The Sims community is a place of big ideas, storytellers, content-makers, and creators of all kinds. Our players inspire us to keep looking for new ways to tell universal stories, and to continue to invite collaboration and creativity from all kinds of Simmers to help shape the game we all love. For this edition of You Make the Sims we’re sitting down with SixamCC to take a look at what inspired the Storybook Nursery Kit and how he and The Sims team brought it to life!

SixamCC (also known as Alex) is well-known in The Sims community as a custom content creator and 3D Digital artist. A lover of both video games and Japanese fluffy pancakes–a winning combination, tbh–SixamCC works in the creative field and spends his free time creating CC for the community he loves..

Like many players, SixamCC was introduced to the game by a family member, and knew from that first playthrough it was going to be one of his favorite games.

THE SIMS TEAM: Tell us about how you were first introduced to The Sims and what inspired you to start making custom content.

SIXAMCC: My cousin was a big fan of The Sims at the time, and she told me about The Sims 2 and how fun it was. She told me all about the endless possibilities and opportunities to tell every imaginable story with the game, which sounded fascinating to me. One day, she brought the Deluxe CD to my house and got me to install it. Ever since then, I knew it was one of my favorite games.

I’ve always wanted to make my own custom content for my Sims, but I never had the time to get into it. During the 2020 lockdown, I finally decided to try it out, and I found the process so fascinating and fun.

THE SIMS TEAM: Kit collaborations are some of our favorite things to work on, because of amazing creators like you who pitch a concept to The Sims team. As a creator, how do you approach creating a new concept from scratch?

SIXAMCC: I always ask myself what kind of stories I want to tell with the concepts I design. I like to go beyond just decorating a room. I think the game allows you to create your own stories without needing specific new gameplay, which is why I aim for my ideas to have something unique and interesting to explore.

THE SIMS TEAM: How did the idea of ‘legacy’ play into what you wanted to create?

SIXAMCC: I truly believe our most iconic Sims characters have set the perfect example of legacy; Bella and Mortimer have shared a story that has stood the test of time and distance, we’ve seen them in different life stages throughout the games. This is what inspired me to create this Kit—a space, or in this case a nursery room, where every legacy story can take place.

THE SIMS TEAM: What kinds of stories do you hope to see Simmers tell with this pack?

SIXAMCC: I want players to have the chance to expand their legacy storytelling in any way they dream of. I've seen some truly amazing family trees from players who’ve spent years crafting the perfect legacy family, and I think that’s just fantastic. This kit is perfect for kicking off a new generation and keeping it going strong.

For those who’ve never tried it before, I invite you to start with this kit . I know it can be tough to say goodbye to our favorite Sims, but sometimes that’s part of the fun of creating new stories. (And hey, you can always bring them back to life!)

THE SIMS TEAM: You've created so many wonderful items for children and infants in the past; what interests you the most about designing and making objects for younger Sims?

SIXAMCC: Making content for younger Sims is just fun. You can experiment with different silhouettes and bright colors, and still provide swatches and options for more serious players. I feel like my creativity flows more freely when I work on content for kids. I also love to hear from my community and they’ve been pretty clear about loving children's items.

THE SIMS TEAM: This kit has a real air of elegance to it; is there a particular object you knew you had to include to make this feel like an elevated nursery?

SIXAMCC: Oh what a difficult question, the truth is that each of the elements that make up this kit are perfect and I can't imagine any of them being left out. But if I had to choose I think it would be the canopy, I'm sure the players will use it to give that extra bit of elegance to their little ones rooms.

THE SIMS TEAM: Do you have a favorite detail or easter egg you’d be willing to share?

SIXAMCC: I love all the easter eggs in this Kit, I would like to mention them all! I won’t spoil them! but I think one of my favorites without a doubt is the hanging mobile where, if you zoom in close enough, we can actually see Bella in the hot air balloon. It certainly brings back a lot of nostalgic feelings from The Sims 2.

THE SIMS TEAM: You’ve collaborated with other Sims community members in the past; are there any creators you’d really love to work with some day?

SIXAMCC: I could start listing all the people that come to mind, and we’d probably run out of time for the interview, haha. There are so many talented Simmers I admire, both as individuals and as content creators, modders, and other CC creators. I’d absolutely love to work with all of them, but the truth is, I’m super shy and I always hesitate when I think of asking. (Some people are going to laugh when they read this, but I promise it’s true!)

For now I can say that I would love to collaborate with Juno Birch and Trixie Mattel; I love their style and I think something extremely cool and unique would come out of it.

THE SIMS TEAM: For anyone who’d like to start creating their own digital art, is there any advice you’d give them?

SIXAMCC: (Looks at the camera) You, yes, you, don’t overthink it, just do it.

Honestly, it can seem scary, but the most important thing is to just dive in and give it a shot. There are so many places out there now where you can get help and learn whatever you need. And as they say, practice makes perfect, right? It doesn’t have to be perfect on the first try.

THE SIMS TEAM: You answers have been so great, so let’s end on a truly tricky question:

SIXAMCC: This is a tough one because Jenni, from The Sims team, made me love the possum that we made for this kit, but I think I'll probably choose a sloth one because it's my absolute favorite animal.

About me💃🏼 Hi, my name is Leslie and I identify as a broken Sims patch update \(ツ)/ I mean well and do my best, but sometimes I'm glitchy. But hopefully, my builds never will be!

Base Game only? Nope! 🏡 I own almost every Sims 4 expansion pack, game pack, stuff pack, and kit - and I intend to use them! That's not to say I'll never have builds that are base game only, but if that's what you're in search of, I'm probably not the right creator for you.

Custom content🎨 I also own a decent amount of custom content from amazing creators who make Build/Buy and CAS items - and I intend to use those, too! I will always provide a list of the custom content used in each build in the description of each release. I don't make my own custom content at the moment (but never say never).

Playtesting ▶️ I'll never roll out a build that hasn't been playtested. I'm not about builds for the sake of aesthetics - I want them to work! And if for some weird reason I do release without playtesting, I'ma call that out in the release post.

Anybody interested in converting this set for TS3?

I don’t know how to do conversions yet. I thought I’d look at some tutorials and do it, but I just haven’t had the time lately and I don’t want the people who would like this set for their Sims 3 game to have to wait forever, if they don’t have to.

If you are interested, please go ahead & do it & upload it for your TS3 followers :) Just maybe let me know you’re going to do it so that more than one person doesn’t end up putting all the work in. I’m not experienced with this procedure so please let me know if there is anything else you need. These items are recolors from TS4, so if you need me to get the exact item names for example, (I have no idea what is needed but I want to be helpful if I can.)

Does anyone know if there are Sims 4 CC makers who would be open to collab? For a while, I've been wanting to get my own hairstyle in the sims, and I know there's no way it will ever be in a pack because it's too out there. I've tried making it myself, but I'm very bad at it, and the pieces I'd need don't really exist in the game for me to piece together myself.

If anyone wants to do it, I can do all the necessary concept art, including swatches (I even have ideas for alternate styles using the same haircut based on different ways I style my hair, but that's probably too ambitious)

I know it's probably not gonna happen, but I figured I'd shoot my shot and give it a try.

A few random Legacy smp thoughts:

I hate the trope of ‘no time to explain’. If you got time to say that there is no time to explain, you have time to say, idk, ‘the withers are attacking you have to escape!’

We don’t know what happened to Logic Yet, I suspect it’ll be something like the withers trying to close the server? But like. Why logic. Why him, specifically. Why do the other legates not matter to the withers?

I think that my Compact Timeline for legacy smp now is that it takes place over at most four months or so. Maybe less I don’t have it exactly pinned down.

legacy suffered a lot character wise by no one uploading the last few months. those nonstory episodes help make a server feel more alive and flesh out the actual cc’s personalities in regards to legacy. without knowing truly bedrock I don’t think I’d be able to put a pin on beardstone’s personality Legacy wise.

however a lot of their personality is also tied simply to Logic. Thomas is there because he’s a Logic fanboy. Avo is there cause he wants to save Logic. i like logic but I hope without him the individual characters will stop er, moping and start showing off their personality. Think of how Poppy, despite being another stream only, established her character in the beginning of Legacy through other people’s videos and streams. And that character still defines how we see her. i’m not even sure the legates realize they’re doing this. but because of seeing her through Zloy’s videos and Logic’s videos beyond just a lore context, we see Poppy’s personality as this warriorish woman. it’s great. Angst is great but it is the spice to a character, not the only meal.

(note I do think thomas is one of the ones who has a personality it just is really tied into logic atm)

BTD and Thomas are both scientists/engineers. So is Beardie in TB lore. Amy immediately went to start a theme park so she has something there I can’t pin down. Malcolm kinda… didn’t do much in Legacy. Kim streamed a lot but she didn’t appear in anyone’s videos too much Which makes it harder to pin how she wants to see the Character side of herself. Maybe in s3 she’ll have more collabs with video makers.

also the legates climbing out of the underground to a bunch of new people feels like they hijacked a different smp… which is hilarious to imagine those people being like “yay we’re gonna have a new original smp wait who are those people oh no—“

Firstly thank you! Most of the clothing in AxA is 99% ayoshi with me going in after and cleaning/adding some stuff. So I give him props for the clothes :P As far as a ‘new PTS’ style group idk, there are a lot of amazing creators on simblr but I think the reason PTS was such a special thing is because the bond they all had. I feel that when working on collabs with some of my really close friends (such as the one coming out this month with @dogsill​ and @ayoshi​) because we have known each other for over 2 years now. A group of friends built only for collabing purposes would be more of a hassle than an enjoyment imo. <3

It varies every month to be honest lmao. If you asked me to pick a favorite hair from each month? Easy, always the last release of the month. But favorite hair ever? Awwww shucks 🤠 lmao I would say my Madison Hair is one of my favorite hair releases, I am planning to revamp it soon to work with my Mia ombre accessories and tidy the mesh up some.

zip your Sims 4 folder and upload it to Google Drive/SimsFileShare/OneDrive. Then when you install Sims 4 again you just replace the folder made in Electronic Arts in your Documents.

Okay, so I'm going to explain why this person is literally out of their mind. First and foremost, let's talk about this whole "copyright" issue. Harry Potter, and the entire cast of characters, the setting of Hogwarts, etc. All of that shit...belongs to J.K Rowling. The only reason movies got made, and posters and all sorts of fan "merch" get sold each year...is because J.K Rowling sold off some of her rights to the characters to specific parties. THIS CREATOR IS NOT ONE OF THEM. The fucking audacity you must have to try to make money off of HER intellectual property, while also gatekeeping content you've made from your own community is fucking sick. EA DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO BLATENTLY DO THIS, BECAUSE THEY MADE "HARRY PUFFER" TO TRY TO NOT INFRINGE ON HER COPYRIGHT. Second, let's also talk about the fact that ALL CREATORS are using EA'S PLATFORM to host your content. The sims 4 is EA's platform. Without the sims 4, none of your precious "custom content" would remotely WORK. So unless you just took the 3D models and sold them elsewhere {which I don't know why this creator isn't doing that since you seem to think you're such a damn hotshot}, you need to follow by EA's rules of their platform. It's the same regardless of where you upload. For example, if you made a youtube video and you posted something that was against their terms of service {ex: child porn, or a pyramid scheme, or a virus within your video}...youtube would have ALL the rights in the world to pull down your video from their platform and delete your account. Because you posted that video on their platform. Even if ALL of the video was "your content" because you put it on their platform as a method of display, you have to abide by their rules. It's the same idea for if you enter art into a gallery. The gallery owners have a specific theme or a collection they are aiming to display. For example, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art would not be interested in a Claude Monet piece, because he wasn't an American artist. Not because his art isn't good, but just because it doesn't fit the guidelines of their collection. EA has stated it doesn't want people who are creating CC who are going to be permapaywalling using their platform/assets/tuning/files to do so. What is so hard about that to understand? I know that a lot of people want to be like FUCK EA AND FUCK THEIR CORPERATE GREED but at the same time, they have the ability to remove your ability to use their platform (ex: the gallery/your origin account) if you don't comply. Let's also mention that this creator, while trying to get at least $1000 by promising content and not delivering it in any way...is not even "done" with the big project they are promising. No WONDER they have less than two dozen people fleeced into their scheme? This is insane and @sonyabelkasgames should 100% be ashamed. Because while they go on and on about their "rights" they are 100% fine with trampling on the rights of others. {Not to mention they literally aren't okay with using patreon for what it was designed and basically want to lead people on with no promise of anything real? Nothing. It’s just short version of Fluffytail-Zombie, a name that I’ve been using since 2011 when I made my DA account and I haven’t changed because I really love it!

-When did you start making art?

According to my mom the answer is “always”. Since I was a baby (less than one year old)

-Art school history? Or Self taught? Both!?

Both. Kinda. Currently I’m studying a graphic design (I’ll graduate in December 2018) and I’ve been in different art school since I was 8. From them I’ve learned a lot about traditional art (but of course I have to self taught myself a bit). When it comes to digital art I’m self taught but I’ve been in couple digital art classes in my current school.

-What you use for drawing?

For digital art: mainly Paint Tool SAI. Sometimes I use MS Paint /and or Photoshop CC 2018 with or without SAI

For traditional art: various markers, water colors etc. Complete list will be posted later

Yup. If you know how to use something well, use it! Even if it is a “cheap” program

-How you edit your Youtube videos and how long it takes?

I used to use Windows Movie Maker but now I use Adobe Premier CC 2017. Editing can take days or a week. It depends on the project
