Make It So Friday

I think it’s always a fun read when Diane Carey writes Kathryn Janeway. And this book was no different. It’s a part of the Captain’s Table series. The Captain’s Table is a bar that only Captain’s of ships (of all sorts, sailing, space, etc.) can enter. And, when they enter, they usually find themselves telling a story about a big Captaining that they did. In Janeway’s case, it’s not a story of her being in command of the USS Voyager, but getting picked up by another bunch of people and finding her way on their ship.

The whole series is great, seeing different parts of the Captains that we think we know from the TV series. But, I liked this one just a teeny bit more because there were fewer (actually, none) interruptions of the narrative while Janeway was telling her story. Such a fun read, and definitely my favorite of the Captain’s Table series.

That Captain America Healing Factor is all well and good until someone on the team has to pin Steve down and re-break his arm because they didn’t splint it in time and it healed wrong. Until they have to dig a knife into his face and pull out glass fragments that his skin healed over in five minutes flat. Until he has to have surgery wide awake because no anaesthetic works and the only other option is a leather belt between his teeth and useless platitudes like its going to be okay Steve, I promise, it’ll be over soon.

i love thinking about captain john price himself being completely whipped for his wife. just the idea of a big, tall, brooding man who’s unabashedly down bad for his sweet little wife. i mean, god forbid something slightly pisses him off, the second her hand touched his arm and she says ‘honey, it’s okay…’ so gently, he calms down like he was never even mad in the first place. will mumble out a quiet ‘sorry, angel’ in a much softer tone that he reserves for her only and immediately lets it go.

he just can’t bring himself to ever be mad at his wife, she puts up with so much from him, after all, and is so patient. he knows deep down he doesn’t deserve a partner so kind, so he would never on his life raise his voice at his wife, it’s always the last thing on his mind. he knows better than that.

if he’s aggravated because of work, he makes it his mission to calm himself down on the car ride home so he’ll never take it out on her, and everything melts away when he sees her sitting on the couch so sweet with a big smile on her face, so happy to see him home again, and he suddenly forgets what pissed him off at work earlier.

Hey you guys know that your average Jay fan finds people that uwu white softboy twinkify him are annoying, right? That we also don't like is when people shove Nya aside in favor of Jay, especially in relation to Skybound, right?? That we do actually care about Nya's character outside of the context of Jaya, right??? That we are also critical of how he's been written over the years both by the official writers and fans, right??? Y'all understand that it's frustrating to have a character you like boiled down to his worst outings when no other character on the cast gets treated that way, right???? Was thinking of Split and other aus involving Marvel being perceived as a dad and immediately my mind went to ‘Billy claims to be the dad instead’, since Marvel being created or born from his idea of a hero, technically being older, and being the new wizard giving him a higher status then Marvel

Or the shazamily just randomly claim to be Billy’s kids so they don’t get give away to much about themselves that eventually it becomes a inside joke between them

With Price's old man dead, it falls to Mac to do the embarrassing shit like show Nik the proverbial baby photos. In the absence of a bare-arsed Baby Price in the bath tub, Mac falls back on all the embarrassing, grainy photographs and footage he has of Lieutenant Price fresh out of selection being an absolute goofball on main.

Mac has a few with Nik and the 141 at the stag do and whips out a video he has of Price dancing to Soulja Boy with a bunch of Iraqi boys in Helmand. Price is twenty-one in the video. A whole year before he met Nikolai in The Phoenix and convinced him to flip sides. It instantly becomes Nik's favourite image of his captain; laughing, bright-eyed, and floundering around like a Labrador pup with paws that are too big for him.

Soap and Gaz watch the bloody thing on repeat and spend the next few weeks until the wedding perfecting the moves. Price is just about hammered enough at his own reception that he joins in when they get the DJ to play the tune so they can tear up the dance floor.

Old man still has the moves sixteen years later.

The tables turn so beautifully on Captain Wentworth halfway through Persuasion! He disentangles himself from Louisa only to find Anne on the point of being engaged (he believes). I like this passage from his random, unnamed friends:

As soon as they were out of sight, the ladies of Captain Wentworth's party began talking of them.

"Mr Elliot does not dislike his cousin, I fancy?"

"Oh! no, that is clear enough. One can guess what will happen there. He is always with them; half lives in the family, I believe. What a very good-looking man!"

"Yes, and Miss Atkinson, who dined with him once at the Wallises, says he is the most agreeable man she ever was in company with."

"She is pretty, I think; Anne Elliot; very pretty, when one comes to look at her. It is not the fashion to say so, but I confess I admire her more than her sister."

"Oh! so do I."

"And so do I. No comparison. But the men are all wild after Miss Elliot. Anne is too delicate for them."

I love it! Wentworth said she was so altered for the worse, his friends think she's prettier than Elizabeth! And Mr. Elliot is SO handsome and well mannered. And he's the heir of Kellynch! Suddenly the old ship (Anne), worn and broken up, is a hot commodity.
