Chozen’s heart is in his mouth as he disembarks from the plane and makes his way through the airport.  He waits nervously at baggage reclaim, one eye on the conveyor belt as his mind races; was the message he left Kumiko too forward?  Is that why she never called back?  Or was it just jumbled, the meaning lost in his broken English?

By the time he grabs his bag he’s convinced himself that she’ll probably never want to see him again, so it’s a surprise and a relief when he spots her beautiful face in the crowd, beaming at him.

Next up is Chozen!

Chozen is gay.

Now I think in his teen years he was a lot like Johnny and had a bit of internalised homophobia but I think since he’s a lot more gentle with Daniel as an adult than Johnny is he was able to find healthier ways to deal with his issues and his trauma and was able to come to terms with his sexuality a lot sooner. He still has days where his past gets to him but he’s found healthier ways to cope.

He most definitely had a crush on Daniel and it annoyed him so much. He tried to disguise it and his anger at Daniel when he first met him was helpful in hiding it. I genuinely thought that in the club scene that Chozen was going to tell Johnny that it was Daniel he loved and I was pretty thrown when he said Kumiko lmao.

He always felt like he couldn’t tell his uncle but he definitely got to a place later in life where he could discuss it with him and still have support from others if he didn’t support him.

Even after everything Kumiko took time to listen to him and support him. She could tell that he had a crush on Daniel and both understood how it felt to love him. Chozen used to feel a little jealous that Kumiko was the one who got to date Daniel but once he was older and dealt with his anger he never blamed her or resented her. It still upset him a little but that’s natural.

When he reunited with Daniel later on he was happy that he could have a happier and healthier friendship with him but his feelings definitely returned.

Since I see Daniel as bisexual I definitely think in a version where I don’t have lawrusso happen Daniel would definitely develop feelings for Chozen after reuniting with him and after splitting from Amanda (they both remain really good friends) he is able to start dating Chozen once they realise that they both like each other. They have such a gentle and sweet relationship in the latest season so I think they’d have a happy relationship. Chozen is so happy once he’s dating Daniel.

Daniel definitely found him attractive too but then again I think he’s attracted to most of his enemies.

Chozen is ready to fight for Daniel he loves him so much.

OUUUUUUUGH ALISUSAN MENTIONED THIS IS GONNA BE GOOD

how do I even begin to explain alisusan? alisusan is flawless. they have twelve (12) ship tag mentions on ao3 and i hear their ship name is insured for $10,000.

more seriously i really do love them. i love when fandoms collectively create a ship out of thin air (which is much of the same for dutch/jimmy) and i LOVE the dynamic of pining friend x oblivious friend. i also think the fandom’s characterization of susan is extremely funny (lesbian who Hates Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso So So Much) literally she is so me (i love them to death). and well, i am never saying no to wlw ships because 1) there are so little!!! 2) i Love Women.

i love dutch/jimmy lots too! i find it more complicated to write myself than some other cobra ships because jimmy is a very barebones character BUT it makes it great to come up with whatever you want (and also susan herself is also very very up to interpretation). dutch/cobra ships are kind of my fav, i love that guy (he is a crusty white dog who bites people to me ❤️)

chozen and kumiko could be SO CUTE! im not exactly a fan of how cobra kai is always trying to get everyone in a relationship but i do like this one… hypocritical of me a bit…

i just think it’s sweet! i think chozen is such a fun character in cobra kai who has changed so much and deserves to be happy and i think if kumiko ever wanted a guy who would DEDICATE HIMSELF TO HER HAPPINESS, well i know a man for her.

Samtory, Lawrusso, and Danmiko for the ship bingo!!

Samtory/Lanichols:

I love this ship! I doubt it’ll be canon, and tbh I’m fine with that, because generally there are only a few authors I trust to write it well anyway (and within the canon, Samguel has been the driving force throughout all the seasons, so it would be bizarre to throw that away). Canonically, I just want Samtory friendship. Thank you s5 for that (even tho Sam apologizing to Tory first was weird…literally why)

I think Sam and Tory have a fascinating dynamic that some fanfic authors make brilliant use of—and yes, I did color in “they could fix each other” and “they could make each other worse” because tbh it could go either way and I think it goes both ways at times 😂 in fanon, they’re amazing! I have 3 fics about them in my AO3 recs, which I highly recommend 💞

Lawrusso:

I’ve talked before about how I don’t like this ship as much as I used to, and it’s because I liked it back when Johnny was a more interesting character who seemed to have an actual arc and growth going for him. There was even a time when I shipped Lawrussomanda (aka the ship with no good OT3 name), because the three of them had such a great dynamic in the early seasons!

But my dislike of Lawrusso now stems from my dislike of Johnny as a character. So much regression and so much backsliding and pointless drama *sigh* I only like them when Johnny is written as a better character (which is why it depends who’s writing them and how they write Johnny).

(However if you wanna read a great fic about them…Root Beer Floats and Green Tea by @desolateice is super long but so incredibly worth it imo 💞 it’s movie-verse and picks up right after KK1!!)

Damiko:

In the movies, they’re my absolute OTP 💞 in the show, Amaniel’s married, so Damiko besties. Hence, it’s complicated 😂 I liked a few of their s3 scenes, but some others felt like ship-teasing (and I somewhat believe that they dropped the Chozen x Kumiko tease because they realized that they implied emotional cheating and had to cover it up)

I will always, however, side-eye the show writers for not making Damiko married at the show’s outset when it would’ve been so easy to get them back together. Like?? Would that not also make Sam’s arc more interesting?? A half-Japanese kid (maybe one who looks white passing, if they wanna keep Mary Mouser)?? Especially if they kept the white-passing aspect, it could’ve contributed to Sam’s conflict between karate/heritage and fitting in! I just…*sigh*

(This series, btw, is a fantastic Damiko post-KK2 AU, I can’t recommend it enough 💞)

Daniel blinked back tears. “Yeah.”
