HEWWO. top five bugs you’d want to chew on (bc you’re a bug eater)
thank you dearest brother for this entirely hypothetical question seeing as though i do not eat bugs
that said should i be persuaded to under some sort of dire circumstances, these are the bugs i would want to eat:
limacodid slug caterpillar
Tumblr media
[ID: a very spherical and featureless bug sitting on a leaf that is a slightly translucent green color, making it like like a watermelon gummy candy.]
2. kaputar slug
Tumblr media
[ID: a large, bright pink slug crawling down a tree that has a slight crease down the middle of its back and branching off of that down the sides, making it look like a piece of raw meat or fish]
3. calleta silkmoth caterpillar
Tumblr media
[ID: a fat caterpillar with a mainly light green body, with parallel rows of dots going down its body. the dots go from bright orange, to a ring of black, to bright blue, to black spikes. the caterpillar is on a rock]
4. rhinocerous beetle
Tumblr media
[ID: a large, black and brown beetle on a branch. the beetle is thick and strong looking, and has two large horns, one on the top of its head, and another between its eyes]
5. picasso bug
Tumblr media
[ID: a stinkbug on a plant stem. the stinkbu has an off white base color, with an eclectic pattern of teal, orange, and black that look like geometric, abstract art]

For the tea asks!
Chamomile and green tea
-🌻
Teatime Asks!
Wait the thought just popped into my head but the snippet of one of Albedo's quotes that I'm using for my blog-- "You get a fragrant taste that's simply...unforgettable" could sound like he's talking about tea and that's very nice!
Ah
Especially in comparison to the true quote, if you're squeamish about it. Even though the true quote is just as endearing as it is hilarious-
chamomile: comfort movie?
I'll do another movie for this now! :DD
Wait okay it's been like three or four hours and I couldn't think of a movie to save my life- like that's the only reason why this took so long I just can't think of another movie-
WAIT NO IT'S ALREADY 6 IT'S BEEN 5 HOURS SINCE YOU SENT THIS IN
ohhh I am suffering-
green tea: where do you feel most at peace?
Ahh I'm a homebody, despite liking new experiences. So I feel most at peace in my room, normally under the covers with a good book or a nice nap.
There's just something about the peace and quiet, knowing that the space is mine and mine alone, and taking in a breath to smell the faint sweetness of vanilla (I still haven't figured out why my room smells like it--I haven't been burning any candles or using perfume and my shampoo is fruit-scented) and earthiness of just-watered plants that's so calming.
(Me rambling about my plants among other things-)
In fact--and this isn't really related to the ask--I actually just recently pruned my monstera! It's leaves are a lovely deep shade of green and getting rather large. The ones at the base are bigger than my hand!
I also have a small coffee plant (technically it's my mom's) that was near death, but just a few months of weekly watering and a little bit of tea as well (coffee plants like a bit of acidity and black tea has a lot of nutrients!) it's keeping it's leaves incredibly well and they're all very shiny and green! A little bit of misting now and then doesn't hurt, as well, so I do that every few weeks.
Other than those, I have a few miscellaneous plants- I've been growing some sweet basil, sage (they have soft, fuzzy leaves :DD), peppermint, thyme, and sweet pea! Though...The sweet pea didn't do so well since it outgrew it's pot ehe
I have a large, orange pumpkin-shaped pot ready for it once I decide to plant more sweet pea seeds!
The herbs have been moved outside in the garden but technically the garden is more of a bunch of pots on a few wooden shelves- hopefully I'll be able to have a big planter so they can all be in-ground instead.
AH I ALSO HAVE FLOWER SEEDS
I'm very excited for those! I have poppies, sunflowers, carnations (my favorite!), marigold, pansy, lunaria, and a few packets of local wildflowers for the butterflies + bees nodnod. I actually was thinking of contacting one of the local butterfly conservatories because they have a program where you can get milkweed native to the area to encourage people to help the butterfly population-
- cw: insects, dead insects -
Ehe I also actually contacted them before about the possibilities of purchasing or receiving some of the butterflies that have since passed for research/educational purposes since I am a biology major and I've done some research in the past regarding local butterfly populations as well as observing their behaviors on campus!
That and I also pin insects (though I only pin those that are already dead + are found naturally).
With this I have a few different specimen! I have: a walking stick, two cicadas (one male, one female), a cicada husk (I got really lucky and the cicada that emerged from it just so happened to be clinging tightly on a leaf!), an ox beetle, a bee (:< very sad when I found it), and a few snout-nosed butterflies!
I also have, what I'm 99% certain, a calleta silkmoth (Eupackardia calleta) that's been in it's cocoon for quite some time. Unfortunately, I think it might've passed since it's been a few years, though they are known to spend quite a bit of time in there so I'm staying hopeful!
Not to mention, the weather has been somewhat abnormal compared to usual where I live-
But it would be a shame if it doesn't emerge because that'd also infer that quite a few of the population wouldn't have as well since they're sensitive to outside conditions. If the conditions aren't right, they won't come out and the chance of mortality increases. In turn, the local population as a whole would suffer and that's never good, even if they're a secure species.

#NationalMothWeek continues with a species I’m looking forward to seeing again soon.
Calleta silkmoth (Eupackardia calleta), Welder Wildlife Refuge in Sinton TX, October 2014.
Most silkmoths are nocturnal, as their size can make them an easy target for hungry birds and other predators. However, female Calleta silkmoths release their sex pheromones in the morning, with males risking their lives in the daylight to reproduce. Females wait until dark to seek out host plants to lay their eggs, with some females capable of laying eggs within 12 hours of emerging from their cocoons.
Caterpillars feed on many legume plants, including ash, lime prickly ash, Mexican jumping bean, sage, as well as citrus plants. I have yet to see a caterpillar in the wild but provide an image below, courtesy of R Ted Frey 2014 via BugGuide.
