2027, A voice transcript found on a recording device:
"...can be killed with fire, testing done in..." A french accent. "September of 2025. If I am counting correct."
. . .
"Now, with more testing I can hopefully learn more about them. Learn advantages. Sending someone out to rile them up. Will check in later."
...End transcript.
You're alive.
One survivor amongst thousands of dead. The actual death toll (if there was ever a record of it) is unavailable now. The world ended in 2026.
Now, four-hundred and twenty-three days later, you're here. In the outskirts of Scarswater, Ohio; you live in what used to be a small farming community. Once full of life and a bustling economy, but even before The End, the area had been steadily gentrified. Dead fields, closed businesses, and now, a beautiful wasteland of parking lots and unused plazas.
Whatever caused it is unknown. Of course, you could ask everyone you know and they would all have their own ideas about what happened.
All that you know for certain is that in January of 2026, everything stopped working. Cellphones, computers, televisions... all electronics went on the fritz before shutting down entirely. After that, people started disappearing. Animals, too. And then went the crops, mass death of acres and acres of valuable foods and materials. All gone within six months. Mass hysteria ensued, people got scared, started hoarding goods. Everyone and their mother had a gun pointed right at the road, just in case anyone got any funny ideas.
And all of that was before the bizarre sightings.
The... things. Gooey, tar-like. They absorb, and absorb, and absorb.
You wondered, for a bit, how they could eat so much. But that thought has long passed. They have no limits, no voices, no care in the world except consume. How long until they finally consume you, too?
FEATURES
Play as a nonbinary, male, or female character; straight, bisexual, or gay.
Custom Pronouns (I'm considering adding duo pronouns as well. like, she/they etc.).
Choice for a ‘common’ name or something bizarre. In which characters will definitely recognize that you have named yourself something batshit.
Asexual routes (this is very important to me)!
A mildly customizable backstory
Several love interests
LOVE INTERESTS
Miles/Mindy (He/they, She/they): A surprisingly bashful stranger with a farmer's tan, M has the means to keep to themself alive and safe, so why are they bothering to make sure you make it, too? Circumstances have thrown the two of you together, whether or not they stick around is up to you.
Audria (They/them): Goofy and a little out of touch, Audria is a certified genius, not that it matters anymore. The key to your protection — and your group's — is them. They often head out of the camp to scavenge, and know how to keep a car running. Audria is one of the few people still around who knows anything about electronics. They often seem preoccupied with something important, but Audria always makes time for you.
Calvin/Carissa (He/him, She/her): The unofficial leader of your group — not that they'd want to claim the title — C is in charge of food collection, distribution, and growing. They have a chill attitude about life, and a whole mess of conspiracies. Still, you wonder what's hidden behind all of the easy smiles.
Lola (She/her): Lola is an unfriendly, hot mess. You've never met someone so flighty in your life. She is distrustful and stubborn, and you suspect even the name she told you might be fake. It might be hard to get to know her.
Sandy (She/her, He/him, They/them (genderfluid)): Sandy is a transfer from the West Coast. during a yearly visit to family, they got caught up in an unfamiliar setting. Sandy floats about life, taking very little seriously. They remain fickle in just about every category in their life; they have an easygoing attitude and a tendency to make everything into a joke.
OTHER CHARACTERS
Bea, Preston, Courtney
Bea (She/her): Bea is soft and caring. Not just to you, but the other people in your group as well. Being the only person around with any knowledge about healthcare, she is charge of medical.
Preston (He/him): Preston is a proper hill-billy, not the most likeable of people, but you can't deny he's a good shot. Preston keeps watch and hunts for the group.
Courtney (She/her): The younger sister to C, Courtney juggles many tasks, usually helping out with what others are doing. She always wants to go with you when you leave.
The rest will join later!:)
WARNINGS
Definitely some bad language, and slang that might not immediately understood by everyone. I’ll most likely include a glossary if it is too ‘Ohio’ of me.
A warning that there is definitely going to be reference to death and hardship (often), as well as active death among background/side characters.
I’m still waffling over a couple of the names I’ve chosen, but for now I think I’m satisfied with them. We shall see!
General warning for horror elements, there’s for sure going to be body horror in the future, and as well as I can write grotesque imagery.
Mentions/explicit depictions of drugs/alcohol/addictions/guns
content/trigger warnings for gender and body dysphoria, plus mild transphobia ( NOT EXPLICIT, it is implied, referencing a point in time in the past )
This setting is (obviously) very specific to me, as I’ve always wanted to tell a story about the type of scenery I see often. I’ve gotten to see a fun mix of rural yet urban in the area I live in that I haven’t seen someone really tackle before.
I’m also super busy, so writing will come pretty slow for me.
Important note: This story may be enjoyed by people who have the same tastes as me, but it’s mostly being written for myself! I love my characters dearly and it absolutely tickles me to see them finally coming to life in text. But it’s very sculpted to my preferences. This story is for me, and it is about my experiences and those I know closely. Give or take a few monsters.

The phone or computer you’re reading this on may not be long for this world. Maybe you’ll drop it in water, or your dog will make a chew toy of it, or it’ll reach obsolescence. If you can’t repair it and have to discard it, the device will become e-waste, joining an alarmingly large mountain of defunct TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, cameras, routers, electric toothbrushes, headphones. This is “electrical and electronic equipment,” aka EEE—anything with a plug or battery. It’s increasingly out of control.
As economies develop and the consumerist lifestyle spreads around the world, e-waste has turned into a full-blown environmental crisis. People living in high-income countries own, on average, 109 EEE devices per capita, while those in low-income nations have just four. A new UN report finds that in 2022, humanity churned out 137 billion pounds of e-waste—more than 17 pounds for every person on Earth—and recycled less than a quarter of it.
That also represents about $62 billion worth of recoverable materials, like iron, copper, and gold, hitting e-waste landfills each year. At this pace, e-waste will grow by 33 percent by 2030, while the recycling rate could decline to 20 percent. (You can see this growth in the graph below: purple is EEE on the market, black is e-waste, and green is what gets recycled.)

“What was really alarming to me is that the speed at which this is growing is much quicker than the speed that e-waste is properly collected and recycled,” says Kees Baldé, a senior scientific specialist at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and lead author of the report. “We just consume way too much, and we dispose of things way too quickly. We buy things we may not even need, because it's just very cheap. And also these products are not designed to be repaired.”
Humanity has to quickly bump up those recycling rates, the report stresses. In the first pie chart below, you can see the significant amount of metals we could be saving, mostly iron (chemical symbol Fe, in light gray), along with aluminum (Al, in dark gray), copper (Cu), and nickel (Ni). Other EEE metals include zinc, tin, and antimony. Overall, the report found that in 2022, generated e-waste contained 68 billion pounds of metal.

E-waste is a complex thing to break down: A washing machine is made of totally different components than a TV. And even for product categories, not only do different brands use different manufacturing processes, but even different models within those brands vary significantly. A new washing machine has way more sensors and other electronics than one built 30 years ago.
Complicating matters even further, e-waste can contain hazardous materials, like cobalt, flame retardants, and lead. The report found that each year, improperly processed e-waste releases more than 125,000 pounds of mercury alone, imperiling the health of humans and other animals. “Electronic waste is an extremely complex waste stream,” says Vanessa Gray, head of the Environment and Emergency Telecommunications Division at the UN’s International Telecommunication Union and an author of the report. “You have a lot of value in electronic waste, but you also have a lot of toxic materials that are dangerous to the environment.”
That makes recycling e-waste a dangerous occupation. In low- and middle-income countries, informal e-waste recyclers might go door-to-door collecting the stuff. To extract valuable metals, they melt down components without proper safety equipment, poisoning themselves and the environment. The new report notes that in total, 7.3 billion pounds of e-waste is shipped uncontrolled globally, meaning its ultimate management is unknown and likely not done in an environmentally friendly way. Of that, high-income countries shipped 1.8 billion pounds to low- and middle-income countries in 2022, swamping them with dangerous materials.
High-income countries have some of this informal recycling, but they also have formal facilities where e-waste is sorted and safely broken down. Europe, for example, has fairly high formal e-waste recycling rates, at about 43 percent. But globally, recycling is happening nowhere near enough to keep up with the year-over-year growth of the waste. Instead of properly mining EEE for metals, humanity keeps mining more ore out of the ground.
Still, the report found that even the small amount of e-waste that currently gets recycled avoided the mining of 2 trillion pounds of ore for virgin metal in 2022. (It takes a lot of ore to produce a little bit of metal.) The more metals we can recycle from e-waste, the less mining we’ll need to support the proliferation of gadgets. That would in turn avoid the greenhouse gases from such mining operations, plus losses of biodiversity.

The complexity of e-waste, though, makes it expensive to process. As the chart above shows, even an ambitious scenario of a formal e-waste collection rate in 2030 is 44 percent. “There is no business case for companies to just collect e-waste and to make a profit out of this in a sustainable manner,” says Baldé. “They can only survive if there is legislation in place which is also compensating them.”
The report notes that 81 countries have e-waste policies on the books, and of those, 67 have provisions regarding extended producer responsibility, or EPR. This involves fees paid by manufacturers of EEE that would go toward e-waste management.
Of course, people could also stop throwing so many devices away in the first place, something right-to-repair advocates have spent years fighting for. Batteries, for instance, lose capacity after a certain number of charge cycles. If a phone can’t hold a charge all day anymore, customers should be able to swap in a new battery. “Manufacturers shouldn't be able to put artificial limitations on that ability,” says Elizabeth Chamberlain, director of sustainability at iFixit, which provides repair guides and tools. That includes limiting access to parts and documentation. “Repair is a harm-reduction strategy. It's not the be-all-end-all solution, but it's one of many things we need to do as a global society to slow down the rate at which we're demanding things of the planet.”
At the core of the e-waste crisis is the demand: A growing human population needs phones to communicate and fridges to keep food safe and heat pumps to stay comfortable indoors. So first and foremost we need high-quality products that don’t immediately break down, but also the right to repair when they do. And what absolutely can’t be fixed needs to move through a safe, robust e-waste recycling system. “We are consuming so much,” says Baldé, “we cannot really recycle our way out of the problem.”

Hi, it's been a while - I haven't looked at anything bsd related in a while (besides just reading the last chapter of the sinner epilogue) because it's not one of my current fixations, but I wondered if I could hear more from you about emotions? Recently my brain has been rotten by a love of computers and robots and maths and physics and I have been obsessively consuming all versions of I have no mouth and I must scream (have you heard of it? If not, ihnmaims is a short sci-fi story written by Harlan Ellison about an AI, AM, torturing the last 5 humans). The relationship between Ted and AM is fascinating to me, especially in terms of what 'emotions' AM feels towards him, and it reminded me of something that I think you wrote about how intertwined hate and love are - how hate is to care enough about a person to want their suffering and pain (I'm not entirely sure if that was you, forgive me if I'm wrong-). I'll spare you my ramblings about the story itself unless you are interested in hearing more, but I am very curious about your perspective on a being who was created for war, gained sentience and immense power and intelligence but will never be free, will never belong, will never play Mozart on the ivory keys of a fortepiano... a being who cannot feel in a way we can conceive but is driven by hatred, who craves humanity or release yet cannot die, who has no mouth but must scream.
There is a point where AM invades Ted's mind, ramming The Hate Monologue in the form of a steel pillar into his mind - some of the lines in this section make me go a little bit feral - "AM touched me in every way I had ever been touched, and devised new ways, at his leisure, there inside my mind."
It's incredibly intrusive, and for Ted there is no escape from AM - it's physical machinery covers the entire planet and the humans live within it, it's 'belly slaves'. As AM cannot die it keeps them alive, pretty much immortal (but not indestructible) and in the end, Ted too has no mouth though he must scream.
It's a fascinating mix of hatred, envy, deification, love (?), hope, resignation, invasion, co-dependence, wires and viscera that can never mix or understand each other but are the same in every way.
Apologies for the rambling infodump (especially if you have already read it/have absolutely no interest in this sort of thing - this isn't a rec, just my putrefied brain matter leaking into your ask box), I should really be asleep right now so I would not be surprised if this is entirely incomprehensible.... I just want to study them under an electron microscope.... It's a very grim story, with a powerful sense of the indomitable human spirit but very grim nonetheless. The hyperfixation is hyperfixating....
Anyway I should shut up, and I would love to hear your thoughts (I don't even know what I was intending this ask to be .. I can't remember now but I don't think it was .. this..) and thank you for putting up with this mess of a message- hope you have a lovely day/night!
- 🪼
P.S. oh yes! I loved the last chapter of sinner's epilogue- your writing never fails pluck my heartstrings like.. a very strange surgeon (?)(I'm so sorry I am very tired)(I have no brain and I must sleep...) I adore how you write Fyodor's experience of emotion and (as always) Dazai's fear and panic-
Okay listen, I don't plan to get into this story (I've watched essay videos on it so I do know about it, at least), but I respect how much time you took describing this to me in my asks box, so I'm putting it out for anyone else who might find it cool!
Despite my love for psychological trauma, some stories are a certain flavor that I know I shouldn't get into, and IHNMAIMS belongs in that category. Pretty sure if I read it it'll haunt me for the rest of my life and I'll have to deal with a big depressive episode over it for the weeks after, WHICH IS NEVER FUN.
This and other reasons are why I never read A Little Life, and then I learned that I dodged a bullet by putting the book down on the first instance of Jude's cutting episodes, BECAUSE OH MY GOD DUDE THAT STORY DID NOT HANDLE IT THE WAY I NEEDED IT TO BE HANDLED AND I COULD SMELL WHERE THE STORY WAS GONNA GO WITH IT AND TAPPED OUT. I won't get into the frustration of A Little Life but IHNMAIMS felt like it would be that same level of too much grim, not enough plot?? for me. Does that make sense? Too much bad happening just feels like dragging myself through mud without reason, making myself miserable by enduring hours of hurt-no-comfort LMAO
Regardless, thanks for talking to me about it! I knew most of the details of the story, but it was entertaining to read your description of it--I'm glad you find such interest in the story!
ALSO THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENTS ON THE NEWEST SINNER EPILOGUE, I'M ACTUALLY WRITING YET ANOTHER ONE CURRENTLY...AHAHA....THEY NEVER STOP....we'll see how long it takes me since my writing has been out of touch with me for a while, but fingers crossed! <3

Brand Extension Strategies: Unlocking New Market Opportunities
Understanding Brand Extension
Brand extension is a marketing strategy where a company uses its existing brand name to launch a new product or enter a new market.
The goal of brand extension is to leverage the existing brand equity and customer loyalty to drive sales and increase market share.
By extending the brand into new markets, companies can capitalize on the trust and recognition they have already established with their target audience.
Understanding the key principles and considerations of brand extension is crucial for successful implementation.
Benefits of Brand Extension Strategies
Brand extension strategies offer several benefits for businesses:
- Increased brand awareness: Brand extension allows companies to reach new audiences and increase their brand visibility.
- Cost savings: Launching a new product under an existing brand can be more cost-effective compared to creating a new brand from scratch.
- Customer loyalty: By leveraging the existing brand equity, companies can tap into the trust and loyalty of their current customer base.
- Competitive advantage: Brand extension can help companies differentiate themselves from competitors and gain a competitive edge in the market.
These benefits make brand extension an attractive strategy for companies looking to expand their reach and grow their business.
Types of Brand Extension
There are different types of brand extension strategies that companies can consider:
- Product extension: This involves introducing a new product in a category that is related to the existing product line.
- Line extension: This refers to adding new variants or flavors to an existing product line.
- Category extension: This involves entering a new product category that is different from the company's existing offerings.
- Co-branding: This is a strategy where two or more brands collaborate to create a new product or service.
Choosing the right type of brand extension depends on factors such as market research, target audience, and the company's overall brand positioning.
Implementing Successful Brand Extensions
To successfully implement brand extensions, companies should follow these key steps:
- Conduct market research: Understand the market dynamics, customer preferences, and competition to identify potential opportunities for brand extension.
- Maintain brand consistency: Ensure that the new product aligns with the existing brand's values, positioning, and messaging to maintain brand integrity.
- Communicate the brand extension: Develop a clear and compelling communication strategy to introduce the new product to the target audience and build awareness.
- Monitor and adapt: Continuously monitor the performance of the brand extension and make necessary adjustments based on customer feedback and market trends.
By following these steps, companies can increase the chances of a successful brand extension and maximize the potential for growth.
Case Studies of Successful Brand Extensions
Several companies have achieved success with brand extensions. Here are a few examples:
- Apple: The tech giant extended its brand from computers to a wide range of consumer electronics, including smartphones, tablets, and wearables.
- Coca-Cola: The beverage company successfully extended its brand into different flavors and variants, as well as non-carbonated beverages.
- Nike: Known for its athletic footwear, Nike expanded its brand into apparel, accessories, and fitness equipment.
These case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of brand extension strategies in diversifying product offerings and reaching new markets.
By learning from these examples, companies can gain insights and inspiration for their own brand extension efforts.

The specific products that are exported and imported vary from country to country. For example, the United States is a major exporter of agricultural products, machinery, and equipment, while China is a major exporter of manufactured goods and electronics.
Factors to Consider When Choosing Export Import Products
There are a number of factors that businesses should consider when choosing which products to export or import. These factors include:
Demand: Is there a strong demand for the product in the target market?
Competition: How much competition is there for the product in the target market?
Profitability: Is the product profitable to export or import?
Regulations: Are there any regulations that restrict the export or import of the product?
Logistics: How will the product be transported to and from the target market?
Benefits of Exporting and Importing Products
There are a number of benefits to exporting and importing products. For businesses, exporting can help to increase sales and profits, and it can also help to diversify the business's customer base. Importing can help businesses to access products that are not available domestically, and it can also help businesses to reduce costs.
For consumers, exporting and importing can help to lower prices and increase the availability of goods. For example, consumers in the United States can buy fresh produce from all over the world, and they can also buy electronics and other manufactured goods at lower prices because of imports.
Conclusion
Exporting and importing products is a vital part of the global economy. It helps businesses to grow and consumers to save money. If you are considering starting an export import business, there are a number of resources available to help you get started.

Understanding Sector Trends Through NASDAQ Companies By Market Cap
Market capitalization is a measure that reflects a company’s overall valuation in the stock market. It is calculated by multiplying the current share price by the total number of outstanding shares. This means that larger companies have a greater effect on the index’s movement, making them influential in gauging overall sentiment.
Companies with high market capitalizations tend to have established business models, extensive global footprints, and consistent demand for their products or services. These traits often lead to greater stability and visibility within financial discussions.
Dominance of Technology Leaders
Many of the highest-ranked NASDAQ Companies By Market Cap are technology-focused. Entities in this segment are not only redefining industries but also shaping consumer behavior and business operations globally.
Companies specializing in cloud infrastructure, productivity tools, and software solutions play a pivotal role. They offer platforms used by small businesses and enterprises alike, enabling smoother workflows and digital transformation. As remote work, data storage, and automation continue to scale, technology firms remain central to growth across industries.
The Role of Semiconductor Powerhouses
A distinct segment within the technology sector includes companies that design and manufacture semiconductors. These businesses supply the chips used in smartphones, gaming consoles, electric vehicles, and artificial intelligence systems.
High-cap semiconductor companies on Nasdaq are known for constant innovation in chip architecture and power efficiency. Their work supports everything from personal electronics to advanced computing used in research and defense. Their significance is clearly reflected among the NASDAQ Companies By Market Cap.
Expanding Footprint of Healthcare Entities
Beyond tech, several Nasdaq-listed companies in the healthcare segment hold significant positions by market cap. These include biopharmaceutical developers, medical device producers, and diagnostics firms.
Such organizations focus on breakthroughs in disease treatment, personalized medicine, and surgical technologies. The ongoing demand for healthcare access and innovation ensures that firms in this space continue to influence not only the index but also public health trends globally.
Consumer-Centric Companies in Focus
Some of the most recognized consumer brands also rank among the NASDAQ Companies By Market Cap. These entities operate in categories such as food and beverages, personal care, and retail apparel.
Their market influence comes from brand loyalty, strong distribution networks, and adaptability to changing consumer tastes. Businesses that continuously evolve their marketing strategies and supply chains often maintain a competitive edge in both domestic and global markets.
Communication and Content Evolution
Another significant category includes companies involved in communication services and content delivery. These entities enable internet connectivity, video streaming, social networking, and digital advertising.
Their presence among the largest NASDAQ Companies By Market Cap signals how communication platforms have become foundational to modern life. With billions of users interacting on digital platforms daily, these firms shape everything from news consumption to entertainment.
Industrial Strength Within Nasdaq
While Nasdaq is known for high-growth industries, it also features leading industrial companies. These include businesses involved in aerospace, automation, and engineering solutions.
Their scale and engineering capabilities support global manufacturing and infrastructure development. Market cap strength in this sector reflects resilience and long-term relevance, especially as the world adapts to sustainable energy solutions and urban development.
Impact of Market Trends on Capitalization
Rankings in the NASDAQ shift over time, influenced by business performance, macroeconomic conditions, and industry cycles. Market movements in sectors like energy transition, artificial intelligence, and digital finance can significantly alter how companies are positioned on the index.
The market cap hierarchy often tells a broader story about where the economy is heading. For instance, a surge in clean energy technologies or digital payments may elevate companies aligned with those themes.
Evaluating NASDAQ Companies By Market Cap reveals more than just a ranking. It uncovers where influence, innovation, and operational strength converge. From technology to healthcare, and from industrials to communications, the top Nasdaq-listed firms mirror the evolving dynamics of global demand and development. Their strategic roles across multiple industries continue to shape how markets respond to change and innovation.

Global Trade Insights: A Closer Look at U.S.–China Trade and Import-Export Trends in Emerging Markets
The trade relationship between the United States and China remains one of the most important and complex in the global economy. Power Supply: The Backbone of Modern Electronics

Introduction
A power supply is an essential component in virtually every electronic device, from smartphones to industrial machinery. It converts electrical energy into a usable form, ensuring that devices operate efficiently and safely. Without a reliable power supply, modern technology would cease to function. This article explores the importance, types, and applications of power supplies, along with key considerations for selecting the right one.
What Is a Power Supply?
A power supply is an electrical device that provides the necessary voltage, current, and frequency to power electronic equipment. It takes input power from a source (such as an AC outlet or battery) and converts it into a stable DC or AC output suitable for the connected device.
Key Functions of a Power Supply
Voltage Conversion – Adjusts input voltage to the required output level.
Regulation – Maintains a consistent output despite fluctuations in input or load.
Filtering – Reduces electrical noise for cleaner power delivery.
Protection – Safeguards devices from surges, short circuits, and overheating.
Types of Power Supplies
Different applications require different types of power supplies. Below are the most common categories:
1. Linear Power Supplies
Linear power supplies use transformers to step down voltage and regulate output through linear regulators. They are known for their simplicity and low noise but are less efficient due to heat dissipation.
Applications: Audio equipment, laboratory instruments, and low-power devices.
2. Switching Power Supplies (SMPS)
Switching power supplies use high-frequency switching to convert voltage efficiently. They are smaller, lighter, and more energy-efficient than linear supplies but may introduce electrical noise.
Applications: Computers, servers, consumer electronics, and industrial machinery.
3. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
A UPS provides backup power supply during outages, ensuring continuous operation. It typically includes a battery that kicks in when the main power fails.
Applications: Data centers, medical equipment, and critical infrastructure.
4. DC Power Supplies
These provide a stable direct current (DC) output and are often adjustable. They are commonly used in testing and development environments.
Applications: Electronics prototyping, battery charging, and research labs.
5. AC Power Supplies
AC power supplies convert DC to AC or regulate existing AC power. They are used in applications requiring alternating current.
Applications: Renewable energy systems, motor drives, and household appliances.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Power Supply
Selecting the right power supply is crucial for performance and safety. Here are key factors to evaluate:
1. Voltage and Current Requirements
Ensure the power supply matches the voltage and current needs of the device. Overloading or underpowering can damage equipment.
2. Efficiency and Energy Consumption
Higher efficiency reduces energy waste and heat generation. Look for 80 Plus certification in switching power supplies for optimal performance.
3. Regulation and Stability
A good power supply maintains stable output under varying loads. Check for low ripple and noise levels, especially in sensitive applications.
4. Protection Features
Overvoltage, overcurrent, and thermal protection prevent damage to both the power supply and connected devices.
5. Form Factor and Cooling
Consider size, mounting options, and cooling mechanisms (fanless vs. active cooling) based on the application environment.

BIS Registration: A Crucial Step for Market Access and Compliance in India

This is the final version of Indian Manufacturing and Imports: To ensure product quality and compliance with the regulatory requirements is indeed more than a mandate; it is a strategic business move in India. One of the most important regulations common to many products is that of the BIS Registration governed by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) the national standards body of India.
BIS registration affirms that the product complies with Indian quality and safety standards. Its relevance is found particularly within the confines of electronics, IT products, appliances, and a number of consumer goods. For both domestic and foreign enterprises, knowledge and acquisition of BIS registration are a prerequisite to legal manufacture, importation, or trade of these goods within India.
What is BIS Registration?
BIS Registration is a certification of products under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) that certifies that products meet the relevant Indian Standard (IS). The Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) was introduced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and is now applicable to around 60 categories of electronics, specifically covering IT products, such as:
Mobile phones
Power adapters and chargers
LEDs and control gears
Batteries
Personal Computing - Laptops and desktops, as well as
Smart watches, etc.
Manufacturers must obtain BIS registration under this scheme before entering their products into the Indian market. Non-BIS-registered products are not sold, and nonconformity to this requirement can incur high penalties, product recall, and even legal action.
Who is required to obtain BIS Registration?
Indian manufacturers producing regulated products.
An overseas manufacturer exporting products to India.
Importers and Distributors, who must ensure the manufacturer has a valid registration before bringing products into the country.
Foreign brands must appoint an Authorized Indian Representative
(AIR) and comply with Foreign Manufacturers Certification
Scheme (FMCS) requirements to obtain BIS approval.
Why is BIS Registration Necessary?
Legal Requirement: Selling or importing goods enumerated under the CRS without BIS registration is illegal.
Consumer Confidence: Products marked with BIS demonstrate quality and safety assurance.
Market Access: With registration comes direct access to the vast Indian consumer market.
International Credibility: Products certified with Indian standards gain acceptance and recognition in global user markets, particularly among countries with similar regulatory frameworks.
Steps Involved in BIS Registration
Identification of the Standard: Identify which Indian Standard (IS) applies to the product.
Testing in BIS-Recognized Labs: Samples of the product must be tested in BIS-approved laboratories in India.
Document Submission: Test reports must accompany the application and other documents submitted to BIS.
Application Review: The paper works and reports will be reviewed by BIS for compliance purposes.
Certificate Issuance: After approval, the BIS Registration Certificate is issued for the product to carry the Standard Mark.
The process typically takes 4-6 weeks if all documents and test results are in order.
Common Hurdles in BIS Registration
Although it is systematic, it can be daunting because of:
Technical documentation and compliance to regulations
Liaising with testing laboratories
Interpreting the BIS guidelines
Rejection due to trivial mistakes in documentation or labeling
It is these factors that can delay product launch and incur unnecessary costs. This is where cooperation with a BIS product certification consultant becomes a strategic advantage.
Role of a BIS Product Certification Consultant
A BIS product certification consultant assists enterprises in completing the whole BIS registration process competently-anultimately without any hitches. From product evaluation to documentation, testing coordination, and follow-ups with their officers, this professional consultant ensures smooth, timely registration.
Some tangible advantages are:
Identifying the correct IS code
Preparation and review of technical files
Total management of the application
Regular update and compliance consultation
Less chance of rejection or delay
Whether you are a budding entrepreneur in India or a global electronics brand scouting for entry into Indian soil, teaming up with a BIS consultant will speed up the entire compliance process and entry into the Indian market.
