my last post about ukrainian soldiers and soup had the most notes ever. it was just a funny picture i found on twitter but the most beautiful things on tumblr happen in reblogs: @julibernardo showed us a charity which supplies soup in ukraine and @lovingsomeplants went to donate. a year ago i drove a bus full of donated food to ukrainian border. so what World Central Kitchen is doing hits home. just went and donated myself.

What's Next for José Andrés and World Central Kitchen? (5/5)

This is the first time José Andrés and WCK have entered a war zone, and yet somehow they are seemingly doing more than ever for the people of Ukraine.

Andrés and his team entered Ukraine just days after the initial invasion. They began by setting up kitchens on the country's borders so that those who were fleeing would have food as they waited for entry to bordering and other nearby countries, including Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, and Germany. From there, they set up kitchens across Ukraine for those who decided to stay as soon as it was safe to do so. They have also provided water, seeds (home gardens are incredibly common in Ukraine), and other supplies (1, 2).

WCK remains in Ukraine, proving that there truly are no limits to what they can achieve nor the number of people they can help.

The majority of events that necessitate a response from WCK are caused or worsened by climate change: from wildfires in California and Spain, to Hurricane Ian in Florida, intense rainfall and flooding in Pakistan and beyond, relief is needed more than ever. Climate change causes catastrophic disasters that drive people from their homes, leaving them without access to food. In 2021, WCK launched their Climate Disaster Fund and committed to raising and spending $1billion to provide immediate assistance and food relief for those affected or displaced by natural disasters. They have a ten year plan, and in the meantime they are applying public pressure on world leaders to create long-term climate policies and solutions (3).

Final Thoughts...

José Andrés and the team at World Central Kitchen do incredible, inspiring work every day by providing hot meals and a big dose of hope to people in need around the world. Considering the contagious nature of altruism, the moral elevation effect, it shouldn't be surprising how successful they have come as world leaders in relief. Their social media presence combines Andrés' star power with strategies of recruitment, fundraising, and calling on world leaders to join the cause. Andrés breaks barriers and does not wait for the slow-moving bureaucratic red tape to help others; he disrupts the system by ignoring it, with instant action. From their continuing efforts in a war zone to their work to slow down climate change, thus hopefully preventing from natural disasters from occurring in the first place, there's no telling how much they will do for humanity. So, what's the future like for José Andrés and World Central Kitchen? One thing is for sure...

The Doobie Brothers have added 11 more dates to their upcoming 50th anniversary tour.

The 50th anniversary tour launched last summer, even though it was originally scheduled to take place in 2020, but was delayed due to the pandemic. The 50th Anniversary Tour features Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons and John McFee performing together for the first time in more than 25 years. Johnston says in a statement, "We are excited to play more shows in 2022 and will be coming back around to Nashville to wrap things up which is fitting as that's where we first announced our 50th Anniversary Tour back in 2019."

Heart singer Ann Wilson has revealed that she wants to make another album with the band and has denied rumors of a dispute with her sister Nancy. Since Ann's husband was arrested during a Heart tour in 2016, the sisters have been pursuing solo careers. However, in a new interview with Rock Candy magazine, Ann said she wants to make another Heart album and there is no feud between her and Nancy. "It depends on the songs," she said. "The songs lead everything. And I'm writing songs again now. I don't know if they'll be for my solo thing or for Heart. But yes, I would like to make another Heart album." "Things happen in families," Ann explains. "And that was a really good example of something that happened within a family, and we worked it out. But the part that made it hard was that it happened in the public eye. If it had happened privately, we'd have got the family in a room and sat down and worked it out between us." Metallica have announced that they will donate $500,000 to World Central Kitchen to help feed Ukrainian refugees who fled the war. The donation is in addition to the rockers' recent $100,000 grant - with the goal of bringing that number to a total of $1 million over the next two months. The aid is being released through Metallica's charity foundation All Within My Hands, which has organized a number of fundraising events to raise money for Ukrainians. Through May 31, the Metallica.com store will feature exclusive merchandise for sale, and donate all proceeds to WCK. Andrew Cremeans has created a one-of-a-kind shirt piece for this campaign, and those who are interested can pre-order the shirt now. "We'll also have auctions and raffles, including the guitars James and Kirk will be playing the National Anthem on at Metallica Night with the San Francisco Giants on May 24," Metallica said in a statement. Those who would like to contribute can visit the AWMH donation page and choose the World Central Kitchen Ukraine Relief Fund.
