A day in Tayvallich
Sunday 10th September 2023
Decided to go ashore for 10am church where we were warmly welcomed and treated to coffee and cake after the service! A slightly grey day in Scotland with glimpses of brightness, unlike the heatwave in the south, so set off for a walk to Carsaig beach and the Taynish nature reserve but rain shortened the walk and we returned to Trade Wind with some damp blackberries! We did enjoy a lovely meal at the Tayvallich Inn in the evening although it was pitch black getting back to the boat. The nights are most definitely drawing in...

From
From the bridge over the Tweed
A love swan glides
Upstream. A couple
Walk slowly together
Through the castle ruins
As tall trees whisper.
From the Coffee shop in Tayvallich
The  outboard won't start
He jerks the cord
Nothing catches
From the shore at Carsaig Bay one hot afternoon
Mum lies half asleep,
hands interlocked around
the little one, who rests
drowsy on her thighs. Dad
stretches into his wet suit
and steps gingerly across
the bouldered beach, into
the waiting water. Paddle
boarders pass languidly.
White butterfly flutters.
Sun warms the blue. This
too will pass but slowly.

Coorie House, Loch Venachar Scotland
Coorie House, Loch Venachar Scotland, Scottish Architecture Images, Building Restoration Scotland
Coorie House within Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park
22 Mar 2022
Architects: Cameron Webster
Location: Loch Venachar, Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, Scotland

Coorie House, Scotland
Coorie is a stunning, new, luxurious, contemporary, holiday home on the banks of Loch Venachar, within Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.
The house is designed by leading Scottish architect’s Cameron Webster for owners Dene and Debbie Happell. The building’s unique angular shape has been designed to maximise the outstanding views of the both Loch Venachar and the surrounding mountains.
Clad in black timber, the sculptural form is visually striking but equally at home in its landscape and surroundings. The upside-down home was created to maximise the panoramic views of the loch and surrounding hills from the living spaces, creating the feeling of living within the trees.
This is a place to slow down in, the rooms have been designed to feel welcoming and comfortable – to be social and enjoy the company of friends and family.
The first floor is an open plan luxury living / dining / kitchen with a covered balcony and cosy window seat nook, both angled in particular ways to maximise the views. You can watch Scotland’s weather whilst being protected from it.
The interior mixes a unique blend of restored mid-century modern pieces, cosy sheepskin rugs alongside reclaimed industrial lighting and distinctive artworks. Classic furniture pieces include Hans Wegner’s wishbone chairs, an Ercol dining table alongside Timorous Beasties fabrics. With a mix of Scandinavian cool, Scottish tweeds and vintage finds, the house manages to create a warm cosy and friendly atmosphere.
The lower floor accessed via a dark stairway, accommodates the bedrooms and was designed to be more intimate and cosy, with crisp white luxury bedding and linen, clever storage and stylish bathrooms.
The house is so well insulated it requires very little heating. The property’s green credentials are enhanced by an air source heat pump, underfloor heating, eco toiletries and wood fired hot tub with timber provided by locally fallen trees.
Externally guests can enjoy the garden and lochside or relax in the hot tub with a glass or two and observe a clear view of the stars.
The loch is at the end of the garden and you’ll regularly find the owners and guests swimming, sailing, SUPing, windsurfing or relaxing on the beach that forms in Spring / Summer. The area and mountains provide an outstanding backdrop in which to play and create your own adventure. There are numerous cycling trails and mountain walks all accessed from the front door.
The house was built in Winter 2021 and first guests arrived end December 2021. Coorie forms part of Loch Venachar Lodges which includes another three bedroom lochside house, Carsaig and a further three bedroom house is planned.
Whether cooried up in the window seat with a good book after an invigorating walk, relaxing on the balcony with a cocktail after a swim, or snuggled up in front of the wood burning stove watching a movie, the house provides the best refuge to experience the great outdoors

364am Bellanoch to Carsaig
364am Bellanoch to Carsaig
I catch the bus from Bellanoch and, as usual, I’m the only passenger. The driver recognises me from yesterday. “I’m not going to Achnamara today,” he says. I explain that’s OK, because I want to be dropped off at the Barnluasgan monument. He’s not sure where I mean, but says he’ll drop me off wherever I want.
So, I choose to get off at the Forestry Commission car park, the place where I saw the…

sphinxyvic replied to your photoset “Moy Castle, Lochbuie, Mull 1945 // 2019”
Oh! I’m so happy it’s real! I sort of knew it, but how wonderful to see it as it is now!
TOTALLY :) Also when I first came to Mull back in 2012 (completely because of IKWIG!) it had scaffolding round it, so it’s fab to see it now looking more like its old self.
If you like, you can check out the posts I did back then when I did my best to find lots of IKWIG locations:
Torosay Castle (Achnacroish)
Duart Castle (Sorn Castle)
Carsaig Pier
The Western Isles Hotel
and here’s the phone box, which is halfway up the hill from Carsaig Pier, next to the waterfall.
Tumblr media
What is amazing about the locations for this film is that when it comes to the buildings, not only did they use as many exterior shots as they could, Micky Powell and Alfred Junge recreated the interiors back in the studios at Denham (you can see from my post on Duart Castle more detail). There are subtle differences, but for instance, the bay windows in the dining room at the Western Isles Hotel are the same.
Any interior scenes with Roger Livesey (who was acting onstage in London at the time, and filming in the evenings) are at Denham, and exterior close ups of Roger are shot with back projections filmed on the island. As you can see from this post , Micky used a double for Roger for the exterior filming on Mull.
I love this film so very fucking much, and I love this island so very fucking much.

Portfolio plans
Studio portrait plan 1
for my first studio portrait I want to bring two photos together one of the moo and a portrait and I need to make sure I have a perfectly black background so the moon doesn't look out of place. I want the model to look like he/she is being illuminated by the moon so I will need to have a side lighting setup possibly adding  an additional light to fit in the dark spots on the body of the model. to take the photo of the moon unwell use my 150-600mm sense with a 1.4 times teleconverter to get the moon to fill the frame then I will bring the two photos together on photoshop to merge them, depending on the phase of the moon I might need to rotate it or manipulate it to give the desired effect.
Kit list portrait 1
7D Mark II, 24-105 F4 L Lens, 150-600mm sigma sport lens, 1.4x teleconverter, studio flash cable, X2 studio flash, X2 big soft box and black background.
Tumblr media
Studio portrait  plan 2
for my second studio portrait I'm going to try and recreate one of the first portraits I took the original portrait was of Simone holding some yellow roses with a white background and now I want to try recreate the photo with a black background and maybe some more lights because in the original photo I had one soft box above the camera I think if I was to have two soft boxes on ether side of the camera it might give nicer lighting by filling in the shadows
Kit list portrait 2
black background, yellow roses, 7D Mark II, 24-105 F4 L Lens, one or two studio lights, two big soft boxes, black background and audio flash cable.
Tumblr media
Macro plan
for my macro photos I want to try take photos of eyes. during my practical research I found out the best way to get photos of peoples eyes is to get them to lie down the ground and have the camera mounted directly above the sitter. for my location shots I want to try get a photo of a bug maybe a moth because someone I know has a moth trap and I could use that to catch the moths then use a macro lens to get the photos.
Kit list macro
Canon 7D Mark II, 100mm macro lens, macro tubes, fiberoptic light box, tripod and remote trigger.
Story telling plan
for my storytelling I want to focus on the plastic on beaches at my caravan and the effects that could have on the plants and animals in the area I plan on going out to a few of the islands in surrounding area of my caravan and trying to find the unseen plastics that gather on the beaches on theses islands and some possible was the locals could clean these relatively remote islands.
Location
Carsaig Bay across from the island of Jura
Kit list
7D Mark II, 24-105 F4 L lens, boat, waterproof bag and life jacket.
Wildlife photography plan
for this I plan to take some wildlife shots of birds up at my caravan because I know there are lots of birds up there due to its remote location there are a few common birds I see flying around and I have noticed sots that the usually land on to rest.
Location
Carsaig Bay across from the island of Jura
Kit list
7D Mark II,150-600mm sigma sport lens and 1.4x teleconverter and a tripod.
photo merger on film plan
for my photo merger plan I am going to ty it on film and for that I will need to make sure all the shots are planed in advance and I know what I'm going to shoot where I'm going to shot it and when I am able to go and do the shoot. I plan to use 2 roles of ilford FP4 and ill do 3 of 4 different shoots  each photo merge will be 4x3 and I will bleed each shot together.
Location
Carsaig Bay across from the island of Jura
Kit list
7D Mark II,150-600mm sigma sport lens, 1.4x teleconverter and a tripod and 24-105 F4 L lens.
