Mark Grayson is an average 17-year-old, except for the fact that he is half-alien, and his dad is one of the most famous superheroes in the world. His average life is turned upside down when he finally gets superpowers of his own, but as the saying goes - with great power comes great responsibility.
RELATED: 5 Prime Originals We're Looking Forward To In 2020 (& 5 We're Not)
Based on a comic series penned by the brilliant and imaginative creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman, Amazon Prime's hit animated series Invincible is not only chock full of action-packed fun, but it features a broad array of famous guest stars including Jon Hamm, Seth Rogen, Mahershala Ali, Clancy Brown, and Ezra Miller. The main cast is just as star-studded with familiar and beloved voice actors, many of them a nod to other superhero franchises as well as The Walking Dead.
10 Sandra Oh (Debbie Grayson)
Tumblr media
Sandra Oh is a Canadian-American actress best known for her portrayal of Cristina Yang in Grey's Anatomy. More recently, she stars as Eve Polastri, a security services operative that gets caught up in the tangled web of a unique cat and mouse game with an assassin in Killing Eve.
Oh takes on the role of Debbie Grayson, a firm but loving wife and mother. She often serves as a rock for her family when things fall apart. She doesn't have superpowers, but she does have good advice and kind words for her husband and her son.
9 Steven Yeun (Mark Grayson/Invincible)
Tumblr media
Steven Yeun's first, major claim to fame was from his work as the lovable and brave Glenn Rhee on AMC's The Walking Dead. Since he met his fateful end at the hands of Negan, Yeun has been busy. He can be found voicing in Voltron, appearing in Sorry To Bother You, and he recently made Academy Award history with his Best Actor nomination for his role in Minari.
RELATED: Steven Yeun's 10 Best Roles Outside The Walking Dead, Ranked (According To IMDb)
Yeun plays Mark Grayson, an average high schooler who desperately wants to be a hero like his father. When he gets his wish, he realizes that the life of a hero is not as simple as he thought it would be.
8 Zazie Beetz (Amber Bennett)
Tumblr media
Playing Domino in Deadpool 2, and Sophie Dumond in Joker, Zazie Beetz is not a stranger to comic book adaptations. Outside of the superhero world, Beetz has also worked with Donald Glover on his hit series, Atlanta.
Amber Bennet is a headstrong, young high schooler who doesn't need anyone to take care of her...but she finds it kind of cute when Mark makes an effort. Amber is Mark's friend and love interest, though currently, their relationship is strained because of his superhero work and his friendship with Atom Eve.
7 J.K. Simmons (Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man)
Tumblr media
J.K. Simmons has also been an important part of the superhero universe. He expertly brought J.J. Jameson to life, the fast-talking editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in the Sam Raimi Spiderman franchise. An Oscar-winning actor for his work in Whiplash, Simmons has also been in Oscar-nominated films such as Juno and La La Land.
RELATED: J.K. Simmons' 10 Most Memorable Roles, Ranked (According to IMDb)
Nolan Grayson is Mark's father, also known as Omni-Man, one of the most famous superheroes in the world. He protects the innocent and upholds justice...or does he?
6 Andrew Rannells (William Clockwell)
Tumblr media
Andrew Rannells is a man of many talents whose work has spanned from Broadway to film to television. He has voice acted in various popular animated series such as Big Mouth, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon. He also played a recurring role in HBO's Girls, and led Trey Parker and Matt Stone's comic musical, The Book Of Mormon.
William is one of Mark's high school friends who tries to keep him out of trouble, but with Mark's new super-powered life, he's bitten off a bit more than he can chew.
5 Zachary Quinto (Robot)
Tumblr media
Zachary Quinto is a talented actor who first began to receive notice from his sinister portrayal of the superpowered villain, Sylar, in NBC's Heroes. He has gone on to helm the incredible role of Spock in JJ Abram's Star Trek franchise and has also had recurring roles in American Horror Story.
Quinto lends his voice to the character of "Robot" in six episodes of Invincible season one. After the Guardians meet their demise in the first episode, a new band of superheroes must be created, and Robot is ready to help form a team.
4 Mark Hamill (Art Rosebaum)
Tumblr media
Mark  Hamill will always be Luke Skywalker to Star Wars fans young and old, but his experience spans far outside that galaxy far, far away. Mark Hamill first voiced the Joker in the early 90s and continued to play the chaotic Batman villain for 19 years. Hamill hasn't thrown in the towel for voice acting.
RELATED: 10 Of Mark Hamill's Most Iconic Roles (Outside Of Star Wars)
He recently voiced the killer doll, Chucky, in the popular horror reboot, and also had a role in The Dark Crystals: Age Of Resistance. Art Rosebaum is the Edna Mode of Invincible. He is the man that superheroes go to for their costume needs, and he is more than happy to find the perfect one for Mark.
3 Gillian Jacobs (Samantha Eve Wilkins/Atom Eve)
Tumblr media
Gillian Jacobs has had starring roles in Community and Love, as well as a recurring role as Mimi-Rose Howard in HBO's Girls. Prior to that, she showed off her voice-acting chops in the Monsters vs. Aliens animated series.
Jacobs takes flight in Invincible as the amazing Atom Eve, a fellow high schooler and a part-time superhero. Friends and partners in world-saving, Eve catches Mark's eye, but her tumultuous relationship with Rex Sloan keeps a potential romance out of arm's reach.
2 Jason Mantzoukas (Rex Splode/Rex Sloan)
Tumblr media
Known for playing loud, brash, and politically incorrect characters, Jason Mantzoukas is a big name in comedy. He has been featured in live-action television series including The Good Place, Brooklynn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation, and The League. He can currently be heard as the voice of Jay in Netflix's adult animated series, Big Mouth.
True to his name, Rex Splode has the ability to make objects explode with just his touch. Cocky and a bit of a playboy, Rex gets himself into hot water with his big mouth, and when his girlfriend catches him in a compromising situation with another super.
1 The Walking Dead Cast (Various Superheroes)
Tumblr media
Robert Kirkman wrote the graphic novels for The Walking Dead and later helped bring the series to life on television. He is doing it once again with his dark yet hopeful superhero series, Invincible.  The cast of AMC's hit, dystopian drama is clearly near and dear to his heart, because many of them are featured in his new show.
Fans of The Walking Dead should listen carefully when watching because guest stars include The Walking Dead alums such as Khary Payton, Lauren Cohan, Ross Marquand, Lennie James, Chad L. Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Michael and Cudlitz.

Netflix plumbs the delusional depths of the secret life of Walter Shitty in artless white trash soap opera #TigerKing: Murder, Mayhem & Madness (2020) #Review

ALL MONTH
National Immunization Awareness Month
Zoetis Itchy pet Awareness Month
Zoetis encourages pet owners and veterinarians to discuss skin allergies during its second annual Itchy Pet Awareness Month. Since 2013, itchy dog veterinarian visits have increased 50% and 7.5 million dogs were diagnosed with pruritus (itch) in 2019 alone. As more pet owners are home during COVID-19, they may notice their pets are itching and scratching on a daily basis. Frequent scratching can often indicate a more serious skin condition. With that in mind, Zoetis is raising awareness about this common medical condition, and calling on pet owners and veterinarians to discuss the severity of this issue and how treating it faster can significantly improve pets’ lives. As dog owners become more aware of their pets’ skin allergies, Zoetis encourages them to visit ItchingForHelp.com to learn more and to take the itch quiz to identify “when an itch is more than just an itch.” Veterinarians can download the Itchy Pet Awareness Month Practice Toolkit at ScienceofStrongerBonds.com/resources to promote the importance of skin health in their clinics this August. Social media posts, emails to send to clients, downloadable posters and much more are also included in the toolkit.

    INCREDIBLES 2 (Brad Bird, 2018)
Brad Bird waited fourteen years to give us a sequel to his 2004 masterpiece and he didn’t disappoint.  Fun, exciting, and full of action, laughs, and deep themes.
THE MIGHTY DUCKS (Stephen Herek, 1992)
A Disney sports classic.
SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY (Ron Howard, 2018)
Not a great Star Wars movie, but has some good stuff in it, particularly Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian.
    CRITERION CHANNEL
Full list of everything coming to Criterion Channel in July can be found here.
*The Criterion Channel does things a little differently than every other streaming service.  The Criterion Channel, a wonderful streaming service that focuses on independent, foreign, and under-appreciates movies, doesn’t just throw a bunch of random movies to stream.  They get more creative, by having categories like “DOUBLE FEATURES” or “FILMS FROM…”, giving us curated lists of films that somehow blend together or feature a specific artist.*
CERTAIN WOMEN: Criterion Collection Edition #893 (Kelly Reichardt, 2016)
A top-notch cast of Michelle Williams, Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern, and Lilly Gladstone highlight this beautifully quiet drama from the great Kelly Reichardt.
  DOUBLE FEATURES
  From Art House to Grindhouse
The Virgin Spring (Ingmar Bergman, 1960)
The Last House on the Left (Wes Craven, 1972)
One of the most interesting double features Criterion has ever had.  The Virgin Spring is one of Ingmar Bergman’s most celebrated films, while The Last House on the Left is Wes Craven’s brutal rape-revenge flick.  Should make for a wild viewing.
    The Hard-Boiled Way
Gun Crazy (Joseph H. Lewis, 1950)
The Big Combo (Joseph H. Lewis, 1955)
Two hard-boiled Joseph H. Lewis film noirs.
  Auto Focused
Bullitt (Peter Yates, 1968)
Grand Prix (John Frankenheimer, 1966)
Two classic 60’s action films focused on the thrills behind the wheel.
MARRIAGE STORIES
Over a dozen movies focusing on messy, chaotic, dysfunctional marriages.
Come Back, Little Sheba  (Daniel Mann, 1952)
The Bigamist (Ida Lupino, 1953)
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Richard Brooks, 1958)

5×2 (François Ozon, 2004)

Full list of everything coming to HBOMax in July can be found here.
    BLADE TRILOGY (Stephen Norrington/Guillermo Del Toro/David S. Goyer, 1998/2002/2004)
Wesley Snipes plays the half human-half vampire superhero in this dark and bloody comic book trilogy.
    BLAZING SADDLES (Mel Brooks, 1974)
A legendary comedy and maybe the best film of Mel Brooks career.
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (Steven Spielberg, 2002)
Underrated in the Spielberg cannon, Catch Me If You Can is a fun, twisty, expertly crafted con movie featuring a pair of great performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
    THE DEPARTED (Martin Scorsese, 2006)
Martin Scorsese won his long-overdue Oscar for this cat-and-mouse crime film about a cop who infiltrates the mob and how a mobster infiltrates the police.
    THE EXORCIST (William Friedkin, 1973)
The greatest horror movie ever made and one of the greatest films ever made, period.
    MAGNOLIA (Paul Thomas Anderson, 1999)
Paul Thomas Anderson’s wildly ambitious L.A. tale is one I’ve been itching to rewatch.
    MARS ATTACKS! (Tim Burton, 1998)
Tim Burton channel’s 50’s schlock films with this star-studded alien invasion movie.
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (Steven Spielberg, 1998)
Steven Spielberg’s World War II masterpiece features one of the greatest opening scenes I have ever seen.
    SUPERMAN I-IV/SUPERMAN RETURNS (Richard Donner/Richard Lester/Sidney J. Furie/Bryan Singer, 1978/1980/1983/1987/2006)
It’s going to be a lot of fun to give these ones a rewatch.  Christopher Reeve is a pitch-perfect Man of Steel and Superman Returns doesn’t get the love it deserves.
    UNFORGIVEN (Clint Eastwood, 1992)
Clint Eastwood’s crowning achievement as a director and one of the best Western’s ever made.

Miranda Lambert is explaining a previous meet-up with Joseph “Joe Exotic” Maldonado-Passage.
After sharing a few photos of herself with the Tiger King star on Monday, the country singer, 36, explained that she has never visited the G.W. Exotic Animal Memorial Park in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, but instead met the eccentric zookeeper in Texas years ago.
“Backstory: During Hurricane Harvey, the MuttNation Team went to Houston to help relocate existing shelter dogs to free up shelter space for animals separated by their owners,” Lambert shared on Twitter after posting several throwback pics featuring herself and Maldonado-Passage.
“MuttNation asked for volunteers who could transport some dogs from Houston to shelters in Oklahoma, where there was more room and they could be treated and adopted,” she continued. “Some guy named Joe volunteered his trailer and staff. Now I know it’s ‘Joe Exotic.'”
“I’ve never been to his zoo and I didn’t even know he had tigers,” she concluded, adding, “OBVIOUSLY I’d never condone animals being treated badly.”

RELATED: Celebs Who’ve Visited Tiger King Stars Joe Exotic & Doc Antle’s Zoos
Lambert is a well-known animal lover and not only keeps several animals on her farm near Nashville, but is also the founder of the MuttNation Foundation, which she launched in 2009 with her mom to “promote and facilitate the adoption of shelter pets.”
Maldonado-Passage has been accused of abusing the animals at his zoo after he was launched into the spotlight with the release of Netflix’s docuseries Tiger King last month.
Kelci “Saff” Saffrey, a handler at the zoo, told PEOPLE on Friday that there was no animal abuse while Maldonado-Passage was in charge.
“When Joe was there, or when Joe was not there, the handlers were the ones directly in contact with every animal,” Saffrey said. “So I know there wasn’t any abuse going on, you know, not on our part. But it’s a relevant term, you know? Anyone can say it’s abuse if it’s not what they agree with. If they believe the cage was too small, then it’s animal abuse.”

Maldonado-Passage is currently serving a 22-year sentence at the Grady County Jail in Oklahoma after being found guilty in 2019 for paying Allen Glover $3,000 to kill Carole Baskin, his rival and founder of the Big Cat Rescue.
Joe was also found guilty of killing tigers to make room for more big cats at his exotic animal park in Oklahoma.
He recently filed a lawsuit against various government agencies, as well as a former business partner, seeking $94 million in damages.
He has said that he is “ashamed” of the conditions in which he kept the animals at his zoo.
“Go sit in a cage with your animals for a week,” Maldonado-Passage said in a jailhouse interview with Netflix on March 22. “I mean, when I left the zoo and I sent my chimpanzees to the sanctuary in Florida and imagined what my chimpanzees went through for 18 years, I’m ashamed of myself.”
Tiger King is now streaming on Netflix.

Episode 11 Corrections:
Confused? Go check out episode 11!
Now available on:
Whooshkaa - Spotify - Apple Podcasts - YouTube
Foxes are in the family Canidae with a genus of Vulpes. Biologically this means foxes are more like dogs, but their behavioral similarities lie with cats.
While it is generally accepted that Mole people is a slang name for homeless people in large cities that make use of abandoned underground structures for shelter, urban legends persist that make stronger assertions.
Daredevil aka Matt Murdock can drive and has dozens of times. The windshield creates some limitations, which is addressed by having him just drive a convertible or kicking out the windshield.
Mason was mistaken about the detectives in Saw, they were Danny Glover and Ken Leung.
The newest Saw franchise movie that Alex was referring to was Spiral which comes out (pending the virus) in May 2020.
Unable to find any paper-towel tube mouth instruments, the song Join Together by The Who features a jaw harp, which is the instrument Mason was actually referring to.
Alex was thinking of Felix the Cat who is actually unrelated to Kit-Cat Clocks.
Wander is voiced by Jack McBrayer.

10 Minutes With—2020 U.S. CoffeeChamps Edition: Michelle Johnson
We chat with Michelle about her return to competition, inspirational coffee women, and the thriving Black coffee community.
BY KATRINA YENTCH BARISTA MAGAZINE ONLINE
Cover photo by Jeff Newton of Americano Mondays
Editor’s note: Last week, we began a U.S. CoffeeChamps edition of our 10 Minutes With series, featuring competitors headed to nationals in February. We continue it this week with Michelle Johnson, a competitor and active voice for social justice in the coffee community.
Coffee community advocate Michelle Johnson is making 2020 her year. She recently confirmed a spot at nationals during the Barista competition qualifier in Nashville, Tenn.—after not competing for nearly three years. During these three years, she’s made The Chocolate Barista blog a lifestyle platform for Black people and other racial minorities in the coffee industry to speak openly about their experiences. Michelle has also contributed to similar efforts like Black Coffee, along with leading a discussion at the Re:co Symposium on diversity in the specialty-coffee industry. She spent a year in Melbourne directing marketing initiatives for Barista Hustle, and is always volunteering to speak or emcee at one event or another. It’d be practically false to say that 2020 is Michelle Johnson’s year considering the landmarks she has made since 2016. As the new education manager at Red Bay Coffee, she’ll be responsible for the training programs and expansion of the Oakland, Calif.-based roaster into the Los Angeles area, but we have a feeling she’ll be diving into plenty of other exciting projects in the new decade.
After three years away from competing, Michelle is heading to nationals in 2020. Photo by Justin Sisson.
Katrina Yentch: Congratulations on your success in Nashville! What motivated you to return to the competition stage?
Michelle Johnson: Thank you so much! I feel like the universe was conspiring [with] a few things that all happened simultaneously to push me back into competition. For one, I believe all of my previous times competing were missing one or more crucial elements to help someone do well—positive affirmation and support from my company/team, financial support, dedicated practice time, a feedback loop, etc. The last time I competed in Austin ended poorly in a DQ [disqualification] and was also the loneliest competition season I’d had, so I wanted to give myself another chance. I felt like that couldn’t be it for me. So as this current competition season was approaching, the opportunity to work with Red Bay came up and they were fully on board. Additionally, I had already started to develop a relationship with Jeanine at JNP Coffee, the importer of the coffee I used, at my previous job. So with all this support and the fact that I’d be representing two Black-owned coffee companies and a coffee from Burundi, it felt like the best time to make a comeback!
What are some things in coffee that you’re really excited about right now?
There’s a thriving coffee culture within the American Black community that’s been bubbling up for awhile and coming to a boil. There are new coffee shops, roasting companies (big and small), an exciting generation of Black coffee professionals changing the game, and enthused consumers who are all making noise around the country. BLK & Bold, Boon Boona Coffee, Red Bay (obviously!), Portrait Coffee, Everybody’s Busy, Drip Coffee, and Southeastern Roastery are just a few of so many doing their thing. Getchusomegear is probably one of my favorite coffee-focused ventures at the moment—Chris gathers donated coffee gear and sends them out to marginalized people around the country for free. Seeing the amount of Black competitors who participated and qualified for the U.S. Coffee Championships is so inspiring to see, and I’m sure we’ll see more as the years go by. I try to keep my eye out on everything going on but the growth is happening so fast, it’s hard to keep up! It’s lit.
Who is someone in coffee who really inspires you and why?
There are actually three women who all really inspire me and they’re in the importing and business game. Phyllis Johnson owns BD Imports and has been working in coffee for decades, often being the only Black woman AND woman of color on executive boards a majority of her career. Vava Angwenyi is a Kenyan businesswoman and importer who’s dedicated to empowering Kenyan coffee farmers with trading knowledge and inspiring more women to enter the coffee industry. I’ve seen both Phyllis and Vava speak at past Re:co Symposiums, and the work they’re doing for Black American coffee consumers and Kenyan coffee farmers, respectively, is so impactful. Lastly, Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian, who owns JNP Coffee, a Burundian coffee exporter and importer, is my most recent inspiration. I used one of her coffees, a natural from the Kayanza region of Burundi, at competition. The common thread with all of these women is that they’ve returned to their roots in coffee, sharing knowledge and having a stake in an industry built on exploiting communities like ours. I sincerely hope to be like them one day!
The crew behind Black Coffee. Photo by Shaunté Glover.
What are the top three artists on your café mixtape?
Noname for the chill morning vibes, Doja Cat during an afternoon rush, R&B Drake when the evening Tinder dates start rolling in hahaha.
What’s an interest you have outside of coffee?
I’m really into astrology, reading natal birth charts and transits, and any star-based energy work. Not only is it fun to study but I found it helps me to better understand how I like to live and work, aka setting BOUNDARIES! It’s also fun to learn about other people in this way and how I can be a better friend, colleague, leader, and so on. For those wondering, I’m a Sagittarius sun, Gemini moon, and Taurus rising!
