hi baby!!
this made me super happy, I'm a reader by heart, and getting to talk about books makes me so excited 😭
okay, so, I read anything, literally any genre (even tho I'm a whore for true crime/thiller), so I'm gonna try and indicate a little bit of everything between some of the ones I read this year:
1. Say You Swear by Megan Brandy (emotional romance) (4/5)
2. How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie (thriller / humor) (4.5/5)
3. Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool (adventure / romance) (4/5)
4. Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky (horror / suspense) (4/5)
5. Love & Gelado by Jenna E Welch (romance) (4.8/5)
6. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (sci-fi) (5/5)
7. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (romance) (5/5)
8. The Burning Girls by CJ Tudor (thriller) (4.5/5)
9. The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley (thriller / romance) (4/5)
10. The Enigma of Room 622 by Joel Dicker (true crime) (5/5)
11. The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori (dark romance) (5/5)
if you want more, I have an infinity list LMAO 😭

Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool
2011 Newbery Medal Winner
Adapted by Jaylee of Oak Crest Elementary (2025)
From San Antonio, TX
Judges' Remarks: Although these illustrations were well-drawn and the voiceover performances had lots of verve, the story (as interesting as it was!) didn't seem to have anything at all to do with Moon Over Manifest.

For the ask game, 7, 10, 15, and 22
Thanks for the ask! 7. Earbuds or headphones? Earbuds, they're small and portable, and when I was still in school it was easy to slip them in without anybody noticing 10. Game you were best at in P.E.? I don't really remember what game I was best at in P.E., but I do know I was pretty good at walking for a long period of time back then (still am now, got a pacing habit/stim lol) 15. Favorite book you read as a school assignment? Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool. The inspiration I got from it kickstarted what is now my most developed (and my favorite) story/worldbuilding project. I didn't care for many of the books I had to read for assignments but this is one of the few that stuck 22. Role model? Hmm, tough question. I look up to a lot of various creators of various media, but if I had to choose one, Toby Fox.

Book Nut's 20th Anniversary: Interviews!
For a while in the late 2000s/early 2010s, after I’d been blogging for a while, I decided it’d be fun to interview the authors of some of the books I loved. Scrolling through, It’s an eclectic bunch of authors – some of which I know I initiate, and some of which I’m sure the author initiated. I remember being super nervous to reach out to Clare Vanderpool to do the interview (though now she comes…

[The World of Jazz - The Original]
* * * *
"And if Mozart is for Sundays, who do you listen to the rest of the week?" "Louis Armstrong on Mondays, Frank Sinatra on Wednesdays. And Glenn Miller on Fridays, unless it's raining. If it's raining, it's always Billie Holiday." "What about Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday?" I asked. "Those days are quiet. Unless it's raining."

No, the sky, it is not a contest or an exam. The only question is, can you look up? Can you take it all in?

Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool
2011 Newbery Medal Winner
Adapted by Delano Intermediate School (2024)
From Delano, MN
Judges' Remarks: This movie sprinted through the highlights of the story at a blinding speed, if a little bit helter-skelter, so that it would be hard for the audience to know what was going on if they hadn't already read the book. The green screen was resourcefully deployed and there was good background music to match the moods of the various scenes. I appreciated the costumes, like the countrified overalls on Abilene. The performances were lively and fun to watch, although sometimes the dialogue was a little muffled. A solid effort.
