fun fact in case i havent told this story here: riolu was one of my first shinies in a main series game! i dont think it was THE first, but how i got it was pretty fun:

my sister and i have a long-standing tradition of getting both versions of a game. i would get one, she would get the other. even through our tumultuous relationship as siblings, it was always a chance to finish the pokedex together.

when sword and shield came out, my sister, being older and with a job, bought Shield immediately. i had to wait until christmas to get my own copy of Sword. when i finally had it, my sister had beaten the game, and when i lamented to her that Lucario was a level 60 encounter (riolu and by extension lucario being one of my favorite pokemon, especially when i was younger), she bred a Riolu egg and traded it to me. nothing special, and just one, just so i could have one on my team while i played.

as you may be able to guess, a full-odds shiny hatched out of the egg. needless to say she was SO fucking mad

so thats why i love shiny riolu so much!

tamlin “trapped” feyre after all negotiations broke down with the certainty of knowing feyre would endanger herself and others temporarily

from the wu this fandom talks about it you’d think he’s mother gothel but like. it was only until he came back. it wasn’t like he had her isolated, restricting access to who got to see her. he offered to invite her sisters - she was the one who said no! i really don’t see how it’s comparable to feyre + the ic making nesta stay on a remote island for what it’s worth with two near strangers who she has little to no positive associations with if they can’t be considered the cause of all her trauma in the first place (in that they are fae etc)

whereas nesta’s sentence (bc let’s face it she was sent to azkaban as punishment with a fun caveat like “you’re free if you can cross the sea! and manage to maintain a sense of identity while around guards who remind you how terrible you are of course!”) is indefinite and it’s pretty obvious from everything that comes after that it’s just something she’s expected to make the best of as opposed to something that can get better with time.

and cassian being her jailer whose amicability she has to earn by performing rigorous physical activity she had no interest in even if she grew to love it.. i wonder if she’s had that experience before

You know I restrained myself from posting more on this because I’m such a hater sometimes lol, gotta focus on more positive things sometimes but... I’ll get this out of my chest.

I wanna preface by saying I do not care if people like Cassian/Nessian, truly. I even like fanon Cassian and fanon Nessian. I also have seen very little people that like Cassian bashing Tamlin (probably bc of my filters and just the type of blogs I follow bc I do love them all) BUT☝🏼 what I do see is a lot of “Disclaimer: we know Tamlin is an abuser” on Tamlin neutral posts (when no other character gets that treatment) or using Tamlin as a cautionary tale of how he treated Feyre and then praise the other “mates” for being “the right ones” and treating them correctly or something, which does annoy me a bit, but alas.

In my opinion yes, you are right, what Cassian and the Inner Circle did to Nesta is a million times worse than what Tamlin did to Feyre, but nobody, nobody considers Cassian’s actions in Silver Flames as bad as they actually are. Nobody considers him an abuser like Abusive Tamlin™️. When talking about what Nesta has endured in SF people put all the blame on Rhys and Feyre (which yes of course) but they forget Cassian was also there, willingly.

I’ve seen people use the argument that both Nesta and Cassian treated each other poorly in their relationship, but I have to ask… what did Nesta do to him that’s worse than what he did… intentionally. She was mean to him and called him bastard like four times? And only when he trespassed her boundaries. Somehow this is comparable to him being her jailer, taking her to train in the middle of Illyria, being a dick when he knew she was struggling, telling her everyone hates her and he cannot understand why her sisters love her, controlling her food intake as if she’s a gym bro or something when she clearly had an eating disorder, not telling her that Feyre was not mad at her and letting her BREAK while making her carry a huge backpack and forcing her on a hike not talking to her for days, to the point she fainted and fell on her face near a cliff?? (this because she made Rhys mad). Anyway the list goes on.

And you know what I don’t care if people like this guy after all this, but it is just funny how somehow Neris shippers are the “morally dubious” ones lol (and don’t get me started on Tamlin stans aka the devil worshippers), because Nesta said she “deserved Eris” (as a punishment), babygirl your WHOLE relationship with Cassian has been a punishment, for what sins you ask? Being mean (as she should) and spending the High Lord’s coin.

And what makes it worse is that the narrative will always favor the Inner circle, Cassian will never pay for what he’s done the way Tamlin has (and still is) he will never even apologize because he was “holding out his hand” or whatever bs that was. (Honestly if I get proven wrong and he does pay and apologize then I may give him a chance, but I highly doubt it)

I won’t even pretend that I think Neris will be canon as much as I wish it was, even if I know that if SJM wrote it, it still would have had its problems but at least Nesta wouldn’t have ended up with the people who treated her like a criminal just because she wouldn’t kiss their ass. And on top of all, with a mate that doesn’t even have the balls to stand up for her. Holy shit.

his characters of color are often if not always silent, under or undeveloped, and hypersexualized. his response to criticism of dany as a white savior being "well slavery in the free cities is like it was in the roman empire, which was not based on race" is hard to take seriously when all of the unsullied are ambiguously brown.

i think the racism in the main series is underdiscussed in favor of people talking about glaring problems in the HBOGOT show that are not present at all in the books.

Alright, more Crisis Core, let's go! This one ended up being REALLY long (we got through two chapters), so I'm putting a read more some ways down so it doesn't kill people's dashes.

Yay, Cloud is finally here! He still clearly has the basic infantry model other than the head, but it does mean he stands in the casual almost sassy way they all do haha. In general, it's so weird but cute to see him smiling and laughing. Aw, he's not traumatized yet!

I knew what was coming, but my friend I'm playing with didn't, so it was fun to see her reaction (tho i totally still got so excited anyway haha).

This is just here bc I love them so <3 And then Tseng is also here being a third wheel. The sneaking portion that is right after this I sucked ass at. I couldn't make it five feet without being seen and tossed out, and I just had to wait until the game took pity on me and took the guards away.

Genesis, please I'm begging you just kill Hollander. I do love seeing his hair, once so bright red, getting grayer and darker, how his nice leather jacket is getting all broken, giving a sense that he's not taking care of himself and his things as much as he should be.

My sister has tried to stay more-or-less blind to what happens in Crisis Core (she knows some stuff, I know a little more) but all fics tend to use the same Loveless lines (which makes sense, of course) but I did end up reciting this quote with him bc it's one of my favorites, much to the shock of my sister.

I can't believe Zack really thinks Genesis died tho. Like, the guy has a wing, he can fly, falling is not gonna kill him. I'm still not totally clear what Genesis is trying to achieve, but I've been watching some of ButterBuns CCR videos and she's kind of given me a better sense of Genesis. He's just flailing around, trying to get something, anything, to work. He's a dying man who is desperate and doesn't even know himself exactly what he wants.

HELL YEAH! If the creators weren't cowards they would have let your models touch. Our new thing while playing is being proud of Zack for having two boyfriends and one girlfriend. The boy can get it.

As per usual, my biggest problem with this game is the writing - especially with Angeal, tbh. I guess Angeal is just like Genesis in that he's desperately trying to figure out who he is, monster or man. But every time he talks about being a monster I kind of roll my eyes. He's like an emo teenager. Last chapter I felt like it was getting a better grip and liking for him, but I'm kind of back to just being like 'what's your deal man'.

That being said, I kind of dig his weird monster form! It's a mishmash but super cool, and I love how his arms are folded in front of him. My friend and sister I don't think liked it as much and mostly made fun of it which, fair.

Mostly unrelated, but i really got myself into a big of predicament in that I'm super overpowered, which means I get through battles so quick, which also means I don't get to show off all the limit breaks and summons and such when we're playing ;-; but then I turn it to hard mode and die instantly.

I'm always a sucker for sad sunsets. I might not get Angeal or his deal, but I do at least buy that Zack cares about Angeal. It's kind of like Angeal was too set in his ways of monster vs heroes, and that a monster needs to be killed by a hero. That Zack is the only hero left to kill a monster like him, or that by doing so Zack proves he's a hero. But really all it's done is given Zack trauma and made him more uncertain than ever who he is and what he stands for.

(It kind of reminds me of near the end of Homestuck, when Dave and Dirk are talking, and Dave admits it's possible that Bro was trying to train him, but all it did was make him scared.)

I wish we got to spend more time in the game with Aerith, but at least you get the sense that they do spend more time with each other, especially with Aerith being there for Zack after this.

Wait, so are Angeal and Genesis brothers then?? I knew they were connected through Gillian, but I guess how connected never hit me. I mean, Angeal defo has her hair while Genesis has her face, but also I've been imagining and seeing them as boyfriends this whole time???

So many mixed feelings about Zack right now. The first thing is yay, new hair cut! My sister absolutely hated his bangs, so big win for her. I do like that you get to see that, as one of the last remaining Firsts, Zack has started to take on more of a leadership and mentor role for the other SOLDIERs. However, him telling them to protect their SOLDIER honor is weird when Zack doesn't know what that is either. I've felt it, but I am glad Zack himself has acknowledged that he doesn't know what that honor is or what it means. I hope we get to see Zack figure it out. I also like that Zack is kind of unmoored and uncertain now. Puts him in an interesting place for whatever's next.

Beach episode! It is FUCKING INSANE to me that Cissnei just... tells Zack that Aerith is an Ancient. Why? What was the point of that? Cissnei, you can't just say that! I guess it could be seen as her trusting Zack and demonstrating she wants to help him, but it's still so weird. It's nice Zack has been said to be hanging with the turks more, but I wish we could have gotten more of that in game. I don't think he even knows Reno and Rude's names.

BOOO TSENG SHOULD BE IN A SWIMSUIT TOO BOO!

So I know Genesis is still alive, but interesting that this is beign considered since it's Sephiroth's whole deal. Tbh, tho, I'm not sure how I feel about Tseng openly acknowledging that Mako is life. How much is that recognized in general, actually? I mean, people do fade into mako when they die... hm, much to think about.

The chase through the city was so dumb, I've had it with Hollander, how hard can it be to catch and/or kill one guy for real. That being said, I do like how cool the buster sword is, and at the end is Sephiroth :D I'm glad that Zack seems a little bitter towards Sephiroth; they're both mourning in different ways, and it's driven a rift between both of them. But at the same time, they're the closest thing they both have to someone who can understand what they're going through.

Shoutout to Zack's little fidgets :D He's still a restless little puppy, despite it all. Sephiroth and Zack's relationship is just so good and interesting, I need them to hang out more so I can see more of it.

God Genesis is so pretty. Both him and Angeal have fucked up looking wings - which adds to what they're going through - but I actually love it for Genesis. Again, what is this dude's goal? He'll probably tell you once he figured it out himself. I love the reveal that he was also at Junon this whole time. Interesting parallel to how the Firsts fought 'at Junon' altogether and now they can't be further apart.

I need to pet that dog! Is Angeal still alive?? I totally thought he died, he has to be dead, right? Just living on in his copies? Anyway, the dog should be a character who manages to live forever because I love him. Also, laughed so hard when the little Shinra robots came into the church oh my god, it's not supposed to be funny I think but it's hilarious how non-threatening they look.

Wow Kunsel, jealous much?? Also, a little creepy? Is my boyfriend stalking me? If I trusted Kunsel, at this point I'd think he was going to betray me at some point, but I trust him too much for that. It seems more like Kunsel just doesn't know how to say 'I'm worried about you and you should talk to me about what you're going through'. I love Kunsel <3

As usual, this game feels like it goes too fucking fast. It's always one thing after another, nobody's talking or explaining things. Maybe it's because you're expected to do side missions every so often? That would probably break things up a bit more. God, there's such an interesting story here! I just wish it was told better.

Also I've been playing so much of this game and only just learned you can sprint :P

YET ANOTHER long and obnoxious stream of my thoughts while watching greys anatomy for the first time (S19 bc i’m finally caught up, babey!!!! (phew))

-i hope this new class of residents isn’t as one dimensional as the last one

-DEREK’S NEPHEW ?????!!! WHICH SISTER? my money is on nancy bc i always thought she was the oldest so she would have the son old enough to be out of med school

-okay i’m too curious (for some reason i’ve always just been curious about the shepherds) so i’ve gone back to S15E21 (good shepherd) to see if i could get a better look at nancy’s wall of family photos. i see one of nancy with a young curly haired girl, kathleen with a light haired child, and two photos that are just groups of kids. my assumption is that these two are all of nancy’s kids because if she had photos of her nieces and nephews i feel like they would include their parents. both photos show two boys and two girls. it looks like the same four kids just at two different ages. the oldest (or at least the tallest) in both photos is a boy with dark hair. this may support my theory that nancy is lucas’s mother. the rest of the photos aren’t very clear. the only thing is that all of the kids look very fair and lucas is not. they also clearly wrote this episode way after they shot the scene with amelia looking at the photos so they may have not even bothered with details that were meant to be sort of irrelevant at the time.

-okay this is a very tragic story with (griffin??? griffith??) and makes her lateness and weirdness understandable but am i the only one who thinks it’s insanely bizarre to be sharing your tragic life story to your superior on your first day?

Ok lol, this is stupid as hell but I feel the need to liveblog my reaction to this book I'm reading bc 1) it's a mass-market romance novel (which I never read so it's an exciting adventure for me) and 2) actually I think that's all, just the one reason. I'm putting under a read more bc I know it's not important but I'm doing this for my own sanity.

Ok. I was "gifted" this book by virtue of being close to someone who works at a bookstore and being given advanced readers that seem like ones I'd be interested when they come in. This particular one is one of those light, cheesy popcorn books; it's wlw romance which I'm not a stranger to but when I want that kind of thing I almost exclusively read historical fiction/romance. So this is a silly one to me.

The premise is one woman works at a gym, she gets invited to her gay best friend's sister's wedding, the bride doesn't want to get married and ditches the fiance, then they get together. Idk lol, but sure. I'm gonna keep updating my thoughts as I go through this bc like I said, these kind of light romance novels are not something I ever read (except in one instance where my friend made me read one from a series she really likes and I just couldn't do it man [ok I still did for her but I didn’t enjoy it]. I'm sorry if you do enjoy them, it's fine and good but not for me).

Ok to start off with, I think the relationship between the MC and her best friend is cute- he reminds me of one of my best friends in middle/high school and their conversations bounce off each other in similar ways. But it's also really cringe bc every other line is like he's SO gay he flirts with EVERY man he sees and has a MILLION toxic exes, etc.

Anyway. He makes her come with him as his date to his sister's wedding, with the bonus implication that she can get a promotion at the gym (bc his parents own it). MC goes along with it, as her dream is to own her own gym and she wants to make herself look better, whatever.

Not even the FIRST day they get to where the wedding is going to be, she runs into the bride and is already horny, also I have to share this little snippet bc lmao???

Hot cow eyes. Okay.

Anyway, the next day comes and the wedding is going to be at one of those massive complexes where there's like a mansion people stay and the actual wedding is in a barn and the theme is like that tacky rustic kind of thing. Whatever (also sorry if you like that- again, just not my thing).

MC gets too drunk at the open bar before the rehearsal dinner and makes a fool out of herself, then runs to the bathroom only to hear crying from one of the stalls. She knocks and is like "hey are you ok? i have to check bc 'girl code'". The woman crying opens the stall and they start talking. MC tries to pull out some tissues from her purse but instead pulls out a napkin of cocktail shrimp (ok I did laugh bc I would also steal cocktail shrimp for later, I would not eat them in the bathroom though, which is what she proceeds to do).

Anyway, the woman (who is obviously the bride but MC doesn't know that yet bc she's never met her best friend's sister[???]) is like "wehhh I had to come here and things w/ my SO are not great, I wish I could leave him" and MC is like "ok, then do it". Bride is like "I can't break up with him at a wedding!"

They keep talking and later MC finds out it was actually the bride and is like oh fuck, I essentially told the bride to ditch the groom.

The bride does ditch the groom and flees the country on the honey moon alone (???) then returns and is like "everyone's mad at me oh noooo".

And that's where I've left off so far and OKAY. This woman annoys me already lmao like as someone who has called off an engagement WHY would you do it the day before the wedding?? I know this is a common trope in these kinds of things but jesus christ lmao. Yeah I wonder why everyone is pissed maybe bc you never SAID anything and people sunk tens of thousands of dollars into it and whatever. And she clearly knew like?? Idk man. When I got engaged it took a couple months before I was really honest w/ myself, but I knew I didn't want to drag it out/hurt myself and the other person and the families involved in so many ways by keeping it going until the last moment?? Stupid. Like it’s okay to realize something isn’t right for you and work through it but at least try to be considerate and responsible? Although I did really feel her when she was talking about how "nothing was wrong in the relationship, so I just kept going with it". Damn, I don't need bad romance novels to make me feel things like that lol.

ANYWAY. I will be back when I read more, if you read all this I am very sorry. I had a lot of caffeine today bc in between reading this I've had to work on last minute project stuff when I was needed and I'm super wired rn.

So despite finishing all the books I’m still a little confused about the dynamic between her cass and az. Like it’s clear that az loved/loves her, but Cass’s relationship w her isn’t as clearly stated. Him being a buffer is confusing bc it implies he’s like okay w hurting Az for Mor’s sake (I.e. massaging Mor’s feet in front of Az knowing Az is uncomfortable?). I understand cass’s intention is to shield Mor for her sake but it’s confusing that he’d do it at Azriel’s expense. Furthermore there’s that part when Mor was explaining to Feyre that she wanted to lie w one of Illyria’s greatest warriors, and she says smthn like “he can’t stand that I never looked back” and Rhys confirms that it “drives [cassian] insane.” I find it odd bc that implies cassian liked her or would’ve pursued more w her if she consented. So does this mean cassian actually liked her beyond physical attraction? I just find that the text goes back and forth with this. Like yes cassian is in a platonic space w her by the time we’re introduced to them in acomaf but the implications about their relationship in the past is just unclear. Could you help clear this up for me please it confuses me every time I read about it.

My take on the Mor / Cassian / Az situation is this:

In the Wings and Embers Bonus Chapter Cassian tells us that he was initially jealous of the shy glances Mor was sending Azriel's way. For two reasons. One was because he could tell Azriel was interested in Mor and he felt like he was having to share one of his brothers for the first time and also because Azriel was the one she "chose". So when Mor asked Cassian to bed her, he took her up on the offer. He felt guilty immediately (because he knew his actions were driven by jealousy) but still tells us that he felt attraction to Mor.

Cassian is a character who can't turn away from a challenge. So when Mor never sent interest his way again, I think it was less about him actually being in love with her (though he was obviously attracted to her) and more that she slept with him and could have cared less to have a second round. I don't think Cassian even wanted a second round because he felt so guilty the first time but his ego was bruised when she basically said, "Meh. I don't need to do that again."

Eventually that lust turned into more platonic feelings but he notes Mor was always something between a friend and lover.

We do find that since the Bonus Chapter (which occurred in ACOMAF while Nesta was still human), Cassian has moved beyond the "between friends and lovers stage" and views Mor only as a sister.

As far as him being a buffer, I think it's one of those situations where he's trying to keep things between Mor and Azriel from getting too heavy. He cared a great deal for her (in a complicated way) but if he was observant enough to realize that she wasn't receptive to Az's advances, he was playing his part to help her put up a few walls with Az. And yes, he definitely loves Az too but I think that since he could tell Mor wasn't looking to move forward with Az, he was almost protecting Az by not letting him get too hopeful that he and Mor might be something.

It's all extremely messy and I think because of how the three started off, it sort of doomed their relationships from ever being normal. Had any of them been willing to sit down and have a real conversation about it then I think it wouldn't have turned into what it was but because they ALL wanted to avoid the discussion it's been an awkward as hell situation for all three.

I hope that sounded like it made a little bit of sense! It's how I've interpretated their relationship based on the information we've been given.

no cuz i really cannot stand him especially recently 😭

like i think maybe a month ago my sister found out that her student loans were maxed out so she had to switch from one degree to a different one which ended up being good for her bc she can get the same kind of jobs but she’ll finish like 2 years earlier BUT when she told him that her loans were maxed out he started freaking out bc she has debt and he apparently didn’t know “how this is supposed to work” if she has so much debt bc he wants to buy a house at some point and that sent my sister into a spiral bc she thought he was gonna break up with her for it and she’s severely attached to this man so that literally would’ve been the end of the world but the thing that gets me!!!! is he litchrally knew that she had student debt when they started dating 😐 like BEEN had it and now all of a sudden he wants to start having a meltdown even tho the issue has not changed like…..we did this for what sir

AND THEN SHORTLY AFTER THAT he kept making up excuses to either not go to work or to come home early like one day he insisted on needing to go home and worried his boss and coworkers enough that they insisted he have my sister go pick him up bc they didn’t want him driving AND U WANNA KNOW WHAT TF HIS PROBLEM WAS⁉️ GAS‼️ HIS POOR WITTLE TUMMY HURT AND HE MADE IT SOUND LIKE HE WAS ABOUT TO DROP DEAD ANY SECOND like u rly had to have my sister go all the way there to get u bc u had to fart bitch 😐 but then another time after that like literally only 2 weeks ago he stayed home from work bc he flat out said he hates his job and doesn’t wanna work there anymore AND THEN last week he said he had a migraine but when we showed up at her apartment bc we already had plans with her he was sitting in their room on his laptop playing video games 😐 i thought ur head hurt babes⁉️ like how u gon come at my sister for having debt when u wanna fake sick ur way out of working so u can make money hoe 🤨 and when my mom brought up the fact that he made a huge deal about her debt but is constantly taking days off or leaving early bc he doesn’t like his job my sister just said “yea trust me i know but i if say anything it’ll be a whole thing 🙄” um that sounds like a red flag girlie

Since he wouldn't be there for their gift ceremony (lets just say adopted kids can also get their gifts) they would dread the day that it would come bc after Mirabel didn't get hers they were so afraid of what the family would think if the same thing happened twice and this time their father wasn't there. But he is, hiding in the walls, but he doesn't feel like that moment was the right moment to come out so he sends one of his lil rat friends to comfort his kid. Idk I just think it would be really sweet if Bruno's kid loved his rats just as much as he did. ~✴

"Huh? Oh..yeah! I'm sure you will." The visionary smiled at you, before he looked down at his own hands and sighed. "Hopefully it's nothing like mine. I wouldn't wish a gift like this on my worst enemy." He mumbled the last part, but you heard it clearly.

"¿Que? Your worst enemy?" You tilted your head in confusion. "But I don't think it's all that bad-"

"I just told a woman her fish was getting older and..it died the next day." Bruno grimly reminded you, though he couldn't stay upset with your enthusiasm for long. He didn't want you to dread getting a gift.

Tonight, Mirabel was suppose to get hers. You may have been a year younger than her and not related to the family by blood, but you were just as important as everyone else. Casita welcomed you with open arms--or doors, rather when Bruno took you in.

You were indeed drawn to the "black sheep" of the family, not being intimidated by the scary stories your friends told you about him. In reality he was just a guy with an unlucky gift. He wasn't evil and you knew that.

Considering you didn't have any family in town, and that Bruno was the only one out of Alma's triplets without kids, he decided to adopt you as his own. His sisters were surprised, but pleased to be your new tias, treating you like their own children--with love and respect.

In a way you've helped their brother come out of his shell and speak to the family more. But even then he remained shy, skittish, and self-conscious, especially with the rumors of him spreading "doom and gloom" with every breath ramping up.

"What about making a vision of what I might get?" You asked anyway, but he immediately shook his head, as if distraught by the suggestion.

"No, no..that is one thing I will never do. I don't want you to be scared if you see something you don't like."

Besides you, they didn't judge him. And in some ways they seemed like a much better family, though of course he wouldn't tell you that.

Standing up, he took you by the hand as you two made your way to the celebration, seeing the townspeople already filing into the house, laughing and dancing.

Before long there was silence as Casita rolled out the rug, and everybody watched with anticipation and hope as Mirabel finally appeared. Looking nervous, she paced across the courtyard, up the stairs where Alma waited with the magic candle in her hands.

Your mind raced with excitement and curiosity, wondering what gift she would bring to the family this time around. This was the first ceremony you got to witness, so you felt truly honored to be here tonight.

And it was a morning you dreaded for years.

Not only had Mirabel failed to get her gift, but your adopted father Bruno suddenly disappeared. He left a note in your room saying he had to go away for a while, and he begged you not to show it to anyone else. Even Casita ensured you didn't.

With absolutely no context as to what happened, you couldn't help but feel worried and sad, especially when your friends became relieved he no longer "haunted" the town. Yet even grown adults refused to speak his name, harboring the mantra of "we don't talk about Bruno" every time someone mentioned him.

"He was a diablo, [y/n]! He only wanted to trick you!"

"I bet he jinxed Mirabel's ceremony."

"With him gone, you might get your gift without worry."

Such hurtful, hateful things were spoken about him. But you couldn't get angry at them, lest they assumed you carried the same bad vibes that he did. So you stayed quiet and tried to help the family out, finding your passion and wondering about your gift for years.

It took a bit longer than usual for your ceremony to finally arrive, but it didn't make the evening preparation any easier. Only Mirabel genuinely understood your worries and talked to you, helping you calm your nerves.

Yet when she left, doubts still ran through your mind.

What if the past repeated itself? What if this was a sign the Encanto has reached its limit? What if Mirabel marked the end of the miracle-giving?

If an actual family member couldn't receive a gift...what chance does an outsider like you have at being blessed with one?

As you paced around the rickety nursery room, you heard a familiar squeaking noise from behind a portrait. And you looked to see a gray rat sneak out of the hole, eyes widening in surprise.

With a sorrowful smile, you knelt down and allowed the rat to climb onto your palm. Then you stood up to place it carefully on your shoulder. "You wanna keep me company at the ceremony? Is that it?"

It nodded, appearing to smile a bit.

'Guess he still cares..I wonder how he knew I was nervous.' Brushing away the tears in your eyes, you saw Casita drop an alarm clock at your feet, and you knew you couldn't wait any longer.

The tradition had to carry on, in hopes that it will continue on for generations to come. Everyone was waiting, and you couldn't disappoint them. Not now. Not after the last time.

But you decided that, gift or no gift, you'll find your purpose here. One way or another.

So with you little rat companion as support, you departed from your room.

"Please..bless me with a miracle. For my sake, for Mirabel's sake...for Padre's sake."

Yet as you muttered that small prayer to yourself, you had no idea that Bruno was actually there, listening to it. He could only tear up as you mentioned his name, guilt wracking every bone in his body while he watched your ceremony happen. All from behind his walls.

He wished he could just come out and give you actual reassurance and comfort. Like a father should. But he was too cowardly and resorted to sending out a rodent.

As pathetic as that seemed, it simply..wasn't the right time. Not with the reputation he has now. He didn't want to spoil your shining moment, but he was glad to know you still loved him and his rats. You didn't turn against him like everyone else.

Only when he noticed the golden light of your new door did he sigh with relief, smiling somberly as he shuffled back into the darkness.

It was up until he saw something moving inside that he thought it was just some ancient treasure that would’ve died with this ship, he examined it closer, squinting his eyes, that’s when he realized, it was a Siren. A baby one at that, usually they hatched out of boring white eggs, the royal family’s were gold, but a shiny color changing white that combated the finest of jewels? Never, this little pip was special, he could feel it.

So he brought it back home, through his “balcony window”, debating wether or not he should tell his parents. As you know, he was somewhere where he was not supposed to be, and they would throw a fit. Then again, whatever this thing was, he couldn’t just keep it to himself, something was living inside it, and he wouldn’t know if something was wrong, so he has too. When he did, it came as a suprise that his parents weren’t mad, they jsut kindof stared at the orb, inhaling the addictive scent it gave off, the three huddled around it, aizawa carefully picking the Small thing up, it was only about the size of a pumpkin, extremely easy to pick up, yet he could still feel the heartbeat of a creature inside, it just had to be one of the sirenfolk , there isn’t any other explanation. He stared at it in confusion, noticing the small cracks staring to form.

Then a little hand popped through, and scared the shit out of all of them.

The absolutely gorgeous splash above was admired by the family form their own viewing post, the blues and whites combined to make a heavenly display. You could feel the cool sprinkles of light they emmited hitting your skin, smiling at the feeling, you splayed your hands out and flailed them against the water.

Awww, that’s pretty cute.” Aizawa replied to him, holding in his emotions, as soon as he met those new eyes of yours it’s like everything else disappeared, like the world itself didn’t exist, outside of him, and his fmaily. You took his breath away, or what you could call breath, so cute and innocent, such a small thing, that brings so much joy. Your little tail swished back and forth as you stared up at them happily, taking in the features of the people you’d learned to recognize by touch. Blowing raspberries out of your lips with a stream of bubbles.

You could only imagine the horrors she's been through. But everyone had horrors these days, And you were no stranger to ghosts from the past.

hey i read through your Anakin and Jedi babies au, and got to the part about Shmi eventually having a kid and Ani being supportive and listen man i just have emotions bc i realized that her daughter would be the first freeborn child in the Skywalker family. like god knows how many generations of slavery on Tatooine, and this tiny baby is the first one born free. of course, while everyone knows this is a big deal, i feel like Anakin and Shmi are the only ones who truly Know how much of a big deal this is. tiny new baby skywalker draped in japor charms and whispered desert blessings

YEP.

I’m thinking her name is something like Amika or Amyas? I’ve come to the conclusion that she is the result of Shmi and Jango getting into a relationship, but not actually planned. Anakin absolutely offers to fight Jango for Shmi, and she scolds him for it despite being a solid ten years younger than him.

Jango and Shmi do get married, after a bit more fumbling to make sure this is what they really want.

I imagine that the disaster lineage moves back to the Temple a year or so after that, when Ben is eleven or twelve. The Force just said it was a good time, and Mandalore seemed to be in good shape, etc. There’s a lot of sidelong glances and questioning looks because Soka and Ben still insistently refer to Anakin as buir (or Skyguy, on Soka’s part), and there’s a variety of conspiracy theories, and Ben acts Very Grown Up for a child his age, etc. They actually tell the council the full truth and cause a number of headaches. Mace isn’t amused. There’s rumors everywhere about Obi-Wan and Ben being related but nobody has the guts to ask after the first Scary Skywalker Smile.

What’s really relevant, though, is what that move does to relations between Mandalore, the Jedi, and the Republic.

"Okay, so if the Jedi Order does any negotiation with Mandalore, it has to be through Skywalker." "Why?" "The Mand'alor is his brother-in-law and they met when Fett was fifteen; I've seen Skywalker give this man a noogie and suffer zero consequences for it."

Like, please understand: Jango becomes Mand’alor in his late-twenties even while Jaster is alive, a few years after the Shmi thing, just because he’s Very Good At It. But also, he’s Anakin’s brother-in-law. Anakin, who knows that Shmi can take care of herself but is very protective anyway, and made a hobby of kicking Jango’s ass when he was younger, and has always had Weird Vibes around Jango, and at least once made veiled comments about how he didn’t trust Jango’s ability to be a father.

Jango, of course, doesn’t know that this is because Anakin judges him on the fact that he had three million clone sons that he didn’t give a shit about in a future that won’t happen.

So Jango is actually very concerned with maintaining Anakin’s good favor, something that he feasibly had for a few years but is struggling to hold onto after getting with Shmi and having a kid.

If it were almost anyone else, Anakin probably would have been very “she can make her own choices” about Shmi, but it’s Jango Fett and Anakin has concerns.

A few years later, let’s say Ben is fifteen, the Temple gets notified that the king of Mandalore is coming. The Mand’alor is going to be here, and hasn’t told anyone why. He’s bringing his spouse and several other people, but not a full guard or anything for a formal visit with the Republic.

The ship lands. The Mand’alor exits in full armor. There’s a woman next to him, a small brunette with a toddler in her arms, not wearing much armor, but she has enough to make it clear that she is Mandalorian. Vambraces, greaves, a gorget,  and there’s a sigil on it somewhere declaring her the the spouse of the Mand’alor.

The Jedi Council is mostly polite. Mostly hesitant. Confused. Diplomatic. Dooku is there, and asks, “Did anyone inform Master Skywalker of our visitors?”

“He recently returned from a mission and is likely asleep,” someone tells him.

The Queen of Mandalore sighs. “Oh dear.”

This is when a recently-woken Anakin Skywalker, age thirty-seven but looking like he stalled out on aging in his late twenties, strides out into the hangar and yells, “Shmi!”

The queen gives her toddler to her husband and sprints to Master Skywalker, throwing herself into his arms and letting him spin her around with a laugh. “Ori’vod!”

Dooku’s smile could be, at a stretch, described as ‘shit-eating.’ He turns to the councilors. “You didn’t forget that Skywalker has a sister, did you?”

They didn’t, but they clearly hadn’t expected it to matter.

“Let me see my niece,” Skywalker says, with a grin out of a holo film. “Fett, gimme.”

“Hi, hello, it’s good to see you’re alive too,” the Mand’alor grumbles. “Oh, I’m doing well, and--”

“Yeah, yeah, su cuy'gar and all, let me see my niece.”

The Mand’alor, one of the most influentially dangerous men in the galaxy, sighs and hands over the toddler to Master Skywalker, who immediately starts cooing over the little girl and otherwise making it clear just why he ends up in the creche so often.

“Master Skywalker,” Dooku calls over, as the only person to have encountered the Mando contingent often enough to get away with saying something right now. “You knew they were coming?”

“Nope! Felt ‘em arrive,” Skywalker cheerily replies. “Did someone tell my kids? Somebody tell my kids, they’ll want to see Shmi.”

“Has Ben gotten any taller?” the woman stage-whispers, and Skywalker grins at her.

“Not as much as he’d hoped.”

The Skywalker teenagers in question come sprinting out with less decorum than even their father had. Ben at least tries to slow down and greet the contingent politely, but Soka just barrels into Shmi like there’s nothing in the galaxy that could stop her. There’s laughter and hugs, and Skywalker hands the toddler off to his daughter and steps back to watch his family interact.

(They get justification for the visit eventually: the child is terrifyingly force-sensitive, and the queen has only just managed to convince Fett to let them take her to the Temple. The Council knows just how tenuous their guardianship here is, in that they’re sure this child would have been kept away from them if not for Skywalker’s presence here. Mandalore’s warriors and Tatooine’s slaves hold family to be of utmost importance. Skywalker is the only reason this is happening.)

“You know, I was getting respect from your High Council before you showed up,” Fett grouses, now without his helmet. “I’m the Mand’alor, the first in centuries to step foot here without war in mind. This moment should be historic. People should respect and fear my presence.”

Skywalker looks at him, pitying.

"Fett, I don't care that you're Mand'alor. I've known you since you were fifteen, and you're married to my little sister. You know you don't scare me."

“Anakin--”

“Also you’re short.”

“Oh, get kriffed, you asshole.”

okay so i actually wanted to talk about how edwina, kate and anthony are in a love triangle but also not, like i really believe that they, edwina and kate, never actually fight for anthony but he is one of the factors that made their relationship to take a turning point. this is going to be long so

i feel like this analysis need pics to show another element that i think the writers/creators included very subtly: mirrors

so, the series begins with kate and edwina sharing this little secret of her riding in the morning without lady danbury (tho at the end of ep1 knows) and mary knowing, showing us that they got each others back when edwina pretends not knowing where she is and then helping kate to notice that she had to hide a stain on her dress. the thing is that also in the 1st ep you found out kate is hiding the secret of the real reason they actually come back to london. i believe that kate convinced them to come back(edwina must have been easier than mary bc of her falling out and being shunned by her own family) with the excuse at first of both of them finding a match, even tho kate knew she would never look for one bc first she wants to secure her family and second bc she doesn’t think she is good enough to get a match within the ton(speculation: i believe she must have talk to the sheffields when her father died and asked whether she could participate in the marriage mart so as to help her family with their helped and they must have been so fucking awful towards her and highlighted the fact they are not related and that’s when they gave her their conditions which would only apply for edwina). 

anyways, since i first watch the 1st ep i was always impressed on how smoothly edwina managed anthony’s questionnaire, and then when i rewatched it and see kate remarking how she spent 8 years teaching her everything it kinda checks out, but also, i acknowledge edwina has a backbone too that made her being in that way too in that scene, and in later scenes like in ep3 when talking with anthony about how their relationship is going to be after marriage and obviously in ep 6. however, going back to how kate has prepared her and how determined she is about just edwina finding a match in this ep we have this scene before the first ball which kinda settles the whole dynamic that happens throughout the season

in that moment alone she allows herself to imagine all of the what ifs and what she wants, which in the next minute all of those things are thrown away after seeing edwina, bringing her back to in track to fulfill her objectives, and also in this shot we see them both in the mirror, which brings me to my theory that the mirrors this season show us how kate and edwina are trapped in what they believe they must do bc of the roles they have been put in society which makes them kinda blurry in their reflection or faceless, however whenever one of them allows themselves to say ‘hey i think i want this’ or they allow to be vulnerable they are clearly reflected

in ep 2 after their meeting with the queen and this shot right here, i think show us what i want to say 

in that reflection we can see them both again one facing the mirror and the other away from it, there’s no real recognition on who they are really, even tho edwina it’s facing the mirror her face is blurry (like in the first shot). however when edwina starts talking to mary and lady danbury and kate’s hears anthony, we see their reflections clear

in ep 3 after the no proposal we can see them both  and this is when edwina’s facade of being the perfect diamond falls for a moment and berates herself for not being better which makes her more image clear compared to kate that she keeps on being her sister’s keeper through out the exchange

this is fully emphasized  when edwina fully breaks down and kate almost completely disappears from the mirror, and putting edwina in the center of it all

after the proposal and in ep 5 kate completely leaves the frame of the reflection in the mirror instead in ep 5 and 6 edwina is the only present on the reflections 

however, we have times were edwina is blurry and then not, i think this is bc i believe edwina has decided to fully embrace her role and be happy about it, she got the proposal, she is getting married everything is going according to the plan, this is what she believes she wants, there’s no more doubts whether she is good enough. 

then we get ep 6 (and due to image constraints that allow 10 pics i wont include this one) we got kate’s reflection during the haldi ceremony when she sees herself and thinks on the what ifs and what she wanted but couldn’t be anymore, and it’s picture clear (sorry i got emo)

later before the wedding we got this shot 

 they are back together in the frame blurry again, edwina noticing something it’s not entirely right, and well this whole episode has the mirrors symbology that besides of my point of the people reflected on it being sure about their wants their needs and knowing who they are, they are also showing when the characters get vulnerable, and when the whole true is out  both of them are clear in the mirror

and i think the most powerful ones of this shots it’s when edwina tells kate how she felt about this whole mess she and anthony created and tells her she no longers have a power on her

and the other is the one in ep7 when it’s just kate just kinda embracing everything that has went down, with obviously some regrets but she finally did what she wanted so she sees herself clear in the mirror.

anyways idk if this makes sense, all i know it’s that people had criticized so much how edwina act about the whole thing, or how they ruined her character when i truly believe they gave both of them, kate and edwina an important arc of finding themselves in this society they tried to trap them into what is called duty, plus the responsibility that kate decided to take on after her father’s death, creating this estrangement between them, and yes i think they were estranged before this whole business of marriage bc kate like anthony pushed mary and edwina into a place where all they should care about it’s themselves and not about her, and this whole mess of “love triangle” end up helping them to build their relationship again. so yeah bye
