*taps microphone* is this thing on? Okay…
🎤 THIS IS A REMINDER THAT ALL OF THE ROBINS ARE SMART, GENIUSES IN FACT. THEY ARE IN A FAMILY OF DETECTIVES. THATS LIKE THEIR WHOLE THING. ALL OF THE ROBINS (AND THE REST OF THE BATFAM TOO) ARE CLEVER, STRATEGIC, AND CAPABLE, NOT JUST TIM. (No hate to my boy Tim, though. I love Tim.) YES, EVEN THAT ONE. Thank you. 🎤

Read some actual comics, Kyle.

Superman is an incredibly kind and tender character. (If he’s not being written that way, then he’s not being written well.) He inspires hope not just through his heroics, but also through his kindness toward other people. That’s his thing. Don’t you DARE call tenderness a “weakness.” Get your toxic masculinity the hell away from me and go read a badly written Batman comic if you want a “tough” male character.

further proof ff.n is dying the grimest of deaths
a few years ago it got infested by bots, and unlike ao3, did nothing to root them out. it's... a bit of a problem.
Is anyone else getting messages on ff.net from random people who are like, "I love your story and would love to draw it/your story is one of my favs, follow me on Insta!" This has happened 3 times now from 3 different people.
#yes. so much this.#i'm so very much done with ff.n#i'm also very much contemplating taking my works down from there#what else is a girl to do?#in this economy and in front of my salad?#(i have a moot who trolled them back by engaging and going full on bit and telling them they'd love to have fanfart for free)#(as one does)#it do be like that

I genuinely don't think all the Batkids should be calling Bruce dad all the time so here the only instances I think would be valid and in character for them to call him dad:
Dick Grayson: Dick had a father who he loved dearly so I do not think he would call Bruce dad so freely (Bruce very much respects him for that). It's only later on when he matures does Dick expand what "dad" can mean to him to include both Bruce and his father. After that, he saves dad for big moments between them, when he wants Bruce to really retain something and know he means it 100%. He'll never say Bruce is his "dad" when with around others, but he doesn't correct any assumption about it. Too complicated.
Barbara Gordon: Never. She respects him as her first mentor. But does think she is smarter than him. And is probably right about that.
Jason Todd: Jason has mixed feelings about Willis (because the writers keep changing his background. Anyways). When he's younger, he very much antagonizes Willis and it makes him lean on Bruce even more as a father. Back then, Jason would sometimes hesitantly call Bruce "dad." However, after the Lazarus pit and his return to Gotham, every time he uses "dad," its sarcastic and meant to hurt. When he starts becoming an ally again, he still uses it sarcastically as he pleases. He will only ever use it seriously in extreme life or death situations, and even then, it may still be somewhat sarcastic. Other than that, he may on occasion use it during the rare moments when he is trying to make sure Damian does not take Bruce's criticism so hard. Along the lines of "don't worry. Dad is just an asshole."
Tim Drake: Tim prefers to think of himself as an unpaid intern and doesn't think he will EVER find a reason to call Bruce dad. The word holds too much weight after what happened during his Robin run and to Jack. But he does know that Bruce sees him as a son of sorts, and he doesn't mind it. He does know he sees Bruce as family, and Bruce does fill a lot of the fatherly roles in his life. When he's younger, he will refer to Bruce as his mentor. But as he gets older, much like Dick, he expands what "dad" can mean to him and will refer to Bruce as his sort-of father around others. But never to Bruce's face.
Stephanie Brown: Probably never. Her dad sucked. But Bruce sucked in a very different way, one that arguably hurt more, especially with what happened during her start of vigilanting and Robin run. What happens then taints her view of him forever. While their relationship does heal and move on from that, at best he is the okay boss she had during her part time job turned reluctant acquaintance. She didnt need a dad then, and she doesnt need one now. She can take of herself, and if she cant, Babs and Cass have her back. If she does call him dad, it's EXTREMELY sarcastically. But she knows it won't be as impactful as when Jason does it sarcastically, so she probably won't.
Cassandra Cain: She sees Bruce first and foremost as Batman, and that's the side of him that she likes and admires best. It doesn't completely register to her that over the course of their relationship, he is becoming a father-figure to her, especially when her only reference for fatherhood is David Cain. Bruce is more hands-off with her (maybe because of what happened with Stephanie, maybe because he doesn't really know how to handle a daughter), but he offers support when he can and respects her boundaries more than he has any of the others. It's only when someone else points it out first that Cass has to do some introspection about who Bruce is to her and how she sees him. It's a slow development but she does eventually call Bruce dad occasionally. And when she does it's very much welcomed.
Damian: Father, always. Dad...eh. Damian grew up calling him fahter, and he isn't going to change for sentimentality or cultural difference or whatever else you'd like to call it. But while he doesn't call him dad, throughout the course of their relationship the weight of the word father gains more importance. He's the only one that calls Bruce that, and in turn, Bruce only responds to "father" when it's Damian. It becomes their word and that makes it more special than dad ever could be.
Duke Thomas: Never. Ever. He has a dad he is waiting for and doesnt need another. He does accept that Bruce is a mentor of sorts, but he has more clarity on how Bruce impacts his life and how many issues this guy has. He's the student that will be there when Bruce needs taking care of, and Bruce does act as a role model to him, but he will never call Bruce dad.
Jarro: Constantly. All the time.

Fic Writers Game
Tagged by @fidothefinch ! I'm getting back into writing after a major case of burnout so this was fun!
Fic Writer Ask Game:
how many works on ao3? 70
total ao3 wordcount? 647,949
Top 5 fics by kudos? As of 1st May 2025
TheBruceWayne of insta (7,738)
Unknown Origins (2,673)
Siren Call (1,180)
Buckle Up (its gonna be a bumpy ride) (883)
Make A Splash (770)
What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly Nightwing-centric, but Batfam/Batman to generalise it.
Do you respond to comments?
My inbox might bank up on me, but yes. The answer is always yes. I have an endnote to all my fics telling people what to do if they don't want a reply, though.
Angstiest Ending?
Oh. Heh. I have a few. The one that instantly comes to mind is Nightwing's Final Gift (tissue warning on that). If you want *dark* then its gotta be my death loop series aka Deja Vu (i still have a story -- or two -- to write for that, so take that warning for what you will) (but its definitely *dark*).
Fic with the happiest ending?
Fluffiest ending definitely goes to TheBruceWayne of insta by a large margin.
Do you get hate?
Not generally. I did get one comment that got deleted, and there's the occasional comment that I have to think how to answer... but not generally.
Do you write smut?
Nope. Never will. It's not in my wheelhouse, so to speak.
Do you write crossovers?
Uh, kind of? I do regularly crossover from Batman into his kids comics, and from there into the Titans. And I'm writing a fic rn which will use the JLA... but that's still solidly within the DC fandom.
Ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
None that I know of.
Have you ever cowritten a fic?
No, can't say I ever have.
All-time favorite ship?
oh, that's a funny question. I'm proudly ship-neutral, in that I honestly don't care about ships. You do you and all that, but I seriously doubt I will ever write a ship fic, or read a ship fic. Like I said, ship-neutral.
WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have a long standing fic, CIRCLE II: Between The Cracks. I know what needs to happen, and I can see it my head... but it requires a major action scene, and I'm just ugh. I'll write anything instead of action, lol. As you can see because this has been sitting in my WIP folder for something like ten years lol. (And I have written lots of words to avoid writing that scene, lol.)
Writing Strengths?
Angst, emotional whump, character introspection. Basically emotional scenes, which i think is funny, considering i always find it hard to know what I'm feeling at any particular moment.
Writing Weaknesses?
Action. I loathe action scenes. In fact, it's caused some powerful writing blocks on more than a few fics.
Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?
Love it! Sadly, I only speak English fluently, and I only remember a smattering of other languages from school (which was a long time ago), so... it'll have to be auto translators if I ever do it. Which I know get things wrong, so, there is that. So I generally resort to "so and so said 'this' in that language" which feels like such a cheat. And then there's how to format it in the story, which is another hurdle. Do you do footnotes, or fancy HTML? It's a whole thing. But I love it, and I wish more authors would do it.
First fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars. (First one I wrote, not the first I read, and not the first I published) :)
Favorite fic you've ever written?
Oooh. Close tie between Make A Splash and Unknown Origins. I love Unknown Origins for the sheer whumpiness of it, the detail, and the comfort ending (that I have planned) (yes, its not there yet, but its coming). I also love Make A Splash for the sheer, uh, unhingedness of it... and the whumpy angsty journey i took the characters on. I also love that both fics are leading me into a series. I have ideas. bwahahaha
No pressure tags to participate: @cdelphiki @ckbookish and @sassydefendorflower (Sorry if you've already been tagged!) And consider yourself tagged if you want to do it, too!
