Paradise, the fresco decorating the interior dome of the baptistry of Padua Cathedral, painted by Giusto de' Menabuoi, circa 1378.
We have baptism, brethren, for regeneration and divine birth, one faith, one hope, one God, who is above all and through all and in us all. In His love, He gathers us together to Himself and makes us members of and one of Himself.
Gregory Palamas (On Peace §3a, a homily given in December of 1350 or January of 1351)

Viktor Mikhaylovich Vasnetsov (Russian, 1848-1926) Christ the Pantocrator, ca.1885-96 State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow “How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob, and your dwelling places, O Israel!… Blessed is the one who blesses you, and cursed is the one who curses you!” (Numbers 24:5, 9). Blessing is promised to those who bless Abraham and his descendants: “I will bless those who bless [Israel], and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3). The lover of Jerusalem prospers: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May those who love her prosper!” (Psalms 122:6)

"Oh yes." Will Graham, intro of s2e13 Mizumono. on our left, deferential and loyal to Jack, on our right, determined and committed to his and hannibals future
Tumblr media
Christ Pantocrator of Sinai, meant to depict on the one hand the merciful aspect, and on the other, the demanding or angry aspect, of Christ.
literally tell me these are not identical oh my god down to the shape of his eyebrows and angle of his eyes. screaming and pantocrator meaning "ruler of all" -- Will (and notice his name here again, relevant again, Will's will, etc) being the orchestrator of this episode or considering himself that way but we know hannibal had a surprise for him and really even Will does not know yet how he is going to act

#DailyDevotion Jesus Is King Who Rules From Everlasting Psalm 93 The LORD is King! He is clothed with majesty. The Lord dresses in power, fastening His belt. The world also was made to stand firm and can't be moved. It is written in Deut. 32, “5And He was King in Jeshurun when their leaders were gathered and the tribes of Israel were united.” Jeshurun is a symbolic name for Israel which is upright which it never fulfilled. Moses recalls the covenant between the LORD and Israel at Mt. Sinai where the LORD became Israel's King. Now, the LORD is King. That is Jesus is the LORD who is King. That is what the Holy Spirit inspired Pontus Pilate to put above Jesus' head when He was crucified. Of course, Jesus didn't remain dead. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven at the right hand of God. In Hebrews 1:8 it is written of Jesus, “But to the Son He says: Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and You rule Your kingdom with a scepter of righteousness.” In Acts 2 Peter says, “34David didn't go up to heaven, but he says: 'The Lord says to my Lord, “Sit at My right 35until I make Your enemies Your footstool.” 36“Then all the people of Israel should know it's true that God made Him Lord and Christ — this Jesus Whom you crucified.” So the Psalm here says, the LORD is King and He is clothed with majesty. Jesus is this LORD. He dresses in power fastening His belt. All power, honor, glory and might belong to our ascended LORD. It is Jesus who preserves the world by His power and might. 2Long ago Your throne was made to stand firm — You are from everlasting. Jesus' throne was made to stand firm before creation. His throne is from everlasting. He humbled Himself to come down from His throne to become man to save humanity from their sins and from death. Now He has brought His humanity with Him to the right hand of the Father and is seated again upon His throne forever. In baptism, our humanity is joined with His and we too, even now, are seated with Him in the heavenly places. (Eph. 2) From this throne Jesus rules with an iron rod and will judge the nations who oppose His reign. 3O LORD, the rivers make a noise; the rivers make their roaring noise; the rivers make a crashing noise 4but more than the noise of vast waters and mightier than the waves of the sea is the might of the LORD above! You should really watch a video on Youtube of a large shipping ship in a storm at sea. These ships are huge but on the ocean they are no more that a toy ship in your bathtub as they are thrown about. Yet this very same LORD walked upon the stormy sea. He commanded the wind and the waves to be still. As mighty as the seas are they are a mere toy to the majesty and power of our LORD Jesus Christ. The stormy seas are often used as a symbol for the politics of the world. Jesus' power and might guide the nations to their conclusion of providing for His Church, the gathering of His people from every language, nation, tribe and people and judging the nations who try to rebel against Him. They do not win. The might of Jesus is above all. 5The truths You wrote are absolutely trustworthy. In Your temple, O LORD, holiness is beautiful forever. The Word of the LORD which He gave to His prophets and apostles are absolutely trustworthy. All of His promises come to pass. We are the temple of the LORD in whom His holiness is beautiful forever. So He is constantly purifying us in this life to make us holy. Heavenly Father, Your power, honor, glory and might is demonstrated and seen in Your Son, Jesus Christ. May we put our trust in Him forever. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

Christ Enthroned, by Kelly Latimore.
Today, the vision that the world gives us for happiness is basically that we have to get everything right. If I go to the right college and I get the right job, and then I find the right spouse and I get the right friends, and then I live in the right place — if I get that all right, then I'll be happy. It's no wonder we all have so much anxiety. Because that's a lot of stuff to try to get right. What's the problem with this picture? Well, the problem is that I'm at the center, and I'll never get all that right, and no one of those things will ever satisfy me. And so, in order to be happy, what do I have to do? I have to dethrone myself from the center of my life, put Jesus at the center, and then ask Him: Jesus, where do you want me to go to college? What's the career you made me for? Who am I supposed to marry, if I'm supposed to get married? What's my vocation? All these questions come when I realize Jesus is Lord.
- Bishop Andrew Cozzens (Beautiful Eucharist, pages 47-48). Italics original.
[O]nce you know that, in Christ, God is forever overcoming the gap between human and divine — the Christian path becomes less about climbing and performance, and more about descending, letting go, and unlearning. Knowing and loving Jesus is largely about becoming fully human, wounds and all, instead of ascending spiritually or thinking we can remain unwounded. The ego does not like this fundamental switch at all, so we keep returning to some kind of performance principle, trying to climb out of this messy incarnation instead of learning from it.
- Fr. Richard Rohr, O.F.M. (The Universal Christ, page 110)
Come and see the works of the Lord who has done fearsome deeds on the earth; who stops wars to the ends of the earth, breaks the bow, splinters the spear, and burns the shields with fire; "Be still and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth." The LORD of hosts is with us; Our stronghold is the God of Jacob. Selah.
Psalm 46:9-12

"God is looking into our eyes through the eyes of Jesus. In Jesus, God is personally present, offering His infinite, unchanging friendship to every man, woman and child in the world. What Jesus has done is to unveil the Father so that we have communion with Him. "

This is the Buddy for September first. New month, new Buddy.
I've done some religious-themed Buddies before, although they're not too obvious. And today's Buddy, despite not being related to any special day, also has a bit of a religious theme.
He's also pretty ugly. It's pretty clear I drew it - or at least the face - using the symmetry tool on FireAlpaca. So much for beauty being founded on symmetry, uh?
