Hi, I just came across your account and wanted to ask about characters with wasted potential, which I love to do already. This may come as a surprise, but the antagonists of the second MHA movie (Nine, Slice, Mummy and Chimera) are my favoriteHA characters, both in terms of design and small characteristics, so it was sad to see how the movie made their while goal be "remake the world into a Social Darwinism-type world where there is only survival of the fittest. I have my own headcanon on how I would change the group into revolutionaries who try to use their power to expose the unjustness and corruption of Hero Society, ideologically challenging Izuku, who know that what Nine is doing is the right thing, but it clashes with his own dream of becoming a Hero, which cannot happen when the Hero System is abolished once those injustices are brought to light. I would still like as to what you think about the four and how you would change them.
Hi @patrickowens86 👋
Iam going to be honest my knowledge of the MHA movies is honestly limited as I haven't watched them in their full entirety and the ones i did watch I probably forgot about.
That saying I actually enjoy your idea of making nine, chimera, mummy and slice into a revolutionist group and its a headcanon/rewrite that many have for the leauge of villains instead.
Nine is probably my favourite character in that movie and if Iam correct it was poverty that drove him to do what he did. Honestly I think it would be interesting if nine and his group had a team up with the league of villains and both were there to challenge Izuku and other characters views.
The abolishment of the hero system isnt inherently bad but it's definitely something that izuku may have difficulty in grasping because society has made him believe that to save a person you must be a hero.
Izuku's views and beliefs are ones that don't perfectly conform to the status quo but are different to the views of nine and the others. Izuku definitely needs many characters to challenge his views and vice versa. Izuku understanding that hero society is incredibly flawed is needed for his development and nine/ leauge of villains understanding that targeting kids won't get their point across and that heroes can also be victims of the system is also crucial.
Nine and his teams goal is something that I disagree with. Building a society based on only power so the most powerful are at the top and the least are at the bottom is a huge flaw within their thinking and ideology that they could develop out of.
I think the interesting thing is that all of these members have been ostracised by society due to their quirks and that's something that can connect them with either the leauge or some of the hero members.
Chimera was ostracised due to his mutant quirk which can connect him to spinner, shoji and koda.
Nine was driven to do this due to poverty which is something that both twice and ochako have experienced.
Slice was ostracised due to her powerful quirk which can connect to characters like lady nagant and hawks who were exploited due to their powerful quirks.
Personally I would build on their team dynamic and even have them offer nine help, question him and show that they're a strong team.
Checking from the wiki it's stated that slice and chimera worry about nine. It's also stated that nine shows his much more compassionate side to them so I would like to see more of that.

Nine and his crew cameo in TUM chapter 9.2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wish the whole chapter was just about them, so we could see more of their life together. Unlike the movie here we can see them in casual clothes.
Also this chapter shows again how much Chimera, Slice and Mummy care about Nine.
I really miss them.

New Updated MHA Nemesis Unrestrained
Because what better way to welcome the new blog than by posting the updated version of Class A and who'd I choose to have them as rivals...becuase yes.
Even now my brain still has better match-ups for some of them. This time Kaminari and Jiro!
Given this is a new blog will only be posting the line-up with the newest rivals, though if you want to check out what I had before, you can look at it here.
Deku - Shigaraki
Ochako - Toga
Todoroki - Dabi (For all three above, you likely know why already xD)
Bakugo - Muscular (Same as before, genuinely think that Bakugo beating down against one of the strongest of Deku's Rogue's Gallery who was supposed to kidnap him as a way to return the favor just writes itself)
Iida - Stain (Speedster vs someone who stops you in your tracks, both are very morally centric figures with codes on how they feel heroism should be upheld - really wished they clashed in the Final War)
Kirishima - Rappa (seriously, these guys were perfect rivals. Incredible defense veruse overpowering offense. WHERE WAS RAPPA DURING THE FINAL WAR??!!!)
Tsu - Spinner (already spoke of this in the series, but both are Heteroromorphs that dealth with ostracization and are their group's mutant support)
Momo - Re-Destro (Leader of the First Years vs Leader of the MLA, one that forged her own path as a Hero and overcome her anxiety to be a proper leadervs guy who was essentially groomed to be Destro V2 and his whole ordeal is putting himself under mass stress to be strong, even if he isn't liberated.)
Tokoyami - Twice (both struggle with keeping their powers under control and have a relationship with Hawks, so its pretty natural)
Aoyama - Kunieda (for what it's worth, Kunieda made for a scary villain for Aoyama, his loyalty to AFO made me want to know more on their relationship)
Kaminari - Tajima (Basically a match-up of two electric types of contrasting disposition, that also act as supports and backbones for their teams. Kaminari is a confident, if kind over his head, showoff that struggles with his reliability under pressure, but manages to overcome it for the sake of the right thing - for his pals. Tajima, meanwhile, is one consumed by his fear of AFO and gives in to his anxiety to the point of doing sabotaging efforts that could harm people to save his own skin)
Jiro - Shin Nemoto (A girl who could hear theoretically anything against a guy whose Quirk can allow him to always gain the truth. There's a potential for introspection on how people with these sorts of Quirks are trusted, or even distrusted. Perhaps Nemoto and her could relate to people always thinking they'll spy on them or that they can't ever speak freely? Just a thought!)
Mineta -Toya Setsuno (A villain whose had a rough love life and can steal anything against someone whose desperate for love/lust and can technically hold down anything with just his Quirk. In addition, Setsuno has low self esteem to Mineta's high ego. It's a dynamic/fight that really works)
Shoji - Chimera (a Spinner stand-in that Shoji actually fought, and lost, to before and would've been perfect to be his Nemesis)
Mina - Slice (Already have seeds of a good rivalry given how Mina ruined Slice's hair that she prides herself in. Perhaps Slice could have been similar to Mina in that both were their community's popular girls that tried their best to be defenders. But in Slice's case, those she helped eventually backstabbed her to leave her destitute, maybe even for someone else - hence why prides herself in, usually, just her power...least until she met Nine's crew )
Hagakure - Mummy (The Invisible (Wo)man versus a mummy. It writes itself and Hagakure presents an interesting dilemma to him since she's unaffected his Quirk due to her, ah, situation)
Koda - Trumpet (Yeah, still think Koda would've worked well as a shy yet caring boy standing against a cold, faux preacher)
Sero - Ending (Another person who wounded up being affected by a Todoroki and essentially waltzed through. Though while Ending became obssessed and wants to be done in by them, Sero's easygoing nature has him not revolve his life around his defeat or said Todoroki's beyond a few jabs. Basically Sero is the 'dude its not that serious' of the MHA verse that makes him prime to restrain someone whose kinda off the deep end or go against them.....and, you know, similar power sets).
Sato - Deidoro Sakaki (Scratch that. Guy who gains power from ingesting sugar, vs guy whose Quirk is stronger from ingesting alcohol makes for a far better match-up!)
Ojiro - Hakiji Tengai (A disciplined monk vs a disciplined martial artist; with the added bonus of a match of pretty 'basic' power standings: someone with a tail trying to whack a guy in a shield - it's a pairing I think could lead to an interesting way for Ojiro to win.)
But, yeah, if I had no restraints, this is who I would actually give as Class A's proper Nemesis throughout the series.

You know? It's kinda of funny how LOV fans treat the whole "I want to be a hero for villains" of Shigaraki as something groundbreaking, when the same concept was already introduced in the series (and was done better) with Nine.
Tumblr media
Unlike Shigaraki, Nine literally meet his team members when he saved their lives. In Chimera's case it was when a bunch of racists were about to execute him just for being a mutant.
Nine also was a hero for them in a more thematic level, as he not only save their lives but actually give his team mates a reason for live and fight. He offered them the chance to fight for create a better world. For me it's quite remarkable how Nine despite being a homeless and chronically ill person, go for save people he view as equally oppressed by the world.
He was selfless enough to sacrifice his own health using his quirk to save Chimera despite it was destroying his body, and without expecting nothing in exchange for share a dream Nine a hand to people at their lowest point.
That's much more of an "All Might for the villains" or whatever Horikoshi tried to make Shigaraki in the final moments. Or hell Nine even acts better as a foil to Deku in the sense both are selfless individuals who fight despite their bodies are crumbling, just for the save of the persons who are important to them.
How ironic is that Nine, the original movie villain that was supposed to be just a prototype for the "final villain" of MHA, ended executing the same themes way better than Shigaraki.
Hi @nyc3 👋
A main reason as to why people treat shigaraki's I want to be a hero for the villains ideology better than nine's is simply because I assume a lot of people forgot the plot of the 2nd movie or haven't read the one shot manga chapter mha leauge of villains undercover. All of this is a shame because I heavily agree that nine's version of I want to be a hero and hope for the villains is executed and built up 10000x times better than shigarakis and nine had a fraction of the screentime that shigaraki got which is saying a lot.
Actually rewatching the film and rereading the manga one-shot has showed me that nine and shigarakis arcs are pretty similar with nine's having a better execution and shigaraki having more wasted potential.
The movie sets it clear that nine and shigaraki are supposed to be foils for one another so it makes sense that they would share parallels. However, you would expect that by the time nine is defeated that shigaraki would naraatively prove to us that he is ultimately the better character but in truth he doesn't and nine's downfall by shigaraki ends up being quite disappointing to me.
Another problem within the narrative is also the lack of interactions that nine and shigaraki have. I think that nine is essential to helping shigaraki and start to infulence him to realise that he is just a puppet and should develop a goal outside of just destruction. If shigarakis goal stays as destruction then the destruction of what? Everything? And how would that benefit anyone including him?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nine like you said meets his teammates and saves them. He sees his teammates suffer like him and chooses to help them and they choose to help him. There is a clear relationship being developed and all the characters come together for the same goal, with similar backgrounds and varying styles yet they work.
When nines team see him in distress they run to help him and vice versa. The team has trust and overall everything that a lot of the leauges dynamics and development lacks.
Nine seeks destruction but his path is clear. He seeks to liberate and let nature flow its course with the strong overtaking the weak and finally being leaders instead of feared and abused because they don't fit into the small little box that is the mha's status quo. Nine plans to get stronger while being fully conscious and knowing the consequences. He makes a logical and heroic decision where we see him realise that he is trading his own autonomy and agency in becoming a lab rat all in exchange for power and a slim chance at achieving his goal.
This is all contrasted with shigaraki and his actions. We don't see his goal of destruction develop into a much more consistent and precise idea like destroying the giver and status quo. We don't see shigaraki fully conscious to come to the conclusion that yes the doctor is evil but he needs power. We lack everything from shigaraki and the information of chapter 419 just makes his character worse as shigaraki was a lab rat through and through.
Horikoshi tries to make shigaraki the better character but nine outclassed him in every way possible from the traumatic beginnings, to the developed flawed goal and to the final bitter end where we see nine crumble due to various factors 1)shigarakis decay and 2) his illness whereas shigaraki dies due to afo still being a lab rat that fulfills his purpose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of this reminds me of the ask that said mha's manga ending is a sloppy edited 2nd movie ending (except I was only looking at it from a hero perspective but it even applies to the villains)
Nine deserved better!
