Set somewhere in a Stargate Atlantis Season 4 alternate universe, Daniel ends up on Atlantis under Sam's leadership. We get some pretty typical Daniel stuff, but there are also some surprises. We get to see a depth of Sam's character not previously seen. Jack's influence on them both becomes more and more obvious as time goes on. With the help of Pegasus flora and, maybe even a nudge from Atlantis herself, Sam and Daniel find that maybe being more than friends isn't a terrible thing at all.

alright hot take time

I don't like season 9 of sg1 and I feel like the ori aren't plot necessary

I understand why o'neill disappeared to DC, rda quit to be a dad and I absolutely respect that and love that for him. cam Mitchell is a little obnoxious, but I can live with him and he has a complex backstory. and Sam x jack is VERY heavily implied and I love that for them.

I just really don't like the Ori. it doesn't feel like the natural progression of the series, and it seems like they just wanted to replace the goa'uld instead of exploring how the galaxy is dealing with their [goa'uld] defeat. all-powerful, worship-fuelled zealot Ancients? ehhhh not feeling it. I'm still watching the last two seasons, but between this and the oddly excessive amounts of recap episodes I'm standing firm with my "atlantis is my favourite" stance.

I almost wish I could un-watch the handful of season 9 episodes, and you can tell that they wanted to and really should've ended at s7 or 8 (I do like the defeat of anubis, and the character development of the sg1 team in s8, so we could keep that one). the one thing I did like was the Vala arc, she was ✨️fun✨️ and her interactions with Daniel were hilarious. she couldn't be trusted to tell you earth only has one moon, but she was fun about it. but the addition of the ori and this new name for the Ancients/Lanteans/"Altreans", it's just confusing.

if anyone disagrees, please reblog/reply I'd gladly hear your take on this. my mum, who I watch stargate with, think that it's the "natural opposite to the Ancients", that theyre "too perfect and science-driven", and there had to be this religious side to them because that's how it is for humans. I disagree. I think that the Ancients are far from perfect, that half of the stuff that sgc crews go through are because of the Ancients' mess-ups, and Oma and that one lady in atlantis that john was with who think that they should be allowed to help humans are enough opposition.

I didn’t wanna get invested but now I can’t stop thinking about how Cam x Vala is like the inverse John x Aeryn:

Aeryn Sun and Cam Mitchell: Career soldiers who live to be pilots and go on missions. Service, advancement, being part of a team, seeing the universe. This is what matters to them. Cam is less serious than Aeryn but he’s wound pretty tight, i.e. that episode where everyone is supposed to go to the cabin for a weekend but only Landry and Mitchell make it and Mitchell is lowkey writhing the whole time because he’s stuck at a cabin while they’re getting updates about the mission that’s holding up the rest of the team. When the murder bears show up he’s literally relieved because playing chess and drinking beer with Landry was absolute torture and he wants to have a problem to solve with his team. This is a total Aeryn Sun thing. They would get along.

John Crichton and Vala Mal Doran: Goofballs. Silly but clever, good at coming up with Plans(tm) that everyone else roundly mocks, even though they are actually pretty good at what they do. The outsiders on the team, the “aliens” who don’t always understand the weird culture they find themselves a part of. They both routinely uses humor as a coping mechanism. Just want to be loved. They have a lot of energy and optimism. Each, in different ways, are like the cute golden retriever puppies that others scoff at but you’d have to be heartless not to grow fond of them eventually. They watch a lot of TV and make a lot of references, though for Vala it’s her way of learning Earth culture and John grew up with it.

Cue Cam and Aeryn falling in love with Vala and John over the course of respective adventures even though at first all they do is stare at them in disbelief and bemused wonder.

I am now convinced that Cam can’t act on it in SG-1 canon only because he sees that Vala is misguidedly obsessed with Daniel and he has no intention of getting in the middle of that, plus he’s been given command of SG-1 so having a relationship with a team member would go against protocol and he’s nothing if not a good officer. It has nothing to do with the Stargate writers and their Daniel x Vala agenda, oh no....

The Music I Think Stargate Folks Like and How They Listen To It

Daniel: likes local dreamy indie and gentle acoustic tunes. This boy finds indie covers of popular songs just so it fits his vibe. Also a fan of 80s new wave but no one can know. Prefers to buy music on bandcamp to support artists but does have a record collection.

Jack: likes boomer rock. The Eagles, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, anything you can find on a Road Trip compilation CD at a gas station. Will talk endlessly about Woodstock but wasn’t a huge fan of Acid Rock and still thinks Janis Joplin isn’t much to write home about (he is wrong). Prefers to use CDs and has like one of those CD books in his car that step dads always have. Most of his CDs are pirated off limewire and burned onto discs.

Teal’c: absolutely listens to Hyperpop and outlaw country. This man goes from Money Machine by 100 Gecs to Big Iron by Marty Robbins. He is forbidden from the aux in most circles. He prefers to listen on Spotify.

Sam: likes 90s grunge and weird 90s CANCON. Sam will hear Ironic by Alanis Morissette and know every word. Huge Mudhoney fan and prefers them over Nirvana. She also had a Brian Eno phase in college and loved that space music. She prefers streaming services so she can have her library on every device she works on.

Jonas: listens to all radio friendly sludge he can get his hands on. Was a huge fan of the ukelele era of 2010-2014 in pop music. Listens to anything he hears on his fyp on TikTok. Uses YouTube to listen to music but not premium. He just listens to his music playlist, ads and all.

Vala: has one song saved and it’s WAP by Cardi B exclusively to annoy Daniel. Banned from the aux cord. Uses Spotify but the free version.

Cam: listens to pop punk and wants everyone to know it. Also a decently big fan of gen x dad music like AC/DC and Metallica. John Lennon Apologist likely. Uses tapes because he didn’t want to rebuy his library with the advent of the digital age but is warming up to Apple Music.

General Hammond: likes cowboy music babeyyyyy!!!! Will talk at length about the highwaymen. Was alive for Johnny Cash performing live at Folsom Prison and knows how cool it was. Knows all of Waylon Jennings’ hits by heart. Likes Woody Guthrie but is low key about it so no one calls him a communist. Has a vast library of records, cassettes and 8-tracks but mostly uses the 6 CDs he has loaded in his car radio.

favorite character :  casey  ( ++ alex & amanda in second ).worst character :  cassidy tbh but i’m also not really big on lake.otp :  casey x alex  …  to the shock of literally no one.notp :  cassidy x olivia.  i also have a popular mf pairing i don’t like but uh i don’t want to get hate for that lmao.greatest emotional moment :  we all know i’m a sucker for night, right ?  that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.  casey in the hospital with olivia.  rip.  but also hit me with any casey x olivia scene where they’re comforting one another.  besides that, i gotta go with ghost because alex talking about being in witsec, losing her mom & not getting to say  ‘ goodbye ’  utterly wrecks me.most excitable moment :  when alex just strides into the courtroom & casey smirks & everyone is like !!!!  power.  move.favorite series trope :  a.d.a.s on power trips trying to prove a point.  ( see :  casey taking on the military,  barba taking on a whole airline. )  ––– also just sassy a.d.a.s in general.  oh !!  and it will never not make me laugh that people just continue working while being questioned about a homicide, like that’s a mundane, every day thing.  can’t stop unloading boxes to talk about MURDER.  especially after that john mulaney bit.series pet peeve :  when they just ??? end an episode ??? with absolutely no resolution, like it’s just a cut to the credits & you’re like  “ bro, that’s not how endings work. ”opinion on the writing :  i usually like it, but sometimes the fandom does it better.  like this bs about no lgbt characters besides huang ???  miss me with that.overall review of series :  i love s.v.u.  there’s a reason it’s gone on for 19 seasons.  unlike other shows i’ve gotten into, it hasn’t gotten stale.  i still love watching it after all this time, so despite some of its flaws, it’s still a really great show.

STARGATE: SG-1

favorite character :  vala !!  love of my life.worst character :  marrick annoyed the crap out of me.otp :  i didn’t ship a ton on sg-1 tbh, but probably cam x vala.  although i would be lying if i said that had nothing to do with my love of farscape or ben & claudia’s chemistry.notp :  i don’t really have one.greatest emotional moment :  those little snippets where we actually got to see vala feel something about adria & what the ori did to her.most excitable moment :  idk how to choose.  i love every time they dial the gate to leave earth, or the whole of prometheus unbound.favorite series trope :  is this a trope ?  idk.  but time dilation fields, son.series pet peeve :  introducing a really dramatic, life-changing story, then using it as a plot device & barely dealing with the consequences.  ( see :  everything that ever happened to vala.  but others, too. )opinion on the writing :  despite my complaining, i generally like the writing as a whole.  they could do a lot better with character development, though.overall review of series :  if you don’t think too hard, it’s just a really great feel-good show to enjoy.  i’ll always have a place in my heart for it.

rewatching farscape for the bazillionth time while reading cam x vala fic at the same time might not have been the best of ideas now i’m twice as messed up as usual
