Touchstarved x The Amazing Devil

Since I use a bunch of The Amazing Devil songs on my Touchstarved OC playlists, I decided to match them to each of the main LIs. They're mostly the romantic songs, I highlighted the words that made me think of the characters.

Kuras= “Inkpot Gods.” Fighting god for the one you love. Walking a lonely path. The wild feeling of breaking free from the fate you thought you were bound to, the one you believed you deserved. Rewriting tragedy into redemption.

“Oh, what? These, these aren't tears. It's just the rain that wasn't brave enough to fall.”

“And what you see is not the dark, It’s just the gods upturning ink pots 'cause they know what you’ll become.”

Leander= “Fair.” Mostly just vibes. Maybe it’s the gentle guitar, the autumnal sound. A space of solace, so achingly and heartwarmingly normal. The hint of insecurity and bitterness toward the world. The charming awkwardness and humour. I don’t know, this song sounds like Leander's giving you a hug. XD

Vere= “That Unwanted Animal.” It’s either feral in a horny way or horny in a feral way. I don’t know which. Both, maybe? I imagine this is what it’d be like if Vere devoured you.

"I'm the touch you crave, I'm the plans that you made, But fuck all your plans, I'm bored! ‘And can't you hear that scratching?’ I ask your eyes."

Ais= “Ruin.” The wreckage after a storm. The strength and the fight inside you that has helped you survive until now being the very thing that destroys what matters to you. Ill-timed jokes. Unspoken regrets. Second chances among the ruin. Also the bird sounds throughout, because, you know. Sparrow. Hehe.

"Our mortar was your laughter And you hurled curses at the land. We didn't talk, we made universes Out of bitten lips and broken hands." This is basically the summary of Ais's scenes in the demo

Mhin= “Drinking Song for the Socially Anxious.” Not belonging, but desperately wanting to. Screaming silence and yearning to be heard. Chance meetings with someone else on the outside looking in. Being outsiders together. Oh, and there’s a cat.

"And I know I won't be long 'Cause I know I don't belong."

"As all my steps too far keep telling me 'This is who you are,' I should go home. I'm not lonely. I just like being on my own."

The song "Lavender Forever" by Jake Wesley Rogers makes me so happy; it is a beautiful piece by itself that I play on repeat. But of course, I can't shut off my Sonic Nerd brain, and I will always think of connections to Sonic characters in everything I consume daily, especially when a song feels like a character theme. And this song feels very much like a Sonadow song to me. In my head, it paints me a sweet picture of Shadow's perspective about Sonic.

The "Lavender Forever" instrumental is whimsical and calm but also a bit bouncy, which reminds me of Sonic's sunny, chill, and life-loving energy. The fluttery piano melody/runs in the song remind me of the "His World" motif showcased heavily by the strings section in the Sonic 06 soundtrack. Windy, playful, ready for new adventures. Considering these vibes and similarities for the Sonadow theme, I like to think that the "Lavender Forever" instrumental, which heavily clashes with Shadow's canon gritty rock themes, can be a representation that Sonic is on Shadow's mind and he can't shake him out. The following is a little story tidbit that plays in my head when listening to the song:

Shadow secretly admires the fierce ray of sunshine that Sonic is, admitting he can't help but be pulled in by the compassionate yet wild force of nature that he is. While they competitively spar, having differing approaches and different personalities, Shadow allows himself to feel comforted by the curious, sweet and warm acceptance that Sonic radiates just by being himself...which then makes Shadow realize that the missing feeling of wholeness in his life is remedied when Sonic is by his side (IMO could be either platonic, romantic, or QPR vibes depending on how you interpret the term "lover", or if you ignore the word).

Y’know, thinking about (Estranged Flower Siblings AU) Geo Kaeya and Cryo Albedo’s Visions and moveset, and how they’d still be the same conceptually except the elements’ VFXs would be different made me realize something:

Even though there are only seven Vision elements in Teyvat, each character’s Skill and Burst are all unique to their own settings/themes (at least more unique than just having the same seven VFX for the seven elements). The visual effects artists have done a great job on it…

For example, Zhongli and Albedo both have the Geo element, but their Skills and Bursts are very different.

Zhongli is mature, calm, and ancient. But he’s an Archon and a very powerful one at that.

His visual motifs include stones and dragons, and maybe the visual of stone peaks with clouds (as seen in his Wish visual). Therefore his Skill is a rising Stone Stele (ancient, simplistic, sturdy) while his Burst is a falling meteor, specifically a Chinese cross (ancient, powerful, has big impact).

Albedo is also mature, calm, and ancient. But he’s a homunculus and appears to be a short young man (at least, according to his in-game model). He’s a highly intelligent and graceful individual associated with the concept of “birth”, and his scope of knowledge is far beyond the average person.

His visual motifs include radially symmetric flowers (the one in his Skill is comparable to sunflowers) and the Khaenri’ahn star. Therefore his Skill is a flower platform rising up (graceful, metaphor for scope of knowledge is far above average), and his Burst is a wave of Tectonic Tide visually similar to flower pedals donning the Khaenri’ahn star mark (graceful, ancient, but with hidden power).

IDK why it fits so well with the character for me. But in my brain the past theme of Metallic Madness for the Japanese soundtrack to the videogame Sonic CD IS Mars' song.

Maybe it's the robotic feel or the fast beat... It just sounds like something he'd listen to while playing around or on a mission from Yamanoue.

Lemme just summon and annoy the three other JM fans I know to get their opinion when they have the time.

Random Thought:

I recently have been listening to Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift. I looked at the lyrics and I feel like it fit Chloé perfectly. Especially if you look at her through a sympathetic lens.

It’s just those lines:

It just make me think about Chloé especially since how mishandled her character has been with the “looks like I have been redeemed. Nah I’m still the mean girl” schtick. Along with the line 🎶 Pierced through the heart, but never killed 🎶 considering how much been dragged through this series with constantly reopening old wounds that should’ve been healed seasons ago.

I agree she does deserve consequences when earned. She has done horrible things. But from a writer’s perspective, I feel a lot of this should’ve had a major shake up or put it to rest once they firmly refused to redeem her. That’s just my opinion. But this post isn’t supposed to be a long rant or a deep analysis. I just wanted to point out something I noticed.

Can anyone else see what I thinking here?
