Seanan, you may already be aware of this but the show 9-1-1 Lone Star season 3 episode 15 depicts a man who stabs himself in the leg while attempting to stab an alligator lizard, which then takes refuge in the puncture wound. I recognized that as your story and i hope it was used with permission. I don't have a question i just wanted to bring this to your attention.
Oh, I am very aware. And no, they didn't ask permission, but yes, I was (and am) endlessly delighted because--and this is important--you can't copyright non-fiction. If something really happened, it's fair game, as long as you change some details (a foundation on which Dick Wolf's career is built).
When I first shared the "lizard in the leg" story, strangers from across the world showed up to call me a liar. I don't lie for free. All my lying is in the form of fiction that I would very very very much like you to pay for. So having a true story of my real life stolen by shady news sites and getting called a liar over and over and over again, well...it hurt my feelings. A lot. It's why I don't tell animal rescue stories online anymore.
But you can't copyright non-fiction. And that means that when the 911: Lone Star writers wanted to base an episode open around the story of Bowie the alligator lizard, they were able to find the corroborating evidence that proves it really happened.
I AM PROVEN HONEST BY A RYAN MURPHY SHOW.
Also, the camper was in his early 20s when this happened, and is probably still alive, and I really hope he saw the episode.

My brain is buzzing over the update oh my fucking christ (SPOILERS AHEAD)
The sudden and sharp juxtaposition between the increasingly-goofy hotdog recipes and "It's a dog! There it is!"
The fucking mug of hot cocoa in the jello mold.....the single pea on a plate...........
The new hidden site and "W"
The WHRP's attempts to "clean up" the site are definitely shady as shit
THE SITE (or at least the homepage) IS WARBLING
The hidden scribbles on some of the artwork!!!
The voice acting!!!!!
THE ANIMATION!!!!! THE ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE-ESQUE ANIMATION!!!!! The cigarette commercial was my favorite like that was ABSOLUTELY a reference to that one Flintstones commercial, close second is the sleep pill commercial
EVERYTHING WITH EDDIE OH MY GOD ATTENTION ALL MAILMEN PLEASE SURVIVE
EDDIE'S DISSOCIATION MAKING FRANK BREAK CHARACTER
I AM ONCE AGAIN GOING FERAL OVER COLOR THEORY
One thing I just cannot get over is how.....violent the holiday segments were. Eddie got so distressed that he swatted stuff off his desk. Frank and Sally got into some kind of altercation during their Homewarming song. It's like, those are moments that would normally be presented as goofy slapstick within the show, but here they almost feel...too real. Uncomfortably real. And I'm eating this shit up. Like ideally I want all of the neighbors to work together and come out of Whatever's About To Happen alive but right now?? The tension??? IT'S DELICIOUS

My Hero Academia: Healthcare?
Tumblr media
I don't know if any fanfic writers will find this useful or not, but I think the information is interesting and worth speculation in the My Hero setting. This also applies to any fanfic writers in the anime fandoms who want to have more immersive and in-depth writing. Obviously, writing fics that are 'accurate' is not a requirement since the point is to have fun, but here's some knowledge to use (or not use) if anyone is interested.
Obviously, Deku's been in the hospital a lot. A lot of the characters are injured and in the hospital a lot. But for all the hospital visits, nobody in the series is going to be bankrupted by astronomical healthcare costs. (Yes, that's a jab at America's system.) And it's not because the Pros, especially the popular ones, have money.
Here's why:
Quick rundown of how healthcare in Japan works: Everybody receives healthcare, everybody has health insurance. In Japan, your employer is legally required to provide you with health insurance. If you are unemployed, you will be on a community healthcare plan. There is also a plan for citizens over the age of 75. This also applies to foreigners who have established permanent residence of three months or longer.
Article 25 of Japan's Constitution is paraphrased as follows:
“all people shall have the right to maintain a certain standard of healthy and cultured life” and that “the state shall try to promote and improve the conditions of social welfare, social security, and public health” for this purpose.
I'm not going to reiterate the system in its entirety, but if you would like to learn more, this site here (the Article 25 quote I used is also found on that page) has a brief and comprehensive explanation of how healthcare is handled. However, one thing I am going to mention that is relevant for Deku and other Pros is the threshold out-of-pocket expense.
In Japan, citizens enrolled in healthcare do not spend more than ¥90,000 per month out of pocket, protecting them from financial disaster.
(To Americans, this may sound like a sweet deal, but hold your horses because Japan also funds this system through heavy taxation. Medical procedures are expensive and people will be paying for them one way or another.)
The question that needs asking now is how does this system apply to the hero society? Well, first off, since My Hero does take place in a slightly futuristic setting, we could take into consideration the system has been revised.
Assuming not much as changed, are heroes that operate their own agency technically considered business owners and are required to insure their employees and sidekicks?
Or...
Because they are all government employees, is the Safety Commission responsible for insuring all heroes and sidekicks no matter what they rank in their popularity?
Personally, I think it would be the latter since, in the coldest sense of the word, the heroes are essential to the Commission in upholding their system. So that makes them an asset. The Commission would want to protect its assets because as shady as they are, their own system could work against them. They certainly don't want heroes going on strike for lack of benefits or complaining the government doesn't take care of their people. So I assume it's the Commission who is covering insane healthcare costs on behalf of heroes.
(And since the system is probably funded by taxpayers' money, that also feeds into the prevalent societal discontent that's ongoing throughout the series.)
Now what about Deku and his classmates since they have not graduated and are not officially licensed yet? Honestly, I think it's probably UA itself that insures the students. That probably has to do with accreditation and so on, which is another matter entirely, but again, the backing is likely coming out of the Commission (and taxpayers') pockets.
And there you have it. Happy writing, happy research.

When Push Comes to Shove
first Shoot fic :D
Tumblr media
Warnings: stalking, depictions of violence, kidnapping
Word count: 4.9k
The apartment was largely empty; the walls were bare and the only pieces of furniture within the unit were a small table, a chair and a sleeping bag that stayed out in the living room area as opposed to the bedroom. The only other pieces of miscellaneous objects was the phone that was currently plugged into a charger, a bag and a small pile of laundry that had yet to be washed. Other than those things, there was little else in the apartment unit.
Aside from Shoot himself.
Currently he was standing near the window that looked over a parking lot and a different apartment building across the way, peering through the glass as he watched his current target.
….. Using the word target didn't feel quite right in this situation. Even if it was accurate. Even if the person he was watching was one that he'd been watching for months now.
No, 'watching' wasn't the correct term; what he was doing was stalking.
But it was different, he told himself.
After all, Shoot didn't mean you any harm. He just wanted you to be with him.
But actually going through and making that desire a reality was where he was slipping up.
In his role of a Beast Hunter, Shoot had faced down hordes of charging animals and encountered all sorts of shady characters in the most hostile of environments, but somehow the thought of taking you, a defenseless civilian, felt like the more difficult task. As usual, his cowardice would show its face at the worst possible time.
He sighed to himself, and then looked back again to a particular window in the apartment building across from his.
You were in the same place: on the couch in your living room with your laptop, your eyes focused on the screen and your mouth set in a slight frown.
No doubt you were looking through available job listings.
The company you had worked at previously had downsized, causing a fair amount of employees to be laid off. Unfortunately, you were among those that were deemed to be expendable.
All that had happened a few months prior, and you had since gotten a temporary job. It wasn't one that you liked, however, and you had told everyone around you that it was just something to keep yourself afloat until you found something better. Except the 'something better' that you were looking for had yet to reveal itself to you, so you'd been scouring job sites and putting in your resume where you could, though it wasn't going as well as you'd hoped. You were still stuck with a job you didn't like, and came back home after every shift exhausted and stressed.
Shoot had been keeping an eye on you since you'd gotten back today, and some time had now passed since you first opened up your laptop in search of a job better suited to you. Though it seemed as if you were finishing up with the job search tonight, as he watched while you sighed to yourself and then shut the laptop closed, stretching your arms out over your head after. It was confirmed to him when you pulled out your phone and began scrolling through it aimlessly.
No luck tonight, but you'd try again tomorrow. That was most likely your line of thinking.
He hoped you'd eat something soon, though. Since getting back, you all you had done was take a shower and then immediately after went on the job search, and the only thing he'd seen you consume during that time was a single glass of water.
You needed to take better care of yourself.
But as much as he wished he could head over to your unit and remind you to eat something, all that would result in was you becoming afraid of him when you realized that he had been watching you. Plus some possible issues with law enforcement if you were to go to the police. Though with his Hunter license on hand, they wouldn't be able to do much of anything even if they did manage to come across him. But it would no doubt cause you stress.
That worry about your well-being was also why he was in this current predicament:
As much as Shoot wanted you, he worried about how well you would take it if he went through with kidnapping you. No matter what, your mental state would suffer and you would definitely hate him in the beginning.
Shoot sighed again, chiding himself internally. There had been a time when needing to take you wouldn't have been necessary, when he could've possibly approached you and started up a relationship in a 'normal' way. But every time he had tried, he always ended up psyching himself out and running off before you could even lay eyes on him.
And every time after, as he berated himself while staring at you from the apartment he rented for the sole purpose of keeping an eye on you, he told himself that he could try again next time, and that he'd be successful then. That he had as much time as he needed to accomplish that.
What a stupid thought.
He should've known better. Not just as a Hunter, but as someone with common sense. He should've known that he couldn't have expected that things would always stay the same with you, that you would magically stay single until he finally built up the nerve to speak to you.
Shoot noticed when the screen of your phone suddenly lit up as you received a phone call, and after reading the name on the screen, you smiled to yourself.
Based on that reaction, Shoot already had an idea as to who was calling, and his suspicions were confirmed when you answered the phone and he read your lips as you greeted the caller with a 'hey babe'.
The only person you would speak to like that was Kian.
Your boyfriend.
The two of you had only been going out for over a month now, but it seemed to be going well for you. And despite the short amount of time together, you always seemed so happy whenever you spoke to him after a difficult day.
Just like now, when he saw you smiling at something Kian had said and observed the way the tension left your shoulders. Just because of a few words from him.
…..
… Ah, damn.
Shoot realized that he was grinding his teeth again. It was a bad habit that he'd begun only recently, coinciding with when you started dating Kian. Just knowing that another man was spending time with you like that frustrated Shoot more than he thought possible.
It was even worse to see another man touching you.
Though that was his own fault, he reminded himself. For never getting up the courage to approach you and telling himself that it was fine to continue hanging back and watching you from afar. That cowardice of his had cost him his opportunity, and now he was forced to watch you go on dates and being affectionate with your boyfriend.
Despite that, Shoot couldn't bring himself to do anything to your boyfriend. Not only because he truly didn't enjoy hurting others, but he was aware that Kian hadn't done anything wrong. Even if he frustrated Shoot just by the way he spoke to you, you had chosen him, so it was natural that he would be loving towards you and that you would respond in kind.
Shoot simply disagreed with your choice.
You were still on the phone with Kian, and Shoot could tell most of what you were saying by reading your lip movements, though you occasionally made it difficult whenever you turned your head away from the direction of the window. The topic was your job search and how you still hadn't heard anything from any of the places you'd applied to.
After you said that, your expression fell slightly, and your demeanor was more in line with what he'd seen when you were on those job sites earlier. But that changed when your boyfriend said something to you, and there was a smile on your face once more. It looked like you were agreeing with him.
I sent in an application to Motoba, too. Maybe they'll like my resume.
That was the last thing he could decipher before you changed the topic away from the job hunt and instead asked your boyfriend how his day had been. After that, you were mostly quiet, only piping in occasionally with some comment to whatever your boyfriend was saying.
All Shoot could hope for was that this wouldn't be a call that lasted hours again. It wasn't terribly late, but you had a tendency to talk for a long time with Kian. And you still hadn't eaten.
Tell him that you need to hang up, Shoot silently urged you. That you need to do the bare minimum in taking care of yourself. If he really cares about you, he'll respect that.
All you did was reach for the glass of water you'd gotten for yourself earlier and drink what little was still left in it.
And the phone call was still ongoing.
Shoot sighed.
Once again, all he could do was watch. Watch and wait until you were done talking with him, and then hope that you'd get some dinner before you eventually went to bed. At least you could get a decent rest tonight, he thought to himself. Your job had scheduled you to work in the early afternoon tomorrow, so you could sleep in if you needed to.
That would likely be the only highlight, however. After that, it would be another day where you worked hard at a job you hated before returning home to continue your unsuccessful search for one that would be better for you. All because Shoot couldn't bring himself to follow through.
Because every time he felt like he could go to you and catch you off-guard, a voice in his head would give him some reason as to why he shouldn't.
Breaking in would make too much noise and leave too much damage.
You would fight him and he'd need to use more force than he wanted.
There were too many bystanders in the area that would either act as would-be rescuers or potential witnesses to your kidnapping.
Every time, lines of reasoning like that would pop into his head, and his cowardice would reappear as he once again did nothing to put an end to the limbo he'd created for himself.
And that was the case now, it seemed.
It was unlikely that anything more would happen tonight. Once again he was disappointed in himself for having squandered another chance to take you, but he countered that by telling himself that it would be fine; he'd follow through once he worked himself up to it.
….. Wasn't that mentality the reason he was in this predicament in the first place?
He found that he wanted to assure himself that it'd be different tomorrow, that he would finally follow through and make his desire to have you for himself a reality.
Unfortunately, that was also something he'd said to himself far too often.
Shoot glanced over to you again, just in time to see that you were now speaking, and he read the words on your lips again.
Yeah, that sounds great! I work later tomorrow, anyway.
Shoot's brows furrowed.
What had you just agreed to?
You stood up and turned around as you ended the call, inadvertently keeping Shoot from being able to tell what you said to your boyfriend before hanging up. Then you walked away from the window, heading towards your bedroom.
A pit formed in Shoot's stomach; it felt like something was going to happen that he wouldn't like.
When you walked back into view, you were carrying a small backpack, finishing up in stuffing extra clothes inside before tossing the backpack onto the couch and collecting your shoes from the other side of the room.
You were going over to spend the night with him, Shoot realized.
All the signs were pointing to that, and he felt his teeth grinding again.
….. No.
He wasn't going to let that happen.
But what could he do to stop you? Your boyfriend was expecting you and he would quickly notice that you were missing when you didn't show up at his place if Shoot chose to take you then. At the very least the Hunter wanted a few hours head start before anyone realized you were gone. That couldn't be accomplished at the moment.
It likely wouldn't be questioned it if you canceled on those plans, though. But the only way Shoot could see that happening was if he grabbed you on your way out and forced you to call up your boyfriend to tell him that you weren't going over. That would probably require threatening you, something Shoot didn't think he could do even if he didn't mean it. And it still ran the risk of you blurting out something over the phone and thereby making his efforts pointless.
No, the safest way would be if you canceled on your own.
But was there any way he could get you to do that?
Not sure of what to do, Shoot looked about his own unit, if there was possibly anything in there that could help him. That was when he caught sight of his phone, still plugged in and fully charged, and a thought struck him.
It was a bit late, but not so late that it would be outrageous if you were to get a call from one of the companies you applied to. Even if it was still odd, you were probably desperate enough to not question it.
And the name you had mentioned during your call... It was Motoba, wasn't it?
Taking in a deep breath after retrieving his phone, Shoot typed in the number to call your cellphone, a number he had learned and memorized a while ago but never had any reason to use. He then put the phone up to his ear, and listened as the line began to ring.
So much time spent watching you, but it was only now, when he felt that his back was up against the wall that he'd managed to make himself go forward with something.
Not the best tendency to have, but at least it was some assurance for himself: when push came to shove, Shoot could do what needed to be done.
He moved towards the window again, peeking out of it to see if he might see you again. Sadly, there was no sign of you in the window of your apartment, but after the phone rang twice, he heard you pick up.
“Hello?”
Your voice came through the phone's speaker, and Shoot felt as though his heart was fluttering at the sound. Realization hit him that this was the first time the two of you would exchange words.
Trying to keep his tone level, he addressed you by your first and last name as he asked if that was who he was speaking to. He needed to do his best to keep from messing this up.
“Who is this?” you asked.
The next attempt at speaking to you failed, and he needed to clear his throat again before he could get the words out. There was a time where he'd needed to impersonate a company worker and convince the manager in charge of an oil rig to allow Morel and Knuckle access when the management on said rig had refused to be accommodating towards the Hunters. As long as he put himself in the same mindset that he had for that job, he could pull this off too.
“I work for Motoba,” Shoot began, “I'm calling about the application you sent in.”
“Oh!”
There was more of a cheerful tone to your voice now, and he heard you walking about the apartment as you spoke again. He still didn't see you – you must've been in your bedroom.
“For the assistant position?” you asked.
“Yes, the position you applied for.”
Shoot immediately felt awkward answering like that and added “I wanted to know if you could come in tomorrow for an interview.”
“Tomorrow?” you asked.
There was a hint of surprise in your voice, as if you weren't expecting an interview to be scheduled so soon.
Stay in that mindset, he told himself. Play it off like it's normal.
“Is that a problem?” he asked.
“No no. That's completely fine,” you quickly answered, “Sorry, I just didn't expect to hear anything so fast.”
“Of course,” Shoot replied, “I'm sorry if I'm calling too late.”
“Oh no, not at all! I'm really glad to hear from you.”
With his eyes still on your window, he saw when you finally walked back into view, the phone up to your ear while you looked ready to head out. He had called just in time, then.
“What time would you like me to come in?” you asked.
“Does eight in the morning work for you?”
“Yes, that should be-”
You stopped speaking when your eyes happened to look out the window. For a brief moment, your eyebrows furrowed as you looked at the apartment across from you.
The one where Shoot was currently standing at the window.
Only for a brief moment, however, for as soon as he saw your eyes catching sight of his form, he moved to the side and out of view.
His palms were starting to sweat, but he kept himself calm.
“Is everything alright?” he asked you.
His question brought your attention back to the call, and you stammered out “y-yeah. Sorry. It's fine. Eight is just fine.”
“Good. And you know where the main building is?” he asked.
“I believe it's off of Continental Street?”
“Yes.”
“Then yes, I know where to go,” you replied. In the background, Shoot could hear you doing something, though he wasn't certain what exactly that was just from the noise alone.
“We'll see you tomorrow, then,” Shoot told you.
“Yeah- yes! I'll see you tomorrow at eight,” you said, trying to keep your words professional as you added “thank you for calling me.”
“Of course.”
The phone call ended shortly after, leaving Shoot to stare at his phone screen.
Your voice sounded warm during those last moments of the call, and Shoot imagined you smiling when you spoke to him, like he'd made you happy. Though part of him was fully aware that you were happy for the opportunity he told you of and that you felt nothing for him. Certainly not from a phone call that didn't even last five minutes.
Still, he chose to imagine that it had brought you a little bit of happiness. Largely because he knew it would take some time for you to feel happy again after tomorrow. It would be a long period of distress and anger on your part once you realized what he did, and it would likely stress you out even more than your current situation was doing to you.
But it would work out for the best, he told himself.
Shoot then peeked out his window to look at you again, but he was disappointed when he found that the blinds to your window had been closed.
So that was what he'd heard you doing at the end of the call.
Still, it could've been worse; you could've been heading out to be with your boyfriend right now. And as Shoot watched your front door for several minutes and saw that it stayed closed, he felt some relief. The need to get up early in the morning kept you from going to spend a late night out at your boyfriend's place.
At least he had put a stop to that.
The next few hours passed by without any incident. You stayed inside, though because of the blinds that now covered the windows, he only had an idea of what you were doing based on what he had seen of your previous habits. Eventually the lights in your apartment turned dark, signaling that you'd gone to bed so you could get up early to be ready in time for your interview. Once that happened, Shoot sat down, leaning against the wall as he went over everything in his head.
There was no backing out of this now.
No matter what happened tomorrow morning, he couldn't back down again. Even if things went wrong. That internal voice of his would need to keep its mouth shut.
And finally, the limbo would come to an end.
Tumblr media
In the early hours of the morning, when the light of the sun was only barely brightening up the sky, Shoot was waiting for you.
Standing at the end of the walkway, his eyes were fixed on your front door as he waited for the moment where you left.
You hadn't left yet, though he assumed that you would soon in order to make it to your eight o'clock interview. With the distance and how bad traffic could get, you would want to make sure that you had plenty of time to get to the Motoba building.
He would strike when you stepped out, when your back was turned and you were focused on locking up the door behind you. And even if Shoot wasn't the strongest Hunter around, subduing you wouldn't be an issue for him. Compared to some of the jobs he had taken, it would be incredibly easy.
As long as he didn't psych himself out in the middle of it.
No, that wouldn't happen. Like he had told himself last night: when push came to shove, he could do it. And as long as he moved fast and quiet, everything would go as he hoped.
A click from the door sounded as the lock was undone.
Anticipation caused his heart to beat harder when he heard that.
The door opened, and there you were. Wearing a set of nice clothes that you typically used for instances like job interviews when you wanted to make a good first impression. As expected, you were distracted when you stepped out, your attention on the door as you began to close it.
He moved.
Reaching you in moments, he clamped his hand over your mouth. He then pushed against you, forcing the door to crash open while you were forced back into your unit. And once the both of you were inside, he used his foot to shut the door behind him.
Now there would be no witnesses.
Initially, you didn't fight back. Perhaps it was shock combined with how fast it had all happened that left you pliant as he forced his way in after you. But at the sound of the slamming door you began to struggle and pull at his arm, a muffled screaming coming from beneath his palm as you tried to make as much noise as possible. And when that didn't work, you began to try your hardest to bite and scratch at him.
Shoot's left sleeve slipped off, falling to the floor.
You didn't notice the hands at first, too focused on gouging your nails into your attacker's arm to get him off of you. But you became aware when two of them grabbed ahold of your wrists and forced them away from his arm. For a brief moment, your cries stopped and you looked on in shock as you saw that you were being further restrained by a pair of floating hands.
Then you started to hyperventilate, taking in harsh breaths as you tried to comprehend the situation. Without a knowledge of nen, you couldn't understand it.
Shoot had been watching your expressions during this whole time, and when you looked up at him as the tears started to form in your eyes, he felt his resolve falter slightly.
He could stop this.
He could end this before it went any further and leave you alone. Leave the area completely and never come back, and if by some strange chance he was identified as being the one who attacked you, his Hunter status would still protect him. This could end here and there wouldn't be any affect on his life as it was right now.
For you, the situation was one that was terrifying and the aftermath would leave you shaken and confused, but if it stopped here it would leave you relatively unharmed. All you would need to deal with would be police reports and therapy sessions, and you would no doubt have some trauma that would cause you to be more aware of your surroundings, but that would be it.
Shoot could leave, and then all he would be to you was just a terrifyingly bad memory.
A bad memory....
…. And then what, you would go to your boyfriend for comfort every time that memory surfaced? Forever viewing Shoot as the monster while you stayed with a man who wasn't right for you?
Shoot's jaw clenched as he steeled himself. This needed to happen.
“I'm sorry,” he told you, “but this will be for the best.”
You were trying to shake your head 'no', trying to convince him without the use of your words that what he was doing was wrong. You were so focused on trying to appeal to him that you didn't notice the third floating hand that hovered in front of you and clenched itself into a fist.
You weren't aware of it until it slammed into your stomach.
Your eyes widened further for a moment before they fell shut, and you became limp in his grasp. Now you were unconscious, something he was grateful for as Shoot had no desire for you to be awake as he began the process of placing you within Hotel Rafflesia. There was now a hole of black mist in the area where he had hit you, and when the hands on your wrists squeezed hard to cause just enough pain to meet his requirements, those areas of your body also disappeared, replaced by the black mist while they were sent to the birdcage that stood next to him.
No, you didn't need to see any of that.
Minutes later and now Shoot was the only figure standing in the apartment, his heart still beating wildly, this time from the knowledge that he'd actually done it. He had you. Not that he was in any position to be celebrating; he could still be discovered if he hung around here too long. Best to leave sooner rather than later.
But as he picked up his sleeve that had fallen earlier, his attention went back to the small cage before him. Hotel Rafflesia now housed all of you, and you were now sprawled out on the floor of the cage. You would likely be out for some time. That was what Shoot hoped for, at least. You hadn't understood his conjured hands from earlier, and you definitely wouldn't understand if you woke up while still being trapped in his ability. It would be for the best if you slept through all of that.
You'd be sore all over when you woke up, but all the injuries you'd gotten from him would be easily healed.
Less easy would be the state you would be in mentally, but he chose not to think about that for now. That would be a bridge Shoot would cross when he came to it.
As for now, he needed to leave.
With the cage and his conjured hands hidden within the long cloth of his sleeve, he quietly shut the apartment door behind him before heading back towards the stairs. He couldn't hear anything odd coming from any of the units he passed by as he descended, no signs that anyone noticed something amiss. A majority of them were either asleep or too focused on their morning routines to notice the slight disturbance from moments ago.
Good. That was what he'd hoped for.
When he exited the property line of the apartment complex was when Shoot allowed himself to let out a sigh of relief. He had gotten you out without incident, though he was well aware that it was still too early to celebrate. You were now out of the apartment, and now he needed to get you out of the city, preferably before you woke up.
That part would be easier, all things considered, as it would take a bit of time before anyone was aware that you were missing. He knew for certain that you weren't expected anywhere until the early afternoon, and even if you had made plans to meet up with anyone for immediately after your 'interview', he still had plenty of time to leave before any alarm could be raised on that front. It would all work in his favor.
Just as that thought crossed his mind, he remembered the way you looked at him before he knocked you out. The terrified look in your eyes as you started to cry, convinced that he was going to do something horrible to you.
…. In fairness, you weren't wrong – he had hurt you. But he did it because he needed to. Not just as a way to keep you from the other man, but because things couldn't continue as they were any longer. He couldn't keep watching you and doing nothing as you went on with your life, but he couldn't imagine leaving you behind.
It would take some time before you could trust him, no doubt. But again, he told himself to only worry about that when the time came.
And again he told himself that when it really mattered, Shoot could go through with anything.
Getting you to love him back would be no different.

God help us – for art is long and life is short! (Faust: First Part, written by Johann Wolfgang Goethe and published in 1808)
hiiii heres the first part of what will (hopefully!!!) be a series of western women's fashion from 1800 to today. obviously, not all women looked like this or dressed like this. in fact, most didn't - these are largely going to be looks worn by women of a higher socioeconomic class, at least until maybe the 1880s. this is for a few reasons, mostly being, uh... availability of cc. i'd love to MAKE some historical cc but my laptop won't run blender. another reason is that the fashion of the upper classes is typically better recorded than that of lower classes, especially before the advent and popularization of photography. i'm just rambling now.
anyway! the first part: 1800-1809. we see the opulence of the georgians cling onto fashion in bows, feathers, and jewels. we also see the rise of waistlines to the iconic empire waist, and the influences of neoclassical aesthetics in fashion. hairstyles in particular were emulating those of the ancient greeks, also pulling a bit from the stuarts. this decade also allows me to share one of my favorite tidbits of fashion history: the coiffure à la titus! for a short time in the 1790s through the 1810s, some women (french women especially) took to cutting their hair short and choppy. the reasons range from inspiration taken from a popular play at the time, to symbolizing solidarity with women executed via guillotine. some men at the time thought that having short hair was actually hazardous to women's health, so while the titus cut wasn't the norm, it was widespread enough to cause quite a storm!
you'll notice that 1806 is missing. that's because the dress i used, uh... completely messed up the arms and i did not notice until i was making the gif. if you wanna see it, it'll be under the cut.

Get to know my TWST OCs pt. 3
Copper's Backstory
💫💫💫
Figured maybe doing a series of posts like this would help friends and mutuals get to know my OCs better!
Part 1: What Are They Twisted From? | Part 2: What Nicknames Do They Have?
Special thanks to @blithesharem for prompting me to do some basic character backstory write-ups for you all, starting with Copper~. Apologies in advance, this gets a little lengthy!
Warnings: child abduction, references to emotional manipulation/abuse and malnourishment of a child, references to deadnaming and misgendering, implications of animal abuse
While I try to keep all of the above mentioned mostly vague, I completely understand if you do not feel comfortable reading any of it. So please don't feel obligated to do so, you are allowed to nope out.
We open one stormy night in early May many years ago, on the stoop of an orphanage, where a child is surrendered, the person who brought them fleeing into the night before too many questions can be asked. The only real information known about the infant is that they were born in late April and are only two weeks old, and their birth name was written as Helena B—., the surname having run in the rain to the point of being unreadable apart from the first letter.
The child is raised for the first ~6-7 years of their life in the orphanage, generally keeping to themself and not making many friends. (Why bother when most of them are likely to just be gone at any given point in time due to getting adopted?) They're rather sharp-minded for their age, and pick up rather quickly that they're less likely to get adopted the older they get, as well as the fact they're often passed over for other children who fit the look or the personality that would-be parents are looking for, furthering their loneliness. The only solace they find is in the kindness of the elderly gentleman who helps with the upkeep and work of the orphanage, a cat beastman the children refer to as "Old Flynn". Flynn often takes the time to comfort and reassure the child, teaching them a rhyme to encourage them to have faith that they'll find their place and their family soon enough.
Trouble comes when a shady pair of individuals start sniffing around the orphanage claiming an interest in possibly adopting a child, but refusing to go through the appropriate channels to do so, instead trying to approach the children when they're outside at play. It's during one of these moments when, having learned the approximate times the children are called back inside, that they abduct the child named "Helena" and vanish long before her absence can be noticed. Even after this, police efforts to find the missing child are quickly abandoned in favor of suggesting "she ran away" despite the evidence of suspicious characters. Only Old Flynn retains any certainty that "Helena" was abducted and worries for them.
The abductors—a failed mage and failed performer, Gorgania Stone, and his business partner, Hiram Lurk—take the child with them to dilapidated riverboat Lurk owns, anchored in a place called The Devil's Bayou [not too far removed from the Twisted Wonderland version of New Orleans] and guarded by Stone's pet alligators, Augustus and Octavian. Though frightened, the kid makes it quite clear they're strong-willed and have a defiant streak, and when Stone eventually gets around to indicating they want the child to work to find missing valuables from other wrecks and various sites in the bayou, he's surprised by the kid's attempts to bargain his way through the whole thing. But children aren't too difficult to deal with if you've got a way with them; make them like you, make them trust you, and have the right leverage, that's all it takes to keep them in line.
And that perfect leverage makes itself known when the kid argues they are a boy, not a girl. While Lurk is prepared to try to argue with the kid, Stone sees the opportunity to make the boy pliable and promises that if he stays with them, behaves and does as he's told, he is allowed to be a boy and pick his own name. After all, he has no guarantee that even if he is adopted that a mother and father would let him do that and be himself, now does he? This tactic works, and the boy agrees, elated at the chance to be himself, and picks the name "Copper".
Over the next ~10 years, Copper is repeatedly made to track down lost valuables in the bayou that Stone and Lurk have difficulty in reaching or uncovering due to their size. This results in a lot of withholding meals as a means of keeping him smaller and capable of navigating tight spaces and various wreckage. Along the way he's found to be ambidextrous and double-jointed in most of his fingers, resulting in Stone gradually teaching him various little skills to "help him". In addition, the more lost valuables and treasures Copper uncovers, the more Stone is willing to give some leeway, bringing the boy books to help him along with his education, including tomes of magic once Copper shows an aptitude for it. (Never enough to truly empower him though.) In secret, Copper also practices his magic and befriends several animals that live in the bayou, gradually learning to speak with them and not ever realizing how his skill as a mage is developing.
He makes numerous attempts to escape Stone, but he's repeatedly caught (usually by Augustus and Octavian, with whom he gradually develops a bond and can communicate with, to Stone's increasing ire,) and his attempts are hampered by his inability to swim. Typically he has to be craftier than that. He often tries to slip away on the occasions he's dragged into town to assist Stone or Lurk with something, though these efforts are more half-hearted, quickly thwarted, and more for a show of defiance than anything. The trips to town allow him to gradually develop more of a connection with the culture there, as well as allowing him extra time to plan a more solid escape.
The one major attempt at escape comes during an afternoon when he's 14, during a particularly dry summer. With Mr. Lurk napping and the alligators seeking cool shelter, Copper manages to navigate enough dry and shallow spots to find his way out and into town on his own. Frightened and high-strung, he tries to find help, only to stumble across a community of people who offer him kindness and a chance to partake in their meal. (It's from them he takes the surname Benoit, to always remember and honor the kindness they showed him.) Touched by this and reminded of Old Flynn, Copper has a brief moment of hope that perhaps these people can help him with his escape, if not possibly find him a place to stay among them, only for Stone to arrive and charm his way through them with a vicious smile in order to drag Copper back out into Devil's Bayou. Though he makes no effort to physically punish Copper, Stone has no issue weaponizing other means of keeping him in line, referring to him as "Helena" and "girl", and revealing he knows about the animals. The old books of magic are removed, no new ones are ever brought there, and that same night all of the animals Copper had befriended disappear, never seen again.
After this, Copper is far more cautious and careful in everything he does. He begins to develop a Signature Spell/Unique Magic in secret, one he so closely guards he refuses to even consider the mechanics of how it works or how it reflects his inner resilience and desire for freedom. Over time his constant living with fear morphs into a fear-response where he intentionally starts to taunt or aggravate whatever is frightening him most, in an attempt to see how far he can get in worsening the situation before facing consequences. Stone quickly catches on and opts to ignore this, taking it as a point of teenage rebellion and contenting himself with the fact that if backtalk is all Copper is going to do, he'll live with that. The boy still has his uses.
It's those uses and his unusual gift for turning up lost pirate treasure from so many locations in Devil's Bayou that cause the turning point. The boy has no small talent as a mage, but pirate treasure is often protected by blood magic, and won't just surrender itself so willingly to someone without pirate lineage. Remembering this at last, Stone's frequent trips away from the riverboat increase as he tries to track down evidence of Copper's family tree. While he refuses to share his findings, he comes to the conclusion based on what little he is able to uncover that the boy might be descended from a legendary pirate captain. Which means there's a chance he can uncover a much larger, more valuable find.
Here's where we get into some shared universe world-building with my friends; @inmateofthemind made a post here about the first bit of lore for this, but the idea is that at some point the various arcane academies used to run something of a student exchange program following their winter break schedules, in which students of participating schools are shuffled around to one another in order to build better relations. Crowley decides to try revitalizing the Arcane Exchange for this reason. And during this period of the Arcane Exchange, Night Raven College also becomes just a touch more accessible to former alumni as well.
Stone, who has long suspected that the Headmage of his old alma mater is secretly keeping a legendary pirate treasure hidden somewhere in the depths of Night Raven College, gets wind of the Arcane Exchange and sees an opportunity: drop in unannounced for a visit under the cover story that he would like to spend some time there with his ward to see if Night Raven College would be a good fit for the boy. After all Crowley will be hard-pressed to turn them away, Stone can take this as an opportunity to use Copper to trespass and find that treasure to make him immeasurably wealthy, and perhaps if the boy is allowed the false promise of possibly attending NRC to learn magic should he behave, he'll be better about falling in line.
However, Stone underestimates Copper's capacity to both find and cause trouble, his desire to be free, and especially his eagerness to make friends with other teenagers who have just as big a knack for trouble as he does. And everyone might be also be underestimating the role Scarabia's Housewarden is going to play in all of this.
There is more but as I'm writing most of the rest of this story out in a series of oneshots and short fics, I think I'm going to stop here for now (hopefully this will give me a reason to eventually post the fics I've been writing.)

Oi! You! What is a rant about a cartoon/animation/passion that you’ve wanted to spill for a while but haven’t gotten the opportunity to? Lay it on me!
you want it? you got it.
let's talk about Cloverfield's viral marketing campaign.
July 2007, the first Transformers movie hits theaters preceded by a strange trailer. There's no name for the film, just the date of release: 1-18-08.
1-18-08.com is found (don't go there now, some jerk snatched the domain and runs malware ads now), a site which has some scattered photos of the party from the trailer. You can move around the photos, and flip some over to get notes.
Slusho!, a Japanese drink company, is found thanks to its logo on a shirt in the trailer. The company's site loaded with Engrish about how Slusho makes you Zoom! You can't drink just six! It boasts of its secret ingredient, known only as Seabed Nectar.
Then comes the discovery of Tagruato, Slusho's parent organization. Tagruato is vague as hell about what their company is actually about, but what's most clearly documented are their deep sea drilling sites, and news of them sending a satellite into orbit.
The Myspace pages for various characters in the upcoming movie are found, mostly just the characters chatting like normal pals. One character's page, Jamie, hides a link to the secret site shared with her long-distance boyfriend Teddy where she records video messages to him. She knows he's off saving the world or whatever, but she's lonely!
Tagruato's website uploads an assurance to investors that the claims in the article from Ravaille Research Center are baseless, and its author is known for suspicious work. Googling RRC results in worried posts from families asking about the article, which says that cursory experiments with samples of Seabed Nectar show rapid cell growth, muscle growth, sharper eyesight, increased strength, and a sensation of full-body tingling described as a "wave of happiness."
People can buy merch of shirts from the Slusho! website. At first the packages are lined with Japanese newspapers, but over time some people find crumpled Tagruato documents with a hastily scrawled message to the recipient, from "The Whistleblower," trying to warn that employees have gone missing.
Tagruato's site is hacked, images of its CEO defaced. Hints in the images eventually lead to the site of the ecoterrorist organization TIDO-Wave, who are determined to bring to light the shady underbelly of Tagruato and Slusho. Most notable is this Seabed Nectar stuff is a closely-guarded secret, and definitely not FDA-approved.
Jamie's videos to Teddie are getting less sweet and more irritable. He used to be so good about calling, now he's gone radio silent. After weeks of nothing, Jamie opens a package from Teddie containing "evidence" and some kind of warning about Tagrutto or whatever, and frankly she's insulted he had to make up a whole song and dance instead of breaking up with her like a normal person.
At one point, calling Tagruato's contact line mentions a memorial service. TIDO-Wave's site uploads an article with more information: a famed marine biologist who'd been working for Tagruato's medical branch tragically died while camping with his family shortly after his retirement. It's rumored he made an incredible discovery right before retiring, but his computer, papers, and all research files are mysteriously missing.
1-18-08.com is slowly being uploaded with more and more photos, of soldiers and debris-filled streets and an explosion on some sort of ocean tanker. The photos show timestamps all throughout the night the movie takes place, and a timeline is starting to form. If you stay on the site for six minutes, a monster's roar can be heard.
The Whistleblower leaks a report of the various deep sea oil drills owned by Tagruato, noting that their most recently constructed drill not far offshore from New York has no report of oil whatsoever. So what are they doing there?
Tagruato's space division happily reports the success of their satellite in orbit. It even got a really good picture of a piece of a satellite falling. Some other satellite, not theirs. It's probably fine.
TIDO-Wave has been making plans to infiltrate the suspicious drill site off the coast of New York called Chuai Station, but when they arrive at the coordinates there's nothing there.
Soon after, reports flood in about a horrible altercation at the site; there are news reports in at least six different languages about the event showing footage of Chuai collapsing and sinking under the waves in a matter of minutes. Footage from workers trying to escape from inside the station shows armed Tagruato personnel on the site, and a recording from an escaping lifeboat shows massive chunks of metal debris launched out of the ocean after them as they escape. With knowledge that TIDO was in the area at that time, it's believed to be a terrorist attack. One news report mentions concern about dark shapes under the water shortly before Chuai sunk: if it's an oil leak, that could spell huge consequences for the surrounding area.
Jamie's still uploading videos to let Teddy know how Over Him she is. Him and his stupid games and his fake evidence. "Do Not Eat," huh, well, here's what she thinks about your stupid spy games, what are you gonna do, asshole? oh wow it tastes really good though. Damn she is FULL of energy. Fuck you Teddy she's gonna go PARTY and NOT think about YOU.
On MySpace, friends are congratulating their buddy Rob on getting an incredible job opportunity what will require him to relocate to Japan--he's supposed to help figure out how to market this super popular drink over there to Western buyers. His friends are planning a goodbye party on the night of the 18th.
So like. Know that 99% of this never appears in the movie. One character wears a Slusho! shirt, Jamie can be seen for a split second passed out on a couch. At the end of the movie, you can catch a distant splash as a piece of a satellite falls into the Atlantic. Most audiences don't notice or care and lose nothing having missed all of it. In fact, I didn't find most of this until AFTER seeing the movie.
but GOD did I think it was rad. For most people Cloverfield was just a generic monster movie that gave them motion sickness, but the marketing campaign gave me brainrot for YEARS after it faded from the public consciousness.
I have not and don't intend to ever care about anything else JJ Abrams has ever done but god DAMN if he didn't get me with this one.
so yeah there's your ramble thank u come again

Day 4 of writing for blade until he comes home.
Blade x fem! Reader
Minors/blank blogs dni
This mini 'series' doesn't have an official timeline, it's all over the place, aka tomorrow I might write their first meeting only to write their 1st year anniversary the next day. Just an example.
Warnings: implied violent thoughts, mention of murder/death, slight possessiveness if you squint, toxic-ish relationship cuz blade would not be able to keep a healthy one, implied past sex.
Could be read as yandere but not intended to be. So I'll tag it just in case.
In which you're scared but unable to walk away.
==
You can't help but walk on eggshells around him.
No name given to you, your brother basically shoving this 6'2 man to you, who looks so bored it could practically be his entire personality. Black hair that reaches below the waist, the tips red. His eyes are also a unique color, red with golden rings within. And he's your 'travel buddy', which is really a nice way to say bodyguard.
It's been two since then, no longer as naive as you once were, unable to ignore the shady business your brother partakes in. Unable to pretend that this man seated next to you on your own bed, is anything but a crazed criminal, his wanted posters being torn down as quickly as possible outside. But for your own safety, you still play the part of a naive young woman - barely any knowledge of the outside world yet a bit temperamental at times.
You're scared of being killed.
Hurt.
Tortured.
And so much worse and even so, you allowed him in, Blade looking around your room with some interest. Books scattered around instead of being placed in the bookshelf, stuffed animals decorating your bed's corners and the opposite side of your perfered sleeping spot. A computer desk that's way too cluttered with resumes and job sites, a few empty coffee cups from earlier that day -
You allowed this criminal into your room. The worst part was that he wasn't the only one - your brother counts, too. And Kafka as well. And maybe even you, just for being related to and associated with them.
Maybe you're even worse.
You allowed yourself to become involved both romantically and sexually with a wanted criminal, one who may go crazy at any moment. It's even worse when you bring up the fact he's Mara struck, if you heard right. The worst part is that you're considering alerting the authorities.
You only found out their names through the wanted posters and kept your mouth shut about it.
No wonder your brother was so paranoid about leaving you alone. He can't monitor your activities, your access to the internet, can't control where you go outside. But he couldn't exactly keep you locked up either, the guilt would kill him. But apparently the guilt wasn't enough, still forcing you to act like the perfect sister, never ask questions and play pretend.
He knows that you know.
You just hope that Blade doesn't.
"It's your first time being in my room, huh?"
And hopefully the last.
"Hm." Blade doesn't say much, arms crossed and doesn't say much. Or anything at all really, letting out a sigh after a few more minutes of silence.
You forgot why he's even here.
"Your brother is worried about you," he doesn't look at you and you don't look at him. Your attention is on the T.V, trying to tune out his voice, his smell, his very presence because if you don't, you might scream. Scream at him for keeping it a secret, for lying to you too, for making you fall for him when he's the incarceration of evil -
He hasn't exactly given you a proper reason to be afraid of him. But after reading his list of crimes, it's hard to see him in the same light, especially when there's video evidence, victim reports from those who managed to get away somehow. Just when you finally were starting to open up to him, getting to know him properly, you found out everything thanks to a single wanted poster shown on the screen for but a second before the channel was changed by a maid.
Everyone knew expect you.
"Is he now? Hard to believe considering he sent a man into my room instead of a woman." You don't mean to bite back, but it's either that or let the fear reveal itself in your voice. Your actions. So, you cut yourself off from him, reverting to your past self from a year ago when you first met him.
Masking your fear with annoyance. Convincing yourself he's annoying rather than scary. It barely worked and it's barely helping now.
"He knows I don't have any dubious intent concerning you. I don't see why you're so uncomfortable with this, considering we... 'shared' a hotel room once. Plus the door is open," he gestures to it with his head.
The memory of the hotel room brings warmth to your face. Whispered praises, soft touches, kisses that lasted longer than needed. You can feel him looking at you, now.
You still don't look at him. Your entire body is tense, and it's obvious be can tell. From the way he decides to look at you and take in your appearance, to how he raises a brow, not understanding just why you're like this.
You did a 180.
From sharing secret and gentle touches, hidden kisses in the hallways, lingering looks as you pass by each other. Now you can barely look at him, and you're aware he's confused and maybe even a bit hurt - if he wasn't using you. It was a perfect plan on his part, worming his way into your heart, insurance in case anyone were to find out and rat him out, you could be there to lie for him.
But everything felt too genuine and that makes the matter worse.
"It's stuffy in here," standing up, you smooth out your dress, the skirt all wrinkled now. You try to ignore the way Blade stares at you, from your face to the way your legs move, unable to settle on one place. You can't tell if you're shivering from fear or slight arousal.
Just like how you can't tell if he wants to love you or kill you at times.
You're scared that he's going to hurt you. Go crazy and kill everyone in this house. Hurt himself.
You both fear and love him, but the fear is stronger than the love.
Blade reaches out from his position on the bed, hands resting on your sides before bringing you closer. You don't resist, allowing him to place you between his legs, trying your best not to flinch. He hasn't hurt you yet, he's still being gentle, he's still -
"We're the only ones here right now. Everyone left to either go home or attend to their business." His thumbs rub circles into your hips, tilting his head as his eyes travel between your thighs and your chest.
Your body freezes over. He just said your brother sent him to check on you, and now he's asking for...?
"I'm... I'm not really in the mood." You squeak in surprise when he brings you down with him, straddling him as he lays on his back. Locking eyes with you, his hands travel lower until they rest on your upper thighs. He hums in content.
"I know. But it's the perfect time for you to tell me what's wrong." The way his fingers dig into your flesh unsettles you. The look in his eyes do as well, both possessive and cautious. How did you not notice this before?
"Just tired. I didn't realize job hunting could be tedious," you settle down on him, gently placing your hands on his lower abdomen like you always would, drawing circles on it. When unsure and scared, revert to old habits that led to positive results.
You could feel him relax to your touch. Like his worries were disappearing, but not fully. You try your best not to cringe when one of his hands clasps over yours. His hold on it is gentle.
You wonder if these same hands strangled someone to death, or if he just stabbed them. They're blood stained, and you had allowed them to touch you, pleasure you, comfort you. And now they might strangle you someday, if he doesn't stab his sword through your heart first. And yet, despite everything, it still feels nice.
"Hm. Something else is going on in that head of yours," his grip on your hand gets tighter. In the past, you thought he would do such things because he didn't want to let go. But now knowing his past, finally putting a name to the look in his eyes, you're sure he wants to hurt you.
You remember him saying how to love something is to kill it, and to kill it is to love it.
You're scared he was talking about you. You want him to use you if loving you meant killing you. Because then throwing you away wouldn't spell the end of your life. But loving you would.
Even so, it almost hurts to think that.
"I wish you would tell me your real name." You all but sigh out, dropping your weight onto him, chest pressed against his, head nuzzled into the crook of his neck. He can't see your expression this way, the way your lips quiver and how wide your eyes are with every passing second.
His arms enclose around you, and for once, you hate how touch starved he is. You hate how his touch both comforts and horrifies you. You can't make you your mind, but you're still scared of him regardless.
He doesn't say anything, but once again, his grip gets tighter and tighter until -
"I know that you know."

prediction for buddy daddies' ending
with episode one out, i have some ideas about how this show might end:
kazuki and rei take miri and run away from their criminal lives, starting over fresh
it was mentioned in both the trailer and the first episode that this line of work puts both the people that are directly involved and the ones they love in danger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kazuki knows this better than anyone - after all, it's revealed on the official buddy daddies site in his character bio that his wife died due to some shady business dealings.
based on the conversation he has with kugi, he might even be staying in his current role as a criminal contractor because he's hung up on what happened and possibly trying to get revenge on whoever killed his wife:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in rei's case, he's never really had a good connection with his family. in the trailer, his "father" says, "i'm not your dad, i'm your boss." talk about dad of the year. we know rei hasn't experienced love before, and i'm sure that means both romantic and platonic. when asked in the trailer why he kills, he says "it's just another job." i think that, paired with the fact that he's been taught since childhood how to kill, shows that he's not entirely invested in this assassin life - it's just all he knows. i don't think it'd be particular difficult emotionally for him to leave that world behind if he finds something / someone he cherishes and wants to protect (i.e., miri and kazuki)
i think with miri in the picture, both kazuki and rei will be able to get over their past traumas and realize that they don't have to be tied to this criminal life. they can all escape and start a new, safer life together somewhere else.
there's one thing that might make this difficult, and that's the fact that rei was born into this criminal world. his family brought him up to be an assassin, so there's a chance that they'd search / track him down if he were to run away.
so what could rei do to avoid this ?
why not fake his own death ?
he and kazuki could plan it all out, maybe even get kugi's help, and stage a mission gone wrong that results in, say, rei getting trapped in a burning building and dying there. they could get a body and place it there posing as rei, and if the remains where charred enough, no one would be able to tell whether or not it's rei.
with that out of the way, he and kazuki could start new lives and keep miri (and each other) safe from the dangers their current jobs bring. they could get regular civilian jobs, like kazuki becoming a chef / baker and rei working at an animal shelter. sure it probably doesn't make the same money as their assassin work, but it pays the bills. at least they come home safe to their beloved daughter and one another.

[cw discussion of animal illness/medical crises; emotional manipulation; talking about scams and scammers]
Jsyk: I do not and will not boost or reblog fundraising posts on request or when they’re directly linked to me by people who I don’t know, often people who don’t even follow me. Mutual aid posts are a big part of the social media ecosystem especially on tumblr but there are also plenty of scams that exploit genuine sources of affinity within marginalized communities (disabled people, trans people, people with precarious housing situations, etc) in an incredibly cynical manner.
I just received a request like this from a blog that was
all of two days old
filled with an apparently random selection of fandom posts and memes, all reblogged without any kind of tags or commentary, even a fandom name
...with no other kind of original posts whatsoever, not even shitposts or personal posts, nothing
not following me or anyone else I know
using an icon meant to evoke all kinds of immediate emotional reactions of affinity and sympathy — sweet-looking blue-haired smol bean picrew in front of the trans flag
The request itself could have been perfectly genuine — request for financial help with vet bills for a sick cat, "please help, save his life, I need to raise money in 2 weeks for surgery" — but it's surrounded by a thicket of screaming red flags.
Tumblr media
(Payments made using PayPal’s “friends & family” functionality aren't covered by purchase protection and cannot be reimbursed, even if the payment was made under false pretenses. Cool.)
This shit is incredibly shady and incredibly manipulative. Lots of stuff to evoke strong emotions and sympathy; repeated calls to action and a super short timetable to save a poor cat’s life — all of this stuff is plausible by itself but these elements of the request are not incidental. The request itself is calculated to provoke a sense of intense urgency -- worry for the poor cat, sympathy for the owner -- and a sense of shame if you catch yourself hesitating to donate or spread the word. (What kind of heartless person doesn't want to help a cat? Wants to let a cat die? Wants to kill a cat? What kind of bad leftist ignores a poor trans person's cry for help? I'm a trans person and a cat lover, and when my cat was in the hospital I was inconsolable.) By itself, urgency isn’t a red flag -- emergencies have a way of emerging suddenly, pets get sick, shit costs money -- but combined with everything else about this post it absolutely is one. In the comments on the post it only took one person saying “hey, watch out, this post has some red flags for a scam so I’d hesitate before reblogging it” for comments to be turned off entirely.
Do I know for a die-hard certainty that this post was fraudulent and the OP was running a scam? I absolutely do not, and I'm not interested in teaching anyone how to scam better either. But if you *do* have a genuine fundraising post for any cause, even an urgent one: don't do it from a nearly-blank blog and don’t message random strangers about it, even if you think it’ll get your post more traction. You have no way of knowing their financial situation or if they're in any kind of position to donate, or whether they themselves are in tough financial straits.
I'm not anti-fundraising or anti-mutual-aid -- people on this site helped me pay for top surgery without going into crazy medical debt, that would not have been possible without the goodwill and generosity of other marginalized people -- but I've also ignorantly passed on scam messaging and been tricked out of money I seriously needed, not just by strangers either. The vast majority of scams function through high-pressure tactics and emotional manipulation. This shit is 101-level social engineering and you're going to encounter it all over the place in life, not just on social media. Learn about social engineering, keep your eyes peeled for potential dishonesty, and don't fall for it or spread this kind of messaging around to victimize someone else.

Solarpunk work day
So I've spent the last two days pulling out invasive species! Which, honestly, is very tiring. I'm really glad we have a four-day work week, but even so, I'll be glad to get home and relax. I'm working with Wren and Bobi on this site which, before the mass migrations north, was someone's second (third?) home, and there had been some attempts to incorporate native plants into the landscaping, which is awesome. Unfortunately, who ever had been taking care of this land didn't recognize that Spruge Laurel (Daphne laureola, not a spurge and not a laurel, but a stinky, poisonous daphne) was an invasive species and had actually set up irrigation for some of them.
Now, of course, it's part of the climate immigrant resettlement housing network, and the land around the house is being transformed to be better habitat and to grow food. It's steep, shady, near saltwater (on a fucking cliff in fact, why did rich people think it was such a good idea to build on these crumbling cliff sides anyway? It still has about 30 meters until it gets to the house, but still), with native soils, so it's not a great option for so-called western-style agriculture, but it will grow our native plants quite well.
Pulling out the spurge laurel, and the Himalayan blackberry, and the english ivy, and the vinca, cutting down the english holly, and digging out the italian arum is only the first step. We need to help a healthier ecosystem re-establish. Fortunately, there's already beaked hazelnut, salal, service berries, dewberries, and evergreen huckleberries that are surviving despite the carpet of invasives... and the particular pruning choices made in the past. Who thinks it's a good idea to hedge prune a hazelnut???? As we pull out the ivy and others, we'll be replanting the native woodland strawberry, riceroot, springbank clover, native oxalis, western bleeding heart and western lily of the valley, which in addition to holding the soil in place with either be food for native animals or us. Or, as is the ideal case, both. There's a lot of culturally relevant foods in that paragraph, and it brings me joy to see them becoming a bigger part of the people's diets again. If you want to learn more about them, I suggest reading up on the ethnobotany of the Salish peoples. It's really interesting!
On Thursday we'll be renting a truck and trailer, and taking all the invasive species that we've pulled out to the folks who specialize in composting invasive species. Eventually all this stinky daphne will be a really nice compost for someone's vegetable garden. Which is a welcome and encouraging thought.
That's just this year of course- going forward for quite sometime will be regular invasive species removal, along with harvesting of nuts, berries, and roots, and pruning of the berry bushes. Can't do a controlled burn so close to housing, and it wouldn't work on the English ivy anyway. So manual pulling it is.

AI tries to explain: early Relena hatred
ChatGPT, explain why Relena Peacecraft of "Mobile Sit Gundam Wing" was falsely disliked by many fans in the early 2000s.
Relena Peacecraft, a central character in "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing," was indeed a polarizing figure among fans in the early 2000s and even when the series originally aired in the late 1990s. Several factors contributed to her initially negative reception: Initial Perceptions: At the beginning of the series, Relena comes across as a seemingly naive and idealistic character. Her initial persona as a sheltered pacifist and diplomat's daughter contrasted sharply with the Gundam pilots, who were more action-oriented and stoic. This contrast led some viewers to find her character annoying or out of place in a mecha anime.
For the early 2000s the truth is more shallow than that in that Relena is simply female and has a pink limo which upset a lot of ..."fans" who had never watched a single episode up to that point yet read loads and loads of fanfics and were suddenly confronted with the fact that Heero was not star-crossed lovers with Duo but might actually be connected to the female protagonist.
The argument is certainly applicable to a lot of people who watched the series later though and crapped on Relena's character because missing the point on multiple occasions has become an Olympic discipline rather than actually paying attention to what is shown.
I mean, I get that most people let preconceptions and media tradition sway their interpretation (like Relena having a crush on the mysterious new guy at school being the reason she follows Heero to the harbor when the series itself gives plenty of hints she's doing it because Heero is shady af and she's suspicious of him) but when they then form a negative opinion on Wing that is completely baseless because they didn't understand plot points, it destroys their argument and makes them look silly. Especially when it is coupled with an air of superiority.
You wanna rip Gundam Wing to shreds? Go right ahead, bro, just please put some effort into it.
Contrast with Gundam Pilots: Relena's character was often juxtaposed with the more action-driven and complex Gundam pilots. Her early interactions with characters like Heero Yuy, who were dedicated to their mission and often displayed little emotion, created a perception that she was a hindrance to their objectives.
Oh my goodness, I have actually seen this argument in the wild. I had once gone through hate sites to compile a list of accusations people threw at Relena back in the rowdy days of Gundam Wing to compare to more recent takes (spoiler: not much has changed) and I came across stuff along the lines of Relena "getting in the way of everyone's missions, creating problems for Noin, Milliardo and the others and endangering them."
ChatGPT, you impress me with your blanket statements going in the right direction.
I take issue with "more action-driven and complex" though. Compared to Relena's complexity most Gundam pilots are as flat as a pancake. They all have their depth, mind you, but Relena has waaaay more stuff happening and a lot more character development.
Initial Helplessness: In the early episodes, Relena found herself in vulnerable situations and required rescue by the Gundam pilots. This portrayal of her as helpless or in need of saving added to the negative perception.
I guess we're back in fanfic land. Unless AI means the Cinq arc, but that's the late middle of the show and is a little more complicated than just that.
Shift in Character Development: Over time, Relena's character undergoes significant development. She evolves from a seemingly naive girl into a strong and independent character. Her journey towards becoming a more capable and determined individual was not immediately evident to some viewers who formed their opinions early in the series.
...This doesn't even make sense, neither in the context of the show nor as a general statement.
It is true that a lot of people like to form an early opinion of Relena they don't part with no matter how far into the show they get. In many cases it's a decidedly negative one and that colors their perspective and ruins their enjoyment of the show, especially during the Cinq arc because that one is all about Relena and I have seen people scream for those episodes to end during their watch. Which, not gonna lie, amused me since she's the female protagonist so it's a given she'd get a lot of screentime.
The main problem with the Cinq arc though is that many don't recognize Relena's genius in how she handled the whole situation. The Cinq arc isn't just Relena preaching pacifism to the world at the most inopportune time where Romefeller is razing cities to the ground with Mobile Dolls. It's a political move that presents an alternative to Romefeller who claim that peace can only be achieved through them and their military presence. Cue a bunch of pacifists showing up.
Cinq's fall was not a loss per se. Relena surrendered publicly, with the whole world watching, especially the colonies who manufactured Mobile Dolls for Romefeller at the time. You think following that Dermail made Relena Romefeller's head representative for funsies? She had backed him into a corner. He had lost public support, the peaceful colonies had witnessed what they had contributed to and even people inside Romefeller were starting to grumble about him. He was scrambling for damage control, forcing Relena's hand and desperate to build Libra to have a giant space laser that will keep people in line should they not obey him.
Crap later hits the fan for him when Relena turns the tables on him and the colonists take control of Libra.
Complex Morality: Relena's pacifist stance and commitment to peace are central to her character. Her ideological beliefs sometimes clashed with the actions of the Gundam pilots, leading to a moral dilemma in the story. Some fans may have initially disliked her character due to this moral tension.
Tumblr media
Such a pacifist.
Different Expectations: "Gundam Wing" is part of the wider "Gundam" franchise, known for its complex political and philosophical themes. Some fans may have had expectations for a more traditional mecha anime and found Relena's character and her focus on diplomacy and peace less appealing in comparison.
If this is AI talk for UC fans crapping on Relena because she isn't Sayla Mass and doesn't pilot anything then it's weird. By now there have been so many iterations of Gundam shows with the "princess" character not piloting a mobile suit (Relena, Kihel, Lacus, Marina, etc.) that no one watching Wing for the first time expects Relena to do so. Expectations for a mecha anime? Even watching The Vision of Escaflowne I never expected Hitomi to hop into a guymelef.
AI, what are you on?
Character Growth: As the series progresses, Relena's character becomes more relatable and her determination to create a peaceful world resonates with viewers. However, this character development took time to manifest and was not immediately evident in the early episodes.
You said that already. It didn't make sense the first time and it's not making sense now either. Who expects full character development in the first two episodes? ò_ô
It's important to note that over time, many fans came to appreciate Relena's character for her growth, complexity, and her role in exploring the series' themes of war, peace, and morality. She went from being disliked by some in the early episodes to becoming a more well-rounded and respected character by the end of the series. Viewer opinions about characters can often change as the story unfolds and characters undergo development.
Save the preaching.
The rest is correct mostly though. There are many out there who hated Relena when they first saw the show but found her tolerable to actually badass on a second rewatch after a couple of years had passed. It wasn't the end of the series though that made most people like her but Endless Waltz instead.
You still get an F for not mentioned rabid shippers at all, AI. That crap was an actual problem in this fandom. Thank Goodness that's over.

Hawks didn’t have to kill Twice
Meta: Necessary 1 and Hawks inner conflict 2 (Warning: spoiler Heavy and very Long post, images and writing)
(Sorry for being so late to this topic, this Meta took a long time to make and update with current plot points. Also permission is given to Re-post (not rewrite) this Meta anywhere/any site)
Necessary: Sedation and backup options (1)
It wasn’t “necessary” for Hawks to kill Twice and by extension not justified either. Hawks could have used a sedative on Twice to capture him or at the very least rendered him unable to be a threat for an extended period of time.
Within the story and overall context of Bnha, Hawks should have been able to do this quite easily, especially compared to what he was already doing in story.
Momo can create some form of drug so powerful that it could knock down Gigantomachia given enough time, obviously something so powerful wouldn’t be needed to knock out Twice but the point is that Momo’s powers are based off of things that already exist in their world, things that she has to know the components of to create. So things like an agent that can render someone ineffective/unconscious do exist in Bnha.
Tumblr media
A drug of this size ^ was eventually able to knock down Gigantomachia, so surely something much smaller should be able to do the same, and in much quicker time, to a normal human like Twice.
Hawks was being observed at the time he was acting as a double agent in the MLA, so it may have been difficult for him to obtain such a sedative without notice, but that line of thinking doesn’t really add up with what we see in the story.
Hawks uses the Destro books to warn the Heroes about the impending threat of the LOV/MLA and he does this by marking/highlighting certain words and sections of said books.
Tumblr media
He literally tells Endeavor to read those specific parts and despite being observed in some form, no one thought any of that was suspicious enough to do anything about.
Tumblr media
So either Hawks wasn’t being observed that thoroughly or those watching him were very incompetent, I’m thinking it’s the former.
Hawks is a Hero, primarily a fighter but also a pretty fair rescue hero as well, if the Destro book warnings flew under the radar then I don’t think anyone would have found it very suspicious for Hawks to obtain a sedation drug/tool and keep it on his person, if ever needed the excuse could simply be that such a thing may need to be used to render a frantic or injured civilian immobile in order to rescue them.
Is that legal for heroes? Not sure but I don’t think it would have been discovered or mattered that much in Hawks’s already very shady situation.
But if it did need to be hidden and couldn’t be discovered, like for instance if Hawks’s person was searched and he didn’t want such a thing to be discovered in the first place, then what?
This wasn’t a problem either as Hawks was able to apparently sneak in a very noticeable and fairly sized recording device.
Tumblr media
(This was cut from the anime as far as I know (for some reason??) and only shown in the manga.)
The device itself wasn’t even a bug, shown in size by being scaled to Hawks’s hand; a sedative injection could fit in such a device of that size. The concept isn’t so far away from the Quirk erasing bullets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Scaled to size the injectable device/contents is about the same size as the recording device Hawks brought (easily snuck in) with him.)
“A villain who refuses to be knocked out” is a part of Hawks’s reasoning in his decision to kill Twice, but Twice is still just an ordinary human being aside from his Quirk, the ‘sedative option’ logically was more than possible and definitely would have had the desired effect of either completely stopping the threat of Twice’s Quirk or at least severely undermining it.
Why wasn’t better backup prepared on the heroes’ side?
The hero commission and the overall hero side never had much of a problem using the students in the war, there wasn’t even much protest against this course of action, Midnight herself even justifying it by saying that Kaminari knew what he was getting into (which given the situation I very much doubt) and that no one else can do this because his specific Quirk is needed.
Tumblr media
This instance/battle is important for more than Kaminari’s big hero moment and confirmation of his feelings for Jiro, the heroes had intel of Kaminari’s specific chosen opponent, “The Amplivolt villain” a high ranking member of the PLF, who’s power is very similar to the young hero’s quirk in the absorption and manipulation/discharge of electricity.
Tumblr media
Kaminari fulfils his role in this specific battle, a success because the heroes had obtained Intel on this specific opponent, the only logical line of reason being that this Intel must have come from Hawks, being the heroes source.
So why wasn’t this same logic applied to Twice? Or even to other villains?
Hawks confronts twice and shuts down a sad man’s parade in an instant, as well as pinning him down:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now leaving aside the Hawks/sedation point, what happened next with Dabi’s entrance into the fight and using his powerful fire Quirk to push Hawks into a corner is often used as justification for Hawks’s killing blow, placed at a severe disadvantage and doing anything to prevent Twice’s escape.
It’s a fair point at first but looking a little deeper I don’t think it stands up as a whole when going back to the Kaminari battle and later Chapters in the Manga.
Inasa Yoarashi, Quirk Whirlwind, introduced during the hero licensing exam:
Tumblr media
The scene depicted above shows Inasa using his wind Quirk to lift and manipulate a large number of people and debris (rubble), here using it for saving/rescue but could also reasonably be used in combat against a large number of opponents.
And later in the Manga this is exactly what happens:
Tumblr media
Inasa uses his Quirk to great effect against the clone parade.
While true that this wasn’t enough to fully stop the parade in its entirety, in the Hawks/Twice situation it would have been more than efficient in containing twice, and even more than that would have subverted Dabi’s threat as well.
Though Dabi’s flames are more powerful than Shoto’s, there’s no reason to assume that Inasa’s quirk couldn’t have thrown off the flames similar to what happened during the Exam. And if that’s not enough of an edge in this fight, there’s one other person who’d be ideal:
Tumblr media
Mina Ashido, Quirk Acid, apparently very fire proof. (This was really cool; I wish more had been done with this aspect of Mina’s abilities.)
Mina’s fire resistance paired with her physical skills/mobility would be a great asset in a fight against Dabi, could it defeat him? Probably not, but when taken all together: Hawks easily defeating twice before the parade can form, Inasa being backup in case this failed to contain the clones, and if Dabi showed up the pairing of Inasa and Mina together having pretty good odds against Dabi with their Quirks naturally countering his, it’s a pretty good plan.
But was it possible given the timing and circumstances? I think it was.
Tumblr media
The licensing exam was common hero knowledge, or at least government knowledge, the picture above showing Mera, a worker for the Hero Public Safety Commission, overseeing the event and directing it. And then was present later at the Remedial Course in the same position.
A hero (definitely a high ranking one) could have obtained information on the students and how they performed during, with Hawks and how well connected he is through hero society (doubly so through the hero commission), this should be easy, either by being present or viewing recorded info.
Mina’s resistance to fire wasn’t shown or mentioned until it was used to get through Dabi’s flames, but given her facial expression (lack of fear/surprise), it seems fine to assume that she didn’t just run into the fire and hope for the best that her Acid Man could take it. That’s a reasonable line of thought right? Though not revealed in present or flashback, there must have been some point before this where the ability was tested, because the scene wouldn’t really make sense otherwise.
The two being at the battle would be the next issue but given how quickly Tokoyami reached Hawks’s vicinity riding inside Fatgum, part of the first few waves of heroes advancing to the Paranormal liberation headquarters, traveling by running (Fatgum was doing the running, not slow but definitely not a hero known for his speed) on the ground, then entering the building by flight to get to Hawks to help him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s also reasonable to assume that using Inasa’s ability to fly and carry others (Mina in this case) with him, the two could have reached the building, entered inside and gotten to Twice’s location at the time or even before Dabi had reached them. I feel there’s evidence for this because Inasa was able to beat Shoto Todoroki in terms of Speed in their first meeting, Shoto who can keep up with Deku and Bakugo.
Official Bnha Wiki Entry: The practical exam consisted of a marathon race which Inasa narrowly defeated Shoto in.
The heroes were already willing to put the students on the front lines to increase their odds (Kaminari), and the knowing of the student’s abilities was there to be known if looked for (Solidly proven in Inasa/license exam, less so in Mina ashido but still feasible).
Was there enough time to consider and prepare all of this? Definitely.
Hawks had more than a month, I think the timeline provides even more time than that, to obtain and plan anything that was needed for the coming conflict.
So all that being taken into consideration, why wasn’t any of this done? The Sedative option or the increased backup (Quirk counters) on the heroes side? Hawks isn’t stupid by any means so why wasn’t this thought out? I think the answer was given in one of the first descriptions of Hawks and his character:
“Hawks the hero that moves too fast.”
Tumblr media
Hawks moved too quickly, not considering the full scope of his options in dealing with twice. The tools and strategic moves were there, he just didn’t make use of them. So looking at all the details, every character and scenario as a whole, Hawks didn’t “do what he had to do” and the death of Twice wasn’t necessary.
Hawks’s Conflict: past and present (2)
I was never a big fan of Hawks but I do see that his character is very complexed and layered, less so and being more straightforward in recent chapters but maybe that’ll change soon.
Hawks was conflicted during his confrontation with Twice but just as deeply as the fight or the nuance of the situation was Hawks’s inner conflict.
Tumblr media
The confliction of the current self and the past self, the government spy and the child hero.
Some say that Hawks never intended to take Twice alive and that his intent was never to save him, which is true.
Tumblr media
If Hawks really wanted Twice to back down from the fight (a fight Hawks claims he doesn’t want) then why would Hawks mock Twice like this?
It’s like he was trying to goad Twice into a fight in this scene because what other reason could Hawks have for saying it?
Tumblr media
In the scene above Twice consistantly uses the word “us”, refering to those like himself who’ve been left “to the wolves” by hero society and heroes, by extension also talking about his closer friends in the League of Villains.
His friends who Hawks made no mention of trying to help at all, despite knowing how much Twice valued frienship and loyalty. There was no way Hawks could have seriously believed Twice would turn his back on the LOV, even if it was to save his own life. Twice confirms this in his own words later and Hawks isn’t surprised at all.
Tumblr media
(Also side point: Twice was definitely not going to be given a fair shot at rehabilitation anyway, Hawks had no position or power to guarantee those words at all. Hero society has never been known for its nuance or understanding, a good example being evident in how Gentle criminal was treated after his arrest.
Gentle criminal was barely what could be considered a villain, even the police admitting as much in the interrogation after Gentle’s capture at UA. And from the way the conversation ended in the chapter it seemed like Gentle was going to be given a second chance or at least some form of lenience, for the tame nature of his crimes and for turning himself in.
But that clearly didn’t happen.
Tumblr media
Gentle Criminal was put in prison, incarcerated alongside others who are clearly much more violent offenders than he ever was. Them not knowing who Gentle is at first look does call into question how much contact he had with the other inmates but that really doesn’t make it any better even if he didn’t.
Gentle criminal’s reasons for stopping the other inmates is a nice sentiment, but considering that he wasn’t much of a villain to start with and how he was treated before/after his arrest, the message falls a little flat. That the downtrodden must fight and suffer for the sake of a system that doesn’t care about them and only rewards them after they’ve “done the right thing” which really translates to fight for the system.
Looking back at Twice and the crimes that he had already committed, coupled with his mental state, and the fact that Hero Society is not in any way nuanced, it’s hard to see Hawks’s words of rehabilitation and a second chance if he comes quietly as anything other than a lie at worst or a delusion at best (I think it’s the latter.))
Back to Hawks
Some others say that Hawks did intend to try to save Twice, in his own way or at least make the attempt, which looking at those points made does seem true at the same time.
Tumblr media
Hawks did say that he didn’t want to fight Twice and his expression does look conflicted leading to the impression that what he’s saying is his truth.
Tumblr media
And Hawks did save Twice from Dabi’s flames, protecting him, the action itself is undeniable.
Put together this is why there appears to be so much conflict around these scenes, because both points of view are by evidence true.
And the reason why that is I think, is because Hawks himself is conflicted at his core, his origin and present.
Allmight describes great heroism present in heroes like this: “There are stories about every hero, how they became great. Most have one thing in common, their bodies moved before they had a chance to think, almost on their own. And today, that’s what happened to you.”
Sir Nighteye gives a very different description, calling such heroism madness of its own, especially in Allmight and Deku.
Hawks embodies these statements or rather he did.
Tumblr media
Hawks did have that same Heroic ‘instict’ to save others, to be a Hero in its purest form, wanting to be a bright light shining for others.
But that was who Hawks was, not who he presently is.
Tumblr media
Only a vestige remains of Hawks’s true desire to save others, as evident by how he did save Twice in that instant of Dabi’s attack and that’s the conflict.
Tumblr media
People are shaped by their experiences and what they are taught to believe, dictating most of their actions. Hawks was raised/trained/manipulated from a very young age to be an asset for Hero society, so much so that the possible deaths of innocent people are something he’s meant to shrug off for the sake of the “greater Good”.
Tumblr media
Hawks goes along with this, part of which included the High-end vs Endeavor fight, an instance that if Endeavor hadn’t gone “Plus Ultra!” or if the Nomu had taken the time to finish him off, could have resulted in an unknown number of hero and civilian deaths.
That uncaring willingness to sacrifice the lives of others, even those you claim to care about, to achieve a greater goal.
The manipulation of a young child to believe and act a certain way into adulthood, while de-valuing everything else and using them as a weapon against your enemies.
This sounds familiar right? The Master(s) and the student.
And in the end, due to Hawks’s own lack of planning, his conflicted inner selves, the manipulation/conditioning that he’s been through all this time, and the present situation that it all resulted in…

So while I would say that what happened was partially Hawks fault, I wouldn’t say that it was his entire fault, because when someone is made to believe in a certain way of doing things, even more so when it’s since childhood, it can be extremely difficult for them to see and consider options outside of that Box.
End + Afterword
But then scenes like this happened:
Tumblr media
This ^ is not a good thing, no matter the framing (though the anime does make it more clear as a negative), because this line embodies a central (likely fatal) flaw in the hero side.
“Optimistic to a fault” isn’t going to help things, the aspects of society that creates villains and wrecks heroes.
Tumblr media
Lady Nagant was a hero (Assassin) that worked for the hero commission, operating during Allmight’s “Era of Peace” killing more than a few innocent people.
And they were (presently) innocent people, corrupt heroes whose crimes were never clearly stated and villains planning on committing “acts of terror” also never really described.
And no matter what their acts/crimes would have been, discreetly assassinating them to maintain a false facade of Peace and flawless justice, hero society was right to be called a phony illusion by L. Nagant.
Though the hero commission was wounded by a clone of Re-destro, it isn’t gone, Mera the blonde Commission worker from above is currently acting head.
Coupled with this scene:

This ^ probably isn’t a good thing either, again despite the framing, because nothing has been done to prevent the faults of the past from reappearing in the future.
How does this relate back to Hawks?
Hawks, like most of the other heroes in the series, can’t accept the fact that there are big problems in their society and way of doing things.
And the only change they do seem willing to accept is the kind that benefits them:
Tumblr media
This ^ scene here is…mostly a good thing, though with some very important parts missing.
Ochako’s speech was very sweet but while it did inspire the civilians to help (which was really just letting the heroes stay in their own shelter and not abandoning a kid that has fought to protect them all this time), the speech was still centered around the heroes and what they need, not any other victims of hero society (although Ochako did consider that inwardly and later, that was good).
Getting to the final point of this meta: Just like Lady Nagant who came before Hawks and probably like another downtrodden, easily manipulated child that will come after him (If Deku really does succeed and bring it all back), Hawks is a part of the hero system that does the right and wrong things for the sake of saving others but because of their inability to accept the darker truths of that system and it’s failings, they’re not really saving anyone at all.
(Will make another Meta expanding on this, the Villains/hero society/civilians and the Quirk singularity Theory at a later date)
To be continued…

Wrong Order (Y/N AU)
Tumblr media
So, for a while I’ve had this little AU idea in my head. Taking a leap here, please be nice to me ;_;
Introduction--
Basically it takes place long after the Pizzaplex burns down, several years. Fazbear trying to get some money back from their failed endeavors decide to bring back the ‘ Special Delivery’ option, hoping to make a quick buck from refurbished animatronics. One being the Daycare Attendant.
You’re sick having a hard time moving about and taking care of yourself and suddenly you remember an ad for the service, deciding to check it out you began to look through the catalogue thinking a Freddy would be the best option. You rent the bot for a good week for an extra hand and the delivery box arrives the next day, gotta hand it to Faz Co they might be shady but at least they have fast shipping.
Oddly enough the truck seems to speed off without doing much more then putting the thing in your home and throwing the manual at your face, rude! But you have your bot and you just want to get back into bed and have the bear make you some food, since it said he would know how to cook.  Taking a quick look at the manual you flip through the pages about starting the animatronic up and soon you’re opening the box only to pause....this...this isn’t Freddy. No the bot before you is not a bear, it’s not even designed after an animal! Those jerks sent you the wrong animatronic!
You don’t remember seeing this one on the site, when calling the phone operator tells you that they did send you a Freddy and that the Daycare Attendant had been discontinued. Wait-Daycare Attendant-But before you can question further you’re cut off.
Well great. Somehow your phone no longer connects to the service. Having no other choice you begin to prod around until you figure out the ‘on’ button is on it’s chest. It takes a moment but the bot springs up out of the box and does a little dance introducing himself as Moon, the nighttime attendant!
But it’s...daytime.
Oh dear.
---
Basically the two are swapped, Moon now operates in the day while Sun operates at night. Moon seems to roll with it while also being a bit confused, often trying to put you to bed in a plethora of ways during the day. While Sun is absolutely worried thinking they’re broken and tries to play with you all night.
In this AU the world has become quite used to androids thanks to robotics becoming more and more life like, it’s not odd to see the average person with a low grade model but they’re not everywhere.
Being unable to contact Faz Co any further you really have no choice but to keep this silly anxious jester bot who seems to have a problem with his coding.
Tumblr media
Somehow they both carry their signature candies and refuse to tell you where they keep them.
