Alright welp time to get on my backlog of ocs while I'm fistfighting the next comic. Let's start with Eclipsa Fenine

Eclipsa is derived from my Catnap Catclipse design, listen I just liked the design too much to only draw it once do you feel me chat

They're not Catnap anymore, IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE- Considering they are now one of the first iterations of the bigger bodies Catnap. They would have been the final version, if not for one quirk: That being they became agitated in the dark. They were kept around as a reference for the final iteration of Catnap. While they were there the company also decided to make them into their own character: Eclipsa Fenine.

To differentiate them from Catnap, parts of a failed Dogday were added to them too, to give them a calico or spotty sort of look. Then the character Eclipsa was made, an enigmatic and mysterious cat-dog who's merchandise is exclusive to onsite Playtime Co. locations. So they're a bit of a collectors item! A lil bit rare

In adding Dogday parts to them the staff thought that might calm their agitation, IT DIDN'T IT JUST MADE IT WORSE. So Eclipsa still hangs around Playcare, it's just important to not turn off the lights around them <3

Personality wise they are quiet, graceful and calm, a serene yet slightly eerie presence. They're kind of like Catnap, just more confident and they have more of a dominating vibe than a gentle one. They can also be quite menacing, especially to the staff.

They're also agender- No gender here PFF. They were experimented on for so long they didn't really develop a gender identity, so when they were given the one Eclipsa was supposed to be, they just kinda said "no thanks". So true bestie

Smiling/Nightmare Critter OCs

I’ve decided that I’ll draw some of the Smiling/Nightmare Critter OCs in my free time, along with them interacting with the other Smiling/Nightmare Critters.

I’ll list the characters’ names in the poll below, with descriptions of each character below the poll.

Sleepy Sheepy

Sleepy was a simply a rough draft concept to replace Catnap after the scandal, but was scrapped shortly after.

Their base design was then used to create Baba Chops, by inverting the colors & changing the scent.

Their appearance was a sheep with thick white wool & black limbs, along with tan hooves & horns. They wore a cloud shaped pendant with 3 Zs in it, & would’ve had German Chamomile as their scent.

Their personality wasn’t completely developed yet, but was said to have a drowsy demeanor but was a good listener & would’ve given good advice to the Smiling Critters.

Mary Little

Mary was created from the scrapped concept of Sleepy, & was a 1991 limited edition toy to celebrate the 3-year anniversary of the Smiling Critters.

Her appearance is a lamb with short white wool & limbs, & black hooves. She wears a bell shaped pendant, & has Roman Chamomile as her scent.

Her personality is described has innocent, overly curious, & a bit naive & gullible. She views everyone has her friend & wants everyone to get along.

She’ll often try to invite the Nightmare Critters to join in the Smiling Critters’ games to feel included, but this would lead to some disagreements & tension between the Smiling/Nightmare Critters.

Skunky Funk

Skunky was a scrapped/recalled toy that was created for the Nightmare Critters toy line. She would’ve been a counterpart to Sleepy.

Her appearance is a skunk with dark blue-violet fur with white stripes. She wore a housefly shaped pendant, & has Ambergris as her scent.

Her scent was actually the reason for her being recalled, complained that it was too pungent & smelled “gross”.

Her personality is described has moody, reserved & snippy. She prefers to be alone, secretly worried that the other Nightmare Critters don’t like her. She’s very condescending towards others & very self-deprecating towards herself.

Liar-Lier

Liar-Lier was created as a counterpart for Mary Little, & was released shortly after Mary as a limited edition toy as well.

His appearance is an opossum with dark brown fur, cream face & belly fur, & peach hand, feet & tail. He wears a crossed finger shaped pendant, & has Patchouli as his scent.

He’s personality is described to be mischievous, sarcastic, & a bit of a prankster. He’s known to lie a lot to cause fights between both the Smiling Critters & even the Nightmare Critters. He loves drama.

He’s close friends with Rabie Baby, who tells him the latest gossip which he’ll then exaggerate to start fights. If he’s caught, he’ll “play dead” to startle & freak out the Smiling Critters, this trick doesn’t that well with most of the other Nightmare Critters.

Here a idea how player/angel got turn into a honey badger smiling critter.

Sinch they are in a abandoned factory that semi active factories that filed with machine and equipmental scientist's laboratory stuff and strange and mysterious liquids. It wouldn't be to far fetched to say that player/angel trip or falling into a machine. By accident.

Ooh, these are fun! I love the possible terror of the first option - mixed in with classic shock at the sudden change.

But just having them be a toon from the start as well? That's hilarious! Kinda reminds me a bit of Looney Tunes Back in Action - though man that movie has not aged well.

I've been playing with an idea of Bubba and DogDay discovering the news of CatNap being recalled, and these two actually saw drafts for a Critter design to replace them. (Which I have the perfect idea of the scientists come in to capture CatNap and replace them, but DogDay interferes - which gives CatNap the opportunity to bring the Hour of Joy to PlayCare... But I won't get too in depth yet)

But yeah! So perhaps the scientists started to create this honey badger vessel... I wonder if that means there'd be more vessels for possible additions to the critters? Hm...

VAST BASTARDS - 2008/2010

Vast Bastards is a two-disc compilation album set by the Critland rock band the Critters. It was originally released as two separate volumes on March 7th, 2008, as part of the first issue of the band's catalogue on compact disc. The albums contains all songs released commercially by the band that were not available on the Critters' 12 original CL albums or the US Magical Mystery Tour LP. (Save for a few tracks here and there) It was compiled by Critters historian Mark Narrations, who also wrote the liner notes.

The Contents

The majority of the Vast Bastards set consists of A- and B-sides from the band's singles, including single versions of songs that appeared in a different form on the band's albums. Also included are the full contents of the CL-only Long Tall Sally EP, two banned tracks, a song recorded for the American market, and a track released on a charity compilation album in 1998.

Tape Box from a US exported release, circa 2012 (note how the sequence has been altered to have the english version of "I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams" instead of the german sung version, as well as omitting "Halt Meine Hand" from side A ending the side with "Georgy Girl".)

Although Vast Bastards is not a studio album and is instead a compilation, it is considered to be at the time the Critters' 14th (and final) major release until the Archeology line in the 2020s. This occurred when the Critters' core catalog was standardized in 2007, followed by the official re-releases in 2010.

History

A Collection Of Critters Oldies is considered

The original idea for this set was to simply re-release the 1996 album A Collection Of Critters Oldies with a new disc contanining their 1996-2000 material crammed in for good measure. But upon seeing the ghastly cover once again, it was aptly decided a new less "fruity" album was needed for the grunge filled 2000-2010 era.

Past Masters to Vast Bastards

After Oldies was once again locked away in the vaults to not see the light of day again, the team at Shabby Road Studios went back to the drawing board until they came up with the title of Past Masters however, one day Bryan Bubbaphant came by the studios for a visit, and upon hearing of their ideas and the title, he suggested instead the new albums be titled "Vast Bastards" in a joking manner given the songs on it would be mostly from B-sides and other material mostly not found on albums therefore in his words would be "albumless bastards".

The team ran with it, as in those days the word of one of The Critters was considered close to holy in terms of what to do with their work. Draft covers were designed before settling on a pure black cover with white text for Vol. 1 and a white cover with black text for Vol. 2

Release History

Vast Bastards was originally issued as two separate CDs, Vast Bastards, Volume One and Vast Bastards, Volume Two, on March 7th, 2008. The two volumes were included in The Critters Box Set. A double LP set, titled Vast Bastards, Volumes One & Two (also titled simply Vast Bastards), was subsequently released in the US on October 24th, 2008 and in the UK on November 10th, 2008. Both volumes were also released as a double cassette bundle on March 7th, 2008.

I'm not dead! Yall, I'm ngl Butterscotch took so long compared to all the cats. Why dogs gotta be built like that. Can't make something vaguely dog shaped and say 'yeah good enough' because then it doesn't look right. Why can't dogs occasionally liquefy like cats do.

Ooh, this I like. Interceding with the works of art students crafting their thesis project over the course of many all-nighter studio sessions, giving rest to fervent armorers taking a catnap from a massive commission, granting bursts of inspiration to graphic designers or English Majors drafting critiques and manuscript edits, fixing technical bugs that have driven more experienced animators mad with frustration, and so on.
