So I'm working on a drawing of my other, other, OTHER fictional crush, the Ace Icon, Alastor! I want to see the actual show SO badly, but I've been watching the clips on YT and... I'm in love. Not really, of course, but you know what I mean.
I plan on coloring this in with these oil based markers that I picked up at Five Below.
Anyways, Alastor of course belongs to Vivsipop, blah, blah blah.

I'm still so mad I like the Strathmore Five Hundred sketchbook so much. I'm never going to be satisfied with the cheaper options again, even tho they were perfectly adequate before

Uhhhh so this took absolutely forever but AYYY it's done (finally)
These are my finished costume designs for Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco, a play about a small French town where people start turning into rhinos. This took a lot of sweat, blood, and tears, but dang, it was totally worth every minute.
Watercolor, micron pens, alcohol markers, and ink on Canson XL mix media paper.

From top to bottom:
Yes! I primarily work in traditional watercolor. I often times use gouache or color pencils to help with certain textures. I scan my paintings into my computer and use Clip Studio Paint to clean them up and add the text before posting~
Thank you :D I know it's never the fun answer to hear but just lots of practice. And reference! I almost always have several photo references for a background and try to merge my favorite colors and shapes from the images into one illustration.
KSFDGIAYSGDI AUSDEEF!! (Thanks!)
It is very thick! But I like thick paper with lots of fun texture. For the comic pages I use Arches Cold Pressed 100% Cotton Watercolor Paper and for any other illustrations on this blog I use a Canson XL Mixed Media Pad (less texture) or my Bee Creative Watercolor Pad (more texture).

Heyo, what brand of sketchbook do you use? c:
I use quite a few sketchbooks all at the same time actually!! I currently have around 6 on the go all for different things... ^~^;;
I'll cut this but below is just a little breakdown of all the sketchbooks I'm currently using!
My current main sketchbooks are the Talens Art Creation sketchbooks!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I use these for general sketching and doodling, especially the 13 x 21 one! They handle mixed media okay so I can basically throw almost anything at these sketchbooks so I'm really happy with them! (the only thing they didn't like were posca pens but I'm cool with that since I also don't really like posca pens!!)
But I recently picked up a Seawhite of Brighton travel journal from a local art store which I specifically use for learning to draw the kh cast!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The paper doesn't handle mixed media as well as the Talens sketchbook but I did get this sketchbook mainly for pencil work... It is thick enough to handle light watercolour washes but I don't dare use my gouche in here. ^^;
Then there's my Canson mixed media XL(which I've had since 2018.... jfc)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
tbf I added more pages to this one after a friend gifted me their unfinished canson xl so they’ve had an extended life!! Out of all my sketchbooks that I doodle in this one is probably my most durable, the paper quality is great and it handles pretty much every medium I own!
I mainly use this one for thumbnailing some of my final pieces though... And little gouche studies/palette tests.
Then we have the Travelogue watercolour book!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is another one I've had for a long time now(since 2017 wow!!!) but that's mainly because I only ever do finished watercolour pieces in here! This isn't my favourite cold press watercolour paper but it's a close second! It can handle a lot of water before the paper starts to warp so I am free to fix my many mixtakes!!
And finally there's the Canson waterford artbook! I've only had this one for about a year now but I love the paper!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still not my favourite watercolour paper but I especially love this paper for gouache so I do a lot of finished gouache pieces in here!
I hope this helps you find the sketchbook you're looking for buddy!! And don't feel pressured to have multiple sketchbooks on the go like me! I used to only work on one sketchbook at a time but I found myself being extremely critical and precious about my sketchbook to the point that I wouldn't draw in it unless I was making a finished piece >.<!
Having multiple sketchbooks helps me separate my work and get me out of that headspace! Afterall sketchbooks are just what you make them!! <3

What paper / sketchbook / art supplies do you use??? 😳
Thanks for the ask!!!
I use a Canson XL 160gsm mixed media for finished projects, a Strathmore 400 series sketch for messin around and thumbnails, and maybe Strathmore watercolor paper if the papers gonna go through hell.
The art supplies I use frequently are Himi gouache, school smart oil pastels, and Faber Castell's Pitt Graphite Matt pencils.
Trusty old Ticonderoga #2 for sketching!

Behold! My swag filled guide of my art materials! I'll even call this a masterlist for now!
Markers
I use Ohuhu, dual-tip, alcohol markers!
Here's a link to the set I have on their site: Ohuhu Markers I Use
This set is pretty big, but they have plenty of smaller sets to try out as well. I really recommend them! I have used copic markers before and a couple other brands, but these are my favorite. And they're more affordable than most of the copic sets I've seen. I recommend the brush and chisel tip sets, but they have fine tip and brush too.
Pens
The pens I use are made by Sakura, mostly their Pigma Microns, but I get a lot of use out of a Pigma Graphic pen that has a bigger tip.
Here's a link to their site's pen category: Pens I Use You can't buy directly from your site, but they have a section where you can see the online stores that sell their products and the retail stores that carry them as well.
I also use the white Gelly Roll pen they make for touching up my drawings. You can put it right on top of already laid down pen ink or marker ink and it'll show as opaque white. Sometimes you have to do a couple passes of it to get it super white, and it works best if the ink you have down already is fully dried. But it is handy. And you can run an alcohol marker over it when it is dry to color it, but that has been hit or miss for me. So I'm figuring that technique out still XD
Paper
The paper I use is just Canson's XL Mixed Media sketchbook right now! I buy various sizes. The one I have now is on the smaller side, but the bigger ones are great too!
Here's a link to the Mixed Media section on their site. Same sort of purchasing deal as Sakura. They provide irl and online places to buy: Paper I Use
The markers definitely bleed through, but they don't destroy this paper. And it's good for pencil if I ever want to use it. I do not use pencil much because of sensory issues, but I like having the option. Just put something between the pages like a piece of card stock or a plastic sheet, and the other page won't get any marker on it.
Digital Art Tablet
The art tablet I use is their Kamvas Pro 13! It's got a screen display and some buttons you can assign keys to. It's on the pricier end of the tablets they sell, but I am getting a ton of use out of it. Bought it a few years ago. And they have plenty of non screen tablets to check out if you wanna try an art tablet. Their tablets still use USB ports to my knowledge, and the screen one I use also need an HDMI port. So keep in mind you might need an adapter with those.
Here's a link to Huion's online store generally: Tablet I Use
-
I have a few assorted things laying around I use on occasion, but this is the main stuff. Thank you so much for the kind words! And I hope you enjoy this list of tools and get some use out of it.

Here's Teddy! He's not a figure skater, he just does it for a hobby. Kinda went into the danger zone with arteza markers being on XL Canson mixed media paper. What I mean by that is the markers put this yellow stain that can bleed on both sides of another paper and the paper that I used the markers on especially these colors. Of course, this is not Arteza or Canson's fault, they just don't work together, but I will have to put paper on both sides so that the markers don't stain the other papers. #christianartist #ocs #iceskatingart #deafoc #figureskatingoutfit #originalcharacter #originaloutfit #artezamarkers #superiormarker #touchmarkers #copicmarkers https://www.instagram.com/p/CnI6JdkM4fI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I didn't want to clown on the gift donation for kids post and this might be a little late anyway, but if you're going to donate art supplies, or even give some to kids in your family, please think twice before getting those art kits that come with everything, even the ones that do come in fancy wooden boxes. They're almost always terrible in quality and even as a little kid you end up feeling frustrated by them and feel like you're the one doing something wrong or you don't have talent or something.
I get it, they're usually cheaper than buying even student grade supplies individually, but I remember getting one of the fancy wooden box ones at like thirteen then after a while getting (secretly, as to not upset the person who got me it that Christmas) because I felt I wasn't good enough at art to warrant such a gift because I couldn't get the pencils or watercolors or oil pastels to behave like how the books and videos told me they would behave. And even getting the plastic box ones as an even younger kid left me feeling frustrated. Because the kit ones are all full of cheap filler and less pigment as a cost cutting measure. And the paper that came with it was no better than printer paper so the watercolors disintegrated it.
Anyway I'm not saying you have to buy a one hundred dollar professional set of paint or something. And even student grade does add up. But a decent sketchbook (I recommend Canson XL Mixed Media, because not only is it cheap but the paper is great and there's like sixty sheets it), and maybe just one type of art supply instead of buying a whole studio's worth. Decent sets of artist pencils of different lead types are easy to come by. Or even just a few tubes of primary colors acrylic paints (I've been using Arteza acrylics and I like them a lot), or a box of decent oil pastels or a small watercolor pallet. And you can find decent brushes, even in packet sets, just make sure they're the right kind for the paints you're getting (and there are mixed media brushes too) Avoid at all costs the Crayola brushes with the thick plasticity bristles that are the bane of children everywhere tho.
TL;DR honestly, if you have the chance to know what the child likes in art supplies, just get them a decent set of that instead of one of the frustrating art kits that give you everything but for a lesser quality
(ALSO: make sure art supplies geared to younger kids are nontoxic, and if giving to an older kid who knows not to drink the paint water, make sure they know if there's anything toxic even still. This isn't too much of a worry these days unless you're getting really expensive pro stuff, but look out for warnings anyway)

First time using water soluble graphite (Derwent). I liked it using it, but I also don’t like it? I’m not sure, I bought the pencil because it was broken in half and discounted. But this did make me realize how much I love doing black and white art work!

Hi, I really love your art and I was curious what your favorite sort of sketchbooks are for colored pencil work? I also use colored pencils and I've been using Strathmore Mixed Media sketchbooks for awhile but was thinking about switching it up.
I like the Canson XL mix media sketchbook, I've been using it for a while now after trying out different kinds and i find it works p well for the stuff I do (both watercolor back when I did mostly that and colored pencil like what I mostly do now) the paper is thick enough w enough tooth to be good for colored pencil but not too much tooth where it grinds the pencil down quickly (or thick enough for it to be more expensive lol)
