Well they caught him. If he wasn't the exact kind of person tumblr loves, the conspiracy theories about this being a random person being framed would have continued to spread. But he's an attractive 26 year old white man who was caught carrying a manifesto about corporate America and has an internet history that matches up with tumblr's general politics. So everyone is going to get excited about how he's a martyr and go back to acknowledging reality in that there isn't a conspiracy to frame the wrong guy.

The discussions over whether or not this man should be lionized as a hero are honestly not as relevant as the comfort with which people are going to drop the conspiracy theory they would have been fully committed to if this man's politics turned out to be nuts. The ease with which the userbase of this website switches between realities based on whether or not they confirm their biases is really alarming. I just hope people understand how weird it is to claim a random person is 100% going to be framed by the FBI on one day, and then drop that by the next day when it becomes clear that the person being "framed" is the exact kind of communist you had hoped.

I used the Wayback Machine to see what the Far Cry 5 official websites looked like from 2017 to 2020 and find out if that’s where the character information sheets posted on the Playasia Blog (here) were from. I’m talking about these:

So I can confirm the images above do NOT come from the official websites. Although they look like they were made by Ubisoft, it seems they weren’t.

But during my research, I did find official character descriptions! There are several versions depending on which page/article you are reading, which website (Far Cry or Far Cry 5) you are on, and which region (America or Europe, basically) you select. Some of the descriptions have even changed over time!

Since the old websites don’t exist anymore and most of that content was deleted (but not really, thanks to the Internet Archive), I’m going to post what I’ve gathered here :)

imo the thing about ascended astarion is that he does love his LI, but he no longer shows it in any meaningful way. everything he does is out of fear and he thinks he's performing a show of love, but has his vulnerability locked behind so many layers of a role he's playing. He's using this role as a layer of separation to prevent him from feeling weak and vulnerable in the way love makes him feel while also manipulating the LI into complacency so they don't leave him before the tadpoles are dealt with.

he can feel that flicker of what once was, but it's accompanied by feeling small and weak. the ways he doles out affection affirms that he is none of those things. so, no. not showing love, but showing how he's the one in control. like he tells araj, he needs people to know who owns who, now.

it comes back to "I can be yours, and you can be all mine. If only for the night," but instead of the the equal partnership that springs from the Graveyard Scene where they vow to be each other's for as long as the other will love them, accepting the uncertainty of that future because of the abundance of joy living a life worth living can bring when lived together, Astarion has to establish ownership over his LI.

He owns them, body, heart, and soul, but the only piece of him his LI has is the piece that no longer exists. the piece of him that was the sweet, vulnerable Spawn who was starting to see kindness in the world where it once was cold and unwelcoming.

Good day everyone we're ranting about Cinderella's stepsisters today because I have been angry about this for well over a decade and I simply have to yell about it

(This post will be mostly bringing up details from the Disney version but I am a fairytale nerd, I am aware of other versions and I demand justice for them as well)

Just to be on the same page, we all remember the 1950 Disney's Cinderella movie, yes? We also all remember this got two sequels, yes? Cinderella II, which contains vignettes from after the end of the first movie, and Cinderella III, in which stepmother and stepsisters travel back in time and enchant the prince to pick Anastasia instead. Same page? Okay.

My main issue here is this: Anastasia got a redemption arc. And I love it thoroughly. It subtly explores the way her mother's expectations have weighed on her and how she doesn't even really enjoy the cruelty her mother encouraged in her, and as soon as someone shows her genuine kindness she realises that she wants to be better and get away from her stepmother's abusive methods.

Drizella, however, does not. Drizella, in fact, never gets the chance. At the end of the third movie, after Anastasia bravely stands up against her mother to defend and help Cinderella, stepmother and Drizella are both magically transformed into toads, which they will have to live out the rest of their miserable lives as, in a true Grimm fashion fairytale punishment (even though the Disney story is modelled after Perrault's earlier and much less cruel version of the story, but I digress). Drizella, who never got that kind look from the prince or that heartfelt advice from the king, who never got a solid moment or two away from the constant control of their mother, who never got a chance to see a life outside of her mother's cruelty. She gets turned into a toad just as well as her mother, who was a full-grown, independent adult when she made her evil choices.

The simple fact is that I have deep sympathy for the stepsisters despite their cruel behaviour, because all things considered they were children, dependent on their mother's approval because they could see exactly what would happen if they didn't measure up (hello golden child/scapegoat dynamic). Their mother actively encouraged selfish and cruel behaviour in them all their lives because they were a tool to keep Cinderella in line and bump up stepmother's own status (often through that of her daughters, i.e. through marriage to a rich man like the crown prince), and even THEN if given just a moment outside of her mother's brainwashing and given a crumb of kindness, Anastasia was able to develop an identity of her own and do right by her stepsister. Watching that development in her go down throughout the entire third Cinderella movie only to then watch Drizella get the same punishment as their mother has never sat right with me. Anastasia got her shit together in TWO timelines and each time all it took was one or two conversations where someone treated her with kindness and respect. Drisella deserved the same.

And again the stepsisters' cruelty towards Cinderella was unforgivable but their mother literally ALWAYS looks disappointed in them except when they're bullying Cinderella and I cannot imagine they never noticed. They suck at everything their mother values and Anastasia is so well aware of that in the second movie she must have known it deep in her heart the whole time. The only thing that keeps them in their mother's graces is their cruelty and willingness to marry rich so their mother could keep up the lavish lifestyle after running Cinderella's family fortune into the ground buying gifts for the girls (do they ever feel responsible for their inability to afford maids? Are they given the resources for that awareness to begin with?). As long as they aren't married they are dependent on their mother for everything because they are completely isolated in that decrepit mansion that only owns a single old horse! And they are so young!! Without that shot at a rich marriage they have nothing, no money, no independence, no way to interact with the outside world without their mother's approval.

Tl;dr: justice for Drizella, if Anastasia could grow when given the chance it's not fair that Drizella never got that chance to begin with and still got punished

i'm a couple of doors into the mystery labyrinth, and it's getting a little annoying having shinigami and yuma go "but how could this have happened? who could have done this?" when i literally knew it was yakou as soon as the game told me that the poison had a delay. this is so silly like "how could anyone have got past this, they would have died in thirty minutes!" ok! narrow your suspect pool to people who die in the next thirty minutes then! damn!!!
