THE OSSUARY [MASTERPOST]

this is a fic i wrote novelizing lucanis's year in the ossuary. now that it is 100% complete, i wanted to make a masterpost of relevant links that i can add to if i ever make anything else for it. scroll all the way to the bottom for the dvd special features!

SUMMARY:

ossuary (ˈäSHəˌwerē) noun 1. a container or room in which the bones of dead people are placed. 2. the final resting place of skeletal remains. Thought dead by his family, Lucanis Dellamorte, the infamous Demon of Vyrantium, spends over three hundred days languishing in an impenetrable Tevene prison at the bottom of the sea. But he doesn't do it alone—and like it or not, his new demonic cellmate may be his only hope of escape. Sometimes the only way to fight your demons is to make a deal instead.

The Potential To Be That You���ll Never See, Promises You’ll Only Make

He would be patient. He had nothing but time. “Facing your fears, Calivan?” asked Lucanis, sitting cross-legged with his back against the jagged rock wall. “I have nothing to fear from a pet,” Calivan sneered. “The Crows have a long memory.” Lucanis smiled. “What does that mean?” “Did Zara not tell you? A contract cannot be failed. If the Crow who accepted it dies, another will pick it up. You will always be hunted—until one of us finally succeeds.” Calivan made a show of scoffing, but the others around him—blood mages, their faces covered—shifted uneasily. “If the infamous Mage-Killer could not succeed, I have nothing to fear of the other pesky birds. Don’t bother,” said Calivan, standing before the barrier of Lucanis’ cell with his hands clasped behind his back. Gutsy, when he had Zara’s magic to hide behind. “Anyone else who comes looking for me will meet the exact same fate as you.” Lucanis slowly rose up and stood directly in front of him. He was wild by now—his hair and beard left to grow out, his clothes torn from constant wear, stained. He was covered in dried blood, salty tear tracks, sand. Yet still he stood firm, his face inches from Calivan’s, his twitchy fingers a quick swipe from his neck, and he could see that the mage, in spite of his show of superiority, was a weak and fearful little man. Calivan knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that his days were numbered. “Abrir la puerta, Calivan,” he taunted, baring his teeth. The Venatori were notoriously afraid of any languages that they did not understand, and since they were also too xenophobic to learn any, Lucanis could have recited a grocery list in Antivan and still enjoyed the sight of the mage’s throat bobbing convulsively, the slight widening of his eyes. “Save your breath for your screams, demon.” Lucanis feinted forward. Calivan flinched. Lucanis cackled, relishing the moment even as they began dragging him out of his cell, bound in blood magic, to suffer once more.

Hi guys... just felt like sharing one of my darker one-shots. I enjoy taking a minor side character and... making them grow. If you visit mind the tags at the top... it was not meant to be a happy love story... or have a happy ending!

After barely scraping past that fight myself, I saw someone else attack the duplicates and was kicking myself for not trying that. They just disintegrate in one hit.

I was spending so much time making absolutely sure I was burning down the real Calivan, but you can just wipe out the dupes and it massively cuts down on the incoming projectiles. 😅

i think ive died more to the calivan fight on nightmare mode than i have any other encounter INCLUDING HIGH DRAGONS on underdog mode. what on earth. half of it was because my rook kept backflipping instead of just strafing but the other half is bc of those FUCKING PROJECTILES 💀💀💀

"Only his feelings," says Rook, tone low and stiff. Being in an elevator with an abomination is making her nervous. "Caterina didn't tell him you were alive until she sent us after you. He was furious."

"Are you worried?" Neve teases. "Nobody told us our mage-killer was going to be such a sap."

"Right," Rook agrees flatly, too anxious to play along. "We'll put it in the news sheets: the Demon of Vyrantium does indeed have a heart."

Lucanis reaches for the elevator's lever and wrenches it to a stop.

This is probably relatable to no one, but one of my absolute favorite things to do in Dragon Age games is to kick the 2nd playthrough up to Nightmare mode… but instead of playing the combat as intended, I do the doofiest, most cheesed-up nonsense to powerlevel my way past problems.

In Inquisition I would drop into stealth and then run around the Hissing Wastes reading the most xp-rich journals known to man. In Veilguard I just defeated the qamekmaster at around level 8. Well, “defeated” is a strong word, I stood on the tiny strip of balcony that counts as “in the combat area” without actually dropping into the room. Under my very heroic supervision, Lucanis and Harding handled the problem.

I got almost 2 full levels out of it. 😅
