Some random headcanons from my stex fic Bracelets
Idk if anyone cares but you're getting them anyway
-Other than the two that ended up in the coach's shed coach, Greaseball hasn't lost any of the bracelets Tass has made for her, Dinah just nabs them when she can.
-Dinah has a habit in general of stealing Greaseball-related doodads and hoarding them like a ferret.
-Greaseball was wearing one of Tass's bracelets during the first race she won as a junior racer, which why she counts them as lucky charms.
-Tassita refuses to make Dinah and Greaseball a couples bracelet on the grounds that the color combo would be atrocious (and also Dinah is too good for her). He wouldn't make one for Rusty and Pearl either, but just on the bad color scheme grounds.
-In general, Tass uses a candy stripe pattern for engines, and chevron for coaches. He made kumiho/rope bracelets for the Apollo Vic freights (and Flat-Top's favorite brick) but has used a different pattern for each of the fuel trucks at Troubadour. Greaseball also gets a different pattern every time he makes her one.
-Tass has made two bracelets for Momma - one based on her livery and one representing Rusty and the Fuel trucks (which is why he had Hydra's color on hand in the first place)
-He hasn't made any for Electra or the components yet.
-The Apollo vic trains would rotate who would babysit Tassita and Greaseball based on who was working. Dustin was Tassita's favorite sitter and CB was Greaseball's (he taught them how to play poker and gamble).
-Hydra knows the orange in his bracelet is for Rusty but would tease Tassita about not using the right shade (Tass's paler orange) given the chance.
Also here's the link in case you read the hcs first for some reason:

currently rotating rose red around in my brain so here's some outfits i designed for her (this is pre-meeting cinders btw)! bonus design notes under the cut :3
nude
i knew immediately that i wanted rose to be short and built like a brick shithouse. she is dense and compact and impossible to knock over. also, she gets to be a bear girl because everyone in my ouatis au is an animal eared person. its a fun concept i saw trawling the tumblr tag and i have decided it is very canon.
absolutely covered in freckles
yes those are top surgery scars. very recent in fact! its a cross between unrealized gender things and the pain of breasts that are just. too big. always.
her tail is usually too small to be seen from this angle but i wanted to show off her tiny red puff
most of her scars are from military combat with the exception of the top surgery scars and the one on her left hand which came from when she punched a window at the age of 15 defending snow from one of their dads getting super duper upset b/c snow was starting to date
she is 4'10" and so proud of it. will kick your ass if you're a dick about it
pajamas
nothing much to say here, she just. doesn't care all that much. tank top and sweat pants are the perfect combo of temperatures for her.
also she wears heart patterned boxers and we love her for that
military work uniform
do you know how hard it is to design a military uniform when you don't usually give a shit about the military. i spend so many hours going down worldbuilding subreddits and forums before i figured out something i was happy with. anyways! this is a non-combative officer's work uniform (aka the uniform rose wore when she was commander of the prison cinders was in). i picked red because it's the color most strongly associated with cole's army, but i figure that soldiers in combat would have better camouflage built into their uniforms.
the patch on her left shoulder (the one with the deer) is the symbol for colonel. it's also mirrored on a smaller scale on her breast. cole's army uses animals to mark higher ranks
the other shoulder patch marks her current assignment
i liked white as an accent color because of its prevalence in the album. also it looks nice!
the sleeve stripes and the chevrons both indicate that she is a very important officer
the other patches on her breast are the simplified coat of arms for her noble house (the house of grimm) and all of the medals she has earned in her 11 years of service
military dress uniform
the fancy version of her uniform for Events and Public Appearances. it's a bit darker in tone for the sake of visual interest and has a lot more accessories. this one was a nightmare to color i stg but i'm super happy with the way it turned out.
you get to see all her medals! she has complicated feelings on them but they are shiny and look very nice so.
the stripes, chevrons, and deer are all the same as the work uniform for some easy visual shorthand of her rank
the only time rose will ever wear a tie or any other neck decoration because it's regulation.
i liked the way a black undershirt looked over a white one, no other reason lol
the bear medal is because the bear is a symbol of her noble family. most people have a cougar of some sort instead.
the sword and the lion are both special awards granted specifically by cole. the lion in particular came from her first deployment where she accidentally changed the tides on the invasion of the perrault (cinders' planet) and became a war hero/propaganda piece at 19
the boots have buckles. they are never quite tight enough and its annoying.
casual dress
off duty, rose wears crisp, well tailored masc outfits. she knows how to dress herself to look effortlessly important due to being raised noble but she doesn't think too hard about it.
she wears shorts instead of full pants whenever she can get away with it. snow hates this.
no she is not buttoning up all the way. why would you make her put this much effort into it. she's hotter with it undone
fun fact: i initially made her vest and shorts green but i decided that blue looked nicer
fancy dress
i've elected to go with a 1700s inspired look for the nobility. it's very fairytale-esque and also allows me to have fun with it! i wanted to do more embroidery, but i wound up not having the patience for such a thing. ah well, what i've got looks nice enough.
rose usually wears cool colors in her formal outfits. this purple is a particular favorite of hers because it goes really nicely with her hair and ears without being obnoxious
once again, rose out here avoiding any sort of neck accessory or hat. accessories that annoy her for $10,000
the lilac undershirt is not connected to the off-white trousers it's two separate pieces.
the gold accents cut a very striking figure and also look very pretty <3
the boots are supposed to be longer and pointier but idk how well i pulled that off aha
she's very handsome and i love her

It Is the East and He Is the Sun-- Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Pairing: Alex Claremont-Diaz/Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor
Summary:
“I bet you $100 that he’s the reason Pez is late. That stupid, entitled motherfucker with his perfect fucking hair,” Alex lamented, rolling his eyes and slouching indignantly in his seat. It was stupid how soft his hair looked and even worse how much Alex wanted to feel it for himself.
“I really don’t think that Henry has control of the traffic patterns, Alex. You’re being ridiculous,” Nora chastised as Pez started to scoot down their row toward the seat next to her.
“Maybe not but the Mountchristen Corporation sure seems to think they are God and he is not exempt from that. Eat the rich.”
--
Or: The queer community theater AU that you never knew you needed. Alex is Romeo, Henry is Julien, and theater magic might just make these enemies fall in love.

Next Chapter
Nestled in a sleepy community between San Jose and San Francisco stood a small theater surrounded by a canopy of oak trees blowing in the mild January breeze. Made of red bricks, white arches, and a black, domed roof, The Grand Jupiter Theater oozed vintage charm and elegance. Atop its center peak stood a flag pole and waving proudly at full staff, the progress flag, its rainbow stripes and chevrons a hallmark of its history.
In the early 1900’s, a young man with bright eyes and a story to tell sat upon the steps of a recently-abandoned theater with an open checkbook and a dream. New to town, Ernesto Palencia had been rumored to be the kind of eccentric man that one should stay away from. With the tone of his voice, the cadence of his words, and the flamboyance of his outfits, he was entirely unfamiliar and created a stir of whispers everywhere he went. He, however, didn’t care what the town thought, or what the rumor mill had spun about him and his intentions when he used the fortune he inherited as the sole heir to a sizable trust to buy a near-forgotten building. He had fled the Midwest in search of something greater, of a lightness, a freedom that he knew he was unlikely to find. But, as he signed his name on the deed of the newly-named Grand Jupiter, he began to make a brilliance of his own, a beacon in his community that soon enough became integral to its very bones.
The history of the Grand Jupiter Theater was what initially drew Alex Claremont-Diaz, the half-Mexican, bisexual son of a US senator and the governor of Texas, to its front door. He had been a new student at Stanford Law, fresh to Silicon Valley after four years at UT Austin, and looking for a community of his own. After making lists of the local intramural lacrosse clubs, volunteer organizations, and community centers, his focus had fixated on one: a local theater known for its history as an epicenter of grassroots queer activism and a haven for the LGBTQ+ folks in the area. In an insomnia-induced, late-night deep dive, Alex read that from the day the theater opened its doors, it became the home of groundbreaking performances, fundraisers, political rallies, and most intriguingly, the local queer organization that put on plays and musicals a few times a year, often with a gender-bent spin. The theater served to provide a safe, third place for those to find community when they didn’t always feel like they belonged anywhere else. Alex couldn’t think of anything better.
“Are you ready for auditions today?” a voice asked over Alex’s shoulder as he perused the menu at the coffee shop nearest The Jup, aptly named the Kitty Cat-fe. A faint meow was heard then and a rotund, tuxedo cat bumped its head against Alex’s ankle. He reached down and scratched its head before standing up and coming eye to eye with Nora Holleran, his best friend who also happened to be his ex-girlfriend and was now married to his sister, June. It was a weird little family but it was his little family.
“As ready as I'll ever be,” Alex said, still perusing the large, beige sign decorated with paw prints. “I’m feelin’ pretty good about getting the lead this time. Over/under on Romeo?”
Over the course of his three years in law school, Alex had slowly broken his way into the community theater scene. Starting as a stagehand, he was slowly convinced by the kids and Nora alike to actually audition for a part in the cast. Now, Alex was dedicated to securing a lead role before his graduation in May, and with the next production slated to be a gender-bent Romeo and Juliet, he thought he had a good chance. If his high school English teachers were right about anything, Alex’s impulsive nature and robust idealism seemed to position him well for taking on the character of Romeo. That, or they all just really wanted him to stop talking so much.
“65% chance you secure the bag and land Romeo, 80% chance you do something ridiculous in the audition, 100% chance Rafael Luna begs you to stop.”
Alex punched Nora’s shoulder as she snorted a laugh. “You’re an ass.”
As the two friends bantered lightheartedly, a pretty girl with light hair in shades of copper tied into a loose bun at the base of her head bounded behind the counter, tying an apron around her waist. She wore pearl and gold earrings but also a choker necklace– the dichotomy of her style somehow regal and rocker at the same time.
“Alex, Nora, it’s great to see you again!” she said with a wide smile and rounded vowels reminiscent of British royalty.
“Bea, lovely, lovely Bea. Will you please tell Alejandro that I’m right?” Nora asked, struggling to pout instead of cracking a smile.
“She’s right, Alex, sorry to say. Though, I’m afraid I don’t know what about.”
Alex scoffed, furrowing his eyebrows and throwing his hands in the air. “C’mon, Bea! You don’t even know what she said. Why can’t you be on my side for once?”
“It’s girl code, Alejandro. And, besides, Bea knows you’re dumb as rocks 70% of the time,” Nora said before giving Bea her order. A small smile crept onto Bea’s face as she wrote Nora’s name on an iced coffee cup.
“I mispronounce the word aesthetic one time and you two will never let me live it down.”
The Kitty Cat-fe, and by proxy Bea, had become a staple in Alex and Nora’s routine. Every day that they found themselves at The Jup, they would stop at the coffee shop first for some caffeine and good energy. There was nothing that a chat with Bea and a snuggle with one of the week’s shelter cats in residence couldn’t fix.
“Mr. Wobbles!” the barista exclaimed after setting Alex’s drink on the counter. “How in the world did you escape again? You bloody menace.”
Bea came around the counter and picked up the cat that was still aggressively nudging Alex’s ankles for attention. She chastised him softly and gently placed him back into the cat lounge with the other 9 cats.
“Word on the street is that you have a gig this week,” Nora said, sipping on her drink.
“Yes! My band and I are playing at a bar a couple towns over Tuesday evening,” Bea replied while she washed her hands behind the counter.
“Wait, Nora, we should go!” Alex said. “ June gets off early on Tuesdays, it’s the last day before rehearsals start, I have a later first class on Wednesday, it would be perfect.”
“No, you don’t have to do that, its really not a big deal,” Bea said, wringing her hands in front of her.
“It absolutely is a big deal,” Nora said, frowning at her. “You’re our friend, Bea. You came to June’s and my housewarming.”
“And you came to like three of my games last year,” Alex added. He had participated in club  lacrosse last winter while also juggling a small part in the Jup’s production of Death of a Salesman. Combined with his 2L course load, Alex lived on coffee, instant ramen, and fumes. “You’re our friend and we are coming.”
A light pink blush bloomed on Bea’s cheeks as she smiled at Nora and Alex. The three friends stood around and chatted for a few minutes more before Alex and Nora had to be on their way, auditions starting within the half hour. As they say in theater, early is on time, on time is late, late is dead.
------
“Alright, folks, looks like we have a great turnout for today’s auditions,” Rafael Luna said from the center of the stage, holding a clipboard standing under the beam of a stage light. “We are going to start just with a little introduction to the theater and the production…”
Every show for as long as Alex had been part of the Jup had been directed by Rafael, the flamed-out Broadway actor turned lawyer with a soft spot for one certain Claremont-Diaz. Over this past summer, Alex had wiggled his way into being the summer associate for Raf’s firm, the two sharing more than a few late nights with greasy Five Guys burgers, Wild Berry Skittles, and 7/11 slushies. They got on so well, in fact, that Rafael had offered Alex a job for when he graduated in May.
“Where’s Pez?” Alex asked under his breath as he looked around the theater, seeing dozens of familiar faces but missing the one he expected the most.  Percy Okonjo– Pez– was secretly Alex’s favorite, a multi-millionaire philanthropist with a degree in musical theater and a wicked sense of humor.
“I don’t know, he said he was coming. Maybe he’s running late?” Nora replied, but as soon as she finished, the house doors opened, and in walked the man in question with bright blue hair and a nonchalant smile.
“Mr. Okonjo, so glad you could join us today. Call time was 2 o’clock,” Rafael said from the stage, a frustrated but kind look on his face.
“Apologies, apologies. Traffic was a nightmare.”
Behind Pez trailed a tall blond with a pink blush rising on his cheeks, and a sheepish smile, embarrassment radiating from him. For all the glitz and glamor that was Pez’s Gucci tracksuit, Henry was equally understated in a soft cream Burberry sweater and dark trousers. Luna decided to leave the two alone after his brief razzing but Alex was not so forgiving.
There were three things everyone at the Grand Jupiter knew about Alex: he was allergic to dust, never shut the fuck up, and had an unbridled rage within him that was solely directed at Henry Fox-Mountchristen. As to why, no one seemed to be able to ascertain. Henry was a quiet guy who mostly kept to himself, volunteering backstage during production week and spending extra time with kids in the off-season at the local branch of the Okonjo Foundation’s LGBTQ+ youth center. But, to Alex, he seemed to be woven of the most despicable threads– beautiful, despicable threads.
The auditions went off without a hitch, starting with some group work for those who didn’t want speaking roles and then they went down the list of those who were left. Kids as young as 12 and adults as old as their 70s took their turn on the stage, reading their lines and receiving whoops of applause from the others in the audience. Though unconventional, it was the way auditions had always gone at The Jup from its very inception as a community theater. Everyone sat together and cheered each other on; they found camaraderie through a shared joy, a collective effervescence. There was a welcoming warmth that permeated the space, the feeling one that Alex had never felt anywhere else.
As the evening wound to a close, there were only two auditions left– Alex and Henry. Rafael must have been playing some kind of sick joke on Alex, making him wait all night just to be pitted against his nemesis. The younger and older members of the troop had filtered out slowly, leaving only those who were young enough to stay out late into the night and old enough to make that decision for themselves. When his name was called, Alex stood swiftly, straightened his outfit, and bounded onto the stage as if he was born to be there. He gave his monologue without the script, incorporating his own blocking, giving it his all. As the words came to a close, Alex felt good about his performance, and for the first time in the three years he had become a latent theater kid, he felt like he actually had a chance being at the top of the call list.
Plopping back in his chair, Nora kissed the side of his head, wrapped her arm around his shoulders, and shook him lightly.
“I’m so proud of you Alejandro, that was incredible!”
But before they could celebrate any further, Luna called the final audition to the stage: Henry Fox-Mountchristen. Alex watched as Henry stood, fidgeting with the gold ring on his pinky finger. He seemed more nervous than Alex expected of the front-facing persona of the Mountchristen Corporation’s technology division.
“Wait, before you head up there,” Zahra Bankston, the stage manager, said. “Take this monologue with you. We want you to read for Juliet.”
Alex watched with wide eyes as Henry’s jaw dropped and then quickly schooled itself back into that infuriatingly unbothered smile, reaching out to take the piece of paper from Zahra. Henry had never acted in a production before, why did Luna want him to read for the lead?
Tumblr media
Henry Fox-Mountchristen was many things but an actor was not one of them. So, how he found himself standing on stage at The Grand Jupiter Theater, reading the lines for a community theater production of Romeo and Juliet on a dreary Sunday afternoon in mid-January, he wasn’t entirely sure. And how, for his first-ever audition, the director had decided to have him read for a part he had no business playing, he was even more uncertain. But, there he stood, sheet of paper in hand, taking a deep breath through his nose to steady himself. You’ve got to let yourself have something, Henry. Just try it, for me. Frankie’s words rang in his ears, the devious yet pleading look on his gaunt face. With another deep breath to steady himself, he reached for emotion, and from the script, he began to read:
“Farewell!--God knows when we shall meet again. I have a faint cold fear thrills through my veins That almost freezes up the heat of life: I'll call them back again to comfort me;-- Nurse!--What should she do here? My dismal scene I needs must act alone.-- Come, vial.--”
------
“So, Henry, do you think you’re going to audition this year?” Frankie Wright, the 80-year-old owner of The Grand Jupiter asked from his position on the bed. A thin blanket was curled around him and he was propped into a sitting position by the raised head of his bed. A nasal cannula rhythmically pumped oxygen into his lungs, the sound both soothing to Henry’s ears and a stark reminder of why he was here.
“I highly doubt that the people of the Bay Area deserve to be plagued by my butchering of a Shakespearean classic,” Henry responded. With nimble fingers, he loosened his tie, suit jacket already shucked off and laying against the back of his chair.
After a long day of meetings, business calls, and endless emails at the Silicon Valley headquarters of the Mountchristen Corporation, the youngest grandson of Mary Mountchristen wanted nothing more than to be freed of that which confined him. Even with that being said, he still sat ramrod straight in the bedside chair, jaw clenched and shoulders creeping their way up to his ears. There was an uneasiness to him that almost felt innate, like an integral part of who he was.
“You’re too tense, Henry. You’ve got to loosen up. Live a little,” Frankie said, poking a frail finger in the air at the young man.
Henry took a deep breath, schooling his features into the pinched-mouth smile he so often wore, rolling his shoulders back in an attempt to relax.
“How are you feeling today?” Henry asked, diverting the conversation. Frankie eyed him up and down, no doubt seeing through him but letting it happen anyway.
“Not better but not worse,” the older man replied honestly. Henry wasn’t sure how many people got to see him like this. “I saw your friend Percy today.”
“Oh, did you, now? And what brought him all this way?”
“Well, I wanted to ask him about the foundation buying the Jup. It’s become quite clear that this isn’t something I’m going to be able to talk myself out of.”
Henry’s face contorted, his chest clenching in a way all too familiar. Since Frankie’s diagnosis of panreatic cancer two months prior, Henry had been dreading the inevitable, cursing a God he wasn’t sure he believed in anymore for doing this to him twice.
When Henry moved to the area three years ago, Frankie had incidentally been one of the first people he met. He had found himself sitting alone at a small cafe across the street from a picturesque theater. Kittens were running around and climbing on counters, providing endless entertainment for the lonely British transplant. With a bamboo stick, he swirled the milk in his Earl Grey tea until it took the small piece of wood from his fingers and spun it around the cup like a whirlpool. He missed home, he missed his sister, and he missed being able to pretend that, in any capacity, he didn’t have to be the golden child of the Mountchristen Dynasty. But, after just a few minutes, an elderly man with a kind face, wearing the most god-awful sweater Henry had ever seen, sat right down on the other side of the table and introduced himself. There the two sat for hours, chatting about everything and nothing, and for the first time since he was 17, Henry had felt some semblance of paternal love. For the first time since he left London, he hadn’t felt alone.
Henry wasn’t ready to lose Frankie, too.
“How did that go? Is Pez going to sign off?”
“Yes, we are going to close on the deal next month. I’ve got it planned with my estate attorney to sign the title over to the Okonjo Foundation and have my remaining assets put into a trust to be donated to the youth shelter.”
Henry nodded solemnly. He chewed on his inner lip and caught eyes with Frankie.
“What about you, kid? How are you doing?”
“Fine, I’ve almost gotten this deal secured with Apple to–”
Frankie cut Henry off. “No, Henry. How are you doing? Have you talked to your grandmother?”
Henry sighed and fussed with the golden signet ring on his pinky finger. “No, I haven’t. I’m too afraid of what might happen if I do.”
For the last 6 months, Henry had been talking back and forth with Frankie about leaving his position at the Mountchristen Corporation. Being there, being a public-facing member of the dynasty, it had made Henry shove himself into a tiny box, to wipe any evidence of his individuality from his demeanor, forcing him to hide everything that made him, him. For the entire three-year friendship Henry had forged with Frankie, the older man had been slowly chipping away at him, trying to convince him to strike out on his own, to do what made his heart happy. Henry, however, wasn’t sold on the idea. Even after 6 months of active deliberation, he was still terrified of what would happen if he did.
“Well, what if you try something small, instead?”
Henry’s head snapped up from where it had been focused on the floor.
“Like what? Joining the community theatre?” Henry laughed a little as he spoke, long privy to the older man’s tricks.
“Exactly, my boy. Life is too short not to have fun.”
Henry groaned into a small smile. “I don’t have the time, Frankie. Between volunteering at the shelter and all the overtime I’m working, I just don’t think I could make it work.”
“You’ve got to let yourself have something, Henry. Just try it for me. Being on that stage, it’s exhilarating.”
With a deep breath, Henry felt his shoulders fully relax and he sank into the chair behind him, knowing this wouldn’t be a battle he’d win.
“If I do this, won’t it be for you and not me?”
“Any benefit I might gain from you letting yourself stop moping about not having a life and wishing you could just be brave like that Claremont-Diaz kid will be secondary to the joy you will feel when you finally spread your wings, little butterfly.”
A warm blush rose on Henry’s cheeks. “That man is nothing but a nuisance.”
“That man is the single most talked about person besides your dear sister Bea on Bourbon and Bake Off night and you know it.”
“If I agree to go audition tomorrow, can we stop talking about this?”
“Absolutely.”
------
“O, if I wake, shall I not be distraught, Environed with all these hideous fears? And madly play with my forefathers' joints? And pluck the mangled Tybalt from his shroud? And, in this rage, with some great kinsman's bone, As with a club, dash out my desperate brains?-- O, look! methinks I see my cousin's ghost Seeking out Romeo, that did spit his body Upon a rapier's point:--stay, Tybalt, stay!-- Romeo, I come! this do I drink to thee.”
As Henry looked out into the audience at the end of his monologue, he felt a rush flowing through him. Frankie had been right, acting was exhilarating. He looked for the director’s face, scanning the seats until he found Rafael Luna and Zahra Bankston staring back at him, who seemed equally shocked and pleased at Henry’s performance.
“Yeah, Hazza! That’s my boy!” Pez called out around the applause ringing from the remaining people in the audience. A distinct whoop came from the other side and Henry felt something warm and pleasant bloom in his chest. They liked him.
“Wow, Mr. Mountchristen, color me impressed,” Rafael said as Henry climbed down the stage steps and back into the house. “I didn’t know that you had it in you.”
“Me neither,” Henry replied, quiet enough that only he could hear it.
Rafael wrote some notes down on his pad and then pointed to them, showing them to Zahra, his stage manager. She nodded and scribbled something down on a piece of paper and handed it to Henry as he passed by.
Callbacks, Monday at 7:30 pm, Grand Jupiter. Role: Juliet.
Henry looked around, seeing Pez and Nora both with beaming smiles in his direction. He fiddled with the corner of the small, yellow paper in his hands and saw Alex doing the same, brow furrowed as he watched Henry return to his seat.
This was going to be interesting.

[Chapter 29] Seeing the World Through Ballistic-Tinted Glasses
Content Warning: Descriptions of violence and death.
A splitting headache drug you from the groggy sleeping world, opening dry eyes to meet the faded chevron pattern of the van you’d spent days in. Fingertips rose to run along those smooth metal rivets along the steel fuselage. Blinding daylight streaming in made your eyes sting, raising the back of your hand to shield your eyes. Wait, daylight? You blinked. The light was brighter than ever, making impossibly dry eyes squint to prevent the searing shine from before you.
Alertness finally clicked, and your raised hand slammed to the ground to rush yourself into an upright position. The van warped, now manifested into a dusty soccer field, pushing heavy rocks off your legs in a panicked response to gather your surroundings. Creeping, agonizing realization relentlessly crushed into your mind, and your vision locked on those blue eyes.
“Mariya!” you blurted, scrambling to shove a stack of loose bricks off her, urgently brushing loose dust off her to identify any blooming red spots.
Raw fear in a carnal gaze met you before your head whirled over your shoulder to spy, to your horror, a foreign masked soldier rising from a chasm in the wall. A detonation charge cracked open a meter-wide hole in a cavity below the stadium- some kind of underground tunnel. By the looks on the faces of your peers who scrambled upright beside you, the Elders weren’t aware of its existence either. Another shadow emerging behind the first, now recognizably armed with a rifle, you spurred into action.
This is one of those crossroads moments training tells you about. Sometimes, you’d have to make one of these split-second decisions that will determine your fate forever. You could surrender to the soldiers, raise your palms in submission and be exposed to interrogation, torture, or worse. There was another option, and that was to lunge at the armed figures in the hopes of buying precious seconds for your peers- it also increased the odds that you wouldn’t be taken for interrogation.
An ear-splitting blast made your decision for you. The combination of choking dust in your nose, a deafening blast in your right ear, aching muscles and devastating visuals made you slam your eyes shut in the overstimulation of it all. It gave you precious milliseconds to gather yourself. Gather what protocol drilled into you at some point would be most applicable here. You’re still thinking, so that’s an indication that your head hasn’t been blown off your shoulders just yet. Eyes opened. Another blast made you flinch, but by the looks of the armed soldier in all black at the foot of the chasm’s entrance, you’ve earned a few more seconds to kickstart yourself into motion. The intruders bore no insignia or flags on their shoulders, just tactical gear layered over hoodies and windbreakers. The radio screamed into your ear, swinging your eyes around to identify your allies.
“Cricket, take them to the locker rooms- cross the field and take the hall to your right. Now, now, now!” Price’s voice tore through your bones, spurring muscles into movement before your eyes could catch up.
Another blast. There are 20, maybe 25 people whose eyes are wracked with shock. In this state of shock, they’re especially vulnerable to being picked off by these raiders. Now, they were your sole responsibility, thanks to a direct order from your Captain. You had to swallow your initial attempt to speak in English, reconnecting with the initial plan and setting with a foggy mind.
“Follow me right now!” The first attempt to speak came out like a crackle thanks to clogging dust, but the second attempt tore over the faces of your direct audience, bringing wild eyes to meet yours. “Let’s go, Let’s go!”
Just like with Samantha climbing onto the helicopter, you can’t give people the time to evaluate their setting or bodily harm. You just have to whip them into motion, nipping at their heels and herding them to the intended destination. Your gaze locked onto a pair of broad doors just along the half line on the field, on the other side of the turf. It’s a mad dash across horrifyingly open territory, but the blasts over your shoulder suggested you had solid overwatch. Waving your arms and shouting the direction seemed to gather most people into a mad dash, giving you precious seconds to gather the ones who have yet to find their feet.
At least one has fallen. A boulder of debris had hit one of the men clean in the side of the head as you refused to let your eyes linger on the spilling pool of blood under its weight. Eyes fell on Salt and Pepper, clutching a blooming wound on his lower abdomen, absorbing the brunt of a bullet fired from one of the emerging from the explosion site. Yet again, drilled instinct brought you to hook his shoulder behind your neck before you could blink. He was screaming in your ear, only momentarily deafened by another series of blasts. You could only pray that none of them had hit you, as pumping sheer adrenaline made your body numb.
“I can’t-” Salt and Pepper groaned, clutching a gushing wound that trailed down his thigh.
“You will.” You urged, raising eyes to meet the rest of the crowd as they had barely run halfway across the distance they needed to cross.
He was too heavy, and every hobbling hop threatened to drag you down to meet the turf under his tremendous swaying force. Another blast. This time, an explosion of movement in your body made your heart stop. Looking down with despair, you saw no crimson, no bone. Salt and Pepper’s body going limp gave you the information you were searching for. There wasn't time to mourn or hold him in his fleeting final moments. Freed from his grip, your vision swung around to see the bullet that had lodged into the back of his neck and the gunman who was in pursuit. His body fell limp with a pink mist just before the blast from your peripheral caught up with your ears. Flickering up to the stands in the distance, you caught that white flash of a honing scope. Thank fuck for Ghost.
Now, it was time to break into a cold sprint to reach those doors before you meet Salt and Pepper's fate. Freed from excess weight and hopped up on a lethal amount of adrenaline and hiking knees, you caught up with the remaining herd of cattle within seconds. Whooping and hollering, you urged the pack to slam past the doors - thank God they were unlocked - and take a scrambling turn to the hallway on the right. The change in floor texture from turf to tile made you fumble under a lack of traction. You could identify some of those pale faces beginning to fall on you from the corner of your eyes. A winding circuit of concrete and steel wound around in a route that guaranteed at least one certain circular path around the inner field. Your mind worked fast, shapes and colours falling into place as recognizable objects. The orange steel doors you identified as the locker rooms would be your best shot at a hiding spot for the time being.
Waving the flock through the locker room door, you didn’t have time to do a role call before you did one last flicker down both sides of the hallway and slammed the door shut. Stepping back, you blinked in shock as a pair of hulking men charged towards you armed with chairs and benches. Pushing past you, they stacked the wooden items under the door, firemen passing more to cover the frail lock. The burn of your heaving chest caught up with your senses as a pack of 20 odd eyes fell on you as you doubled over to catch your breath. Thrumming vision fell on scratchy tile floors, grey and worn from years of regular wear. No injuries, save for a crushing pain on the side of your right thigh and the lingering sting from your cheekbones.
A fist fell on your throat, committing to squeeze the life from your throat as your eyes felt like they could pop out of your head. Heaving to catch your breath, you immediately halted as you met that square haircut of Mariya’s husband. He had a smatter of blood along his ear but was mostly covered in a thin layer of beige dust.
“Was this you? ” he roared, raw berserk eyes promising to wring your neck for everything left in your screaming lungs.
You didn’t exactly have the range of motion to shake your head no, and any attempts to speak came up emptyhanded as you could only mouth your response. The crushing weight didn’t relent, though your breath did. Black specs in your vision sweetly reminded you how peaceful a nap would be right now. A flash of plum purple on his shoulder forced life back into your lungs with gasping gulps. Sputtering coughs erupted from your throat, crumbling to your knees to coax your throat back into an open state.
“It was the Cartel, Sergei! I know those uniforms- or lack thereof. They’ve been swarming the streets while you bastards have been hiding in this stadium,” Mariya scorned, slamming her palm into his shoulder.
Their continued dialogue gave you enough time to grapple with the context of the room, and the shouting in your ear. Hooks and lockers that once held the uniforms of giggling children and practiced athletes now house a swarm of frazzled and volatile men, throwing their hands up in frustration as they continued their observations. Gaz’s voice cut into your ear, concurring with an order you never heard. Ghost said something about sweeping the ground floor and reconvening with Price on the West end. From behind the door, crackling gunfire reverberated off concrete walls, reaching your ears with a steady echo. Your mind lurched to hook onto something that was said in the conversation that unravelled before you. You swore you heard something like ‘We still have the transmission’ and ‘Where’s the USB?’.
“What - What transmission?” A raw voice came from your throat.
“That’s none of your goddamn business.” The guy in the checkered shirt chastised you from behind the crowd.
“I am not your fucking enemy,” you blurted, spitting back crackling nerves that still surged with adrenaline. “It’s like Mariya said, we’re being ambushed by the Russian Cartel. They were shooting at all of us.”
You bit back the urge to clarify that it was your sniper that saved them from being pumped full of lead, but raising suspicion wouldn’t aid your situation. Instead, you just worked with the assumed belief of luck, assuming cartel raiders’ heads just happen to have a habit of exploding into a fine pink mist. Raising to your feet, you refused to let damaged pride and cheekbones hold you back from pressing the issue.
“I’m a linguist by trade. If you let me see this transmission, I might be able to get some vital information.”
“There are no tapes, or-... transmissions.” Mariya’s husband stated blankly with furrowed brows. A Freudian slip accidentally revealed additional information, courtesy of his cracking voice.
Bull.
More pops of gunshots peppered the silence, hearing thumping footsteps catch onto your senses as they trudged closer to your position. It sounded like a group of footsteps, maybe five, but it’s impossible to say. Nerves spiked as a caught gaze from one of your peers concurred with your creeping dread.
“First floor clear, descending to ground level. 0-7 and 7-1 are now on the way to Cricket’s position.” Ghost’s voice spoke into your ear, catching a swift copy from Price.
“We have to exfil Cricket before the Barricade troops and the military find her position.” Gaz’s voice added, hearing more distant pops before he closed his microphone.
“This is Eagle Actual, we’re 0-2 minutes from your position 141. Once we touch turf, we gotta’ hightail it out of here before the Ukrainian military has this place surrounded.” Grave’s voice retorted, hearing chopping helicopter blades in the background of his transmission.
Okay. Let’s think. The Elders will be significantly more compliant with their home government now that they know they've been watching over the their wives and kids in their absense. Now, the Cartel doesn't have hostages over them too. The Elders still won’t trust the military with key information though, which could cost them the upper hand in stopping a hostile takeover from the Cartel. They'll never surrender the people's control over Verdansk. You can’t just let this opportunity slip through the cracks. You’ve come too far just to fumble at the last hurdle. Solidifying your resolve and relaxing your shoulders, you prepared to pressure these men while they’re still considering their allegiances.
“Is this what you want? Verdansk to be pillaged and torn apart by three grabbing hands? If we work together, we can stop this conflict from escalating, and you all know damn we’re aiming towards civil war.” You shouted confidently, even catching you off guard, speaking over popping gunshells echoing louder and louder.
More silence, dozens of skeptical eyes staring through you, only now, some of them were tainted with desperation and compassion. Most of these men were fathers, and by the looks of their clothing and un-calloused hands, they probably weren’t even soldiers either. They were tired. Utterly exhausted from months of holding their ground in this stadium, months spent away from their loved ones, months spent thinking their wives and kids are in the hands of people who want them to suffer.
“If you won’t accept militaristic help, that’s fine. But let us help you with what we can, and we’ll expect nothing in return. No statues or reimbursements. We’re only doing this because we have a common goal, and frankly, we don’t trust you either.” Your voice cut loud and deep through the room of eyes that momentarily flickered with the offence, then contemplation, then unreadable blank expressions as you continued. “We all can’t afford to see this violent cartel take hold of a vital military base.”
“We have an open transmission that was snuck in from a turncoat.” Another man, a man you hadn’t recognized before, spoke up.
Deep wrinkles creased around his cheeks and pale eyes, and the way the others parted around him when he spoke suggested his words held some significant social value. He had kind eyes and bloody fists, an oxymoron that unsettled you to your core and somehow simultaneously inspired you to trust his words. Something in the stoic look on his face when he's speaking so gravely reminded you of Chucky.
“We know it’s saying something important, but we have no clue what they’re saying. It’s a language we don’t understand…” he continued, stepping forward and approaching you as you tilted your chin to meet him.
“I’ll have a look. I will crack it,” you met his pale grey eyes with matching intensity, “and when I do, I'll share what we learn. You have my word.”
“Cricket we’re at your position, we gotta’ get out of here,” Ghost’s voice spoke into your ear, though you resisted letting it startle you in favour of retaining this man’s grave stare.
A pounding at the door made everyone’s heads snap to the sound, except for yours and the stranger’s. You two were locked in a deadlock like he was testing your metal to scrutinize your integrity. There was no way to communicate to Ghost that pounding on the door risked damaging your rapport of gathering crucial information, and a thin layer of sweat was under your slick jacket. More pounding. A searing gaze. The pressure in the room was electric.
“Take it and go,” he flicked a USB out of his pocket, eliciting furrowed brows and frowns from the crowd, “ ‘We’ is waiting.”
Words couldn’t express the relief that surged through your bones. A slight prick of horror as you realized he recognized your team’s intrusion from the start, but overall, it was sheer solace. It felt like an orgasm, a cigarette, and a breath of fresh air all at once. Screeching wood finally snipped the simmering tension between the two of you as you muttered a wordless thank you and slipped the red USB into your back pocket.

Bead Patterns That Will Inspire Your Next Masterpiece
Stuck in a creative rut? We’ve all been there. You sit down with your beads, ready to create something amazing… and suddenly your inspiration vanishes. The good news? Sometimes all it takes to spark your creativity is the right pattern.
Whether you’re into delicate bracelets, bold earrings, or stunning wall art, the world of beading offers endless patterns that can take your work from “pretty cool” to masterpiece level. Ready to reignite your imagination? Let’s dive into a collection of bead patterns that will inspire your next big creation—and maybe even push your skills to the next level.
Why Bead Patterns Matter More Than You Think
Before we jump into the patterns, let’s talk about why they matter so much. Bead patterns are more than just blueprints—they’re creative roadmaps that guide your imagination while still giving you space to make the design your own.
Here’s what great patterns can do:
Give structure to your creativity
Teach you new techniques
Save you time and frustration
Help you visualize your final piece
Keep you motivated when you hit a wall
Plus, there’s just something so satisfying about watching a pattern come together bead by bead.
1. Peyote Stitch Patterns: Perfect for Beginners to Pros
Peyote stitch is one of the most popular bead weaving techniques—and for good reason. It’s super versatile and works for both flat and tubular designs.
Ideas to explore:
Chevron peyote bracelets – Classic and clean
Word bands – Spell out inspiring messages
Patterned cuffs – Think florals, tribal motifs, or geometric designs
Why it’s inspiring:
You can start with simple stripes and build up to complex imagery. It’s like pixel art, but way shinier.
Pro tip: Try odd-count peyote if you’re ready for a slightly more advanced challenge.
Tumblr media
2. Brick Stitch Patterns: For Bold, Graphic Designs
Looking for something with strong lines and structure? Brick stitch is your new best friend. It’s ideal for earrings and pendants, especially those cute fringe-style pieces.
Popular patterns include:
Southwest-inspired earrings
Animal silhouettes (owls, cats, butterflies—you name it!)
Mini pixel charms like cacti, hearts, or emojis
Why you’ll love it:
You can play with color blocking and outlines to make your designs pop. Plus, it works beautifully with Delica or Toho seed beads for that perfect uniform finish.
3. Loom Beading Patterns: Create Stunning Statement Pieces
Loom work might sound intimidating, but it’s actually super satisfying—and seriously addictive. With a loom, you can create detailed beadwork that lays perfectly flat and symmetrical.
Great loom project ideas:
Wide cuff bracelets
Bookmark patterns
Wall hangings with tribal or boho flair
Beaded tapestries (yes, really!)
Why it’s worth trying:
It’s a great way to create large, intricate designs in a fraction of the time it would take to do by hand. Think of it like weaving, but with sparkle.
4. Right-Angle Weave (RAW) Patterns: For Dimensional Designs
Feeling ready to level up? Right-angle weave is a bit more advanced, but it opens the door to 3D beading, beaded bezels, and structural jewelry.
Patterns to inspire:
Beaded rings and necklace components
Crystal rivoli settings
Beaded balls and flower motifs
Why it’s amazing:
RAW gives your pieces dimension and flexibility, which is perfect for more sculptural designs. It’s like engineering meets art.
5. Netting Patterns: Elegant and Delicate
Want to create something that looks like it belongs in a museum or on a red carpet? Netting is the technique that gives off that vintage, lace-like vibe.
Try these ideas:
Beaded collars and chokers
Draping necklace bibs
Decorative cuffs with crystals or pearls
Why netting inspires:
It looks complicated but is surprisingly repetitive (in a good way). Plus, it’s one of those stitches that transforms even basic beads into show-stopping elegance.
6. Spiral Rope Patterns: Twisty and Fun
If you want texture and movement, give spiral rope a try. It’s fun, fast, and endlessly customizable.
Project ideas include:
Chunky spiral necklaces
Colorful bracelets
Layered rope chains
Why it’s worth exploring:
This technique lets you combine colors and bead sizes to create eye-catching twists and spirals. You can even work in seed beads, crystals, or pearls for extra flair.
7. Fringe Patterns: Boho Chic at Its Best
Fringe is always in style, and bead fringe patterns are perfect for everything from earrings to wall decor.
Try these fringe-friendly projects:
Waterfall earrings
Beaded tassels for bags or keys
Decorative fringe wall hangings
Why it’s fun:
Fringe adds movement and drama to your piece, and it’s so satisfying to see those long threads sway. Bonus? It’s easy to improvise and experiment with different lengths and colors.
8. Circular and Mandala Patterns: For Meditative Crafting
Need a little zen in your beadwork? Circular bead patterns—like mandalas or floral motifs—are a beautiful way to slow down and get lost in the rhythm of creation.
Inspiring ideas:
Beaded coasters
Statement brooches
Centerpieces for necklaces or wall art
Why they spark creativity:
You get to play with symmetry, color gradients, and layered textures. Think of it like beaded meditation—peaceful and pretty.
How to Customize Any Pattern and Make It Your Own
Here’s a secret: you don’t have to follow patterns exactly. The magic happens when you tweak them to reflect your personal style.
Ways to make a pattern yours:
Swap out colors for a custom palette
Add crystals, pearls, or metallics
Mix bead sizes for texture
Turn a pendant into earrings, or vice versa
Combine techniques (like peyote + fringe)
Bead patterns are just a launch pad—your creativity is the fuel.
Final Thoughts: Let the Beads Guide You
No matter your skill level, there’s a bead pattern out there that can inspire your next masterpiece. Whether you're aiming for something quick and cute or bold and breathtaking, the right design can get your creative wheels turning.
So go ahead—scroll through some patterns, pick one that makes your heart skip a beat, and start beading your next favorite piece. The beauty of bead crafting is that every project teaches you something new. And who knows? Today’s simple pattern might just spark the masterpiece you’ve been waiting to create.

Regular sweeping and occasional polishing are usually enough to keep them looking new for years. Parquet Flooring: A Timeless Classic for Modern Homes
Tumblr media
When it comes to elegant, timeless, and sophisticated flooring options, few materials can match the charm and versatility of parquet flooring. Known for its intricate patterns and rich appeal, parquet flooring has been a popular choice for centuries and continues to be a sought-after option in homes and commercial spaces worldwide. Whether you're renovating an old home or designing a new one, parquet flooring offers a combination of style, durability, and functionality that can transform any space. This blog explores the history, benefits, installation, and design possibilities of parquet flooring, helping you understand why it's a perfect choice for your home.
What is Parquet Flooring?
Parquet flooring is made up of small wooden blocks or tiles that are arranged in a geometric pattern. The word "parquet" is derived from the French word for "a small compartment or enclosure." The distinctive aspect of parquet flooring lies in the way these blocks or tiles are assembled into various patterns, such as herringbone, chevron, basket weave, and brick. Traditionally, parquet flooring is made from hardwoods like oak, walnut, and maple, but modern designs also include engineered wood, bamboo, and even vinyl options.
The History of Parquet Flooring
Parquet flooring dates back to the 16th century, originating in France during the reign of King Louis XIV. The original intent was to create flooring that resembled marble, but with a more practical and less expensive material. As the years passed, parquet gained popularity across Europe, especially in royal palaces and elite residences. The design and craftsmanship of parquet flooring became a symbol of wealth and elegance, and its intricate patterns made it a visually striking element in any room.
In the 20th century, parquet flooring experienced a resurgence, especially in the mid-century modern design era. Today, it remains a popular choice for both traditional and contemporary interiors, thanks to its timeless appeal and versatility.
Why Choose Parquet Flooring?
There are many reasons why parquet flooring remains a beloved choice for homeowners and designers. Below are some of the key benefits of choosing parquet flooring for your space:
Aesthetic Appeal
The beauty of parquet flooring is undeniable. Its geometric patterns add a sense of sophistication and luxury to any room. Whether you opt for the classic herringbone pattern, which adds a traditional touch, or a more modern chevron design, parquet flooring can be customized to fit your desired aesthetic. It also comes in various wood finishes, allowing you to choose a color that complements your interior design, from light oak to rich mahogany.
Durability
Parquet flooring is known for its durability, especially when made from high-quality hardwood. Unlike some other flooring options that may wear out or get damaged over time, parquet floors are built to last. With proper care and maintenance, parquet flooring can withstand heavy foot traffic, making it suitable for both residential and commercial spaces. Parquet floors are also less likely to dent or scratch compared to other hardwood floors, thanks to their dense construction.
Versatility in Design
One of the main attractions of parquet flooring is its versatility. Whether you're designing a traditional, rustic home or a sleek, contemporary space, parquet flooring can adapt to any style. The geometric patterns can be customized to create a range of visual effects, from bold and dramatic to subtle and understated. Additionally, parquet flooring can be installed in various layouts, such as diagonal, straight, or angled, depending on the desired look.
Increases Property Value
Due to its timeless appeal and high-end appearance, parquet flooring can significantly increase the value of your property. Real estate experts often suggest that homes with hardwood or parquet flooring sell faster and at higher prices than those with carpet or vinyl flooring. This makes parquet a smart investment if you're looking to improve the value of your home.
Easy Maintenance
Parquet floors are relatively easy to maintain. Regular sweeping and occasional mopping are usually all that’s needed to keep the floors clean and looking their best. Parquet flooring is also easy to refinish and restore if it starts to show signs of wear and tear. Unlike carpets, which can trap dust and allergens, parquet is much easier to keep clean and hygienic.
Installation of Parquet Flooring
Installing parquet flooring requires a certain level of skill and expertise. While it is possible to install parquet flooring yourself, it's typically recommended to hire a professional installer who is familiar with the intricate patterns and installation techniques required. The installation process usually involves laying down an underlayment, followed by the precise placement of the parquet tiles in the chosen pattern.
Additionally, there are different types of parquet flooring to consider:
Solid Parquet: Made from solid wood, this type offers a traditional and durable flooring solution. Solid parquet can be sanded and refinished multiple times to maintain its beauty.
Engineered Parquet: Made from layers of wood, engineered parquet is more stable and less susceptible to moisture damage compared to solid wood. It’s an excellent choice for areas with fluctuating humidity levels, such as kitchens and basements.
Prefinished Parquet: This type of parquet comes pre-finished with a protective layer, eliminating the need for sanding and finishing after installation. Prefinished parquet is a great option for quick installation and minimal maintenance.
Conclusion
Parquet flooring Abu Dhabi is a beautiful, durable, and versatile option that adds both character and elegance to any space. Whether you’re renovating an old home or building a new one, parquet flooring can enhance the aesthetic appeal of your interior and provide a long-lasting flooring solution. With its timeless charm, ease of maintenance, and ability to increase property value, parquet flooring remains one of the most popular choices for homeowners and designers around the world. If you’re considering parquet flooring for your next project, be sure to explore the wide range of design possibilities and choose a style that complements your home’s unique character.

Top Paver Patterns to Enhance Your Home’s Curb Appeal
Tumblr media
1. Herringbone Pattern
The herringbone pattern is timeless and features pavers laid in a zigzag formation. Known for its durability and visual interest, this pattern is especially effective for driveways and walkways as it provides excellent load distribution. Whether you opt for traditional bricks or modern concrete pavers, the herringbone pattern creates a sophisticated look that complements various architectural styles.
2. Basket Weave Pattern
The basket weave pattern brings a classic charm to outdoor spaces, evoking a vintage aesthetic reminiscent of cobblestone streets. This pattern alternates horizontal and vertical pairs of pavers, creating a woven appearance. It’s an excellent choice for patios and courtyards, particularly when combined with well-maintained brick repair and clean edges for a polished finish.
3. Running Bond Pattern
The running bond is one of the simplest and most versatile paver patterns. It involves laying pavers in a linear, offset pattern, similar to traditional bricklaying techniques in masonry. This pattern works well for pathways, driveways, and patios, offering a clean and modern look. Pair it with decorative edging or retaining walls for added depth and texture.
4. Circular or Radial Pattern
For a dramatic and unique design, consider a circular or radial paver pattern. This layout involves arranging pavers in concentric circles or spirals, creating a striking visual effect. It’s ideal for driveways, fire pit areas, or garden paths, where it can act as a centerpiece. Ensure precision during concrete construction or masonry work to maintain the pattern’s symmetry and integrity.
5. Stack Bond Pattern
The stack bond pattern is a minimalist design where pavers are aligned in a grid with no offset. Its geometric simplicity makes it a favorite for contemporary homes, offering a sleek and modern aesthetic. While visually appealing, this pattern is better suited for low-traffic areas like patios and courtyards, as it lacks the interlocking strength of other designs.
6. Chevron Pattern
Similar to herringbone but with a sharper and more structured appearance, the chevron pattern involves cutting pavers at precise angles to form a continuous “V” shape. This pattern adds a sense of movement and elegance to driveways and pathways. Combining it with contrasting materials or colors can further enhance its appeal, making it a standout feature in any masonry project.
7. Flagstone or Random Patterns
Consider using irregularly shaped flagstones in a random pattern for a natural, organic look. This style mimics the appearance of natural stone pathways, blending seamlessly with landscaping and gardens. It’s perfect for patios, pool decks, and walkways. Incorporating matching retaining walls can further emphasize the rustic charm of this pattern.
8. Ashlar Pattern
The ashlar pattern uses rectangular and square pavers in varying sizes, arranged in a repeating or random layout. This design balances structure and variety, offering a refined yet dynamic look. Ashlar patterns are highly versatile and work well for traditional and modern homes. High-quality concrete construction ensures the pattern remains consistent and durable over time.
9. Cobblestone Pattern
Cobblestone paver patterns evoke old-world charm and timeless elegance. Typically made from stone or brick, this pattern features small, rounded pavers arranged in interlocking layouts. It’s perfect for driveways and pathways where durability and aesthetics go hand in hand. Regular brick repair and proper sealing can keep the cobblestone looking pristine for years.
10. Combining Patterns for a Custom Look
If you want to make a bold statement, consider combining two or more patterns within the same project. For instance, you can frame a herringbone patio with a running bond border or use a circular pattern as a focal point surrounded by a stack bond layout. Collaborating with skilled masonry professionals ensures seamless transitions between patterns.

Trendy Backsplash Ideas to Lift Your Kitchen Aesthetics
A kitchen backsplash isn’t just a protective layer for your walls—it’s a focal point that can transform the entire room. Homeowners considering kitchen remodeling in Mundelein 60060, choosing the right backsplash adds personality and style to one of the most-used spaces in the house. But with so many options available, how do you find the right fit?
The key is blending functionality with flair. The right backsplash complements your cabinetry, countertops, and flooring while reflecting your taste. Whether you're leaning toward bold patterns or subtle elegance, there’s a style for every kitchen.
Classic Subway Tiles
Subway tiles have stood the test of time for good reason. Their clean, uniform look suits almost any kitchen design. To keep them fresh and modern, consider laying them in herringbone, chevron, or vertical stack patterns. A glossy white subway tile pairs effortlessly with dark grout for contrast, while softer hues like sage green or pale blue add a gentle pop of color.
Dramatic Marble and Quartz Slabs
For those seeking luxury, marble and quartz slab backsplashes are hard to beat. Extending your countertop material up the wall creates a seamless, sophisticated effect. The natural veining in marble introduces texture without the need for complex designs. This option works exceptionally well in kitchens with minimalist or contemporary aesthetics.

Vibrant Mosaic Patterns
Mosaic tiles are for homeowners who want their kitchen to make a statement. Small, intricate tiles in various shades can form geometric patterns or artistic designs. Glass mosaics reflect light beautifully, adding dimension to smaller kitchens. If bold colors aren’t your style, neutral mosaics with varying textures offer a subtle yet striking alternative.
Textured Brick or Stone
For a rustic or industrial vibe, exposed brick or stone backsplashes are a viable option. They bring warmth and character, creating an inviting, lived-in atmosphere. Pairing brick with wood cabinetry enhances that cozy farmhouse feel, while stone backsplashes work seamlessly in modern spaces when combined with sleek fixtures.
Metallic and Mirror Finishes
Metallic backsplashes are gaining traction in contemporary kitchens. Stainless steel, copper, or brushed gold adds a sleek, futuristic touch. Mirror-finish backsplashes, while unconventional, bounce light around the room and create the illusion of a larger space. This style pairs well with bold kitchen islands or dark cabinetry.
Artistic Hand-Painted Tiles
Hand-painted tiles provide an artisanal charm no machine can replicate. Their imperfect edges and unique patterns bring a sense of craftsmanship to your kitchen. This style is perfect for Mediterranean, Spanish, or eclectic kitchen designs. They may cost more, but the character they add is unmatched.
Unexpected Color Pops
Color isn’t just for walls and cabinets. A vibrant backsplash can anchor the kitchen’s entire design. Consider deep navy, emerald green, or rich terracotta for a backsplash that steals the show. When paired with neutral countertops and cabinetry, a colorful backsplash becomes the centerpiece without overwhelming the space.

Choosing the right backsplash is about creating a space you enjoy spending time in.
