The Girl With The Red Hair is a Historical Fiction Must-Read
After being recommended this by my aunt (thank you very much Aunty G) I have found a renewed interest and love for WWII stories. I previously found the titles I’ve picked up to be a little too removed from the action or the protagonists were too naive and ignorant to their surroundings. The Girl With The Red Hair is anything but and furthermore it is a quick-paced, action-packed read centred…

😱 Jason Grace fanfiction???
This isn’t the actual fanfiction, by the way. It’s just an outline/draft for the idea. Though, should I write it? The draft/outline itself is already 1k words 😭 I’ll write it if people want me to write it, but even if they don’t, I might end up writing it. Just much much later
also sorry for being dead for a few months, life was an absolute ass :3

do you think ellie likes kissing with a lot of tonguehehshahsb
ok so yes. let me go on an unasked tangent abt jackson!ellie again. there's just something abt making out in her little garage home with the lights dim thats so raw and hot. especially making out w high!ellie. random but its so my own summer by deftones coded idc the vibe and energy just matches that energy she'd give tonguefucking your mouth. like. bro starts off with that sensual roll of her lips over yours, licking up any reeds of saliva that drool from ur lips like a dog, then connects her lips again to slither that thang in. it's not overbearing, though. it's gentle when initiated, like the plumey touch of a paintbrush dabbing across a canvas. subsequent to that, the sensuality gets gradually more severe. her tongue dovetails with yours, intertwining the muscles together in different instances. so so slobbery but in a hot way. ౨ৎ oh my fucking god and if you were SMOKIN while making out she would puff a veil of smoke into your mouth, lips a fingerbreadth from touching, eyes droopy to a slit watching it condense inside your humid mouth. then she welcomes herself in with a light flick to your open mouth before diving back in once again. let's out faint breathy grunts of, "fuck.." and "uh-huhh–" when you two part, probably has forsaken a few buzzy moans down your throat. and with ellie, i believe all makeouts w her lead to those waxy peach buds of hers to bespatter a byway of pecks alllll the way down to your navel, giggling along the way. her hot breath gathers on each kiss given, ticklish as hell!! okay def went off track but I love makeout scenarios I wanna write a fic dedicated to a first kiss w jackson!ellie so bad.

Afterglow: Chapter 1 - What I Want
Leader Singer!Reader x Lead Guitarist!Ellie Williams
Tumblr media
Summary: You and your band, This Way To Jackson, are headlining your very first tour across the US. Dina, the bass & keys player, Jesse the drummer, Ellie the lead guitarist, and you, the lead singer and back up guitarist, are finally living out the dream you've all always wanted.
Warnings: Some mentions of past relationship drama, but I think that's it.
Word Count: 1.9k
A/N: This chapter introduces the band and the vibe/energy of their live shows. You also get some background into how the band started as well as reader & Ellie's relationship prior to their breakup. Highly suggest listening to What I Want by MUNA to get fully immersed in the experience…and because it’s a great song lol. Listen here.
Chapter Two >>
Tumblr media
The lights, the crowd cheering loudly, the fast paced backstage area as you and your band, This Way To Jackson, made your usual walk in unison to side stage ; you found you never grew tired of this high-like feeling.
The moment the crowd started buzzy with anticipation, your mind switched from day-to-day you, to stage persona you. In order to maintain this feeling of energy and excitement, you kept your body bouncing on the balls of your feet, amping yourself up for tonights show that would start in a mere minute or two.
A soft tap on your shoulder took you out of your thoughts as you spun around, coming face to face with your tour manager Annalise.
Silently, you smiled before turning around to get your ritual two second shoulder rub from her and whispers of good luck that she liked to spread around to each member of your band ever since you all had your first show after getting signed to a label.
After Annalise gave her words and a light pat to your back, you turned back around, coming face to face with the other two members of the band-Dina, Jesse, and Ellie-as you all huddled in closer to one another as you prepared for your other infamous nightly ritual of yelling something obscene that usually had nothing to do with the situation at hand, yet always got a big wave of positive energy out of each of you.
You lowered your in-ear so it rested limply along the side of your face as you moved your hand into the center of the circle you and your bandmates had made. One by one, Dina, Jesse, and Ellie followed as you all looked up with smiling faces at one another as you stood in a circle.
"Your turn Ellie," you shouted above the loud chants of the crowd that were just beyond the small entry way that was formed by the steel stage brackets.
Ellie nodded as everyone brought their heads in even closer to each other as the waiting in anticipation for tonights chant began.
"Alright...When I say tits-“
Your expression read “dear god” before Ellie could even finish her statement with that look of mischievous pride in her face.
“-you say ass! Got it?", Ellie finished.
There was a small pause after Ellies outrageous idea of a chant that you knew she had spent precious time conjuring up in her mind-too much time in fact. All of you shared knowing looks and childish grins and giggles before Ellie shouted the start of the chant.
"Tits?"
"Ass!"
"Tits?"
Ass!"
The chant went on for a couple more rounds, all of you screaming the words 'tits' and 'ass' back and forth and moving your hands up and down in unison before giving one final bump of your hands in the air. With an expression of joy on your lips and in your eyes, all of you shook your hands in the air in a jazz hands motion before ending the before-show huddle with a round of applause from all of you.
"How long did it take you to think of that one?"
Ellie turned around at the sound of your voice, just after picking up her trusty red Les Paul and situating the guitar strap around her shoulder.
"You're just jealous I thought of it first," she mused with a shit eating grin while grabbing the guitar pick that was in her hand and sticking it in between her lips as she made one last tuning adjustment to her instrument.
With a soft smile and light brush of your hand along the bare skin of Ellie's arm, you sat off to the side to allow the other members in the band to take their places before you made your grand entrance.
The venues lights turned from a dimmed, warmth shade of orange, to completely black, making the screams of the crowd take over the noise within the 5,000 capacity venue that was full of people that were all there to see you and your band perform on your next stop of a sold out tour.
The deep one note bass of the pre-recorded entrance music began in time with the bright blue stage lights, causing the crowd to grow even more in volume. Most attendees were either watching in amazement, reach for their phones to record or take a photo, or doing a combination of both. You always found it intriguing how these people were anxiously attempting to record a once in a lifetime memory on their phones, meanwhile this was your job. This was your dream that you got to live out all while taking your your best friends along for the ride.
A rush of joy came over you, making you grin from ear to ear just as your band came to stand inches away from the stage left entrance.
"Go get em", you yelled over the music as they began their decent into the dark fog filled stage.
You knew their shadows must've become visible through the man made smoke as the yells from the crowd turned into full on screams. This energy made every single one of the band members get drunk and full on this feeling of being desired for an art form each of them loved doing.
Dina took her place first, stage right, with her bass in hand as she stood behind the keyboard and microphone. Jesse followed directly behind her and took a seat at the elevated drum kit that had the bands logo printed largely on the kick drum. Last, but certainly not lease, following directly behind Jesse was Ellie with her electric guitar in hand as she took stage left, directly behind the microphone stand that was fitted to her height perfectly.
Dina started things off by holding her fingers down on the keys, creating a chord that vibrated throughout the spacious venue as the lighting shifted along with each note, making the music come to life in visual form.
It was like the venue was alive with a thriving pulse as the stage lights became brighter, giving a clear view of each of the musicians as they were firmly set in their places on the stage.
Before you made your entrance at every show, you couldn't help but peak over to get a glance at the crowd full of various faces. It was absolute insanity to you that this many people with this many separate lives had all somehow made their way into this venue to congregate over a common interest. The fact that it was your band that was the common interest of these literal thousands of people from all over the country truly never sunk into your head as reality. Your bandmates would agree with you without falter.
As your eyes scanned the crowd, one particular face caught your eye. A girl stood at the barricade, who was undeniably attractive, even from the long distance and obscured view of the brightness of lights and smoke. She held a white medium poster that said, "Ellie can I have your guitar pic?" with a few hearts adoring the written words.
You felt it again. That fucking dropping feeling in your chest that you hated to admit existed, in fact you loved to pretend what you were feeling was nothing out of the ordinary...but who knows. You had a show to put on and didn't have to deal with this feeling this time around-something you were extremely thankful for.
Now, the band was in full swing as each of the members- Dina, Jesse, & Ellie, began playing the chord heavy intro music that never failed to get the crowd excited for the rest of the evenings performance.
Right on cue, the heavy music came to a near halt, except for the catchy, disco-like beat that was familiarly in their song 'What I Want'.
This was your cue.
The crowds voices rose, igniting a level of validation and nerves and confidence all swirling into one as you made your way onto the stage for the first time that night with both of your arms raised in the air.
You'd never know, and Ellie thought you would never care, about how much she loved watching you come on to the stage every single night. The sheer, raw joy on your face as walked or skipped or danced out with confidence and looked out into that crowd always made a massive smile appear on Ellie's face and an internal leap form in her heart. One that she too liked to pretend didn't exist..maybe it was just a friendly gesture.
Ellie didn't think she would ever get over how the band started with you and her in your dorm; an acoustic guitar in her hands and a pen in yours. Granted things were very different now than it was back then. Now, you were playing to thousands of people on a nightly basis, back then, you were lucky if you could get 5 people, who weren't drunk of their ass, to catch your open mic performance.
Back then you and Ellie were also reveling in the 'helplessly in love college students' feeling and attached to the hip..now, one could still say you both were attached at the hip, but a lack of commitment on Ellie's end and frustration on yours eliminated the kissing and any hope for romance in both of your future together. Now, you were just friends..and Ellie had a girlfriend who she loved very much.
As you made it to center stage, standing directly behind the microphone and straight down the middle of a bright pink light, you felt alive. It was like your exact purpose in life was to do the very thing you were currently doing as your lips graced the very top of the microphone and your hand wrapped around the bottom of it to steady yourself. The second you sang the first word, thousands of voices joined in as you all created a harmonious chorus together.
Your bright smile covered your face as you looked out into the sea of people. Some dancing, some yelling, some standing still and observing the every move of your band for the first time.
Meanwhile, as you looked out of the corner of your eye, glancing from the left to the right, you could make out each of the band members on either side of you. All of you synced together in rhythm as you moved along to the upbeat song that was born to blare at 2am in a gay bar.
Suddenly, Ellie came clear into view on your left side as she simultaneously walked in front of her microphone stand and played her instrument, until she was stopped just at the edge of the stage. Your lips moved along to the words of the song that was basically muscle memory at this point, as your concentration was soon taken over by something else-someone else.
The screams on stage left grew significantly louder as Ellie’s fingers remained strumming on her guitar while she peered out into the crowd of adoring fans.
Ellie was definitely seen as the most popular member of the group, something you honestly didn’t look too far into because you recognized why. Her energy was contagious on stage as she always moved along with the music, gave the appropriate amount of attention to the audience, and knew when to play it up on stage with her other band members in order to gain a positive reaction from the crowd.
While you had been got in a trance like stage, Dina had moved out from behind her keyboard and over to you as she gently nudged you with her hip. With wide eyes, you were suddenly brought back while Dina looked at you curiously, mouthing 'you okay', to which you nodded and masked a smile on your previously straight lined lips.
As the crowd screamed the pre chorus lyric “Thats Just What I Want!” back at you, you found yourself back to being fully aware of your surroundings and back to being one with your stage person..not whoever that person was.
Infectiously, your body moved along with the music as you jumped around the stage while singing the chorus to the queer joy power anthem. Your body first took you to stage right as you sang to the crowd, spending extra time with them to make the performance personal. Then, you made your way to stage left, making eye contact with Ellie as you took the nearly skipping steps over in her direction.
Taking the hint, Ellie moved backwards and in towards the center of the stage, allowing you to move in front of her so you could sing to the concert attendees on the opposite side of the stage.
She watched the way your leathered outfit hugged your form as you jumped to the words of the chorus, but she never let herself linger for too long. It wasn't a secret to others that you and Ellie used to date, she wasn't one to stir that drama up even if she was admiring you in a not so friendly way.
Either way, it was harmless. You were her ex girlfriend so of course, if she found you attractive back then, she was still going to find you attractive now. Especially if you weren't the one who ruined the relationship in the first place-she had zero bad blood to hold above your head.
As the last chord of the song was hit, all of you stood on that stage with smiles on your faces as you attempted to catch all of your breaths. The vibrations of the screaming and applauding crowd hit each one of you and intertwined with the bass of your instruments.
This feeling never got old, and neither of you could ever imagine getting use to it or anything coming in between that dream.

The sun was rising when Abby came back from the corral with a bucket full of fresh milk. A thin fog covered the pasture denouncing a hot day following that cold night, and she already knew you and Ellie would be looking forward to a dive into the lake later. Suzy, the cow from which she milked, was now resting peacefully next to her calf while Abby made her way into the kitchen.
You and Ellie were fast asleep still since that was Abby's day to take the milk. Your limbs entangled with Ellie's in a mess, but comfort reigned on that bed and enveloped you in calm dreams. Abby looked at you both after fixing the milk, the auburn hair of the Williams girl all messy and cute and your adorable pout. She smiled at herself unconsciously, thinking how tranquil your farm were in comparison with the buzzy mornings of Jackson. The community was fine, but nothing compared to that piece of heaven you three had. The days were calm and the chores were shared between you all.
"Morning, sunshine", Abby said when Ellie opened her eyes lazily. Her face was marked by the folds on the pillowcase, and she yawned while pulling you closer.
"Don't keep staring there like a creep, come here", the both of them smiled while the blonde approached the bed.
You squirmed in your, now, light sleep, and soon opened the eyes to see them both next to you. Ellie hid her face on your neck while Abby kissed you face fondly.
"Milk's in the kitchen", she said, a hand going to caress Ellie's arm around you.
"I'm starving", the brunette murmured.
"Let's get up then", you moved slightly, lounging the legs.
"Don't wanna"
"Then starve"
"Goddamn", Abby laughed, followed by you both.
The mood was so cozy and warm, the sun wasn't so bright yet, the chickens were making sounds afar and the air was chill. That was your piece pf heaven.
Sometimes you tried to think what would be of you three if the world wasn't ending. But then realized that the only reason why this was the piece of heaven was the almost-like hell you've been through before. Your parents used to tell you stories about the old world, about music and parties and the fears people had before. They told you about wars and christmas, about ice creams, mathematics and philosophy. It was such a big world and it was all to the ground before you were even born.
Maybe it was impossible to conceptualize that existence in a reality so distant. But, well, it was just the first moments of the morning. You were definitely far too deep into those books you've found.
"C'mon, I'll make us some hearth shaped waffles", you said out loud, getting Ellie's full attention.
"Will you let us eat the cutout edges?"
"What would I do with them, Els?" She kissed your face repeatedly, taking a easy smile from you. On the other side of your face, Abby did the same, finishing with a peck on your lips.
The moment made your heart flutter, and your body suddenly felt so small to contain all the love and excitement them two gave you.
Finally getting out of bed, you and Ellie went to the bathroom before meeting Abby in the kitchen picking up the stuff to make breakfast. She placed it all in the island carefully and all you could think about was how delicate she could be all the time.
Most people get intimidated by her size, but Abigail is one of the most careful woman on the planet most of the times - if she needs to beat you, that's another story. Her hands would travel along your skin lightly while you're laying on the couch listening to the radio, crickets and tree tops whispering from outside, enveloping you in a tranquil time. When she casually puts one of Ellie's hair strands behind her ear, it exhales delicacy and tenderness.
"Thank you, love", you say while pecking her biceps.
Ellie puts coffee on the stove for both you and Abby and then grabs juice from the refrigerator for herself.
"Who's shaving the sheeps today?" Williams ask, sitting on the kitchen isle.
"You", Abby is kick to answer.
"I'm getting the vegetables" you add. "And Abby is cutting wood"
"Oh man, I thought I would cut the wood today", her pout is adorable as she laments, earning a peck from the blonde.
"That's tomorrow, you dork"
You were prepping the waffles and fixing the strawberry syrup, satisfied with the sweet smell running around the kitchen, even with the small window open. You notice a wild cat running outside, trying to catch some insect in the field.
"Hey, isn't that the same cat from last time?"
"Really?!" Ellie almost jump, coming to look outside. "Should we keep it?"
"You don't even know if it wants to stay with us", Abby laughs.
"Who wouldn't want to stay with us?"
"Sometimes I reconsider my decisions", you chuckle with these words coming from the blonde.
As they eat the cutouts, you place the same amount of waffles to each one and then put the syrup on the table. Ellie takes the coffee and mugs, Abby gets the bread and what is left of the chicken.
The breakfast goes calming, comfortable after Ellie puts some disco to play from the living room. You and her mumble the song as Abby stays silent, enjoying the presence and the energy surrounding the place. It's a beautiful day to walk around and maybe go swimming on the lake nearby a little, as the area is always clear due to Jackson's patrols. You three also go out in some runs, just to make sure, and the last time you found an infected it was alone.
"Okay, I wanna finish it soon, so let's not waist any time, ladies", you announce as soon as you finish.
"Wanna go swimming later?"
"Only after the chores"
"I bet a boob I'll finish it first!" Ellie collects the plates, smirking even though she has the longest chore for the day.
"You bet. With these babies, the wood will be cut in no time", Anderson flexes her arms, making you roll your eyes. It would never be boring with them both around.
"I just wanna get the vegetables"
And so the day starts.
You change clothes to a more appropriate to the soil environment, putting a cloth on your head to hold the sweat you know will come drip down your face. The boots come later, dirty from all the external use. You put a sunglass you found on a old Jackson patrol and get the basket and the gloves from the back porch.
The garden looks beautiful. Vibrant green pops from the healthy soil, you recognize it after working so much on the thing back in Jackson. A smile takes place in your face as you go collect the vegetables, carefully walking through the plants to later kneel between them.
Ellie is good with the sheeps. She talks to them, calling by their names - you never knew how she could tell them one from another, and somehow Abby could do it too. Only some wildly different you could keep in mind. But Ellie was always making jokes and petting them, hugging the animals after shaving them and saying how much of a good work they did.
"That's it, Madam Olivia, you're so brave!", she murmurs, kissing the sheep on the forehead before letting it go. "Sir Callahan, you're next! No, you're not running away from me this time, I know you're all nice with Abigail, it's me you have for today, okay? Yeah, it'll be okay, it'll be fine. I'll bring a coat made of your fur, what you say?"
Despite the sun, she stays with the back to it and put all the fur on a sack. They'll take it to Jackson in the weekend, using the time to visit Joey, Tommy, Maria and your mom. The woman makes her best to clean them before cutting the fur, paying attention to sticks and bugs even though a cleaning work will happen in the city too.
Abby is nearby you, getting all the wood she'll have to cut today next to a large trunk. While you collect the vegetables, you can hear the axe going down again and again, the cracking of the wood and then it being thrown next to her. This goes on for over an hour.
It's almost relaxing, to be honest. She focuses on one task and try not to get hurt, mind empty. The pieces end up all pilled on the other side, waiting to be stocked away.
It's before midday when you three finish it all. You also clean the vegetables and cut some of them, making sure to treat the soil later.
"Run to the lake?" Ellie it's the one to suggest, gaining a smirk from Abby almost immediately.
"No", you cut, laughing. "Let's just get our stuff peacefully and go there in our sweet time, please"
They obligated for the most part. You actually got the stuff: towels, clothes and food. But later, when getting close from the lake, Abby started running and Ellie wasn't the one to deny it. And you came right after, making your away on the trail, still partially cautious about the sounds.
Apparently it was all clear, as usual. Taking off the clothes were secure. Abby puts it folded on a rock, Ellie just trows it there before jumping in the water.
You never like the contact of a body of water around you immediately, it takes a minute to get used to it. The way every movement reaches to your skin, and how completely different it is; like experiencing two different realities at once. You have patience to relax before going to the two women messing around and enjoying the fresh water under the sun.
Once you saw this old painting on a suburbian house, you mother told you what suburbs were. The painting had this beautiful lake on it, fast and raw brush strokes creating the image of a landscape. First you thought how cool it was to be able to create something like that. Then, you imagined what would it be to bathe on that place, with a little bit of tranquility and the company of whoever wanted you good.
It was good. It was sweet. And it was true. As you felt Abby's arms around you in the water, as you reached to put Ellie's hair away from her face, you realized once again that it was real, you were there. Touching them and living with them, breathing, feeling, and you couldn't think of anywhere else you'd rather be.
Birds sang sweetly around the pond, the sounds coming from everywhere sporadically as the time passed in front of your eyes. One of those rare moments when the good doesn't fly away, but walks with you, hand in hand, guiding your perception through the details. Their cool skin against yours, little drops on the limbs above water, wet hair slowing drying as breaths were so loud you thought it could be heard miles away.
"I love you. So much", you whisper under the natural track, sighing.
"We love you too", Abby said, face resting on your head as her arms enveloped you, and Ellie's hands rested on the blonde woman's biceps.
Ellie kisses your cheek as you smile.
The afternoon walks with you lovely for the next hours, and then it's time to go home again. You spent some time sitting on the border to better dry, putting back the clothes. Now, them both do not run around, just calmly wander next to you in silence for the most part.
"I'll go get the food, you to can shower first", Ellie said as soon as you reached the limits of the farm.
"Okay, thank you, sweety", you hold her hand.
When the night approaches, signing that a new day is closer than before, you three are with warm clothes on the living room. You and Abby read a book, Ellie reads a comic, and the limbs are tangled on the couch. As tempting as it was, the fireplace would never be lighted up in order to not attract unwanted people, so duvets and socks are essential for this moments.
And for the next hour you three just sit in silence and appreciate the comfort of each other's presences, before going to bed together to finish another day.

[ARTICLE] 231018 Lay Zhang Is All-In: K-Pop Superstar and ‘No More Bets’ Actor Is Ready to Take on Hollywood
Tumblr media
As an original member of K-pop powerhouse Exo, Lay Zhang enjoys household-name status across wide swaths of Asia. But after conquering the world of boy bands and embarking on a wildly successful solo career, the Chinese actor, singer-songwriter, dancer and fashion icon just wants to collaborate with Joe Wright.
“I loved ‘The Darkest Hour’ and would like to have the opportunity to work with [him],” Zhang tells Variety of the British director. “I like a movie that can dig into the personality and conflict.”
For K-pop talent looking to cross over to Hollywood careers, the field is crowded. Blackpink’s Jennie Kim scored a buzzy role in Sam Levinson’s HBO series “The Idol.” And after signing with CAA in 2021, Aespa became the first K-pop act to perform at the Governors Ball and Outside Lands music festivals. But Zhang is perhaps best poised for the pivot thanks to his starring role in this year’s massive box office hit “No More Bets” (nearly $530 million worldwide). He’s already laid the groundwork: “No More Bets” got a limited release in the U.S. in September, while his solo debut EP, “Lose Control,” hit No. 4 on Billboard’s World Albums chart.
Last month, the 31-year-old pop phenom signed with Range Media, the management company behind Bradley Cooper and Tom Hardy, and embarked on a 13-day trip to the United States, where he took meetings with executives at production company Escape Artists (“The Equalizer”) as well as Sony casting director Ashley Marks.
“I want to be an actor who can bridge between Chinese and American culture,” says the hoodie-wearing Zhang, who prepped for the stateside swing by binge-watching “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” “I hope that the success of ‘No More Bets’ in China is just the beginning of being able to be recognized as an actor in the U.S.”
Zhang, who is fluent in Mandarin, Korean and English, is still figuring out some of the cultural nuances. When asked who his favorite music performers are, he offers up Michael Jackson and Chris Brown before catching himself and checking with his manager. “Can I say that?” Then he settles on a controversy-free dream collaboration.
“The Weeknd would be at the top of the list,” Zhang says. “I really like the way he’s changed pop music, and he’s incredible what he’s able to do onstage.”
After wrapping concerts in August for his Grand Line tour in Shenzhen and Beijing, Zhang is looking to expand into the lucrative U.S. music market, recording with such producers as David Stewart and SoolGotHits (Beyoncé) during his visit.
On the film front, he will be seen starring opposite Jackie Chan in next year’s “A Legend,” the long- awaited sequel to the 2005 martial arts adventure pic “The Myth.” The big-budget production gave him an opportunity to work with one of his career inspirations.
“He does his own stunts,” Zhang says, explaining what’s most impressive about the “Rush Hour” star. As for his other bucket-list team-up, he says with a laugh, “Tom Cruise. He does his own stunts.”

my little sibling plays bass and i know virtually Nothing abt bass but uh. tell me some stuff abt the bass! like do you use petals or have any settings you love defaulting to?? whats ur favorite stuff to play?
YAYYYY EXCUSE TO TALK ABOUT HERRRR THANK YOUU <3333
ok so here she is and her pedals and cables and case <33333
Tumblr media
typically i keep the tone clean but i loveeeeee playing with distortion or theres one RATM (bulls on parade) where i use fuzz with all the pedal settings all the way down it just adds this soft punch i love it i loveeee pedals i wanna get an actual board and a whammy pedal next
anyways for my bass her name is Horrorshow she’s a Jackson X series concert she plays sooooo well in super low tuning the lows are super punchy and thick and the highs are super bright and clear i lovee her soo much <33333 (i technically got her for free cuz i had this squier jazz bass and its motherboard fucking broke and it was cheaper to just trade it in than get a new part. Anyways once i saw her i knew i had to have her and she was on sale for like 250 off (CRAZY.) and with the warranty money i got her basically for free and if anything ever happens to her i’ll kill myself)
as for settings i like to play with the gain turned alllllllll the way up (it gives it this really soft distortion feel while keeping the clean tone) and the highs/treble and mids relatively even with the lows/bass just a little bit lower. This bass really excels in lower tunings so ive set everything up with that in mind so that the highs stay bright and the bass/lows are still thick and loud without overpowering everything. And for the knob that controls the mix between the pickups (i have a jazz/precision setup basically the jazz is bright and buzzy and the precision is a little softer idk) i crank the jazz side alllll the way up
my favorite stuff to play is usually whatever rise against song im obsessed with at the moment (probably because their bass player is co-writes all the shit with the singer so their two parts kinda take the lead and keep everything together its really cool and makes for some really fun bass lines and fills that a lot of other bands dont have idk his bass lines are just Fun.) but i loveeeeee Savior, Prayer of the Refugee + Drones, and State of the Union (cuz i get to use distortion on that one and it sounds soooooooo good and loudddd). Other than that i love playing anything loud and fast or really anything in Eb or drop C# tuning (those and anything lower are my favorites) my favorite songs to play right now are probably Bulls on Parade and Midnight hands (and anesthesia by metallica its soooooo pretty its just a bass solo for literally the entire thing but FUCK is it hard like just go listen to it it makes me wanna kill myself)

My priorities might be skewed, but my first thought after seeing that post addressing crazy musical disk-horse was, 'oh no, i'm gonna have to stop going in the Great Comet tag for a while.' I simply refuse to perceive discourse, i will make it wash over my brain like water off a ducks back.
My second thought was that ppl really gloss over 2020 as thee tony's musical snub year. the percy jackson musical probably wasn't good (haven't listened), but like. they refused to nominate it for leading role even though it was one of two musicals that qualified that year, giving it to the other by default. They changed the definition of best original score just so they could avoid nominating it. legitimately hilarious levels of haterism.
it's Unserious to approach some media analysis (like that one musical of an awards season was the objective worthiest one for any given category, much less Best overall, the vaguest) as though one theory is the Definitively Correct one. versus that it's an argument that could be backed up and hold up to figurative peer review, and even then, it'll always have limits and not be like "objectively" all-encompassingly accurate
it's also Unserious to say some shit like "great comet should've won best musical or gotten as many awards or swept or something....because dear / evan hansen is basically trump"
imo thee tony awards? are pretty much Unserious too. it Is enjoyable when any awards institutions recognize anyone or anything in ways that seem to reflect some actual value, and that would always be arguable / subjective / up for debate, but the major awards groups especially do not seem "good" at doing this, or "trying" to be. as a deh enjoyer and deh [head in hands wishing it was different b/c xyz criticisms &/or disagreements with concepts they were trying to execute, and executions of concepts....but i'm doing it better & differently than like "deh is bad, evan is evil" or "pretty much any of the movie criticism"]er, i'm not like, mad that it was tony-acclaimed. i also would not be mad if they hadn't really won stuff, i also wasn't following the show at that time lol. i also believe great comet had to close not long afterward, didn't it? after some kind of casting shakeups that many people did not really see as It? i don't know about the show; i don't like, disagree with anyone who likes it more than deh, and/or thinks it was Better, b/c i have no info of my own, and i would not have Serious arguments in saying "no, deh is better, factually, nobody should think otherwise"
like, first of all like you're saying, to have Lost to deh in the tonys is to have been nominated at all. nothing got tlt's treatment, ever, and that was just more ridiculously out in the open than any snub in any other season could have been....but second of all, i also have to imagine some of the beef w/deh winning so many tonys instead is that the main thing the tonys do is give featured / awarded shows boosts; it's always talked about as that important Commercial event for broadway, when getting to broadway & staying on broadway is incredibly difficult, incredibly complex, incredibly expensive....reminded of it in that it seems the televised tonys getting a waiver so they could happen at all was at all for the sake of supporting the performers' careers by extension of the tonys being that commercial for broadway & a potential box office boost. probably having your show close not long after the tonys were largely about deh was unfortunate for said show & fans of it. but it's also not like winning even Best Musical has meant that that show will remain open for even another full year; afaik deh was also really buzzy Before the tonys, even if that solidified that further / was indeed another boost. and it's like....deh didn't make them make them win lol. much less did the material in deh....somehow result in a tonys win in Any Way comparable to a US presidential election candidate??? It's Fully Unserious
the only time i paid attention to a tony season while it was happening was in 2019, as a bmc enjoyer, so that was a real illuminating crash course, and ofc i have that Unamused Emoticon perspective about like. a situation in which it's very evident that that wasn't just like oh this one other musical which is its Nemesis (fr i don't even remember what all won / was nominated instead) but rather deliberately being shut out. the One nomination was, aptly, nominal, like "well you see, you've been acknowledged at all;" the off the shits unasked unwarned mitb parody that didn't give credit while the show couldn't actually do any performance is like....idk what that was, or who it was for, Everyone Hated That. again, the show having to close not long after was also not fun for anyone; even if in retrospect it's somewhat tempered by like, that was august of 2019, so they only could've had so many more months of it anyways, but that doesn't change things At The Time. i also don't need to believe bmc was inarguably thee best most successful show of the season, i can't do that, nobody can. i think it's a way stronger piece than deh, i like it more, i like the concepts & execution more. i don't need it to have won awards, i don't even need to think any given show "deserved" more than any others to have a longer run when it's all so expensive and difficult and precarious at the best of times. like, here we are, after bway phantom of the opera had to close.
which, i never saw beetlejuice in any iteration, much less the musical. i may not ever, b/c i have never been interested in other iterations lol. but it was like, nodding respectfully re: it being another show that season that the nyt (also a vastly Unserious realm of critical media analysis) hated, that evidently the tonys also barely wanted to acknowledge....that then had the added layer of like, what do you mean hugh jackman music man. great for them that they got to reopen anyways, i do not need to love the show myself or think that this is all Art Meritocracy out here re: who gets to stay open for how long, or close. i don't know anything about the lightning thief, i don't need to think "well it wasn't that good" nor "well it was amazing so this is an Objective outrage," i think that the tonys are Unserious for evidently being unwilling to ""consider"" (for as much as i think that the Consideration of various awards voting bodies is, itself, that Serious either (i don't)), much less platform, the show, even if i thought it was Bad or Disliked it. there were like 0.8 damn musicals that season. aaron tveit default win. no original scores nominated thusly. tony voters/producers and nyt criticasters going "idk i don't think i personally liked it, might've assumed going in what it was Like or About and didn't engage with it, maybe didn't bother seeing it or paying attention while i did" and that gets to be a cue for who gets money; it's about their institutional power transferring their Arbitrary stances into material impacts, versus their Supposed efforts of Arbiters Of "Taste"....while also like, broken clocks and [only so many musicals any given year], many people will Like many of the musicals up for nominations lol and be mad or glad at any winners/losers/completely ignored eligible shows
oh have to shoutout another instance of the tonys Unseriousness: bitching and moaning about how they just caaan't change their rules rn to make All categories nongendered. great stuff.
anyways just like, nothing new in people trying to posit their preferences as Objectively Superior based on an argument of morality? and it's like, i'm sure there are people who are like "wow yeah uh evan hansen is as bad as a fascist politician. he's lying and manipulating, and that is close enough" and earnest about it but like, is it close enough, and is that an Serious analysis of the actual material? No....and like, sure, have opinions and preferences based on an Ethical Stance, god i hope you do, but like, you have to be able to communicate that stance in a way that actually is based on shit and holds up at all, versus just vibes or making shit up to obfuscate what you Really think. which can just be "i'm mad that this show closed and didn't win tonys and didn't become this hypey breakout cultural phenomenon in ways that many broadway shows generally Do Not anyways" without like, legitimizing anger and even show grief by making it a stance like "and deh is basically trump >:(" lmfao like, it's already legitimate to have a preference or emotional investment in something you enjoy / has significance for you
i am not here for / don't seek out or absorb any & all rando Takes anyways, but in being here alongside [bmc bway is happening] like even peripherally i was aware of people also having preferences / feelings that had a shit basis lol like. that basically they're pissed that will roland was cast and this is because of thinking that in various ways his body was Worse than will connolly's (i honestly forget if it's one or two L's in his last name....yeah two right) and really what made this very clear is that nobody was actually willing to Say That, and instead would make up stuff about how this was a Serious And Objective Stance they were taking based on Artistic Merit. suddenly it was an urgent issue of newly saying that will roland is bad at singing (or the backhanded constant comments like "wow will r's so much better at singing now" on videos and Only re: will like, yeah his skill levels are only giving more cunt as time goes on, that's effort, increased experience, etc, applies to any & everyone else generally too...?) or suddenly bmc was stuntcasting b/c will roland was in deh (lol) or like this is the only time a role has been recast between productions, or even During....god knows that "someone who originated the role didn't stay with it forever," as is especially & often relevant w/indefinitely-running (over)demanding bway productions, is an eternal source of people who have preemptively decided that whoever replaces them is Objectively Worse, and will just make up whatever story serves that purpose. some anon once tried to hate on sky lakota-lynch to me, presumably as a will roland aficionado, b/c he was the next jared kleinman principal actor....like, what, you want Nobody in that role?? as, after Years as jared, an actor chooses to leave to be a lead in another show (that they personally like more as an audience member / preexisting fan lol)....also, they were racist about it. like absolutely you can prefer Whatever. you can be like "haha yeah i'm just always going to prefer This and it's not necessarily about like making sure i couldn't Possibly like another version as much or more" like, you don't have to. better for anyone to embrace that they just think [xyz] is neatest to them personally. i have no reason to think will connolly was "bad" as jeremy, i hear it was a different approach too in being a bit more fragile(tm) / Sad, great if you like that, i'm sure he can sing well, i heard a few pre obcr tracks, etc etc, i'm not interested lol like i've showed up via this one actor for these couple productions and That Is My Domain. i think it's shitty to be fatphobic & biased against people's bodies which does include their voices, and it's bullshitting to make up some narrative to cover for it where oh suddenly this person is just unskilled or an Unworthy Stuntcast. it's Unserious, it's also like just some real life shittiness, whereas fictional character evan hansen is not affected by "lying? an extremely broad phenomenon that is actually All 'being a lil too fashy for my tastes imo...'" and it is more difficult to imagine such a stance being relevant in ppl's lives in other applications, but that is also Unserious. if people have a serious thought out idea, they should be able to express that rather than expressing some deflection about "deh should've lost b/c that was like the 2016 US presidential election" or "will connolly should be jeremy in all iterations b/c this other guy i'm seething at now has only existed as: in deh"
anyways like point is that yeah like sure entirely possible great comet was the best musical on broadway that season (even though i don't think there can be any Definitive conclusion thusly. how do we assess that....and do we want to have to like, pit all shows in a medium/genre together? with inevitable limitations &/or restrictions on who gets to choose winners?) but you don't even have to be mad at deh or make it about being mad about something else entirely for no reason. can be mad that the tonys get to make or break shows, that putting on shows is so expensive, that [capitalism], can even just be mad b/c you really liked it and you don't have to put on some more ""legitimate"" argument; it's its own argument lol, it's also an outright subjective & individual one and we can be individuals with preferences and likes even without having studied every other possibly comparable work to make sure it's superior, and Not be like "actually any & everyone else could Also only possibly think / feel the same, so really my having a fave musical lately Transcends being the opinion of one person." we can indeed even pick any two shows or whatever else and compare them, or have a critical lens and do anything but believe something is so univerally Perfect that there's not even anything to say or even question. meanwhile it's also definitely rough that live theatre is all Ephemeral and limited in distribution, but if there's enough out there about a show to be the basis of knowing that you like it, you still have that. bmc trt loyalists can stick with the ocr / relevant boots lol.
and yeah the realest Most Wronged show is the lightning thief lol truly. not even b/c you have to feel You love it or it Deserved to run for years or make it to Broadway in the first place, but like, just evidently the tonys are some nonsense, let's make That argument together, as well as the nyt, and in my Onion the overall format of "one individual critic expounding" is also not our best most serious effort at thorough consideration of some material, nor what makes it most useful for people who want to know about that material Through you....it's mostly entertainment, and it's also bad at being entertainment. we can all enjoy a good Disrespecting The Tonys B/c They Earned That together, wherein if they really don't want to recognize your show they Will just refuse to give it nominations no matter what. you can go "i think great comet > deh" or "i think great comet's awards-worthiness in comparison to all other shows that season > deh's" and not go "deh <<<< because when characters lie that makes them like an irl fascist" b/c what?? and no it does not lol
like gotta shoutout that i definitely disagree on points w/other Deh Likers and Deh Haters b/c of course i would. i have no inherent disagreement w/great comet likers b/c of course i wouldn't. and even if i'm sure by now "can you believe that (the 2017 tonys)" is a bit old, it's like, how is that gonna be Enriching to hear discussed some more if it's not saying (a) anything at all or (b) essentially not saying anything b/c saying "characters shouldn't lie, and if they do, it's like being authoritarian in real life" is truly too Unserious to bother entertaining as a [this is why i think this other show should've won] stance here, much less absorbing

Past honorees include many future Oscar winners and nominees including Mahershala Ali, Timothée Chalamet, Viola Davis, Adam Driver, Brie Larson and Lupita Nyong’o.
This year’s honorees will be feted in the Oct. 12 issue of Variety and at the Newport Beach Film Festival Honors, a brunch reception held on Oct. 16 that also celebrates some of the best and brightest in the entertainment world. The event will be held in conjunction with Visit Newport Beach and the Newport Beach Film Festival.
“With a significant amount of guild and Academy voters attending, the Newport Beach Film Festival Honors event has become a must-stop for the awards campaign season,” says Gregg Schwenk, CEO of the Newport Beach Film Festival. “The annual celebration hosts industry legends side-by-side with rising stars from Variety‘s 10 Actors to Watch.”
Adds Steven Gaydos, senior VP global content/executive editor of Variety, “However it happened – whether it was COVID, the rise of streamers, the internationalization of film and tv – compelling storytelling is happening every at once, as further evidenced by this year’s 10 Actors to Watch. These ten are bursting out of movies, but movies of all kinds from all places. And from long-form shows that match their big screen counterparts in buzziness, creative impact and opportunities for these ten to create new, unforgettable characters. And so they have. Fried Eggs, Boy Brides, Ice Spice: Inside New York Fashion Week After last September's massive NYFW schedule with tons of headliners (European names showing like Marni and Fendi brought tons of hype) and huge parties, this season was a little more low-key. Buzzy designers like Peter Do and longtime stalwarts like Tom Ford skipped the week altogether. But there was plenty of exciting talent to follow. After a cocktail celebrating Thom Browne taking over as chairman of the CFDA this year kicked off, a slew of brands like Puppets and Puppets, Area, Collina Strada, Elena Velez brought a jolt of energy to the proceedings. It also gave a platform for new faces to take over the front row, with Fashion Week a launchpad for many up-and-coming artists to build their high fashion credibility. From surprising celeb cameos (on the runway and off) to the changing of the guard of New York fashion, here are all the biggest moments from the last week.Ice Spice Making Her NYFW Front Row DebutIf last year's big front row get was new Kanye West girlfriend Julia Fox, this season's buzzy star everyone wanted to land was undoubtedly Ice Spice, the Bronx-born rapper who's been exploding on social media in recent weeks. The 23-year-old made her NYFW debut at Dion Lee, sitting front row next to Fox and Richie Shazam. She also attended the Coach and LaQuan Smith shows, the Tommy Hilfiger dinner and performed at the Tia Adeola and LaQuan Smith afterparties. And it only seems like this is the beginning.Elena Velez's Female RageElena Velez has knack for making fashion people feeling a bit unsettled during her shows, as if she's harboring this raw feminine tension that can only be expressed through her clothes. It's refreshing! Her Fall 2023 show built on that frenetic energy from the past few seasons and took it to the nth power with models walking exasperatingly down the dark runway, almost as if fueled by rage. There's no sugarcoating here: Elena is pissed, and the clothes looked like they were assembled with a calculated intensity made all the more visceral when a model gripped the designer's CFDA Award as if she was about to bludgeon someone with it.Palomo Spain and Heron Preston Returning to New YorkThere may have been several pink elephants missing from the schedule this season, but the addition of Palomo Spain and Heron Preston was notable in that it indicated a return to New York for buzzy brands that usually show elsewhere (Palomo in, well, Spain, and Heron Preston in Paris). Alejandro Gómez Palomo brought his signature queer exuberance and elevated it with pristine touches like sequined trousers and feathered knits for an intimate show with a live violin soundtrack. And Preston showed in NYC for the first time with an energetic show that featured like floor spray-painting, STFU logos, furry shoes and statement puffers.Thom Browne Giving His Partner a Heart at His Show's FinaleAfter another theatrical show filled with larger-than-life characters and storytelling, Thom Browne came out for his finale bow and walked bashfully toward his partner Andrew Bolton (head curator of the Met's Costume Institute), gifting him a big red heart-shaped box of chocolates on Valentine's Day. The gesture elicited adoring aww's from the audience who by that point may have forgiven the late 40-minute start (Erykah Badu was late) and 35-minute run-time. We love love! The Wiederhoeft Boy BrideThe Wiederhoeft Boy BrideThe Wiederhoeft Boy BrideGender rules don't apply and are nothing new Wiederhoeft — its founder Jackson is the embodiment of his brand and regularly dresses in fluid terms. Having entered the bridal category a few years ago, the designer included several bridal looks in his Fall 2023 runway, all with his signature whimsy and theatrics. A few boy brides were among the bunch, too, including the closing look: a white dress with a dramatic circle skirt and corset under a sheer bodice. Another look: a white corseted look with low-slung skirt and white veil showed the range of Wiederhoeft's queer bridal expression.Puppets and Puppets Making Everyone HungryCuisine and fashion collided at the Fall 2023 Puppets and Puppets show. The collection gave school cafeteria vibes with a blue and white checkered floor and stacks of old books and food concoctions designed by Barlow and Sons Production Company on display. Following the cuisine theme, cookie purses, banana-handle bags and an egg bra were all featured on the runway. Chloë Sevigny Opening for Proenza SchoulerChloë Sevigny made a rare runway appearance for this season’s fashion week. All eyes were on the American Psycho star as she opened for Proenza Schouler’s latest collection. Sevigny isn’t a stranger when it comes to the catwalk though, as she's mostly modeled in European shows.Luar Closing NYFW for the First TimeThe last slot on the NYFW calendar has typically gone to a veteran figure like Marc Jacobs or Tom Ford, a position fit for a grand finale showman. But with brands like those doing their own thing lately, a shift is beginning to take place for someone else in New York to assume that coveted spot. Enter Raul Lopez, who's taken Luar to new heights the last few seasons (along with a CFDA Accessories Designer of the Year award) to become the hottest ticket of New York. Yet again, the show started an hour late, but somehow keeps making the wait worth it. Those oversized Ana bags he showed in XXXXL sizes are sure to spawn a wait list. Shoutout to the grand dame Karen Huger for gracing us with her presence there too!Greg From 'White Lotus' Walking for Eckhaus LattaA viral moment to come out of NYFW was a cameo from The White Lotus star Jon Gries who instead of sitting on the sidelines, walked the runway of Eckhaus Latta’s show. Gries plays Greg, Jennifer Coolidge’s shady husband in HBO series. While his presence may have shocked fans, the casting wasn’t a shocking choice for Latta who’s known to include a diverse and unexpected mix of models on his runway. Lindsay Lohan Supporting Model Siblings at Christian SirianoAs a good big older sister does, Lindsay Lohan flew into NYC from Dubai to support her model siblings walking in the show. Lohan cheered them on in the front row of Christian Siriano's Fall 2023 “Welcome to Audrey Hepburn’s Rose Garden at Midnight” themed show. This made for a pleasant surprise from Lohan who hasn’t attended a fashion show since 2019. Foo and Foo Goes Nautical Prep With SperryElizabeth Hilfiger (daughter of Tommy) gave her nautical-inspired collection of prep essentials a distressed LA twist complete with Sperry boots and boat shoes. Could Sperry's be the latest aughts-favorite shoe to make a comeback? Hilfiger said the Sperrys felt cohesive to the theme — a compliment to her twisted whimsical take on Nantucket. “My inspiration started when I was thinking about boating, so it was one of the first ideas that came to mind when I was thinking about completing the looks,” she said of the choice of footwear. https://www.papermag.com/nyfw-fall-2023-2659428868.html

Northwood
Located on the North West outskirts of London, Northwood is an affluent suburb that straddles the border with Hertfordshire. It is a prime location for anyone who wants to enjoy the best of both worlds; a suburban setting surrounded by green and open countryside, and easy access to the capital. The area is also popular amongst young professionals and retirees alike. The city has a number of golf clubs and pubs, as well as a Waitrose supermarket next to the railway station, making it an ideal commuter destination. Luckily, the area is home to a plethora of fine dining restaurants and other swanky establishments, as well as some of the city’s best hotels. Learn more
If you’re after a more sophisticated shindig, the Curtain Hotel, located in the buzzy Shoreditch neighbourhood, is a worthy gilded cage. The lavish hotel features a number of impressive amenities including marble bathrooms, a spa, and a members’ club. The tavern is also a posh place to dine, with its own onsite bar and restaurant. Its most impressive feature is its proximity to two of the capital’s most prestigious landmarks: The Shard and the Gherkin.
In addition to its elegant design, the Curtain Hotel boasts a number of other amenities that make it stand out from its more snobby neighbours. The library is a prime spot for reading or snoozing, and the hotel has one of the best rooftop pools in town.
The Scarfes Bar is a high-end cocktail bar. It features a number of colorful motifs, as well as a menu inspired by the Michael Jackson album. The bar also offers a number of award-winning cocktails, including the aforementioned. It also serves some of the best burgers in the area. It’s probably a good idea to book in advance if you’re hoping to sample the menu’s finest.
The Mirror Room is a tavern with a storied history. In addition to being one of the oldest taverns in London, it’s also known for its excellent British cuisine, its dazzling views of the city, and its stylish occupants. Its cocktail list is extensive, with names such as “The Blueprint” and “Thirsty” on the menu. It’s also the place to go for an augmented reality experience in the form of a tea-infused cocktail. It’s not just a bar; the lounge also boasts a library, gym, and an a la carte restaurant. It’s also the city’s only gin bar, with over 100 gins on offer. It’s the only place in town that hosts an awe-inspiring one-minute video.
The Mirror Room also has the honor of being the first tavern in the UK to install a consumer-grade augmented reality experience, allowing visitors to choose the perfect blend of tea. The aforementioned tea-infused cocktail can be retrieved by using the mobile phone’s browser. It’s worth noting that the best part of the Mirror Room is the view of the nearby city’s skyline, which is particularly breathtaking at sunset. The hotel’s other notable feats include its own health club, a Cognac and Cigar Garden, and its own spa. Next article
