Vengeance Saga is coming out in a day and I would like to say something regarding I’m Not Sorry for Loving You
I better not see anyone using that song as an excuse for Calypso. That song is an explanation for her character, not an excuse. The song is literally about how she’s not sorry for trapping and unintentionally abusing Odysseus for seven years.
It’s not an apology (Literally in the name. If it was then it’s a pretty bad and victim blamey apology), it’s not an excuse, it’s just an explanation. And I will be damned if people use it to excuse her, gods know there’s enough Calypso apologist in the Epic fandom and just in media related to the Odyssey in general.

did u ever think of ler!Calypso and lee!odysseus?
Oh I’ve def thought about it lmao. She’s so clingy & touchy feely & he’s so flustered about it. But I don’t really see myself writing a fic with them because of the nature of their relationship, & I’ve been seeing a lot of Calypso hate, so I’m kinda hesitant to write anything with the 2 of them together. I would love to write something with Calypso, but just not with him
Plus, I can’t help but see her as more of a lee (it’s that sweet lil giggle)

Say it louder!!! In my opinion, Annabeth is more like Calypso (Homer version, though Calypso in the series is a total creep pedo). They both want to keep these men they claim to "love" trapped. Keeping them completely reliant on them, where they fall to the feet of their betters. Where they no longer have autonomy to fight back or say no, filled with the constant emotional and physical manipulation.
Where Percy can't do anything without Annabeth. Where he isn't allowed friends or dreams that don't align with hers. Like he's a possession for her to use as she wishes until he breaks too much and she'll throw him away, or worse, she'll keep breaking him until he withers away.
Ok, so I am HOWLING with laughter.
So, have you heard? People are comparing Percy and Annabeth to................Odysseus and Penelope.
When I heard this, you don't know how funny it was to me. I almost choked on my spit. LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
Penelope would NEVER hit or insult Odysseus. She doesn't play mind games with him and they communicate properly.
Odysseus and Penelope are not toxic. Percabeth is.
Also, Rick Riordan is LEAGUES worse than Homer. Like, the guy cannot even compare to the ACTUAL GREEK POET.
And people are actually comparing the two.
Percy Jackson IS good at times, but it will NEVER compare to Homer's compositions. Literally never.
TBH that's just my personal opinion.
Also, Homer actually composed many of the Greek epics that we still read today.
I get why people would want to compare them, but there is no comparison, really. It's so fucking funny to me.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on Percabeth compared to Odysseus and Penelope?
That comparison alone has ruined the New Year for me. It's an insult to the Odyssey. Hell, it's an insult to the recently released Ithaca Saga of Epic the Musical.
But seriously, are these things actually being said? Cause that puts Percabeth stans from delusional category to brain dead.
Homer's Iliad and The Odyssey are one of history's most reputed myths of all time. And the primary source of Greek mythology for many people. I am certain Rick himself referred Homer's works for ideas and references. Even Riordan himself would be ashamed to compare his writing to Homer, in even the slightest manner.
Now to Odysseus and Penelope; the greatest couple of all time, truly and undeniably. The orignal eternal love. Even Hera, the goddess of marriage and family, considers Odysseus and Penelope's marriage bed sacred. Which Odysseus carved out of a living tree as a symbol of their undying love and so that it could never be moved.
Odysseus crawled through hell to get to Penelope and Telemachus. He survived and won the 10 year long Trojan war, defeated/ tricked a Cyclops, countless mythical monsters, Circe, Calypso, and even Zeus himself and at last Poseidon. That alone is beyond comprehension. Because Odysseus isn't a demigod or any specially blessed being. No, he is just an ordinary mortal, a genius mortal, one trained by the wisdom goddess but an ordinary mortal all the same. Yes, he is one of a kind genius, but these are literally eldritch creatures compared to him.
Let me put it this way, Odysseus is the OG Batman. He is who all smart fictional human characters aspire to be.
The Odyssey is literally about the all transcending power of human will. Of Odysseus's sheer fucking will to get back home, to his wife and son. That's it. A common desire of a common man, yet so miraculously burning and indomitable in Odysseus's mind that it alone outshines his extraordinary genius.
He quite literally died on his way there. Had to hitch a ride through the Underworld and then some.
Then he had to sacrifice his ENTIRE CREW, HIS FRIENDS, HIS COMRADES to get back to Ithaca. Mind you, Odysseus had the record of getting every single one of his 600 men alive out of Trojan War. The only one to have done so. And he had to lose some to the tragedies and then WILLINGLY SACRIFICE others to get back to Penelope.
I don't think there are words enough to encapsulate Odysseus's dedication.
Now Penelope. The thing is, she is just as bloody impressive. The Queen of Ithaca and a Spartan Princess, she is also one of a kind. Throughout Odysseus's departure and the suitors' invasion , not five, not ten, 108 SUITORS, Penelope held her own, keeping the castle, her son Telemachus and herself secure. All the while, raising Telemachus and running the kingdom on her own as well.
She tricked the suitors into an eternally futile game of trying to lift Odysseus's bow and shoot with it. Tricked them by telling them she was weaving Odysseus's shroud, which, when finished, would signify that she is picking a new husband. Each day, she would weave for all suitors to see, and each night, she would unravel the shroud. All in an attempt to stall. Among the many other ways, she did so. Including STEADFASTLY DENYING EACH AND EVERY SUITOR CONSTANTLY FOR YEARS AS THEY ASKED FOR HER HAND, NEVER ONCE LOSING HOPE OR FAITH IN ODYSSEUS.
When Odysseus returns, disguised as a beggar, she not only immediately recognizes him but subtly helps him in killing the suitors, which then Odysseus and Telemachus proceed to do.
All 108 suitors dead in a night. Add that to 600 men under Odysseus's command. 708 lives murdered and then some all for Odysseus and Penelope to reunite.
And this is me abridging the whole thing. Imagine the struggle, the suffering, the mental and physical trauma. 20 years straight. You can't fathom it.
I don't think I have words enough to state how repulsively disrespectfully wretched this comparison is. I would use an analogy, but it's so horrendous that I don't think there's one that suffices.
I literally have more than half the posts dedicated to dismantling the delusion of percabeth being a perfect ship, so I won't preach to the choir, but I mean Annabeth's fatal flaw is Hubris and Percy's is Personal Loyalty. Go figure.
If that isn't enough, Percy jumped in Tartarus for Annabeth. She fell, but Percy jumped, among the many other ways he has saved her from countless deaths. And Annabeth offers him what in return? It would have been alright if she gave him nothing in return, but somehow, the situation is EVEN WORSE.
Physical and mental demeaning. Toxic and controlling attitude and of course BLAMING HIM FOR GETTING KIDNAPPED AND HAVING HIS MEMORY WIPED BY A GODDESS. WOW, THAT SOUNDS SO SIMILAR TO PENELOPE AND ODYSSEUS.
Not to mention, Penelope accepted her husband, as he was. Even after being so completely changed by his tragic journey that he was quite literally NO LONGER HIMSELF.
And Percy when had to CHOKE AKHYLS WHO WAS DEFINITELY GOING TO KILL HIM AND ANNABETH, WAS KILLING HIM AND ANNABETH, OUT OF SELF DEFENSE AND SHE BLAMES HIM AND FORCES HIM TO PROMISE NOT TO USE HIS POWERS TO DEFEND HIMSELF???
WHAT THE FUCK??? And sure it would have been ignorable had it not had any long term effects. BUT NO PERCY ALMOST KILLS HIMSELF OUT OF KEEPING HIS PROMISE TO ANNABETH.
Call them whatever the hell you want but DON'T EVER COMPARE THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO ODYSSEUS AND PENELOPE.
PERCY DESERVES INFINITELY BETTER THAN ANNABETH. Enough said, really.

In Defense of Calypso, an essay on Rick Riordan’s daughter of Atlas.
(Note: I will not be discussing the characterization of Calypso or the dynamic between Calypso and Leo Valdez within Trials of Apollo, as I believe they were unsuccessfully written to follow the bickering couple trope. I feel similarly towards the characterization of Nico di Angelo and Will Solace and their relationship in The Sun and the Star, and I feel it unfair to judge the dynamic that was written to mimic the popularity of Percabeth.)
“I'm coming back for you Calypso," he said to the night wind. "I swear on the river Styx. (House of Hades)
Ogygia exits in a pocket of time, similar to the Lotus Casino that trapped Nico di Angelo as eleven years old for decades. When reading a book, you have to remember the context in which it was written; It is unfair and frankly illiterate behavior to justify your hatred for innocent writing by warping the context of a children’s book. Rick Riordan, as senseless as his modern characterizations of the PJO cast are, would not write one of his few romantic relationships involving a main character to be predatory. Young adult fantasy has a target audience of people as young as 12 years old, who (in most cases) would not be able to derive insightful commentary with such extreme and complex dynamics. Instead, the characters and relationships presented should follow a storyline that focuses on relatable teenage experiences with a narration that reflects adolescent thought processes. A pedophilic character and a predatory relationship dynamic is a trope that is generally considered too graphic to successfully write within a series such as Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Instead, the relationship between Calypso and Leo is supposed to be an optimistic end to two characters who have dealt with longstanding heartache and loneliness. It can be considered an undermining of satisfactory character development, as having a character who struggles with loneliness find peace in being alone in a world that emphasizes the absolute necessity of alloromantic relationships would be a unique ending to the story and important messaging that romantic relationships do not “fix” a person. However, bashing Calypso for the profitable route that the author decided to follow (which is understandable, as the success of his previous novels within fandoms was partially because of the popularity of the romantic relationship between Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase (or “Percabeth”)) is not intelligent media consumption.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians emphasizes an overarching message of disability, how a person may struggle with disability in a world that doesn’t accommodate them, and how disability limiting a person’s abilities does not limit their character. The series is fundamentally a commentary on disability and trauma, as it was written to engage and represent Rick Riordan’s son who struggled with ADHD and dyslexia. While our main cast similarly struggles with these same two disorders, characters like Tyson, Nico di Angelo, and Leo Valdez are written more intentionally to represent disabilities such as Down syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder respectively. As the series develops, we see themes of trauma and long-lasting consequences of psychological and emotional distress, as it is assumed that the audience ages with the series and can digest mature themes more successfully. Calypso, because of her centuries-long isolation and repeated heartbreak resulting from the only close relationships she manages to develop, struggles with abandonment issues. It is not a stretch to say she may also struggle with social cues, similar to how a neurodivergent person may struggle to understand what behaviors are appropriate or not. To call her “mean,” “toxic,” “abusive,” or anything along these lines undermines the trauma responses Rick has made the effort to represent. Instead, it stands to demonize people with mental illness, assuming that their struggles define who they are and the relationships they have. The treatment Calypso receives for her trauma-based behavior is not applied to the male cast of characters, assumedly because of the standards misogyny has created for all women, even fictional.
Referencing the aforementioned defense of her “bad” behavior, many have criticized Calypso because of the curse she unintentionally placed on Annabeth which is seen in the House of Hades.
“We did nothing, the demons said. Your beloved has unleashed a special curse—a bitter thought from someone you abandoned. You punished an innocent soul by leaving her in solitude. Now her most hateful wish has come to pass: Annabeth feels her despair. She, too, will perish alone and abandoned.” (House of Hades, pg. 235)
However, it should be considered that, before Annabeth and Percy Jackson (and Nico di Angelo), no demigod had traveled to Tartarus, never mind surviving it. The demon encountered by the duo was not a common enemy, but a monster that could only be encountered within such a deep part of the underworld. Calypso, rightful in her bitterness though not in who she blamed for it, could not have assumed that Annabeth would encounter the Arai and suffer at their hands. (Note: this is assuming that Calypso had intentionally placed this curse, as it is equally likely that it was an unintentional manifestation of negative emotions)
According to a poll conducted by the Tumblr blog riordanverse-ship-polls, 93.9% of 346 voters feel, neutral or positively towards the ship between Leo Valdez and Jason Grace. 49.4% of these voters state Valgrace as their OTP or one true pairing. Additionally, the Valgrace tag on Tumblr has 2.1 thousand followers, and the tag that marks a romantic relationship between the two on Archive of Our Own has 1,651 fanfictions written (as of February 17, 2025). It is not unfair to assume that this pairing is popular within the fandom. This begs the question— how many people express hatred towards Calypso and her relationship with Leo Valdez because they would prefer a relationship between Leo and Jason? When scrolling through the Caleo tag on Tumblr, the Valgrace tag makes an impressive number of appearances. It is a common experience to see female characters hated in a movie, television show, book series, etc. because they “get in the way of” a ship between two men. It is a result of deeply rooted misogyny within fandom culture, which believes that male characters and relationships between men are inherently more complex than female characters and female relationships. This is not intended to be an absolute opinion, but instead a question that I ask every Valgrace shipper— are you holding female characters, specifically Calypso, to the same degree of morality that you hold the male characters? (Note: I do not intend to bash Valgrace or Valgrace shippers, but seeing the loud minority of them post Valgrace and anti-Calypso/anti-Caleo content under the Caleo tags is beyond frustrating. Ship and let ship!)
I believe I have addressed the reoccurring arguments in opposition to the ship between Calypso and Leo Valdez from Rick Riordan’s “Hero of Olympus” series, and those who incorrectly label Calypso as a mean, toxic, or abusive character. Greek Mythology does not allow for characters to be strictly “good” or “bad,” but instead allows readers to see the complexity of each action and its consequence. Though written for a younger audience, the same level of understanding must be given to the characters of the Riordanverse series.
(Please note, I am a 17 year old with limited experience with academic writing. Any constructive criticisms are welcomed, but I ask that you be considerate when disagreeing.)

the captain & his sea. davy jones!kim hongjoong x calypso!reader pt 3/ previous drabble / drabble masterlist 780 words. barely edited.
Since he could remember, Hongjoong knew he belonged to the sea. Being born of a sailor father and his mother dying in childbirth, it was only natural to think that the ship he grew up on was where he was meant to be. With the sweet-salt air tacky against his skin and the ever-luring light on the horizon taunting him that his adventure was not yet over, Hongjoong was a devoted sailor through and through. He never truly gained control of his land legs, preferring the rickety wood planks of a ship to the terrain of an island.
He had been in love with the sea for as long as he could remember.
His one and only love.
He had thought it had all changed when he met her.
Hongjoong almost was convinced she was a ghost when he first spotted her; the way the sun hit her skin seemed ethereal. Like an oil slick was upon her skin, she gleamed in the sunlight like the way the waves licking at the shore sparkled with an aurora of colors. She was sat on the docks of a port with her dresses damp with salt water spray and her feet bare, sticky with sand. Her eyes glanced at the bustling port from atop of her barrel like a queen overlooking her land. She smiled at the way some sailors thanked Poseidon for safe passage. She grinned as they set off once more, riggings clanking as they made sail.
An albatross landed beside her, cawing and chirping. Not a head turned to look. She didnt even flinch at the big bird. He almost thought she was invisible, but then there was the immediate follow-up question of how could anyone ignore something so beautiful?
He saw her there, against the sky. Sun on her shoulders, wind in her hair. And all he felt was that she was someone he’d always known. The curl of her lip, the calm yet chaos that radiated from her as she rose a hand to pet at the albatross.
“That there is a bad omen, you know,” he commented, his chin nodding towards the bird that chittered at the woman.
She smiled at him as if she knew he’d say that, and he felt the air get knocked out of his lungs.
“Is it now?” she chuckled. “I’ve been told women are bad luck as well.”
Hongjoong’s chuckles were a bashful thing as he watched as she leaned forward on her palms. Her intrigue in him felt special. He had watched her eye and glance away at many sailors that passed by her. Not one had caught her attention as he had. Not one looked at her with such admiration.
“Aye, some say that,” he agreed. His hand went to fiddle with the soft-brown hair that tickled his neck. “They say the sea – that she is a jealous lover. Can’t stand another lady around her men.”
She rolled her eyes lightly, but the fondness in her tone was palpable as a breeze on the ocean. “These tales you sailors make up.” It was gentle before she tilted her head. “Do you believe it?”
“That women are bad luck?” he clarified raising a brow.
“That the sea is a jealous lover?” It was a sharper query.
Hongjoong blinked at that, taken a back.
“No.” It was an easy thing to admit. “She isn’t. She is everything. The sea is powerful and mysterious and welcoming and cruel and wonderful. Her waves are my compass.”
“Hm.” It was a sound of approval. The bird beside her cawed and flew off as she shifted from her spot, shoving off the barrel and landing besides the sailor.
His hand went to grasp her arm to steady her. She felt sun-warmed. Humid-tacky. A wave of the smell of her brushed over him – warm, salt-tinged sweetness. Like salt-water taffy. Coconut cream, over-ripened bananas, the grit of sand. How could she be so much? He didn’t know anything except that he knew he was intrigued.
“What’s your name, sailor?” she queried, glancing the young man up and down.
Hongjoong stepped back then. His work-roughened hand left her skin – with it the static electric hum tingling up his arm.
“Hongjoong,” he replied.
She smiled at his name and, for the first time, something outshined the horizon.
“I sense a touch of destiny about you, Captain Kim Hongjoong.” She teased, stepping closer. Her smile sparkled as she leaned in. He had a fleeting thought of how did she know his name, his full name… but then she trailed her hand over his arm, boldly. Each stroke of her soft skin against his felt like heaven, like lightning climbing over his cells.
“Y/N.” she introduced as she interlaced their hands in a sort of greeting. Intimate and special, just like her. She squeezed his hand like an octopus capturing its prey.
“Y/N.” he echoed, enraptured by what vexed all men: a woman.

Okay soooo I might get bashed for saying this but unpopular opinion coming and a rant hopefully this is a safe space;
.
.
Six hundred strike was amazing musically: unlike many I enjoyed the beginning of the song but by the end I was a bit put off because how does Odysseus, a mortal defeat a literal god, not just a god but POSEIDON god of the fricken sea and earthquakes? Like it’s a cool concept but it’s just… makes Poseidon look and seem weak then in the ocean saga. Sure Odysseus became a “monster” but he’s still a mortal, I also find the “six hundred strike” silly like Odysseus did that?…. Using a wind bag?
I enjoy the concept but the plot kinda turns it off for me (not that it’s bad please don’t bash me) Poseidon is one of the 3 major gods, I feel like Odysseus was made to be too overpowered I’d understand if there was a power boost or divine intervention. Poseidon is made to seem weak which contradicts seeing him as a threat. It strays from the original Odyssey way more in this song, and the song is very amazing though I find it silly how Poseidon was defeated and how Odysseus is way too over powered.
And let’s talk about the animation, the person who made it is so very talented but I feel it doesn’t fit, the jet pack windbag? Boss battle? Interesting but it really put me off when I listened and watched it it kinda ruined the aspects for me.
Overall in the end I feel six hundred strike had a good concept and was very great musically but I personally didn’t like the plot of Odysseus defeating Poseidon so easily I mean the man has many different powers aswell? Anyways this is just my personal opinion
Another rant: Also I loved the song “I’m not sorry for loving you” though I feel like if I even said that out loud I’d be bashed by the fandom because, yes, calypso is a bad person I know but the song is really nice and musical it doesnt mean I like the things she’s doing to Odysseus.
Another rant (apologies); I feel like everyone is too blindsided with Odysseus, a lot of people blame everyone but him a lot like he’s just a “cinnamon roll who loves his wife so much and the crew are all a-holes” because like eurylochus he also made mistakes aswell he tries to keep his crew alive abd get home but we do have to accept that this was from Greek mythology he is a flawed character aswell and I enjoy him for that. It makes the audience connect with Odysseus.
Another thing, wisdom saga— I feel Telemachus is used like a child a characterization of a child or teenager unlike the 20 year old he is. It’s a bit off putting for me. And it’s possible to make him innocent and grown such as the use of Polites. Personally he’s like an embodiment of a child and it’s weird to me because he’s a prince and will be king, shouldn’t he have some roles?
Now another thing connecting onto what I just said about “Odysseus does no wrong” ALOT of people in the fandom seem to use Eurylochus as a scapegoat for their hatred and anger to who’s at fault when it’s really the gods and fate, it’s just something the fandom has created to put the anger on why Odysseus couldn’t get home quickly, and I can understand because we look through Odysseus’s perspective throughout the musical. But personally I feel like Eurylochus gets too much hate he is sadly the scapegoat. Even the crew, but it’s saddening because they also have lives, they had family, they are mere mortals what are they to do? What would you all do in these situations if you didn’t know Odysseus’s plans and inner monologues? How would you act?
It’s honestly saddening you can’t like eurylochus without a person spewing about why they hate him, heck I’ve even seen just simple cute TikTok and art about the man but people place hatred within the comments about the character. And it’s only him, you could like Odysseus, polites, perimedies elpenor, Circe, etc. but hate Eurylochus?
<<This is all I have to rant about this is a safe space on my acc for all opinions so you can comment your own opinions, just don’t be mean to eachother>>
(I’m most likely gonna get hate or bashed sadly for having these opinions though I genuinely enjoy the musical a ton. I feel the fandoms grown a bit toxic lately.)

The (My) NorthStar [Part 1]
(This was made with a few brainstorming ideas I had with @mas-away , go follow them right now and check their art!!)
After Hermes helped Odysseus leave the island of Calypso, and their talk while he was on his raft, he had gathered a bit of wood that he didn’t need and had decided to carve a little NorthStar of the size of his palm.
It was far from being as perfect as he wanted, but there wasn’t much he could do when being in the middle of the sea while trying to escape Poseidon and also keeping an eye out for possible dangers.
By the time he was done, it was already the second day being in the sea and knew that Hermes would visit later to bring him some food, something good he hopes, he’s been missing Ithaca’s dishes but he would soon be able to have them again.
After waiting for what felt hours upon hours, Hermes finally made his appearance with his characteristic giggle, swooping down and picking him up by the armpits and flying up in the air before going back down to let him back in solid surface.
“Hello there, my dear great-grandson.” The god chirped, watching as the mortal man regained his bearings before looking up at him.
“Hey, Hermes. Here for our daily talk?” He asks with a laugh as he sits down, making sure that his gift is hidden beneath his blanket, thanking to Athena that Hermes had been kind enough to give him one to cover himself in the cold nights.
“Why, but of course! I would never miss them, plus, I have to enjoy our time together before I let you continue your journey.” Hermes mused as he floated above the raft before setting his feet down, sitting cross-legged and making a show with his hands, more for the fun of it than anything, and making some food appear.
“And to feed you. I wouldn’t forget about such an important thing, as much as you’re ruthless, you’re still a mortal and feel hunger.” The dish that had appeared in his hands was none other than an Ithacan dish: Cuttlefish with rice.
Odysseus looked at the dish and swallowed a lump that suddenly formed in his throat, too focused on the food to even see the sympathetic look Hermes was giving him.
The mortal took a breath before rising the fork and taking a bite from the food, chewing, and swallowing before continuing to eat in silence; both him and Hermes stayed quiet about the tears that rolled down his cheek the moment he took the first bite.
After finishing that, keeping the bowl away and taking a moment to calm down, Odysseus sighed and looked at Hermes, who was whistling quietly while poking at a winnion that was in his lap. No doubt, Aeolus would want an update on the winds that were, ahem, borrowed from them, even if that wasn’t the word they would use for their bag being taken by the god of thieves.
Anything to help his family, anyways, so Hermes didn’t really feel guilty about it.
“Hermes.” Odysseus spoke, making the god look up and grin at him, the tooth gap clear and reminding Odysseus of his own when he was younger.
“What’s up, Ody?” He hummed, continuing to poke the winnion before deciding to let it take a small nap in his hands, little enough to fit in them and look almost like a ball of wool rather than a divine creature of the skies.
“I got something for you, like a gift, for so to say.” The mortal commented, although a bit bashful, clearly embarrassed, although by what? Hermes wasn’t sure, there weren’t many things he could be embarrassed about in the middle of nowhere, more so if he was gifting him something.
Which was another thing, what could he possibly gift the god, when not having really anything other than his sword, Athena’s brooch, the wind bag and now a bowl of Ithaca, to which Hermes was sure wouldn’t really survive in his journey.
He was pulled out of his thoughts when the mortal handed him a carved figure, well, not any carved figure, but one of the NorthStar. It was big, although not as big as his own palm but close enough. The rubbed the wood and felt a little something behind, turning it around to see a few words carved on it.
My NorthStar.
The god was at loss of words, looking up at him and back down to the carved star for several times before croaking out: “What is this?”
Odysseus rubbed the back of his head, suddenly feeling very self-conscious and interested in the water. “Well- You said to follow the NorthStar, and, well, back at Circe’s island you also guided me to the right path and helped me save my man, even if that..well, you know.” He cleared his throat, shaking his head and looking back at him with a small huff, tapping his fingers against his thighs in a nervous movement.
“So? Do you like it? It took me quite a while, mostly to carve out the words.” He added with pursed lips.
Hermes stared at him, dumbfounded before his face broke into a grin, a joyus laugh leaving his lips as he threw himself at Odysseus, the man letting out a startled shout as he was suddenly shoved against the raft to then be pulled into the air, twirled around in his great-grandparent’s arms as if he was one of the winnions.
Which reminded him that the poor thing had been sent flying the moment Hermes had made his happiness clear by being loud and quick on his feet.
“Like it? Oh, I love it, Ody! You did such a good job! Surprising, given your current circumstances but nonetheless, I’m very proud of you.” He commented with a giggle, putting him back down on the raft before lifting himself in the air.
“Well, I gotta go now! I must show everyone this little trinket, I’m sure Athena will be jealous!” He cackled before disappearing in a speck of shiny, little sparks around the purple-blue colored powder he left behind him.
Odysseus was, to say the least, baffled for a few seconds before laughing, shaking his head with a sigh as he laid down on his back. Soon enough he would be back home, to his wife and his son, and, hopefully, he could get to talk to Hermes more often too. He was not only part of his family by blood now, no, he was part of his family in his heart and mind too.

Calypso: Ody, my love. I can be silent no longer. All you do lately is mutter to yourself, gibber, dribble, moan and bash your head against the wall, yelling “gods, let me die!!!".
Calypso: Now you may say I’m leaping to conclusions, but....you’re not completely happy, are you?

calypso having an emotion-centered character and being viewed & getting treated as the ‘evil woman’ is actually a reflection of how every woman's emotions are villainized when they’re shown vividly and are a main part of their character in popular media.
in general media and riordanverse specifically, women with emotions are always looked down upon because showing emotions is regarded as a dramatic act so when a female character shows and acts on their emotiotions they get degraded and instantly despised because of it. this is done with every single female character while male characters who show emotion are treated like saints and found worthy of self redemption. this happened with annabeth when she didn’t want to believe luke was the bad guy and wanted to try bring him back because she was manipulated by him her entire life, meanwhile luke, who did batshit crimes like causing hundreds of innocent deaths, manipulating little girls by flirting with them, admitting his crush to a 16 year-old at his ripe age of 23, is remembered as a hero and considered ‘redeemed himself’ after sacrificing himself while annabeth was called insufferable when she didn’t believe he was evil in the first place. let’s not forget piper, who’s a lesbian that was forced into a relationship with a man by a goddess and thought she was in the wrong for not feeling right with jason. during the entire relationship she was experiencing a very hard comphet and couldn’t figure herself out because of the fake memories, everybody was bashing her when she was acting confused, when she was, in fact confused. i have a longer post about this specific topic, so if you guys wanna check it out it’s right here.
coming back to calypso, first we need to clear out the misconceptions about her curse on percy that affected annabeth. she wasn't blind nor was personally attacking annabeth, her curse was to make someone feel like how she was feeling all time and that’s why percy and annabeth couldn’t reach out to one another while being right next to each other. annabeth’s blindness came from the titan she defeated in the sea of monsters and is actually the first curse to be put by the arai on them, so it has nothing to do with calypso. the curse was affecting annabeth because she happened to be the person percy loved and was right next to him. if percy was there alone either percy would feel alone and abandoned or the curse wouldn’t affect him at all, since there’s no person he can go back to save. and the curse itself wasn’t even a death wish type of curse she just wanted to be heard, be acknowledged and wanted free off her island. not to forget the curse wasn't harming or killing any of them yet it’s still demonized more than by literally every other thing that happened in the books. nothing luke has ever done is seen as evil as her curse just because it was by her and i’m pretty positive if something like this was shown in pjo by luke it would be glossed over and romanticized in the fandom. further proof of how a male character's actions get brushed off and forgiven easily but soon a female character does something even slightly questionable they get villainized on the spot.
she is also despised because she doesn't let everyone's favorite man get away with his misogynistic stuff. calypso doesn't treat leo any worse than he treats her. whenever she starts arguing it is a response to something leo has said or done, which in the most case she's in the right but leo gets so much slack from his past and being fandom favorite to be held accountable for the way he treats people. he's always been written as a misogynist, he never treated any women with any respect. he always had some sort of disrespect for every female character he seems have some sort of closure with like piper, hazel, calypso, the list goes on, but yet calypso is always expected to be more 'tolerable and understanding' bc of his trauma, as if every single character in the series isn't written upon a single trauma they had and have their character built on it. and he always had a problem dealing with others and their emotions and instead of expecting him to be working to change that, calypso is expected to adjust his manners.
oddly enough, she's also expected to show some gratitude towards leo for saving her, when she never asked him to do so and not for a second believed that he was actually going to come back when he said he would. is she grateful that he came back and freed her? yes. should she feel any obligations to make him feel greater because of it? NO. everything leo did for calypso was his and only his choice and nobody else's. calypso is happy that he did so, but expecting her to tolarate every single thing he does solely because of that is wrong.

EPIC is such a great interpretation of the Odyssey, remaining faithful to the original while also expanding upon the characters and adapting some stuff for better story beats
….that is to say if I see one more person bashing Calypso I’m going to lovingly hit them with a bat :3

FAQ
1. Are Calypso-neutral works allowed?
- Yes. Any work that isn't mean spirited is allowed.
2. Are R rated works allowed?
- Yes, as long as it isn't bashing, overly fetishizing, or depicting sexual violence as kink or discourse (It just doesn't fit with the event).
3. Why do you support Calypso?
- In Epic the Musical, Calypso does not rape Odysseus, and there are mixed signals about whether Calypso chose trap Odysseus or if it was Zeus. I believe that the fandom view of Calypso is too simplistic and vitriolic.

Marinette Bashing as a concept is just so...bad to me, but the main thing I don't like about it is how the fics are just boring and uncreative. They all revolve around making almost every other character the pinnacle of morality while re-contextualizing and downright altering Marinette's actions to make her the devil. It pissed me off at first but now it just makes me roll my eyes (Adrien Bashing is the same way).
A good Marinette Bashing fic either needs to be realistic or balls off the walls. I prefer the latter.
For example, while it's not exactly a Marinette Bashing Fic, Miraculous Headache/Migraine by I_Write_Big. Marinette is an asshole in this because everyone's an asshole in this, so she's not the only one whose character is completely exxadgerated.
And there was also this one AU idea I saw (I think it was from artzychic) where Marinette has everyone in a Westview Scarlet Witch type deal where the world literally starts to revolve around her whenever she's around. That's the type of Marinette Bashing I like honestly, just complete outlandish shit to explain canon weirdness.
I actually had an AU idea where Marinette is a descendent of Calypso, and has traces of magic in her that makes everyone like her and try to help her. The most interesting part of this AU? She doesn't know that. She just thinks everyone's super supportive of her, she has no idea what her magic is doing. And when she finds out, it's CRUSHING.
