STORY POINTS

Life is a lot easier when you're born with your best friend. Carrie always had Christine and Christine always had Carrie.

They were around each other so often that it was easy to confuse the two of them. While it hurt Carrie in the beginning, both of them realized quickly that they could take advantage of it.

They played pranks on everyone. Some of them were a little mean but they were bored. Everyone would confuse them anyway so what was the point of being nice?

The only person who could tell them apart 100% was their older sister, Hope. She held the weight of their parent's expectations and she took good care of the twins. They respected her.

There was always some tension there but on a deeper level, the twins always cared about and would protect Hope no matter what.

Carrie always had a love of building and sketching. She'd spend her time in class doodling buildings on sitting and drawing city maps. She loved the design of them -- the intricate lines and hidden structures within the walls.

She knew instantly what she wanted to do when she and her sister made it to Europe for college... She wanted to be an architect.

It all became that much better when Christine decided to be her engineer. They could be a power duo for their entire lives and that was always what she wanted.

They studied diligently in Vienna and spent their off time living it up throughout the continent, experiencing everything they could get their hands on.

Eventually, they became very successful women. It was wonderful. They were doing great -- but their love lives took a bit of a toll.

Carrie met Irelia at a gala and they hit it off. Everything was so natural, so perfect, so sweet... Until she saw how smitten Christine was when she introduced the two of them.

She'd give up anything for her sister to be happy. Anything. Because she deserved it. Her happiness over her own every single time.

They got married and things were good! She had what-ifs stuck in her head every day since but Christine was so happy. It was worth it... Until one night, Irelia drunkenly kissed her instead of her sister.

Drunk herself, she figured it was a mistake. It had to be. It didn't help the what-ifs... But it couldn't happen again and her sister could never find out. It would break all that happiness she saw and she couldn't let that happen.

Months would go by but then they would banter and she would kiss her again. And again. And again. Every single time, it was the same. Carrie would say they couldn't do this and things would go back to normal again.

Until finally, after what seemed like the longest amount of time for Carrie, Christine was finally the one that Irelia hit on.

She wanted to say it was a complete relief that it was all finally over... But it wasn't. Her sister was inconsolable and Irelia was completely out of their lives. Even married to her sister, Carrie could at least see her. It was all over now.

Carrie honestly didn't believe she had to say anything about their past experiences. It was over now and Christine saw that she was cheating. That's all that mattered.

In her head, she believed she had done everything right in letting her sister believe that her marriage was perfect until that moment. That her sister was as perfect as Carrie believed her to be and the good memories would remain untainted.

The two of them moved to America after being commissioned for a huge project and figured it was time to check on Hope too. Time would go by without correspondence but not this much.

They returned to the town they had always been dying to leave and now were stuck there like everyone else.

Both are very kind and charming, and also pretty shy growing up. He preferred staying at his parent's side, especially during tours. He loved seeing what his father did for a living and loved getting the walk through of backstage and adored copying the dances in the curtain. He was always welcome at the studio and running around with Joey and Lance's boys, Jackson and Carter. His arrival was anticipated every day after daycare. Noah would sit in his father's lap during the recording process and it amazed everyone else, Josh's multitasking skills. Noah could never not make his parents proud. He loved singing, just like his dad and often wrote songs with JC, his first being a 30 second song called Mom Made Spaghetti, a hit with his dad's friends. Josh would indulge in his son's aspirations and record these songs to put on a burnt CD for him to hand out to his parent's friends and family. Noah and Josh were very close in his early years. His son helped Josh mature and get himself out there as a man. He found himself being much more a father figure to others as well, being more family oriented and serious about his work. Noah learned how to play piano with the help of his dad when he was four, and Emma oftentimes found her boys sitting at their grand piano late at night when one or the other couldn't sleep. Music was a constant in the Chasez household. When Noah was fifteen is when he started gaining traction online for his music and blew up with what seemed overnight. A gen-z icon to many.

DOB: July 24th 2000 Age: 25 years old Hometown: Glencoe, Illinois Nicknames: Jay, Jere S/O: Audrey Hagan Kids: None Best Friend(s): Marie Nichols Aesthetic: Jeremy is a lot more like his mother compared to his older brother. He is a lot more go with the flow than Noah and Josh, and that's okay. There was constant mayhem when Emma had time off of work and she was left alone with her baby boy. Many times, Josh would come home from the studio and the house was a mess and there in the middle of it was his young son and hyper wife. They were always doing something together. Whether that be cooking, painting, messing around on the piano or guitar, or just bouncing their legs on the couch watching a movie. Whatever it was, there was always movement with those two. Honestly, it was something Josh admired so much from his wife. It gave a healthy balance between the two of them, Josh bringing the calm to their family and Emma bringing the spontaneous, chaotic side. When Andrew Chasez was born, Emma quit her job in order to stay home and take care of the little Chasez boys full time. She had chilled a bit by that time, struggling to keep all her rowdy boys in tow. Jeremy could never have enough though. He would be outside by the lake skipping stones until his dad came to carry him to the dinner table. Jere just had a hard time keeping still and letting himself be bored. Each family member took time out of their day to tend to Jeremy's hyper needs. Emma would colour with him in the mornings, Noah would play hot wheels with him before dinner, and Josh would get him settled for bed with a story while his wife fed their youngest son in bed. It was difficult to manage at some moments, but Emma and Josh wouldn't trade their chaos for all the peace in the world. Besides, once his little sister, Sophia, was born, he had a new friend with similar hyperactive tendencies. That's when Emma and Josh questioned their thoughts on starting a family (jokes!). Double trouble those two were.

They now had 3 boys under the age 5 and Josh was trying to kick start his solo career after a gruelling long tour away from his family. Andy always brought light into their lives though. He was a very smiley baby and would giggle at nothing. It was sort of a joke that he could see ghosts, until he got older and gained some good old imaginary friends, then it became creepy. Now, because his dad was always at the studio growing up and his mom had her hands full with three young boys, he spent a lot of time at his Aunt Melissa's house in the city. He was very close with Lola, and was always catching his mom watching them through the window. He didn't think too much of it. Andrew loved travelling with his family and really enjoyed sightseeing with his dad specifically. They would always run off together and go look for boats on the water of wherever they were staying. That was fun for Josh. His son was obsessed with boats and sailing. His wife, Emma, was absolutely terrified of the sea and would never go out on the water, passing down this phobia to her two oldest sons. Andrew and Josh would go down to the lake in the early morning to go sail paper boats together and it was their favourite memories together. Then they would walk up the path to Emma sitting on their back porch, reading a book, sipping her coffee, and two breakfast plates on the table waiting for them. Even now, with Andrew being 22 years old, he stills gets his dad up early when he visits home to go and sit by the water together. They don't even have to talk, sometimes sitting in silence was better than words. He is also known for taking his younger siblings on trips with him, give his parents a break. Quinn and Cole are obsessed with him because of his sporadic vacations.

DOB: December 19th 2005 Age: 20 years old Hometown: Glencoe, Illinois Nicknames: Soph, Sophie S/O: Ashton Ross Kids: None Best Friend(s): Maribel Holden and Delaney Lynch Aesthetic: The sociable girl she was. Sophia could not stop talking for the life of her. Even as a baby she would babble herself to sleep. In kindergarten she was always told off for not paying attention in class and yapping with her friends in the back. Those friends are her life-long friends, Maribel and Delaney. The three of them were inseparable. Not only did Josh and Emma have their hands full with their own children, but now two adoptive little girls who live down the road. Each weekend they were rotate who's house was the sleepover host, but by the time they reached middle school and home lives got tougher and in the way, Sophia's home seemed like a good go-to. It wasn't uncommon for either parent to have to stop the noise and giddiness coming from their daughter's room in order for anyone in the house to get some sleep. When Maribel and Delaney weren't at the house, Sophie was hanging out with her older brother, Jeremy. They both offset each other's excitable personalities. Soph and Jere were always getting into some mischief together and were each other's partners in crime. Nonetheless, Sophia was a very likeable soul and people flocked towards her openness and kindness. She made friends extremely quickly (though Mari and Laney were her closest) and teachers loved her. She was always willing to help out and was an overachiever like her mother. In high school she was captain of the girl's volleyball team and soccer team, student council president, number one honour roll student, and later her class' valedictorian. Her uncles were there to cheer her on at every single one of her events and would even take her and her siblings out for ice cream so her parent's could have a little "alone time". Speaking of her siblings, she was the best older sister in the world (shocker with her past, I know). She loved her younger brother Ryan especially. He looked up to her for everything and she loved playing baby with him when he was first born. He just naturally took a liking to her and it was adorable to her. She loved showing off Ryan and Maddie at school events when they were just tiny babies in her mother's arms. Sophia was a very proud older sister, still is.

DOB: January 6th 2010 Age: 15 years old Hometown: Glencoe, Illinois Nicknames: Ry S/O: No One Kids: None Best Friend(s): Braedon Howell and Dominik Newman Aesthetic: The funniest kid you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting. He has such a strange sense of humour and it'll only make sense to a small fraction of people, lucky for him that includes his family. It's not too sure if he has stories or just a funny way of displaying them, either way he is very entertaining while talking. His parents used to laugh at his overuse of hand gestures during conversations, and it hasn't stopped since. Ryan is also the biggest picky eater too. Even at 15, he has yet to truly expand his palette away from just pasta and peanut butter sandwiches. It may be a comfort thing, but it has always made dinner easier on Emma so she doesn't mind too much. His funny way to life was almost used as a cover up for Ryan though. He was pretty insecure for majority of his life and needed away to make himself appeal to others. Now, Ryan Chasez is not a bad looking kid, in fact many would say that he was blessed by his parents with his appearance. He just didn't see it this way. He had surrounded himself with the cool kids like Braedon Howell and Dom Newman in middle school and now feels the need to give himself a purpose in this group. Josh had noticed a shift in his son around 7th grade and wanted to check up on him, but Ryan wasn't having it. He just simply wasn't the kind to open up about his feelings the same way his father had gotten his older brother Andrew to open up. Ryan would just laugh the worry off and make it seem like nothing. Sophia was the only one who could get a crack on the kid. She had this motherly way to her, so that when she would talk to her baby brother, he just let the flood gates to his brain go loose. Josh was never more grateful for his happy-go lucky daughter in his life. He was so sappy watching his little girl help her brother out in a way that he knew needed to happen for a long time. Ryan's parents were forever proud of their kids and how fortunate they were to raise such good people.

DOB: January 6th 2010 Age: 15 years old Hometown: Glencoe, Illinois Nicknames: Maddie, Mads S/O: Emery Mullen Kids: None Best Friend(s): Sydney French Aesthetic: Daddy's girl alert!!! Madeleine was attached to her dad by the hip the minute she came into this world. She adored everything her father did. He loved having a little girl who was as obsessed with as he was her. It didn't help that baby Maddie was Emma's carbon copy. She had the biggest brown eyes and a sweet smile that made her parent's swoon. Madeleine was very popular for her gorgeous looks from a young age. People started to take note that she was just the most beautiful child in the world. So many would stop her mom or dad on the street just to compliment them on having such a stunning daughter. Boy did that boost her confidence up to 100%. Of course, she heard it all the time from her parents and nana and papa, but it was different when it was strangers. Maddie somehow managed to convince her dad to let her do state pageants when she was in 2nd grade, and she would always make it pretty far in the race. Her mom was there to make sure everything was going smoothly while her dad sat in the audience with her siblings. It came as a shock to Josh and Emma when they found themselves being pageant parents, but how could they say no to their little girl, their last daughter. When she was 9 she was scouted by a modelling agency who was looking for younger models they could train. Her mom and dad were against it, and wanted her to wait until she was older and could grasp the responsibility a bit better. Madeleine was infuriated by this decision. She didn't talk to her parents for two weeks after that confrontation. When she was 14, she was scouted once again and was finally given the option to agree or not. She with a doubt signed those papers in a heartbeat (not without mom and dad reading over them first). She especially looked up to her brother's girlfriend, Lola, for advice in modelling. They became the best of friends and Lily helped her throughout her journey and put some words in for her to land bigger gigs. Maddie is pretty famous now on her own, and everyone is anticipating for when she's old enough to do some major things in the fashion industry.

Quentin Peter Chasez

DOB: May 14th 2017 Age: 8 years old Hometown: Glencoe, Illinois Nicknames: Quinn, Q, Quinny S/O: No One Kids: None Best Friend(s): Hayden Kirkpatrick Aesthetic: Another easy-loving baby. Quentin never cried, never got angry, and instead chose to just sit and stare into space. He is very kind and thoughtful, known to share everything. Quinn is best known in his house to feed everyone before himself. No one knows where he got this from, maybe watching his mom dish up dinner for everyone before herself, but it's an interesting thing to watch play out. The only time you could catch Quinny cry was if he couldn't say goodnight and love you to his family members before bedtime. Another weird ritual he has, and this includes the Chasez' dog and cat, Marlo and Kitty, and each and every one of his stuffed animals. Sometimes goes as far as making his parents call up his grandparents to say love you night. Him and his twin brother are polar opposites actually. It's the cutest thing, because even as babies they would bicker back and forth. As babies, they were not yet planned and were raised very carefree. His mom and dad had gone through this time and time before and knew what to expect and knew not to overreact to little things in their babies lives. He and Cole definitely got the softer side of their parents which was nice.

Cole Gabriel Chasez

DOB: May 14th 2017 Age: 8 years old Hometown: Glencoe, Illinois Nicknames: C, Cece, Coley, Coleslaw S/O: No One Kids: None Best Friend(s): Hayden Kirkpatrick Aesthetic: The youngest and final Chasez was, surprise surprise, hyper as hell. Like previously mentioned, he and Quinn are complete opposites. We have Quinn who prefers to stay quiet and empathetic, and than we have Cole who is much more rowdy and upbeat. Cole practically lives at the playground down the street, where he meets up with his just as energetic friend, Hayden Kirkpatrick. Josh and Chris have recently found themselves setting up playdates every afternoon after school to let their boys get their jitters out before it's time to pack up and go home. Cole is still a very good kid, just has trouble finding an equal balance. There's not much else to say about Cole Chasez.

Electromeme Adventures

Season 3 Featured on: SiIvaGunner's Highest Quality Rips: Volume AI

Ripped by ChickenSuitGuy, Jack the Ripper, Lil Hairline

Man, collabs of this scale just always make me happy. Be it fusion collabs, or just collabs of any sort, or just one ripper having fun - or somewhere between it all like this rip, its hard not to adore rips that just throw all caution to the wind for the sake of maximizing the volume of jokes. Electromeme Adventures is a fantastic celebration of Geometry Dash as a whole, and is easily the game's best rip on the channel.

Though I haven't kept tabs much with the game itself, Geometry Dash always felt like the sort of game that really embraced and rewarded the creativity and dedication of its users with its user-created levels. It feels sort of like the Friday Night Funkin' of the 2010s, if I were to put it one way - and Electromeme Adventures is but one of several thousands fanworks that have kept the game going for so long. The bar of quality is so immensely high given just how talented many of its level creators are, yet ChickenSuitGuy and company matched it with an excellent display of quality. It's such a classic Season 3 rip with jokes like Despacito and Sean Kingston ebbing in and out with jokes from the early days like Soulja Boy and Grand Dad - yet those old jokes never rest on their laurels, and are polished to an absolute sheen. Jokes intersect and blend with one another in absolutely insane ways - the vocals of Beautiful Girls and Boulevard of Broken Dreams will be alternating in harmony with one another, as the instrumental carrying over from 10 seconds prior is built on the drums used in We Are Number One - the amount of layers that joke stack to in Electromeme Adventures is frankly absurd.

Its the kind of rip that, even as I'm sitting here cross-referencing the wiki's list of jokes whilst listening to it in real-time, there are so many small things I'm still only just noticing hidden in the mix. Like, at about a minute in, the vocal sample of MatPat introducing the Game Theory channel seems to at first just be a silly form of beatdrop/transition - but the actual Game Theory intro theme then begins playing quietly in the background, arranged with samples from Scatman's World! None of the jokes are left-field turns or sudden new jokes either, it's a barrage of jokes and themes you're already familiar with yet overlaid with one another in absolute sensory overload.

The appeal of "meme mashup" rips like this such as, say, Memey Hell, does absolutely feel a bit limited in just how dense they are - you've given so little time to actually process a joke or appreciate a harmony before things move on, and I feel like the currently ongoing series of Fusion Collab do a better job letting individual ideas shine for longer. Yet few of those have been looped on my playlist for quite as many times - its impossible for me to listen to Electromeme Adventures just once at a time due purely to how much damn STUFF is crammed into it, and the excellence its all pulled off with. The finishing segment, melody-swapping the backing synth into The Flintstones before switching to Brain Power, really does just close the rip out in the most perfect way possible. AEW All Out 2021 Review

AKA The PPV that turned my brain to scrambled eggs

Miro vs Eddie Kingston

We start off with “Redeem Deez Nuts”. Beautiful. This match was good, but nothing to what the rest of the card would bring. It is a little sad now that I say that, but I liked how it eased everyone in. I’m sure this is not the end of this feud.

Satoshi Kojima vs John Moxley

Jon is on his bullshit here and made it turn very brutal very quickly. Overall, this was a solid match and a good intro to Kojima for the uninitiated. At the time I thought it could have afforded to be a little longer, but with no stakes and with what’s to come I understand.

We also get our first debut of the night, Minoru Suzuki. Moxley preceded to have a “punch fest” Suzuki, which was a little silly but exciting.

Britt Baker vs Kris Statlander

I feel that this match fit in a comfortable space, it didn’t need to be anything special. That being said, it had great moments. First, Britt breaking the fourth wall was great. Then the powerbomb scissor kick combination from Kris. Orange cracking, and by extension Britt cracking. All great. They were slightly clunky going into the finish, but I can excuse that because of how much energy they were putting in

Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks

WHAT AN INTRO FOR THE LUCHA BROS. I feel that was the start of an atmosphere that would carry the rest of the night. There were “Zero Miedo” chants before it even started. Right out of the gate, the Bucks tried to escape, which began them being overly cocky throughout the rest of the match. Which isn’t a surprise but still. This is also apparent when the Bucks attempted to demask the brothers, and from there the match quickly went hardcore. A shoe covered in thumbtacks can apparently produce a lot of blood.

Overall, this was the match of the night and the Lucha Bros deserve this title run for as long as possible.

21-woman Casino Battle Royale

I can’t breathe at this point, so much has already happened. Here we got a mild rest, with good feud references, Nyla Rose on her usual demolition path, and a hint of Diamante vs Swole. Then, we got Ruby Soho. Which is awesome!

But, I don’t think she should have won. Last eliminated would have been fine, but Rosa deserved a win here. I’m also just not a big fan of people getting such high-stakes wins on a debut. I will admit, the back and forth on the ring edge was very entertaining. Basically, good ending with the wrong winner.

MJF vs Chris Jericho

Do you ever just look at the TV screen and drool? Because that’s what I did. I was white-knuckling the whole way. Jericho just seemed to be having fun, and I’m happy for him. These two were going to put on a banger, we knew this going in, but the stakes did something great here. Some standout moves: MJF’s troll intro referencing Y2J, the partition tossed into MJF’s head, Jericho’s lionsault, and the false finish. Honestly, I didn’t like the false finish, but MJF is a master heel and the look on his face when they reversed the decision was WORTH IT. As was getting to see him tap.

Darby Allen vs CM Punk

This match came prepackaged with an impeccable atmosphere. You could go back and just listen to the chants and know the importance of this match. Overall, the moves were jumpy and clever. I could tell Darby was leading sometimes, but Punk was following well and clearly, has been ready for this. Case and point, Darby getting LAUNCHED out of the ring, which was probably my favorite moment. Also, go to sleep must have felt good for Punk. I need to watch old Punk matches now

QT Marshall vs Paul Wight

Okay, it’s nap time! But, we got to watch Paul beat people up for a bit, which was nice.

Kenny Omega vs. Christian Cage

If you had told me last year this match was happening I would not believe you. But, I’m so glad it’s true. Kenny being Kenny, with his slipperiness and cotton candy douche bag right behind him at every turn. One minute here comes a table, then there goes the table. Quite frankly, there were a surprising amount of table spots and added needed energy after everything that had already happened on the show. It also felt like a touch of old school coming out from Christian’s TLC days. Speaking of Christian, he is nothing if not fearless and seemed to go feral towards the end of the match. The high-angle cloverleaf looked genuinely painful BECAUSE it was rushed and sloppy. Like he was running out of time and doing everything possible. Then, “Don’t do this”.

There were 20 minutes. I was braced for impact. The first words out of my mouth when the bell rang was “If I hear Flight of the Valkyries, I will cry.” But no, it was the boyfriend of one of my favorite wrestlers and former half of the Big Top Tag Team Champions. Adam Cole came home. Frankly, I thought this was better. Adam Cole deserved to be here.

Then, Flight of the Valkyries actually did hit, and suddenly I was on the floor. I’m not even joking. I hit the floor, head in hands. Bryan Danielson. I’m still sitting here in a daze over this.

The raw emotion tonight, the environment AEW has cultivated, has lead to this.

Bravo, AEW. Now keep cultivating it. We have even higher expectations now.

We sampled, analyzed, and carefully recreated the original filter, echos, and spring reverb pre-owned, modified, and used by the legendary Osbourne Ruddock “King Tubby” – producer, studio engineer, and pioneer of dub reggae from the golden era of the 70s – from Alborosie’s personal vintage gear collection.

ECHOWUK: directly from federal studios, then King Tubby studio in Waterhouse Kingston, the MCI 2 track tape that was used to record and also to create the echo effect for most of the reggae classics overall and popular Tubby’s instrumental dub mixes.

SPRING BLING: directly from King Tubby studio in Waterhouse Kingston, the modified Fairchild Spring Reverb used by the Maestro himself in most classic records and dub mixes he recorded and produced.

FILTER MAN: modeled after Tubby’s so-called “Big Knob”, a passive high-pass filter with eleven frequency steps from 70Hz to 7.5KHz. This filter defined the sound of the entire ‘roots’ area of Jamaican music!

ALBOROSIE

Real name Alberto D’Ascola, he was born in the Sicilian town of Marsala, Italy. He formed the Reggae National Tickets, who regularly toured Europe during the mid-to-late nineties. As the Millennium approached, the Tickets performed in Jamaica and the island immediately enveloped Alborosie in its spell, prompting him to jump ship and take a job as an engineer at Gee Jam studios in Port Antonio – a tropical hideaway on Jamaica’s north coast where Amy Winehouse, No Doubt, and many other foreign and local stars liked to record.

“I just wanted to be close to the music that I loved, and that I couldn’t find in Italy. That is the main story behind my journey so all I want to do now is contribute to the genre and bring it to the next level – to carry the flag, or even just help someone else carry the flag”

In 2011, he became the first white artist to win the M.O.B.O. (Music of Black Origin) Awards in the Best Reggae Act category.

The Little Mermaid LIVE review

It was okay. Only three highlight was the original Ariel intro the movie, Amber Riley being cast as the eight sister and having a title card for five minutes of hearing her voice again on my tv, and Queen Latifah making Ursula her bish.

Meh okay was John Stamos I mean I’ll have a soft spot for Uncle Jesse. He did a good job for a forgettable character as the cook was. The added songs, I’m guessing are from the broadway play were unexpected and a bit jarring for me. Prince Eric singing in general, hard to get use to.

The Bad: Disney blatant plug for their streaming service and upcoming holiday movies. Shaggy being cast as Sebastian, why? Sean Paul is right here, Sean Kingston is alive. You know someone who can carry a tune.

Anyway just my two cents.

A Discovery of Witches Season 3 Episode 1 Review: A De Clermont Family Reunion

They may be magical creatures ruled by mystical rites, but when it comes to family, the vampires, witches and daemons are no different from the rest of us. Gather the clan together under one roof and pretty soon it’s all rivalry, resentment and stalking out of dinner in a huff. One brother doesn’t like his new sister-in-law, the youngest wants the eldest to move with the times. ‘You’re breaking an ancient covenant’, ‘You didn’t tell me I carried a genetic disease that turned my vampire children into uncontrollably vicious monsters’…  All the usual beef. The only difference is that the de Clermonts get to do it in all a stunningly lit castle over a glass of what must be excellent wine.

Season three got off to a mournful start as Diana and Matthew time-walked straight to poor Aunt Em’s death bed. Sept-Tours has never looked more melancholy than in the aftermath of Peter Knox’s assault. The Roydons’ return was greeted with emptiness and silence, and then the shouting began. Matthew raged at Marcus for not stopping Knox, Marcus raged at Matthew for centuries of lies, and Baldwin raged at it all, having all but lost his grip on the family.

Even for a bunch of cold-bloods, that de Clermont dinner was a chilly affair. Having banished the lesser immortals to Sept-Tours’ servant’s quarters, Baldwin presided over a meal of political clashes and veiled insults. Peter McDonald (replacing Trystan Gravelle, who was tied up with filming commitments to The Lord of the Rings) fitted the role of de Clermont patriarch like a glove. It was all there – the flash of vulnerability at each mention of Philippe, the pass-agg swipe at Matthew and Diana’s future children, his derisory correction that Knox hadn’t killed a woman but only a (nose-wrinkle) witch… This new Baldwin can stay.

McDonald’s character though, may not stay the head of the family for much longer if Marcus’ breakaway plan has anything to do with it. (Thank you, A Discovery of Witches for upping all of our Scrabble games with the word ‘scion’.) Gallowglass reminded Marcus that division isn’t new for the de Clermonts – this lot have been at each other’s throats for centuries.

And the cause? Then as it is now: bigotry and the refusal to accept difference. Philippe wouldn’t recognise Hugh and Fernando’s relationship, and the pain of that injustice has been carried for 700 years. Sarah and Fernando’s delicately written and performed scene about the longevity of grief was a tender reprieve amidst all the table-thumping going on elsewhere. If there’s one silver lining to the sad loss of Em, it’s that Alex Kingston is finally getting some real lines, and good ones too.

Em’s funeral was another tender scene, and more proof that all the good traditions lie on the witch side of the magical creature divide – the vamp stuff is always so bloody and bestial, while we still know barely anything of daemon culture. That wasn’t corrected even by the welcome return of Greg McHugh as Hamish, whose potential was wasted after making that big helicopter entrance and then speaking barely a line – the sacrifice demanded by having such a big cast, and so many grand locations.

Speaking of big entrances and grand locations, a round of applause please for the Venice speedboat, (imagine the waste if Deborah Harkness had set Congregation HQ in an entirely more practical commuter town. In this show it’s Glamour. Every. Time.). Whenever that ancient cabal meets, A Discovery of Witches gives fans a little Bond movie thrill as a creature glides through through that magical barrier, wearing a pair of extremely cool sunglasses. It was Agatha’s turn this episode, and the scene that followed lived up to the intro. Never ones for a quick chat and a doughnut, the Congregation dialled the tension up and voted Peter Knox out. Good riddance, obviously, but was that wise? Would they not rather have a powerful witch like him on the inside of the tent and pissing out, rather than on the outside pissing in? Time will tell.

Another Bond movie location arrived in Dr Roberts’ incredibly slick and stylish Imperial College lab (there was definitely some dodgy big pharma funding behind that). Christopher Roberts, played by Ivanno Jeremiah, exemplified the spirit of a true scientist by demanding evidence and when given it, adapting his understanding to suit. One bouquet of water-flowers and Dr Roberts was in. Secrets of blood-rage, he’s coming for you.

Coming for Diana and Matthew is a new threat in the form of Benjamin, a brutal killer with a sadistic side. Matthew sired him in a “most terrible calculation” and then abandoned him, Dr Frankenstein-style. Now one way or another, Benjamin’s unresolved daddy issues are about to become resolved. Luckily for Matthew, his wife’s a badass weaver whose magical powers no know bounds. I know whose side I’m on.
