Okay, I absolutely adore Rule Of Rose and I would honestly say you'd have a better experience just watching someone play it or watching a video essay on it rather than playing it. Like that anon mentioned it was rushed... Yeah, it was rushed to the point that some of the standard enemies in the finished product are placeholders. Not to mention the company had only made one other game before Rule Of Rose which was a weird as hell game called Chulip where the end goal was to kiss every townsperson (Don't ask, I genuinely don't know), and then they got shut down after Rule Of Rose flopped.

But the story of Rule Of Rose is fantastic. Depressing as hell, but so well written. I would honestly recommend watching a review of it by NitroRad, or a video essay I saw for it ages ago by... I think his channel name was like... RagnaRox or something along those lines??? Can't remember the channel name but the video was very good.

Although if you're not interested, feel free to ignore me. I just saw the name Rule Of Rose and something just ignited in my brain so I felt compelled to say something.

Have you heard of the game Chulip? A lot of the settings/characters seem like they might be up your alley ^^

i havent!! ive sadly never been much of a gamer BUT that doesnt stop me from indulging in certain game related medias through gameplays and whatnot- ill need to check this out!! ty for the recommendation :D

my wotr review so far is although i dont care for the way like any character talks and i think everyone is constantly saying too many words (i wpuld know im good at doing that myself) i like the style otherwise i enjoy it the most when shit slows down and the story is being told to me instead of shown through stiff animations between a handful of voicelines which is the worst way to tell a story period imo but especially when youre telling one in such a limited form of the medium a narrative voice is an easy solution to those limitations and i dont get why it isnt utilized throughout the game. it wouldnt break The Immersion any more than the repetitive encounter design does especially the big epic clashes where my brain starts leaking out my ears while i wait for 10 npcs in a row to take their turns even sped up this brings me to my main gripe which is that this game has no respect for my time, a finite thing that contrary to what some may believe i do have other things i need or want to do with. the only game that can so cheekily waste my time and earn my forgiveness anyway due to its charm is chulip. you are not chulip. you are a game based off a ttrpg made by and for people who feel that d&d of all things doesnt allow them to suck their own dicks to their desired level of precision and efficiency and incidentally have very wringable necks

About the story…

The idea for The Book of Purgatory came up in my high school days, when I started to become interested in drawing my own depictions of characters from books who lacked an official appearance. As a kid I’d always been into old books, notably, I was a huge fan of Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 5th grade. In college I thought of a weird idea to make something where characters from books interacted in a crossover, and eventually, through an English class I discovered my main character in Faust. After deciding coding a game and animating a cartoon were too difficult, I settled on comics, my nearly-forgotten childhood passion. I have often worried that literature purists might dislike how I portray the characters, but overall I wanted to take stories I loved and use them to explore my own ideas and feelings, which could give an alternate interpretation to the stories. As the comic is partly my own writing and partly an adaptation, I must give writing credit to the original authors of the works. Chapter 2 is an adaptation of The Mysterious Stranger by Mark Twain, with some parts removed and some parts added by myself. Chapter 5 is an adaptation of Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, specifically, I used quotes from Walter Kaufmann’s English translation.

I’m Yaxsha, 22 years old and currently still a college student. Art is my life’s passion but not my occupation, because I think that’d ruin it for me. I love drawing things cuter than they need to be, and making colors brighter than they need to be. Aside from drawing, my life’s other love is cooking, probably the only thing I feel confident talking about. Naturally I also love my video games, my top five being EarthBound, Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, Yuppie Psycho, Chulip, and Tales of Symphonia. I am also a longtime D&D player and Dungeon Master known for running unorthodox, emotion-filled stories. My art is highly inspired by weird, cult-following stuff such as Gregory Horror Show, Popee the Clown, Fake Type, Hellsing, Devilman, Okage, and some retro Japanese, French, and Russian animation. My life’s dream is to make other people happy with my art, my genuine art that comes from my real passion.

okay so I never actually ever finished watching a full playthru of the game but I want to. I think it seems like something that ranboo would stream tho!
