i like the convenience of cup noodles in terms of being able to make lunch using nothing but the hot water dispenser at work, but i hate the amount of trash. but whenever i look up diy cup noodles it's all fancy recipes for healthy alternatives to cup noodles, which i do not give a shit about. so i finally cracked a brick of ramen into quarters and shoved it in a mason jar, then poured 180F water in there to see if it would work. it seemed like it should but so many websites were telling me to parboil my noods that i was starting to doubt myself.

it worked! my only note is that i shook the sealed jar at the end to disperse the flavor packet and in retrospect i should also have done that at the beginning. i could probably do this with better bouillon and some tasty spices if i wanted. also there is room in there for frozen veggies. but mostly this an easy way to convert a 30¢ ramen packet to a 52¢ cup noodle without any extra trash.

thinking about the public domain is more than a little devastating to me like they’ve literally taken so much from us. the corporatization of art and culture has locked away american cultural heritage for longer and longer periods of time! the original term for public domain was 56 years think about that. almost 40 more years. i hope we all live 40 more years but who knows. and how much of that art will degrade and disappear in the meantime! things are lost every day! truly and genuinely it’s such a loss for the independent artist i want people to be able to adapt things from the ‘60s into shitty plays that they put on at their local rec centers and to make money off of that but we can’t because of corporate greed

if I have any unpopular minecraft opinion at all its that I think it should stop updating at some point and probably not that far from now. for all people bitch and moan about insufficient updates minecraft is a miracle in that it’s mostly free of the issues of modern "live service" games - although bedrock particularly has its microtransaction marketplace. but over a decade of free updates is offset by the bald truth that the only reason it gets updates (all of which you can revert since past versions including snapshots are always available!) is to feed the obsession with the game and, circularly, the internet content vortex made by people who love the game/can profit off others' love of it which generates more people who discover and love the game, which is how sales can be made when by and large the player base makes one purchase that nets them years of new content.

I love the new updates, I look forward to them, I've spent money on EA games as an adult so I'm very grateful they come to me for free. but their purpose is to ensure mc stays relevant and selling - itself, merch, spin-off games, etc. I don't envy the devs who are crushed between player entitlement to always more and corporate interests whose large scale preoccupations with brand integrity are more poisonous than any irate yt commenter yelling about how not vanilla 1.56 is going to be. basically I hope it dies before it gets crushed under the weight of cultural and capitalistic sicknesses it already has and that the often intolerable, crass sentimentalism of its fan base allows people to see its ceasing to update as a gift and not taking away what they're owed.

i feel like a lot of tiny house discourse misses the actual early appeal of the tiny house concept, which is that if you tried to build yourself a house out of old wood pallets you scrounged from behind walmart you would quickly run into a lot of problems with zoning and building codes and taxes and just. the law. in general. whereas if you build a house tiny enough to fit on top of a trailer with wheels on it. that's not, legally speaking, a permanent structure or residence. that's an rv at best. it can be as shitty and unsafe as you want it to be and no one can stop you. a nice tiny house costs as much or more than just buying a manufactured home, but a fire hazard made of garbage on a trailer is, in general, a bargain until it kills you.
