team Lottie was left behind though and the 4 survivors we see in the show just assumed they died in the wilderness. I also think there’s a division of clans in the wilderness. Perhaps Natalie along with Travis didn’t even partake on the cannibalism and she just converted the 3 women to switch sides. Misty for sure was team cannibal initially. I think Shauna and Taissa was also in team cannibal.
Literally same I would literally be Jackie. Like she doesn't actively do anything bad evil ever. She's just a bit useless and annoying but aren't we all. Shauna HAS to eat Jackie the inherent romanticism of cannibalism etc. And I hope we get to it soon I love cannibalism.
And what if Lottie IS pit girl but IS also alive because she's a teenage female Jesus who rose from the grave. I'm sticking to Laura Lee being in evangelical heaven because I love her I feel like the fact she went out on her own terms amounts to that? Like even if the evil forest ghost didn't set fire to the helicopter there would still be a very high chance of her dying and that was a risk she was aware of and was willing to accept.
I don't think a clear line between the supernatural and mental illness will ever be drawn that's just the spice of the show you know.
A stillbirth would be very boring so anticlimactic. Ritualistic murder is cool but leaving it behind because they can't bring themselves to kill it (even though it's much more cruel to do so) is even crueller. I think forest baby will kill Jeff because Shauna said if Jeff got her pregnant she'd raise the baby to kill him.
I think Taïssa would be against Lottie's team personally. Like if she joins I think it will be for Van's sake.

New Chapter: A Lazarus Drug
Link: Chapter 3
Previous: Chapter 2
First: Chapter 1 (AO3)
A/N: Big content warning in this chapter for a graphic depiction of a panic attack. Also, minor warnings for generalized paranoia and a very very vague reference to Nat's home life with her shitty dad. Also warnings for being mean to Lottie, because I personally find that upsetting :(
Preview: Just like the morning of Jackie’s return, she was now hearing things, as well. And just like that morning, it was Laura Lee she heard. Whispering her name over and over, becoming more insistent the more Lottie ignored her.
“Lottie…Lottie!”
There was a slight difference in the way her voice sounded this time. On this morning, there was a clear tremor to it. Less like someone in mourning, and more…nervous. Agitated in a way that Lottie hadn’t heard from her late friend since the first night after the plane crash, when Laura Lee confessed, on the brink of tears, that she believed God was punishing her for something really bad she had done.
Lottie could hardly stomach the thought of her friend so distressed. Especially like this, where Lottie couldn’t console her.
“Stop it,” Lottie muttered, bringing both hands up to shield her ears. Whether she was pleading with herself not to listen or with whatever was causing that voice—be it whatever entity was in the Wilderness with them or simply her own fucked-up brain—she still wasn’t entirely sure. “Stop, please…”
“Lottie…listen to me!”
The girl whimpered, feeling her chest tighten with guilt for actively trying to ignore her friend’s pleas.
It’s not her! It’s not Laura Lee! Laura Lee is dead!
Jackie was dead, too.
Jackie…
Jackie was awake at this hour, too. Jackie was always awake lately.
At the moment, the former team captain was sitting up right in front of the fireplace, watching the feeble flames there writhe in place. An echo of the dull yellow light shone in her wide, blank eyes.
As she lowered her hands from her head, Lottie realized she could hear Jackie whispering, just like Laura Lee was.
Except Jackie’s words were in French.
“C’est la fin de tout. Ils sont tous morts. Sang pour sang. La fin de tout.”
“Jackie?” Lottie interrupted quietly. “What’s wrong?”
Jackie didn’t seem upset, by any means. But Lottie had some…personal experience with such a state. She still vividly remembered when she was the one spouting ominous words in a language they were barely learning back in high school. She remembered the confusion when she finally came to, and how everyone around her regarded her with pure fear.
However, Jackie didn’t seem bothered in the slightest. Her gaze turned to Lottie, as impassive as it always was. The light from the fireplace glowed in the corners of her eyes, setting the whites of her scleras ablaze. Coupled with the complexion of her skin, still waxen even after days of Shauna’s care, she looked like something from an entirely different plane of existence. Like a fictional character in an oil painting. Like the ghost the other girls treated her as.
“How much do you hear, Lottie?” she asked. Her tone was perfectly casual, no longer at a whisper. As though this was an everyday conversation between her and Lottie, and they weren’t surrounded by the quiet, sleeping bodies of their teammates all around them.
Lottie’s brow furrowed, not understanding the question. “What?”
Jackie’s head tilted to the side. She did that sometimes, when faced with questions like whether she wanted a blanket or her share of the food. As though she couldn’t quite grasp why anyone would need such things.
This time, however, her head tilted the other way. Slower, more calculated than any of those other times. Less in non-understanding, and more like a sign of challenge. “Which of us are you going to listen to?”
“I…I don’t know what…”
Lottie trailed off, distracted by something peeking out at the very edges of her recent memory. The things Laura Lee had been saying to her.
Lottie, listen to me!
Did Jackie…did Jackie know what Lottie was hearing in her head? Lottie hadn’t told anyone about the first time she heard Laura Lee’s voice in her ear. There wasn’t anyone who could have planted the idea in Jackie’s head that it could be happening again, now.
How did she know?
Laura Lee is dead.
Jackie was dead, too.
Jackie spoke again. “Do you think a ghost can save you?”
“I…” Lottie shifted in her seat, fully facing the other girl with tentative intrigue. “Are you…do you know if Laura Lee is still—?”
There was a slight groan from the other side of the room. Someone else was being jolted awake by a disturbing dream.
It was enough to distract Lottie for the moment. Her eyes shot over to the person, finding Travis stirring against his spot on the floor. If he was awake, he was definitely going to stay awake so that he could start the day looking for his brother in the woods. Which meant the morning no longer belonged to just Lottie and Jackie.
When the former looked again, Jackie was no longer looking at her. The latter’s face was turned back towards the fireplace, watching the low flames with the same impassive expression she’d had when Lottie first woke up. It was like their exchange had never happened.
