The fact that a huge amount of information on platforms like tumblr, instagram, and apparently also tik tok is now shared as screenshots of text instead of—you know—the text itself, which is easier to read and can also be scanned by screen readers, makes me want to burn down the internet.

Tumblr is a platform where you can actually make text posts! There's no character limit! Just. Put. The text. There!

Instagram is for photos, not fucking essays!

Tik tok is a video platform, so why the fuck are people sharing screenshots of Tumblr posts (without even linking to he original post, naturally) set to music and calling those videos?

I don't understand why so many people look at extremely limited (as in they have a very specific function and are not intended to be used in any other way) apps like instagram and tik tok, and go "Ah, I will now use this platform to convey information in the most convoluted, least accessible way possible."

Just?? Use a platform that's actually friendly to whatever kind of info you're trying to convey???

I'm sure there are all kinds of factors involved, especially when people are so driven by views/likes/whatever on one platform, but this trend has made the internet so much less user-friendly and accessible. It's like trying to eat soup with a butterknife, while also taking away other people's spoons and making them use butterknives as well.

I headcanon he got it a bit before nibelheim, at around 16! Since he worked a job involving a lot of exercise, wearing a binder just wouldn't be practical or safe hehe. I imagine him as having top surgery, but not being on testosterone until after he's in midgar (or maybe he was on testosterone, but it's not like him and zack could have access to that anymore while he's in a coma/while theyre on the run) Him getting top surgery in the labs is really funny though JDHGFHDJ, he wakes up all disoriented and he's like. I don’t think people are getting dumber, but I do think we have too much access to each other’s stupidity.

Pre-internet, and even just pre-social media, someone would have a dumb idea and maybe it would permeate one friend group and there would be consequences and that would be that.

Now, one person has a dumb idea and posts it to social media and some very small percentage of the population runs with it and shares it and other people share it because they think it’s dumb and others see that and latch on… and even though the people doing it are a very small percentage of the overall population, it’s still a fucking lot of people. And all of this happens before there are consequences or maybe just before those consequences get shared to social media or maybe the consequences never get shared at all.

Too much access to stupidity makes the stupidity spread.

if you’re gonna use images containing text on your site please, please, please include alt text… honestly, you should include alt text regardless but it’s especially important in this case imo.

keep contrast in mind when picking font colors and background colors. make sure your fonts are readable. avoid font sizes that are too small.

and if you’re gonna include flashing/blinking graphics or eyestrain in general, please use some sort of window alert() that people have to go through before they enter the site… or maybe have your index/first page list the potentially dangerous content (with none of the graphics in question on it)… basically something that gives people a chance to stop and leave before they’re exposed to anything. 100% doesn’t count if the warning is on the same page and is visible at the same time as the graphics/eyestrain/flashing lights.

aesthetically pleasing and accessible should not be mutually exclusive. make your website as aesthetically pleasing as you want, but keep accessibility in mind as you do.
