April and the Extraordinary World (2015)
Format: Animated feature-length movie.
Directors: Christian Desmares and Franck Ekinci.
Writers: Franck Ekinci and Benjamin Legrand.
Is J.K. Simmons in this? Yes, although you wouldn’t know it to look at him, since he portrays a talking cyborg dinosaur.
Who does he portray? He provides the English voice acting for Rodrigue, the co-leader of a group of talking cyborg dinosaurs who kidnap scientists.
What does he do? Kidnaps scientists and forces them to work for him, mostly.
How bald is he? Baldness isn’t really a concept that applies to talking cyborg dinosaurs, which the character portrayed by J.K. Simmons definitely is.
Is anybody else in this? Yes, and most of them are human beings.
Well, all the people in it are human beings. But not all the characters are. Some of the characters are talking cyborg dinosaurs.
Is it worth seeing if I’m not a J.K. Simmons completist? Yes, absolutely. It takes the really pulpy sensibility that I get the impression is in a lot of bandes dessinées (feel free to correct me on this, as I haven’t read a lot of comics from that area of the world) and marries it with a humanistic worldview that vaguely reminds me of Hayao Miyazaki. I could’ve done without the romance subplot, but all in all this is just a really excellent piece of work.
