We started to experiment with this shoulder pinch control and it works really great. Last week I learned about the "butterfly sweep". It was such a huge "ah-ha!" moment for me, because I said in front of the class "So that's what my husband has been doing to me!" (When we spar). That was a little embarrassing. I should have written this right after class because I had another revelation about something, that helped me understand what fun the men of my household have when they participate in these sports. Alas, I have forgotten that point. I shall try to get my thoughts down sooner. My oldest judoka grabbed my kimono later that night and exclaimed, "Ew! I didn't know girls could sweat". We're all learning things.

When I first learnt this sweep I always used the strength of my quad to extend the opponents leg upward. It actually was not till I was a brown belt and using the #islandtopteam method of base-posture-structure that I actually could create more momentum and leverage by bridging to the shoulder and moving my body underneath the opponents base with actually only one butterfly hook in contact.There are times and different scenarios which will utilize shoulders off the mat and lifting with both butterfly hooks .
