Well, more rain, for starters. *sigh* I don’t know what I was expecting. Ah well, at least it was a DIFFERENT place to dodge raindrops! (Rather pretty too, though I imagine it’s better in sunlight.) I had Smiler bring Victor and Alice there through the magic of the “bring [Sim Name] here” command, then had Alice transform into her wolf self and go hunting for meat because why not? Feels appropriate for her to do that in the Deep Woods. :p Victor and Smiler, for their parts, went and sought out the hermit’s cabin, the hermit in my game being a woman named Aleah Russ. Smiler, naturally, made instant Good Friends just by saying hello, while Victor helped Aleah with tending her garden (uh, don’t really think they needed WATERING, buddy) and grabbed a few new unidentified fruits and flowers while he was at it. (Well, unidentified for HIM -- Smiler managed to figure out what Chamomile was first try!) They all then went indoors for some less-wet chatting by the fireplace, Victor and Smiler both doing their best to get in as much piratical talk as possible for the holiday. . .

And then Alice showed up, having successfully found some meat, and scared the daylights out of poor Aleah. Right, yeah, not all Sims like werewolves. XD I had Alice transform back and initiate a proper conversation, and things improved from there, fortunately.

How to install TS3 for the ✨chronically TS4✨

Getting back into TS3 posed a challenge for me as compared to TS4. It's a 10+ year old game and of course requires some extra TLC as compared to TS4. So I hope this guide will help y'all to get everything set up cleanly and smoothly! It took me three separate tries and if I can help the next person struggle less, then that's great. Happy simming!

I fixed it in s3pe with the help of some commenters on MTS so that it does actually remove the intro. If the creator happens to see this and would like this modified version removed, let me know.

How to clear cache by Carl's Guide

Got everything pulled up? Great! You're ready to start.

1. Download a FRESHLY INSTALLED copy of TS3 to your computer. If you're able, I'd highly recommend having all the packs you're wanting to own already so you don't have to do all of this again. If you are redownloading the game for any reason (like me bc I was struggling lol), remove the existing TS3 folder in your documents and save it somewhere so you can keep all of your mods or worlds there. Back up any reshade stuff from the bin folder. Completely uninstall the game through the EA app/Steam. You may lose your saves and sims due to a change in script mods through this tutorial. This cannot be avoided, trust me I tried. But it's worth it for a smooth game.

2. Do a test launch so that the game generates a new TS3 Folder in your documents. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT INSTALL ANY SIMS 3 PACKS THROUGH THE LAUNCHER! NO WORLDS, NO CLOTHES, NO HAIR COLORS, NOTHING. This will be very important later on when you merge your CC using CCMagic. If you need worlds or other CC there are alternative ways to obtain them.

3. CLEAR THE GENERATED CACHE

4. If you use EA and open to test anywhere between steps (which you shouldn't really need to after step 1 of the Bug Fix Guide) or after playing at any point, open up task manager and ensure that you end the tasks "EA" and "EA Background Services" before continuing. It doesn't really use much memory but I noticed that it caused stutters if it's open when launching using your shiny brand new Smooth Patch. It will look like this:

5. Begin following the steps in the Performance & Bug Fix guide. The first thing you'll do is set up your mods folder. Follow those steps exactly as they are in the guide, except use the No Intro mod I linked above instead of the one you get in that folder if you actually want the intro removed.

6. Continue to FOLLOW ALL REQUIRED STEPS IN THE GUIDE UNTIL YOU'RE DONE. I mean it, all of them one by one. Heck, if you're open/able to do the bonus and optional ones, I'd suggest doing those too.

7. Once you've completed that, go check out nectar-cellar's excellent post for tips and a fix to make the smooth patch to compatible with Master Controller. I will not be providing an edited version of this as LazyDutchess who created the Smooth Patch is still active and I want to respect their work.

8. If you've made it this far, you're doing great sweetie. Do another test launch through the patcher and if everything runs correctly it means you've done everything RIGHT. You're ready to start playing or downloading mods if you want! If you do start downloading mods merging them will 100% be a must do if you want to maintain any sanity. You can use CCMagic to do so. I linked that handy lil video above!

Keep in mind script mods, overrides, patterns, and CC counters should NEVER be merged. Always check the creator's notes, yada yada. And always clean up your cache on a regular basis. Have fun y'all!

I got the idea for this template way back when I was taking these screenshots in Gen 1 of my Blossom Random Legacy, and I figured they could really come in handy for people who are doing world adventures style gameplay :)

There are 4 sizes to choose from, each one is loosely based on a photo size in the game:

Medium Landscape Medium Portrait Panorama Small Portrait They're all on a 1450x980 canvas, but you can of course crop them however you want!

It's also pretty easy to create your own custom size if you want to, as long as you have a basic knowledge of photoshop tools - every layer is completely adjustable and customizable!

Sims 4 Legacy Tips & Challenges (updated 5/2/2024) *Original Post: here

I made the original post March 24, 2023 and said I would update it at some point in the future. Not sure how much I can add to it, but I did my best to organize it a bit and add whatever I can think of.

Create-A-Sim

Don't get too caught up in specifics and/or think outside of the box and make a Sim that you're normally not used to making.

Pick Aspirations and Traits thoughtfully (and do not cheat to change them later) or roll the dice and have the game randomly choose. Another concept is to randomly pick them yourself with a number picker/generator you can find on Google.

Don't forget choosing Elder Sims is an option. Without mods male Elder Sims can father children. With mods, female Elder Sims can have children.

Lots

There is a limit to starting funds for a one Sim household (I believe it's 20,000) so make it count as much as you can. Consider lot sizes and lot prices from the start. Obviously some legacy players like to keep every Sim on one Lot through the years. If that is the case, make sure the Lot is big enough for an expanding family.

Consider purchasing a house and using whatever is left of the 20,000 to further furnish the Lot.

Relationships (Ways you can meet other Sims to begin your Legacy)

Send your Sim into the world to meet other Sims

Wait for the Mailman / Mailwoman to deliver the mail

Consider finding a roommate

Hire a Maid, Gardener, or Nanny (not sure if hiring the Nanny is possible without children on the Lot)

Hire a Butler (Vintage Glamour)

Send a Sim to work and/or University and have them meet co-workers/classmates

Wait for Winterfest and the arrival of Father Winter (Seasons)

Allow Vladislaus Straud to enter your Sims home (Vampires)

Use mods like the SimDa Dating App to find a date (LittleMsSim)

Offspring

The Sims allows several ways to have children and while some are controlled (adoption, etc), actually having a Sim give birth isn't always (unless you remember what a Sim should eat in order to influence the gender of the baby or the amount of children they can give birth to: twins or triplets).

If going into the birthing process blind, consider the amount of funds you have and the amount of funds you will need just if by chance you have more than one child at one time.

Occults (Most occults are easy to manage until they reach their teenage years, but some occults can be more difficult. I have not played with occults beyond Vampires and Mermaids mostly so I am not sure of the needs of Aliens, Plant Sims, or Werewolves at this point in time.) Check for guides on all occults and more about Sims 4 online (Carl's Sims 4 Guide)

Mermaids will not die if they are without hydration as it replaces the hygiene bar (Island Living)

Vampires will die if they are out in the sun and do not have the vampire power that will allow them to be in the sun (Vampires)

Pets (Cats & Dogs / Horse Ranch)

*If your Sim has a trait specific to one or both of the pet packs, consider starting a legacy for their animals as well.

Remember that having pets requires funds as well, but also space. A horse is going to need far more space than a cat or a dog.

General

Try not to use the money cheat

Consider not giving your a Sims a job that allows for them to get a promotion so there is no increase in pay or bonuses easily.

Consider gardening/farming as a way to increase your household funds especially at the start of your legacy, but remember that not every harvestable can grow all year round which will require you to plant things inside your Sims home rather than other or use mods that allow for restrictions not to apply.

Consider owning farm animals so you are able to collect eggs, wool, and other things that will help with the costs of food or hobbies that your Sims have, as well as allowing for funds if sold. (Cottage Living and Horse Ranch)

Consider owning pets and selling their puppies/kittens. Mods will allow for selling of adult dogs/kittens. (Cats & Dogs)

Watch your Sims for a bit and see what objects they interact with the most or which Sims they interact with the most to help better develop their personalities and what awaits them as they live through their Sims lives.

If a Sim reaches their end before you're ready, allow the legacy / game to progress. Of course if the Sim that passes hasn't left an offspring then that is where the legacy ends.

Some weather conditions can make a Sim burn or freeze while lightning can electrocute them so be aware if weather is turned on and your Sims happen to be sleeping outside for whatever reason. (Seasons)

I also have several hundred (maybe a thousand?) custom clothing, accessories, make-up, eyes, hair, etc. Several customized aspirations, and miscellaneous mods I didn't add to the list.

I think I'm up to almost 2,000 mods total now 😅thank goodness my laptop can handle it all and still make the game look pretty.

Hello have you experienced an issue where you go to a restaurant in the sims and there's no host, chef or waiters?

I’ve had that happen to me a few times before. Sometimes it seems to be at random??? I don’t know what that issue could be. But I would suggest trying Carl’s Guides Dine Out Mod. That mod includes a lot of improvements/fixes so I’d check that out!
