Excerpt:

Bobby settled down into the hard backed chair in the stuffy, seldom used, dining room, tense muscles relaxing as he heard Tommy call from the kitchen, his stiff lips curving up into a smile. He felt safe and relaxed in the familiar atmosphere, soft rock playing from the record player, some romantic song that just yesterday Tommy had been teasing him about. He rolled his deep blue eyes, as if Tommy didn’t listen to sappy stuff on a daily basis.

There was smoke wafting through the kitchen, a curse, some odd clambering and banging of pots and pans, something falling hard on the ground. Bobby was just about out of his seat when Tommy stuck his head out from around the corner, both coming face to face, with a concerned look plastered over the brunette’s features, an eyebrow raised and Bobby assessed the damage that was his boyfriend, god it still felt strange to acknowledge, his boyfriend, in a terribly stained shirt, something like tomato sauce, Bobby hoped it was tomato sauce, the alternative was not acceptable in the slightest, his hair usually combed, was now frizzy from the heat of the stove and countless trips of nervous fingers, and again Bobby raised an eyebrow “Is everything alright?” Bobby asked to Tommy nodding fervently, to which Bobby nodded back and leaned back, hands resting on his hips “Great then, did I just see some smoke though? Funny I could have sworn...” Tommy kissed him, shepherding him back into the red walled dining room “Yeah yeah, dinner’s almost done, nothing to worry about,”

Bobby’s lips formed into a knowing smile “Good, can’t wait,” Tommy’s nervous laugh was enough for him to get the situation as the other boy fled back into the kitchen, accompanied by a flurry of nervous quiet curses.

Bobby rested back on the chair to open his eyes minutes later when a silver tray of — Twinkies appeared in front of his face and he quirked his nose up in slight confusion, eyes alighting on his boyfriend’s bright red face

“Please tell me this is just your idea of a joke? Where’s the actual food?” Tommy just gave him a strained chuckle and Bobby blinked at the tray and the bottle of wine in Tommy’s other hand “No, really? Where’s the food?” “Uhhhh, right here,” was an answer he got and he rolled his eyes “Tommy that’s definitely not food, that’s preservatives on a plate,” he stood up and started walking to the kitchen “I’ll just pop in here and— oh,” he looked about the scene, pots and pans stacked in chaotic little rows, jars , bowls, a half charred steak, salad on the ground, Bobby turned to see his boyfriend hanging by the door “Alright, I guess it’s the Twinkies then,” he stated, nose scrunching in distaste, he took the bottle of wine and opened it, pulling out the cork “I guess it’s not that bad...” Tommy rolled his eyes “It’s the height of elegance, Bobby, the country club has it on Sundays,” he joked while Bobby laughed, shrugging “Twinkies and wine? Oh, that’s real class... you really know how to show a guy a good time, Tommy.” and pressing his lips to his, he smiled “How bout I treat you to a burger and a milkshake?”
