i feel like 'who talks like that' mentality has harmed unique dialogue in books ngl?? like we need to let our characters have their own way of talking, let them be a little melodramatic. the written word often requires flowery speech and sharing sentiments in a way real people don't because we cannot convey the micro expressions, the atmosphere, the little visual cues—all that modern media allows. you have to be willing to be a little cringe if you want your characters to stand out and feel earnest and real

they’re all watching a movie adaptation of one of gentaro’s books!!!! it was not by choice tho lmao gentaro, in true leader/2gumi twin souls fashion, concocted a web of lies to bring everyone together for it LOL

juto and hifumi went to nab their seats while rosho jyushi and jiro chose the snacks!!!! jyushi and jiro started to get into an argument over which is the best popcorn flavour, jiro’s on team caramel and jyushi’s on team butter lmao

when the movie got started, they let gentaro on stage to give a message as the author of the book and when he took stage, jiro and hifumi immediately began loudly cheering for him lmao 🥹🥹🥹 rosho loudly told him they were being too loud so they needed to shut up, juto told him that he was being too loud too so he should shut up and jyushi tearfully said that everyone was too loud pls be quiet LOL

actually lmao, the real reason gentaro invited them to this movie was to rope them into advertising it using their popularity as drb contestants LOL. gentaro told them tho, jiro would be able to reach the younger generation, hifumi is popular and that’s his strength, jyushi can reach a lot of people with his music, rosho has the ability to guide the youth and juto (gentaro giggles here) can arrest people LOL

Augh even Nene acknowledges that Hanakou don't really hang out one on one :c There was a lot of missed potential to explore their relationship more (maybe have Kou realize he hasn't exactly been taking 'responsibility' over Hanako like he promised initially or show their more empathetic side with Hanako reminiscing over the past and Kou trying to grapple the idea of Amane Yugi). I get that Mitsuba and Nene’s whole adventure together was important plot device to show how the two felt about their respective love interests and propel the plot forward but like!!! Sigh can’t AidaIro shed some much needed light on Hanakou post grim reaper arc?

ㅤthe miniscule red light on chris' video camera flashes repeatedly, seemingly keeping time with the rhythm of her pulse. if that wasn't a sign that she was too attached to the technology in her hands, she'd be hard pressed to find another one. in truth, the fact that the camera had even survived the crash was a miracle; it was a recent purchase she'd made specifically for filming the team's trip to nationals, a task she'd been given by ( and after practically begging ) her film teacher.

ㅤshe'd rummaged almost frantically through her bag just last week in a panic, fearing the worst, but her nerves were settled the second she found one final battery tucked away beneath her socks. now, all that's left is what little power this last battery has left, and the idea of losing her one connection to the outside world is slowly inching towards becoming a reality.

livvy's death hits so hard bc she had a whole freaking life to live, she had moments she was yet to experience that were taken away from her: her first huge solo mission, her first love (my heart breaks for her and cameron), her first driving lesson, like she won't ever be hugged by julian again and she won't travel the world or ever get to experience her first true kiss, or get to be beside ty until she is old and grey or get married or live the rest of her life with her family right by her side in a peaceful cottage with two doggos,,, and that makes me fucking sad :(

first of all rye 'hello fellow kids' ingellvar there is nothing in this world or any other I wouldn't do for you. second of all, considering where this story ends... I'm going to die. this conversation -- and how much he genuinely believes what he's saying at this point -- held up against the fact that in a couple of months max he's going to get her killed (well. that's how he feels anyway) and then go against everything she believed in and stood for as a person in the end and have to live forever with knowing that's how he honoured her sacrifice. (and live with how easy it is to live with, the way he doesn't regret what he did at all. she'll haunt him from time to time, that's fine, he's a watcher he's loved many a ghost before and will again. but that won't.) 'no one is beyond help? oh lace I'm so so sorry, wherever you are now please forgive me for who I am, but after what he pulled and by the time I'm done with him on my watcher's oath he will be beyond help. I'll hold every hand in this world that reaches back but his'. and she'll still be gone.
