Art Intervention: Behind The Scenes By Shelly De La Rosa
Who knew a mood board would cause an impact on people?
When I was first introduced to the task of creating my own art intervention, at first I had no idea what that meant or how I would orchestrate it. My art education professor, Marissa, gave my class and me full control which coming up with the idea and conducting it. When I was thinking about what I wanted to do, I knew I wanted an intervention about spreading positivity or making people happy.  As I was brainstorming,  I started reflecting on my life in the past year and how the pandemic and lockdown really affected me mentally. I remember one day during the lockdown, I was having a bad day with my mental health. I isolated myself from my family the whole day and I was accompanied with my thoughts worrying about the world and the future. I then decided to make a list on the notes app of things that I’m grateful for today. I listed even the little things and found myself cheering myself up. I looked at that list and realized how lucky I am to things and people in my life. So that list gave me the idea for my art intervention. I decided why not have people start thinking about the things they are grateful for and things they’re looking forward to achieving And since it’s art, why not gather participants to get crafty as well.
Soooo, my art intervention was all about creating a mood board!
Tumblr media
With what’s happening to the world, everyone needs cheering up and a distraction from the world’s evilness. I thought creating a mood board was a fun and creative way to start thinking about your personal happiness and goals. My goal is that when they create their mood board, they’ll feel inspired again and gain that drive of achieving their goals.
When I created my mood board, it was a bit difficult at first because I gratefully already have so many things that make me happy. But I didn’t know how to interpret that in images or art. My list of happiness wasn’t materialistic things but rather more deep meanings like self-confidence, Self-love, and career goals. Then I remembered that there aren’t any rules for making a mood board. I can add ANYTHING like symbols that could represent more to you. Nobody has to understand what everything in the mood board should mean except you. After I was done with my creation, I was SO HAPPY with it. I loved how it turned out like the color scheme and the variation of images and symbols.
Tumblr media
Now it was time to ask other people to participate in my intervention. I gave my participants a gist of my purpose for the intervention and told them that they have full control over creating their mood board. The outcome exceeded my expectations. I loved witnessing their creations through Canva and noticed that each mood board was so different and unique!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I asked a few how they felt after creating one and my friend Shyan said, “I felt relieved after completing my mood board because I was able to visually see my goals and what drives me".
While my other friend said that it got them out of their comfort zone, "At first, I felt out of place because I'm not a creative person but this pushed me and I loved how it came out!"
In the end, I’m so happy that it turned out a success, and a thank you to my Professor for an amazing class this semester! Definitely one of my favorites <3

The working day needs to be shorter, but the movement has got to drop or heavily contextualize the line that "only X hours of work is done anyway". My current job has people working 24 hours a day in shifts and the work barely gets done most days. It doesn't get finished at all some days. There are no meetings or fluff emails or long water-cooler chit chats that could be cut out to reduce our hours en mass. Every single one of my coworkers ends up working over the 40 by at least an hour per week. Plenty of jobs in medicine, retail, sanitation, shipping, manufacturing, etc are like this. The only way to shorten our shifts is to dramatically increase hiring.
The labor movement needs to stop presenting the "only 4-6 hours of productivity a day" line in a way that presumes a workforce of white collar office jobs and instead focus on what being forced to physically produce for longer than that day in and day out every week for years does to a person's physical, mental, and social health. Alongside that, start thinking about the shortened work day as a jobs program and include measures to get people the training needed to fill specialized positions, because in many sectors that's the only way it can become feasible.

Week 1, Post 2: Audubon (Class Summary)
In class, I was enlightened on many things that I didn’t know, but definitely am glad that I know now. As simple as it is, we were handed a worksheet with a set of materials. I’ve taken a lot of art classes before, but using a feather as a way to brush away any dust or eraser particles is genius. I’m definitely going to invest in getting one.
I also now understand why old maps had fantastical-looking beasts! They are probably artist renditions of sailors’ tales of whales and such, and krakens are exaggerations of sailors telling of mysterious, giant squids. Looking at Ulisse Androvandi and Albrecht Drüer’s work was enlightening--even going back to Arthur Lakes’s dinosaur dig photo showed how art was useful in many aspects for furthering scientific research, as well as acting as a catalogue.
Scientific drawing is all about accuracy, and I believe that’ll be a personal struggle. I tend to exaggerate features, as well as colors (especially colors) so to tone them back and to be as accurate to the specimens I’m drawing will be a challenge I’m ready to take. I’m excited to learn about nature and to unify both art and science, two personal passions of mine.
And I’ll definitely make sure to sign my work!

My name is Sarah. I’m an art student majoring in None of Your Business with a minor in Something Related to Business and I’m just a smol struggling college student trying to survive weirdly relevant classes. If you’re an art-type major, you definitely understand. This blog is about Digital and New Media Art... I guess. Because it’s for a grade.  But if you like it, you’re still able to follow this blog (I think). Anyway, my blogs will seem randomish, but it’s art, so whatever.

I surround myself with makeup not negativity! - unknown author
One of my makeup inspiration is this lady right here! Viva_glam_kay on Instagram and on YouTube. I watched her very first YouTube video and saw her talent grow over the years and this is why I have chosen her for my next look.
I’ve decided for my next post, I will be attempting to complete this look and ask y'all what you think! If I succeed lol 😂 which is a big IF, maybe you guys can suggest some other looks you want me to try.

Brainstorming critical thinking on “Singular they”
When first pulling up the website I notice the lay out is different than those of other websites. It has big bolded letter with pops of red colored hearts, sitting on a background of what looks like wrinkled or folded notebook book paper. This catches my attention more due to the fact it looks very inviting and doesn’t look as boring as most web pages do. I also noticed that THEY was in capitol and bolded letters, almost as if it was saying this page is meant for everyone not just he/she type gender. With the big red heart and the notebook paper is takes me back to the middle school days, when you open up a love letter. There is a arrow on the lower right corner and when you press on it is floats you to the next visual article. With a big bright blue flowy word “neutral”, it automatically has me thinking that neutral meaning there is no better side. They is supporting to all sides and puts in consideration for everyone. Located in the blue paragraph below is there are hyperlinks that take you to off-site articles. These articles there to help give you a little reading on the background and meaning behind the “singular they”. Again, pressing the arrow in the bottom right corner it takes you to the “Its’ Easy” in yellow children’s blocks writing. I believe it’s easy is meaning it is literally easier to not label something or someone that singular they is easier than trying to classify someone and be wrong or offensive. Again there is a yellow matching paragraph included and has a sing songy kind of verse to help give more background to help understand the meaning. Clicking the next arrow, you see the word inclusive with illustrated arms wrapping it in a tight hug. The feeling I get seeing this is that it is inviting and comforting! In the paragraph below is riddles off a poem like paragraph that draws your attention in to feeling more attentive to the openness behind singular they. Right arrow click down, bright purple letters, Classy. I had trouble thinking out what they meant by classy. When reading the paragraph with it you learn that they list how long this has really been a thing “singular they”, many important people used it and it was much respected then and in that sense it’s classy. This entire webpage was written more as like a journal with true thoughts and feelings behind it, meant to grab its reader’s attention. It doesn’t have distracting ads like usual web pages, what it has to distract you is the very words they want you to pay attention to. This also reminded me a lot of how a children’s book is written in the intent to grab your attention but short and sweet and to the point.

Update- I finished my eye scene except for the fade at the end which I need some help with (I’m not sure if transparency fade is something I can do in Animate CC or if I have to do it in Premiere?).  It seems a little fast near the end but that should be fixed with he fade out.

UWRT Journal
How do you see composing processes for text based essays and video compositions overlapping
Videos and writing compositions are very similar. The objective of both of them is to get a message across. Writing is more straightforward because it is usually telling you what it wants you to think. On the other hand a digital video can make you form an opinion by showing you a certain perspective. Both compositions have had lots of thought put into them and are geared to give people ideas.
