Something adjusted the index while I was asleep.

The pages are out of order—not missing, just... reordered by a logic I don’t remember inventing.

One margin now loops endlessly if read too fast.

Another bleeds faint citrus-scented ink from between the lines.

It smells like mischief and old velvet.

Near the soup shelf, I found a pawprint made of starlight residue.

Only visible at an angle. Only if I wasn't quite looking at it.

Next to it: a smooth stone that wasn’t mine. It hums when held near the Codex.

Also: the soup stirred itself.

No visible cause.

It drew a spiral, then a question mark, then a tiny cat face.

I am being observed.

It is not unkind.

But it knows more about this Codex than I do.

Or perhaps it remembers the earlier versions I’ve forgotten.

I have not tried to speak to it.

Not directly.

I think it prefers silence as language.

From the Imperial Codex: “On the Class Xochitl”

“Unlike raw terraformation, the Xochitl Protocol is a ritual harmony with the planet’s living rational lattice — the Telluric Pulse Network (TPN).”

Activation requires:

A Grand Priest or High Nahuatl in physical presence

Codex beacons (tēōmachinātl) at nodal points (Tonalcoatl)

The Song of Connection, channeled via sacred monoliths

Once initiated, the planet is marked as Tlāltikpak Nexikayotl (Consecrated Earth), and the Sacred Occupation begins.

Temples, cities, and extraction zones were constructed in rhythm with the planet’s breath.

Used one of these in a sewer dungeon for some new players. They had a good laugh at its name, then abject terror as its head lunged and took a bite out of our Kobold Wizard (played by the one and only @thisisnalkan). The combat encounter was fairly brief though, as our Cleric managed to de-escalate the encounter by offering the Chud a meal voucher for a restaurant run by former president Richard Nixon (long story). Overall a very fun encounter for the first session of our West Marches.

[C.H.U.D. is a movie I was familiar with as a punchline long before I actually saw it, and it’s a pretty good, grimy little monster film. The titular chuds could easily be played by ghouls or morlocks in Pathfinder, but again, when has redundancy stopped RPG monster designers? And neither ghouls or morlocks have a chud’s great extendible neck]

Chud This shambling creature appears vaguely humanoid, with greenish skin and luminous eyes. Its teeth are sharp and its hands twisted into claws. It wears little more than scraps of clothing, and its muscles visibly churn under its skin.

Chuds, or “cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers”, are mutated subterranean creatures. The first chuds were created by exposure to mutagenic chemicals dumped in the sewers by uncaring governments without regard for the homeless humans taking shelter there. Chuds breed true and spread like a contagion through their diseased bites. They compete with other underground monsters associated with caves and sewers, like morlocks and ghouls.

A chud is a carnivore with a preference for the flesh of humanoid creatures, although they will eat rats and garbage if they must. Bright lights hurt their eyes, so they stalk aboveground only at night. In combat, chuds are straightforward ambush predators. Their elastic bodies are capable of contorting and stretching in bizarre ways, and they can extend their necks and limbs to extreme lengths to strike at faraway enemies. Chuds are cooperative hunters, and use pack tactics like flanking and aiding another when working in groups.

Chuds range in size as humans do, but their slumped postures and elongated arms give them odd proportions.

Felassan's Role in Psychological Warfare

Some time ago, I wrote about Elgar’nan’s terrifying display of power - the act of erasing emotion from existence, burning it from the minds of every living being, and letting its spirits die out completely. 

This is the scale of the enemy Solas and Felassan were up against. When your enemy can unmake feeling, extinguish spiritual presence, and reshape the metaphysical architecture of your people, what choices remain? What kind of war do you wage against opponents like these? 

What Elgar’nan did was spiritual genocide - brute force on every level. From the war on the Titans, to the destruction of spirit communities, to the devastation he continues to unleash in Veilguard, Elgar’nan has ruled through annihilation. (I feel real sympathy for Mythal trying to placate this being.) And what’s more terrifying: he’s only one of the Evanuris.

This reframes Solas’s rebellion. It wasn’t just a fight against political oppression - it was a fight to also preserve the emotional and spiritual reality of the world. 

In that context, it’s no surprise the rebellion turned to psychological warfare. And this is where Felassan emerges not merely as a soldier or lieutenant, but as an architect - just as good at it as Solas. 

The Dread Wolf: A Weapon, Not a Hero 

The Felassan codices confirm their psychological campaign was deliberate and coordinated. The Dread Wolf myth was used as a weapon to frighten the Evanuris, inspire hope, and manipulate belief.

“Yes, we have to keep playing up the Dread Wolf. The people need someone they believe is strong enough to protect them… Don’t worry. I promise to mock you viciously if you ever start believing those stories yourself.”  - Felassan

This wasn’t about heroism - it was about mass mobilization under existential threat. These codices suggest Felassan played a far more integral and strategic role in the rebellion than often acknowledged. He wasn’t just Solas’ lieutenant; he was a partner in both ideology and execution. 

This was myth as infrastructure. Felassan understood that when your enemies are divine, survival requires more than tactics. You need narrative power - a symbol strong enough to counter fear. The Dread Wolf, once hurled at Solas with contempt, became that symbol. And Felassan and Solas wielded it with precision. 

It’s easy to see Felassan as a wry commentator or moral counterweight to Solas, espeically when taken in hindsight of his death. And yes, Felassan is those things - but the codices reveal he's just as much the strategist as Solas, someone who helped forge the emotional weaponry of the rebellion. He didn’t just believe in the cause - he helped shape how it would be remembered. 

This is especially clear in two parts of that codex: 

“Yes, we have to keep playing up the Dread Wolf.”  “Don’t worry…” 

It reads like a continuation of an ongoing conversation. The “Yes” implies Solas has raised a concern - maybe about the direction of the symbol, perhaps discomfort with what it’s making him become - who knows, but we have missed out on some initial conversation here because Felassan’s response is affirmation and reassurance. Yes, we have to do this Solas, it’s necessary for the rebellion. But don’t worry, I’ll pull you back if it starts to consume you. That casual “Don’t worry” does heavy emotional lifting. It acknowledges the toll already settling on Solas, and Felassan, aware of it, offers the only balm he can: I won't let it consume you. 

In this way, the codex isn’t just a strategic log - it’s a record of emotional triage. As the war escalates, the emotional and ethical toll begins to shift. Felassan becomes not just a planner but a witness to a conflict spiraling beyond anyone’s control. 

“The bad news is that Andruil and Ghilan’nain made a big show of putting down a protest… Andruil left a crater where the town stood, and Ghilan’nain is using the people taken prisoner as fodder for her experiments.” 

What follows next in that codex is the line that piqued my curiosity: 

“This isn’t your fault, but still, this is exactly what I was worried about.” 

That line marks a quiet, painful evolution in Felassan’s thinking. The emotional core is regret. 

He isn’t blaming Solas - he’s acknowledging that the symbol they created is now drawing divine wrath. Each act of rebellion is met with devastation so complete, even victory feels like loss. Yet “this isn’t your fault” stands out. He knows Solas is carrying the rebellion’s cost - perhaps already retreating inward, calcifying under the burden of the costs of war. 

But “this is exactly what I was worried about,” when read alongside the other codices, suggests something deeper: guilt. Felassan sees Solas changing. The man he once teased to not take the myth too seriously is now becoming it. The line between mask and self is blurring. And Felassan, who once promised to pull him back, may no longer be able to. Part of that guilt, perhaps, comes from the knowledge that he encouraged it - that he helped craft the myth, pushed Solas to wear it, and now must watch as it consumes his friend. 

In a war like this, no one remains untouched. The Evanuris long ago abandoned morality - experimenting on the living, erasing emotions, killing without hesitation. But the rebels, too, are marked by compromise: truths sacrificed, lies forged for survival. Felassan isn’t innocent. Neither is Solas. 

Felassan helped build the myth. Solas bore it. Now, both are shaped by it in turn. 

The tragedy is that when you wield psychological warfare, there's always the risk that the story you create to move others will begin to reshape you. That’s what Felassan feared. That’s what began to happen.

And when Mythal is murdered - well, we know what happens from there.

Youson week 2025: Day 4 Triumphant

(Challenge by @mxboxlocks)

No fan fic for today, but what you do get is my take on Tri!Wilson as well as Tri!Wixen. Also, just colored sketches instead of clean lineart. Heres also info about them!

(This is sorta based on two roleswap AUs, tri!Wilson takes Maxwell's spot while Wixen takes Charlie's, and tri!Wixen taking Maxwell's spot while Wilson takes Charlie's)

Info about my headcannons and concepts bellow the cut! (Since they are REALLY long)

Triumphant!Wilson

-Generally more of a goofy villian, but when he decides to actually try, he gets VERY intimidating

-Wixen is the jester/assistant to his king/mad scientist

-In adventure mode, Wixen goes behind Wilson's back to basically make up a story of how the Constant could be good if it wasn't ran by a madman, ans how they only joined up with him to save their soul. They support the player throughout so they could get to the throne

-Once they do, they see a similar scene as woth Maxwell, though instead Wilson and Wixen both explain themself, Wixen knowing Wilson would never allow them to take the throne, so they helped the player through the adventure mode

-very quickly after the player gets trapped on the throne, Wixen takes their place, content knowing that no one else will be hurt by them

'Triumphant'!Wixen

-In a LOT more rough state than other triumphan tcharacters, as Maxwell said:"They will show you terrible, beautiful things, it's best not to fight it" but what if fighting back is in your very nature?

-Entire body (except face) has been turned into a black goo, capable of shap, shifting but is rarely consistant

-Laughs instead of crying, They wouldn't allow her to cry

-Can't remove the mask! Masks are actually usually a form of self-expression for Wixen, allowin ghim to show off different parts of himself, but with this They force a more traditional meaning on them

-Wixen carved the body themself from living logs so he could have a more consistant form, moves very creepily like a puppet

-Destroyed her version of the codex umbra (the umbratic manuscripts) when getting into the constant from hurt and rage

-To punish them for this, They pulled a Wickerbottom and forced a memory of every single page and word into her mind

-Can craft pieces of the umbratic manuscripts because of that (this is also how you refuel their masks)

-Unique healing animation akin to Fuelweaver

-Uses both lunar and shadow magic, both parts of Them hate him

-instead of summoning things with her sanity like Maxwell, he summons them with his blood

-Different mask=different summon

-Through the years of torture, has been stripped down to his most basic element (chaos)

-They refuse to let Wixen and Wilson reunite

-While the constant itself is less harsh under Wixen's reign, their challenges are much harder tha Maxwell's

I’ve been away from home for so long. I’ve been trekking throughout Hammerfell. The climate is so vastly different from home, but it has its charms and the clothing there is actually comfortable. Breathable.

3. Coldfire Codex

A small banekin popped out of a portal and looked around the room. It spotted the person his mistress summoned him to meet and walked up to him. An old Imperial Battlemage. “You! My Mistress needs your assistance at once!”

4. Mother of Hunters

“Adelina! The food’s ready.” A tall Nord man called out to the lone hunter sitting on a log. She turned her head, her long dark locks flowing around her. Her dark eyes pierced through anyone that dared to look into them.

Sifkni’s feet carried her far from her home. Far from everything she’d known. Everything she loved. It didn’t matter anymore. Her heart dropped. What was she going to do now? Everyone was gone.

6. Hunt of the Blood Moons

Her dark red hair whipped around as she ran through the forest. The ground was soft from the recent rainfall. She had to pay attention to the roots and brush below foot as she continued. The fog didn’t help.

Smoke infiltrated her nostrils. Sifkni turned her head. Heavy black smoke rose from the skyline. From Whiterun. Jorrvaskr?

The dark skinned Bosmer wandered the market stalls in the middle of Riften’s town circle. She perused the wares at each stall, wondering where each of the items were originally procured from. Sure, she could ask where they got the items from but there was no fun in that. She brushed her orange hair behind her ear. 

9. Fury of a Tundra Wolf

Thea adjusted the pack on her back. She stared at the looming castle before her. It’d been a long time since she last saw the Palace of the Kings. At least 15 years, when she left home to join the Companions.

Sharksmouth Fort III: The Demon's Fury Excerpt from a Grey Warden Log: As the seer predicted, the eruption of Sharksmouth angered a demon. The demon held us responsible for disturbing its mountain. It tore into our fort full of flame and fury, a horror beyond anything we've fought before. The seer said she could bind the demon to our fort, so it wouldn't endanger others. I intended to stay with her to see the binding spell through, but before I could move, Grey shoved me out and barred the door. He said that protecting the world from a demon was "a job for a Qunari." Then he said something like: "Toh kata, itwafesh." The demon, which we've started calling: "The Fury of Sharksmouth," is now sealed in. Grey and the seer both gave their lives to hold it back. If they hadn't, it might've rampaged all over the coast. With our fort lost to the demon and no darkspawn nearby, we're leaving the area. I've sent word to Weisshaupt: if the Qunari have any more like Grey, the Wardens should be honored to take them. I also reached out to the Qunari, paid my respects, and asked about the Qunlat phrase that Grey said before he died. The Qunari told me that the best translation would be: "In death, sacrifice." Guess you were listening after all, Grey. Added by Davrin: Sounds like a damn good Warden to me.
