it's so hard explaining how i imagine the dynamics of luke cage, danny rand and jessica jones
a) it's important that at some point they've had some weirdass romance pentagon with matt murdock and peter parker and misty knight (who had something with colleen). ahem.
b) lukedannyjess is wholesome bc it's the world where all three of them are happy. usually the three of them raising dani cage
c) lukedanny is good because THIS is a real example of best friends to lovers.
d) lukejess is good because it's canon, and they make each other better people and i just love them so much
e) dannyjess gets overlooked a lot, part of which is because of the fact that danny really didn't like jess when luke first brought her around, but they're since cleared that up. but the narrative potential of luke being injured and falling in love with the partner of the man you're in love with has a lot of hgnnnngnggh good plot to it
f) dannymisty, where lukedannyjess does NOT happen. though in this timeline, danny definitely had feelings for luke at some point, can't convince me otherwise. but in this timeline, we get lucy rand, who CANONICALLY ends up marrying dani cage in a timeline where they both exist
guys im so normal aboout this i swear--

My fan roster for Marvel's Heroes for Hire. I see it as a team of Street level heroes and former villains.
Luke Cage, Danny Rand, and Jessica Jones would be the leads with a semi rotating team
Controversial decision: I won't have The Daughters of the Dragon in the team because Misty Knight is currently with Sam Wilson, and I have Headcannon that the reason he was trying to hand over his title (back when people were pearl clutching at the idea that someone would master the martial arts and NOT be Asian) was because he is suffering from severe depression, and Luke figures his brother doesn't need the drama.
Spider-Man is on the team as a side hustle
D-Man works with them if there is a case involving or they need help from the homeless.
Daredevil is on the team because of the Netflix Defenders connection, but he also works as their legal consultant
Cloak &Dagger are on the team because of their team up with Daredevil in X-men 97. I also thought there's a good running gag about everyone calling C&D Luke and Danny if they were melodramatic lovers.
White Tiger is on the team because of the Ultimate Spider-Man (Disney XD one) connection
Atlas (Thunderbolts) is on the team because I thought it would be fun to have all three versions of Powerman on the team. It made Scott Lang on the team redundant, but if Danny's ex was going to cause drama, Jessica's ex certainly would.
Sandman was the first ex villain, I thought of for the team, and his powers could come really handy.
Prowler (Hobbie Brown) is on the team because the team will need a thief from time to time
IronHeart is on the team because I wanted a tech person, and I could just imagine Luke and Jessica not putting up with her BS, which is what Riri needs

I made a claim that there is a trend that won't allow female leads of superhero movies and tv shows to have and end up with a male love interest. So I decided to back that up with some stats. I looked at 60 different lead characters of live-action superhero tv shows and movies from Marvel and DC, sorted them into different categories by gender and type of ending (see the details below the cut).
My findings:
While 95% of male lead superheroes have opposite sex love interests, only 61% of female lead heroes have opposite sex love interests. 62% of male leads end up together with their (female) love interests. Only 22% of female leads end up with their (male) love interest (in fact I can only find 4 examples, as opposed to the 26 male examples. All four are tv shows. I do not know of a female lead superhero movie/movie franchise that ends with the female lead happy together with her male love interest.) In contrast only 5% of male leads have no love interest whatsoever, as opposed to 22% of female leads. Women are also more likely to have their love interest die, with 17% compared to the male 10%.
The categories I used:
A. ends up with their love interest (the lead themselves MAY die. For example Tony Stark does get to marry Pepper and have a child, and then dies. Oliver Queen has a similar situation and then also gets an epilogue together with Felicity in some sort of afterlife) B. Has a love interest but doesn't end up with them (they split up; the love interest ends up with someone else; they are permanently separated) C. The love interest dies D. No canonical love interest E. The series is still ongoing/was cancelled mid-story-- there IS a love interest but it's not clear if they end up together eventually or not (EA-- will probably be together/implied they will; EB-- doesn't seem like they'll be together; E-- I have no clue. I recognize these are open to interpretation, that's why they're classified separately) F. Same Sex love interest
"What do you mean by a "lead"?" They have to be THE main character of their series/movie/franchise. Generally this is the title character. Ensembles were included only if there was a clearly discernible main character (e.g. Peter Quill in GOTG). The only times I counted co-leads was in the cases of Agents of Shield (both Daisy and Coulson), TFATWS (Sam and Bucky), BVS (Clark and Bruce), and Hawkeye (Clint and Kate).
Marvel male leads Tony Stark A Steve Rogers A Scott Lang A Clint Barton A T'challa A Nick Fury A Phil Coulson A Peter Parker (Maguire) A Marc Spector/Steven Grant A/EA Danny Rand EA Michael Morbius EA Matt Murdock (Cox- Netflix) EA Peter Parker (Holland) EA Bruce Banner B Doctor Strange B Loki B Luke Cage B Matt Murdock (Affleck) B Peter Quill C/B (I'm counting it as a C, his version of Gamora died) Frank Castle (Bernthal) C/B Peter Parker (Garfield) C Thor C Shang-Chi D (but if I had to guess, will end up with Katy) Sam Wilson D Bucky Barnes E (I'm counting Sarah Wilson as a canon love interest. If not, he's in the D category) Eddie Brock E
Marvel Female Leads Peggy Carter A Daisy Johnson A Kamala Khan EA Jessica Jones EB Natasha Romanoff B Jennifer Walters B (I'm counting Matt as a love interest for her show, but I don't think there's any chance of them being together past what we saw. Categorize this as an EB if you prefer) Sersi C Wanda Maximoff C Shuri D Kate Bishop D Carol Danvers D 26 M 11F
Marvel Male Stats A- 8/26 31% A+ EA- 13/26 50% B- 5/26 19% B + EB- 7/26 27% C- 4/26 15% D- 2/26 8% E- 2/26 8% A/B/C/E (has some sort of love interest regardless of ending)-- 24/26 92% (alt if you don't count Bucky as having a love interest, 23/26 88%)
Marvel Female stats A- 2/11 18% A+ EA- 3/11 27% B- 2/11 18% B + EB- 3/11 27% C- 2/11 18% D- 3/11 27% E- X A/B/C/E-- 8/11 72%
DC Male Leads Hal Jordan A Arthur Curry A Jaime Reyes A Clark Kent (Cavil) A Clark Kent (Hoechlin) A Clark Kent (Welling) A Oliver Queen (Amell) A Barry Allen (Gustin) A Jefferson Pierce A Dick Grayson (Thwaites) A Barry Allen (Miller) EA (or maybe A) Bruce Wayne (Pattinson) EA Bruce Wayne (Bale) A/C Bruce Wayne (Affleck) D Billy Batson D Black Adam D DC Female Leads Courtney Whitmore A Kara Danvers (Benoist) B Diana Prince C Harley Quinn (Robbie) D Sarah Lance F Kate Kane F Ryan Wilder F 16 M 7F DC Male Stats A- 11/16 69% A+ EA- 13/16 81% D- 3/16 19% DC Female Stats A- 1/7 14% B- 1/7 14% C- 1/7 14% D- 1/7 14% F- 3/7 42% A/B/C/E--4/7 57%
Total men: 42 Total women: 18
DC + Marvel Men A- 19/42 45% A+ EA- 26/42 62% B- 5/42 12% B + EB- 7/42 17% C- 4/42 10% D- 2/42 5% E- 2/42 5% A/B/C/E--40/42 95%
DC +Marvel Women A- 3/18 17% A+ EA- 4/18 22% B- 3/18 17% B + EB- 4/18 22% C- 3/18 17% D- 4/18 22% F-3/18 17% A/B/C/E--11/18 61%
Additional Explanations:
I only included movies/shows from after 2000.
If a character has multiple love interests I categorized them by their most important or final love interest. Being together with someone at the end of the series automatically puts them in the A category. If they don't end up with anyone, I made a judgment about which love interest was most significant and grouped them according to that. For instance--- Daisy Johnson has 3 major love interests (Ward, Lincoln, Sousa) but she is grouped as an A because she ends the series in a relationship with Sousa. Frank Castle I counted as a C because while Karen is maybe a love interest, his wife and her death are the more significant story factor.
I excluded movies/series that are an ensemble without a clear lead such as Marvel's Runaways (or where I didn't know enough about the movie to determine if there was a clear lead, like Suicide Squad). I also left out movies that I just don't know much about (like Deadpool, Elektra, or Watchmen). I left out Cloak and Dagger because I'm incredibly unclear whether they are meant to be future love interests or not. All X-men properties were excluded because determining A) who counts as a lead, B) are the different versions different characters and C) what endings count as canon was just a mess so I decided to skip it.
Why is Fury on this list as an A? He's the lead of Secret Invasion and is married. We might not see his wife again but last we heard they're happily married.
Why did you specify Matt Murdock as (Cox-Netflix)? Right now it's unclear if the main MCU Matt and the Netflix Matt are the same continuity, though it seems like they are not. The Netflix show ends with the suggestion that Matt and Karen will get back together at some point. She-Hulk and what's been seen so far of future Daredevil appearances don't acknowledge Karen.
Why is Peggy a lead/does Peggy really end up with her love interest? She's the lead of Agent Carter though not the lead of a movie. If we're counting Agent Carter separately, she ends that show in a relationship with Daniel. They are different ways to interpret timelines and which shows exist in which timelines etc. but regardless, Peggy is the lead of a show, and ends up married to either Steve or Daniel.
Why are same-sex relationships counted separately? Because I'm specifically looking at a trend regarding putting female characters in relationships with male characters. I contend that it stems from a sexist view that doing so portrays the woman as subordinate or lesser than her male partner, even if she is the main character. This "issue" is side-stepped by putting the lead in a relationship with another woman.
Why isn't Hope Van Dyne (Wasp) a lead even though she's a title character? Because functionally she's still secondary to Scott in the story. When I allowed co-leads they were never each other's love interests. Often the second lead is the love interest of the male lead, which skews the data. Gamora is a similar situation.
Further takeaways: 2 male heroes (Oliver Queen and Bale Batman) have a significant love interest turn out to be evil and betray them, plus an additional 3 (Iron Fist, Daredevil, and sorta Loki) that have some sort of minor betrayal that ends with the love interest on the same side as them. That's 5 or 12% depending on which number you take (I'm more inclined toward the 5%). 2 women have a major love interest turn out to be evil (Daisy Johnson and Sersi) and an additional three have a more minor betrayal with a turn around (Peggy, Courtney, and Kara). Which is 12 or 29%. Plus an additional 2 that were victims of an abusive relationship of some sort with an all out supervillain (41%).
In the above stats, characters were only put in the C (dead love interest) category if that is their main love interest. If they later end up with someone, they are in a different category. If we look at characters who had a love interest die at some point (whether permanently or not) stats are affected thusly: Male characters who have a love interest die: 12 Female characters who have a love interest die: 6 29% of male heroes have a love interest die 33% of female heroes have a love interest die

hello!! I don't know if you would remember me (and am leery of publicly identifying myself due to harassment) but we used to make danny rand suffer together when you were still in university and I am so delighted to find out you're still doing your thing on the internet! I hope life has treated you well since then. I remember you very fondly.
Hi, I'm assuming you're someone I knew from LJRP together! I won't guess who you are, out of respect for you wanting to keep your ID private, but if you're who I think you are, I remember you lovingly, and I hope you're doing well c:

[Mister Rand] Sadly not. Your mortal "social media expert" seems unwilling to take many of my suggestions. [Mister Rand] And I am not entirely thrilled with his suggestions either.

One of Lucifer's many talents was always being able to appear important. He had been welcomed into the courts of kings, the offices of politicians, the sets of adult films...even houses of worship over the centuries. At weddings, people tended to think he was some well-dressed relative whose name they just could not recall. "Oh yes, absolutely! I'll tell Uncle Albert you're just dying to see his stamp collection," he said to whichever mortal had been asking him about his connection to the wedding party. They believed it, naturally, and he smiled as he turned and found himself face to face with the groom.
"Ah, congratulations my good man!" Lucifer exclaimed, reaching out to shake Danny's hand, "Congratulations on the drink selection, that is. Almost as good as I would stock at my club! Well done! Oh, and congrats on the marriage too. I'm sure you'll be 'loving and honoring' extremely well." He tried not to make a face at that, as well as when he added, "Dad would definitely approve that you put a ring on it."

You’re not going to stand in the corner all night, are you? // @immortalweapon WILL befriend tarik
There was something about the masquerade that was rubbing Tarik the wrong way.  Maybe it was the fact that half the people here were either walking weapons or made their livelihood profiting off the sort of wars he’d watched so many die in.  Maybe it was the masks--convenient but tasteless, as far as he was concerned, given that just weeks ago anyone running around in masks was apt to find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
Or maybe the wine just hadn’t kicked in yet.
Either way, Tarik had made his cursory pass through the room to identify who he could, and was currently leaning against the balcony’s banister watching the crowd below.  There was always a method to the madness, and Tarik had flagged a few people he might need to go introduce himself to when he felt someone come up next to him to strike up conversation.
Judging on sight alone, he wouldn’t have been able to identify the man.  The mask was large, the man’s remaining features not particularly distinctive.
But the demeanor...
A derisive sniff from Ra’s, in the midst of his recounting of New York’s current power players.  “The CEO of Rand Corp may as well be a golden retriever.  Bakuto tricked him as easily as a child.”
Golden retriever.  Tarik’s lips tugged up at the edges of his glass as he brought it to his lips.  The description certainly fit.
Tumblr media
“I suppose I shouldn’t, right?  I just don’t know very many people here, and schmoozing has never exactly been my forte,” he lied easily.  “I was hoping some liquid courage might help speed things along.”

❛ who’s roger? ❜ -- @immortalweapon
“Down the street there? And past the pizza place? Yeah, ok, roger that!" Peter waved to the street vendor who had been kind enough to give him directions to the nearest convenience store, then as he was turning away, another guy suddenly asked him a question. Considering how many questions Peter was ending up asking about the way things were on Terra these days, he was taken off-guard at a question being asked of him. "Who...what? Well, uh, I don't know. I mean, that's just a phrase. All the cool guys in the movies always used to say that. But you know, it's a good question. Who the heck is Roger and why does everyone use his name instead of just saying 'Yeah, I got it?'"

“Did he tell you anything?” || @kunlunsironfist
After the Raft had come ashore, most of the inmate files had been transferred to SHIELD and Melinda had been one of a few agents sorting through the files to determine who was the highest risk and who could use a second chance --- Davos was one of the names on Melinda’s list. He had shown violent tendencies and was prone to outbursts, but all the rage he showed it seemed to be directed at one person. Danny Rand. And when it came across her desk that Davos was in a mental hospital and that Danny Rand, along with a Colleen Wing, had been hospitalized because of injuries sustained by Davos, Melinda knew that she had dropped the ball on this one... but she needed to fill in the blanks for SHIELD and find out if (and when) they built another prison for powered people, if Davos needed a spot there. But her interview with Davos was hardly lucid. The institution had him drugged up to the point that nothing he said made sense. He kept rambling about K’un-Lun? Dragons?
None of what Davos had said made sense, so she went directly to Danny in hopes that he’d fill in the blanks. After all, he was the center point of Davos’s rage, he had to know something. She showed up at one of the residences he had been spending more time at --- a Colleen Wing’s place (though there was a dojo sign still hanging outside). Melinda had told Danny that she was there to talk about Davos, and his first question was to be expected. “He’s heavily drugged so it’s hard to sort the truth from fiction. He talked a lot about a place called K’un-Lun? He also said that death would be more honorable --- and he asked for you.”

Sofia was rapidly going through her contacts to see who was still in town -- and Danny was one of them. She would have invited him out to try out meditating again, but given the state of chaos the world was in (and finding out that Danny had broken his leg), Sofia opted for showing up at the dojo he was living at. She didn’t understand why he was staying there of all places, after all, if his leg was broken, why was he in a dojo of all places? Not that Sofia was really in a place to judge, when her life got rough she would set up camp in the back of the hex shop instead of going home to a bed. And even then, she preferred Jessica’s couch over anything else.
Knocking on the door, Sofia called through it, “Danny, it’s Sofia!” It took a moment, but when the door opened, Sofia offered him a small smile before she realized behind him --- that was not what she imagined a dojo to look like. “So... what’s with the dojo sign outside? Because this is not what I imagined. At all.”

Being alive for over a thousand years, you tended to get used to things going off the rails.  When your life was sustained by enchanted pits in the ground, the magical became rather par for the course.  But being knocked clean out of their universe was definitely something new.
And it hadn’t taken he and Sora very long to figure out that that was exactly what had happened--their world was composed of several vast empires, and each was distinct enough that it would be immediately recognizable if they had found themselves merely teleported.  That, and they no doubt would have been recognized and an attempt made on their lives within minutes.
The people in this place didn’t seem to recognize either of them, by and large.  And the chaos on the streets was proof enough that they were not the only ones who had found themselves in the wrong world.  And if that was the case, there was one person he knew who should understand what was going on.  Drake.  The perpetual thorn in his side, leader of the resistance and irritating little bastard.  But a smart irritating little bastard.
Now to find him, or his counterpart in this world.  Easier said than done.  People appearing (and disappearing, apparently) seemed to have thrown this whole city into a low-grade panic, and given the sheer volume of people apparently contained in these huge buildings of steel, low-grade panic was more than enough to make finding anyone seem impossible.
Finding trouble, on the other hand, didn’t seem to be very hard at all.
There was a low groan from one of the alleyways as they walk past, and Sora drew to a stop, tugging on Ra’s hand.  And while they were in something of a time crunch, as far as he was concerned, he’d never been able to refuse her.  “Oh, fine.”
They stepped into the alleyway to find a man laying on the ground, face bloodied and bruised.  Ra’s crouched, while Sora took a look further up the alleyway to make sure the perpetrator of the apparent beating was quite gone.  She was more than capable of holding her own should it come to that.
“You know, I think your bad day may be trumping ours.  Let’s have a look at you.”

❛ all i’ve ever wanted to be was useful ❜
NOT HERE SENTENCE MEME || ALWAYS ACCEPTING || @kunlunsironfist
Danny was still recovering. That was what Colleen kept telling herself after she snapped at him for trying to fetch something from the cupboard -- but in reality, she was feeling just as useless as him. Danny was still recovering, and Colleen was trying to figure out how to cope. And now she was looking at Danny’s pained expression like he had just been slapped across the face and she knew she had screwed up. But she didn’t realize how deeply she had hit him until they were sitting silently at the dining table. Colleen was looking at him from across the table, feeling an overwhelming amount of guilt in the pit of her stomach.
She kept telling herself that neither of them were good with words, but she couldn’t even form the sound of an apology. (Was she incapable? Or did she just want to hear what Danny had to say before she said something else she’d regret?)
Tumblr media
It felt like they had been sitting there an hour before Danny finally spoke. And then he said that and Colleen’s eyes fell to the table. Had she made him feel useless? Or was he still feeling that drive that the monks of K’un-Lun had beat into him? He was the Iron Fist. The Immortal Weapon. When he was that he had purpose, he was useful, and Danny had assigned all his worth to that for so long. Colleen opened her mouth and then shook her head. Sorry didn’t feel like enough here -- and this was clearly about more than just the tea on the top shelf she couldn’t reach. “Is that... what you want to be to me?” Colleen’s voice was small and the question was heavy. And Colleen was scared of what his answer might be.

*whole starter written around a 500x gif* -- @immortalweapon
Tumblr media
Mortals got so worked up sometimes. All Loki had done was just magically adjust the settings on Facebook's advertisements so that people would get missives extoling his virtues instead of some vulgar product placement. He saw nothing wrong with that. If mortals were going to be bombarded with "pop-ups", why not have them do something useful? This man, whom Loki did recall having met--and having assisted, no less--did not agree with him, obviously, for he seemed to not be pleased that people who worked at his company were complaining about the ads.
"Very well, that is your opinion, but I do fail to see the problem. I've heard Midgardians complain about how bothersome those advertisements are, so since they clearly are going to be flashing in front of people's eyes no matter what, I thought they should at least be useful. You have a company--do you not advertise how great the company is? So how am I doing anything different?"
