The holidays are hard, we can all be grumpy. But poor Cole. He's been waiting and waiting for Anne and where is she? Is she stuck in the snow? Flight delayed? I’m going to say Ransom. All Ransom ever wanted was a nice Christmas time. He wanted what they have in the movies. The lights, the tacky Christmas decorations, the loudness, most importantly the togetherness. The warmth. The lessons, and how love is what makes Christmas the best. He’s never had that. Never wanted for anything. And when he leaves abruptly on his family’s Christmas dinner, he wasn’t expecting to go to some filthy little diner. And definitely didn’t think he would see the most beautiful snow Angel he ever did see as his waitress.

You could defrost any chill in the room. You are the embodiment of pure joy. And you see he needs something more. What turns into shitty diner food and stale coffee ends up you giving Ransom a tour of your quaint New England town. And so so much more!

So I just found out that Poseidon is also the god of droughts and what are your thoughts on a child of poseidon with drought powers, a complete opposite to their more sea based children?

Oh! I knew this 🙌 I think it's related to him being the god of the sea/water, sort of like how Apollo is associated with healing but also the plague. I always find it funny when that happens 🤣

So for the kids who skew more to the side of drought, obviously they still have their sea powers. They're probably far more dry in tone, less empathic, less emotional. Maybe they're more prone to the earthshaker side of Poseidon as well, and the equine, to make up for the lesser interest in the sea. Plus earthquakes and horses are more land-based and a drought affects the land (agricultural loss, wildfires, increased sandstorms, etc).

In PJO canon, I'd want to say drought-based kids grew up more inland where access to a large body of water was difficult to come across. So it's less about internal nature (as with my interpretation of the freshwater vs seastorm Neptune babies), and more about familiarity and adaptation - sort of like how catci and other desert plants have evolved to handle long periods without water.

Powers that they have an increased capability for over their sea counterparts:

causing earthquakes! they can manipulate them on a small or large scale, but they have higher propensity. it's a little harder for them to cause underwater earthquakes tho (which. can become tsunamis btw)

dehydration - sort of an inverse of drowning a person in their own fluids, they will the liquids inside them to dry up at a rapid pace

as a subset of that, i think it would be so cool if they could pull a tantalus-like punishment with enough focus on someone. no matter how much you drink, you will always be thirsty, you will never be satisfied, you will be captain barbosa and his crew, turning skeletal in the moonlight

they can withstand higher and drier heats than their sea-preferred counterparts (for example, percy would be hanging off of carter in the desert, crying for water, while they're chilling and vibing, truly a cactus of a person)

similarly, they retain water better, and sweat less. their bodies need less fluid to keep going on (this makes them better at giving blood lol, stay juicy everybody!)

while most children of poseidon are capable of piling water in the air into something usable, the drought prone kids have picked up how to pull water/usable liquid from anything available, as dry climates may lack enough water in the air for it to be worthwhile compared to humid climates --- so they're more likely to pull water out of living things, pull water out of the ground, or even find water deep underground (well water!)

due to the above, they're more capable of causing inland floods, they can pull water out from deep in the earth and force it to surround areas that are devoid of rivers, lakes, or even high rainfalls - this isn't just because of the whole "god of floods" thing either, it's because after a long period of drought, sudden rains can cause flash flooding to occur, so they're good at making flood happens

heat generation! they may be able to make things hotter, and/or drier

they have perpetual black thumbs. they are... not very good at growing plants lol

finding/summoning horses. it might take a while, but if there is a horse, they will find it (like the horse version of a dowsing rod, which, lol, they're kind of the human version of a dowsing rod, i guess), and if there are no horses nearby, they will get one to come to them through ✨ vibes ✨

their version of a storm is a heatwave OR extreme rain. yes, they can summon hurricanes or typhoons, but those are much more ocean-based things. so forcing high and burning levels of heat that makes everyone stumble and sag, sweating through every inch of fabric they have OR extreme and heavy rainfall that practically drowns you where you stand and knocks you to the ground is more their instinct

lowkey i wanna give them sandstorms as well, since that can be an effective of long-period of drought, but. you know. idk how much greece was ever getting pummeled by sandstorms for that to be something they associated with drought. (egypt, on the other hand, set, my dangerous and beloved)

(funnily enough set is also the god of foreigners, so like, who knows, maybe he and poseidon struck a funny deal when one of his kids traipsed over there while wandering around)

Since I think the difference between sea-based Poseidon babies and land-based Poseidon babies is just due to their adaptation of their environment, I think someone who is sea-based could easily become more land-based after living in such conditions for a while, and vice versa. Sort of like accents, lol. You know, if Percy decided to up and move to the desert in his 40s, he'd adapt after an initial period of "oh my gods oh my gods where is the fucking water where is the ocean i am dying" lol. it would take him a lot longer to pick up on the accent of the land than if he were younger, and so he'd still maintain his "sea" accent long-term

Because of this, I think it would be really neat if, way back when, it was common for the kids to take a few months away from camp to go living in the desert for a bit so they could pick up some land skills - like a rite of passage for poseidon demigods. one of the older cabin members goes out with them to make sure they don't die, helps them hone into the skills they might not have tapped into before, etc and so on. The kids come back at the end of their outing, more well-rounded and capable of tapping into the opposite side of their powers, when and if needed. Some of the kids might repeat the outing more than once for funsies, but most of them usually just do the one time thing, and then practice their land-based powers on a smaller scale at camp.

If a land-based kid comes into camp when they're much older, they don't typically have to do the outing, but sometimes they'll go out, not to learn anything, but to help the others, since they'll essentially receive assistance with their sea-based powers while they're at camp (presuming every version of camp has been based near the ocean or some giant water mass throughout the years - if not, then it goes the other way around, where they take a few months to go chill out on a beach for a few months).

Additionally, just 'cause, here are the four types of droughts I came across while googling "drought causes" because, lol, I'm an island boy, I am not familiar with droughts and wanted to get some facts in that weren't high temps and low rainfall (source):

Meteorological: region-specific; occur when an area receives less rainfall than normal; often measured by comparing the current situation to previous years’ rainfall. Some locations are affected more harshly than others.

Agricultural: when there is not enough moisture in the soil to sustain the growth of crops. Crops need different amounts of water based on their level of maturity, so they can be susceptible to droughts at different times. For example, most plants require moist topsoil to germinate, but this could be less important down the line as the plant matures. So, the effects of an agricultural drought hinge largely on the growth stage of the plants.

Hydrological: when there is a lack of surface and subsurface water supply; detrimental effects can be most readily observed in watersheds and river basins; affect the entire water cycle, take longer to notice, and have effects less immediately obvious than with other droughts.

Socioeconomic: when the water supply is too low to support human and environmental needs; wreaks havoc on the supply and demand of crucial commodities like water, grains, fish, and hydroelectric power.

Established in 1962 in mainland Nova Scotia, Dan & The Dandelions have been a classic on Canadian and American radio stations alike since their debut album. Starting off as a folk quartet in the late 1950s, The Dandelions have come a long ways.

Frontman, Dan Miller, was born and raised in a Nova Scotian farm off the Bay of Fundy. Growing up the oldest of 4 siblings and having both parents pass away at a young age, Dan has always been quite aware of his surroundings and place in society’s food chain. As a boy, Dan adored the music of Hank Snow, Wilf Carter, and Patsy Cline, even naming three barn cats after them. After being diagnosed with autism in the 90s, Dan begins fighting and protesting for the better treatment of children and testing of adults that may have been overlooked.

In 1959, Dan formed a small folk quartet called Miller, MacLaughlin, Murray, and Nixon. It had two school buddies, Simon Nixon and Craig “Crash” Murray, and his life-partner, Pete MacLaughlin(married 2006). After Crash had left the group, the other three renamed the band and began travelling across Canada eventually meeting bassist, Blanc Monet.

Simon Nixon was the band’s drummer, an orphaned southern boy adopted by his aunt and uncle in Nova Scotia. Dan and Simon met at 9 and 10 years old in a one-room schoolhouse. “We met the December of 1954– Simon had never seen the snow before, he was like a cactus in a snowy tundra,” said Dan in his 1994 autobiography, Dan Miller; Maritime Boy, Guitar-Wielding Hero. Simon married Scottish paranormal-investigator, Anne Abercrombie upon finding out she was pregnant with their first child. The couple have three children, Lenora (later Lennan), Esme and Celeste.

Pete MacLaughlin, a multi-instrumentalist, son of the CEO of MacLaughlin Oral Care and later husband of Dan Miller. On top of that, Pete is a devote animal activist and gay-rights activist after being outed at the height of the AIDS epidemic. Miller and MacLaughlin had been together since they were teenagers, the two had met during the summer of 1958 and began dating in 1961.

The last member to join was French-Canadian bassist, Hugo-Michel “Blanc” Monet. When he first joined the band, Blanc could barely speak English and was taught by his bandmates. He is the younger brother of famous model and radio personality, Colette Monet, the siblings grew up in an apartment in Québec city. Before joining The Dandelions, Monet was married to Melvina Harris, the two had no children. After his divorce with Melvina, Blanc married fellow musician, Natalie Benoit in 1969, they had one daughter, Avril Monet. A decade after Natalie’s death in 1973, Blanc married friend of the band’s, Jael Levi in 1983, they have one son, Antoine Monet-Levi, and Blanc began treating Jael’s daughter, Juniper Levi like his own.

The only girl in the band would be single mother, protest singer, and women’s rights activist Jael Levi. After being forced to marry at 16 her verbally abusive dear husband, James Hall, mysteriously died (she killed him and was never caught) the next year. Levi had her first child at 18, refusing to let the child have her dead father’s last name she was named Juniper Levi. Jael began writing songs and met Dan & The Dandelions in 1966 after their second album hit the charts.

Their east coast roots have most definitely influenced the band, the usage of fiddles and even bagpipes and the lyrics and stories of maritimers being woven into lyrics. Blending country, folk, and rock into a genre of their own.

You know I had a little time in my life when I had an interest in plants vs zombies (more specifically battle for neighborvill) so like the way I was I had created a human version an au of sorts for them

Actually I had two both centering around my favorite plant nightcap (I love nightcap and mushrooms in general a lot!)

Anyways I don't draw them anymore so all art of it is old and I unfortunately didn't do everyone but for that au the plant name's were just codenames the team gave to each other in battle when not fighting they called each other by normal names

For starters there was Crescent being dubbed nightcap they were a trained ninja and the newest addition to the plant team they never really spoke outside of when being addressed but that was expected they were soft spoken, sweet and caring even if they accidently snuck up on people

Next was Carter being named Citron he was always sent on mission's as not only being the leader but also the strongest one there if you ask me he was a bit self centered and egoistical always acting on impulse instead of listening to what everyone else's words half the time it would jeopardize their missions

Sunny otherwise known as sunflower was the team's medic who believed in many ways of healing love, music, medical supplies, and actual plants why she was a bundle of sunshine! She wouldn't really go out on mission's with the others but after missions or midway through she would intervene to either save the wounded one's or supply them with new weapons she was always compassionate and believed in change her faith was unwavering

petunia (Garlic) and Cathy (Cactus) We're a sibling duo a scout team if you will they would often be the first one's to leave due to petunia's age she would only scout out where the zombie's were from a safe distance reporting back to Cathy and the other's Cathy was always serious and would never let her little sister out of her sight not even for a second sometimes she wouldn't even let petunia out on mission's due to the danger

Picky (Acorn) and Fredrick (Oak) were more of a student and mentor why picky was one of two other twin siblings making them triplets his siblings were Paige and Parker they each specialized in different fields picky would go on mission's with Fredrick to help him out although being the oldest member he was the strongest and the wisest

That's all I gotta say I don't really like some of their designs then again I did say that it's old art so it's bound to look like that I might change their designs or maybe not because my interest in plants vs zombies has dialed down

Surprisingly this is 2022 art so it may not have been that long ago but there was certainly an improvement

I didn't have any new art for today so I felt I might as well post this so untill then

B A C K G R O U N D 

Blake was born and raised in Newark, NJ. His parents were Timothy and Lisa Carter. They owned a small bagel shop called, “I Bagel To Differ” that was known among locals as the place you had to stop by. He grew up an only child and always wanted to be a big brother but had tons of cousins he played that role with. 

Around the age of 10, Blake started noticing his parents were growing more distant. His father was always gone and his mother was drinking herself away on the couch. The spark that was once there between the two parents faded. Eventually, Timothy never came home and he never contacted Lisa or even Blake, ever again.

Blake and his mom couldn’t afford their own housing so they moved in with his Aunt and many cousins. He finally achieved the “Big Brother” role, taking up responsibilities to help around the house; making breakfast and dinner, taking the kids to school, helping them with after school activities and homework. It didn’t take long for Blake to adjust to the new setting, he actually liked the change. He didn’t feel as lonely anymore, picked up new hobbies and a love for piano and theater. 

Blake found that being in theater helped block out any negative thoughts or feelings about his life. He had a distraction and something to keep him occupied. He didn’t care to ever be the lead role, he liked being behind the scenes and creating the masterpiece. He did play piano pieces for their shows a few times after being begged by the director and he always received awestruck faces when his music was played.

Around the age of 19, Blake moved out of his Aunt's house and into a duplex with his friend Steve at Capemay. He still visited on the weekends and worked shifts at his moms bagel shop or made late night spaghetti if his cousins asked him to. 

Currently he’s living downtown and plays piano at an open mic bar while also streaming video games as a daily job.

Ramble time: Headcanon with a hint of RidLocke and Old West films

Ever since Kalagan was defeated and hauled off to prison, and that wonderful finale magic show, it was time for life to return to ‘normal’

Aka school, but only after the three weeks of mandatory therapy sessions.

But, when all was said and done, Leila was ready for public school, Theo to private school, and both Ridley and the Golden Twins had their tutors.

Poor Carter however, was a conundrum.

At first, the Vernons’ had the idea to have him enroll with Leila, but a certain red floofball offered a different solution: Let him be tutored by Ms. Parkly first, and then let him join Leila after he “catches up.”

She wanted to “keep an eye on him”, and the parents agreed to the opposite. As in Carter keeping an eye on the head of the Chaos Trio. So an agreement was met, and Carter would be picked up by Ms. Parkly and Ridley at the same time Leila left for school.

Carter would of course ride on Ridley’s wheelchair, per the latter’s request. Something about the world’s shortest hood ornament.

Anyways, Carter proved to be quite knowledgeable in the introductory lessons, meant to help measure where he might need the most help before public school. Math and English were alright, but Carter had a strange fascination when he was tested about the Wild West, what Ridley herself was currently learning. He knew of the guns, the towns, and the culture, but what inspired him the most was a film set around that time: “The Slackers”

The film itself was an old color film, filled with grand orchestra and bright characters. It centered around a gang who pretended to be lazy or unemployed homeless folks in tents, only to rob towns blind or bloody. A few members who stood out to Carter were:

J.J. Oliver, the protagonist gunslinger who was given the most focus in terms of the gang. His silver revolver matched his gunmetal gray eyes

Darius Rodriguez, a tall, thin sniper who was skilled with a Winchester rifle who could shoot a fly of a cactus needle

Landon Bradford, a comedic demolitionist who handled dynamite a little too carelessly

Sheriff Franklin, a stalwart man who stood for the law, and his heart shined like his badge

Aaron Rivera, the gang leader, and a pastor with holy vengeance. Armed with his swords of justice; two ivory pistols with St. Mary engraved on them.

Intrigued by Carter’s fanaticism with the film, Ms. Parkly did her own research on it. She found out it was based off the biography of one of the gang members granted amnesty for leaking out the whole story; Mason Smith. She was able to get the book, but no picture of the man. In fact there was so little information about him, you’d think he was made up.
