"The writers need to pick a guy for Amy (or have no guy) and actually develop a relationship storyline. These potential romances that last 2-3 episodes are driving me crazy. I am not even that huge of a fan of Caleb, but their scenes are popping this season. I could see the writers doing a ‘slowly falling for your best friend' thing. Amy is happy around him and he’s clearly in love with her. If that’s not happening—fine, but why tease us with it?

It is unrealistic that all these guys are interested in Amy. Finn/ Edwin/ Caleb/ Nathan? Have Amber do a chemistry test with someone and begin to thread storylines throughout the season. The writers seem to be throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks. It’s bad writing and disrespectful to their audience."

JATP x DBDA crossover where the Phantoms are free but Willie still isn’t and Caleb is playing dirty now that the boys have bested him (possessing Nick but also cmon he definitely has more magic up his sleeve) so they start trying to figure out Magic on their own, which is really just Julie and Flynn googling things and trying out various types of magic/spells/scam artists in the area, only for someone to come across something to do with the DBDA who are happy to take the case 👀

I have too many WIPs for this but just some ideas floating around my head:

- Crystal at first butts heads with Julie and Flynn (residual mean girl tendencies/differing senses of humor) but end up bonding over being surrounded by (dumb) dead teenage boys

- None of the Phantoms are good at proper spells but their music 100% has magical properties that is utilised in whatever final battle type event happens

- Edwin has come to terms with Charles’s eccentricities but the Phantoms are a whole other type of teenage boy and I think he would be just so catty about it all. Like why are they cute and so stupid this is ridiculous why the Hell did we even take this case can they please take this seriously

- Charles and Reggie vibe. I don’t make the rules

- Flynn can’t see the boys either which naturally leads to hijinks

- Monty attends a concert (he deserves to have fun) and while I considered him being the link between the two groups I think it would be funnier if he decided to go to a concert and runs into them coincidentally

- Based on a precursory AO3 search I’ve seen some fics where Monty gets in trouble with Caleb which makes sense with the whole magic familiar angle but I’m not copying here so I won’t get into that

- I think Willie interacting with DBDA would be wild. Like. Dead pretty boy with a sense of humour and tragic backstory? They’re all swooning fr

- Niko (shhh) gets along with Julie and Flynn IMMEDIATELY like they are talking about shows and DIYing things together and it’s great

- Crystal gets along better/faster with Julie and Flynn with Niko present fs

- There’s at least one dance number with everyone involved

- possessed!Nick is still trying to woo Julie and not only do we get the Phantoms side eyeing him but now we get the DBDA just openly judging him (Crystal roasts the shit out of that fedora and she’s RIGHT)

- Crystal would decimate any of Carrie’s attempts at being bitchy so I think we have to redeem Carrie for that reason alone

- DBDA goes to a JATP concert and the boys are actually awful at vibing there. Like Crystal is relatively normal (idk if it’s her scene but she’s been to concerts before) but Edwin does not know what to do at a modern concert and Charles is used to a much different style of dancing/concerts (I don’t know enough abt aka punk to elaborate unfortunately but ykwim)

- girls night includes style swapping bc the DBDA girlies deserve some butterfly clips and the JATP girlies deserve some eyeliner

- in the nature of JATP I don’t think Caleb gets sent to hell in the end but I do think his ending needs to be ridiculous. Like have him get the Night Nurse treatment and get eaten by that fish so he can be redeemed by Kashi

- not to bring up Monty again but I think he sticks around and keeps up with the JATP crew more than the DBDA (he is not interested in any more of that Hell/monster energy and that’s so valid of him)

- montage of Edwin and Charles teaching the Phantoms ghost abilities (I can’t remember if/how they vary between shows but if so shhh or explain it away yk)

- Unseen Emily reprise and it’s all the boys mourning loved ones. Just for the feels.

- Actually just more backstories for everyone please

- Love ballad/slow song that Willex and/or Payneland dance to 🥰

- Palasaki being openly in love (which inspires whatever the Flynn x Carrie ship is bc I love them)

If I had a nickel for every time a show got canceled that contained a group/pair of ghosts who want to stay on earth to pursue a passion, a few select humans who can see said ghosts, an evil villain who is trying to use the ghosts as a way to there own means, and the villain having a henchman who ends up falling for one of the ghosts all the while having amazing and complex queer representation in more ways than. AND ended on a major cliffhanger! I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but if F*cked up it happened twice!

You had to admit, Xavier was a master at creating a cozy space. Even if it didn’t take him much to fall asleep – the man did perfect the art of sleeping and standing – the carefully picked out decor for on your balcony showed thoughtful planning. He’d taken time to remove the existing table and chairs replacing them with fluffy blankets and pillows. As if the existing fairy lights weren’t enough mood lighting, Xavier conjured three more soft, glowy balls of light from his evol. His eyes brightened when you appeared with a plate of your favorite snacks, two bottles of chilled tea tucked against your body. 

“There’s brownies on the counter. I didn’t cut them yet so you’re going to have to-...Xavier…” You half-giggled, half-yelped in exasperation, doing an acrobatic maneuver so you wouldn’t end up with snacks all over the blankets and pillows.

“It smells great. But you should be sitting here with me. You’re going to miss the meteor shower.” He said patiently, taking the bottles from you.   Streaks of light across the sky grabbed your attention, Xavier’s smile deepening when you made yourself comfortable on the balcony floor beside him.  “Hey.” Xavier murmurs after a few minutes, capturing your attention. His eyes gently widened with surprise seeing the way your face lit up. “Thank you.” Your eyebrows furrowed in question, “Why are you thanking me silly?” 

He shrugged, reaching out so his palm could gently caress your cheek. “For being you.” With a soft tilt of your head he brushed his lips against yours.

He thought he was dreaming. The first time he saw you in that clingy dress, it wasn’t just the sliver of leg you showed off that triggered the flashback in his mind’s eye but the pure determination he read in the rings of  your irises. Your lips were pursed in a straight line. Clearly you were on a mission and you weren’t going to take no for an answer. 

“Did you just put in a bid on that protocore?” You questioned. His heart thumped painfully, an old wound opening all over again. “Oh?” He ran critical crimson eyes over you, drinking in the way you held yourself – poised and full of bravado. It didn’t help that you had to look up at him, height difference still noticeable despite how you wore heels for the occasion. 

“And if I did…” He purred with the ghost of a smirk. “-is that an interest to you?” He asked, maintaining a neutral tone. You cocked your head, surprised by his reply – you’d expected him to be much ruder, arrogant and disdainful even, yet the crimson eyes that appraised you were only filled with a wide curiosity and something…unfamiliar…like, caution? 

Your eyes narrowed, “I’m not here to play games. There is information I need-...” This time it was Sylus’ turn to cock an eyebrow, “Hasn’t anyone thought you not to reveal all your cards at the beginning of a game, kitten?” Your smile froze, why was he looking at you in such a familiar manner? Have you two met before? But if you had, there wouldn’t have been a possibility of you forgetting that moonlight-kissed hair, or those piercing, intelligent eyes of his. 

“I’m not.” You interjected, a blush creeping over your face as you realized too late.  It was just another tactic to get you to admit your real agenda. His laughter is deep, a rumble that is simultaneously captivating and soothing. You try to discreetly shake your head but Sylus’ lips are curved into a cryptic smirk. For a split second, it seemed like you remembered…as if the threads of history were starting to connect. 

Just as quickly it glimmered in your expression, it disappeared and Sylus’ chest felt like the old wound had indeed reopened. Unconsciously, his fingers drift over his chest, forcing himself to regain control of his scattered thoughts. “Then I suppose you wouldn’t mind allowing me the enjoyment of your company for the rest of the evening? I believe we have some very…enlightening topics to discuss.” 

The chin tilt, the half-lidded way he looked at you as if he was appraising an old friend instead of some random woman that had approached him during an auction for black market protocores. Warmth spreads through the entirety of your body, and you find yourself nodding, accepting his extended palm, “Sure.” His quiet smile struck a familiar chord in you but you couldn’t seem to find the connection in your memories.

“What do you mean you’re joining the Hunters Association?” Caleb’s fingers tightened on his phone. 

“Jiejie, please, this is hardly the first time I’ve mentioned it.” You answered smoothly, eyeing your cuticles. He was on speaker phone, his holographic face showing caller ID hovered over the phone-base on your desk. Acetone and nail polish was thick in the air while you continued to paint your nails. Sitting in your room, you’d just received the thick acceptance envelope, Grandma already pottering around in the kitchen happy to fulfill your request of making your favorite home-cooked meal as a celebration.  

“I didn’t think you were serious about it.” He muttered.

You chuckled, glancing at the holograph knowing he couldn’t see your expressions. It didn’t stop him from picturing the smirk on your face or the crinkle in your eyebrows. What you didn’t tell him was how you’d chosen this specific shade because it reminded you of the purple of his eyes. 

“Seems more like a you problem, than mine. I told you about it and you assumed I was joking. You know what they say about assuming and ‘ass’-” You chuckled when he cuts you off. 

“Alright, alright, cut it out. So when are you…” He paused, his fingers toying with the apple charm of his dog tag. “-when are you leaving?” 

“Next week. Monday is my first day of reporting.” 

“That soon huh? Well I guess I’ll have to find time to visit you and Gran so you can have my braised chicken wings before you trade delicious home cooked meals for whatever you can attempt on your own.” His tone carried that lighthearted tease that you’ve spent most of your childhood hearing. “I’ll have you know I’m an expert at pressing the buttons on the microwave for the perfect ratio of noodle doneness to soup temperature.” You retorted.

“I wish you hadn’t said that pip-squeak. I’m going to have to schedule more drop-ins to Linkon if you’re going to survive living on your own.” Caleb’s laughter is like a warm weighted blanket over your soul, making you wonder if you’d chosen this specific shade of purple nail polish to keep Caleb close to you.

I actually can't stop thinking about a JATP x Dead Boy Detectives crossover.

Willie contacting DBD to finally get something done about Caleb

Caleb's gaydar going off for Edwin and then trying to pair him off with Dante and Fuego like he did for Alex.

Caleb working his manipulative ways to make DBD believe he's not the bad one and it's actually 'Willie and his boyfriend's little boyband' that are causing the chaos.

DBD being suspicious but following along anyway and meeting Julie and The Phantoms.

Crystal and Julie having a bonding moment about being girls with ghost boys as pets - instantly certain there's no way this group are the trouble just because of their similarities.

Charles asking the band which one of them is Willie's boyfriend, and when everyone turns to Alex, Edwin can't stop watching him - not because he's attracted to him, but there's another gay ghost that has actually managed to get a boyfriend after death. Fascinating.

Luke being super defensive about the group, Charles being super defensive about their investigation, so they start off butting heads. Somewhere along the line, Charles mentions being alive in the 80s and then Luke's like '... omg me too' and they just forget they weren't getting along.

Eventually Edwin starts talking to Alex and asks him about how he found Willie and how he even made the move to be his boyfriend and Alex gets all shy about it and then tells Edwin his story and Edwin's like 'the only boys that have shown interest in me have been a crow and a cat' and Alex just goes '.... okay....'

Niko and Reggie, meanwhile, are talking about horses and Reggie's country songs

obviously mina's siblings have shown up in the comic, and you've mentioned calvin's family on here a couple times, but as far as i can remember i don't think you've talked about edwin's family at all, so that could be interesting to hear about! (i'd also love to hear more about mina and calvin's families -- just in general stuff about the characters' backstories)

AND while we're at it! Full Wykowski family references too!! Valentin and Mariana are the parents of twins Caleb and Stella, and Calvin. Willa is Caleb's Wife, and Holden is Stella's husband. Calvin's siblings are older than him by 6 years. Cal was a bit of a surprise extra sibling. Mariana and Valentin went through a divorce a few years ago that sort of drove the family apart. (I don't really have plans to make the whole family big characters in canon due to the way I have the plot setup but it will be mentioned too at the end of this episode) When the divorce happened, the siblings each seemed to "pick a side" and Calvin didn't want to be involved and that's when he moved out and just tried to do his own thing. And Valentin is a very emotional person in the way that Calvin can find super overwhelming and "smothering" at times...the same way that he's really "embarrassing" about his career, which is why Cal's been trying to avoid him at the beginning of ep6 lol!!

Casey: “Of course. I talk to them everyday. Why?”

Derek: “Did they happen to mention me?”

Casey: “Only to tell me how calm and serene it is with you gone.” *smirks viciously*

Casey: *confused* “Right about what?”

Derek: “They’re glad I’m gone.”

Casey: *sighs* “Derek, that’s not true.”

Derek: *confused* “You said you talked to them everyday.”

George: “Marti, that’s not true. What makes you think we don’t miss Derek?”

Marti: “I heard you and Nora in the kitchen. You’re glad Derek isn’t here!”

George: “Oh, Marti.” *hugs her* “We do miss him. Everyday.”

Marti: “That’s why I have to play his pranks for him. So you won’t forget him.”

George: “You’re the one who’s messing with Edwin and Lizzie?”

Marti: *nods head*

George: “Well, Marti, you don’t have to that. We’re never going to forget Derek. Plus, he’ll be back to visit soon.”

Marti: “Ok-ay.”

George: “I think you should apologize to Edwin and Lizzie too. We don’t want them to start fighting the way Casey and Derek do, right?”

Marti: *smiles, giggles* “Right!”

*scene change: McDonald-Venturi household - dining room table*

*George, Nora, Lizzie, Edwin, and Marti are sitting at the dining room table*

George: “Lizzie, Edwin - Marti has something she wants to say to you.” *looks down at Marti, nods for her to talk*

Marti: “I’m the one who put the egg on the floor outside of Lizzie’s room, and I tripped Lizzie, and I put the Whoopi cushion on Edwin’s chair.” *apologetic* “I’m really sorry!”

Lizzie: “We forgive you, Marti. And, Edwin, I’m sorry I yelled at you.”

UPIS students showcase fiery performances at Variety Show and BOTB 2025

UP Integrated School (UPIS) K-12 students took part in this year’s NINGNING: Variety Show and LAGABLAB: Battle of the Bands (BOTB) to close UPIS Fair festivities last February 27 at the 7-12 Gymnasium.

NINGNING: Variety Show (K-6)

The Variety Show showcased eight performances from the students of K-6 consisting of singing, dancing, and an original play. 

The Whitebored Band from Batch 2032, featuring Ulan Rico, Lukas Dionisio, Jsam Samudio, and Caleb Kwe, claimed The Fieriest Award (Champions) after performing the song “Fix You” by Coldplay, marking their third consecutive win in the Variety Show.

When asked about their participation in NINGNING, keyboardist Dionisio said, “We decided to, like, do it as a joke, but [it] turned out to be like our passion.” Dionisio also shared that during their first practice session, they felt the excitement and fire, which in turn inspired them to grow and push forward together as a band.

The 2035 Band from Batch 2035, comprised of Javin Orivida, RJ Tumbaga, Mirella Martinez, and Luke Santos, sealed two awards: the Blue Flame Award (1st runner-up) and the Crowd Favorite Award, after performing the song “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper and “In My Life” by The Beatles.

Finally, Anica Gail Atienza-Lopez from Batch 2032 took home the Blazing Star Award (2nd runner-up) with her rendition of “Part of Your World” by Jodi Benson.

Among the standout performances of this year’s Variety Show were Bukalista from Batch 2034 and The Prima Ballerinas from Batch 2035. Bukalista sang the song “Die with a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, while The Prima Ballerinas showed a unique performance of ballet with the remix version of the song “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg.

Calleigh Tancioco and Dañelle Mangundayao from Batch 2029 hosted the event. The judges were Mx. Edwin Conel, Mx. Gian Soriano, and Ms. Maria Araceli Baygan, faculty from the Science, Math, and English Departments respectively. 

LAGABLAB: Battle of the Bands (7-12) 

Following NINGNING, seven high school bands took the stage Thursday evening for LAGABLAB. Defending champions foodbanda, a six-piece band from Batch 2025 clinched their second straight victory. Members Keane Dela Santa, Keira Hernandez, Trisha Leguiab, Elis Reyes, Casey Ruiz, and Dzyaireh Santos performed the songs “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction, “Burnout” by Sugarfree, and their original song titled “Sinagtala.”

When asked what made the winning band want to participate in this year’s BOTB, Elis Reyes, keyboardist, shared, “As you know, we [have] participated for the past two years already, so this is our third performance and our last, so we didn’t wanna waste our senior year not performing.”

Regarding what lasting impression the band wants to impart to their audience, bassist Keane Dela Santa emphasized the connection created with the band, and the will to continue even if mistakes are made. He stated, “Enjoy the journey, bawat practice, mag-practice lang kayo, pero ‘wag kakalimutan mag-enjoy.” 

The pop-rock band Garaheadz secured the first-runner up award. Members Charlize Abundo, Reo Castro, Troy Dela Torre, Lucas Lagunzad, and Sara Lazaro performed the songs “Upuan” by Gloc 9, “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence, and their original song “Mirror in our Mind.”

Competing in the BOTB for the first time, Dog Youth, a rock band from Batch 2026, claimed the second runner-up award. Andre Baladad, Mika Dela Cruz, Faith Mendoza, Joaquin Morong, Luisa Figueroa, and Hannah Pedrasa performed the songs “Banal na Aso, Santong Kabayo” by Yano, “Antukin” by Rico Blanco, and their original song “Alab.”

The band A2-Z, an OPM Nostalgia band from Batch 2026, received the Crowd Favorite Award. The band consists of Dani Bailon, Marcus Bamba, Ashley Bonifacio, Renz Doloiras, Noah Parungao, and Zab Juanico who performed “Panalangin” by APO Hiking Society, “Secret Love Song” by Little Mix, and their original song “Aftermath.”

Each band performed their original compositions and a choice of songs to cover. Other bands including Banda Trenta, a pop-rock band from Batch 2030; Fourth Degree, a four-piece band; and Smudge from Batch 2027 also performed at the event. 

Along the Alps, a band from the UP Music Circle, gave a special performance that included their original songs “You” and “Night to Remember”, as well as a rendition of IV of Spades’s “Dulo ng Hangganan”.

The event was hosted by Arunee Licerio and Alex Blasi from Batch 2025. The judges were Mr. Abby Sionil, a teacher from the AP Department; and Mr. Elkan Reyes and Mr. Darius Casuga, both UPIS alumni.

The Variety Show and Battle of the Bands marked the end of this year’s UPIS Fair by allowing students to showcase their talents to the members of the UPIS community.
