A Small FotA/TCP Aesthetics Rant
! DISCLAIMER ! This is not meant to offend anyone or tell anybody that they cannot enjoy seeing this series and the world this way! These are just my personal opinions and views on the series that I felt might be fun to share! Also, spoilers for... well not much but specifically the end of Wicked king So, recently, I’ve seen a ton of people(specifically on TikTok/BookTok) show the aesthetic of Faerieland in The Folf of the Air series as this dark academia fantasy type situation. Which is great! I do think that that aesthetic matches with the themes of the story and such and is valid! However, I wanted to give my take on why this aesthetic is actually unfitting for Faerieland (Not for the story) Throughout the course of FotA, and in many beliefs, Faeries are seen as tricksters. Especially in FotA, from the Faerie Fruit to the way that Jude describes the land, theres this constant theme of things not being as they seem. Everything is beautiful, gorgeous, it’s supposed to feel like the perfect world, filled with so much color and all of these fantastical elements weaved in. However, once you actually spend any amount of time there, can you realize how horrifically dangerous this place can be, especially for those who weren’t raised there. This whole aesthetic also fits in and almost foils many of the characters. Specifically Cardan. While, yes, many of out main cast of characters are portrayed as corrupt and stay that way. Cardan has a very strong edgy and sharp aesthetic to most of his outfit and his design. However, as I’m sure we all know, his strong dislike of Jude his a cover-up for his true feelings, pretty much a reverse of Faerieland itself. Aswell as this coinciding with the armor "riddle” in QoN. Aside from the previously mentioned reasons, I do have two more ones that are a bit more indulgent and less evidence based. 1) Worldbuilding! I like the idea that Faerieland and Cardan both have a different exterior/first impression to what they truly are, I think it fits in nicely with the fact that the world and the land is supposed to change with the High King. Granted, even if they’re opposite each other. 2) Character Designs! With the Dark Fantasy Aesthetic, there’s only so much you can do for character design. Most characters all need to stick with darker color palettes and be some-what edgy-er(not that some edge is a bad thing! it’s just a very confined box). With a more general Fantasy Aesthetic, especially one with more colors, you can do so much more with character design and bring in different sub-aesthetics of fantasy/royalcore for differentiate other courts or the UnderSea in ways other than just them being covered in seashells and such. Anyways, thank you for coming to my TedTalk. I know it’s a long LONG rant but it’s just an Idea I’ve had in my head for a little bit. Let me know if you guys want more stuff like this! I've got some more things like this floating around in my brain so its all free game!

Fuck all love letters except whatever Cardan Greenbriar had going on when he wrote “my heart is buried with you in the strange soil of the mortal world, as it was drowned with you in the cold waters of the undersea. it was yours before i could admit it, and yours it shall ever remain”

It's crazy to think that Jude was Madoc's favorite because she was the most like him.
and she stopped being his favorite because she was the most like him.
They were too similar, bound to clash.

The fact that exchange of rings during marriage isn't a tradition in faerie but Cardan still knew of it and did it with Jude 😭😭✋ the bastard had his research done just in case
Also probably had it planned in his mind when he took Jude's ring days ago... I love this cheeky bastard 😭😭

thinking about how cardan stole jude’s ring by kissing the back of her hand.
how he stole it only to wear it himself, keeping it on him at all times.
how the only reason he gave it back to her, was so that she could wear it as his wife.
i’m a puddle on the floor
