its a coffee shop AU where, instead of going into the Wayne family, Dick entered the system, became a foster kid, eventually got adopted as a late teen, and then ended up running a coffee shop. Shenanigans happen (or will, when I write them) and he will still end up meeting the fam and finding family (bc i killed his twice over bc i love my angst) :D

i'm stuck after chapter 1, bc i'm not sure how fully I'll commit to the NoCapes AU part (he's met Jason as RedHood after all). that, and i think i need more of a plot? maybe? i dunno?

anyway, its a fun idea. :D

What: Leveling Service

Why: Sent 2 dragons to be leveled. The 2nd time I asked for them back, I was blocked and my dragons were exalted.

When: Sent dragons 8/18. Was pinged to thread ~2 weeks later mentioning delay. Asked for dragons back ~9/18. Asked again for dragons back 10/22.

Explain: Unfortunately, they deleted the thread and I did not take screenshots as I didn't believe they would go to this extent, so all I have are my words and images of the CR, and links to the now exalted dragons.

They were doing a discount during the first week of posting the thread; 150g for 1-25 in 7-10 days. I had seen them around before and they seemed friendly enough, so I did not ask for collateral. My mistake, I know. Roughly 2 weeks passed and they pinged me and the other user saying that because of hurricanes their internet had been having issues. Since at school I can access everything except the coli, it seems plausible for them to still be active but unable to train. A month after sending them over, I asked for the dragons back, since that one ping had been the only communication.

They replied saying that they would get around to it soon, and that the dragons would be leveled by the end of the week. I said okay, please keep me updated. They did not. And the dragons' levels did not change.

So on 10/22, after seeing them post in another thread, I decided to ask again for my dragons back. They did not respond. I found out I was blocked when I saw them post again and clicked on their profile to get a link back to the leveling service.

Went through my CRs and sure enough, the dragons are now exalted to the stormcatcher (their deity).

Grand Magic

I love magic systems that also have a place for Grand Magic;

A world where there are wizards who cast spells all the time but then there are spells so rare and powerful that wizards consider them literally arcane; unknown, difficult to even conceptualize, and either eschewed as impossible or taken on as a life’s work.

Spells that some wizards try their whole lives to cast for the casting’s own sake.

Grand Magic where you are a druid doing your best and then in your hour of need a fairy queen or even the world itself draws you underground and with its aid the army of giants are healed of their flesh and made into trees, and you emerge changed for the experience of Being One Who Has Cast Grand Magic.

It is too easy in dealing with magic systems - especially in RPGs - to lose sight of the wonder of it. How do you maintain that feeling of majesty when it’s literally just a tool in your character’s toolbox; something they can do 2 + WisMod times per day?

Having a kind of spell that will only be cast once in a whole-ass D&D campaign is a good way of having magic that feels magical. Something that gives the players not a mere power fantasy but a feeling like their character touched something mortals wouldn’t normally have gotten a chance to touch.

The problem solved by the presence of a Grand Magic concept is less prevalent in fiction than in games, but I appreciate it just as much there.

I enjoy the mystical coffeeshoppe where magic is just part of life and kind of sneaks in and adds spice to things, sure. But I also love when magic is awesome - literally inspires awe - and for me that requires a little more than “does more dice of damage to the target.”
