so an answer to the question: "will i be able to off-road with this many cows in my truck" (because i'm sure everyone was wondering)
as you can see from the first pic, i had several cows tied to completely full cargo spaces. i also had (second pic) a livestock stall holding another cow and also several items lol
i was not at all confident that the vehicle would move once i went off-road. yes, i know i can examine the vehicle and it'll tell me, but it's more fun to find out by just... driving onto the grass!
and as shown by the third pic, the answer is: 5 cows + 2 ppl + about 2700L of cargo in one mostly standard pick-up truck can drive exactly 10 mph but no faster
you're welcome

roguelike characters having ludicrous amounts of gear/limbs is funny to me trip over a rock, crushed under the weight of 100lb packs, seven different firearms and grenades go off, etc..

Got a new modem, so of course the internet’s out because it’s not connecting. Might as well finally sit down and learn how to play Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead!
I’ve watched a few tutorial videos, and I saw Nookrium’s play through of Bright Nights. I thought he had just started out with the defaults and end up getting some kind of prepper. Started out in a bunker with lots of supplies. Which sounded like a great start to me. Learn the ropes on easy mode? Yes please! Play Now (Fixed Scenario)!
I did not find myself in a bunker.
I was not surrounded by supplies.
I was not a prepper.
I was in a FEMA shelter. I had the clothes on my back and a handful of oxy to my name. The NPC in the shelter with me needed an inhaler from the town to the north.
Well, none of this was on my schedule for today, so might as well help the poor guy.
I pop a pill, grab an emergency jacket and supplies then head out. Following the road north I see a giant hornet and a collie in my periphery, but they don’t react as I pass by. The few cars on the road are empty and unusable.
I spot more zombies as a reach a bridge at the edge of town. I climb into a street sweeper, figuring it should be safe enough, but it appears to be remote controlled and I can’t drive it. The zombies have noticed me by now so I rush into a nearby house and close the door.
I can hear them outside, but they don’t seem to be trying to break in. So I pop another pill and ransack the place. Found a bunch of football gear, a big stick, and some more drugs. Morale is high, despite the danger, or maybe just because of the drugs. Who knows.
I walk outside ready to fight through the hoards to bring my new friend an inhaler. A zombie moves towards me but I’m faster, I move around it and spot a bicycle. Just found some armor, now some transportation! I hop aboard and ride off down the road, sailing past all these zombie chumps.
And then I crash right into a parked car, with a zombie right next to me. I rush at it with my big stick but it bites my arm. I swing some more but can’t land a hit, while the zombie lands bite after bite. I can see more zombies coming so I try to break away, but I can’t pull free. More zombies move in and surround me. I swing wildly around while shoveling pills into my mouth.
Painkillers coursing through my veins I don’t feel anything at all as the hoard tears me to pieces.

so i found a spot to set up a base, at least for now. it's just a hunting lodge so not as good as the base i used from my lost save (mansion), but it's got both an upstairs and a basement which i like to have and it's conveniently located near a stocked pond and a wooded area so not bad really. and i've been getting it all rigged up with electricity and food storage and shit for the past few in-game days.
and now i want to stick the cows down in the basement just so i know nothing is going to come through a window at them or whatever, so here's the basement which i haven't spent much time in:
Tumblr media
as you can see there's a little area of the wall that can't be seen, but that can happen if there is a large piece of furniture that you can't get on either side of, no biggie.
but i don't want those bookcases in that particular spot so i'll just move them and....
Tumblr media
i've been here for days and there's a whole room i didn't even notice!?
hmm... mostly it's just a long room with some rollmats on the floor and some exercise equipment, but at the very end of the room there's a bunch of workbenches with crap on them, let's take a look at them.
Tumblr media
oh. they are all piled with baggies of cocaine. welp! at least i'll be able to get a lot done around the place lol nothing bad can come from this, right?

You know what, I have this account; I should start putting my art here again.
This is my mouse fellow, Lt. Kasey Harrington; stuck in the ruins of post-apocalyptic New England, his route to surviving the cataclysm is long and dangerous. He’s not the first person to come this way, skirting the edges of another destroyed town, but he may well be the last.

I was talking to my friend about playing mutants in Cata, and decided to try and illustrate a typical melee mutant wearing a grim reaper costume. there are a few things i could improve, but i’m busy with work, and need to study more about art in general. i’ll probably fix the weird anatomy (with the legs especially), and change the moose to a group of survivors around a campfire to make it a better image when i have time. good learning experience though. lol

Didi's Cataclysm Guide II
First installment
Vehicles and Bases
Last character was a drug addict so I'm doing over, because withdrawls are really nasty.
Tumblr media
Vehicles are really useful. I started this run as an EMT so I started with an ambulance. This is pretty good because it has lots of storage space. STroage space in your vehicle allows you to take stuff with you on supply runs so you aren't always carrying stuff back and forth.
Tumblr media
Over time you may want to upgrade your vehicle with armor plates and weapons. You'll want mechanics and welding for that. A good place to get that is the refugee centre.
But the best bit is towns can be moved through during the day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Running over Zs is an easy way to reduce the number of zombies in an area with a low risk of getting hurt.
Driving tips:
Zoom out:- keep your eyes on the road ahead so you can avoid obstacles ahead
Start slow:- the driving controls take a while to get used to and if your character doesn't have good driving skills your control may be a little slow
Decelerate around corners:- this is pretty obvious but practise safe driving even in the apocalypse if you can.
Try to keep your wing mirrors:- they're not hard to replace but they create massive blindspots when driving
Vehicle containers have limited capacity- if you overload the items will drop through the floor!
Tumblr media
As you can see I've lost both mirrors. Lets drive through this town and we'll get further on.
We pass some insects. Monsters that have to be avoided. Insects are nasty.
FInally we get to a wind turbine
Tumblr media
Wind turbines an other high places are really useful. They allow you to scout out large expanses of land quickly and also can give you a safe space to hide. A simple wire lockpick and a day and almost any character can break into a wind turbine, so if you've got food already they're well worth it.
We head to an evac shelter
Tumblr media
Driving backwards and forwards we mow down a dozen or so Zs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's an armored vehicle too, however its tanks are broken. Armored vehicles can contain weapons and if you find one that works tend to be safer. I rember its location ofr later in case I can repair the tanks.
On the subject of bases,
a good base
has a steady supply of food and water
Is not far from a some town
Is far from insects
Is vehicle accessible
As you travel and find furniture you can obtain nails. These are very useful for construction and improving your base, as well as being small and relatively light in small numbers, so collect them.
I'll be honest I haven't got into this game's deepest systems. Longest I've lasted has been 2 weeks and I usually kill myself by being reckless somehow (using flamethrowers to torch zombie dogs while suffering withdrawls for example)
