Terror Camp is hiring!
We are looking to expand our volunteer staff for this year’s conference.
We have two job listings based on our current needs, but if we receive a lot of great applicants there is the possibility we’ll split up these responsibilities into 3 or even 4 separate positions.
Terror Camp is a fully volunteer, remote, asynchronous workplace (with occasional sync meetings as schedules permit). We communicate over Discord and organize our documentation over Notion and Google Drive.
We are looking for people who can devote up to a few hours a week, depending on the time of year. Commitment increases around the times of Submission Opening (June 1), Submission Closing/Acceptances (September 1-Oct 1) and the conference itself (early December).
Terror Camp looks great on your resume. You can say that you volunteer for a successful community-led online history & heritage conference with an audience in the thousands!
You don’t need to match the job descriptions perfectly in order to apply. If your experience doesn’t match up but you think you’d still be good at the job, please apply anyway!
Here are the positions we're looking to fill:
🎨 Designer 🎨
Terror Camp is seeking a dedicated Designer who will:
Ideate and deliver a new evergreen brand identity for TC that can be revamped and reused each year
Including logo, logotype, color scheme, font families, and other brand assets for use on web, social media, and printed merch
Be an proactive team member with strong communication skills, able to quickly and regularly deliver new graphics for promotional use on social media and in email marketing
Help design an evergreen/permanent collection of merchandise as well as a limited-edition collection for this year’s conference
Assist our Webmaster in revising our website & email marketing templates to fully match new brand identity and meet best practices for UX
Potentially work on print layout for a Terror Camp book or zine (TBD)
This job would be a good fit if you:
Work or have worked professionally or semi-professionally as a graphic designer; or are a hobbyist designer with a standout portfolio
Have experience working with both digital and print assets
Have a working knowledge of web design best practices and HTML/CSS
Have experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva (but not ONLY Canva, sorry) and Wix or similar WYSIWYG ESP/site builder
The Designer will report to our Assistant Director/Webmaster, & will also collaborate closely with our Marketing Lead on graphic assets for social media and with our Merch Lead on preparing designs for print.
To apply, please fill out this form.
💬 Communications Coordinator 💬
Terror Camp is seeking an enthusiastic Communications Coordinator who will:
Own Terror Camp’s main email inbox and oversee all direct communication with attendees and interested parties
Respond promptly to inquiries including:
Requests for past recordings
Requests to join the Discord
Questions about schedule, programming, submissions, guests, and other conference topics
Catch inbounds to social media inboxes (Tumblr, X, Bluesky, Insta) & answer or redirect to email as appropriate
Act as coordinator/assistant for Marketing Lead, with responsibilities including:
Scheduling pre-written content
Assisting with ideating and drafting content, proposing content ideas
Cross-posting content to multiple platforms
Consistently and frequently engaging with social audiences (finding content to repost, replying to people, etc)
This job would be a good fit if you:
Work or have worked in any digital customer-facing environment; have experience with support tickets and/or ongoing user communications; have run social media for brands or institutions; are an efficient and clear writer able to work creatively within brand voice guidelines
Have successfully and sustainably moderated Discord servers, Tumblr communities, social media for other fandom projects like fests, zines, and charity events
Can spare the time and attention to respond to inquiries and turn around new social media posts in a timely manner
Are prepared to represent the Terror Camp brand professionally and maturely in digital public spaces
The Communications Coordinator will report directly to our Marketing Lead.
To apply, please fill out this form.
If you have any questions about these positions, please email us at command [at] terror [dot] camp!

You loved it last year, and so did we… Sentitwin Week is back for its 2025 edition! From July 1st to July 7th, join us in celebrating the best cousins/twins to ever grace our screens. And kicking some evil adults in the face. Possibly. 💚💜🧡
Useful information and full list of prompts under the cut!
What counts as a submission?
Anything and everything! Fics, art, web weaves, AMVs, cosplays, music, unsettling minimalistic plays about your family’s twisted history, all formats are your friends. You are also free to explore the themes and ratings of your choosing — just make sure to tag your content appropriately, so the event remains safe and fun for everyone!
Tell us about the prompts!
To spark your creativity, we have selected three words and one quote for each day. Feel free to incorporate as many of these into your pieces as you want, to combine and rearrange them, or even to discard them entirely!
DAY 1: “I’m really sorry I didn’t go to your dad’s funeral.” // birth · death · snap
DAY 2: “Is this really what you want?” // roots · ties · fracture
DAY 3: “These two are so fond of each other.” // love · resentment · separation
DAY 4: “Can I trust you?” // rings · brooch · choker
DAY 5: “I don’t see how there could be a better version of you.” // dream · nightmare · memory
DAY 6: “We have everything we need to be happy!” // chains · freedom · choice
DAY 7: “The Miraculous child did not understand.” // myth · fairy tale · story teller
BONUS: “You mustn’t have many friends, acting the way you do!” // strikeback · red moon · once upon a time
… or, if you haven’t had a chance to participate last year — why not try some of our 2024 prompts?
I’m not sure I can cover all prompts, or that I can post in time. Can I still participate?
Of course! Post whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want. After all, we don’t have your amok.
Sounds great! Where do I start?
Just upload your work and make sure to use the right tags so we can easily find it!
For Tumblr: #sentitwin week and #sentitwin week 2025
For AO3: Sentitwin Week (Miraculous Ladybug) and Sentitwin Week 2025 (Miraculous Ladybug)
You are, of course, free to post your contributions on other platforms — we may not see them there, so shoot me a message if you’d like me to share the link.
Acknowledgements:
A huge thank you to:
@bittersweetresilience, who masterfully organised the event last year!
@bittersweetresilience, again, for sharing its Canva template with me and saving me a lot of trouble 🥹
My lovely friends, for their prompt suggestions: @trishacollins, @faiirygrahamdevanily, @neoncherryblossom and @bittersweetresilience (once more)
The entire Anarchist Gang server, especially @hartwign, for their unfaltering kindness and support! 💜🦚

I couldn't fit the tutorial on a reply lmao, here's a full post explaining my process :]]
STAMP TUTORIAL (TF2 edition, but works for everything)
99% of the process is done on the website ezgif. Ezgif carries the stamp-making process lmao
1. Get your GIF
Tenor: Ok place to grab your GIFs. Average quality of the GIFs is good enough, and looks ok when resized to the size of the stamp. You'll find like 1 normal GIF every 4 buff characters GIF tho.
GIPHY: Average quality of the GIF is better (I don't think the web compresses the GIFs that are uploaded)… If you find what you're looking for. You'll have to SCROLL before finding what you're looking for because there are always non-related GIFs on the top of your searches or the same GIF multiple times, it's crazy.
makeagif: You will find cool GIFs, but the quality is pretty low (I think the web itself compresses the GIFs a lot). It looks bad even when resized down. And it has a watermark, which I recommend cropping because it's not even visible when resized, it just looks like a gray blob on the corner.
Google: Best option by far, quality is pretty good and the ratio of “things I was looking for/things I actually find” is SLIGHTLY in favor of “things I was looking for” (and most of “things I actually find” are just the characters rotating, not NSFW, so that's only a nice change from Tenor). You won't have to scroll much to see different and interesting GIFs. JUST REMEMBER TO FILTER BY GIFS.
Tumblr media
You search whatever > Images > Tools > Type > GIF
Make it on your own: Aka, you download your video, go to ezgif's “Video to GIF” (then you can crop it, CUT IT. THIS IS IMPORTANT, YOU DON'T NEED TO GO ANYWHERE ELSE TO CUT YOUR CLIP, YOU CAN DO IT ON EZGIF ITSELF). Ok, I lied, it wasn't Google, this is the best oftion by far. You get exactly what you want, the best quality if you don't compress it much until after the GIF has been resized into the size of a stamp… It's just super time-consuming, and you'll have to spend like an entire hour just watching a video to find the clips.
OK, I HAVE MY GIF NOW
Tumblr media
Hehe, his legs go pipupipu
2. Resize
Go to ezgif, this is where the fun begins (if you weren't on ezgif already). You download your GIF, or copy the link and insert it, or you'll have it there if you made it yourself.
A STAMP MAKES 99px × 56px
THE INNER PART OF THE STAMP MAKES 91px × 47px
I RECOMMEND MAKING YOUR GIF 92px × 48px
BTW, THESE MEASURES ARE FOR THE TEMPLATE I'LL GIVE YOU LATER. If you use another template, just go to an image editor and see what the inner size of the stamp is.
So, you set your GIF's width to 92px.
Tumblr media
Then crop it, so your height is 48px.
Tumblr media
Or you can resize it so it's directly 92px × 48px, but the crop will be in the center, and SOMETIMES YOU DON'T WANT THAT.
For example:
Tumblr media
It's a vertical GIF whose area of interest is not in the center, so if we resize it directly-
Tumblr media
oops-
ANYWAY
Once you have your GIF resized:
IMPORTANT: BEFORE THE NEXT STEP, REMEMBER TO CONVERT TO GIF IF THE FILE YOU'RE WORKING ON ISN'T A GIF ALREADY
Sometimes you'll be working with a webp without even noticing (EW, I hate webp) and transparencies don't work particularly well with that extension.
3. Overlay
Tumblr media
Click on this icon.
Ok, now that that's fixed:
Tumblr media
Extend the size of the canvas.
Tumblr media
Select your template and Upload image!
Tumblr media
This is the template, btw.
Tumblr media
Then move the overlay around until it contains the GIF nicely, or just set Left to 43, Top to 20 and Generate image! (I have these numbers memorized, it saves you like 20 seconds lmao)
Also, again, these numbers work on MY template, if you use another one, you'll have to figure it out yourself.
4. Crop
Tumblr media
THIS OPTION IS A TIME-SAVER FR
5. Optimize (optional, highly recommend)
Tumblr media
I always set my optimization method to Lossy GIF and level 10 because I find that there is no quality loss, and the file size might drop by 30%-70% (actually crazy). These percentages don't change much in higher compressions, even though you'll start seeing a drop in quality around level 35 of compression (the default).
6. Save
Tumblr media
YIPPE!!! Your stamp is done :D
You can save it and look at it and place it on your profile or website.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here it is btw, in case someone wanted it :]] The Sniper GIF but correctly cropped and made into a stamp as well.
Now do that another… eleven times, and you'll have a stamp pack to make into a Tumblr post... Oof TT
There's no website that lets you make stamps faster lmao (I wish)
@sir-broken-bones (I'm @ them so they actually see it, I made this tutorial for them after all lol)

After moving to Seattle for school, you got a job at a local music shop, small, local place, nothing special really but the pay was good and the work, not too hard. One day, you were flipping through records, looking for one to play that would be heard all around the music store you were working at. It was a slow shift, like most you had on Monday afternoons. No one was looking for a good record or new Fender on the first day of the week. After you select “The Bends” album by Radiohead, despite the depressing everything of Radiohead, the songs are great. You go back to the front desk and register, pull out the work computer and do some record inventory and update the Valiant Music Shop website. You let yourself zone out and be consumed by your work. You didn't even notice the auburn-haired girl awkwardly walk in. She awkwardly paced around the shop, looking at the vinyls, CDs, some instruments, honestly you weren’t paying attention to her much but the amount of time she kept walking around the same aisles suspiciously long. Finally she walks up to you at the register, awkwardly fiddling with the fingers on her left hand,
“He-Hey– uhm, I have no clue where you guys moved your guitar strings to, and I need some before my gig tomorrow night…” Her cheeks and ears were pink, it was adorable honestly.
“Oh, yeah they’re right here, follow me…” You got out from behind the counter with the flip-top counter door and showed her to the new tiny nook all the guitar strings had been pushed into. You glance back at her face, now redder than before, embarrassed expression on her face. “Yeah we moved them over here to make room for more bass stuff as well, had to push these back..” You say, rocking from the balls of your feet to your heels, unsure if she’s good now and you can go back to doing your job and scrolling to music on your phone.
“Oh- uhm–,” The girl laughs nervously, in this lighting, in front of the store windows, the sun makes her viridescent eyes look like the most beautiful thing you’ve seen. “I walked past this section like– a billion times.. I feel so stupid now..” She chuckles again, scratching at the nape of her neck.
“So… I’m gonna go back to the counter now..” You awkwardly mumble, doing two thumbs behind your back to where you’re gonna be, before slowly turning around and speed walking back to the register counter. On your way though, you notice that the record is finished and replace it with the “AM” Arctic Monkeys album for a good vibe, something to sway your hips to as you do boring web and paper updating. The girl comes up to your register, guitar strings in hand and gently slides them towards you. “Just these?” You ask with your customer service voice to which she nods. As you’re ringing it up, she takes a paper out of her back pocket and unfolds it before combing her hair back shyly.
“You guys hang up gig flyers right..? On some pin board..?” She actually looks up at you when she speaks which you didn’t expect.
“Oh! Yeah we do! On the pinboard in the back, hand it over, I’ll put it up for you.” She hands it over and you straighten it out as she takes the pack of strings and receipt from you. You look at the poster, it looks.. Super well done. Nothing like the usual Canva template you see, this one had little drawings of the band members looking all cool. “Damn, this shit looks amazing. Who'd you commission for this?” You look back up at her, grabbing a push pin for the “Board of Bands” as you called it.
“I-I drew it actually..” She laughs awkwardly again, you notice it must be a nervous habit by now, that and her fiddling with her hair and fingers. It’s kind of endearing honestly.
“Oh shit man! That’s awesome man, nice job.” She smiles and it’s so sweet it's like she passes it to you too.
“Yeah.. worked for like 30 hours on it, took that and like 3 redbulls.” You both chuckle and you watch as her ears light up red again. You look at the flyer again to maybe catch her name, right in the middle of the poster is a drawing of the girl holding a guitar, her name right underneath. “Ellie.”
“So… Ellie, what kind of music does your band play?” You ask, looking at the flyer again to see if you could make it to their show. You recognize the gig to be at a local dive bar which often lets new bands host.
“Well..” , She glances down at your name tag, “Y/n.. It’s like.. Rocky, alternative, punk almost?” She hesitantly claims with a smile, her hands are planted in the back pockets of her baggy jeans.
“So more SOAD, Green Day, or Sex Pistols?” You lean in on the counter top, rhythmically tapping the wood with your fingers.
“Uhhh– I dunno.. Kinda SOAD but sometimes MSI and occasionally The Front Bottoms if you know them?” Ellie half smiles and you notice her dimple as her lip quirks up.
“I might check it out, tag a friend along..” You go put up the flyer in the middle of the pin board and when you turn around, she stares back at you wide eyed.
“You’d really go see my band..? We’re really nothing special honestly..” Her face has this look of disbelief on her face.
“Yeah, why not? I know the owner of the place.” You mention off handedly.
“You do?” Ellie asks with wide eyes. You nod in response.
“I’ll see you there, Ellie.” You whisper with a warm smile after a comforting smile crosses your lips.
I’l- I’ll see you.” She stammers before nodding, turning on her heels, and speed walking out of the shop. As she walks, you notice she has spiderwebs painted on her back pockets, which make you smile to yourself for reasons you cannot explain.
That’s now you ended up on a Friday night, convincing your friend to go with you. “Erin, c’mon just keep me company. We like this bar!” You reason with her. You’re sitting at your desk with a mirror you bought at the local Daiso store, doing your makeup; while your friend, Erin, is still laying on your bed behind you, hoodie on, scrolling on her phone.
“Yeah, but I was kind of feeling like staying in tonight. And why is it so important for you that we see this band?” She asks, rolling over onto her stomach.
“I told you, this cute girl at my work told me her band was performing and I told her I’d be there.” You replied, as you were contouring your face.
“Ahhh, so this is because you want to be her little rockstar girlfriend.. Or is it more of a one night stand sort of thing?” Erin sat up, thinking about entertaining your idea with a cheeky grin on her face.
“It is not a one night stand thing!.. She’s cute, charming.. I just wanna like– squish her cheeks and kiss her forehead.” You look back at her face and scoff.
“You knew this girl for like, what, 10 minutes?” Erin replies in a sarcastic tone.
“Love at first sight or whatever! Plus, there’s a guy in the band. Go see if he’s hot or something. Erin, c’mon, come to this show with me or I will drag you there. Go raid my closet for an outfit.” You ordered, snapping your fingers at her. Finally, she limply slides down the bed with a loud, dramatic groan, and goes into your closet to pick out an outfit as you do your eyeliner. Erin emerges in an oversized tee shirt with the neckline cut to be off the shoulder, bra strap showing, with a fishnet shirt underneath for some flair, paired with bootcut jeans and doc martens. You on the other hand opt for short jean shorts with ripped tights, a cropped black tank top, a red flannel over it, and some chucks to tie the whole ensemble together; frankly giving Rachel Amber energy.
You two walk in and they’re just beginning, “Uhh– Hey guys.. We’re The Fireflies. My name is Ellie, I’m the lead guitarist and vocalist; my friend, Dina, is on drums, and my– other friend, Jesse, is on drums, and we have Cat on rhythm guitar.. We have a set of , like, half of our new album and then some covers. Hope you guys like it..” Ellie explains into the microphone. Frankly, you feel a little bad, the poor girl looks so awkward you wonder if she’s singing or someone else will be. The music slowly starts with Ellie’s skilled fingers moving across the fretboard and the other instruments joining in. You and Erin find yourselves nodding your heads along whilst sitting at the bar, you’re drinking a simple rum and coke, while she sips on a simple hard lemonade. Then, to your surprise, Ellie’s raspy voice starts to fill the bar. “When I was just a girl, we’ll call it fifteen or so,” Her voice isn’t the traditional flow of pop, and it’s not timid and stuttering like her speaking voice, it feels raw, intentional, like the lyrics hold actual deep meaning to her. “She said, ‘All I can hope for is for me to get better. ‘Cause all I can take is no more.”
Ellie sings, the words even stirring emotion on her face and body language, the frustration of whatever inspired the lyrics. It amuses you, the switch from shy nerd to some rising star indie-rock performer. The whole set goes pretty well, you can tell the band actually does like doing what they do, giving their all for this performance for a crowd of maybe 25-30 people in this dive bar.
The set comes to an end after about 2 hours and it didn’t disappoint at all. After Ellie thanks the crowd she takes her guitar off amidst cheers and hollers, she uses the bottom of her tee shirt to wipe sweat off her forehead, unintentionally showing off her lean abdomen. Thanks to the multiple drinks you had throughout her set, your inhibitions were lowered, explaining why you let out a wolf whistle when you saw her abdominal muscles. In the lighting, it was hard to tell but Ellie’s cheeks and ears flush red. She’d noticed you were here a while ago, watching her band perform, with your friend who had left earlier. Jesse and Dina are packing up their instruments and are planning to go back to their apartment, not wishing to linger long, but Ellie wanted to talk to you and Cat wouldn’t mind a drink. Ellie sat right next to you admiring your cute tipsy expression. “Hey, you actually came.” She smiles, taking a sip of a cold soda.
“I did yeah, you guys are great. Happy to say I knew you before you got big.” You weren’t drunk but your words were starting to melt together a bit.
Her hoarse voice dips into a tone of concern as she tries to locate Erin who seemingly abandoned you. “Well, I think it might be a while before that happens. Hey, didn’t you come here with a friend?”
“Oh yeah, she wasn’t having fun so she went back to our apartment but I told her I wouldn’t get too drunk..” You explain as you fiddle with your necklace, noticing that you didn’t quite follow through on the last part.
“Really now?” Ellie teases with a soft laugh, “You live in walking distance?” Her smile shifts to something more considerate and soft.
“Yeah only ‘bout like 10 blocks or somethin’ ‘round that.” You smile, swirling around the remaining ice in your glass.
“You want a ride home, Y/n?” She asks with a caring tone.
“I’d like that.”

Hey Derin,
I am thinking about making a website for my writing. There are a lot of options, so I'm kinda overwhelmed.
So I'm asking other authors I know, on and offline, about their websites. Mostly I'm wondering how much code I need to learn and what my upfront and upkeep costs might be.
How did you go about setting up your website? Did you learn code? Do you pay a monthly fee?
Any pointers are greatly appreciated!
My website is through Wordpress.com, although I would've gone with somebody else if the Matt Mullenweg stuff had all preceded me getting a website. You can also use Wix, Canva, Weebly, or whatever other website builder you like.
If you want to build a proper website, you need to code; however, for basically any of these 'free website builder' tools, you don't. I had to do zero coding to build mine, not even any html. I just signed up for a free account and built it from a template, much like making a Tumblr page.
I'm pretty sure all of the options I listed above let you make a free website. There are also multiple smaller free website builders out there. I pay for mine now, so I can control the domain name and provide the stories without any ads (free websites are usually full of ads and I have online ads). But I didn't start paying until I was making enough on Patreon to do so. You absolutely can do it for free; I did for a long time. There are zero upfront costs and zero coding required to do things this way.
You can, of course, code a proper website and buy a domain for it if you have the skills and cash and want more flexibility and control in designing your website. For web serials, I've never found this necessary.

What's your comic writing process like? I'm starting to get into making my own comics and I really admire your work!!! Any advice?
Ah, intrepid traveler, you've done well to journey to this secluded mountaintop spire, in search of the answers you seek. I indeed can provide such forbidden comicmancy knowledge... at the cost of your mortal soul...
Tumblr media
coughs. anyway, I'm going to warn you immediately that what works for me does not work for everyone else, and in my experience the way I do things can prove very slow and discouraging for anyone who is more interested in the actual "drawing the damn comic" part of the process. I only do it this way because I enjoy weaving a narrative web that feels not only fully contained but re-readable, but my projects are often so long and my memory so shitty that I can't just keep all of it in my head! It would spill all over the place and make a really embarrassing mess of brain-juice. Not ideal.
but as for my own process, uhh... I suppose a comic would be fitting, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a little choppy but you get the idea.
as for turning words into art, I've been experimenting with figuring out the best way to do that for a little while now. Originally what I was doing for something like Ad Astra Per Aspera was to take my "script" and sketch it out on paper very loosely, before transposing that onto my canvas and working from there:
Tumblr media
...but, I've found that can make it kind of difficult to space everything around on your standard page-size, and the thing I'm having the most problems with currently seems to be finding the sweet spot of panel-size proportions. So, I've taken to printing out standard thumbnail templates (you can just find these on google) and sketching very tiny panels in those, which seems to give me a slightly better sense of scale... (mild chapter 5 spoilers, sorry ad astra fans)
Tumblr media
but I have yet to totally pull through on this, so who knows, maybe I'll try something else in the future!
As for advice, this is probably most applicable to me, but as a disabled artist I have a very hard time managing my workload without literally working myself into injury. I don't think I talked about this publicly but when I was working on that ten year anniversary comic I was literally drawing every single day for 3 solid months. Sometimes, in my case, I really can't bring myself to stop once I've latched onto an idea, and sometimes I find the most rewarding thing I can do with my time is to draw- but I seriously cannot overstate: Do not fucking do this.
You will fuck up your wrist, your back, your neck, your eyes, and probably your mental health. It's a well-known fact that mangaka have a lower life expectancy than the average japanese person due to the intense workload imposed on them by deadlines and personal expectations. Comics are a very demanding artform, and even though I'm not on any sort of mandated schedule there are times where I've toiled away at something when I likely should have been exercising or taking vision-breaks. Therefore the best advice I can give you is to chill the hell out.
Namely, find parts of the process you can be lazy about, and embrace the laziness! You don't like digitally sketching? Don't do it! Skip it, or maybe find a way to traditionally sketch things out in advance like I do. Hate lineart? Don't fucking do it. You really don't feel like wasting your time writing 72k words of comic scripts? ...then, don't be like me. skip that part. I'm a flawed human being and what works for me might not work for you.
The second most important piece of advice I could give is to read comics. Of all kinds. The reason for this is pretty self explanatory: In order to figure out your own comic-making style, you should first pick out bits and pieces from the artist's buffet to add to your plate. Manga, graphic novels, american comics, european comics, weird niche little webcomics, funny papers, anything and everything. This advice rings true of pretty much any art form, but I find it to be essential to honing comic-making skills because so many things you feel will just come intuitively often don't. and that's okay! nobody is born knowing how to leave space for speech bubbles or shape their panels in a way that imitates stretches of time. The best way to figure out stuff like this, in my experience, is to study the "masters", and then after becoming well accustomed to the basics, figure out what rules you want to bend or break to create your own style.
I consider myself to be in equal parts a writer and an artist, which lends itself well to making narrative comics, but maybe you're a bit more of an artist and want to focus on panel-by-panel visual storytelling. Or, conversely, maybe your talents lean closer towards writing, and the art itself is more of a secondary skill. Regardless of your unique blend of talents you can and should make a comic, you should just also be aware of your strengths and try to hone in on those- there will always be opportunities to build up skills you lack, but focusing on what you do best will always lead you in the right direction.
Anyway, that being said, here are some recommendations in no particular order:
Monster, Naoki Urasawa (!!)
Bone, Jeff Smith
Witch Hat Atelier, Kamome Shirahama
The first IDW run of Transformers comics (namely More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light)
Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi (!!)
Through the Woods, Emily Carroll (really any Emily Carroll comics)
Kill Six Billion Demons (webcomic) (!!)
Akira, Katsuhiro Otomo
The Third Person, Emma Grove
Tintin, Hergé (can be super racist please be wary)
Dungeon Meshi, Ryoko Kui
Calvin & Hobbes, Bill Watterson
Maus, Art Spiegelman
Cucumber Quest (webcomic)
Jellyfish Princess, Akiko Higashimura
Golden Kamuy, Satoru Noda (!!)
Note that I did not grow up with manga so I am seriously behind on a lot of extremely influential japanese comics such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, basically any of the original Shonen Jump comics, but they're widely considered building blocks of the genre so if you love the artform I think you should give them a try! Same goes for classic non-shonen manga genres like various Shoujo, Josei, Yuri, Gekiga, ETC.
same as above applies to a lot of classic DC and Marvel works, I unfortunately am just not a big fan of superhero comics... but I'm sure there's good stuff in there. a couple of my mutuals talk about booster gold and the blue beetle all the time so I'm assuming there has to be something worthwhile.
...and many, many, many more that I'm forgetting! I noticed as I made this list that, to my knowledge, hardly any of these are made by black or just non-japanese-mangaka BIPOC artists, which makes me sad about the gaps in my own comic collection. Therefore, anyone is welcome to add their own recommendations in the replies!
now go forth, and combine images with text!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey! So I’m wanting to also start making web graphics, and I’m just curios, what program/website do you use to make your stamps?
hi there (˃ᗜ˂) !!
i use ibis x paint which is super easy and convenient since u can use it on a phone ! i can do a more in depth tutorial with pictures if anyone would like , but here's a quick guide under the cut !!
standard image stamps !
on ibis x paint, insert your stamp template ! you can find them all over tumblr or make your own ( 99px x 56px ) :3
then , add in your image under the template ! it'll be super pixelated , dw about it , stamps are very small in dimensions :P
finally , use an eraser tool to erase the parts of the image that are outside the template !
gif stamps !
I use the site ezgif , resize my gifs to 93px x 49px , and use the overlay tool to add the stamp template :
firstly , extend the canvas size , then , add the overlay and reposition ( left : 42 , top : 22 - but it varies on the template , you might have to play around with the repositioning )
finally , use the crop tool and use the automatic crop transparent pixels tool :3
i hope this helps !! <333
also , all of this was just info gathered from other old web enjoyers on tumblr so full credit to them !! i just added my own stuff that i liked :3

how do you do ur pngs? I just wanna know and if u can, can u make a tut?
Hi!
I just use canva! I honestly just use the ios or discord avatar template
I use the background remover and magic grab ...which lets say if I have downloaded a sticker sheet, magic grab allows me to get lets say a couple stickers and separate them from the sheet (good for individual stickers) (re like grabbing individual elements from something like this)

I now have around 2000 pngs or so, so that in itself is like my own personal database, which I do find ways to reuse clips I've made. Which helps with efficiency and making borders and pins for my pinterest.
Some pngs where I've played around with different layers and elements is really just a matter of practice. I love mixing up styles too
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I love playing around with the transparency of layers also! I've been making wallpapers using the shuffles app re pinterest and love using overlays, so same premise. This png I used the background and image, then played around with transparency
Tumblr media
Lastly, for dividers, I just changed the layout format to let's say 150/200 pixel height and 2000 pixels length, then add images (I did miss the editing a bit, but below shows the point)
Tumblr media
Hope this helped :) thank you for the question! Lastly images for pngs are found from the web/namely pinterest!

hello there! i hope things are going well. thank you again, from a reader, for all your poems (and especially the DMC ones. they are so intense and compelling)
(that latest one made me tear up again)
a question: what program do you use to assemble your poems into pictures (god, i hope this makes sense)? as in, photoshop, or...?
i'd like to post some of my own writing, and would love advice from someone who makes such aesthetically put-together works.

Asfgshsjk thank you anon for reading and your support! I'm super happy you like my works :')
I use Canva! It's a free app on mobile and has a web version. It's really great once you get a hang of where everything is. I use the Card template for the short pieces, Poster for the longer ones, and make a custom 1090 x 1500 px template for the medium length ones.
Tumblr media
Canva has a lot of pretty fonts and images for free. You can even use the premium images—they come with a watermark on the free version, but if you make the image transparent enough, the watermark is barely perceptible.
Simple fonts like Times New Roman are my go-to for easy reading. Adding a text box is better imo than using the 'body text' function because a text box allows you to pick and choose which word you want to adjust (like italicise, or change its color, etc). A body text adjusts the whole thing and doesn't let you choose a specific word.
I like to search online for the stock images or official art and screenshots from the game itself, and use the photo editor in my gallery to cut the images into the shape I want. I think you can find apps that do the same thing if your gallery doesn't have a photo editor that does that. Then I upload that image to Canva and play around with the filters and layers.
There are a lot of great rentry/graphic blogs that make amazing stuff! I love using their pngs. Check them out ♥︎♥︎♥︎ @bydollita @thybakery @honeyluvsw @rosjarios @suturical @ambersalbums ♥︎♥︎♥︎
If you ever want further tips I'd be happy to help! I've been using canva for like 6 years and learned things I wish I knew when I first started

My 2024 AO3 Wrapped is here!
I dreamed this little project up sometime in the summer, and I made my dreams come true with a gigantic sprawling spreadsheet, a lot of elbow grease, dedication & a wonderful Canva template.
The best part is that I've also made the spreadsheet available for you to copy & make your own so that you too can have a glorious little wrap up graphic to look back on or share with your friends <3 That information as well as some basic setup are here, and a link to the Canva template for the video is below the cut. Enjoy!
AO3s brand guide & logo are all publicly available through a quick web search, which is how I picked the colors for the video!
