Okay, season 5 left us with A TON of complicated things still left to work through, but I'ma shove all that drama to the side to propose the possibilities.

I present to you half-reveal Adrinette-dating, where Marinette finds out Adrien is Chat Noir, and he knows that she found out. For reasons, she doesn't tell him she's Ladybug cause they're already in loooooooove~ Just imagine! Super-aggressive-protective-of-Marinette-Chat Noir during akuma attacks, relentles superhero/civilian flirting, moonlit Eiffel tower dates cause Chat can bring her there when no one else is around. Heck, even Adrien 'introducing' her to Plagg and getting to hang out with Marinette, then mercilessly teasing them both for being absolute dorks. It's basically Marichat all over again but on CRACK and I am HERE FOR IT.

You know, I just watched the inferior English dub of Psycomedian and got reminded of why it always annoyed the hell out of me whenever I watch English dubs... Miraculous or not.

The English dub sounds like the voice actors are recording episodes on their own rather than performing together. In other words, it's painstakingly obvious to me that there is no interaction between the voice actors, which hurts the overall performance of the characters, and in turn my enjoyment of English dub. Like where is the flow?!

Idk how the dubbing industry in France is like, but I believe that they make use of Group Voice Acting. I can hear that the voice actors are performing together, that they are having conversations (and having fun) with each other rather than just reading from their scripts. They are able to work off each other while recording in a group, and it's also why the French dub sounds so much more natural to me.

It's the reason why tons of people who watch the French dub of Miraculous can unanimously say that Ladybug is clownbug and Chat Noir is simpnoir, that ladynoir is super flirty whenever they are on screen (I cried when I hear how ladynoir interacted in the English dub of Gabriel Agreste, where is the flirtiness that is present in the French dub!!! 😩and more recently in Psycomedian when Ladybug summoned her 1st lucky charm, the playfulness between them is completely gone 😩), that Ladybug isn't actually annoyed with Chat Noir (I am looking at you Prime Queen and Kuro Neko.) but it's just him saying and doing his flirting at the wrong time, and that she will actually play along and be flirty with him as well when the time is right, that you can hear how much they care and love each other (the whole lovesquare mind you), and on and on the list goes.

Obviously you can prefer the English dub over the French do I really need to say this? But this is just my two cents on the topic which I think hasn't been touched upon by anyone, and would encourage anyone who wants to have the full Miraculous experience to watch it in the (what I consider original) French dub, and if not for the above mentioned reason, do it for the other reasons many have been sharing.

The way y'all talk about Ladynoir conflict made it seem like Ladybug beat the crap out of Chat Noir not kept a secret away from him and flirted with another teammate as if her and Chat Noir are not partners and nothing more. She's not allowed to date because he's in love with her? Funny you didn't say the same thing about Adrien when he turned to Kagami in Miracle Queen and broke Marinette's heart or when he rejected Ladybug's "pound it" for Kagami for literally no reason. At least Chat Noir got apology, Maribug got NOTHING and do you see me hating him for it? No, cuz they're allowed to date other people. Wait, no, I forgot, he's allowed to date other people and have a life. She isn't. I remember what you said clearly.

Miraculous Ladybug AU where, like in the deleted scene from the movie, Marinette only recently moved to Paris from China so she barely speaks any French. And all of Paris thinks Ladybug is this cold, calculating, silent badass cause she never speaks in interviews, leaving Chat Noir to do enough talking for both of them.

Until one day, Chat Noir is all like "My dear, dear, lady. We have been working together for so long, and I've come to believe we are close. But you never talk to me. You never respond to my jokes. You never consider my flirts. You never fill me in on your plans. Did I do something to upset you? Please, if so, let me atone. Let us be friends and partners, M'lady" And Ladybug just looks at him for a while before saying, in very broken French. "My... French... very bad..." and Chat Noir has to reconsider everything he thought he knew about Ladybug. Then they both realize they speak Mandarin Chinese and just start blabbering on and on to each other during fights and patrols.

Which then gives Adrien the idea to approach the weirdly quiet girl in his class to see if she maybe also doesn't know French. Blah blah, Adrien and Mari talk all the time and Marinette gets better at French cause of him.

a very happy anniversary to passion aka one of the episodes that made me lose my marbles aka the episode in which:

marinette unashamedly fawns over chat noir in the presence of an exasperated alya, pastel pink romantic montage with roses included

adrien thinks about marinette throughout his entire morning routine while saying her name to himself like a mantra and literally drawing her face on his bathroom window

gabriel and nathalie have a custody battle under the guise of talking about pancakes

nathalie yearns for- i mean mourns emilie

adrien tells marinette that she’s special and that her mere presence is enough to make him happy in the most tender voice one can possibly imagine while looking at her with eyes that scream “I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU”

chat noir says the phrase “hashtag run!” before yeeting a paralysed ladybug over a bus

lady noire flirts with compliments mister bug by saying that his suit “brings out the colour” of his eyes

lady noire scolds safari and says that no one is allowed to flatten her partner’s “gorgeous face”

lady noire straight up says that only she is allowed to pursue mister bug

did i mention that lady noire is horrendously, indisputably down bad for mister bug

lady noire asks mister bug for a kiss goodbye but ahahaha nooo she was only joking!!! she knows that the thing she’s forgotten to do is to swap their miraculous again. obviously.

Marinette and Adrien are dating and they are so, so happy but Marinette can’t help feeling like something is missing. Adrien is the perfect boyfriend, the perfect gentleman, so she feels like something is wrong with her—and then she realizes that what’s missing is Chat Noir.

She’s in love with Chat, always has been, and now that he’s moved on and found a girlfriend and stopped flirting with her she feels like something got carved out of her chest. And yeah they’re still best friends, still partners, but something about their easy camaraderie feels poisoned.

And Adrien simply isn’t Chat. He doesn’t have the same goofy side to him that she’s come to love.

She’s torn. She loves Adrien, she does, but she loves Chat too, and how is she supposed to choose between them? But she knows that if she did have to, she’d choose Chat, and it’s tearing her up inside.

Eventually, she tells Chat everything. How she feels like a monster for it. How she can barely eat because of it. Because she is in love with her boyfriend, she wants to marry him, but she is in love with Chat and she needs him like she needs air to breathe.

She and Adrien end up breaking up because he realizes she’s unhappy with him, even though he can’t figure out why. (Surprisingly, Ladybug’s confession is not part of his decision. He loves Marinette and wants her to be happy, even if it’s not with him.) That night, Ladynoir meet up, and Ladybug confesses to Chat again, and asks him out.

They decide to reveal identities.

About four blocks of Paris get to hear a very loud Ladybug scream of “SON OF A FUCKING BITCH”

(Luckily they both take it very well and they’re back to goo-ily dating each other within the hour, if slightly more goofy and relaxed with each other going forward)

i really appreciate that the miraculous ladybug writers knew they wanted to reverse the love square, but they also wanted to stick to the established characterization of marinette being terrible at flirting and cringey around the person she likes, and ladybug being WAY more confident and self-assured. and the marriage of those concepts is ladybug very confidently saying the boldest and flirtiest shit imaginable to chat noir and then IMMEDIATELY wanting to punch herself in the face

Fanfic Idea

Ugh! I had this idea to write a fic about what-if Marinette was evil instead of Gabriel! But now with the whole Shadybug and Claw Noir special coming, I feel I have to wait, so things like 'Good Gabriel's good guy name' and what he calls who makes heroes (currently I'm calling them champion but I don't know anything) are more accurate to the show!

Plot

Essentially, it would've been in this universe, so no Shadybug. Instead, her name would've been Miss Fortune (I've been in this fandom since the beginning, I've always wanted that name to be canon). She takes the image of a shy sweet girl Marinette Dupain-Cheng but when things don't go her way, she becomes Miss Fortune.

Luckily, Paris has a hero in its corner, the amazing Chat Noir who battles the evil Miss Fortune. However, he also has an ally in the form of Papillon, a mysterious benefactor who helps him by sending him champions.

Characters

Adrien will still be our innocent sunshine child, but he has a whole lot more on his shoulders, trying to stop Miss Fortune from wrecking havoc and eventually becoming Guardian.

As Chat Noir, he and the champion have to work together to fight Miss Fortune. I have this system where Miss Fortune has a anti-charm (like Anti-bug) and if the two destroy it, the world healing begins.

Alya is still how she is in the show. Except she despises Miss Fortune. Her blog is towards Chat instead and she insults Miss Fortune anyway she can. She wants to rid the world of Miss Fortune, unaware she's her best friend.

Chloe would be a much better person (she still has some of her original flaws, so she would be not be like Zoe), liking Adrien like a brother and treating Sabrina like a real friend. Of course, Marinette doesn't see their relationship as platonic so she targets her. This version of Anti-Bug would've have Papillon give Chloe the power of the original Ladybug miraculous until Chat decides to give her the bee miraculous to use.

Lila would've been a person who always told the truth and while not all of her stories from canon were true, she does have some real amazing tales. This attracts Adrien to her (again platonically) much to Marinette's chagrin. One story is that Miss Fortune stole her bag once and Chat Noir got it back for her. Marinette thinks Lila is lying and Chat doesn't remember Lila specifically but he does remember giving someone back their bag.

So she briefly becomes Miss Fortune to embarrass her but this just inspires her to become Volpina and her and Chat briefly work together to take her down.

Gabriel is a much better father here! He's still busy and Emilie is still dead. But he's allowed Adrien to go to school and have a less stricter lifestyle. He still misses his wife but goes on a more healthier path instead and tries to move on while helping Chat Noir as Papillon.

Zoe would've been a person who acted nice when in reality, she's a massive witch. She still has feelings for Marinette but Marinette takes advantage of these feeling instead. She assist Miss Fortune also, not liking when things don't go her way. Half of Chloe becoming akumatized episodes would be Chloe either needing the bee miraculous or her helping Chat as a champion. Zoe would play dumb when confronted but some people start seeing the truth through her and Marinette's lies.

Shipping

So Marinette likes Adrien to disturbing degrees. Finding her strange since kindergarten, Adrien at best can be civil towards her. In the Animan episode of this AU, he would've weirded out by Nino's crush on her but would've still helped him, because he's a good friend and he feels he would be a good influence of her.

He and Miss Fortune jokingly flirt with each other sometimes, but they really hate each other with a fiery passion.

Adrien is bisexual in this fic. Who is Adrien's partner? Luka. Instead of liking Marinette, he takes a shining to Adrien instead. Adrien is smitten as both himself and Chat Noir. Luka would be a frequent character in season 1. Often times, Chloe and Juleka (and sometimes Nino) would try pairing them together frequently.

Marinette used to have a crush to Luka and he used to give her a chance but with all the lying and her accidently making it clear she likes Adrien, he also can now only be civil to her.

Chloe is also bisexual. Nathaniel initially has feelings for her instead of Marinette in 'Evilluastor'. Season 1 would plenty of cute moments. Not sure I should write whether they broke up but are on good terms or have them be in a poly relationship with Marc and Kagami.

Down the line, Chloe gains feelings for Kagami. Marinette in this AU, never lets go of her mean feelings for Kagami and instead Kagami enters the scavenger hunt in 'Ikati Gozen' with Chloe, causing the two to bond. Kagami never has feelings for Adrien (but I'll say it again, Marinette doesn't see it that way).

The love square in Miraculous Ladybug seems so simple (“hey, that Superman-Lois-Clark thing? What if it went both ways?”), but I am in awe of how finely tuned and balanced it is. Both to make it plausible, and to make it interesting.

The show goes to great lengths to show that all sides (and in particular the two main ones) are absolutely realistic options if it weren’t for the rest. Adrien always liked Marinette and has been positively smitten with her since about season 2. Ladybug was always fond of Chat Noir and this has only increased. The one major time where Ladybug officially rejected Chat Noir, in Glaciator, was also one of the softest and genuinely most romantic moments between the two.

And at the same time, they didn’t make it too simple. The love square is not symmetric when you look at the details. Marinette’s feelings for Adrien and Chat Noir mirror his for Ladybug and Marinette to some extent at a very high level, but if you look down at the details, they’re all developing differently, at different paces, for different reasons, all the time. Chat Noir is the big romantic flirt. Marinette is head over heels and thwarted by anxiety. Both like grand gestures, but for Marinette it’s gifts, for Chat Noir it’s big events.

The show looks so simple, and I guess parts of it are. But the way our heroes interact in the love square is anything but, and that’s what makes it so much fun to watch.

I think more fic writers should copy ideas from other writers. Specifically, ideas from OTHER fandoms.

For example, it's a big thing in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom that someone from the future comes and drops Adrien and Marinette's baby on them. I WANT 19YR OLD ZORO AND SANJI TAKING CARE OF THEIR FUTURE DAUGHTER(s).

I want Adrien getting hit by an akuma that turns him 12-13 years old, right after he's lost his mom, and Marinette has to take care of him and in the process he learns about all his trauma. (Sanji age regression AU)

I want Sanji cracking puns like Chat Noir!!!!! I want Zoro flirting with Sanji unabashedly and Sandji thinking its a bit!!!
